i was going to go on a further rant about how i wish i didn’t know as much as i do about ww2 but y’all don’t need that, writing it out and deleting it was enough. i’ll just say there was a big difference between growing up with the narrative “nazis were evil, we were the good guys, and it’s very sad that your grandfather died on the beaches of normandy without ever meeting your not-yet-born father but he died a Hero so it’s okay,” and then growing up and reading appallingly realistic and detailed descriptions of the firebombing of dresden and other german civilian cities by the allies, and - and - you know what yeah maybe writing it out and deleting it wasn’t enough bc now i’m dwelling on atrocities again, and the void’s giving me a speculative eye. i’ll stop.
i think maybe it is the difference between my grandfather dying a hero (posthumous medal of honor and everything) and my father living as a murderer for having the same damn job. my father lied about his age very early on in the vietnam war so that he could enlist with his older friends, because he was an impressionable 16-year old idiot (who’d started drinking at 15) who wanted to go off on an adventure with his friends to the other side of the world, and maybe end up like a war hero like his sainted forever-22 father. maybe hoping he could be something more than the ever-worse sequence of deadbeat/abusive stepdads his increasingly depressed and alcoholic mother brought in to futilely try and replace the lost love of her life. to be better for and also get away from a whole bunch of half-brothers and sisters that he was never really suited to be the oldest brother they needed him to be, who he still did his best to shield from the various violent men in their life, with the backdrop of a mother too drawn into herself to intervene. and my father was always a stocky and strongly-built man, but he never grew to more than 5′4″.
so at 16 years old, in 1962, they shipped him off to vietnam to become a jarhead and, when they saw his skills on the range (skills my brother and i share, so maybe it is kinda innate), they put him into training to become a full scout sniper. yeah, like in Jarhead, except in a real on-the-ground combat war. he was in the war for a lot longer than a draftee - maybe five, six, even seven years. it was good for him, the regimentation, the control. he liked it. he needed it. he’d never had it before. it was good for him. i remember asking my dad once, and i remember it very clearly. it had to have been either before my parents got divorced, so i would have been maybe six or seven, or one of the few occasions after i saw him before he moved to jamaica for a few years, so maybe nine or ten. i think it was more like seven, though. by this time my father was on 100% disability from the VA due to PTSD and in maybe the worst of his alcoholism. but i asked him once while watching him work on a job in the sweet florida sun, with me having just enough of a grasp of knowing what the vietnam war was, what war was, and that he’d been in it, “daddy, did you ever kill anybody in vietnam?” and he laughed and said “yeah, quite a few people. it was my childhood that really fucked me up, though.”
and understand that apart from that last part, which is one of my earliest very clear memories (and how fucked up is that?) this whole narrative, i’ve put together from bits and pieces of information over the years from both parents, and knowing how similar to our core my father and i are. it’s a big part of why we haven’t talked in going on five years, bc as sad as this all paints him to have as an origin story, he’s still ultimately an asshole who doesn’t know how to deal with feelings and turns everything into a fight (bc, again, became an alcoholic at 15, got worse and worse, and didn’t get dry until his late 40s and was pushed into a swift divorce with two young children involved). i understand him at his core because we have always, my whole life, been too similar in all our worst ways, and some of the good ones too. but i still feel great empathy for the 16 year old boy with one drunk neglectful, distant, incredible at times mother and a series of abusive alcoholic not-dads and a stream of half-siblings, with the legend of his heroic, wonderful, brave orphan hard worker forever-22 father hanging over his head literally since he was born. and then he went to war, like his father did. he killed enemies, like his father did. he earned medals, like his father did - my father has a purple heart from both physical and psychological wounds, he has a gold star and a silver star from saving his brothers in arms from dying at the hands of the enemy. and he came back from the war to be treated not as a hero, but to be branded as a murderer in an unjust conflict, a living symbol of national shame. that shit sticks with you. i know it has for him for fifty long years.
upon getting home, he immediately grew his hair and beard out (not unlike how my brother does when on leave, but granted, for both it happens within a couple days of not shaving) and went straight back into commercial art, pinstriping, sign-painting and cartoonery back in the ‘70s, which is when he met my mother (who was 11 years younger than him but still technically his boss, and told him she was a lesbian when he first flirted with her, but then they ended up together 20 years) and the rest is history. i’ve inherited from him an addictive personality - my grandmother (who herself died of a heart attack just before i was born, only in her 60s), my father, my brother and i have alcoholism. and sometimes, really, i feel like i’ve inherited his trauma too, his trauma from the always-there presence of his father’s death, his abusive childhood trauma, his war trauma. i feel like maybe my brother, who’s way more chill than me but also joined the military at a young age and now classes himself as a binge alcoholic, inherited at least some of the trauma too. and yeah, my brother’s never killed anybody, but he fixes the planes that drop the strikes and has for a decade, and it weighs on him. he and i don’t talk often for a pair of siblings that were once as close as twins, but we’ve occasionally had long, very late night inter-continental skype talks where we talk about this stuff. talk about how our mom found healing in our stepdad, who was also in the military but never killed anybody, and was maybe gruff and rough with us growing up but never abusive like our dad had the potential to be when he was drinking, or like his own father, who served under patton, was to him. talk about how we respect that he refused as much as he could to continue the pattern of abuse. talk about how my dad and i are too similar in our core nature to ever really get along, even though our traumas are different, but there all the same.
the part of me that’s from my mom’s upbringing (and she’s alluded to having quite a few alcoholics in her family too) wants to spit at this man, get the fuck over it! it’s in the past! but that part of me lead to me not getting proper treatment for my mental health until i was 25. so maybe, for once, my mom’s not right about everything. for once.
if this was a proper thought-out treatise, this would be a great final pragraph to sum up everything above in a beautiful way. but it’s not. it’s me working things out as much to myself as for anyone else. quite a few things in this i hadn’t even realized were so obvious until my brain typed them out as i thought about them. it almost makes me want to talk to my dad again. yeah, my dad’s alive, he’s in his mid-70s bc he was in his late 40s when i was born, and he’s been an old man since his 40s but he’s also probably gonna live well into his 90s. but he’s also like. such an asshole, you guys. (again, mental maturity of a 15 year old). i’m also an asshole. we’re too similar in the exact same way we’re assholes. since i was 16 years old, talking to him on the phone bc i really did want to talk to my dad, pacing around my old room and getting increasingly agitated, he always goads me into a fight. it’s not enough for him to be happy, it’s not enough for him to be friendly, he can’t be sweet unless it’s for a passive aggressive bit. and i won’t put up with his shit the way my very sweet (and god knows where he got it) brother does. generational trauma! lachaim!

avpd asks by @acevoidant
i thought this might be a good (?) activity to better understand myself. i’m definitely on the road to recovery but i had a sad episode today and found avoidant tags on tumblr.
1. how did you find out about avpd? on my fifteenth birthday, i knew i should be happy, but, the whole day i couldn’t stop thinking about my mental space. i think this is one of my symptoms, constantly trying to rationalize and fix my mental state rather than confront the pressing behaviors that cause this (my avoidance). i got ready for bed but i wanted to know what was so wrong that i could never have a normal day. i stopped assuming it was depression, anxiety, ocd, schizophrenia, etc. and considered the next thing i had heard of but never checked: personality disorders. after reading about the criteria for avpd, i found it was strikingly similar to my experience in a way no other disorder has. in short, i guess i just tried searching for an answer for the umpteenth time and found it.
2. are you professionally diagnosed? nope. i don’t know if i really need to be; for me, right now, it’s best if i figure this all out on my own.
3. what age do you think you started having avpd symptoms? my first memories of avpd like symptoms are from second grade when i was about 8 years old. we were let out of the classroom to go to the bathroom and i didn’t want my friends to walk before me (lil meanie) and my teacher called me back into the classroom. i don’t really know what the proper reaction to this is but i went back to my seat, muttered to myself how i was such a bad student, and pulled my hair tie onto my wrist to hurt myself.
4. do you have other mental illnesses? Does avpd complicate these illnesses? If so, in what way? in truth, in truth, in truth, i’m not that sure. i feel anxious often like when i wash dishes or share an opinion but i don’t think its too debilitating. my anxiety is usually just fuzzy chest feelings i get every so often. depression is questionable, but right now, i’m definitely facing a dysfunction that i so often associated with depression (slipping grades, losing sleep, not eating). i believe that my avpd sort of trumps any other mental issues i face and makes my relationship with them much more complex i.e., “i don’t deserve a community/a common place”; “i deserve less than depression”.
5. what do you do to deal with loneliness? i guess busy myself. i never find myself actually reaching out to others.
6. what do you do to deal with depression? if i knew i wouldn’t be writing this.
7. what do you do to deal with anxiety? hmm, i guess try to reason myself out of it? my anxieties usually deal with forces outside of myself, so, it’s much easier to rationalize it. i try to think of my blossoming self growth, my goals, my dreams, and the trust i have in others.
8. if you experience dissociation, what is that like for you personally? i don’t believe i’ve ever experienced dissociation. i think i sometimes do experience depersonalization, though.
9. were you ever misdiagnosed? if so, which mental illness were you misdiagnosed with? how did that affect your treatment? never been diagnosed
10. do you have a safe person? i’ve told my mom i believe i have avpd but we don’t do much about it and i’ve only talked to her about on maybe three occasions. i find a lot of solace in my mom’s side of the family and when i’m with certain cousins i find that my minds quiets and i become a bit of a different person :).
11. have you ever been hospitalized? Ii you have been hospitalized, what was it like and did it help you in any way? never been hospitalized
12. what is your advice to someone who is considering hospitalization or is about to be hospitalized? i don’t think i would really recommend it for anyone dealing with a mental disorder if you don’t pose to a danger to yourself or others. however, honestly, i’m not really versed on what actually occurs in a psychiatric hospitalization. it just doesn’t seem like a positive or pleasant experience that would help,
13. have you ever been in residential treatment? if so, what was it like and did it help? never received treatment
14. what is your advice to someone who is considering residential treatment or is about to start residential treatment? same as above
15. what is your advice to someone who has just been diagnosed with avpd? not sure, i don’t think i could allow myself to muster anything. i guess just find help, whether in a medical respect or in a social respect.
16. who do you look up to that influences your personality/way of thinking? what personality traits/ways of thinking have you taken on because of them? anyone who is materially or emotionally successful, definitely. i find myself often trying to internalize others’ kindness, helpfulness, work ethic, passion, etc. it’s a culmination of different books characters, movie characters, online “personalities,” friends, relatives.
17. who did you look up to when you were young (real or fictional)? i don’t really know, no one really comes to mind in particular.
18. how have you changed since you were first diagnosed? never been diagnosed, however, since i somewhat found my “answer,” i’ve certainly been a lot better than before. whether that has to do with my initial discoveries isn’t clear to me but i am surely better than before.
19. what are some things related to your avpd that you still want to work on? ahaha, everything? the disorder still affects me in the same way than it did at my peak, just to lowered degrees.
20. how are you feeling right now? What is currently influencing your mood? i’m alright rn, we just went to a few parks and walked around different vistas. i had hoji cha bubble tea and i’m feeling ok.
21. do you have any friends with avpd? Ii so, how is that friendship different than friendships with people who do not have avpd? i don’t believe i have any friends with avpd.
22. favorite songs to listen to when you’re in a bad mood? right now it’s ribs by lorde, streetcar by daniel caesar, less and less by maltese, and a story playlist i made for a wattpad fanfic. if i’m in a bad mood and i want to feel better i listen to adam melchor.
23. what do you do to get yourself through a breakdown? i listen to music, watch particular youtube videos, read!!!, or journal.
24. what are your top 3 healthy coping skills? i’m not really sure, i guess breathing, taking a break, and preventing anger/blaming.
25. do you channel your pain into any art forms such as drawing, singing, poetry, etc? “channel pain” lol. i guess i do.
26. are you more of the type to isolate and avoid others or need to be with people all the time because you’re afraid to be alone? isolate
27. are you more of the type to overshare too much personal information or keep too much of yourself a secret out of fear of rejection? definitely keep to myself
28. does avpd affect your appearance? for example, do you change your hair or clothing style frequently? ah, no way. i’ve been 200% better about this recently but a few years ago, i was afraid to wear new clothes and change hairstyles.
29. what keeps you alive? everything and everyone. i love the world, a lot.
30. how open are you about having avpd? maximum security >:( unless you’re my mom. but then again, i think talking about a daily dysfunction-ing disorder twice in about five years isn’t all that much haha.
31. when starting a new relationship, when do you usually think it’s the right time to tell your partner you have avpd? i don’t know if i could start an honest and genuine relationship with someone if i didn’t let them know beforehand. but this could change.
32. do you listen to any songs that perfectly describe how you feel as a person who has avpd? not perfectly but i love first love, late spring by mitski, eartfquake by tyler, the creator, sense by tom odell, if i’m being honest by dodie, why by bazzi, cursive by billie marten, and listen before i go by billie eilish. music wise (not really lyrically) is the entire submarine ep by alex turner, only ones who know by arctic monkeys, singularity by bts, bad religion by frank ocean, and here’s an obscure one: bran-new lovesong by the pillows.
33. were you more of an innocent quiet child or a trouble maker growing up? innocent! i always followed rules.
34. are there any coping skills you want to try that you haven’t yet? coping skills are not really things apart of my routine. sounds like it would be good but i’m just trying to get to college.
35. are you currently in recovery? if so, how is that going for you? i would say yes! it’s going alright, some more lows than highs, but i’m insurmountably grateful for all of my highs.
36. what keeps you motivated? my dreams of becoming a writer/creative/academic and my personal responsibility to stay true to my identity.
37. name five qualities you like about yourself. sorry, this isn’t really a question i’m comfortable answering.
38. do you journal? if so, does it help you cope? yes! though it does help me in a stoic way, like meditation, it also helps because i’m really passionate about all forms of writing.
39. list some of your favorite avpd blogs. i have none; probably won’t ever have one.
40. how do you handle social interaction? i’m pretty good at leveled social interaction and i’ve gotten over my awkward quirky stage of adolescence (i think) lol. anything super deep is difficult for me, though. i almost never have heart to heart’s with anyone anymore.
41. are there any quotes/lyrics/etc that resonate with you? i already have a list of my favorite lyrics so here: “I leave you broken and shaking / but you still call me baby” “Please hurry leave me / I can't breathe / Please don't say you love me / 胸がはち切れそうで / One word from you and I would / Jump off of this / Ledge I'm on / Baby” “You're the sun, you've never seen the night / But you hear its song from the morning birds / Well I'm not the moon, I'm not even a star / But awake at night I'll be singing to the birds” “She said: He might just be a big story / But there's more to life than truth” “in a foreign place / the saving grace was the feeling / what it was the heart he was stealing” “some people think its supposed to hurt / like it couldnt be real / if its putting you first” “its a hail mary / i bet it all that you dont want to see me now / but ill take my shot in the dark / for you” “Don't leave, it's my fault“ concerning quotes, i have none, but aza holmes’ monologue toward the end of turtles all the way down by john green when she’s hospitalized made me sob, really cry. i’ll always remember it as when one of the first times i’ve really felt seen and completely understood. i considered ocd for a bit because of this monologue.

Six things I know about flying in New York
This is the latest article in our series about flying in different states and countries. You can read other articles in the series here. If you’d like to write an article on your state, email us: [email protected]
Not just New York City!
1. New York and Long Island have some of the busiest airspace in the world.
Everyone knows that JFK and LGA are in New York and with some of the busiest, and often the most delayed, airspace in the world. The Class Bravo airspace surrounding the tri-state area is what a friend of mine from the Midwest calls “varsity” airspace, and requires pilots to always pay close attention to it, as well as the many TFRs that pop up around there. What most outsiders do not realize is that both airports are actually on Long Island and located in the borough of Queens, which itself is technically on Long Island, but is part of New York City.
If, like me, you fly from Long Island and want to fly west or south, you will inevitably have to deal with the New York Class Bravo. Flying below it along the south shore of Long Island, you are limited to 500 ft. MSL. A pilot can take off from a Long Island airport and climb to a VFR altitude, say 8500 ft. MSL, and head west and over the Bravo. One interesting fact of the New York Class Bravo is that it only goes to 7000 ft. MSL – not the traditional 10,000 ft. MSL seen in most Bravos.
As busy as the airspace is around JFK and LGA, Long Island has some very busy general aviation airports as well. Farmingdale (FRG) and MacArthur in Islip (KISP) are the two busiest, with Farmingdale falling under the Bravo. However, if you fly eastbound on the south shore of Long Island, you can fly from Jones Beach to Montauk and the route is almost 100 miles of sandy beaches. If you choose to fly the north shore of Long Island you will fly over a rocky coastline and a unique landscape that is dotted with farms and wineries.
2. The birth place of aviation? Okay, international air travel!
Long Island has a rich aviation history, including the most famous flight ever made.
Hey, John Zimmerman: Long Island is the birthplace of aviation! Okay, how about international air travel? On the morning of May 20, 1927, Charles Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field airport and pointed his airplane towards Paris, making a successful transatlantic flight. Flying for 33 1/2 hours and covering approximately 3,600 miles, Lindbergh was the first person to fly nonstop from the United States to France. His feat opened up future international air travel between the US and Europe, and now millions of people enjoy the same transatlantic air service Lindbergh did: cramped, hungry, and tired!
Roosevelt Field also hosted Amelia Earhart and Wiley Post, the latter using the airport to start an around-the-world flight in 1931. Roosevelt Field was located about 10 miles from JFK’s present location and unfortunately closed in 1951 to be replaced with a shopping mall, businesses and a college. For aviation buffs, The Cradle of Aviation Museum is located not too far from where Lindbergh started his flight, with a few old hangars still standing, and is worth visiting if in the Long Island or New York City area.
3. New York provides flying diversity.
Look at a New York sectional and you will see that once you get outside the New York City area, much of the state has mountains and wide-open airspace. One of the things I love about flying in New York is that I can leave my home airport (ISP) and head northwest to beautiful Saratoga, New York, or the Finger Lakes, or the border of Canada. Massena International airport (MSS) is right across the border from Canada and has easy access to Ottawa and Montreal if you want to drive, or fly.
Want to fly to Vermont? Fly to Plattsburgh, New York (PBG) and take a ferry over to Vermont. How about lunch on Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard? New York borders so many great places to fly – Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont – that one can spend years picking and choosing places to fly to for that $100 hamburger or other day flying trips.
Niagara Falls International Airport is another outstanding place to fly to, especially if you do not have a border sticker or the required documentation to fly into Canada. I believe the American side is easier, faster and just as nice as the Canadian side (sorry, my Canadian friends), and if you really want to, you can walk across the Rainbow Bridge to the Canadian side for a quick visit.
New York is one of the few places in the United States where you can fly from airports located near ocean beaches, such as Long Island, and fly to mountains, the Great Lakes, Niagara Falls, another country (Canada), and back to the original airport on day trips. Airplanes are the best way to get around and see the true beauty of New York.
4. Fly to Cooperstown or the Finger Lakes and fly a glider.
Most people think of New York as New York City, our pizza (better than Chicago pizza) and our thick New York accents, but head to what we in the New York City and Long Island regions call upstate New York and you will find many place to fly gliders. Cooperstown is accessible by the nice GA airport, Oneonta (N66), and Cooperstown’s own small airport provides gliding opportunities.
The mountains and valleys of the Adirondacks and Catskills provide some very good glider flying weather and winds, places like Wurtsboro (N82), in the southern region of the state and Elmira on the Finger Lakes are great places to fly and visit.
New York means more than just Manhattan – there are stunning views like this as well.
5. It is hot, it is cold, it snows, and it gets hot.
Want to ski in the winter? Fly to Lake Placid Airport and ski the famous mountain. There are literally dozens of places to ski in New York and many are accessible by GA. New York sees its fair share of snow in the winter, especially in the western part of the state, so proper planning and caution is required. The same airport in the winter that will leave you stranded, freezing and iced in will have higher density altitudes, afternoon build-ups and lots of bumps because of the terrain in the summer. There is not much flat land flying in the State of New York.
One October a few years ago, I flew into Lake Placid for a business meeting. The day I flew up was a typical clear fall day. Smooth flying and great visibility made the day a joy to fly. On the day of my return back to Long Island, the weather changed dramatically. It was cold and brisk, the airport had low ceilings; there was no on-site clearance. The airport is also surrounded by mountains and terrain. To this flatland Long Island pilot, this presented a host of issues that I do not normally deal with and I decided to wait until later in the day for better weather to depart.
6. New York controllers are the best, period.
Yes, they talk fast and have funny accents (if y’all aren’t from these parts), but if you show a modicum of ability to communicate, listen and follow instructions, they are fantastic. I routinely fly IFR from Long Island to Virginia and other points south from FRG/ISP and almost always get routed directly over JFK. Over the years I have always been treated with the same professional demeanor and attention by a departure controller who is also handling a British Airways 777 and me at the same time. I understand the unique requirements of the New York airspace and sometimes there is a re-route and change, but I cannot think of a time where the controllers weren’t cognizant of my airplane’s abilities and the best way to get me on my way and on my route down V16 or V1.
As long as I have been flying in the New York region, I find the controllers at all levels – tower to approach and departure – to be excellent. Full disclosure: I have found all controllers wherever I fly to be the same. We enjoy the best ATC system in the world and every time I fly it shows. I just have an affinity for my fellow New Yorkers, funny accents and all.

REM Sleep Behavior Disorder Gets a Textbook: Carlos H. Schenck, MD

RBD expert Carlos H. Schenck, MD, starts at the beginning.
Interview by Sree Roy | Photography by Christine Hill/Hennepin Healthcare
In 1982, Carlos H. Schenck, MD, evaluated his first sleep medicine patients. A staff psychiatrist at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Schenck had long held an interest in neurophysiology. So it was serendipitous timing that the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center (MRSDC)—which had opened its doors at Hennepin County Medical Center in 1978 as a department of neurology initiative—was expanding its physician base to become a multidisciplinary sleep center. Doctors in other departments were asked if they were interested in practicing some sleep medicine. Since much of sleep medicine and sleep science involves neurophysiology during sleep, Schenck signed up.
As it happened, Schenck’s first day working part-time at the sleep center coincided with the appointment of a patient named Donald Dorff. Dorff told Schenck about his violent dreams and how he’d wake up injured and with his bedroom in disarray, apparently the result of unknowingly acting out those dreams. Dorff was scheduled for an overnight sleep study.
During the sleep study, Schenck witnessed Dorff’s thrashes, twitches, jerks, kicks, and punches—all occurring while Dorff was sound asleep. “It was exciting for me,” Schenck recalls. Equally exciting was the conversation between sleep center director Mark W. Mahowald, MD, (now retired but still making regular appearances at the MRSDC) and sleep lab manager/chief technologist Andrea Patterson, RPSGT, REEGT, (now deceased) the next morning. Had Dorff’s thrashes, twitches, jerks, kicks, and punches occurred during REM or non-REM sleep? Were they seizures? What disorder was this? Eventually they all agreed: The dream-enacting activity could only have occurred during REM sleep.
Patient Dorff is now recognized as the index case for REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), a parasomnia of abnormal behavioral release during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and characterized by the loss of REM atonia, that is, the loss of the muscle paralysis that is supposed to accompany REM sleep.1
Schematic diagram. Left: The pons, the site for generating REM sleep, simultaneously sends ascending activating signals (in red) to the motor cortex and descending inhibitory signals (in blue) to the spinal cord alpha-motoneurons via the medulla, to result in REM atonia, with brief, benign twitches in REM sleep. Right: A range of clinical insults can cause REM without atonia, increased twitching in REM sleep, and RBD, with disinhibition of the REM atonia pathway indicated by the red color replacing the blue color on the left side. [The specific neuronal groups and pathways underlying this schematic diagram are contained in the basic science chapters of a new book published by Springer.] Original art courtesy of I.E. Wong Fong Sang, MSc biomedical sciences/neurosciences; PhD candidate in neurobiology (expected completion in March 2019), Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany. Reprinted with permission from I.E. Wong Fong Sang.
Since 1982, Schenck’s excitement about sleep medicine, and RBD in particular, has grown. Schenck became the inaugural president of the International Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder Study Group, organized in 2009, and he remains an active member. He has authored or coauthored more than 95 peer-reviewed papers on RBD, greatly increasing our overall knowledge of this parasomnia. Now Schenck is sharing much of his and other experts’ knowledge in a new book published by Springer: Rapid-Eye-Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder. The 600+ page guide, available at www.springer.com/gp/book/9783319901510, is intended for sleep centers, sleep physicians, sleep medicine fellows, sleep technologists, psychologists, and others who have the potential to identify patients with RBD, as well as those with an interest in sleep science and dreaming.
The book got its start in March 2015 in Seoul, South Korea. Associate editors Birgit Högl, MD, and Aleksandar Videnovic, MD, were fresh off serving as editors of a different Springer-published book on sleep. At the World Association of Sleep Medicine congress, they approached Schenck at an early morning meeting about working together on a book about RBD. Schenck jokes that they took advantage of his jet lag so he could only say yes, but in a more serious tone, he adds that he has no regrets about embarking on the project, since it was to become the first textbook on RBD.
Schenck wrote or cowrote 10 chapters, and selected experts—many of whom are part of the international RBD study group—to write additional chapters on their fields of RBD research expertise.
The book is particularly timely. An epidemiologic study recently found the prevalence of polysomnography-confirmed REM sleep behavior disorder to be more than 1% in the general population. “That’s the same prevalence as schizophrenia,” Schenck says. “Most people know about schizophrenia. More people need to know about RBD.” What’s more, the study observed an equal male-female ratio of RBD in the general population.2 Because RBD predicts future parkinsonism, this means women—who typically have less aggressive symptoms—must be diagnosed, particularly if neuroprotective therapies become available to prevent the later development of parkinsonism and its associated dementia.
The book was unveiled at a “Tuesday Noon Meeting” at the MRSDC, a vital weekly focal point for discussing new and challenging patients, new ideas, new findings, and more. Soon after the unveiling, Schenck spoke with Sleep Review about the clinical implications of RBD diagnosis.
Neurologist Mark W. Mahowald, MD, who has an EEG expertise background, points to a PSG tracing, as Schenck and Ranji Varghese, MD, look on. Mahowald was sleep center director at the time the index case of RBD was identified. Varghese, trained in sleep medicine at the Mayo Clinic, is the current director of the MRSDC.
Sleep Review (SR): Other sleep disorders can mimic RBD symptoms. For example, “OSA pseudo-RBD” occurs when patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea are misdiagnosed with REM sleep behavior disorder due to aggressive motor-behavioral events with dreaming that can happen during apnea-triggered arousals. Can you speak about the differential diagnosis? Why is it important to get an RBD diagnosis correct?
Schenck: First, it is important to make the correct diagnosis of dream-enacting behaviors so proper therapy can be initiated to control the underlying disorder causing the behaviors and prevent injury to the affected person and bed partner. However, to make the correct diagnosis, the sleep physician and sleep laboratory should have experience with evaluating parasomnia patients both clinically and in the sleep laboratory with a sufficient PSG [polysomnography] montage and simultaneous time-synchronized video recording, as described in the book.
Peer-reviewed journal articles have identified the following conditions, besides RBD, that can cause aggressive dream-enacting behaviors: OSA pseudo-RBD (usually severe OSA); non-REM sleep parasomnias (sleepwalking, sleep terrors); nocturnal seizures; and most recently periodic limb movement (PLM) disorder pseudo-RBD (with very elevated PLM indices). In these reports, the treatment of the underlying disorder controlled both the underlying disorder and the dream-enacting behaviors. Also, REM atonia was preserved during both the initial and follow-up vPSG [videoPSG] studies, thereby excluding RBD as the basis for dream-enactment.
Furthermore, sleep clinicians need to be aware of the diagnostic entity of parasomnia overlap disorder, a combination of RBD and non-REM parasomnia that the MRSDC first identified in 1997 with a series of 33 cases,3 and which is recognized in the International Classification of Sleep Disorders-Third Edition (ICSD-3). These patients can have dream-enactment with RBD and with their non-REM sleep parasomnia. Finally, part of the comprehensive evaluation of dream-enactment is obtaining a careful medication history, since most antidepressants (except for bupropion) and other medications (eg, beta-blockers) can trigger RBD.
Second, the importance of diagnosing RBD correctly, with PSG confirmation, and excluding other disorders, is because we now know that more than 80% of RBD patients age 50 years and older will develop a parkinsonian disorder, on average 10-15 years from the time they develop RBD.4 The implications of this finding will be discussed more during this interview.
SR: We typically think of most patients with RBD as being middle-aged or old men. What about women and RBD?
Schenck: Women can certainly have RBD, but it is generally milder and with fewer injuries. So they present for medical attention much less frequently than men, who have more aggressive and injurious dream-enacting behaviors.
However, it is the presence of RBD, with the loss of REM atonia, and not the severity of RBD, that is the indicator of future parkinsonism. This means that once disease-modifying therapies are identified to slow down or halt the progression from “idiopathic RBD” to parkinsonism, then the women with mild RBD (and also the men with mild RBD) must be found so they can also receive the protective therapy.
In this scenario, sleep medicine clinicians should alert primary care and geriatric physicians and nurses about RBD and the risk of parkinsonism and dementia and encourage the use of simple RBD screening questionnaires that can be administered to older patients and their spouses.
SR: Can young people have RBD?
Schenck: People of all ages can have RBD, beginning in childhood when RBD is most often associated with narcolepsy, but also with the parasomnia overlap disorder, and more rarely brainstem tumors and other neurological conditions. The treatment of cataplexy or clinical depression in childhood with antidepressant medications can also trigger RBD. This is true for adults as well.
youtube
SR: Can animals have RBD? Have we learned anything from animal models?
Schenck: Dogs and cats have been reported in the veterinary medicine literature to have RBD with injuries, prompting their owners to bring their pets to the animal clinic for evaluation and treatment. What is so interesting and gratifying is that experimental animal models of RBD in cats, rats, and mice have been developed since 1965, which have provided key insights into the brainstem nuclei and circuits responsible for REM atonia—the targets for the parkinsonian disease process—and for understanding RBD in humans. Now the therapies developed for treating RBD in humans are being used by veterinarians to treat naturally occurring RBD in animals. This is the completion of a special human-animal therapeutic circle.
SR: How much loss of muscle paralysis during REM sleep must be observed for you to be confident in making a diagnosis of RBD?
Schenck: This is one of the most common questions asked after my lectures on RBD. The general consensus in the RBD research community, based on carefully gathered data reported in peer-reviewed journal articles, is that about a quarter of REM sleep should have loss of REM atonia. However, this is not a rigid cut-off. The ICSD-3 diagnostic criteria for RBD even allow for the diagnosis if there is modest loss of REM atonia, but if an episode of dream-enacting behavior was recorded during REM sleep and there is a convincing clinical history of RBD.
SR: RBD has been linked to the development of Parkinson’s disease later in life. Several studies found that for people who develop RBD after age 50, there is more than an 80% chance of conversion to Parkinson’s disease or its related dementia.4 How do you break that news to a patient?
Schenck: This is a very important topic that is carefully dealt with in chapters 22 and 23 of the RBD textbook. For patients age 50 years and older, there needs to be some mention about the future risk of conversion to parkinsonism, if for no other reason than the presence of this high risk on the internet, and so either the patient, the spouse, other family, or friends will find out. Just Google “RBD” and the Parkinson’s connection pops right up.
So it is clearly far better for the patient to hear this news first from the doctor than from someone else. The thorny issue is exactly how to break the news, and here is where the art of practicing medicine comes into play. The educational level and extent of medical sophistication on the part of the patient are important factors, along with the personality style (eg, obsessional, detail-oriented versus impressionistic, casual style).
The most simple and basic information to impart to a particular patient would be that “because of your RBD, there is a risk of your developing a brain disorder at some time in the future, and you should follow up regularly with your doctor and discuss this matter with him or her.” Then the doctor can field follow-up questions from the patient and spouse and proceed from there. On the other hand, for detail-oriented sophisticated patients, full disclosure of the risk for future parkinsonism should take place. There is a positive side to this scenario: many RBD patients are interested in being enrolled in future neuroprotective studies, and they are also willing to be enrolled in studies on biomarkers to determine which cluster of biomarkers in “idiopathic” RBD can best predict phenoconversion within 2-5 years, which makes research funding feasible. The RBD textbook covers all these issues in various chapters.
SR: What about patients who are younger at the time of diagnosis? Will they also convert to Parkinson’s?
Schenck: This is another common question I am asked. The answer is twofold.
First, we don’t have the data yet on the longitudinal outcome for RBD patients under the age of 50 years, so currently we don’t know.
Second, there are retrospective reports showing how presumed RBD (namely, dream-enactment but without vPSG confirmation) began decades (such as in late adolescence or early adulthood) before the emergence of parkinsonism. So the younger RBD patients should be told they may carry a risk, but that we are not sure. They should follow up with their doctor, who can provide updated information based on new research findings. We also don’t know the natural history of parasomnia overlap disorder and whether it carries a risk for parkinsonism.
Varghese (right), with Schenck, holds a 256-electrode high density (HD) EEG head net, which is a tool employed by the MRSDC in a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They monitor non-REM parasomnia patients (who have sleepwalking, sleep terrors, sleep related eating, etc) to capture behavioral events in the sleep lab, and then correlate the behaviors with the HD-EEG findings.
SR: What is the status of the scientific research that is trying to figure which RBD patients will convert to Parkinson’s? And at what biomarkers are they looking?
Schenck: This is an area of intense scientific research, for the reason we discussed earlier (in regard to identifying the highest-risk RBD patients for converting to parkinsonism within 2-5 years, so they can be enrolled in neuroprotective trials). Chapter 36 by Ron Postuma, MD, MSc, addresses the topic of biomarkers, with some of the most important ones being loss of smell, vision changes, subtle motor abnormalities (including gait), EEG slowing, abnormal brain imaging findings, mild cognitive impairment, constipation, depression, etc.
I should point out that a number of biomarkers in isolation are quite nonspecific, such as constipation or depression. But when they are clustered together with other biomarkers, especially in the powerful context of RBD, then they can become predictors of imminent phenoconversion.
SR: What is the status of therapies for RBD? Are any therapies being investigated that may prevent the later development of Parkinson’s?
Schenck: Clonazepam and melatonin taken at bedtime are the usually effective firstline therapies of RBD, as confirmed by an American Academy of Sleep Medicine standards of practice publication in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.5
However, an exciting publication from earlier this year in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation described another (complementary) therapeutic approach. Based on the correct logic that since virtually all middle-aged and older RBD patients are in the process of developing parkinsonism, the authors posit that the physical and occupational therapy that is employed in parkinsonian patients should also be started in newly diagnosed RBD patients. The aim is to maximize the extent and duration of functionality. The areas of physical therapy identified were postural muscles, trunk range of motion, movements practice (involving amplitude and speed), balance training (for fall prevention), agility training (to maintain mobility under challenging environmental and dual task conditions), aerobic exercise, and gait assessment. The areas of occupational therapy identified were securing the safety of the sleeping environment, developing compensatory measures for autonomic dysfunctions, rehabilitating cognitive dysfunction (such as memory dysfunction), and voice and speech therapy.6 The latter is to address the four components of speech that can be affected in early parkinsonism (aperiodicity, alternating motion irregularities, articulatory decay, dysfluency).
Finally, basic scientists and clinical investigators are actively searching for promising neuroprotective agents to test that may slow down or halt the progression from RBD to parkinsonism.
Schenck dedicated the first RBD textbook to Mahowald (left) and to the late Michel Jouvet, MD, PhD, pioneer in the first experimental animal model of RBD.
SR: What is the status of figuring out the cause(s) of RBD?
Schenck: Besides parkinsonism and antidepressant medications, there is a broad spectrum of neurological disorders that can cause RBD by their impact on REM atonia, as discussed in detail in the RBD textbook. Also, autoimmune diseases, paraneoplastic disorders (related to remote malignancies), and toxic-metabolic disorders can cause RBD. And a new frontier of acute stress-induced RBD needs further research. Trauma-associated sleep disorder (TSD) has been reported in a series of cases that involved some loss of REM atonia with aggressive dream-enacting behaviors in PTSD patients. Table 1 in the textbook preface lists the 46 areas of research that intersect with RBD, indicating how RBD is at the center of many important areas of clinical neuroscience and sleep medicine.

Alternative Pain Relief through Chiropractic Treatment
The following blog post Alternative Pain Relief through Chiropractic Treatment is available on: Botti Chiropractic & Wellness Oak lawn
Is your back in pain? If you are looking for an alternative medication for such pain, chiropractic medicine may be for you. Unlike conventional methods of treatment, chiropractic care gives importance to the improvement of one’s health. They are focused on mitigating and reducing the risk of pain and illness.
In the US, more than 20 million Americans visit chiropractors annually. More and more are seeing benefits and seeking reliefs from various causes ranging from accidents to muscle strains.Learn more about chiropractic medicine in this article. If your looking for a back and neck specialist, be sure to check out if they are licensed chiropractor specialist. To further know more about chiropractic treatments, read article below.

What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments, the theory being that proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Manipulation is used to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, or repetitive stress, such as sitting without proper back support.
Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It is sometimes used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment.
Aside from chiropractic medicine, massage parlors and spas also offer relief from pain and provide alternative pain healing options. When you are faced with the dilemma of choosing which option to take, read this informative article about the benefits of either a massage or a chiropractic medicine.

Your muscles attach to your bones and whether or not they are tight and contracted is controlled by nerves. If bones don’t move, the muscles will have no reason to lengthen. Considering that, when faced with the question “should I do chiropractic or massage” the answer would clearly be to have a chiropractic adjustment. If you are under regular chiropractic care and your vertebrae are moving as they should, massage will be a great addition.
How do you know if your bones are moving properly? Is the motion in your neck restricted when you look at the ceiling? Can you comfortably sit up with good posture at your desk or do you feel yourself falling forward as the day goes on? When you try to look at your blind spot while driving, do you have to rely on your mirrors because your neck is too stiff? When you turn your neck do your shoulders turn with it? When moving your shoulder blades back and down, can you do it comfortably or are your shoulders typically lifted up next to your ears? If you answered yes to any of these questions, your problem is stemming from an issue with your skeleton and chiropractic would be the best choice for you.
Sometimes a back or neck pain is more often related to nerves. Do you ever have tingling in your finger tips or feet? Do you have referred pain down an arm or leg? Do you worry when you bend over if your back will give out or you won’t be able to stand up? Are your fingers or toes numb? All of these things point toward an issue with your nerves and your problem needs chiropractic attention.
Massage is a wonderful thing. It stimulates healing, blood flow, just the simple act of someone touching you is relaxing. Is it a cure for back problems? I don’t think so. Typically the reason your muscles are too contracted is much deeper and more complex than a simple muscle issue. It often relates to poor posture, a sedentary lifestyle where you are spending too much time in a seated position during the day and then not getting enough exercise when you are done with work.
When faced with the choice of chiropractic or massage, try chiropractic first to get your spine moving better on a more consistent basis and then supplement that work with massage. They both work very well together. On top of both of these, make sure you are following a regular exercise and activity program.
If you are still not convinced about this alternative method of healing your pain, here are just some of the known benefits that you can derive from going to a chiropractor.

Top 10 Chiropractic Studies and Research
Finding a good chiropractor isn’t only key to correcting the damage caused by years of poor posture or trauma — it’s also important for everyone wanting to take a proactive approach to his or her health care.
I don’t know of any other profession on the planet that can prevent neuromuscular-based disease like chiropractic can. That is why I’ve been personally getting adjusted for over 10 years and recommend my patients, friends and family members to do the same.
But don’t just take my word for it. Here is some of the medical research and studies proving the therapeutic benefits of chiropractic.
1. Sciatica
The European Spine Journal published the findings from a clinical trial last year uncovering how chiropractic adjustments resulted in a 72 percent success rate in treating sciatica and related symptoms compared to the 20 percent success from physical therapy and 50 percent from corticosteroid injections.
Compared to most medical treatments, few interventions can initiate back pain relief and healing like chiropractic adjustments can!
2. Low Back Pain and Neck Pain
In a study published in the British Medical Journal 2003, 183 patients with neck pain were randomly allocated to manual therapy (spinal mobilization), physiotherapy (mainly exercise) or general practitioner care (counseling, education and drugs) in a 52-week study.
The clinical outcome measures showed that chiropractic adjustments resulted in faster recovery than physiotherapy and general practitioner care. Moreover, total costs of the chiropractic-treated patients were about one-third of the costs of physiotherapy or general practitioner care.
Another study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found patients with chronic low-back pain treated by chiropractors showed greater improvement and satisfaction at one month than patients treated by family physicians. Satisfaction scores were higher for chiropractic patients.
A higher proportion of chiropractic patients (56 percent vs. 13 percent) reported that their low-back pain was better or much better, whereas nearly one-third of medical patients reported their low-back pain was worse or much worse.x
In a study funded by NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to test the effectiveness of different approaches for treating neck pain, 272 participants were divided into three groups that received either spinal manipulative therapy from a doctor of chiropractic (DC), pain medication (over-the-counter pain relievers, narcotics and muscle relaxants) or exercise recommendations.
After 12 weeks, about 57 percent of those who met with DCs and 48 percent who exercised reported at least a 75 percent reduction in pain, compared to 33 percent of the people in the medication group. After one year, approximately 53 percent of the drug-free groups continued to report at least a 75 percent reduction in pain, compared to just 38 percent pain reduction among those who took medication.
3. Headaches (Tension and Migraine)
Second only to back pain, headaches are one of the most common conditions regularly managed by chiropractors. At the time I conducted this research, over 230 peer-reviewed articles referenced chiropractic’s ability to help cure, prevent and ease the burden of headaches and migraines in people all across the globe!
A group trial found that 22 percent of people who had chiropractic treatment saw the number of attacks drop by 90 percent. In that same study, 49 percent said they had a significant reduction in pain intensity.
Compared to most medical treatments, few interventions can initiate headache relief like chiropractic adjustments can.
4. Colic and Ear Infections
A 2012 study published in Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic adjustments greatly reduced colic symptoms.
Although very few randomized control trials have been conducted describing the clinical effects of chiropractic care on children, literally scores of case studies have been documented that describe how children suffering from otitis media (ear infections), acid reflux and colic have experienced complete to near complete resolution after just a few visits.
The reasons for this vary, but one common theme is that nerves controlling the gut and brain are intricately connected to each other and are quite sensitive to neurological insult caused by vertebral subluxations.
5. Neurological Conditions
Exciting research is currently being conducted via upright MRI showing how upper cervical adjustments affect various brain-based conditions. What we have seen so far is quite remarkable.
Not only are MRI scans revealing that cerebral spinal fluid and blood flow are markedly increased after a chiropractic adjustment, researchers are observing that cerebellar invagination (when the cerebellum drops down below the skull line) is being reversed and brain plaquing (common in multiple sclerosis patients) is disappearing!
Montel Williams, the famous TV host, was interviewed about his experience as a MS patient under chiropractic care. Check it out here to see how it changed his life!
6. Blood Pressure
In 2007, George Bakris, the world expert on hypertension, published a study with a team of researchers in the Human Journal of Hypertension proving that one upper cervical chiropractic adjustment had the same effect as two blood pressure-lowering drugs. Even more fascinating, the effects of just one adjustment lasted more than six months!
Compared to the placebo-treated patients, those who got the real procedure saw an average 14 mm Hg greater drop in systolic blood pressure (the top number in a blood pressure count) and an average 8 mm Hg greater drop in diastolic blood pressure (the bottom blood pressure number).
Other studies have shown similar findings with hypotensive patients, and their low blood pressure was raised to normal levels after chiropractic care. This is exciting because it highlights the body’s ability to create a homeostatic balanced environment once vertebral subluxations are removed.
7. Surgery Prevention
Chiropractic has long been heralded by natural health care providers as a natural method to prevent back surgery.
In fact, the Journal of the American Medical Association just recently published its low back pain guidelines and suggested that people suffering from back pain first try chiropractic before resorting to surgery.
8. Frozen Shoulder
Last year a clinical trial was published describing how patients suffering from the debilitating condition frozen shoulder responded to chiropractic care.
Of the 50 patients: 16 resolved completely; 25 showed 75 percent to 90 percent improvement; eight showed 50 percent to 75 percent improvement; and one showed 0 percent to 50 percent improvement.
9. Scoliosis
Chiropractic adjustments for scoliosis coupled with muscular rehabilitation techniques may help prevent the progression of scoliosis. Organizations like the nonprofit Clear Institute founded by Dr. Dennis Woggon have set out to empower health care professionals with an effective chiropractic system to treat people with scoliosis.
They’ve perfected a model and discovered that it is possible to effectively treat the condition without the use of restrictive braces or dangerous surgeries. In many case studies, participants have seen a 10 percent to 30 percent decrease in their scoliosis curvatures. You can read about some of the cases here.
If you or a family member suffer from scoliosis, I strongly recommend reaching out to a certified Clear Scoliosis Center to see if they can help you!
10. Athletic Performance
There is a reason why athletes both today and in the past, like Michael Phelps, Jerry Rice and Joe Montana, are under regular chiropractic care. In fact, over 50 percent of NFL teams have a chiropractor on staff.
Because it is so effective at pain-based and pathological conditions, one of the most overlooked aspects of chiropractic care is that it enhances personal and athletic performance. Studies have sown that it:
Reduces inflammatory cytokines
Boosts your immune system
Enhances pulmonary function
Decreases mental and oxidative stress
Relieves muscle tension
And can naturally increase your energy level
Studies have even proved, objectively and subjectively, that chiropractic patients experience “overall increased bodily function,” which includes bowl regularity and mental clarity.

I preface writing this journal by making it clear/transparent that I am an aspiring fiction writer/fantasy fiction writer who is writing under the blog section Stella Carrier In Heaven Freelance Fiction. This means that I am mixing in parts truth and parts fiction to help strengthen my creativity and to have something to look back at for my own progress both for present and years from now. I have to follow my intuition to refrain from explaining for now what is truth and what is fiction when it comes to writing this heaven freelance fiction journal entry as well as my other freestyle stories. However, I do show appreciation for both supporters and critics who look at my online writings for various reasons. For karmic and spiritual reasons, I had to make this clear out of necessity.

To My Heavenly Spiritual Ally Team Based in the Afterlife Journal Entry 17-Started Thursday May 25, 2017
I have much on my mind as I navigate the wisest and most fruitful actions to take when it comes to healing my career and money situation as it relates to being a temporary employee to where my contract only resumes after August 13. Of course, I would like to set myself up for receiving money year round as I have been able to do so before. I am in the process of wisely matching up what I want to do with what is for my husband and myself. The only thing I do know for sure is that, regardless of how my employment and money situation play out, I must stay residing in the Washington D.C. area for the rest of the current year for reasons that are only going to make more sense to me intuitively weeks, months, and maybe even years down the road (which I trust to be within 10-11 years or less).
Yes, I lay on my couch in the apartment that my husband and I live in while my husband is at work one day after putting in some efforts with applying to jobs that would help me garner year round employment. I do take full responsibility because I accepted my current job knowing it was temporary but I suppressed my emotions on how concerned I might feel about being in between money incomes during the summer time. Regardless of what my well-meaning critics think, I am not the type of woman to quit a job without another one lined up unless I am relocating outside of the area that I live in entirely. Yes, regardless of what others think, I am far from shy when it comes to being receptive to the possibility of moving to another state andor my dream location of the Hampton Roads Virginia area without another job lined up. However, I would still give an employer the proper minimum of at least a 2-3 week notice with increased awareness that the employer could tell me to leave work that same day. Yes, I am aware that an employer could fire andor lay off an employee on short notice at will for any reason that they like. However, I believe that with strong karma, and wisely following my intuition, I could eventually rebound and reinvent myself professionally regardless of if I am forced to leave or if I am allowed to stay as long as I like. With that out of the way, I sometimes take advantage of the free time by going back to sleep after my husband heads to work. Recently, I thought of my future as I usually do once I laid on the bed to go back to sleep after my husband left for work.
Seconds later, I am in colorful outerspace background similar to what I had recently seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy two film and I feel myself flying over to a planet that looks like a refined version of our earth. A female dressed up as Ella Henderson is closing singing the Ghost song and starts to sing the Glow song. I noticed a crowd of various people and spirits dressed in various anime costumes dancing along near the stage and close to a house that resembles a house featured from January 2017 titled the Inside the Obama’s New House.
I walk towards the living room and I noticed that there are three tables situated in the living room area. One table has a spirit resembling the lead singer of Train in his music video for Drive By complete with a table cloth that has images of a California winery. A line of people are waiting in line to grab a title of the book Synchronicity and the Other Side: Your Guide to Meaningful Connections with the Afterlife by Trish MacGregor and Rob MacGregor.
The other table has what looks to be male and female spirits who all look to be in their 30s but I somehow figure out that they are recently departed earth spirits who left their earth lives in their 70s. A male spirit resembling the lead singer of Survivor in the Eye of the Tiger music video is giving out a copy of the following book to the male and female spirits waiting in line complete with a tablecloth with a Tiger image of the following book; Prayers to the angels and the archangels by S Rob.
I am tempted to go to that table because I noticed that a spirit that resembles Alan Rickman is coming over to that table in order to help out the other male spirit to pass out the Prayers to the Angels and Archangels book. This is especially because I purchased the Prayers to the Angels and Archangels book on December 24, 2015, just a few weeks before myself and millions of other movie fans were surprised about Alan Rickman dying. I only wanted to approach with harm-free intent and to see if this was a male spirit simply disguised in costume as Alan Rickman or if the spirit was actually Alan Rickman.
Before I could go to that table to fangirl over this particular spirit as I had seen both the male and female spirits doing I hear what sounds like a benevolent voice from a third female spirit who resembled Belinda Carlisle in her brilliant and classic music video Heaven is A Place on Earth (a gem of a song that I was first exposed to around the time I was seven years old). The female spirit tells me to just call her Alannah which I admit that I am trying to figure out what she is trying to tell me as she then plays the song Gods and Monsters by Lana Del Rey. I then intuitively get the message that this spirit Alannah is just trying to show me an aspect of who I am in a past lifetime.
Alannah then compassionately tells me before I show you the books that my table represents I want you to pay attention to this paper that I am showing you. I saw Alannah hold up the paper to the following three songs to me; Miss Independent by Neyo, Most Girls by Pink, and Independent Women by Destiny’s Child. Right away, I intuitively understand that my higher self is gently nudging me to embody that type of woman talked about in those three songs by adjusting my career and money goals to help me achieve that reality, even if my well-meaning critics think I am reaching too high.
Alannah’s table turns a bright purple as it reveals the following three books in front of me;
Intuition for Beginners: Easy Ways to Awaken Your Natural Abilities (For Beginners (Llewellyn's))
Diane Brandon
Weight Loss: Law of Attraction: Lose Weight Fast With No Diet Tips and Tricks For Easy Weight Loss (weight loss tips, no diet weight loss, weight loss motivation) Kindle Edition
by Nathan Powers (Author)
Money Manifestation Meditation by Christopher Mitchell
Alannah then explains to me that my career and second college degree dreams were placed inside of me for a reason and even though I am tempted to visit the other two tables, and especially to see if the male spirit resembling Alan Rickman is real that the three books she is showing me are 3 of them that I must focus on right away. Before I could ask Alannah more questions she disappears and a male spirit resembling lead singer Hozier from Take Me to Church appears.
The male spirit tells me to just call him Jesse but he admits to me that he actually has a completely different name and physical appearance. Jesse explains that he has to avoid giving out his actual name and physical appearance for karmic reasons related to the fact that he is a helper to my main male spirit guide. Jesse explains that my main male spirit guide still keeps his true physical appearance hidden from me for harm-free reasons to help protect my marriage not just for my temptation but for his.
What Jesse means by this is that the whole idea of how men and women must conduct themselves in marriage is an earth concept and is completely different from what is allowed in the spirit realm. However, there has been a recent phenomena of many married people making under $40,000 dollars or less who have passed away sooner than what their earth contract stipulated after seeing the physical appearance of their spirit guides. Jesse reads my mind and explains what is concerning about is the fact that many people living on earth, myself included, promised both our allies and enemies that we would incarnate and be in their life both for their benefit and not just ours even when our critics/enemies would try to mess with our attempts to be there for their benefit as well.
Jesse further explains that he escorted the soul to a heavenly world over less than three hours before meeting me, a woman who is exactly my age and in my economic situation/marital situation who was allowed to see her main male spirit guide a year ago as part of an experiment they did but must not be explained to me. Anyhow, this particular female fell in love with her male spirit guide after unexpectedly seeing him during a major economic trauma during her sleep. Let’s just call this recently departed woman woman A. Up until then, the male spirit guide was able to resist Woman A’s hidden magnetism because she was not able to use her imagination to fantasize about meeting him and actually succeeding in doing this as the power of imagination is even more potent in the spirit realms. However, Woman A’s hidden magnetism and imagination got even stronger when her military officer husband carried on an affair with a popular coworker at their jobs. Some of Woman A’s guardian angels tried to intervene by trying to influence some of Woman A’s female coworkers to warm their hearts to her to be her friend and hang out with her after work.
This almost worked where Woman A made some female friends at work, until one of her other popular coworkers who secretly had a crush on Woman A’s husband unknowingly brought Woman A’s husband and a coworker closer together by spreading rumors and gossiping about Woman A which made it trickier for her to land another job after being laid off. Woman A knew it was a waste of time to try to be more likable but she knew that it was also a waste of time to stop another woman from sleeping with her husband until she herself (Woman A) found another job to try to strengthen her marriage. Woman A’s night time dreams increased during this time to the male spirit guide in her dream whose physical appearance she saw and she pretty much acted more aggressive and wild than she does in real life and pretty much forced herself on him. The male spirit guide was pretty much aggressive himself in his previous real-life incarnation on earth and so he reciprocated Woman A’s erotic feelings. However, the magic of that intimate union brought to manifested her suppressed desire to return to the happy life that Woman A had in heaven prior to her current earth based life and Woman A unexpectedly died in her sleep one day after her husband left for work. Stella, speaking as a helper to your spirit named Jess, You may be secretly asking what is so wrong with that especially if Woman A’s husband was popular at his job and had a work based mistress while Woman A could help her husband in other magical ways from heaven. Additionally, a strong argument could be made what else did Woman A have to contribute if she was not a golden sheep in her family and she was trying to increase the number of friends she had both at work and outside of work.
Well, Stella, as Jesse I will explain to you that Woman A left behind many supporters and allies, both in her work and personal life, who she promised before coming to her current life that she was going to help in direct andor indirect ways. Additionally, Woman A was contracted to relocate next year to another state within the U.S. where she would live there not just for the benefit of herself but for the benefit of both her allies and critics in both her personal and work life. Yes, Woman A and her male spirit guide are carrying on a romantic relationship as I speak this to you. However, now the supporters and critics that Woman A has promised to help have to wait longer than necessary to experience the benefits of the help she promised them than if Woman A would have stayed alive for at least six decades more (the length of life that she had left before she used the power of her imagination to seduce her male spirit guide that she found irresistible).
Last, but not tragically least, the mistress of Woman A’s husband did become pregnant and coworkers at the husband’s job showed their support with a baby shower. However, the mistress of Woman A’s husband realized that she actually was in love with another man that was around the same age as Woman A’s husband only after Woman A died. Woman A’s husband realized that he missed Woman A and even carried on a sexual affair that looked like Woman A but was not anything like Woman A personality wise. Now Woman A’s husband has to pay child support to two different children of two different woman that he is no longer with and have gone on to marry other men. Woman A actually had in her life contract to help her husband pay child support to the first child had she stayed alive because she was meant to go on to make at least 50,000 a year after taxes. However, due to Woman A being dead, Woman A’s former husband had little choice but to ask his mother for help paying child support. Now, Stella you of all people know that it is not fair for the mother in law to have to do that. It was actually meant for Woman A to stick around and live to help her husband pay child support to the child of the mistress who had his baby. Additionally, Woman A was actually meant to go on to make enough money to repay her mother in law back at least 30,000 dollars after taxes of today’s money plus a nice paid for vacation to Europe.
If Woman A was still alive today, she actually would have went on to make more money even in a long distance marriage and improve her marriage to her husband as the challenges in their marriage was actually not related to the spending that critics would think but rather the situation of Woman A’s husband being the sold breadwinner when it is actually in Woman A’s destiny to be a financial provider and be a career woman her whole life (well was anyhow before Woman A activated her suppressed desire to return to life as she knew it in heaven before her previous life after experience the power of what happened when she succeeded in having her way with her main spirit guide).
I ask Jesse what all of this has to do with me and he explains the he is just telling me the story to help me realize that I have it in me to create heaven on earth while I am still alive rather than waiting until after I die. Jesse appearing as the lead singer Hozier known for the song Take Me to Church is a way for reminding me to go back to church, even in my employment situation, because what I am going through requires being around the presence of other people.
Before I could ask Jesse any more questions he then disappears from the table and Alannah reappears back in his place. Alannah then explains to me that she has just spoken with my main male spirit guide as well as my team of other celestial spirit allies as well as my higher self in another room of the house while Jesse was speaking to me and has some messages for me. Alannah then takes my hand and tells me she must take me to another house nearby as I am getting too distracted by the male spirit guide who is only disguised as Alan Rickman (Alannah explains that the male spirit is actually a kind and charismatic spirit gifted with charming female spirits who has the ability to shape shift in his dreams). The spirit has harm-free and good intentions but Alannah prefers I avoid getting too close to him today as that spirit actually symbolizes someone who is fan of Alan Rickman’s work who I have yet to met within 2-5 years of my current lifetime. I admit I dearly love my husband and I intend to ensure that the marriage between my amazing husband and I last for the rest of our current lifetime as well as I intend to be a more prosperous financial provider for my husband and I. However, I admit that I am curious to know more about who I sense is a male spirit that is either around the same age as my husband and I or older and who I sense to have previously known from a past life or a life between lives (i.e. maybe I met him in a heavenly realm before incarnating back on earth before my current lifetime on earth). Alannah telepathically reads my mind and explains all she is allowed to tell me is that he has a connection to serving in the navy and enjoying the Last Ship tv show just as I do. Currently, he resides in Norfolk Virginia and one of his first exposures to my online writing was when I shared an educational link pertaining to Georgetown University’s Master of Professional Studies in Applied Intelligence.
For karmic reasons, Alannah has been instructed by my main spirit guide to avoid explaining further for now to me and instead escort me to another house as I sense a little what she means because I sense the spirit she is referring to seductively smiling at me from the next table (as in like the Look of Love song by ABC) and I am almost tempted to come to him when Alannah gently hugs me and instantly we are both transported to another house.
This time the house physically resembles the stylish and lavish house shown in the following article;
Bob Hope's Spaceship Home Fetches $13M

The house looks gorgeous from the outside and Alannah explains to me; Stella time is of the essence for you to use the three books that I had shown you at the table as soon as possible, especially the ones relating to weight loss and intuition. Please understand that I know that you are only following your intuition and heart by deciding to go back to school by 2018 even if it means you can only take one or two online classes a year in something related to public relations/marketing/advertising. Additionally, you did agree that prior coming to earth before you’re current lifetime that you are going to follow your passion to be a writer with little concern as to obscurity or fame not just for your benefit but for the benefit of supporters, rivals, and critics who take precious time out of their lives to look andor glance at what you write for their own benefit and happiness as well. However, I am here as Alannah to also tell you to start devoting increased time to blogging about your thoughts and what you learned through at least three of the courses that you paid for on udemy, keep an open mind to Lynda.com as well, and make more time to walk at least 10 miles of more at least five days out of the week even if it means your sleep schedule is only around 5 hours per night. Some popular, attractive, gifted, and talented critics are going to question your motives andor choices but let them as it is human nature to project our own feelings and thoughts on to others. This means that you are going to have to alter your freestyle storytelling and other blog activities. However, are blogging andor freestyle writing at least once a month in other areas online is still in line with improving your intuition and creativity. However, time is also of the essence for you to open an additional email address to script some of your private dreams, and you must do this as soon as possible. It is far from politically correct for me to tell you this but understand that you building/improving on your intuition as well as using the law of attraction to achieve weight loss is actually part of your destiny and you must keep trying at this for your own bliss and happiness regardless of how long it takes. The following knowledge is both for your own benefit and that of others; Concern yourself more with becoming more self confident, full of spiritual power, and most of intuitive, in your case Stella work on your intuition and the self confidence and spiritual power are going to naturally come together with this. Additionally, it was your celestial ally team in collaboration with your higher self who gave you the idea to start a wish list online on at least your blogs that is inspired by Amazon.com for you to start an Intuition wish list and a Writing wishlist. Do this right away and both of your wish lists can sometimes be shown on facebook and twitter. However, and this is very important, only show your writing wish list on linkedin avoid showing your intuition wish list on linkedin for reasons you are to understand later. Stella, I am reading your mind and what makes me feel qualified and safe to advise you of these things is because I am a recently departed former navy career counselor and human resources person who knew about you in Norfolk Virginia and was connected to someone that you knew in Norfolk Virginia who was and still is a supporter of you and who you are going to meet again due to karmic business that your higher self promised their higher self 18 months ago without both of you knowing due to this being done while you were both sleeping obviously in different parts of the United States. Last, but not least, there is no sugarcoating that you are going to get judged and labeled crazy by some popular and influential people for what you are writing less than 23-48 hours that your entry gets posted. However, there are enough supporters on your side who are also popular and influential in their own right that are going to glean something from what you wrote, but this may only be acknowledged after at least 10-11 years from now, possibly even 23-48 years from now along with many of your other writings. I am throwing you this motivational/encouragement bone to help remind you in a healing way that you are following your intuitive heart even when other people, even from the new age andor occult community that you have tried too many times to join the tribe of, try to judge you andor say things in a way to where they are only trying to help you in their way but they need time and patience to eventually understand that life path of what you are on. I Alannah, leave you Stella with the following fun message.
Just then, I notice Alannah going into a room of the same house she took me to that is playing the song Power by Snap. I try to follow her to the room but I am instantly transported to a train from a previous dream I had that I was riding on. I remember seeing a classmate from either middle school or high school, whose family was from the middle east, speaking in a polite way to one of my long-time friends from middle school. They were just speaking as platonic friends andor close family members do on earth, I just wish that I could decode what my higher self was trying to tell me by showing this. I then am also shown a scene in one of my recent dreams that I had after I went to sleep after my husband went to work. A man was cooking a breakfast meal as part of his job and I saw him cooking some bacon. I tried to eat it but it seemed like the food was cooked in a way that a food stylist would do for a cooking commercial andor food poster. For whatever reason, I remember the bacon and I promised myself that I would ask my sweet husband what he thinks of the dream as fortunately he has stood by me during both my good times and challenging times during my current earth lifetime. As a result, I am obviously going to remember my husband loving me regardless of how much money I make during the rest of my current earth lifetime as I would do for him. Before I go outside the house to wake up, Alannah approaches me in a changed gold and violet party dress with the following message: Stella one more thing, I want you to remember the message of grade schools from our visit. No, I am not telling you to go back to school to be a grade school teacher. Being a grade school teacher is very important work but as a former human resources person and a navy career counselor connected to the USS Eisenhower I am telling you this; it is part of your destiny to eventually actually live andor work near grade schools in the Norfolk Virginia area but also keep in mind middle schools and high schools but you were actually following your intuition when you were thinking about being either a lunch lady, janitor, andor school administrator at a grade school.
What this has to do with you while you are living in the Washington D.C. area, there are enough people on this earth, especially in the United States, who are always going to have kids to make up for people such as yourself who voluntarily choose to be child-free. What that means is that regardless of how our current American society judges parents and people who choose to be child-free, each person is following what feels most joyful to them whether it is a woman who chooses to be childree, a woman who chooses to have one or two kids, or a woman who chooses to have more than 4. Well meaning and popular critics are going to judge you for considering andor applying for employment in grade schools in either the Washington D.C. area andor the Norfolk Virginia area. However, many of the supporters and critics that you promised to help and exist on earth not just for your benefit but also their benefit work in various jobs in the grade schools in this area. Your personality, couple with your employment background makes you a strong candidate for jobs related to being a lunch lady, janitor, andor school administrator at a grade school. Your destiny is still a work in progress so to speak to also be open to working in hotels, motels, fast food places, grocery stores, andor malls near grade schools so to speak as well. Once again, within minutes of you posting this, many popular, accomplished, andor influential people may judge you to be crazy as you are actually an avant-garde woman who writes andor thinks about things ahead of time. However, you agreed to be unacknowledged while enduring judgment from others, there are a multiple variety of publicly acknowledged avant-garde men and women who also think ahead of their time that are going to pave the way for people considered eccentric such as yourself. However, fortunately there are also enough influential, kind-hearted, popular, and people from both modest and accomplished walks of life who secretly are supporters of what you write so this is going to be for the benefit of them even if you are only acknowledged for this years from now andor after you transitioned to one of the heavenly realms after your current earth life. After Alannah explains this to me I am awoke by my alarm clock to the song Your Man by Josh Turner. For whatever reason, as much as I would like to speak to my husband Rusty at that moment, I realize that I would be more considerate and loving to him if I wait until after he comes home from work to ask him about the breakfast cooking dream by a cook that featured bacon.

Scotch, automobile price lists key venture to Uk-India exchange settlement publish-Brexit
Reducing the excessive tariff in India on Scotch whiskey and cars is one of the top demanding situations in the loose alternate agreement (FTA) that the Theresa Can also authorities hopes to sign with India after Brexit, as a respectable briefing estimates a 26% growth in bilateral trade.
Casual talks at the FTA have begun, though the formal method cannot start until Britain completes its exit from the European Union through March 2019. There’s a great deal hope inside the Scotch whiskey enterprise that the FTA talks might be an event to decrease tariff in India – its lengthy-standing demand.
Consistent with a briefing by London-based totally Commonwealth Secretariat economist Rashmi Banga, the United Kingdom’s exports to India after Brexit will increase via 33% per annum, at the same time as the United Kingdom’s imports from India will increase by using 12% per annum beneath the brand new FTA.
“India has continually had lots less trade and funding with the United Kingdom than with the EU Union. Despite the fact that, alternate and investments between India and United kingdom were growing gradually due to the fact that 2005,” the briefing stated.
“An attainable purpose for there being a higher growth inside the quantity of exports from the UK to India than the variety of imports to the United Kingdom from India is that India imposes higher tariffs than the United Kingdom does.”
London-primarily based experts say the Commonwealth briefing tasks the most ability – 26% boom in bilateral change – under an FTA that reduces all tariff to zero, even supposing the truth is possibly to be less optimistic.
Pratik Dattani, Ficci’s United kingdom director, advised HT: “The record confirms the potential for giant destiny increase in trade among India and the United Kingdom. This is mainly because the most latest Uk authorities figures display India has dropped out of the top 20 export markets for the United Kingdom.
“The capability for an alternate introduction if tariffs among each international locations are reduced to 0, the main assumption of the analysis, comes in the gemstones and jewelry, clothing, leather goods and purses, and equipment and mechanical home equipment sectors.
“within the offerings zone, There’s a tremendous potential to growth Indian exports to the United Kingdom in computer services shipping services, creation, and monetary offerings… The coming months will no question see a need for persevered sturdy analysis of the effect on alternate in one-of-a-kind sectors.”
Anuj Chande, South Asia head at specialists Grant Thornton, said: “There are some challenging sectors, inclusive of the IT outsourcing and alcohol industries. Even as the United Kingdom-India alternate is moving within the right course, it’s far still incredibly low given the ancient connections.”
Banga’s evaluation states that India’s imports from the UK are anticipated to growth from $5.2 billion to $7.eight billion, an almost 50% upward thrust in step with annum below the put up-Brexit FTA, whilst the UK’s imports from India might upward thrust by means of most effective 12% from 2015.
“one of the reasons for That is because many merchandises from India is already challenging to low United kingdom tariffs. The cost of the UK’s imports from India is expected to boom from $nine.1 billion to $10.2 billion (around 12% in step with annum),” the briefing stated.
Julie Hesketh-Laird of the Scotch Whisky Affiliation (SWA) believes the FTA with India will provide a boost to Scotch in India, wherein it faces a hundred and fifty% import tariff. Present day SWA figures showed that the volume of 70cl bottles exported to India among January and June 2016 jumped to forty-one million from 29.1 million within the same period in 2015, with value via 28% to £forty three million.
U.S.A. Follows Brazil’s Motion Levying price lists on Imported Chinese language Tires
On occasion, it appears that everyone our Government Branch Politicians are the same. Many people like to chastise President Bush, and yet, I in no way actually noticed him as a terrible chief. Positive, I felt just like the Iraq Warfare value an excessive amount of, it did, still, these days we’ve bases there in Iraq and while you have a look at a map and bear in mind the assets and such, all in all, it turned into no longer the sort of terrible play; I’m only concerned with the feed tag and agree with we may want to have sold us of a for the same trillion bucks.
One factor that the Bush Management did do, which made me shake my head turned into the tariff tax placed on thieve imports. I felt as if that became absolutely political, and for the most component, it turned into. As a loose marketplace guy, Friedman “unfastened to Pick out” type, I cringed at that Motion and considered it the worst mistake in policy ever crafted from his Administration.
Now, I see President Obama’s Management making the identical mistake catering to the Steelworkers Union and different Union Labor supporters as he slapped a tariff on automobile tires from China. Why on earth could he do this? Simple, the unions are his biggest Fitness Care Supporters and here we are lower back to politics as normal.
Ok, so what you say? Well, it is a large so what to begin a change War. Brazil set levies on tires coming from China too, even after Brazil-Russia-India-China “BRIC” were given together and promised to work collectively economically and as buying and selling companions. So, does that Movement make it Ok for America to push aside its own unfastened-alternate regulations; in reality not. The Administration believes they’ve Global trade case-law backing them up in this move.
But, China isn’t always that silly and has called the pass a “violation of world loose-exchange concepts and has complained about U.S. Protectionism,” Consistent with CBS Information interview with Beijing Management. In my opinion, this whole element stinks, and it just suggests the hypocrisy of business as usual and the politics of Washington DC. I’m embarrassed by my Executive Branch and consider this pass was absolutely disgusting.
Lance Winslow is a retired Founding father of a National Franchise Chain and now runs the net Assume Tank. Lance Winslow wonders what tariffs are subsequent.
Be aware: All of Lance Winslow’s articles are written by using him, now not by means of Automatic Software, any computer Software, or Artificially Intelligent Software. None of his articles are outsourced, PLR Content or written via ghost writers. Lance Winslow believes folks that use those techniques lack integrity and mislead the reader. Certainly, people who use such cheating equipment, crutches, and tricks of the alternate May additionally also be breaking the law via deceptive the patron and misrepresenting themselves in online advertising and marketing, which he reveals completely unacceptable.
Proposed US Tire Tariff Increases Volatility Buyers are acquainted with tracking stock charge volatility based on familiar marketplace forces including deliver, call for, organization control, or the fee of capital. However with little warning volatility can also be accelerated by using home and foreign political developments.
Take automobile tires. China manufactures and exports a lot of tires. In 2008 greater than forty six million Chinese tires had been added into the U.S. marketplace. According to the Wall Road Journal, they comprised almost 17 percent of all of the tires sold in The united states. inside the first seven months of 2009, China exported $1.3 billion in tires to the USA. They aren’t all from Chinese companies; fundamental U.S. groups like Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (CTB) manufacture tires in China for sale within the U.S. Lately, Cooper Tire made a settlement with the Chinese language government to find all of its manufacturing ability in China in exchange for the proper to make investments without delay in other Chinese tire organizations. The huge loser was the U.S. process marketplace; the huge winner changed into Cooper Tires’ earnings margins.
On September 11, 2009 President Barack Obama announced that the united states could levy price lists of up to 35 percentage on Chinese tires. Consistent with White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, beginning September 26, tires imported from China might be levied an extra 35 percent tariff inside the first 12 months, with a 30 percent tariff within the second yr, and 25 percent within the 0.33.
Mr. Obama’s choice to impose a tariff on Chinese language tires displays his promise to Exertions unions to greater strictly enforce exchange legal guidelines, especially towards China, which has grow to be a production powerhouse at the same time as the united states has lost thousands and thousands of manufacturing unit jobs. The tariff will include Cooper tires made in China.
In reaction to the proposed tariff, on the subsequent Sunday night time China’s trade ministry introduced that it might take the first steps toward imposing tariffs on American exports of automotive merchandise and bird meat. The following day the ministry demanded talks with the us on the tire tariffs. some Chinese language internet sites known as at the Chinese language authorities to sell all of its large holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds.

Alternative Pain Relief through Chiropractic Treatment
The blog post Alternative Pain Relief through Chiropractic Treatment is republished from: https://bottichiropractic.com/

At Botti Chiropractic and Wellness, expect that there will be three phases of care after your first visit. There is relief, corrective and wellness care following the first visit which consists of you being subject to examinations and x-ray studies. The chiroporactor, Dr. Botti, is interested in the lives of his patients and works diligently to not only solve their health problems, but also to create realistic plans to meet their health care goals.
