REMINDER
Important reminder that Fashion Revolution Week is from 22nd-29th of April this year. FashRev is one of the leading movements pushing for transparency in fashion’s supply chain. This year, FashRevWeek will mark the 10th anniversary of the Rana Plaza Disaster in Bangladesh where 1134 people were killed and over 2500 people injured. Since then conditions have barely improved, and greenwashing is more prominent than ever.
NO ONE SHOULD DIE FOR FASHION.

♡ Follow your national Fashion Revolution platform on Instagram!
♡ Ask brands #WhoMadeMyClothes? #WhatsInMyClothes? on social media.
♡ Inquire with your own shopping habits and if there are any changes you can make.

#whatsinmyclothes
This is a hashtag I found launched by Fashion Revolution from the previous article I read (“Finally, we can all use our voice and our power to demand that brands and legislators work to reduce the trillions of microfibres flooding into our waterways. That’s why Fashion Revolution has just launched a new hashtag #WhatsInMyClothes.”). I found reading through these posts really interesting as I think they explain the impact of fast fashion in an easy to read/human way. I liked the infographic that explains the expectation vs reality of sustainable fashion, I think a lot of people including me think that you have to buy from expensive brands to shop sustainably but this infographic clears that misconception well. Emphasising small attainable changes they can make in their everyday lives is the best way to go about it, you can’t expect the average person to help clean up the ocean etc but inspiring to rewear their clothes, shop second hand etc can help make a difference. I also visually liked the post where they put type on denim, using actual clothes in my designs is something I could explore to emphasise my message.

Fair&Good
i came across this Fassion Revloution Week on the Fair&Good website. Fair&Good wants you to get invloved in Fashion Revelotuion Week 2022.
What is Fast Fashion Week 2022?
Fashion Revolution Week is a campaign that promotos one of the worlds largests fashion activition movemtnts and to inspire seven days of action.
on the page it mentions that fast fashion brands and big retailers have made billions from explotation of labour and natural resources. the page also mentions that Brands Produces cloths too much and too fast which leads to a toxic cycle of overconsumption. the page then goes on to mention that the majority of people who produce these clothes are not getting paid enough to meet their basic needs and that they are even being impacted by the climate crisis which the fashion industry fuels.
Natalia the Assistant Cournty Coorintor of Fashion Revlotion states that thier vision is engage with a wider audience and educate people that everyone is a fashion consumer.
Fair&Good then goes on to ask Natilia some questions.
Why is it so important that we ask #WhoMadeMyClothes, #WhatsInMyClothes and #WhoMadeMyFabric?
Natalia: Transparency is key to a better industry. Transparency matters for many reasons but mainly because it sheds light on the responsibilities of everyone along the supply chain; and it also facilitates better access to data, which helps the industry as a whole move forward.
Has the New Zealand fashion industry evolved since the Fashion Revolution movement started?
Natalia: We believe so. We see so many brands, both here in New Zealand and abroad, being more engaged in the conversation. Some of them are making wide strides towards ethical procurement and a circular economy. Unfortunately, it is still not the majority. Fashion, and fashion companies, will always suffer the capitalist dilemma to keep growing and continue selling their products - and that in itself is intrinsically unsustainable.
Reflection:
Reading this Fashion movemnt has inspired me to contuine the reaserch about sustanbility and has further educated me about fast fashion.

I want to know who made my clothes, if they were fairly compensated and treated fairly. I want to know what went into my clothes and if pollution and harmful chemicals were a part of production and delivery. I want brands to practice due diligence, social accountability and environmental responsibility. Today is a historic day of Fashion Activism. Use the hashtags #WhoMadeMyClothes and #WhatsinMyClothes and tag brands on social media! Some of the worst offenders are @sheinofficial, @mango, @hm, @boohoo, @forever21, @urbanoutfitters, @primark, @missguided, @zara, @victoriassecret, @brandymelvilleusa, @garageclothing, @yesstyle, @romwe_fun, @nastygal, @fashionnova, @americaneagle, @abercrombie, @oldnavy, @gap, @uniqlousa and @topshop. Put pressure on them and remind them that you care who made your clothing and how making it is affecting the planet! @senator_omara #ActOnFashio NOW and support the #NYFashionAct today on #FashionRevolutionDay! Reposted from @kikoromeo #FashionRevolutionWeek is here! To start us off we have Master Weaver Mr William Okello from The Pendeza Weaving Project (@pendezaweaving) which was founded in 1980. Here he shows us a few steps in the process of creating the fabrics that we use for our clothing. We’ve worked together since the early days of KikoRomeo. Pendeza create the most beautiful hand-spun and hand-woven fabrics from East African fibres. They champion the process of hand spinning and hand weaving as means to elevate their community through the creation of employment as well as transferring of skills. The vision of the Pendeza Weaving Project is to foster “A society with skilled, industrialized and resourceful rural women and youth improving their livelihoods through social enterprise.” ————————————————— #WhoMadeMyFabric #FashionRevolution #WhoMadeMyClothes #WhatsInMyClothes #KikoRomeo #MyKikoStory #madeinafrica #madeinkenya #africanfashion #luxury #africanluxury #export #sustainablefashion #sustainability #kenya #nairobi #magicalkenya #storytelling #handpainted #textiles #africantextiles #collection #sdggoals #designer #africandesigner (at My Happy Place) https://www.instagram.com/p/CN7dvbWDnSV/?igshid=phrs3h6be2hy

#whatsinmyclothes | clothing labels tell us very little about what is in our clothes. For example this shirt says "100% cotton, made in USA from Costa Rican material". . . We know it's made of cotton, we know where the item was finally assembled and where the material was made, but what else is there? . . We don't know how that cotton was grown, whether sustainable farming was used, whether you chemicals were used. We don't know how the clothing was dyed, again what chemicals went into that and whether those by products were dumped into local eco systems. How much water it took to produce. We don't know how many countries this piece of clothing actually went to before it was finally assembled in the USA, how much carbon the item took to produce. . . The typical cotton t shirt takes about 2700 litres of water to produce, around 3 years worth. This is a thick shirt so probably took even more. . . We also don't know the effect that any of this process had on the people involved. Are they at risk? So many unknowns that could be answered if brands just put a bit more effort in! To be fully transparent. A lot of sustainable brands are and tell us exactly what goes into their clothes. This is the future! . . On the blog today I talk about different materials and what the labels do tell us about them, and what might be missing. . . It's worth asking brands "what's in my clothes?" because transparency isn't just about who is making our clothes, it's also about everything that goes into making them https://www.instagram.com/p/B_ai043ggGk/?igshid=1hc7t1oltgijt

I’m <Sangeetha>. Hi @lifestylestores I am your customer, and I love your style. I wanted to know #whatsinmyclothes. Also, I want to thank the people who made my clothes and just know they are doing well so please tell me #WhoMadeMyClothes and what you are doing to honour existing contracts and ensure that the people working in your supply chain are protected and compensated throughout this crisis? Thank you so much @thasneemmsd for having me in this campaign ❤ https://www.instagram.com/p/B_aPud3D3lL/?igshid=tge6yd96iuf6

What’s in our clothes and how does it affect the oceans
https://www.fashionrevolution.org/whats-in-our-clothes-and-how-does-it-affect-the-oceans/
“Plastic is designed to last forever, but we are using it to design products, including clothing and its related packaging, that are only used once. Around two thirds of our clothes are made from synthetic fibres, such as polyester, acrylic and nylon, which are all plastics. The process of turning fossil fuels into textiles for our clothes releases significant amounts of Greenhouse Gases.”
“Textiles are the largest source of both primary and secondary microplastics, accounting for 34.8% of global microplastic pollution1, with around 700,000 microfibres being released in every wash cycle2.”
“It has been estimated that 1.4 million trillion microfibres are currently in the oceans3 and if the fashion industry continues in a business-as-usual scenario, between 2015 and 2050, 22 million tonnes of microfibres will enter our oceans4.”
“Building a more sustainable fashion industry and curbing its destructive impact on our oceans will entail governments, brands, retailers and citizens all taking action together to help bring about the systemic change needed to end the exploitation of our planet.”
“Finally, we can all use our voice and our power to demand that brands and legislators work to reduce the trillions of microfibres flooding into our waterways. That’s why Fashion Revolution has just launched a new hashtag #WhatsInMyClothes.”
This article focuses on the micro plastics that are created from fast fashion. I found the image used in the article compelling as I hadn't seen what the microplastics in the ocean had looked like before. Since these mircroplastics are so small we tend to not think we are creating a problem, I think using imagery like used in this article would be a good way to speak to the audience. I think visually showing people the impact they are making would be a good way to convey my message and hold people responsible for the impact they are making on the environment. I could use infographics within my campaign to show people how many micro plastics they are creating.

This week is Fashion Revolution week: a week in which we look back at 2013 and set new goals for the fashion industry. Today 7 years ago the fourth largest industrial disaster in history took place in Bangladesh. The Rana Plaza building, in which around 5000 people were manufacturing clothing for many of the biggest global fashion brands, collapsed. To ensure that something like this can never happen again change is needed! ⠀ ⠀ Fashion Revolution is about transparency, accountability and change but it is also important that we use our voices and ask the questions, starting with: #whomademyclothes?⠀ ⠀ Check out our stories to get to know and learn about our brands and the people behind them! | #sophiestonefashion⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ •⠀⠀⠀⠀ •⠀⠀⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀⠀⠀ #whomademyclothes #fashionrevolutionweek #WhatsInMyClothes #ethicalfashion #TradeFairLiveFair #consciousfashion #ethical #fashionstartup #fairfashionblogger #slowfashion #fashionrevolution #duurzamemode #fairfashion #ethicalfashion #Utrecht #utrechtbased ⠀ ⠀ (bij Biltstraat, Utrecht.) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Xhu52DPvQ/?igshid=1vsy048qcs78r

This week is #fashionrevolution week, a week focusing on the fashion industry and the conditions in which people work within it following the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh seven years ago. It also looks at how we think about clothes, the amount of waste and the impact on the environment. So we need to consume less clothes, throw less out and treasure the clothes we have. Clothes can last, they can be mended and most of us probably need a lot less than we currently buy. I try to think very carefully now about any item I buy and how much wear I will get from it, we should not be buying things that soon after will be thrown away, clothes are not single use! We need to appreciate each item and think about #whomademyclothes and in what conditions. As with clothes, another question I know a lot of makers will be asking is #whomademyfabric as the issues will be similar to the clothing industry. My main aim is to buy less and treasure the things I have and make them last, therefore making less waste. What does #EarthDay and #Fashionrevolution week have in common? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌎✂️🧷👙 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, if we say we care for the earth we must care for its inhabitants as well, which would include not exploiting any species or contributing to environmental destruction for our personal gain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🐛🐇🐝🐑 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which definitely includes the many workers of the fashion industry. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👨🦱👩🏽🦰🧑🏼🦰👩🏾🦱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is the week of spotlighting the impact that transparency and accountability has on this industry and asking brands #whomademyclothes and #whatsinmyclothes #fashionrevolution ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏽♂️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You may also want to give @fash_rev a follow 🌱🙏 (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_VffM2HJys/?igshid=1t2efcy2zp90i

How do you pick your favourite frock? I personally find is so difficult. It truly is like picking your favourite kid, plant, pet, etcetera so here are some thoughts on some of my favourite items in my wardrobe . . My grandmother’s duster/shirtdress has a very special place in my wardrove because it was hers and she was so stylish and inspiring but also because it has butterflies all over it. Butterflies represent endurance, change, hope, and life and whenever I wear it, I feel like I am wearing a superwoman cape! . . My little @ferragamo blue shoes, I had to work so hard for. They represent a time in my life that I feel very proud of: the beginning of my sustainable fashion journey when I decided to start educating myself about the effects of fashion and started to buying better so less of the cheaply made items that didn’t last very long and more of the things that are made using good quality materials that will last for a very long time . . My @yevuclothing smock, I mean how do I not acknowledge the fact that I own one of the most beautifully made items of clothing and I don’t mean the print or the thread that was used to sew it all together, I mean who it was made by and the goodness the label brings to the makers and their community . . Finally, all my home-made vintage frocks. I can’t pick a favourite, but they all represent someone’s mum, grandma, dressmaker, a time and a place that I often make up in my mind and sometimes I am lucky to know where exactly It came from . . As you can see picking a favourite is getting complicated by the minute because almost every item of clothing has had a crappy effect on earth due to its supply chain, manufacturing process or afterlife . . Today, I invite you all to really look at your wardrobe and think about each item and what it brings to your life, love it and honour it for someone, somewhere, had to work really hard to make it using some of our most precious resources . . #WhoMadeMyClothes #WhatsInMyClothes #FashionRevolution #LovedClothesLast (at Newstead, Queensland) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_TO169Akhj/?igshid=144ttf8a70rn2
