× you were his senior at work, loved by almost everyone in the workplace, including elias. in his eyes, you were perfect; a walking epiphany of perfection. even the higher-ups seem to favor you above anyone else.

× at first, it started off as a curiosity when elias began to follow you home. then it slowly began to turn into a habit. you two took the train together after work, and you would always give him a polite nod and a small smile everytime your eyes me. it sent his heart into overdrive every single time.

× something you found weird about that, however, was how you’ve never seen elias taking the same train when going to work.

× then there would be coincidences where you would run into him outside of work; whether you were out shopping or eating out in your favorite restaurant. you would invite him to your table every time you see him and he was always happy to come over. being around you was an opportunity he couldn't miss out on.

× things only started to get weirder when your things suddenly started to go missing. first it was items you left on top of your work desk, but then things from your house started to mysteriously vanish over time. you figured that you probably misplaced them.

× but you weren't the type of person to misplace things..

"get home safely, senior !" a group of your co-workers waved at you from the distance, all red in the face as the clung onto each other for support. you had just finished a company dinner with the rest of your co-workers, so it was no surprise that you were a little tipsy too. your cheeks were slightly flushed, both from the alcohol and the cold evening breeze that brushed against yout skin.

you raise a hand to wave back at them with a slight smile. "you too !" you yell back as you watch them stumble away into the distance. with a sigh, you turn on your heel to start walking home.

however, you stop on your tracks when you felt your head throb, leaning against a pole on the sidewalk with a small groan. maybe you were a bit beyond the word ‘tipsy’ with how the world seem to spun around you when you tried to move, and before you knew it—

"blergh–!" you threw up on a bush near the sidewalk. that was when you realized that you were probably drunk.

you groan as you wipe your lips with the back of your hand, unaware of the presence approaching your hunched over form. before you could comprehend what was happening, your blurry vision faded completely. the last thing you saw before passing out was a pair of pointed black shoes stopping in front of you.

when you awoke, you found yourself in an unfamiliar room. you felt as if something cold was wrapped around your wrist when you tried to sit up. you look up to find that your right hand had been cuffed to the bedpost.

you did the next thing you could do at your current state; letting your gaze scan the dimly lit room. to your surprise and utter horror, you found that the walls were filled to the brim with your pictures. moments from when you were in the shower, sleeping, or getting changed were all captured in polaroid photos.

whoever brought you home was a stalker, and an obssessed one by the looks of it.

the door swung open with a familiar face soon entering with a camera in his hands. elias seemed surprised to see that you were awake with the way he fumbled to close the door behind him. "you're awake. i thought for sure that you'd be asleep for another hour." he seemed disappointed as he stalked towards the bed.

he had planned to take more pictures of you sleeping in his bed, restrained. but with the way you were staring at him with such a dumbfounded look—

a flash of light and the sound of a shutter going off.

you raise a hand to cover your eyes from the flash of the camera. elias couldn't help himself. you looked so adorable, looking all confused and pretty before him.

"my collection. do you like it, senior ?" elias questioned as he slowly lowered his camera, a timid smile on his lips as if everything about this was normal.

you furrow your brow in a mixture of disgust and confusion. you didn't answer. you had no idea how dangerous or unstable he was, but you do know that you didn't want to accidentally set him off. but by the looks of it, the face of disgust you displayed was enough to do the trick.

with the way his gaze hardened and the way he now had his hands wrapped tightly around your neck, his weight straddling your hips, you can conclude that he was pretty mad.

your free hand instinctively wrapped around elias' wrist, trying to pry them off as you desperately gasped for air. he kept mumbling incoherent words about you being an ungrateful brat as you thrashed around beneath him.

before you could completely pass out, however, elias released his grip on you. you violently coughed under him, tears forming in the brim of your eyes. "f.. fuck ! you're insane." you cursed at him. though, elias didn't seem to react as aggressively as before, a creepy smile making its way on his lips. he changed moods so fast, he was like a ticking time bomb of some sort.

"yes, just like that." elias muttered shakily. his other hand moved to cup your cheek, his thumb glazing over your tears that had started to form out of fear. you looked so vulnerable under him, he couldn't help himself. "ah shit." elias breathes out.

"if you keep looking at me like that, i won't be able to hold back anymore, senior." his hand left your cheek and lifted the camera that hung on his neck. he snaps a picture of your tearful expression, which you protested to by snapping your head to the side and closing your eyes tightly.

elias' ragged breathing filled the silence. there was an obvious tent forming in his pants that prodded at your hips. you visibly grimaced in disgust. however, there wasn't much you could do when you were restrained.

you sucked in a deep breath. the tears that started off as beads stuck to your eyelid had turned into a complete waterfall that cascaded down your cheeks. your moans filled the room mixed with the sound of elias' camera shutter that consecutively went off with each thrust his hips made.

She finally has freedom and she’s doing this out of spite but this isn’t the life she truly wants, we all know that. I think she’s overwhelmed and she doesn’t know what to do with her feelings now that she’s killed He Who Remains. It didn’t give her the type of satisfaction that she wanted and if you think about it, she made it her life mission to bring down the TVA. Now that that’s done, more or less (she did realise after all that all those branches mean the TVA won’t go away properly) she’s a bit clueless and it shows. She’s gonna have to come around of course eventually… I mean, plot and story progression, after all, buuuut still—she’s gonna have to make up big time if she wants me to forgive her. She hurt him. That’s practically unforgivable. And on that note, I know there are Sylki shippers here reading this but every time I see these two together, they give me sibling energy. Soooorry, I can’t help it! 😂

So now the branched timelines are gone—for now, leaving only the Sacred Timeline, more or less—for now. There’s gonna be new branches again, of course. Something came to my mind the second time I watched it today though… didn’t they say in Season 1 that once a timeline reaches the red line, it can no longer be controlled by the TVA? Did I miss something here, was that a lie made up by He Who Remains so they’d take care of branched timelines as soon as possible? Because if it was true then how did they prune those timelines? Almost all of them were way past the red line! Or maybe this will have different types of consequences later on? Who knows!

That key lime pie tastes as good as it looks, by the way. So let’s talk about Loki’s and Mobius’ conversation while they were having a slice. I already read a few comments today and saw that a lot of people were missing the fact that Loki failed to mention that he was mind-controlled by Thanos when he attacked New York. I agree—it could have been thematised more but then again… I still think it was. Hear me out:

We know that the sceptre was influencing Loki—but not in the way he was using it to influence others. The sceptre/mind stone brought out the worst of Loki’s emotions and intensified them—in this case, his anger at his father and his brother (which he mentioned) and which is what Thanos used to manipulate him, promising him the “throne of Midgard” etc. It was a slippery bargain of course, because The Other was watching Loki and making sure he upheld his end of this bargain, or else Thanos would kill him. After all, why did he strike a bargain with that purple grape in the first place? He was hurled through space when he fell from the Bifrost. Remember? “I remember you tossing me into an abyss, I who was and should be king!”

So… yes, Loki was manipulated and mind-controlled by Thanos, we already knew that, of course, and personally, I think it’s still so traumatising for him to think, let alone talk about it that he would rather focus on his anger that caused all of this. If Loki was the honourable hero character (who we don’t need him to be anyways) he probably would have let Thanos kill him no matter what he offered. Maybe he wouldn’t have talked his way out of it with a bargain that meant the cost of many innocent lives. Instead, he let his anger drive him and Thanos used that to his advantage. That’s my ten pence on it!

From now on, I’m as in the dark as you guys. No clue what’s gonna happen in Episode 3 but I reckon we’re gonna meet Renslayer again. Let’s give her a good slap in the face when we do, shall we?

Spoilers for the ending of the soul eater manga

Finished reading the soul eater manga and uh,

First off, What the FUCK is Boob madness, hello?????? Also did they just fuck over Crona like that in the ending??

I dunno if I prefer the manga ending more than the anime ending if I'm being honest lol

Manga definitely had more time to develop and finish characters arcs and build tension, but the ending was,, a little odd and a bit rushed imo. They just brushed over Lord Death's death, things went back to "normal" way too abruptly, and I get that Crona's committed an unspeakably heinous act and deserves to be punished, but they just left them on the moon with a sorta cliffhanger? Pair it up with the boobs as an attempt at comedy, it's enough to take me out of the immersion.

Anime and its ending was rushed, but some of the direction for certain scenes/episodes took my breath away. A good mixture of music and imagery is always a guaranteed hit with me. Also the art style has this charm that the manga doesn't quite grasp at the ending.

Veryyy personal preference/nitpick, but I really prefer the way Anime!Maka's drawn more compared to how the Manga drew her later on. Something about the dead eyes with no highlights and particularly stylized body proportions makes Anime!Maka's art style more appealing to me.

I like how the face and limb proportions are stylized in a way that makes her not look like a generic anime girl, uh for a lack of a better term. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but point is, I just like how she looks cute, but in an aloof and kinda hardened way. A fine line to walk on but I thought BONES handled it beautifully.

I'm tempted to feel the same way about Manga!Soul (who's also been smoothened out a bit like Manga!Maka) but his identifying features like the shark teeth, droopy eyes and pinched eyebrows are still there.

Alright, to give an overall review of my personal enjoyment: episode 1-24 was peak Soul Eater imo, apart from some episodes, it was a continuous hype train for me.

After that (with the exception of episode 33) it didn't get my blood rushing as much as the first half did.

I read the manga, picking up from the Brew scuffle, and it was pretty good! That is, up until the book of Eibon in the lust/sloth chapter which made me want to bash my head against the wall again.

The Lust chapter was so cringe, it had no redeeming qualities in my eyes. Mayhaps the "creepy fucking asshole" vibes (which made me deeply uncomfortable) served the narrative for the Sloth chapter, which is Giriko wanting to instill absolute fear into Maka, but still, blergh. The fight with Black*Star and Kid was pretty neat I guess.

I don't mean to sound so negative, but this barely scrapes the amount of disappointment I felt. I came for Maka, my heart was stolen by the duo of the show, but in the end, SE is probably not the best when it comes to female protagonists in shonen imo, lol-

6/10, really strong start, such a damn shame it fizzled out and died at the end though.

Constant social interactions are the worst especially when you can't be yourself. Having to act like you're someone else is tiring and you should really get some rest. Like not just sleep or be alone for a bit, but take some days to actually properly recharge, if possible.

I think that the previous P4 took all the brain cells when they left. Otherwise, why would they 1. think that killing a bunch of boys was a good solution and 2. think that bringing the boys that they killed back to life was a good idea?

Druitt and the LM are both pedos, but I think Druitt would think he's better than LM because he (Druitt) has a title, is a doctor, and gets away with buying and selling kids. LM has to watch in the shadows as boys are beaten, while Druitt goes and kidnaps kids to sell. Druitt thinks LM is in a league waaaayy lower than him. I heard she's working on the ending. I do think it might take a few years for it to end tho. I feel like there's still too many questions for it to end soon. Like, the current arc might lead to the final one, but from what I understand SebaCiel have yet to meet UT&R!Ciel again and are on their honeymoon... so quite a while still

Maybe Claudia fucked her over and Vincent was about to too, so she'd rather just get rid of them all. We know she doesn't trust O!Ciel because she had the Charles follow him during the Circus Arc. So it might not be too far-fetched to think that many of the previous Guard Dogs have turned against the crown at one point or another and she might've wanted to start over with a cleaner slate.

I mean, maybe Vincent just saw something he really didn't like and was willing to fuck England over. Let drugs freely on the streets and sell secrets regarding England. But I could be wrong. He does have this dude called Chlaus as an informant and this guy travels a lot. Ok, you know I did my 24 reads in 24 list yesterday, so out of those the one I’m most looking forward to reading is A Power Unbound. I just need to finish this thing I’m writing (though big whoopsy, one magical smut fic has accidentally turned into two magical smut fics 😬) and then I’ll get into it. All the images I have in my head for these fics are post book 1 canon and I don’t want anything else interfering with it before I’m done, so that’s why book 3 has to wait.

For films: Saltburn. Saw the trailer when I watched Bottoms and it looks bonkers.

I’m trying to remember what tv is meant to be coming out this year… The White Lotus 3? The Last of Us 2? The rest of season 2 of The Traitors, that’s for sure.

Eremika is such a boring, and undeveloped ship that just seems extremely one sided and convoluted. I don't like how Yams handled it especially since he sucks at writing romance. I wish we got to see more of mikasa's growth individually apart from eren. It's sad what he did to erens character especially in the last chapter, it just doesn't add up. I also really dislike how Kubo handled ichigo and rukia, basically I think all shonen male authors should never touch romance with a 10ft pole.

"romantic" ... display of ... I’m having uni struggles. I wanted to have something ready for my professor 3 weeks ago and I’m just... I don’t know. I missed my own deadline (I told her about what I wanted to send her and when but I still missed it) and then I had a headache every day for a week and then the next week I was sick and now I’m stressed and don’t want to do anything at all. I’ve printed out some texts I think might be good to read still but... I just don’t know. I’m a bit lost at the moment.

I think what I have to do now is technically looking at all the research I did and adjust my PhD project accordingly and then just send it to her. But I feel I don’t know enough, I haven’t progressed enough and the more time I let pass (while sick or even just reading more and more) the more insecure I get. Blergh. 

I have to kick myself in the butt and make a plan for this week and stick to it. (But I also have two Big Bang posting dates this week and urgh. Stress.)

It’s frustrating. I know this is a brain thing that the therapist said I can’t fix, just manage but I tend to only be able to do it for a couple of weeks, then I have a two or three week burn out and then have to start again from scratch trying to get a routine back. (Though I suppose a two to three week burnout is better than the 2 years burn outs I tended to have before. >w< Small victories?)

Whilst I take care of the next installment of “A Mate Reject and a Gamma” I figure I’ll take a poll from the masses to see of actually Intersex Tobirama is a good idea for Useful Blades. Important; bold is addressing fanfiction in general as well.

Before you nuke me, here’s the thought process I had. Originally, what made me think about Useful Blades was what lengths Tobirama would go to be useful and obviously I wanted it to be MadaTobi so an arranged marriage would be the call to action and has been done effectively and beautifully (love this corner of the fandom, you guys are the best) but as a (mad) scientist and a bride growing up in the period, providing an heir would be one of those things he’d consider. I could go the drama route of him pushing Madara to girls or second wives (blergh) and I might end up using briefly but the scientist genius part struck me as “if Orochimaru could do it…..” and so on. But then I thought, seals and such are possible sure, scifi tube baby too (which would be hilarious with the idea of Izuna walking down to Tobirama’s science cellar and finding glass cases of infants and freaking tf out). Sexy no jutsu and Kage Bunshin’s lovechild could also be a possibility. But then I thought, what if it was his understanding of medical science that he twisted himself? Then I thought, what if he already innately had a set to work with.

Thus, I thought, if he was intersex in a time with poor understanding genetics as a whole and had XX chromosomes but appeared “incompletely” masculine Tobi would still be raised a man and identify as such. Infertility and difficulty of getting pregnant would be interesting concepts to explore in a person driven to provide an heir. Very angsty.

Of course there’s already plenty of angst to be found in his albinism and consequential hinderances to his health. It is also a personal headcanon the man has some degree of autism or something akin to it, the man has a neural divergence for sure. So it wouldn’t be necessary but it would be an interesting thought to follow.

Chimerism was considered too since it seems like a possibility with what happened with Itama’s hair. Albino and not? Genetics are weird enough but applying to anime is madness….

Intersex Tobirama hasn’t been explored much if at all outside of the strange pseudo intersex of omegverse mpreg which… is weirdly close to the idea of a “true hermaphrodite” and fetishization of it. Granted heats and bonds and such aren’t, ya know, an actual thing so it blurs the lines for most. Could get into a whole rant about it but no…

If I did make Tobirama intersex I’d be dancing a very precarious line. Lines. XX is sexually recognized as the female chromosome set. Intersex XX Tobirama/Cis XY Madara could read as a heterosexual if not futa sort of thing. Stepping vaguely on trans territory by nature, misconstrued as homophobia, and so forth. Intersex individuals are in the political crossfire at the moment, what with the US doing whatever it is they’re doing about gender affirming care. The last thing this group needs is a salt on wounds monkey show in the form of glorified dehumanizing porn.

That being said, Actually Intersex Tobirama could be problematic as it could be beneficial. Exposing people to accurate information in the form of storytelling is an amazing way for masses to learn. Intersex representation in modern media and art is negligible at best. However because it is a story it is bound to be unrealistic. I’m also not intersex myself so conjectures made by the information I have and just human empathy wouldn’t mean it would apply to everyone across the board. The human experience is a vast one and the intersex community is vast in itself. Experiences and cultures and times all so different…

So yeah, I could dive head first and try my best, or I could leave it. I don’t care for “political correctness” as a face thing, I care more for the people that can be validated and felt seen. Or likewise, hurt by it.

So I read the first half of 2ha in 2 days and my reaction went from

Damn the dynamic is so good I really love the teacher/student dynamic and imbalance in how the teacher is incredibly strong, also the hatred relationship lol esp in the ghost bride arc to 

Oh the ML has liked him all this time. Ok. Would you really love a kid romantically esp one so immature with no redeeming qualities I find that incredibly unrealistic to 

Bro the MC has liked his teacher all the time he just doesn’t recognise it ALSO he has fucked his teacher multiple times in the past that’s insane to

(The arcs start slowing down in quality after the teacher dies and they go thru a boring arc to get him back, a timeskip arc which is ok ig, and the most boring arc where they bring up the drama of an entirely different sect that I just have no interest in so idk what to put here)

So far the plot jumps from arc to arc with the style of ‘isolated problem appears, they fix it, move on to next problem’ without a very clear connection. For a while it felt fresh and new but after a while it gets stale. Maybe it has to do with the lack of descriptions of the fights, or how the resolution of the arcs most of the times end up being too quick and therefore unclear, from the Peach Blossom arc onwards. 

I knew a timeskip would occur from the very start bc age appropriate relationships bla bla but this one was really kinda flimsy if you think about it... I did like seeing the change of the MC though. Makes you think about how far he’s come and be proud at how much he’s changed. Also like how he reflects on his past years when he became mentally crazy and is shocked at the difference. 

I love the word play jokes a lot, but the Ji Ba joke especially made me laugh out loud for some time. Same for Jian Gui and Xia Si Ni. Wish they kept the MC’s sense of humour in the story but eh. Not everybody can be a Wei Wuxian 😔 Dude literally named his sword Sui Bian for the joke. 

I’m glad the author did decide to expand on the ML’s thoughts and feelings rather than keeping it onesided ‘show not tell’ situation though. It definitely helps tip the balance in favour of making me like the ship relationship. (Unlike the one in MDZS lmao who cares about that bland guy give me more Jiang Cheng). I like Xue Meng growing more and more to like Mo Ran (I just like the ‘brothers that dislike each other that repair their relationship over the years after much pain and suffering’ trope. Also Xue Meng is hilarious. 

As for Shi Mei, I legit felt bad for him bc 5 minutes after he was introduced I was hoping he wasn’t the ML because he was bland. I am Really Really hoping Shi Mei isn’t going to end up the yandere and possessive bad guy and will end up staying the nice and gentle cheerleader but so far I am already picking up bad signs. From the moment they mentioned the bad guy used water qi I knew Shi Mei was somehow going to be shafted as the bad guy so the Shi Mei/Mo Ran ship will die for sure instead of a first crush fading away kinda situation :’)

Is the story good? I guess. It was worth picking up to read. But if you asked me right now, if I would reread it again? No. 

Also, I have learnt not to read novelupdates reviews because they are full of people going ‘oH nOOO dOn’T rEAd tHiS MC iS a rapiSt das baaaad’ on literally every story, so what can I do now? And, can I say that 2ha’s full name of the husky and cat thing is very misleading and made me stay away from this book at first because I thought it was about a dog and cat that became humans? .....

Anyway I’m glad that Seven Seas is so far doing a good job of translating it and would def read Book 2 and until the teacher dies bc it’s not bad until then. Also the illustrations are pretty. Having to dig through multiple sources just to read the mess that is the unofficial translations is blergh. How did the fans even do it. How did they manage to put themselves through that torture. Why do shitty MTLs exist. Just. Why.

And one last question. If they can get an official translation for 2ha and MXTX books, SURELY they can get an official translation for Legend of Sun Knight. SURELY. 

But no one wants to read non-danmei books even though Legend of Sun Knight is superior to 2ha and MDZS in every way...

okay so having just finished watching episode 7 I can answer you sorta properly sooo okay I'mma just gonna premise the following:

I don't think the narrative means for you to be like... extremely realistic about targ incests in the sense that like the whole f&b/targs narrative is based on the concept that they marry within each other half of the time and the incest part is not considered BLERGH by them at least and this is within a frame where if you can read the text it's obvious the author is telling you HEY MARRYING YOUR BLOOD RELATIVES IS A THOROUGHLY SHIT IDEA because the more they do it the more they're unhinged/they obviously have issues™ and not even the ones that seem to not have them are safe anyway (AEGON V JFC YOU WERE SUCH A NICE KID WHYY) so like... you gotta buy the fact/roll with the fact that for them it's a normal alternative/an alternative they actually consider

also like obviously with the blanket premise that I think irl incest is always bad and I think I don't have to say that you're talking to someone who when it comes to the main series is absolutely not into any of the possible incest pairings canon or not, in f&b there's... a certain degree of difference like some of those targ incests (see: maegor/rhaena) are blatantly written as abusive/horrid/forced/etc while others (not going into jaehaerys/alysanne which I mean... you gotta take it the way you do, but baelon/alyssa ie daemon/viserys's parents are described as mutually in love/having grown to love each other and after she dies he doesn't go with anyone else/kicks his other sister who wanted to seduce him out of the room like... IDEK THEY HAVE ISSUES LIKE THAT) so like tldr idt that you can just write off the whole of them as 'it's incest so it's bad™ WITHIN THE NARRATIVE' bc said narrative is telling you some are shit some are not but as a whole it's a pretty crappy idea and they only do that because they think they're demigods and idt you can have a discussion on any targ incest without that context. also f&b is written like a roman history chronicle which means that everything is out of control everyone is drama™ and relatives backstab each other all the time and everyone is problematic™ so there's that too;

neither daemon nor rhaenyra are cracking my top five f&b characters (everyone in f&b that'd make top ten sadly was before the dance of dragons so rip me unless they do the prequel of the prequel) and while as a general thing when it comes to book stuff I think she was in the right wrt her succession and he was entertaining until he did one thing that made me go OKAY I CAN DIG YOU NOW which I'm not spoiling for anyone who might not wanna know, but like I'm not particularly invested in either of them nor into their romance like... it was obvious they were gonna be a thing from the get-go and since at that point I was rolling with the targcest punches I just went and took it as a granted thing.

now having said that... neither? In the sense:

I don't think it's particularly disgusting within the above frame it's... okay she's his niece but then again dany is jon's aunt and that shit's gonna happen in asoiaf too at some point so okay yeah it's made a lot better by the fact that jondany didn't know each other/didn't grow up with each other blah blah blah but as we saw them first in a context where she was already sixteen and put him in his place in episode two the moment he stepped out I think the narrative wants you to see them as more or less equals in that sense so... like if someone is objecting to the incest at large okay I get the objection but as stated imvho targcest is to be taken like ^^^ so honestly I'm not particularly put off

I also don't think it's the hottest thing in existence because as stated none of them is my favorite character in f&b or in the show itself anyway and like... I mean as stated in other occasions I've occasionally shipped sibling incest stuff in my long fandom career if the two people in question had a dynamic that appealed to me outside of that factor and then if it happened they were sibling-related I went with it but it's not the type of badwrong I'm interested in for the sake of it so like I don't find it hot because of the badwrong and their dynamic in itself isn't exactly something that makes me go !!!! in itself like they're both off the rails and they're both kinda made for each other in that sense and btw it gets worse as the whole thing goes on like rhaenyra is an a+ character but at the end of it their morals are equally not great (no book spoilers more than I already have but like she done fucked up too XD) but like... ngl daemon/viserys's parents were a lot more my thing as a ship than daemon and rhaenyra could ever be so it's not the targcest whose hill I'd die on let's put it like that

but I also think the show is doing a decent job with them? like I think the narrative framed it really well and the pacing was good and the way they're building it up really bodes well for how they're gonna drive the full-on war narrative later so like tldr I think that the show is adapting them well/not making the source material a disservice COUGH DIFFERENTLY FROM WHAT GOT DID SINCE SEASON 3 AT LEAST WHEN IT CAME TO LITERALLY ANY ROMANTIC COUPLE EVER COUGH but I'm not gonna go actively shipping it/being invested 100% in it nor I'm gonna go EWWWW THIS IS DISGUSTING bc as stated idt the latter is correct but it's also not the general dynamic I'm invested in so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also like I think the actors are selling it pretty well regardless of the fact that I'm not 100% sold on matt smith's approach but it grew on me in the last few episodes and if other people like it then it means he's not doing bad so like I can see why ppl would be into it because they do have chemistry and they're acting the shit out of it in both pre and post timeskip so there's that too but yeah tldr you're not gonna find me running a ship blog for them anytime soon but I'm not gonna go anti on their ass at any point ever, just... I don't get people discoursing about it because it was pretty much obvious from the get-go and almost everyone involved in the diatribe is a problematic™ person and they're gonna turn into murder™ power couple in like... well idk how far they're getting with this season but if viserys dies at the end of it then next season it's the darkest shit you'll ever see so I don't think the incest is gonna be what people are gonna be up in arms about honestly X°D

Today's Focus

04.24.24 - Blergh. It's cold and wet and rainy again today, so my ootd is meant for warmth and comfort more than cuteness. I know I don't have to suffer through a lot more of this weather but I am ready for sun and warm and nice. It was pretty gorgeous yesterday.

Work - It's been dead for a while so left nothing for myself to do and have nothing waiting for me; unless I get asked to do something I'm once again on my own.

Background Noise - I am working my regular remote day today, so technically the background noise will be my DVR. I have plenty to watch on YT but Wednesdays are a bad day for that.

25 videos got watched yesterday, and I'm pretty pleased I managed to finish off a couple of saved groups of videos that have been hanging around a while.

Study - Wednesday is visual study day, which means I don't try to read as a multitask to what else I'm listening to. I also try to focus more on documentary-type videos rather than commentary or lists; to this end, I have the most recent episode of American Experience to watch, focusing on the Love Canal disaster, which happens to be local to me.

I don't think I did exactly as much reading as last week, but I did do a lot: five random articles, a couple on the Horizon/Post Office scandal, an article from an old economics journal called What are Profits?, four of Van Gogh's letters, four 'good news' articles', three other articles from about 20 years ago, including Barbara Ehrinreich's Welcome to Cancerland, and an article from the NIH on anti-transgender legislation and health outcomes.

Extras - I have to clean the catbox and vacuum the carpets; I want to clean my front door as my extra chore today. Takeout day, which is good because after work I'm voting in the special election to replace the congressperson that just stepped down earlier in the year. Planning three episodes of Carranger tonight, plus an episode I have on the DVR of Krapopolis; Freakazoid will be after my self-care, during which I have a podcase (A Killing on the Cape) that I'm listening to right now. Mini-essay is almost done; I have a least one essay to draft, and one to edit and post, plus I have to boot up my ancient ass laptop to do some digital transfers.

Do you think Tim in Rebirth was portrayed too differently than how he was pre-flashpoint and came across as too teen geniusy?

I think I read comics a little differently to others in that - if there is continuity, great, grand, lots of depth and mirroring and decades of building up of characterisation and such what - but at the same time I really don't mind reading a comic where the the characterisation doesn't match up with prior depictions. So long as it's internally consistent and aids in telling the (good) story the author wanted to tell, I'm not that precious about character traits that I think should or ought to be innate. Obviously there are certain things where I'm like... no wait that's actually important, but otherwise, nah. Go to town.

So Tim being a smart alec to the point where barely an issue goes by without him mentioning his dumb wrist computer and hacking? Okay, yeah. Bit annoying that, mostly because it's a lazy way to get him out of tight situations. Like how did he hack into Mr Oz's computer again? Just because he's sooooo smart. Blergh.

But! I think he's a great blending of pre-Flashpoint and New 52 Tim, and it's what they do with that overbearing intelligence which I think is interesting.

But Abbie! You cry, New 52 Tim is literally irredeemably bad!

I want to compare New 52 Tim to Rebirth whilst keeping everything he went through pre-Flashpoint in your head.

New 52 Tim is odd because he is literally not Tim. He has different motivations, different attitudes to his family (biological and otherwise) and honestly there is an interesting character in there, but they never acknowledged how legitimately awful of a person he was and could be. He only ends up becoming Robin (not Robin) by throwing his parents under the bus and seemingly feels no remorse for it because he gets the chance to work with Batman only he seems to have nothing but disdain for Bruce and spents most of his shared panel time with him calling Bruce a piece of shit and to back off.

New 52 Tim is cold. And Bruce let's Tim get away with it; and it could be because he finds Tim just unnerving or he feels guilty or... he just doesn't care about Tim. Something happened between the two in this timeline where when Tim goes off to form the Titans, Bruce just completely wipes his hands of him and only calls him back to Gotham for face events or for the crossovers. Coupled with the fact that Tim is apparently closest to Jason (so dumb) about feeling like black sheep outsiders... Like it's just so wrong for Tim? But also who is this boy like he's so weird there's so much unspoken horridness festering beneath the surface I don't think it was intentional but this Tim of all Tims is certainly the Supervillain in the making. Bruce takes Tim in during the New 52 and its not out of any compassionate means or ends really. Tim very aggressively shoves his presence in, cocks up, and forces Bruce's hand to clean up the mess.

He has no concept of privacy he wants to be as disconnected from Bruce as possible finding out who Batman is was treated like a game by him he is indifferent at most to the concept of death and on and on...

One also gets the impression that he is terribly, terribly lonely.

What a horrid little boy he is where does this character development come from????

So come Rebirth, where we're told that pre-Flashpoint is coming back, we just don't know how, and Tim has finally 'come home' to the Bat Editorial team after being in the Titans one for years, it then becomes a question how much is Tim going to be Tim. If that makes sense.

So! Motivation wise, where is Rebirth Tim at?

So I sort of think, for every 'kid genius' comment, there's something about him feeling he had to step in because no-one else could, about how he absolutely does not want to stick around.

And I (personally) think Tynion does a really cool thing with this which is he really plays into Tim's fears for the future. He fears for Bruce's wellbeing, he fears for his own, he fears for Gotham. It's one hundred percent motivated by love though.

And its exploited ruthlessly. Very Star Wars of them.

There's this great push and pull which I love between the neurosis and fear and love that Rebirth Tim has for Bruce and Gotham and his family and Steph etc etc. Where he's managed to convince himself that he's the smartest guy in the room, he's the only one who can see the big picture, and he's the only one who can fix it as a result. And it terrifies him.

Now, tell me those aspects don't ring true for pre-Flashpoint Tim? Especially Red Robin era? But of course, all that trauma hasn't happened to this Tim, so it's this weird merge of New 52 and Pre-Flashpoint and yet it works?? At least, it does for me.

The teen genuis comments are a little heavy handed, but they serve a purpose. This kid is confident in one thing, which is his noggin. He's insecure about his place in the family, he's frightened of being alone, he does not want to be a vigilante long term but has no clue how to back out and soon it just isn't a viable option for him anymore...

Of course, we've still got the lingering New 52 Tim there. The arrogance is posturing, the poor social skills, the sharper relationship with Bruce... God there's this one panel where Tim looks positively hateful at Bruce and I love it. It didn't really go anywhere because Tim's fright over the future Ulysses showed him won out but uh

Tim? Arguing with his dad? Thinking he knows best? A sense of entitlement and lashing out? Seen that before?

Rebirth Tim is consistent with what he was pre-Flashpoint. The journey is different, but it's the same boy. The incessant references to hacking don't change that I think.

"Hey lover boy, what—"

"Oh Jesus Christ, Barnes!" Steve exclaimed, startled. Bucky laughed and clapped him on the back once. "What are you doing here, are you spying?" he teased his best friend, peeking past him to look into the room outside which he found Steve standing. Y/N was inside the room, talking to a guy while holding a bouquet of flowers in her hands.

"Y/N?! Your own girlfriend, Rogers?" Bucky admonished harshly in a whisper, pulling Steve away from the door. "It's not— I trust her completely, honest! It's the guy she's talking to, Manny. I swear to God he's trying to steal her from me—"

"Nobody is stealing me, Rogers, Manny's just a friend! No ulterior motives, he has already promised like a thousand times," Steve heard behind him and whirled around to see Y/N standing there with a smirk, an eyebrow raised. "You taking snooping lessons from Barnes now?" he muttered, "I know babe, I just—"

"Just nothing, Stevie, be happy! It's my birthday!" she laughed and gave him a tight hug, burrowing into his arms. To be honest, Y/N knew about Manny's intentions and Steve was right to worry; he flirted with her all the time, even when she insisted she was dating the ex-Captain America. But she knew better than to worry Steve.

He soothingly rubbed her back, swatting Bucky's hand away when he tried to run his fingers through her hair. "Stop it, that's my girlfriend," he pouted and both Bucky and Y/N burst out laughing. "She's like a sister; jeez, Rogers, tone it down a little bit," Bucky sighed and waved at the couple, walking away.

Steve and Y/N decided to go back to their room. They had been in a relationship for around 4 years now, and they weren't planning on stopping, ever. The only time Y/N would become Steve's ex-girlfriend was when she became his wife. Which he hoped she'd become soon, since he had a special birthday planned for her.

First, he was going to take her to a hair salon, then a manicure and pedicure, and finally, a picnic under the stars. There, he was finally going to pop the question: Y/N, will you marry me? After his retirement, that was all he wanted. A stable life; a wife, kids, maybe some pets. He was even ready to be a trophy husband, as Y/N was still in the Avengers Initiative.

"Steve? Steve!" He snapped out of his thoughts and gave Y/N a sheepish smile. "Sorry, pumpkin, lost in thoughts. So, uh, the flowers look nice," he stammered, looking everywhere but at the flowers which Y/N was putting in a vase. "Oh hush Rogers, you don't have to pretend to like them for me, I get it. I was just like that with you, you know?"

It was true, in the beginning of their relationship Y/N was what Steve was now. Jealous, overprotective, obsessed… somewhere along the line the roles were reversed. "I know, honey, I'm sorry… they're a birthday gift, I should be happy for you." He walked towards her and wrapped his arms around her from behind, pressing a kiss to her neck.

"It's fine. So, I've received everyone's gift but yours, where is it?" she grinned coyly, reaching up to cup his cheek. Steve smirked against her skin and spun her around, bringing them back chest to chest. "In my pants," he whispered seductively. A few seconds passed and both of them burst out laughing.

"I swear to God, Stevie, if that's your only gift I'm gonna be really disappointed." Steve pouted and leaned forward to give her a sweet kiss. "First of all, ouch," he began, "And second, no that's not the only gift. I have a really fun day planned for us, you up for it?" Y/N's eyes lit up and she nodded eagerly, jumping into his arms. "Aw, Steve, I love you so much!"

"I love you too, princess. Now for the first gift—"

"Ste— oh…"

"I. Look. Freaking. Amazing!"

Steve smiled softly as Y/N admired herself in the mirror. They had just returned from the mani-pedi session, and Y/N was feeling the most refreshed she had in years. She had also gotten a fantastic new hairstyle, complete with a different hair colour. Y/N was feeling like a new person, all thanks to Steve. She turned to him with a huge smile.

"Words cannot express how much I love you," she began, giving him a tight hug, "But numbers can. 1 million out of 10!" Steve laughed at her excitement, gently playing with her hair as he held her close. "But the best part awaits: the picnic! We still have a few hours to go, maybe I can go some for training?"

"Sure, and I'm going to take some pictures and post them to all my social media sites! Oh my God, this is fantastic—" Steve laughed at Y/N's squeals and left the room, feeling giddier and happier than he was in the morning. You see, Steve was kind of nervous the whole day. First, it was because of Manny, second, he was worried she wouldn't like his gifts and third, will she say yes?

Two out of the three concerns were gone. It was the pesky last one that ran through his mind the whole time he was in the gym. After an hour, Steve decided to go back to their room to relax for a while under the Air Conditioner; he didn't want to be a smelly, sweaty mess on the most important night of his life.

As he was walking towards their room, though, Steve happened to bump into Y/N. And… Manny. Manny took one step forward, Y/N took a step back. One step forward, one step back as Y/N held her hands out in front of her, protecting herself. Without even bothering to know the full story, Steve rushed over and punched Manny straight on the nose.

He fell back with a groan as Y/N gasped, covering her mouth. "That's my fiancée, you fucking asshole! Have some respect for other people's relationships, she said no, no means no!" he yelled, so loud that a few others came over to check on them. Bucky, Sam, Peter, Tony, Wanda, Vision, Bruce and Natasha, all stood a few feet away, watching with wide eyes.

Y/N's head snapped towards Steve when he called her his fiancée. "Your… your what?" she whispered, and Steve finally realized what he had blurted out. Shit. "I… I was going to ask you tonight at the picnic— it was supposed to be romantic, damn it Manny, you ruined—" His speech was cut short as Y/N immediately took him in her arms, kissing him deeply.

"Yes, Steve, I will marry you," she mumbled with a small, teary smile that Steve mimicked as he brought her in for another kiss. They only stopped when they heard the massive applause coming from the others. "Congratulations, you guys, this is brilliant news! Who's the best man?" Sam hollered.

Steve hugged Y/N closer, wiping his tears off with a chuckle. "Well, I was thinking—"

"I'll be honored," Sam grinned, scowling when Bucky smacked him across the head. "He was going to ask me," Bucky sneered and Steve rolled his eyes. "If you keep bickering like that, I'll ask Bruce," he snarked and Bruce laughed as both Bucky and Sam quieted instantly. "Where's the fucking ring, Rogers, there's no proposal without a ring!"

"The ring is in the bedroom, I was training and that's no place for a precious jewel," Steve answered and Y/N smiled into his arms, burrowing her face further into his chest.

"Yes, the hair salon was great. The mani and pedi— not that Manny, Steve— was also great. But this, by far, was the best birthday present I got today," she whispered to him. "What about the sex? Am I becoming an old man now—" Y/N pushed Steve with a disgusted look on her face as everyone else gagged and groaned. "Rogers, it was a sweet moment!"

"Sorry, sorry, couldn't help myself, it just came— there it is again!"

"Blergh, fuck you, man!"

"I deserved it."
