I can't believe how much I've come in the life of this story. For the longest time, I hated editing. I finished a novel and just let it sit because I didn't want to mess with it. I would reread it, waiting for SOMETHING to stand out to change. And I never could. This is the first novel I've sat down myself and have edited it. My novella was edited based on edits others suggested. I have another novel I have had someone else edit but I haven't yet. It's still waiting for me to look at the edits. I can't bring myself to take the scissors and red pen to my writing. Until now. I've highlighted lines I absolutely love. I've marked out commas and drew arrows to change up the order of sentences. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to edit. I had heard people say to print out a copy of your manuscript and read through it that way. Your brain picks up on things differently when it's on the paper as opposed to on the computer screen. So, I printed out 'Whatever She's Got' and tried it out. Highlight lines I really like and then channel my inner red pen loving teacher (and hopefully avoid horrible school flashbacks). I've enjoyed editing so far. It's much easier to figure out where I'm editing Matt and Hayden's story. Because I've hit a little bit of a roadblock but really want to work on it, I printed out what I have of 'Time After Time'. I'll admit it. These may seem like lofty goals for just one month. The abbreviations may end up confusing me by the end of the month. But, I'm wanting to publish Book 2 and I've got two sitting in the editing phase. And, I have HUGE piles of books that I've been meaning to read and haven't. Guess it's a good thing I took a week this month.
