31 Days of Productivity Reading もう一回!: Day 1
Before: Day one is so exciting, I can’t even decide what to read first. I’m leaning towards putting a bunch that I’m thinking of reading into a spinner wheel and letting fate decide for me, but I’m also thinking about choosing a volume of manga that I know I can easily get through in a short period of time because. Wait stopping mid thought. The new season of Kimi ni Todoke is being released through Netflix so I assumed it was gonna come out all at once, but I think I read somewhere that it’ll be week by week episodes? My initial plans were to binge watch the new season (like the rest of the world) but my day might have just gotten a lot freer… Okay they do come out one a week, so I guess I will indeed be choosing my first read via spinner wheel. Thank you for accompanying me in this journey.
Update: it’s worse than we all could’ve guessed. Not only did Netflix drop five new Kimi ni Todoke episodes at one, each one is over an hour long. I almost don’t even want to watch. I’m so angry. Who let this happen. No more Netflix anime. Please. I can’t take this. Where are my twenty minute episodes. Netflix I hate you so much

I did indeed go the spinner wheel route and the choice ended up being BASARA. As much as I adore this series, I was hoping for more something that I could finish in a single day for the first day of the challenge. For morale. I’ve read a few volumes so far and even though I’m adoring it, BASARA is a pretty old series (which means more text per page) and my volumes are the little almost omnibus series, so they’re around 300 pages each instead of the 150-200 that’s normal for regular manga volume prints. Also the chapter lengths are insane in this series. To complete my goal of reading one hundred pages today, I need to read (get ready for this. Are you ready?) a single chapter. Only one. Oh boy.
Okay, so here’s what happened. Lately I’ve been staying up super late to watch the equestrian events in the Olympics (it’s the only time I ever see them televised) and yesterday I stayed up until around five am watching show jumping. Obviously, I was super tired today, especially after the cat I’m cat sitting woke me up early, which made me even more hesitant for this volume of BASARA. But I started reading and I finished that one chapter and then I kept reading and I kept reading and then I only had one chapter left and obviously I can’t leave on just one chapter left. So I finished the volume. I was totally expecting to be reading this for three days so I’m super stoked that I managed to read it all today. This series just gets better and better with each volume, I’m so obsessed. I’m also kind of worried that I’m not going to want to read anything else until I’ve completely finished it, which can’t happen because I only have the first five volumes (this was volume three). Side note, I kept picking up the book upside down because the cover has a character on it upside down.
Today I read 287 pages of manga and read 1/10 volumes for the month! I’m off to a good start! I’m also probably going to let the spinner wheel choose tomorrow’s read as well.
