This is so funny because comparing Rhaenyra and Alicents sons is literally like:
Alicent:
Son 1 - rapist, possible pedophile, throws feasts to celebrate kinslaying, wanted to castrate a child, only sympathetic quality is having shitty parents.
Son 2 - genocidal maniac war criminal, massacred an entire house, uses his Godzilla dragon to burn the Riverlands to ashes, murdered nephew and started huge civil war, only sympathetic quality is being bullied as a kid (apparently that excuses war crimes).
Son 3 - i don’t know much about Daeron but didn’t his army sack a city and his men go around raping women and shit? And he’s the “good” son.
Rhaenyra:
Son 1 - maesters acknowledge he would have been a great king, politically astute, good-natured, earned the respect and loyalty of the fearsome and honorable Lord Cregan Stark, sacrificed his life for his brothers, worst thing he ever did was go along with Aegon bullying Aemond as a kid. Not a rapist or war criminal.
Son 2 - sweet boy, humble and concerned over ability to rule well, worst thing he ever did was accidentally taking his uncles eye in a fight while defending his brother at age like 8. Not a rapist or war criminal.
Son 3 - i know nothing about Joffrey, but did he really ever do anything wrong? Not a rapist or war criminal.
Son 4 - humble King, #1 policy is food + prosperity for common folk, visits dying peasants, worst trait is he is too sad (severely traumatized and depressed thanks to Alicent son #1) and didn’t miraculously save the dragons the prev gen decimated. Not a rapist or war criminal.
Son 5 - amazing three-time Hand of the King, stabilized the realm, loyal brother, wise King, worst trait is his son sucked ass (it happens). Not a rapist or war criminal.
Rhaenyra as a parent really shows how badly Viserys failed her as a parent.
Viserys was the only one left to raise her once Aemma died and so had the responsibility to teach her how to be a queen, how to rule, how to form alliances and friendships and lasting peace. And he failed so so badly.
Not only was he meant to teach her how to lead, he was her father meant to teach her responsibility, humility, respect. And he also failed miserably.
With Daemons influence and Viserys’ neglect, Rhaenyra became a woman whose line of thinking appears to be “I can do what I like because the consequences don’t apply to me and anyone who says otherwise can be silenced”.
And that is how she’s raised her sons. They can do no wrong in her eyes. They can literally attack another child and gouge his eye out and her defence is that the kid called her sons a name and should be further punished for it.
In the future, I think this mentality is going to show up in her sons in some way shape or form.
