man i really hope i can participate in artfight next year. every year since i learned about it ive been wanting to participate but the horrible anxious neuroses i have around drawing other people's characters means that until i work through some Shit in my mind, committing to artfight would just wreck my mental health horrendously. but gods i wanna trade oc art with ppl SO bad

#sye's babbles #i blame dA for fucking over my brain in this specific fashion #when i was younger on dA i saw how sometimes when beginner artists drew fanart of literally anything #the obnoxious fucking pedants would crawl out of the woodwork to sneer about how xyz was not drawn correctly #so my 13-year-old brain decided that the only solution to this was to draw only my own characters #because in my incredibly impressionable kid brain i came to the conclusion that #'no one can tell me i drew x thing wrong if the character is my own bc then i can say i drew x thing like that on purpose'#which cemented into my brain for the next 16 years that the only safe thing to draw was art of myself or my own characters #and as a result if i try to draw someone else's characters #whether they be a friend's oc or a character from a popular piece of media #my brain just fucking melts down about getting all the details wrong #literally last night i tried to draw a friend's character and just #it wasn't even hard. i was just drawing his face. i was trying to figure out how i wanted to draw his features in my style.#and yet i ended up having such a horrifying nervous breakdown about getting his face wrong that not even antianxiety meds helped #so you can see why committing to artfight before working through this particular neurosis would be uh. Bad
