Azulanette week is this month and I'm excited but to anyone out there who's considering joining but potentially needs a jumping off point, here's a sildeshow I made going over the basic. (You can also find it here because some slides are hard to read and I think I'll make occasional updates).
Also, in case I didn't make it clear, what I'm doing isn't a strict guideline. More than anything, I'm making suggestions that you can listen to or ignore completely. You don't have to use my headcanons or even agree with me, so long as it's within moral/ethical boundaries, you're allowed to do whatever you want forever. All I really want is for you to have fun. If it stops being fun, I ask that you stop interacting with it.

A Little Bit of Luck
[Fanfiction.net] || [AO3]
Fandoms: Miraculous Ladybug & Avatar the Last Airbender Warnings: None Characters: Marinette Dupain Cheng, Azula Relationships: Azula/Marinette (Azulanette) Additional Tags: gods AU, oneshot, (that could change), lesbian Azula, bisexual Marinette
Summary: After being overwhelmed with the hardships of being a goddess, Ladybug leaves her old life behind to live as a human on earth.
Welcome everyone to the second ever Azulanette fanfiction. I thought of this one during one of my shifts and then started writing it at 2 in the morning. I hope you all enjoy it.
Ever since the beginning of existence, Ladybug, the goddess of luck and creation, has always been popular among humans. Humans always seemed to be in need of luck and that meant they would often pray to her for any number of reasons. Reasons that could range from health, good finances, winning a war, confessing to a crush, or winning a silly game between friends. She loved the attention because it made her feel important to the humans. Even as a bonus, prayers and offerings gave gods their powers and this constant stream of attention made her the most powerful god in the Pantheon.
However, as humanity grew so did the number of prayers. Practically ever second, Ladybug's head would be filled with millions of voices praying to her and it started to become overwhelming. There were so many prayers that would flood her mind that she began to struggle figuring out which voice in her head belonged to whom (including her own). She did everything in her power to keep up with prayers but one day it just became too much for her so she just stopped answering completely.
Once she stopped answering, humans stopped praying to her exponentially and it was a big change to adjust. When the amount of prayers lessened, she started to feel more like a mortal than a goddess. This had never happened to any god before, even the minor gods had a powerful presence so for her godly nature to be almost completely suppressed was completely unheard of in the Pantheon.
Some of the other gods had tried to convince her to start answering prayers again but she didn't want to. As she thought of what she could do with her new life, she realized she could do something that no other god could do before. She could live on earth.
So that's what she did.
Leaving her home to live on earth was a hard decision, she didn't know if she could go back, whether or not she could die, she didn't even know what her new life would be like. Since the presence of a god is too powerful for mortals to look at, none of them could ever appear on earth. But now things were different. As she walked among the crowds, you wouldn't be able to spot her.
Adjusting to the changes in her life were hard at first. If she had to guess her own age, she assumed herself to be 14 years old. She didn't know how much she could do at age but what she did know is that she needed food, water, shelter, and money. Right as she thought of that, she noticed that she was getting hungry, a new sensation.
She didn't know what she could do for food but that's when the smell of croissants suddenly hit her nose. It smelled delicious and followed the source at a bakery. When she read the sign of the bakery, she realized she was in France but that didn't matter right now. She was hungry and this bakery, The Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie, had croissants.
She walked in the bakery and for a moment, she forgot she wasn't on the Pantheon anymore. There were so many pastries all over the place and they all smelled heavenly but she didn't want to be too greedy. One should be enough so she grabbed one serving of macaroons and brought them to the cashier. The cashier was a woman with blue hair and the one she assumed to be Sabine.
When asking for payment, she handed over a piece of gold, hoping it was enough but that's when she was given a strange look. "Do you have any actual money to pay for this?"
"I... don't." Suddenly she felt embarrassed, gold was the only money she had with her. She doesn't know the the first thing about modern monetary items. "This is all I have left."
"'All you have left?' Wait, do you have any money or even a home?"
"No."
Everything from there quickly became history. She still didn't understand fully what Tom and Sabine, rather her new parents did, but after doing a lot of paperwork, they were now a family and she was able to start a new life but not as a Ladybug, as Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
The more time she spent on earth, the more she loved it. She went to school, made friends, and got eat many pastries curtsy of living with bakers. But if there was one thing that never left her, it was her love of creation. Even though it was nice to eat pastries, she loved making pastries. Soon after, she found her true passion in fashion. Creating art that people could wear with a smile made her smile. It was difficult and she did stab herself plenty of times but it was always rewarding.
If there was one thing that she could never fully get used to, it was walking. She couldn't figure out what it was but there was something about walking that she could never master.
The more time she spent on earth, the more she felt distanced from her past. She loved the feelings earth gave her, the way her skin would age, the idea of her life potentially ending... sometimes at least. She wasn't like everyone else, her soul was different and would probably perish different. Death would just be a concept she wouldn't dwell on.
If there was one thing she couldn't distance herself from were the voices, voices so quiet they were like whispers, in the back of her mind. People praying, desperate for any amount of good luck. She felt guilty for doing it but she always ignored them.
It's not like she's the only god though. She had no way to confirm this but she heard that the god of bad luck, Cat Noir, was doing pretty good ever since Marinette quit. It made sense, if people couldn't wish good luck for themselves, they could wish bad luck for their enemies. Cat Noir has always loved the spotlight too, so her absence is probably working in his favor. Being Marinette Dupain-Cheng was her life now and nothing could make her want to look back.
At least, that's what she thought until one fateful night.
Marinette didn't know what to make of dating apps. They were different than what she was used to but after a few failed attempts, she found someone she was content with and thought might be good to spend time with them. They talked for a while and after a week, they decided that their first date should be at a restaurant.
When the date happened, it went well. He was a very nice person and Marinette could see herself spending more time with him. The food was nice and the desserts were great. But one round of dessert wasn't enough for Marinette, she loved getting seconds or thirds. Her appetite for sweets has changed much since she started living on earth but she was still the great sweet tooth for a reason.
She excused herself from the table, walked over to the bar, and asked for a strawberry sundae. It was a small sundae to end off the date. While waiting for her waiter to make the sundae, Marinette's eyes drifted to the person next to her. She was a woman about her age, with black hair, yellow eyes, red shirt, black jacket, and black pants. She was just about done eating her ice cream but before she finished, she pulled a matchbox out of her jacket pocket.
"I don't mean to be rude but I don't think we're allowed to smoke in her-" Marinette was stopped dead in her tracks when she saw that the match wasn't for a cigarette. Instead, the second she lit it, she dropped it in her ice cream. The smell that the smoke emitted filled Marinette's nose happily.
Wait a minute… she might not know earth the best but even she knew that she shouldn't be able to smell anything. Was this woman… no way, there's no way she was doing what she thought she was doing. Then again, it wouldn't hurt to ask. "I'm sorry to butt in but what are you doing?"
The woman with black hair looked up from her bowl of ice cream and looked at her. "I'm just doing a burnt offering. I know that this isn't the proper way to do it but there aren't any ceremonial bonfires nearby so this match will have to do."
A burnt offering? That was unbelievable, even back in her heyday, Marinette would probably get a hundred burnt offerings per year. But she pushed her feelings aside to let the realization sink in. She didn't want to make assumptions so she had to ask. "Which god are you burning that for?"
"Ladybug."
In that moment, Marinette felt her throat go completely dry. She hadn't heard her-that name in years but hearing it now felt… wrong, almost like a stranger's. That should've been the end of the conversation but she didn't know what possessed her to say this but she ended up telling her "I don't think you should bother with Ladybug. I heard she hasn't answered a prayer in years."
"Try centuries--" has it really been that long? "And I know." If she knew then why keep making burnt offerings? "I just admire her. From what I've heard, Ladybug disappeared from the Pantheon almost 11 years now. I just thought that was so cool because if someone like her could run away from her old life, what's stopping me? So I did, I ran away from my horrible father and never looked back. For the past 10 years, I give Ladybug burnt offerings as a thanks for helping me. I know she likes sweets the best, so I try to get as many as them as possible."
Marinette felt her cheeks heat up. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. By choosing to be human, she gave someone hope to leave their past life. She gave her offerings and thinking about it now, the smell of croissants that led to her parents' bakery was probably this woman.
Marinette buried her head into the counter right as the waiter came back. "Here's your sundae." She grabbed the sundae bowl but didn't move. She wanted to know more about this woman, then again, her date was waiting for her. So maybe… "If you could pray to Ladybug for one thing, knowing she would answer, what would you ask for?"
"What?"
"I'm... also devoted to Ladybug and I'm just curious."
They both stayed quiet for a second. Marinette understood her silence. In her eyes, Marinette was just a stranger and knowing the things humans would pray for, it could be pretty personal.
She was about to walk away until she answered. "I would pray for good luck for finding my brother. Ever since I left, I haven't kept track of him, but I want to see him again… even if it's just one more time."
"That's a good prayer."
Marinette walked back to her table setting down her sundae but before she sat down, she immediately excused herself. "I have to use the restroom." Marinette turned around and walked to the restrooms before her date could answer. Once she was in, she immediately walked into a stall and locked it. She stood upright then did her best to shake off her nerves. She was about to break her centuries long silence but no one could know. She took a breath and focused on the woman at the bar.
If she wanted to see her brother again, then she will see her brother again.
Ladybug, rather Marinette, took one last breath before sending her luck. She mentally followed the lingering scent of ice cream and found the woman. Now that she found her, she could send her luck but since her powers were so weak, it would probably be better to give an object on her luck. She first thought to make an article of clothing like her shirt lucky but she decided otherwise because she didn't know how often she wore that shirt and seeing as how weak her powers were, the effects couldn't last more than a week.
It would be for the best if the luck worked instantly as to not worry about the effects wearing off. That's when it hit her, her cellphone. Cellphones were complex and Marinette hoped that it could be used to her benefit. She imbued her cellphone with luck.
Once she finished sending her power, she almost fell. She didn't even know if it would work but that woman was the first person to give her a burnt offering in centuries, no millennia, and she inadvertently gave her a new home. She had to thank her in some way. She finally stood up, washed her hands, and went back to her table.
When Marinette sat back down, she tried to focus on the date but she couldn't. She constantly fought the heaviness in her head, didn't hear a word her partner said, and couldn't even keep eating her sundae. It didn't take a detective to notice the complete change in her demeanor and after a few minutes her date asked "do you wanna go home? You seem kinda tired."
She didn't want to go home. She did want this to be their night out but she knew that staying out for any longer would probably end with her face down directly in her sundae bowl. "Yeah, I think that would probably be for the best. Do you think we should pick this up next Saturday?"
"Yeah, next Saturday sounds fine."
Azula didn't even know why she shared her prayer. Ladybug devotee or not, they were strangers. It's not like she could take it back now though. A few minutes later, she was able to pay for her food but right as she was about to stand up, she heard her phone buzz. Who would even be texting her?
She looked at the message and she immediately felt the air leave her lungs. At first she thought she was dreaming but she read over the message again and her eyes weren't tricking her.
The message that said: Hi Mai! This is Zuko, I just got a new phone and this is my new number. The next message that went through was said: oops, sorry wrong number.
Azula stared at her phone in disbelief. Just a second ago (or maybe even an hour ago), she didn't even know where to start on looking for Zuko now here he was.
Her hands shook as she held her phone tightly in her hands, almost as if she was afraid it would fall to pieces if she didn't grab on tight enough. What was she supposed to say? Hi? Actually, that wasn't a bad decision, hi was simple, not even she could mess it up.
Her thumbs went back and forth on the keyboard several times before she fully wrote her message. Despite how much effort she put into writing it, she managed to send a message that said: Zuko, this is sister. Can I talk to you?
Azula looked up and right as she did, she made direct eye contact with the Ladybug devotee from earlier. She noticeably weaker was leaving with someone she assumed was her date. It was strange but Azula couldn't help but ask herself if that devotee and Ladybug had something to do with this.
Dozens of rewrites and edits and here we are with the second ever azulanette fic in the world. I'll be honest, I did get a little impatient on some parts but I'm so happy to get more azulanette stuff into the world, it's a bit of an uphill battle trying to write for these two seeing as how they're from completely universes but I am unrelenting.
Also, I don't know if I should make this a proper AU or do other things. I'm still experimenting with azulanette and I don't even have a strong internal idea of how they'd interact. I was able to make a post about my thoughts on this topic (anon I hope you're reading this) but taking a moment to connect everything together cohesively is difficult (also I have a job and it's homophobic for not letting me just play on my phone and think of azulanette fics) but once again, I am unrelenting.
As a final note, if you're wondering about the current status of the ladynette fic, I'm sorry, I haven't forgotten about it, but for reasons I'm not going to get into, I'm just not emotional ready to get back into it. I know that's a weird thing to say about a crack fic but if I'm going to write it, I want it to be good.

A few azulanette quotes that I generated because I’m trying to get more inspiration to write for them.
Marinette: Azula, stop! This isn't you, you've gone mad with power! Azula: Well of course I have. Have you ever tried going mad without power? It's boring.
Marinette: Jail is no fun. I'll tell you that much. Azula: Oh, you've been? Marinette: Once. In Monopoly.
Marinette: I've already sent good vibes your way… they're coming. There's nothing you can do to stop them. Azula: This is the most threatening way I've ever been cheered up.
Marinette: How do I deal with my enemies? Azula: Kill them Marinette: That's a bit extreme, I was hoping for a more passive solution Azula: Kill them only a little?
Marinette: You're "the second worst thing to ever happen to those orphans”, what does that mean? Azula: It means I was second worst thing to happen to those orphans. Marinette: but what's the first worst thing? Awkward pause Azula: Marinette, they..they weren't always orphans. Marinette: …
Marinette: You love me, right, Azula? Azula: Normally, I'd say yes without hesitation, but I feel like this is going somewhere and I don't like it. (in my opinion, this works both ways)
Azula: Okay, truth or dare? Marinette: Truth Azula: How many hours have you slept this week? Marinette: …Dare Azula: Go to bed. Marinette: I don't like this game.

What about Azulanette for the ship classification....
Ask Game
ANON I AM KISSING YOU ON THE MOUTH (or whatever form of intimacy you're comfortable with).
I know I'm definitely biased when I say I'd put Azulanette under makes sense and compels me but here's an excuse to talk about it.
First of all Marinette. When it comes to Marinette's love life she has gotten the most characters to fall for her (Adrien, Luka, Nino, Zoe, and Kagami yes, I'm counting her, I refuse to believe Kagami never had a crush on Marinette). But out of all these characters, Adrien has always been "the one" for her and Azula and Adrien do have similar upbringings.
First of all, Adrien's life has been compared to royalty (even though it's usually in a fairy tale setting) and Azula is part of a royal blood line.
Growing up, Adrien had a sheltered life and got a very thorough education (so thorough that his lowest grade ever was an A-) and part of what made Ozai love Azula more is that she was a prodigy.
*Gif taken from this video
As Adrien/as a civilian he has to be an unbreakable image that was meticulously crafted by his dad, like Azula. Everything about Azula has to be "perfect" in every way possible, no just her firebending has to be perfect but her appearance.
As Cat Noir/as a hero, he has the power of destruction and the way that Azula uses her firebending techniques are for destruction/destructive purposes.
You also have the fact that the both of them have poor social skills.
It's easier to remember for Adrien because he's usually talking to other characters (or saying the dreaded "she's just a friend") but Azula is also pretty weird/socially inept and for the same reason as Adrien (she lived a sheltered/away from other kids). The only difference is that Gabriel was trying to make Adrien "perfect" model but Ozai wanted Azula to be the "perfect" soldier (putting quotations around perfect because I don't think perfection exists).
This is another reason why I started gravitating towards Azulanette. As ML goes on, Marinette helps Adrien find courage in himself to start doing things for himself and I can see the same happening for Azula.
Along with Adrien, Marinette also helped Kagami break away from her mom's control and became her first real friend in Ikari Gozen. Then you have Zoe, Zoe was terrified of Chloe so she did her best to be Chloe's carbon copy but after meeting Marinette, she changed. Then you have Adoration, when we see Zoe finally stand up to Chloe.
If given the proper circumstances, this same thing could happen between Azula and Marinette. Azula is a child warrior who spent her life dedicating herself to a war that I don't really think she ever truly believed in. Azula deserves to have a chance to change and be better.
Also, even though there isn't much in the name of Azula's love life, the only love interest Azula has ever had has been Chan but due to her lacking social skills, she sent him away (I want to point out that having poor social skills/coming off too strong wouldn't scare Marinette).
Azula would probably be more attracted to stronger people/people who can protect themselves which is something that Marinette does well. She's the holder of the strongest Miraculous, has worn the most Miraculouses than anyone in history (and she's a kid, so she's only going to get stronger), and she's pretty clever too. I want to again point out that Marinette has gotten several different people to fall for her so Azula can be another one.
Also, they'd be toxic yuri, enemies to lovers, with a red/blue color scheme and because I'm me I love that. So I'd still put them under makes sense and compels me.
#when i finish proofreading my next azulanette fic#and finally start working on the other one#it's over for you guys#anon

Summary: Years after being a villain, Princess Justice, AKA Marinette, has arrested for her numerous crimes but worst of all, the love of her life has abandoned her. Now she's off to reset her life.
Babe, happy one year of azulanette. I got you the first ever multichapter fic to celebrate.
Jokes aside, it’s officially been one year since I looked at Marinette and Azula standing next to each other and thought to myself “wouldn’t it be funny if I started shipping these two.” Where did the time go? I’ve been really trying to write more azulanette fics and I finally have time now that I quit my job (yay). I hope you enjoy this fic but before I get into it, here’s some information that I want to establish in the story organically but in case it's not clear:
This story takes place in an alternate version of Earth, so it's not really ML or ATLA.
In this universe, superheroes and supervillains exist
Azula and Marinette are 25
Tartarus is a maximum security prison specifically designed for super villains
Like in the ML Paris Special, Marinette and Alya never met
Azula is Japanese
Marinette is buff because I said so
For nearly a decade, Flairmidable and Princess Justice have been named Paris’s most dangerous couple. Everyone knew that on a whim, they would cause chaos and destruction wherever they went and they loved it.
Tonight was no different. The two of them were running along on the rooftops until Flairmidable stopped running.
He was looking down and had a large grin appear on his face. “How pissed do you think we’d make the heroes if we stole 10,000€ in diamonds?”
She looked down and saw what he was looking at. It was a jewelry store and even in the middle of the night and this far away, she could see how shiny they were. “Very!”
That was all they needed before jumping down in front of the store. Flairmidable walked towards the entrance, Princess Justice tried to follow him but he stopped her. That’s when he told her, “Stay out here, my love. Make sure no one bothers me until I get out.”
“Okay,” was all she said before standing guard. She heard him pick the lock then open the door. She wanted to go with him but he told her to stand guard, so she stood guard. She didn’t know how long he was going to take, so she worried about getting bored. Fortunately for her, she wouldn’t have to wait long enough to get bored.
She heard a light thud from behind her, she didn’t even need to turn around to know it was Hesperia. He was the only hero who would go after her but she wasn’t worried, it had been three years and he still hadn’t caught them.
She didn’t know Hesperia’s secret identity but he was older than her, she guessed that he was old enough to be her dad which only made his inability to catch her and Félix that much more pitiful. If she had to describe his suit, she would say monochrome. His superhero suit was very purple. His dress shirt, jacket, pants, dress shoes, gloves, they were all purple. The only slight variation being his mask, which was still purple but a darker purple and it covered half of his face in a butterfly silhouette.
“Princess Justice, tonight, your days of crime are over. I’m bringing you in.”
That wasn’t the first time she heard that line and she knew it wouldn’t be the last but that didn’t change the gravity of the situation. She was still on guard and needed to keep Félix safe, a battle was on the verge of happening and she needed to be ready for anything.
“I don’t know if you have a clock but you only have seventeen minutes until midnight. You really think you’re gonna capture me in those seventeen minutes.” He looked annoyed, which was good, that meant his attention was more on her.
“If seventeen minutes is all I got, then seventeen minutes it shall be.” That was weird, there was something off about him today and she didn’t like it. She tried to think of ways to handle this. It’s not like she could goad him into following her, this was an impulsive decision, they didn’t have a rendezvous point planned. It’s also not like she could stall, he seems pretty hellbent on capturing her today, which was strange. She had no idea how to handle this situation but she had to think of something and think of it fast.
That led to her mouth working faster than her brain. “I bet your wife has never gotten those seventeen minutes.” She hated that she said that and would be kicking herself later but now’s not the time for that.
Her foot was already in her mouth, she was too embarrassed to think properly, and the words were out of her mouth, therefore out of her control, she couldn't do anything about it now. Time to fight.
She grabbed the scepter she kept around her waist, and held it up so that it was parallel to her arm and the blue bird design on top. She took a fighting stance and Hesperia seemed to understand this and followed her lead and brought his staff up in a fighting position. One moment, they were having an intensive staring contest, daring the other to move. Next moment, they clashed head on with each other, their respective weapons clashed with a loud bang, making this a battle of physical strength, something that they were both good at, but Hesperia had the height advantage, he forced his body to position right above her, using gravity to his advantage.
She had to concede this first blow, so she backed away and weakened her grasp on her scepter. This caused Hesperia to stumble and almost fall.
Princess Justice was going to get him in their next clash. All she had to was–
Before she could finish her thought, Hesperia grabbed her scepter out of her weak grasp. He looked at it the same way a child looks at candy then ran away with it. No one has ever done anything like that before and it left her dumbfounded for a moment until she yelled to no one in particular "what the hell?!" Once the confusion had passed through her, she realized that she needed to go get it. It's not like she couldn't make another scepter but they were a pain to make so might as well chase after the grown man playing keep away.
She followed him and saw that he kept glancing back at her. What was his plan? Why was he acting like this?
Hesperia then made a sharp right and leaped onto the building tops. She almost didn't follow him but then she remembered how long it takes just to make the blue bird design and kept following him. She really wanted to know what his deal was today. She made the same right that he did. Just as she made the turn, the blink of an eye, Princess Justice felt her wrists bound by handcuffs and two large hands grab her shoulders. She couldn’t believe it, she had been caught. After all these years of being on the run, she was finally caught.
She turned her head to see who grabbed her and couldn’t believe who it was. She almost wanted to curl into a ball of shame, it was her old partner. “Cat Noir?” She hadn’t seen him in a while, she actually thought that he quit, but apparently he still went on nightly prowls. He was standing perfectly behind her so she couldn’t get a good glimpse at him but from what she could, he still looked the same, short blond hair, bright green eyes, the only difference seemed to be in his costume. She couldn’t get a good look at it but it was still its normal black bodysuit but there were hints of purple in it. “Did you put the bell and ears back on just for me? How thoughtful.”
He avoided looking at her and tried to keep a stoic face. “Please don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
“It’s not like I’m resisting, I’m just trying to make conversation.”
She was met with silence and couldn’t help but feel sad. She might’ve been on the other side of the law but that shouldn’t mean anything for Cat Noir. He’s always loved to joke around, getting to be quiet was rare. She was about to try again but then noticed that Hesperia jumped down. He lifted his staff and Princess Justice noticed a black butterfly, one of Hesperia’s kamikos, fly towards him. That’s when she realized that this is how Cat Noir was able to grab her the way that he did and why his suit has hints of purple. She would be impressed if it wasn’t so annoying.
After collecting his kamiko, he started walking towards them. Princess Justice knew heroes well, meaning she was about to be forced to listen to a monologue that she was not excited to hear. “Marinette Dupain-Cheng, AKA Princess Justice,” Hesperia announced as he ripped her blue bird mask off her face, “you are under arrest. For your numerous crimes including robbery, arson, identity theft, disturbing the peace, kissing in the train station which is apparently a crime, murder-”
“It was actually an attempted murder, the bomb never went off. Get your facts straight.” She then stuck out her tongue at him.
Hesperia’s face turned red with anger. “It was a murder. The bomb detonated after you left and it killed three people!”
“Fine then, attempted manslaughter.” She flashed a grin at him.
“There’s no such thing!” His face only got more red.
“Sir,” Cat Noir said, trying to steer the conversation back. First he resisted joking around with her and now he was acting as the responsible one? Maybe this isn’t the Cat Noir that used to be her partner.
“Right, for your many crimes. You are sentenced to spend the rest of your life in Tartarus prison.”
Any other criminal would be scared to hear this news. Being sentenced to Tartarus at the hands of a hero like Hesperia and Cat Noir sounded straight out of a children’s comic, a perfect and happy ending, but Marinette couldn’t focus on that because of Hesperia’s face. He was so angry and she’s never seen a person’s face get that red in all her life. “After all these years of trying to capture me and you mess up your big moment. How embarrassing for you!” Hesperia’s face somehow grew even more red. “Besides, you might’ve captured me but I know my prince. He’s gonna get me out of there before the week is over. Just you wait.”
It had been two months since Marinette had been in Tartarus and she hated being there. Everything there was much worse, her schedule wasn’t in her hands, she wasn’t allowed to wear her usual clothes and the ones that were provided for her were uncomfortable, and she had to eat terrible food. It went against everything that she was used to and it made her life that more miserable. What she considered to be the biggest inconvenience are the power dampening bracelets. Even though she didn’t have any powers of her own, she was still classified as a supervillain, meaning she was forced to wear the bracelets that didn’t do anything besides get in her way.
The other prisoners definitely didn’t make her life easier. Marinette put a lot of criminals in Tartarus when she was Ladybug and even though she gave up her life as Ladybug years ago, these people could hold grudges for a lifetime. This meant Marinette had to keep her head on a swivel at all times.
But what Marinette considered to be the worst part about her time in prison is that she couldn’t be with Félix. They both promised to be with each other until the end of time, meaning he would be coming for her. She just had to wait for him, so he could break her out.
That left her now. Sitting at a table during lunch time, picking her food, mentally preparing herself for what it may have tasted like.
“Marinette, he’s not coming.” There was only one person in Tartarus that would ever have a casual conversation with Marinette so she didn’t need to look up to know it was Azula.
Marinette kept stabbing her food as she angrily said “yes he is. He promised to be with me forever.”
“You’ve been saying that since you got here two months ago. He’s not coming, you’re just making yourself miserable.” Azula’s words lingered in Marinette’s head. She wanted to spit out an angry what do you know? but Azula and Marinette had been talking for years. At this moment, Marinette hated to admit it, Azula did know. But she was still wrong. After everything that she and Félix had through together and picking each other up, there’s no way that he would just abandon her now when she needed him.
“He promised me that we would be together forever, so I’m gonna wait, right here for him.” Marinette glanced through her eyelashes and it seemed as if Azula wanted to say something but kept it to herself.
Félix was coming for her. He just needed more time.
Another month passed and it was that time of the day when prisoners were allowed outside, Marinette liked to walk around but before she could get to the path she typically took, she was stopped by people who she assumed were twins, seeing as they looked identical.
“We’ve been waiting quite a while for this day, Ladybug.”
“My name is Princess Justice and I have no idea who you are.” She used to keep track of the villains she put behind bars but when she became a villain herself, she stopped. It seems that it made her memory hazy on names and faces.
One of the twins took a swing at her but Marinette moved her torso and dodged easily. The other twin tried to swing at her and Marinette dodged again easily and leaned down. Marinette then grabbed the older twin’s arm and pulled her down, causing both the twins to fall over.
This wasn’t the first time she had been thrown into an impromptu 2v1 with people bigger than her, just use the combined weight of both opponents against each other, it never fails. Another advantage she had is that everyone else here wasn’t used to fighting without their power, meaning everyone was at a disadvantage except Marinette.
They all brawled with each other for about a minute until a swarm of prison guards came over.
“Break it up!” A prison guard yelled as several of them swarmed around them. Marinette didn’t want to start any more trouble so she just put her hands in the air and backed away from the twins. The twins were handcuffed and were dragged away by four guards while one stood next to her. After what felt like years, she was finally allowed to stand up again, with no help from the guard, and decided that she didn’t want to go on her walk as usual today.
More time had passed since that day, three months to be exact, but Marinette still held onto hope. She had been in Tartarus for five months now but love is powerful. Sure she missed her birthday and their anniversary due to her time in prison but they would be reunited at some point. Besides, distance makes the heart grow fonder, as they say, this means when they get back together, their relationship would be better than ever.
There she sat, like clockwork, she was picking at her food before getting hungry enough to eat it. That was the plan at least until another prisoner slapped her lunch tray away.
Marinette looked up and made eye contact with Azula. Marinette shot Azula a look of annoyance for the situation before facing her fellow inmate.
After being constantly harassed by other inmates, Marinette stopped trying to remember their names. There were too many of them and it wasn’t worth it. Instead she just used the inmate’s numbers to identify them. This inmate’s number was 080924, meaning that her name was Inmate 080924.
“Ladybug.”
“That’s not my name anymore. I’m Princess Justice! Why can’t you guys get that through your skulls?”
Inmate 080924 leaned closer to her, trying to intimate her. “You put me in here seven years ago.”
“Is that when you first started maturing?”
Inmate 080924 leaned back, keeping her mouth shut and Marinette felt relieved. She tried not to start trouble but escalating situations was an old habit of hers and the people here are always looking for a reason to fight back.
Marinette was ready for their interaction to be done and was about to leave her alone until she said something.
“With a mouth like yours, I’m not surprised your prince charming decided to leave you here.”
That made Marinette feel a rage she hadn’t felt in years. Pure blinding rage. Despite the tsunami of anger that was in her mind, she managed to keep herself calm. Her face was neutral, almost like nothing had happened. She just turned around to grab her tray behind her.
“Look at that, I finally got her to-” Those were the last words to leave her mouth before Marinette turned around, with her tray in hand, and slammed it against the inmate’s jaw. She could tell by the force of the impact and sound that she broke her jaw.
“Look at that, I got you shut up!” Marinette retorted.
That started a fight between the two of them. Marinette was used to ending fights quickly but not this time. She wanted to take her time with this one.
It didn’t take long for prison guards to swarm the area and various shouts of “no fighting” rang through the air but Marinette didn’t care. She didn’t care about insults about herself but disrespecting Félix was personal. She kept dodging elbows and fists while throwing out her own. It was rowdy and chaotic for about another minute until all the lights suddenly shut off and a loud buzz rang through the cafeteria.
Marinette could hear the other inmates collapse with a thud, almost one by one, in seconds and she knew that the room was filling up with sleeping gas.
Inmate 080924 fell asleep in her grasp and she knew that she couldn’t fight the gas for long. No matter how hard she tried to blink the sleep out of her eyes, every part of her body was screaming to go to sleep and that was a fight she lost in ten seconds as she also collapsed to the floor.
Marinette woke up with a start. She felt like she was in danger but when she realized she was in her cell, she tried to calm herself down. This wasn’t the first time that the prison guards used the sleeping gas nor would it be the last but she hated it everytime. The effects only lasted for an hour but it always felt like more, making it harder to keep track of what time it is. Another terrible side effect is headaches. Marinette couldn’t tell if the sleeping gas or the fact that she would always fall or if the prison guards didn’t handle her gently when she was asleep but the headaches were horrible.
Either way, Marinette still persisted. All these inconveniences, all this pain, it was going to be worth it. When Félix comes for her and they’re reunited. Any one of these days now.
Today marked the six month anniversary of Marinette’s time in Tartarus and the days were only getting harder.
Ever since Marinette broke Inmate 080924’s jaw, the other inmates learned just how to get under her skin. Practically every day, someone would say something horrible about her relationship and every time she lost control and fought them. She still never lost a battle but she spent several days in solitary confinement, bloodied, hungry, lying on the floor, just counting the minutes until Félix would save her.
She was getting frustrated but she couldn’t allow herself to get mad at Félix. She was stuck in Tartarus, it’s not like just anyone could break in and it’s not the end of the world, the love she had for Félix made her tough and this pain that she went through made it easier to eat the food they served. No matter what, their relationship could survive anything. Even half a year apart and even when people are destroying her body. It was depressing but it wasn’t permanent.
That left Marinette where she is now. In bed, trying to relax but that was when she
Her cell door opened and Marinette happily ran out and saw the chaos in front of her. Most of the prisoners had broken out of their handcuffs and were using their powers freely. This must finally be it, all that waiting wasn’t for naught. Fèlix was finally here to get her out.
She looked around on where he might be but was met with Azula making her way
“Look, I told you he’d come for me!”
“Actually, I did this.”
“What?”
“Yeah, got myself in trouble, overpowered the guards, took off my handcuffs, then started this riot.” Marinette was dumbfounded. It had been six long months since she was originally put in prison and in just one morning, Azula managed to do what she had been hoping for by herself. “Anyway, let’s go. This riot won’t distract the guards long before they activate the sleeping gas again.”
Azula tried to lead the way out but Marinette took a step back. Slowly walking back to her cell. “I really appreciate this but I think… I think I’m just gonna stay here, just in case Flairmidable comes here later today. It is the crack of dawn, after all. He’s probably just waiting until tonight to come get me.”
Azula followed her back to her cell. “Marinette…” Marinette opened her hand, she didn’t recognize what she was holding but it released a gas she could recognize very well at this point. “I’m sorry but you’ll thank me later” were the last words that Marinette could hear.
The familiar smell of sulfur filled Marinette’s nose and she knew that she had maybe five more seconds of consciousness left in her body. She had to think of something quickly. She had to figure out how to stay so that way Félix could find her. She was still in her cell meaning if she was quick enough, she could use her bedsheets to tie herself to the cell bars.
She turned her head to look at her bed but it was already too late, she had already fallen asleep.
First ever multi-chapter azulanette fic, let’s go and I forgot to publish this on time. I’m excited for this and I really want this fic to be understandable if you haven’t seen ML or ATLA. I don’t know how good this’ll be but that’s why we experiment. Another part of this experiment is that I’m going full ADHD with this. Meaning I have notes for this fic, I know how I want it to end, but that’s it. The rest I’m figuring out along the way (and in true ADHD fashion, I forgor to post this).
I also learned a lot about the French justice system and prisons writing this. I really had no idea that prison uniforms don’t exist in France.

[venmos you $1000]
your last post just reminded me i was thinking about azulanette today and honestly i think you are on to something with them. I think someone like Marinette would be *so good* for Azula. Marinette always makes an effort to see the good in people, even when most people would have wrote them off, and having someone genuinely try to see the good in her would go miles for Princess “my own mother thought I was a monster” Azula.
I think to have someone who cares about her not out of fear nor obligation nor hoping to gain something out of their relationship would be totally foreign to her at first, and she would probably try to push Marinette away, but we know Marinette is persistent and eventually Azula would develop a fondness for her. And they’re at least at that ~friendly~ level, I think Marinette would find that Azula can relate to/understand the immense pressure and expectations she’s under better than anyone else she knows and she appreciates that a ton
Your payment came through so I'll hear you out. But on a more serious note, I'm so happy my brain rot is spreading. Part of the reason why I started shipping Azula and Marinette is this idea. Azula is a 14 year old girl who's been put in a bad environment that's worsening her already terrible mental health, she needs support in her life.
There's a lot of things that Azula and Adrien have in common and I wrote a little more about here to anyone who wants to see me talk about them more but Marinette is already to give out a supportive hand. The main reason why Marinette was chosen to be Ladybug is that helping people is just second nature. She's never actively thought about helping people around her, she just gravitates towards them and emanates her natural warmth. Throughout the series, she's supported Adrien, Kagami, Chloe, and Zoe, and all them changed in one way or another to be better.
Unlike Chloe, I do believe Azula wants to change for the better. I will kill and die on this hill as I say that Azula didn't believe in the war. She was a 14 year old girl who saw what happened when you're less than perfect. (This is also where I throw in the "you can't treat me like Zuko" line). Azula heavily relies on fear to make bonds with people (see Ty Lee and Mai) but Marinette has conquered her fears of people who belittled her time and time again.
Also, I'm happy you brought up the "my own mother thought I was a monster" line because it's another reason why I was originally drawn to Azulanette. Adrien and Kagami both fell for Marinette (yep, I might in denial but I fully believe Kagami had a crush on Marinette), and all of them came from families that wanted to make them perfect and they're all seen as senti-monsters.
There's not a single monster in Azula's closet that Marinette hasn't seen and conquered already. Like the ML intro says "the power of love, always so strong" and what Azula needs more than anything else is the power of love.
#mark my words everyone#when i finally have some free time#properly rewatch atla#and finish my other fanfictions#it's over for you#i will write so much azula stuff#asks#moots asks

ooo for azulanette do um 7, 14, 18?
Ship Ask
THANK YOU TAM!!
7. How often do they say “I love you”? & 14. Do they enjoy PDA, or are they more private with affection?
Combining these two to give a full answer.
In canon, Marinette is fine with PDA and has a history of struggling to say "I love you" while Azula just struggles to show affection to people in general.
So I imagine that in the beginning phases, they would more affection in private but as they keep getting closer to each other, they would start showing more PDA until they become really annoying about it.
18. How do they care for each other when one of them is wounded/sick?
This one was interesting but I'm glad that I get to think about this. Practically no one gets hurt in ML, especially seeing as how Marinette is always able to fix everything at the end of every battle, while Azula has practically never experienced lost. But taking into consideration what we know about them, they both seem like they would be awful at the other getting hurt but Marinette would probably get sad while Azula would anxious and have no idea what to do.
Thank you again Tam!!!

Making Breakfast
[Fanfiction.net] || [AO3]
Fandoms: Miraculous Ladybug & Avatar the Last Airbender Warnings: None Characters: Marinette Dupain Cheng, Azula Relationships: Azula/Marinette (Azulanette) Additional Tags: Fluff, Domestic Fluff, Short & Sweet, (VERY short)
Summary: Marinette doesn't get to sleep in as late as she wants to
We have now reached the third ever azulanette fanfiction and even though this one is gonna be a short one I'm still happy. My disjointed thoughts/ideas about these two are slowly but surely becoming jointed, also I did announce an azulanette week coming out in July, so if any of you want to join that go right on ahead. Also the inspiration for this fic comes from a post I made a bit ago anyway, I hope you enjoy.
Marinette wasn't immune to staying up too late. She liked sleeping and tried her best to have some type of semblance of a functional sleep schedule but something about her made it hard to keep in mind how much time has passed in her life. One moment the evening would start the next moment it was almost midnight. This has been going on in her life since she was young and at this point, she's learned to live with it. She could wake on time on the week days but on weekends, she would give herself the luxury of sleeping in an hour or two later than usual.
At least that was what she was planning until the smell of burning food entered her nose. She woke up with a start as the smell she knew just a bit too well filled her senses and she rushed to the kitchen. Marinette was no stranger to burning food but it was still a problem.
As she reached the final steps of her house, she saw the black smoke, smoke that wasn't as bad as she thought, coming from the middle of the kitchen. She reflexively opened a window then turned around to talk to the culprit. "Azula, what happened?"
Her girlfriend batted away some of the smoke around her. "I wanted to make you breakfast but I'm still not good with ovens."
Marinette couldn't stay mad at her. She smiled at the kind gestured, ignored the smell of charred... whatever, and gave Azula a hug.
Yep, this was short but I wanted to try it out. I think I might do more short fics like this in the future for no reason. It absolutely has nothing to do with the fact that I'm planning to write a fallen hero x villain multi-chapter fic that requires more time and attention than a short fic. Also if you're wondering if Marinette's relationship to sleeping is based off personal experience, I plead the fifth.

hi luce!! :D congratulations on triumphing over the customer service prompt tree
🚀 Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
💕 What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?
❤️ What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?
Ask Game
Thanks, Alex, it was tough but it’s over.
🚀 Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?
When it comes to my more “serious” fanfictions, I like to outline beforehand (this is why they take so long to make) but when it comes to the unserious ones or crack fics I like to write as I go.
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Honestly, just the idea of anyone making fanart of a scene from any of my fanfictions is unbelievable to me. But if I had to say any of them then probably my Azulanette fanfiction (Stolen Hearts) or my Huntlow fic (Hidden In the Sand).
💕 What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?
My favorite fanfiction is definitely my Adrichat fic. It was a lot of fun to write but some backstory is definitely in order to fully understand why I love it so much.
For a while, I had another tumblr account but lost access to it in early 2020, and with 2020 being 2020, I just never thought to get another account until 2021 (which is now this account). But in April 2020, Adrichat (the selfcest ship between Adrien and Cat Noir) became a popular ship and I didn’t even know about it until the next day. I was really sad that I missed it but once again, it was 2020 and I had other things to worry about.
But when I made this account in 2021, I decided to make a few Adrichat memes that eventually turned into a one shot that then turned into the five chapter fic it is today. I suffered from a lot of second hand embarrassment but often found myself laughing while writing it.
❤️ What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?
Yet again referencing my Adrichat fic but it’s the last line.
For context, in this chapter, Adrien had made an illusion of Cat Noir to have dinner with his father, who is Hawk Moth. But for reasons, illusions are only visible for five minutes so when time was running out, Adrien made up the excuse that there was a villain on the other side of town but Gabriel knowing there wasn’t one argued back with him. The story then ends with Adrien asking himself why Gabriel was so persistent about this and then the final line of the fic is this
I got the idea for this line when I driving home from work. I was trying to figure out how I was going to end the fic and this was the idea I got. When I had this idea, I couldn’t stop laughing so I knew I had to add it and it seems like everyone who read it loved it too.

Hiya 🥰! For the Writer’s ask game, may I ask for 1, 2, 10, and 23 please and thank you 🥺?
Hi Lyra, happy to hear from you.
1. Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely?
It would be cheating if I said my Maribug fic as I am currently doing just that but a close second is "I Release You From Existence." I don't know how much you know about ML but after season 5, I just feel as if there's more I can do with the idea of Adrien mourning Marinette.
2. Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to?
There's a few things I struggle with but the main ones that I say are unhappy endings and Azulanette.
I don't know what it is about unhappy endings but I can never commit to them. There's always something holding me back from ending the story on a sad note.
On the other hand, Azulanette (a ship I actually came up with) has been a bit of a challenge to write for. I have a lot of disjointed ideas of how I think their relationship would work but I've been struggling to write for this ship for a while. Hopefully I can write more Azulanette next year
10. Top three favorite fic tropes.
Coffee Shop AU (I'm boring I know), Fantasy AU, and Friends to Lovers
23. Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard?
Dialogue is easier for me to write. When it comes to descriptions, it's hard for me to write them in a way that's not distracting/intrusive from the conversation happening.
Thanks for the ask, Lyra, and happy new year to you.
