bird echoed through both of us
yesterday, separate, in the evening . . .

Took a photo of my painting. Need to learn how to adjust the photo so I can make prints of my art.

Idea for a photo series. Using compositing, combine the pad portion of a used band-aid with photos I've taken that offer social commentary.

This is a low resolution sketch of some of what I've been working on. This is a hybrid of photo and painting. Right now most of the painting has been done digitally, but I'm working on techniques for applying this to paper and to canvas using digital ground, watercolor ground, acrylic medium, etc.

"I live and die unheard . . ."
“But as it is, I live and die unheard, With a most voiceless thought, sheathing it as a sword.”

Well the night she has fallen--she's down on her knees.
Like the moon drunk and calling, I'm calling to sea.
Oh, sweet west wind wash me--my hands are caked and stained.
Won't you lay down beside me; love, I need your pain.
And you know it's going to be alright,
And you know it's going to be alright,
And you know it's going to be alright,
When the morning comes.

This is another hybrid painting (screen shot with my phone). It started on paper. I scanned it in and have been adding details with my Wacom in Photoshop. Then I’ll apply digital ground to my original painting and print the details over the top. Each detail is a layer in Photoshop so I can adjust how it prints over the original. In Photoshop, I am using the generative AI to make gold leaf. After I print the final layers to my actual painting (on paper), I'll apply real gold leaf and then tint the gold leaf with washes. He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
[Wer mit Ungeheuern kämpft, mag zusehn, dass er nicht dabei zum Ungeheuer wird. Und wenn du lange in einen Abgrund blickst, blickt der Abgrund auch in dich hinein.]
Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) German philosopher and poet Jenseits von Gut und Böse [Beyond Good and Evil], Aphorism 146 (1886) [tr. Hollingdale (1973, 1990)]
=====
In my spare time, I draw and paint some pretty dark stuff that I don't share here or anywhere. Today this quote popped into my head (in German) as I was painting the eye of one of my creations:
