Give me “normal” queer people too. Give me a trans businessman who only really listens to mainstream music. Give me a pan student who’s focusing on her studies over romance, not because of a heartbreak but just because she’s studious. Give me an aromantic person who goes on morning walks because they want to be healthier.
Also give me old queer people. Not all queer people are youngsters- I want stories that have lesbian grandaunts or nonbinary tenure teachers or wise old men who happen to have a husband, not a wife.
And give me diverse queer people. POC asexuals, two-spirit people and māhū and the other cultures’ nonbinary gender experiences, disabled bi people, or other queer people who aren’t just young, white, abled, and attractive.
We want representation based in reality, not in stereotypes. Stereotypes can be fun, but so can the beautiful tapestry of ways people can be different and still fundamentally be people. I’d argue that real queer people are far more interesting than whatever typical fictional representation has got going on.
give me ace characters who are unabashedly sexy and flirtatious.
give me aro characters who are emotional and clingy.
give me bi characters who can't even make eye contact with anyone, let alone flirt with them.
give me pan characters who are deadpan (haha get it) and have black cat energy.
give me non-binary characters who dress completely femme or masc, who don't “look non-binary”.
give me trans characters who don't completely pass as their gender but are still respected and not the butt of a joke.
fuck the stereotypes, give me more variety in queer representation.
#i know some people do fit stereotypes#but they already have fictional characters like them#what about the genderfluid cane user who has cystic acne#or the 42 year old demisexual man who is overweight and has hearing loss#or the nonbinary person with POTS#those three descriptions are people I know and love#they are so much more interesting than if they just had one ‘thing’#one token trait#because people rarely have one schtick
