For some paleo related fun, here's a huge Eurasian Pleistocene Big Cat sketchdump from 2023 when I was brainstorming for White Cat, Gold Plains

I still like a lot of these, though I was obviously trying to lean more into realism than I do in Kindred Also they're not Fleet Fangs, they're a different species within the same genera, Homotherium latidens and Panthera (leo) spelaea

No I need to make a fucking post about this because I just stumbled on this paper, and this is insane.

So y'all know fleas. The little parasitic insects.

Yeah. Those guys.

Well. This study did genetic analysis on fleas (and several other insects) to find out what these guys derive from. Because up to this point, fleas have been just these weird little things in their own order that are... somewhere??? in the Antliophora clade. Previous scientists have thought maybe they're some weird offshoot of Diptera (true flies), because they do actually have vestigial little wing casings.

But this study, and the genetic analysis they did, revealed that fleas are not especially similar to Diptera. They're actually most similar to Mecoptera. Scorpionflies.

That's right. These guys.

Which is completely and utterly insane to me. You're telling me these big, super unique and specialized, weird-ass bugs, somewhere down the line, created an offshoot of these tiny little insects that lose their wings in favor of hopping around, that parasitize vertebrates and feed on blood? Scorpionflies did that??

Idk this is just. So so interesting to me. The Big wide beautiful world of entomology.

Paleo pines wrapped 2024! I wanted to draw mine this year ^^

Had an absolutely blast with this, super happy with how it came out <3

I'm not too experienced with people or fabric/clothes but i tried my best with Zara! I'm quite happy with how she turned out <3

The troodon is Kit-Kat, and the protoceratops is Sharkie, my favorite helpers on the ranch.

little snapshots of a mod i have been working on for a few days, cenozoicraft, understandably based around adding cenozoic animals to the minecraft world along with neolithic tools. its heavily based around hunting and utilizing animal parts. most of what is here is tamable and rideable with fun little taming mechanics, so dont expect to be able to waltz up to a smilodon. more to come soon

Just wanted to say that I do like the format used for moon 9. It reminds me of Pinepaw and the Forgotten World and it's also really interesting being able to see more into Lilac's thoughts; bro has some intriguing ones too. I'm guessing Burnet isn't the only who feels responsible for the attack. Also the bear at the end has similar vibes to the one from Balto and I love it! Is it a cave bear?

It was absolutely inspired by Pinepaw and the Forgotten World! It's such a good story and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet eve
