reading the notes on that post is a mistake bc too many people are like "this is exactly what john would be like today" and it's just like. when can we all accept that leftist men can still be like. god awful. without being conservative or libertarian lol. john lennon of alllllll people would not be out here complaining about wokeism, he'd be out here complaining about the rich and then going home and being rich and hanging out with his rich friends. posting about women's rights after the absolute nightmare he was to women in the 60s/70s. like that's his brand of shitty leftist man don't get this twisted.
#when people mistake the brand of shitty he was like no no let's backtrack here#do also routinely get sad that he was indeed fixing himself before he died#I think by now he would've been like. fine. just hypocritical and annoying

I have a bone to pick with Lucifer.
In the first season, the whole premise is that Lucifer isn’t bad, the idea is that he’s a person that likes to indulge in his and other people’s desires, he doesn’t do things with malicious intent. It’s not inherently wrong that he questioned God and disagreed with him, God is just a really shitty father (could be interpreted as abusive but that’s not the point here). Lucifer being the Devil isn’t something that is evil, it’s just who he is and being the ruler of hell is a shitty job he got stuck with. Basically Lucifer isn’t evil like he is made to be by everyone, he doesn’t need redemption or forgiveness; history is just written by the victor and that’s why he’s painted in a bad light. This is what makes the show interesting, it’s a fresh take on the Devil (mostly), it shows nuance and lets the views engage with the character in a sympathetic way.
Now in the later seasons (and even season 3 with ”I’m the devil” “Not to me”) the show decided to change this narrative completely and say that Lucifer being the Devil and having his Devil form is a bad thing. They flip the table and slowly start to follow the narrative that Lucifer needs to seek forgiveness for being the Devil and not the mistakes that he makes along the show, because that would be sense, he’s a person who is learning to navigate intricate and meaningful relationships with other people and he’s bound to make mistakes and he should try to make amends in those situations. In season 4 with Lucifer self actualizing his Devil form as punishment, and when he “forgives himself” he’s in his angelic form again; this is not to say that self actualization is a bad concept I find it interesting however, it was just poorly used to show devil=bad and angel=good with no nuance or depth. In season 5b with the introduction of God, his shitty parenting and all the trauma he has inflicted on Lucifer is justified because he’s God and he knows better and there’s an important plan to follow. In season 6 with the idea that if the Devil can be forgiven, so can everyone else. All of these things and more
Lucifer and he’s struggles with self worth could have been a complex storyline and excellent character development if the show had written him to realized that his internalized issues with being the Devil and branded as a villain didn’t mean he was bad or unworthy of love. Instead the show erased all that potential to say “look Lucifer is redeemed now” backtracking on the basis of the show which was Lucifer doesn’t need redemption, he deserves acceptance (from himself and the people he cares about) instead.
It was disappointing and frankly it ruined the show for me.
+ bonus, slight NSFW Chloe has a sex dream in s1 where Lucifer has horns and shows she’s clearly very into the idea. Whereas in later season it’s all equated with devil/monster traits = bad. Justice for Chloe and her slight monsterfucking tendencies.
TL:DR Lucifer butchers the premise of the show by making him someone that needs redemption which kills all the nuance the show could have ever hoped of having.
#i could have developed this more but it's late and it was really irking me#i love lucifer he's one of my favorite characters and he got fucked over in his own show#we deserved a scene of chloe and lucifer making out when he has red eyes#i'm still very angry about this and i'll never forgive the writers#Lucifer Morningstar#chloe decker#lucifer netflix#lucifer fox#deckerstar#lucifer
