ONE DAY IN TORONTO ITINERARY – TOP THINGS TO DO IN TORONTO
BEST TIME TO VISIT TORONTO
Toronto can be an all year round destination. From Christmas markets in the winter to one of the world’s biggest Pride parades in the summer. However, winter temperatures can drop to -30. On the contrary, summers go up to 50 degrees! The best time to go is in September and October when the city puts on it’s colourful fall coat but still sits in the 20 degree weather sweet spot or April and May – when you can catch the cherry blossom season and the city takes on a pink aura! Fall and spring allow you to sightsee while the city is still not overcrowded with tourists, traffic and extreme weather conditions.
A FEW FACTS ABOUT TORONTO
Toronto is Canada’s most populated city with 25 % of the entire country’s population settling in or around the city. You will find over 8000 restaurants with more opening daily, making Toronto to be every foodie’s dream destination. If you consider yourself a food lover, Food and Sightseeing tour is exactly what you should look for by coming to this marvelous city!
Toronto holds the Guinness world record for the longest street in the world, Yonge Street, that stretches for 1896 km!
The city is also known as an “artist mecca”, with over 20 000 artists residing in it as well as 25% of all Hollywood movies filmed in it. Toronto’s film industry brings in approx. 1.5B USD each year.
TOP THINGS TO DO IN TORONTO
With so many restaurants, museums, sights and sounds it can be overwhelming to try and see everything. Follow this guide and you’ll get the best of Toronto in one day!
Start your day at Union Station
Pearson airport express train will take you straight to Toronto’s busiest subway station – Union. This station has around 300,000 people passing on a standard business day and it’s the perfect start to experience the vibrant lifestyle of the city.
Have breakfast at St. Lawrence Market
A short 10 min walk on Front Street will take you to the St. Lawrence Market, named World’s Best Food Market by National Geographic in 2012.
With over 100 vendors, you can find anything from traditional Jewish “bagels” to Ukrainian perogies, local cheeses, or the Canadian peameal bacon sandwich. After you have breakfast have a coffee or a drink in the Great Hall and complete your visit with a walking tour to hear about the Markets 200-year-old history.
Explore the Distillery District
Continue walking on Front Street for 15 minutes and reach the historical Distillery District. The area is the best-preserved collection of Victorian Architecture in North America. It is the home to over 40 heritage buildings and courtyards, boutiques and artisan shops and a popular walking destination. You can shop, eat, explore or wake up your inner photographer here and meet people from all over the world.
Live on The Edge on CN Tower
Take the bus on Front Street or walk up to King Street and take the 504 streetcar that will get you near the CN (Canadian National) tower, before the night crowds. Built in 1976 as a satellite tower, it held the record for the World’s Tallest Building and Freestanding Structure until 2007.
You can choose to take the glass elevator to the observation deck, lie down on the glass floor or test your limits and walk outside on the towers edge around the circumference of the roof! The first of its kind in North America, The Edge Walk makes for a once-in-a-lifetime thrilling experience!
Have lunch in Kensington Market
Hop on the Spadina Streetcar that will take you through the hectic Chinatown all the way to Toronto’s most vibrant neighborhood – Kensington Market. It’s a bohemian neighbourhood populated with artists and packed with affordable cafes and restaurants. Since Canada’s Marijuana legalisation in 2018, you can find a variety of dispensaries and indulge in the local past time before choosing one of the restaurants. You can find Chinese, Portuguese or Colombian cuisine here. Looking to try something different? Try Rasta Pasta – a Jamaican Italian fusion!
Check out Queen Street West
Voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods by Vogue magazine and just a 5 min walk down from Kensington is the trendy Queen Street. The street stretches throughout the city but walk east from Bathurst Street and check out the cool shops like The Condom Shack or have a photo session in the Graffiti Alley. You can shop on the local “TSOQ” (The Store On Queen) for a fresh new look or have a drink at “Bowine Sex Club” (not an actual sex club) – the alternative live music haven downstairs and a relaxing tiki rooftop patio upstairs!
Shop at Eaton Centre and Bloor Street
Take the 501 East to Queen and Yonge and explore the largest Toronto mall on the longest street in the world. You can find clothes, shoes, jewelry at all price ranges here but if you want to indulge in some luxury shopping take the Yonge street and walk over Yonge-Dundas square for some street entertainment all the way up to Bloor Street and check out the stores like Holt Renfrew, Davids, Tiffany, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes for some luxury items.
Watch the sunset at the Harbourfront
Use your last hours to treat all your senses. Hop on the Yonge-University subway back to Union station and walk down to Harbourfront. It is the lakefront neighbourhood overlooking Toronto Islands and Lake Ontario. The views are spectacular and the air is fresh! You can try a local craft beer at Amsterdam Brewery, have a nice dinner or just hang out at Sugar Beach – an urban park beach with live music and festivals. Interested in a planned tour? Try one of the many boat tours. For an added romantic touch take the sunset cruise!
Party in the Fashion District
Still have time left? Take the 510 streetcar up to Fashion District and enjoy a night out. The name derives from the early 20th century when the area was a textile centre. Today, the old factories and warehouses house a variety of clubs and bars. Want to laugh the night away? Try Second City – a comedy club that gave the world comedians like Mike Myers and Martin Short. Feeling like a drink with a twist? Have one at SpiN nightclub – a martini bar with ping pong tables. Still not enough? Walk out on King St W and just close your eyes, wherever you point you will find a lounge, bar or club to go to!
WHERE TO STAY IN TORONTO
The Omni King Edward Hotel The original luxury hotel, built in 1903, this establishment has a royal feel to every moment of your stay. While consolidating present day solace and polish, The Omni King Edward Hotel still has the castle like loftiness. Marble washrooms and custom vintage sheets combined with its central location by St. Lawrence market make for a extraordinary stay in Toronto!
The Beverley Hotel Encompassed by shops and eateries, The Beverley Hostel is set on stylish Queen Street West in Toronto. This boutique lodging offers rooms with a moderate stylistic theme and free WiFi. A bar, eatery, rooftop bar, and retail shop are on site so you can relax and enjoy views of the city at any time.

DAY TRIPS FROM TORONTO
Niagara Falls Desert the Toronto noise for the striking magnificence of Niagara Falls. Begin with a drive through Niagara’s wine district on the way to the falls. Journey up Niagara River for a spectacular view of the great Horseshoe Falls and afterward head down to the Whirlpool Rapids perception deck. After a long day of sightseeing you’ll want a glass of wine. Luckily, one of the many Niagara wineries is there to quench your thirst.
Elora George National Park Take an hour bus ride up to The Elora Gorge. A prominent vacation spot situated at the western edge of Elora, Ontario, Canada. As the Elora Gorge Conservation Area, it is one of the numerous preservation regions claimed by the Grand River Conservation Authority. Spend the day hiking, swimming, tubing or just enjoying the sights and sounds of untouched nature.
Toronto Islands Take the ferry or a taxi boat from Harbourfront to the Centre Toronto Island and spend the day at the Island Zoo, at the beach or sipping beer in one of the many restaurants located around the island. If you’re feeling like going down to your birthday suit take the ferry or a water taxi to Hanlan’s Point drop off and then bike or walk to the beach. (about a 20 min walk). The South end of Hanlan’s Beach is clothing optional!
EXTRA TIPS FOR VISITING TORONTO
Buy a TTC Day Pass – instead of spending 3.25 CAD per trip, buy a day pass that allows you to travel all through the city on buses, streetcars and the subway. There are group and family options available as well. You can buy the pass at every Subway Station within the City of Toronto.
Plan your visit around one of the city’s festivals – September brings Toronto Film Festival and the hottest Hollywood stars flood the city for a week. You can check out one of the films as well. The same month has Nuit Blanche – an all night art installation and performance festival. Bars are open later and the city is packed until early morning the next day.
Use the bike share program – Toronto loves cyclists! There are public bikes you will find docked all around the city. You can rent them by hour, day or even a week. Just pick one up and drop it off wherever you see another station.

TOP 2: St. Stephen Green Park
If you want to take a lunch break far away from chaos in town, go to this amazing centre park surrounded by perimeter trees and shrub paints. (But watch out the birds' turd!) Stephen Green is the most famous Victorian public park in the heart of town. While the central park of St Stephen's Green is one of three ancient commons in the city, it's currently layout owes much to the restorations of the 1800s. The style of the park remains the same as hundred years ago. It's always good to chill out with friends lying on the grass in the warm sunny day!
TIP:
The Victorian bedding has the most amazing view of the park!

TOP 3: National Museum of Ireland
If you're interested in Viking, Iron age, Celtic history, here might be the best place for you ! The National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, first opened in 1890 and since then it has been filling in the blanks for us through its extensive archaeological collections. The collections include Celtic, vikings prehistoric gold artefacts and Medieval art. Those treasury offers you a great opportunity to broaden your archaeology knowledge.
TIP:
Kingship and Sacrifice Exhibition are fascinating!
(don't judge me if you don't like it x)
Opening hours:
10-5pm Tue-Sat, 1-5pm Sun & Mon
Fee:
Free admission
Suggested visiting Hours:
2-3h

TOP 4: Grafton Street
Don't miss out the most popular shopping street in town if you are shopaholic like me (Uff...I' m not!). There are several brands, souvenir shops and cafes in this street. Entering from Stephen’s Green in the south, Grafton Street meanders by a series of architecturally rich townhouses and you will walk down to Trinity college at the end of the street.
Suggested Visiting Hours:
Flexible but...3mins for Anti-Shopping spree!
Recommended Places:
Café:'Bewley's Oriental’ -A favourite of poets, artists and musicians.
Dessert: 'Ginos' -Authentic Italian Gelato (Pistachio always tastes the best! If you ask mom my favourite recipe of crepes——try with nutella & banana! )
Disney store of Dublin: Live in your childhood dream.
Stephen Green Shopping Centre: Distinctive Victorian interior design.
Budget Meal deal: Busen, Xianstreet Food, Chooped (healthy choice)

TOP 5: Ha' Penny Bridge
Two minutes to walk from the bridge but 5 mins story time:
Half Penny Bridge is a pedestrian bridge built in 1816 over the River Liffey in Dublin city centre. Before the Ha'penny Bridge was built there were seven ferries. The ferries were in a bad condition and someone call 'Wiser Walsh' (I actually can't recall the name) was informed that he had to either fix them or build a bridge. He chose the latter option and was granted the right to extract a ha'penny toll from anyone crossing it for 100 years. The toll was increased for a time to a penny-ha'penny (That's where the name come from), but was eventually dropped in 1919.
TIP:
Notice that there are many lockers on the bridge and figure out what it means
Open: All day
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0be993bfc9ed09c7ecd656ce7f7d35b7/tumblr_inline_ponrbhhs5T1watmc2_540.jpg)
TOP 6: Phoenix Park My secret paradise in this city! Phoenix park is the natural urban park in Dublin, located 2-4km west of the city centre. It is one of the largest enclosed recreational spaces within any European capital city! The park includes large areas of grassland and tree-lined avenues, and since the 17th century has been home to a herd of WILD DEER! (You might find many groups of deer in any quite place in park, please don't disturb/annoy them!) TIP:
2hours by walk from the city centre, 20mins if you take 39A/46A in the city
(DM me on the contact form then I will tell you where the deers usually show up)
Open: All day Fee: Admission Free Suggested Visiting hours: 2-3
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d4f81bec7c233a1b5b0f34c4c9884099/tumblr_inline_ponsllj58v1watmc2_540.jpg)
TOP 7: Howth Irish weather is always unpredictable. If the weather is good, you don't miss the chance to do to the seaside! Howth is the bay side in the north of Dublin. The best things to do in Howth actually involve being out in nature, hiking hills and eating seafood which will suit you perfectly! Take a leisurely trip out to sea and admire all the different birds from the boat (but don't trigger those seagulls), spot some seals and see the Martello Tower. Or you can get another boat out to the islands and explore them by foot. Climb to the top of the hill and gaze out over the stunning views, or chill on the beautiful sandy beach. You can even visit a monastery that is dated back to 700 AD!
TIP:
Take Dart(rail) from Connolly Station
31bus from Dublin city centre Open: All day
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/14c525bbdb9725f32765235cd6e5999d/tumblr_inline_ponsoiS1ie1watmc2_540.jpg)
TOP 8: Guinness Storehouse Alcoholic? Guinness Lover? This amazing 'Alcohol Museum' might be for you! I've been to Guinness storehouse two years ago even though Guinness isn't my favour taste of drink. But this shinning storehouse goes far more than that. They explains the history of Beer! The story is told through various of interactive exhibition areas including ingredients, brewing, transport, cooperage, advertising more! For now the building in which the Storehouse is located was constructed in 1902 as a fermentation plant for the St. James's Gate Brewery (Don't tell me you've never heard of that;) You won't feel regret to visit this place and broaden your knowledge of drinks. (Free beer in the end of the touring!) Suggested visiting hours: 2-3 Fee: 18Euro
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/321cf97c52ab0da58aabad7b44732eda/tumblr_inline_ponsqdq8441watmc2_540.jpg)
TOP 9: St Partick's Cathedral I'm not a big fan of Celtic architecture, but this spectacular St Partick's Cthedral should be on your list if you want to see the most classic craic monument in the city! Founded in 1191, it's the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland. Here is a place where history is alive and tradition breathes, where lives are remembered and transformed, and where all are welcome to experience and explore the loving presence of God. TIP:
Don't need to go to Netherland(just kidding, ofc you should!), you can find tulips surrounded by the cathedral area!
Opening Hours: 9-5pm Mon-Friday
Fee: 6Euro
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4ef4b86dc14e22f98f21b638d3c541fe/tumblr_inline_ponsv0Ig0d1watmc2_540.jpg)
TOP 10: Temple Bar Area Finally we come to Temple Bar! Here is an area on the south bank of the River Liffey in central Dublin, It is recognised as Dublin's 'cultural quarter' and, as a centre of Dublin's city centre's nightlife, is a tourist favourite destination. A genuinely warm welcome to everyone comes to Ireland , backed by first-rate modern service, is the hallmark of this friendly spot in Dublin. I will recommend those traditional Irish Music Pubs(follow the music and find our by yourself lol). Also Temple Bar prides itself with fine Live Music Sessions every day and bring together a fine sample of talented musicians from around the country. TIP: Always bring your ID if you are under 19:))) Open: 6pm-5am

A Home
CORON 2k18
FLIGHT
It all started syempre sa isang pangarap at kagustuhan namin makapunta sa Coron, matagal ko ng pangarap yun eh... syempre pag may dream ka hindi lang basta pangarapin mo lang, kundi gagawan mo ng way to make that dream come true! :)
Hindi madali, ilang beses ako nag hanap at nag abang ng seat sale pero epic fail palaging nauubusan...OO flight to Coron palaging meron yan, pero super expensive like 5k one way or more pa...
:) Blessing in disguise pa pala ang nangyaring yan. :)
ACCOMMODATION
so after long search... naka hanap din ako :)
At JIMS Castle INN
(Dinagpan Street, Barangay 5, Palawan 5316, Coron, Palawan, Philippines.)
:) 600/night for 2 pax x 3 nights = 1,800 divide 2 = 900 per person! :)
pero with tax and service charge pa sila kaya total of 2,286 / 2 = 1,143 per person
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d7fa4ad522546a65bd0bb33edcc7314a/tumblr_inline_p7zth5jkPX1qe3281_540.jpg)
On board :)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fd485b617f0f66ab79e109f87fea1c6e/tumblr_inline_p7zthkPvH51qe3281_540.jpg)
A glimpse of Coron from up above :)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/97f7dee3793ddb3976a57b73fb1d9a25/tumblr_inline_p7zthyUi1e1qe3281_540.jpg)
After siguro mga almost 1 hour or less pa na travel time via Air....Touchdown Coron na! :)
Thank you sa safe flight kahit medyo nakakatakot ang plane na nasakyan namin, masyadong ramdam ang bawat liko ng eroplano at medyo harsh ang landing hehehe and Thank you din sa napaka gandang weather :)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ed7ac75214135548bce652539e2b0f05/tumblr_inline_p7zu27WFK81qe3281_540.jpg)
From Busuanga Airport to Coron Town proper 30-40 minutes travel time via Van.
Van Transfer 150 per way so Roundtrip total 300.
1ST DAY
At JIMS CASTLE INN
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4bf247ffaba817e8f5093e8b77c34fde/tumblr_inline_p7zu2o0y4M1qe3281_540.jpg)
Cons: medyo off way lang siya sa mismong town, hindi siya along the way, lalakad ka pa ng medyo pataas then nag tritrike pa kami pag punta sa mismong road ng mga kainan at bilihan, although kaya naman lakarin pero since 10 pesos lang naman trike dito, trike na lang! hahaha #TamadMode :)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f2b86ce70e260fc1132eb5ff31e57d16/tumblr_inline_p7zu34v7vD1qe3281_540.jpg)
:) #ChoosyPaBa?
Pros: May towel, tissue supply, may lababo at salamin, may WIFI pero medyo out of reach ang WIFI pag nasa fan room kasi medyo dulo na ang room namin at may free refill din ng mineral water. :)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ece787488ac63b1e25faefd6e2bbdd6f/tumblr_inline_p7zu3cUrvm1qe3281_540.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d09201ea7f1ddcbc45701c62b5175e0b/tumblr_inline_p7zu3lkygo1qe3281_540.jpg)
After mag ayos ayos ng gamit sa room, mga 30 minutes lang umalis na kami at nag pabook ng mga tours sa JY Travel and Tours. :)
Bago mapagod, KAIN MUNA! :(
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/18833fb14d59d3dda81d39cd477187a2/tumblr_inline_p86mevr7dy1qe3281_540.jpg)
Then para sa aming larga for the day. DIY lang kami to Mt. Tapyas.
Free entrance at nilakad lang namin mula Coron Town.
Mt. Tapyas is the second tallest mountain and one of the most dominant land features around the town of Coron in Busuanga Island, Palawan.
MUST TRY to! :)
Trekking mga bes! hahaha may stairs naman so level of difficulty 3/5.
MT. TAPYAS
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/605040232ce56b21d9e053c8edd343cf/tumblr_inline_p7zu5vmsyw1qe3281_540.jpg)
A must mag dala ng tubig! as in! uhaw kung uhaw ka mayat maya. :) hahaha
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f5d3b0e9192c415af3bc3dd0c061d955/tumblr_inline_p7zu6dCpzB1qe3281_540.jpg)
:) Masarap mag reflect habang paakyat. :)

Nag stay kami until mawitness namin ang sunset. :) so beautiful. Kita mo ang buong Coron. :)

Sabi nila best time umakyat daw ay either sunrise or sunset. So mas pinili namin sunset. :) <3

Sabi nila after Mt. :(
Maquinit is one of the very few saltwater hot springs in the world. Located along the southern coast of Busuanga Island, it is one 30-minute tricycle ride away from the town proper of Coron along a rough, curvy road.

Entrance fee: 200 per person
Pero yung blog na nabasa ko nasa 150 lang, so i guess nag increase na din sila. :(

The Ultimate Honeymoon Hideaway: Nayara Springs in Costa Rica
Costa Rica Weddings & Honeymoons – If you’re looking for an unexpected-yet-romantic honeymoon hideaway, look no further than Nayara Springs in Costa Rica. The award-winning, five-star hotel has landed a spot on our annual “BRIDES Honeymoon Awards” for years, and it’s no surprise why. This luxe resort is located in Arenal Volcano National Park, which is home to one of the world’s highest concentrations of tropical plants and wildlife. In fact: The property alone (along with its sister property Nayara Resort, Spa & Gardens) has 15 acres of lush gardens, overlooks Arenal Volcano (the third most active in the world), and features relaxing underground mineral thermal springs. Basically, it’s your dream rainforest escape IRL. And that’s not to even mention your digs! And the spa! And the activities!
Keep reading for an insider’s guide to what to do, eat, and enjoy while you’re at Nayara Springs. Trust us: This is the ultimate honeymoon spot for a couple who wants adventure and relaxation. (And let’s be honest: Who doesn’t?!)
Check in
After a two-and-a-half hour drive from the country’s main airports (in San Jose Alajuela and Liberia), you’ll know once you’ve arrived. Upon arrival, a golf cart (your personal taxi for the trip) will quickly whisk you away to the secluded Nayara Springs lobby, where you’ll be greeted by the friendly staff and a flight of welcome cocktails—mini tastings!—in colors as bright as the flora around. Welcome to the Pura Vida life!
Get comfortable (in your own private oasis)
Make one of the property’s 16 private villas home for the week. Each has its a “his & her” bathroom complete with an indoor shower, an outdoor shower in a tropical garden, and closets big enough for that honeymoon wardrobe you’ve been obsessing over. But even better than that dreamy outdoor shower situation is the bedroom. This oasis (seriously, there’s no other word for it!) features the dreamiest canopy bed you ever did see. Post up here for an afternoon nap or even take a night-in after a day of adventure. The staff will happily hand deliver room service, along with a collection of DVDs if you want Netflix and chill, the old-school way.
Take in the villa’s view
The best part of each villa is obvi the personal plunge pool, which is fed by mineral hot springs nearby. And, lucky for you, this infinity pool-and-deck combo is so picturesque, you may never want to leave. We suggest an afternoon nap on the comfy lounge chair, your morning coffee at the bistro table, and volcano sightseeing from the pool’s edge—champagne in hand, at sunset. (As evidenced by the above photo, an Instagram here is a must.)
Relax by the pool(s)
But just because the villa is so amazing doesn’t mean you shouldn’t leave! Definitely check out the two infinity pools on property. The newest (shown above) has a poolside bar, underwater tables, and more volcano views. We suggest an afternoon in the comfy lounge chairs—complete with margaritas and some of the best pizza around.
Chill with sloths
If you’re up for the challenge of spotting sloths in movement, you’ve come to the right place. The resort’s grounds are filled with hundreds of Cecropia trees (their fave food!), which means there’s a rumored dozen sloths on property. Popular spots for sight-seeing are behind the pool deck and around the hot springs, which are nestled amongst the lush landscaping. If you’re lucky, you may see a sloth take a swing or two!
Taste local (and not-so-local) foods
It’s safe to say you won’t be hungry or parched during your stay. Between the two sister properties, there are five full-service restaurants, a coffee bistro, and a wine bar. A favorite is surprisingly the sushi (yep, in Costa Rica!) at Asia Luna. Cozy up in a corner, make yourself comfortable, and order the fried chicken wontons, beef yakitori, and signature Nayara roll (chicken, avocado, and plantain). Even if sushi isn’t your thing, Mis Amores will be. This open-air restaurant has some of best views on property and features everything from wood-fires pizzas to yellowfin tuna and beef tenderloin. And trust us: You may be tempted to do breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. We aren’t judging.
Make your own coffee
Visit the recently-opened Mi Cafecito for your morning espresso or an afternoon frappuccino. Costa Rica is famous for its coffee—seriously, even the in-room stuff is awesome—and after a taste of this menu, you’ll understand why. Talk to the barista about the coffee beans in your drink (they’re roasted on-site) and you may get a mini lesson in the art of roasting. Several days a week, the baristas even offer formal lessons that go more in depth into the traditional making of coffee in Costa Rica.
Treat yourself at the spa
Fair warning: After a visit to this open-air paradise, you’ll never want a facial or massage inside a room again. Seriously, book the couple’s Signature Nayara (100 min; $160 per person) for a memorable treatment, just the two of you. This service includes a traditional (stress-releasing!) massage with volcanic mud—that’s said to hydrate and regenerate skin—and a mud facial. And even better: All off this takes place in the the comfort of a private, open-air pavilion that’s literally suspended in the rainforest. (Who knew the sound of birds chirping could be so peaceful?!)
Walk on hanging bridges
You should also plan some activities away from the resort (we know, we know, you’ll be back!). The Arenal region has plenty to offer in terms of mild-to-moderate adventure, from nature hikes and zip lining to an all-out canyoning experience that’s made for the true thrill-seeker. A favorite activity is the half-day excursion that’s organized by Nayara Springs. This getaway starts after breakfast (you can eat continental at Altamira Restaurant, which is next to the main lobby), when your driver-slash-naturalist guide escorts you in a private black car to Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park, which is about a 20-minute ride. Once there, strap on your walking shoes and lululemon backpack because you’re about to be one with nature. It’s best to have your guide walk ahead of you as you explore the carved pathways, 10 regular bridges, and six suspended hanging bridges (of course!). He or she can point out the plethora of wildlife and plants along the way. Expect to see plenty of neat critters—like howler and spider monkeys, tarantulas, blue jean poison dart frogs, and sloths—but don’t worry: Your guide is trained to know his/her surroundings (seriously, it’s insane what they can spot!) so that you won’t be surprised or scared in the least bit. That being said, this “hike” is perfect for serious hikers and amateurs alike. In fact, we’d think of it as more of a natural stroll—and more importantly, the perfect opportunity for panoramic photo ops.
Visit a waterfall
After an hour-and-a-half of exploring the highs and lows of the park, hop back into your car (and sip on a local beer en route!) for a drive to the near-by La Fortuna Waterfall. (Note: Wear a bathing suit and waterproof shoes, like Salamons, with your hiking attire.) The entrance fee is just $15, and you’ll find that it’s well worth the ticket. In fact, the views are even worth the 600 steps down (and back up!) it takes to reach the waterfall. Once you’re down the many, many stairs, the main attraction (on your right) is a 200-foot waterfall that plummets down into an emerald-color pool. Hop in for a quick dip, giving yourself just enough time for your guide to capture your photo. The waters are a bit rough so if you’re looking for more of a swim, walk over to the nearby stream, which is much calmer but still as chilly.
Head to your next stop—or start planning your return trip!
After a few days here, you’re not going to want to leave, but know that another benefit of honeymooning in Costa Rica is that you can explore two environments in one country. Many honeymooners do a combo trip that involves a visit to the popular beach destination, Peninsula Papagayo, too. But even if that’s not an option on this trip, that’s OK. All the more reason for an anniversary trip, right?!
