Fae adjacent! Danny, pt. 3
Jason returns to consciousness with a scream trapped before it could come to life. He twisted his neck back and forth and back and forth.
It was the last thing he did before he died. When the Joker left and told him to say hello to the big guy, Jason could not muster up the energy to make a single sound.
But Bruce… Bruce was here this time, heavy head making the mattress by his leg dip.
The scars that ran over his face stretched as he blinked.
“…B?”
Bruce’s head shot up, eyes bloodshot and bags heavier than a Gotham socialite’s solid gold Dior purse.
“Jaylad.”
Jason- Jason was alive now. Bruce’s hug felt warm, the tear spot on his shoulder was damp as his dad cried while hugging him.
And Jason should be happy. He’s alive again. His dad loved him.
But all he could think about was the cold of the coffin, the squelch of mud and dirt, and the unerringly wrong feeling of knowing he came back but he came back wrong.
——
Tim had wandered Gotham in the weeks following Jason’s reawakening. He wasn’t avoiding Bruce Wayne. He wasn’t. But Tim knows he’ll have to answer questions soon. He just wasn’t ready.
Tim looked up at the den of pixies- pixies were real!- and squared his shoulders. He did his research. Tim Drake walks into the den with nothing but foolish hope and Gotham-brand audacity. He’ll get answers about Danny today. He will.
——
Soul-Plucker, they called him. Danny Fenton, the proprietor of Fenton Artifacts. The High King.
“I thought King Oberon was the High King?”
The pixies chittered at the little human that could have been kin. Their wings fluttered at their backs, muffled by cloth. It’s not often they find kindred. It really is too bad that Fenton had his mark on the child. How they would have loved to whisk him away. He would have made entertainment that would last a millennia! Or until the court decided to cut of his tongue, at least. How well he had tricked them!
“Of course! Of course! King Oberon is our king, see?” A younger pixie swirled her drink, a shining red and blue thing. “But he’s the High King of another court!”
“The High King of the Infinite Realms, encompassing far more than King Oberon and Queen Tatianna could ever reach.”
Another pixie chimed in, on their fourth glass of amber colored nectar. “The Soul-Plucker!”
“The Beginning of the End.”
“Afterlife IRS department!”
“He who wanders.”
“Death-Caller.” Another one said, grave and serious.
“The Arbiter.”
“So, he’s like, the boss of bosses?” Tim asked. What kind of entity did he make a deal with? Why was he kind to Tim? What motives did Danny have?
“Uh huh!”
“Then what’s he’s doing here?”
“Who knows? The whims of the most powerful are unknown to us.” The pixies clustered around Tim. “Won’t you play another game with us, Alvin? You’re so good at it! Oh, how about a drink?”
“Can’t. I gotta get home. Also, I’m a minor.” Tim slipped passed their fluttering wings and manic smiles. They move to let him past, waving drinks at him in a tantalizing manner.
“And where is that, sweet one?”
“Somewhere, Liltri. Somewhere.”
Tim Drake was a child of pure will, pure hard headed foolishness, a mind sharper than any blade, and luck more terrifying than the creatures he now dealt with. And so, he stepped out of the Pixie Bar with more questions than answers but he stepped out unharmed.
——
“Who are you?” The shadows shift as Lady Gotham unveiled her knight.
Danny felt his eyes cool, glinting green and blue. Lady Gotham forgets who her liege is.
“Haven’t you done your research? You who walks along the edge of shadows, my shop is not a place to dismiss decorum.”
“You brought… you brought him back. How. Why?”
“You want answers? Then give me something in return.”
Danny gestured to the circle his clients have come to know as the deal-maker. Danny doesn’t ask for much in return. Just… something equal to the request.
“Ah,” Danny pointed up at the sign. “I am legally able to deny you my service, so don’t get any ideas.”
Batman was studied up on myths. But he was not a believer, and that both hindered and helped him. What was a god, in front of the faithless? What was the faithless in front of power?
The vigilante stepped into the circle, unable to see the subtle shimmering of magic but remained unbound by the virtue of his disbelief.
“What do you want for answers?”
“You do not often deal with the occult, do you?” Danny tapped the counter. Batman remained silent.
“I have a soft spot for vigilantes,” Danny continued. “And so I won’t ask for much. Just… your cape.”
“Not my hair? A body part?”
“If you were dealing with the fae, you’d probably would lose something of that value, yes.”
“You aren’t fae.”
Danny merely smiled. “Do we have a deal?”
“My cape in exchange for honest answers to my questions.”
Danny huffed, approval glinting in his eyes.
“Your cape for honest answers to three questions,” Danny pointed at the sign, still hanging above them. “Three questions or nothing.”
Batman grimaced. “Deal.”
“Ask your questions, protector.”
“Why did you bring Jason back to life?”
“I didn’t.” Danny grinned. The Bat should have stipulated that he must answer elaborately. He looked like he realized that. Oh well. His mistake. Well, not like there was actual magic binding Danny, so technically, Danny could lie off his ass.
“…Will Jason stay alive?” Danny had a heart and this man was a much better father than Jack ever was.
“Yes. Barring unnatural causes, his soul is firmly attached to his body and will not shuffle off the mortal coil without warning.”
The lines of Batman’s shoulders slumped. Relief. He paused.
“What are your intentions in this city?”
“To run my shop… and to enjoy retirement.”
Danny laughed at Batman’s stoic face. “Disappointed I am not up to nefarious deeds, little knight?”
“No.”
Danny tapped the table. “My payment?”
Batman shucked off his cape and handed it to Danny.
“Why my cape?”
Danny smiled a fanged little thing. “Because your costume looks stupid without it and I could use a laugh.”
Batman grumbled and turned to leave. Ha paused, eyes catching on the glint of camera lenses.
“How much for that?”
“For the little sparrow’s camera?” Danny sighed, eyes fixed on the form of a vigilante who was more kind than angry for once. “Two thousand dollars.”
“That’s a huge markup.”
“That’s how much it means to me, compared to the rest.” Danny slid beyond the counter, a ghostly air about him. He pinned his newly earned cape up. “My shop, my prices, little knight.”
Batman silently handed him two thousand dollars and left with the little sparrow’s camera.

“ is it getting bad again? ” / Vortigern :>
For the heavy hearted.
It is Vortigern's back that is turned towards Merlin, Vortigern's hands that are gripping his own arms in some sort of bizarre embrace, only to let go with a sudden tremor. Yet, when he turns to look at Merlin, it is brown and pink hair framing kind features and healthy skin, and it's Oberon meeting his gaze.
"No no, see how it is?" he tut-tuts at Merlin, an index finger wiggling in the air between them in disproval, "It is been a while since we last spoke. Take a seat and listen for a while. It is my turn now. I said sit down."
The smile never stutters but the inflection of his voice leaves no place no arguments. Oberon himself takes no seat, leaning his back against the wall behind him and crossing his arms over his chest, hands gripping his biceps in a similar way Vortigern had been doing moments ago. His eyes flutter shut, bushy lashes brushing pinkish cheekbones, a gentle smile to his lips. Yet, there's a certain air and feeling to the room, a finality to the tone of his voice as he continues to speak.
"I've known you before the first flower flourished at your feet. I've known him before the first fruit rotted in his hands. I've known you both since the first light and the last shadow. I was there when your two gazes crossed for first time, I was there when you turned your back. I was there when the sword was pulled from the stone, and I was there when the lance pierced him and you watched the light leave his eyes. I was always there. Vortigern Pendragon hasn't always been me, but I have always been Vortigern Pendragon. Human notions like time, space, and reality mean nothing to a Great Parent."
Great parents, the greatest classification of faeries. Just as Caster, once called Arturia, just as Morgan, once called Vivian. Born directly from the inner sea with a purpose greater than themselves. For Morgan it was to save Britain, which she was shunned by the planet for abandoning and naming herself Morgan, demoted to a shadow of what she once was as the Inner Sea created a new daughter, Arturia, later named Caster, with the same purpose.
Oberon's purpose, however, was way more obscure, shrouded in darkness and light in equal measure.
"I was always there, through everything, not only you and him. I saw, and did. Was it good fortune, that your child never found wild beasts whenever he ventured alone into the woods? Was it cheer luck, that when terribly hungry and gorging on berries, he never found himself poisoned? Was it coincidence, that when lost at night the fireflies would light the way out for him?"
"Dragons are my children too. The ones like him, shining so bright, could never pass my attention. So I aided him, little as I could, shackled to Avalon and conditioned to Vortigern's Pendragon very existence as I was. I did everything I could to aid, to ease his journey. To see him reach the end, and his dream. It was for naught. I asked you— I commanded you to protect Caster, to protect my— Vortigern's— our daughter, so that she would not end up like your King. She did. You failed. Such as you failed Arthur Pendragon as well."
He gives him a snide smile, and there's something different about it now, something closer to Vortigern's cruelty than Oberon's kindness. Suddenly, the air seems too cold, the shadows of Oberon's face too deep and pronounced, making his face more similar to the one he last sported right at the end of the British Lostbelt. And when he speaks his mouth to speak, there are insects writhing under his tongue and clinging at his throat, and Avalon shifts.
"I break the pact, accepting of any punishment that befalls me. I reject you. Begone. Avalon has no place for sin. Thou art more human than fairy, and humans are not of my kin. Vivian, Caster. They are both gone. I am the first Great Father who frees you, I am the last Great Mother who shuns you. Cambion you remain, but never to curse our home again. Thou shalt wander the earth along humanity for all eternity, until you and them have redeemed themselves from their sins, until every drop of water has given pass to grains of sand and until every light has dimmed on the night sky. Repent. The Fae King Oberon Vortigern curses you so."

Can you write more informations about forest elves?
Sure! I assume you mean the Faefaras? There is a lot I can say about them.
They all originate from the Arcadian Forest. The Arcanist religion (Arcanism) was developed by their earliest tribes, and still remains the most popular religion in that region. Elves with dominant Faefaras ancestry seem to naturally excel at curative (healing) magic.
They are the most prominent elven race in Mogdir Kingdom, with most of the local elves claiming Faefaras ancestry. Many aspects of modern Mogdiri culture actually originate from the Faefaras tribes.
The Faefaras have a bit of a sour reputation, depending on who you ask. They are stereotyped as racists and xenophobes who don't like other elves, especially the Damijan and Tanyel, who frequently immigrate to the Arcadian Forest.
But where did this reputation come from? Well, the Faefaras have always held a lot of power in the Arcadian Forest since their early beginnings. They shared their region with the Dalor fauns, Gilgene sirenes, and Archtop satyrs. Their only "competition" was the Dalor, as the Gilgene stayed near water and the Archtop were nomadic. This allowed the Faefaras to grow their civilization relatively undisturbed for a long time.
The Faefaras had some periods of war with the Dalor during this time, mostly skirmishing over resources and land. But when they heard what was happening to the Boanningwad elves in the west, these two civilizations decided to put aside their differences and join forces to defend the Arcadian Forest from the growing Zareen Empire. This is how Mogdir Kingdom was born.
The Dalor did kind of get shafted in this alliance. They were quickly resigned to second-class citizens while the Faefaras enjoyed their power at the top of Mogdiri society, and this is where they still sit today. (Now you can understand why Oberon winning the election is considered a huge deal!)
Anyway, Mogdir Kingdom is run by may powerful crime-families with Faefaras ancestry, and there is a lot of nepotism going on. Historically, the leadership has always told its Faefaras citizens that the Arcadian Forest belongs to them by birthright, the Damijani are Zareenite spies, the Tanyel are stealing their jobs, and commoners are destroying their culture. Faefaras elves have always been quite insular for this reason, believing that everyone is out to get them.
That said, the Faefaras are also responsible for great advancements in the world of magic. Their ancestors believed that magic and nature are intertwined, so they revered both. These beliefs carried forward into modern Mogdiri culture, which places a heavy emphasis on protecting the environment.
Today, descendants of the Faefaras can be found all over the world, living many walks of life. Not all of them enjoy the privilege of their Mogdiri kin. Some, like Habrene, slave away in foreign chains.
Most of the world's Faefaras population is concentrated in Modir Kingdom, but the Seelie and Unseelie Courts have large communities of them as well. Matuzu Kingdom has some entire neighborhoods populated by Faefaras descendants who brought their culture with them. These neighborhoods are easy to spot because of the unique "living wood" architecture, abundant gardens, and clothing that looks like flowers.
The global stereotype of "snotty elves" actually comes from the stereotype of Faefaras specifically. Even among other elves, they are stereotyped as snotty, entitled, and whiny.
Of course not every Faefaras is like this, but the stereotypes do come from somewhere, and that somewhere is in the history books.
That's all I can think of at the moment!

✢⁎. universal collapse
You have turned your back on justice and joined the Dragon and his coterie of imposters… or so he thinks. A threatening “offer you can’t refuse” becomes the opportunity of a lifetime when he bribes you for information and cooperation, opening up a chance for you to feed false information and get some insight into how the group operates. That said, the enigmatic “Al” is said to be an intelligent and calculating man in his own right. Be warned, this may be one of his traps… [Grants Any Weapon +1]
“...And that’s when the great hero emerged, his flaming aura full of ice and fury! With one mighty swipe of his blade--SWOOSH!--the Fell Dragon was, er, felled... And the gleaming crown of unending glory forever stood atop his divine head!”
A pair of mobsters blink. This is evidently a little more than they bargained for.
When they had heard, through heaven’s hell-sent gift, that a pair of faculty members at Garreg Mach intended to defect to their side, they were overjoyed. The prospect of new allies--new fakes--to expand their reach over the continent through its most prominent figurehead was one too good to be true. And that’s because it isn’t. Owain, under his professorial name Oberon Dark, has come to the agreed meeting point (a spot just beyond Arianrhod’s great wall) with one simple task: muddle their minds. His tongue peddles deception like no other, spinning its fancied fables with the kind of flair that only a fool would believe.
But, he was assured, this is indeed a foolish ring--if they believe they can truly slip under the church’s watchful eye.
With only the moon, two accomplices, and winged Elincia as his witness, he finishes his tale with a grand gesture of his arms. The men... do not look impressed by it. In fact, between scrunched brows and squinted eyes, one clears his throat to challenge the Dark’s ruse. “That’s all well and good,” he heaves, and evidently he does not believe a word of it, “But uh, who were we talkin’ about again? Some Ylissean noble...?”
“I- hey!” shouts Owain, offense coloring the wide-gaping frown on his face, “Weren’t you listening? These are the adventurous exploits of the exalted Owain, Falchion’s next of kin and cousin of Lucina Lowell! Have you... Really not heard of him? There was a book written about him and everything...”
One gloved hand finds the back of his ruffled hair to sheepishly scratch. Geez, what’s the deal with these guys? The professor was sure they’d at least remember the name. But each of their pensive stares speaks loud and clear: they don’t.
Figuring there’s not much use bashing his head on this rock, he coughs into his other hand and motions at Elincia. She would be key to getting his point across--to heralding him as the scion of legend he truly is!
“Well, it just so happens my esteemed colleague is his number one fan!” he stops to swallow a lump in his throat, batting his eyes in a way that tells the Crimean to simply roll with it, “Y-yes, she’s um, president of his fan club! Go on, o feathered one, tell these two of all the heroic feats I-er, Mister Owain, has dedicated his life to!”

The Fairyland
Ao3 link here The Fairyland - Chapter 32 - Princessmh9 - Multifandom [Archive of Our Own]
Chapter 32: Tides of Alliance
{As the sunlight streamed down on Genevieve and Shadow, the heat mingled with the magic creating a sense of excitement that can't be explained. The lush forests were becoming less and less as the terrain transformed into sandy hills and dunes and scrub that can survive the harsh coastal life. Shadow snorts in excitement as the fresh sea breeze air fills his nostrils and sends his hooves dancing as he steps proudly forward. Genevieve smiles at this as she lets him dance. There was magic in the sea breeze. Not the magic she knows but a different kind of magic, the magic of the sea, the magic of the merfolk. As she and Shadow arrive at the top of a dune she looks down and gasp. The ocean was the bluest of blue you could imagine, and the sand was a blinding white. The rock pools were of the smoothest rocks. And sitting on them was the merfolk. Their tails were of vibrant colors and glistened in the sun as their long hair flowed in the breeze as they combed it and laughed and singed. Genevieve spent a few moments taking it all in when they noticed her and one of them a merman picked up a shell and started to blow it. Shortly other merfolk started to appear and watch Genevieve.}
{Genevieve} I think that's our cue to go down and meet them boy. What you think?
{Shadow snorts at this as he rears up neighing as he then dashes down the dune, sand kicking up from his hooves as he gallops down the dune and races across the beach, the excitement growing stronger and stronger as he gets nearer to the ocean. As they reach the edge of the beach Shadow slows down to a trot then a walk as Genevieve slows him to a stop.}
{Genevieve} Whoo boy. Easy there.
{She then leaned down and got off Shadow as walks into the water a little way as the merfolk swam up to her. One of the merfolk, the same merman who had blown the shell, swam forward to greet her. His hair floated around him like a silky cloud, and his eyes sparkled with a mischievous light.}
{Merman} Welcome, land-dweller. We sense the magic in your presence. What brings you to our domain?
{Genevieve} Greetings I am Genevieve the granddaughter of Merlin and this is Shadow my faithful companion. We been sent by King Oberon and Queen and Titania to get the sword Excalibur from your kingdom.
{Merman} Argh yes. We been expecting you, Genevieve. Welcome kin of Merlin. If you follow us, we will lead you to our kingdom.
{Genevieve} Thankyou but what about Shadow?
{Mermaid} He be quite safe here we can promise you that. The sea Unicorns and horses will come in from the waves and keep him company. I promise no harm will come to him.
{Genevieve smiles at this reassurance as she walks over to Shadow}
{Genevieve} Now you behave boy and no getting into trouble ok boy? {She says as she takes his bridle and saddle off him and puts them on the ground. Shadow neighs in delight and then starts to gallop off down the beach kicking up his hooves as he neighs loud and clear and gallops as hard as he can. Genevieve burst into laughter watching him. He turns around and comes flying past her in speed only capable of a thoroughbred. He then rears up neighs and then lays down and starts to roll in the sand as a huge wave starts to crash into the shore and from it the sea Unicorns and horses gallop forth. Shadow seeing this gets up and races to them eager to join them. As Shadow approached the sea Unicorns and horses, they greeted him with gentle nuzzles and whinnies of welcome. They formed a circle around him, their majestic presence both comforting and awe-inspiring. Shadow, feeling the kinship among these magical creatures, joined them in their playful gallops along the shore.
Genevieve smiled knowing Shadow was safe she walked over to the merfolk.}
{Genevieve} I am ready.
{She then touch's her necklace as she thought about being a mermaid and it glowed brightly as she closes her eyes and felt her legs fuse together as a tale appears. She leaps up with the help of the magic and dives into the crystal blue water. She opens her eyes and gasp in delight at what she saw. Under the shimmering waves, Genevieve's transformed body gracefully glided through the clear waters. Her newly formed mermaid tail shimmered with hues of turquoise and silver, reflecting the sunlight that penetrated the ocean's depths. Schools of colorful fish swam around her, creating a vibrant tapestry of life and movement.
Genevieve swam deeper, guided by the merfolk who effortlessly glided alongside her. As she descended, she discovered a breathtaking underwater kingdom, a realm of enchantment and wonder. The coral reefs thrived with vibrant hues, and sea creatures of all shapes and sizes danced through the swaying kelp forests.
The merfolk led Genevieve through an archway made of iridescent pearls, opening up to a magnificent palace adorned with seashells and shimmering stones. The walls of the palace seemed to pulse with a gentle glow, emanating a sense of magic and ancient power.
As Genevieve entered the palace, she was greeted by the majestic presence of the merman king Triton and his mermaid queen Cora. Their regal figures exuded an aura of authority and wisdom, commanding the respect of all the merfolk in the chamber.
{King Triton} Genevieve, granddaughter of Merlin, we bid you welcome to our underwater kingdom. It is an honor to receive one of such noble lineage. Your arrival brings a glimmer of hope to our realm.
{Queen Cora} Indeed, Genevieve. The legends of your family's connection to magic and the sword Excalibur have echoed throughout the depths of the sea. We have long awaited your presence.
Genevieve bowed respectfully before the merman king and mermaid queen, acknowledging their presence and the weight of her mission.
{Genevieve} I am humbled by your welcome, King Triton and Queen Cora. I have been sent by King Oberon and Queen Titania to retrieve the sword Excalibur from your kingdom, for the fate of both land and sea hangs in the balance.
{King Triton} We are aware of the plight that threatens our realms. The sword Excalibur holds immense power, but it is not to be wielded lightly. We will guide you in your quest, and together, we shall ensure its safekeeping.
Queen Cora's eyes shimmered with a mixture of concern and determination.
{Queen Cora} Genevieve, the task ahead is perilous, and the forces that seek to claim Excalibur for their own are relentless. But fear not, for the magic of the sea shall protect you, and our merfolk warriors will stand by your side.
The merfolk warriors gathered around Genevieve, their tails glimmering with determination and their expressions filled with loyalty.
{Genevieve} Thank you, King Triton and Queen Cora. I am grateful for your guidance and the support of your brave warriors. Together, we shall safeguard the sword and restore balance to our realms.
{King Triton} The sword Excalibur is guarded by the sea, and we have waited for the rightful heir to claim it. Follow us to the Chamber of Tides.
Genevieve followed them through winding corridors until they reached a chamber filled with the soft glow of bioluminescent sea creatures. In the center of the room stood a pedestal, on which Excalibur rested, its ethereal glow illuminating the surroundings.
{Queen Cora} This is the sacred sword, Excalibur, forged by the hands of ancient magic. Only the true heir of Arthur can wield its power. Reach out, Genevieve, and claim your birthright.
Genevieve's heart raced with anticipation as she approached the pedestal. She extended her hand, and as her fingers touched the hilt of Excalibur, a surge of power coursed through her veins. The sword recognized her as the rightful heir, granting her its ancient magic and wisdom.
{Genevieve} I accept this honor with humility and gratitude. I vow to wield Excalibur with courage and honor, to protect the realms and uphold the legacy of King Arthur.
The merfolk applauded, their voices harmonizing in a melodious chorus. As the merfolk applauded, their voices harmonizing in a melodious chorus, Genevieve felt a deep sense of purpose and responsibility. She knew that the weight of the realms rested on her shoulders, but she was bolstered by the support and guidance of King Triton, Queen Cora, and the loyal merfolk warriors.
With Excalibur in her grasp, Genevieve could feel its ancient power coursing through her. It was a connection to her lineage, to the legendary King Arthur, and to the magic that flowed through her veins. She understood that wielding Excalibur meant more than just possessing a powerful weapon; it symbolized a commitment to justice, protection, and the preservation of harmony between land and sea.
As the applause subsided, King Triton stepped forward, his gaze filled with pride.
{King Triton} Genevieve, you have proven yourself worthy of this sacred sword. Now, let the combined strength of our realms guide you on your journey. May Excalibur's light illuminate the path towards a future where magic and balance thrive.
With a nod of gratitude, Genevieve acknowledged the merman king's words. She turned to face the gathered merfolk, her voice resolute and filled with determination.
{Genevieve} To the warriors of the sea, I am honored to stand among you. Together, we shall protect our realms from the forces that seek to disrupt the delicate equilibrium. Let our alliance be a beacon of hope and resilience.
The merfolk warriors raised their tridents and shimmering tails in a show of solidarity, their expressions filled with determination and unwavering loyalty. Their voices echoed through the chamber, blending into a powerful chorus.
{Merfolk Warriors} We pledge our loyalty to you, Genevieve, and to the cause we share. The sea shall rise in defense of the land, and the land shall stand as a steadfast ally of the sea. Together, we shall prevail!
With their united voices resounding, Genevieve felt an indescribable surge of energy and purpose. She knew that she was not alone in her quest and that the combined strength of the merfolk and herself would be an unstoppable force against any threat that may arise.
As the celebrating started whispers started to flow around not only in the sea but on land as well. From the tiniest fish to the biggest mighty dragon, felt the renewed sense of hope and protection. They knew that Genevieve and the merfolk warriors would stand as guardians, watchful and strong. As the news of Genevieve's alliance with the merfolk warriors spread, a ripple of hope swept across the realms. Whispers carried the tale from the depths of the ocean to the highest mountaintops, reaching the ears of creatures far and wide.
In the forests, animals shared stories of the land-dweller who had ventured into the realm of the merfolk, wielding Excalibur and forging an unprecedented bond. From the wise owls to the nimble foxes, they acknowledged the strength and unity that Genevieve's alliance represented.
The birds, with their keen eyes and swift wings, carried the news through the skies, spreading it to distant lands. From the majestic eagles soaring above mountain peaks to the humble sparrows nesting in village eaves, they sang songs of hope and resilience. The tales of Genevieve's bravery and the merfolk warriors' unwavering loyalty traveled far and wide, inspiring creatures of all sizes and species.
Even the ancient trees whispered to one another, their roots interwoven in a vast network of communication. From the towering oaks to the graceful willows, they shared the news of the alliance that promised to safeguard the delicate balance of the realms. The whispers of the trees echoed through the forests, carrying the message of unity and protection.
In the caves, where the dragons slumbered and guarded their hoards, the news of Genevieve's quest spread through their telepathic connections. The mighty dragons, known for their ancient wisdom and fiery strength, sensed the renewed hope that coursed through the realms. They knew that Genevieve's journey held the potential to shape the destiny of all creatures, and they vowed to lend their support if ever the need arose.
From the smallest insects to the largest mammals, creatures of every kind became aware of the presence of Genevieve and the merfolk warriors. They felt the surge of hope and protection, knowing that there were those who would stand as guardians, watchful and strong, against the forces that threatened their homes.
And so, inspired by the tales and whispers that spread throughout the land and sea, creatures from every corner of the realms began to gather. They formed alliances of their own, creating a network of support and solidarity. Together, they pledged to aid Genevieve and the merfolk warriors in their mission to protect the realms and restore balance.
In the face of adversity, the realms stood united. From the depths of the ocean to the highest peaks, from the smallest creatures to the mightiest dragons, they embraced the hope that Genevieve's alliance had ignited. The whispers of unity became a resounding chorus, echoing through the land and sea, promising a future where creatures of all kinds could coexist in harmony and thrive under the protection of those who stood as guardians. And it was this that alerted Princess Dala who decided to go and tell her mother Queen Mab that Excalibur has been found and is being wielded by Genevieve. As she flew as fast as she could she knew her mother will be angry with this news of their enemy.

Welcome back, Eli! Your application for Ivy Stone has been accepted!
OOC INFORMATION:
Name/Nickname: Eli
Age: 23
Pronouns: They/Them
Timezone: PST
Activity and Availability: A few times a week
IC INFORMATION:
Desired Character: Ivy Stone
Second Choice Character: Raven Beedle
What made you choose this character?: I chose this character because a Halfling in an Unseelie court seems like a terrible contradiction. And yet… the Stones pull it off. How would Ivy Stone react to a court that loathes their existence? I imagine they have questions about why their mother chose the Unseelie court, knowing that leaving Ivy behind might be the cost of their alliance. I imagine that, given the war started when Ivy resembled an eighteen-year-old human, there would have been a lot of questions about what growing up in this new world would be like.
Are there any changes you would like to make?: This isn’t so much of a change as it is an interest in connections – but I’m thinking to have an established connection between Ivy Stone and Hyacinth Aven (of any kind, really). Also, I imagine Ivy Stone to be quite confused by the presence of Mikhael Thorson.
Questions/Comments: More just general comments, but I imagine the following connections with currently taken characters as possibilities (though there would be some plotting with these muns!):
Ivy Stone and Freya Briar as childhood friends, potentially.
Ivy Stone and Argos Caraway as enemies, with Argos dealing some damage while the King looks away.
Ivy Stone may fear being spied upon by Alekto Bone.
Ivy Stone and Aubrey Crane as unwitting accomplices, in a very “so who do you work for” kind of way.
Ivy Stone may pick up upon the fact that Rye Hawthorne is conflicted about his position.
Ivy Stone may feel some sympathy toward Rosemary, but mostly, toward baby Becan.
Writing Sample (Must be 300 words or more, third person limited, in the character you’re auditioning for’s point of view):
I attempted a few paras. The one below is complete, but I also want to show you a few incomplete drafts:
Attempt 1: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13K58ftVEiieEvi6CevvwmS96-UUd0SMvLWfimLFKLJ8/edit?usp=sharing

Ivy Stone could count the number of bridges that their dearest mother burned when she ultimately decided to back King Oberon Aven in the unholiest of wars.
The number of bridges could be counted by the number of families that ultimately remained loyal to Queen Mab Bloom, with new bridges built for every Unseelie family that Eris Stone ultimately befriended – if friendship were even an appropriate word for it. Friendship was a word to describe loyalty, but beyond that, a particular bond. Friend described a little Pooka boy Ivy had once fought for a prized necklace. The swiftness with which the Pooka boy had snatched the little locket made Ivy think he belonged to the Foxes. With that in mind, Ivy had gone after him, picking up a heavy fallen branch along the way, more out of impulse than anything else. To their own surprise, Ivy managed to catch up. They should have known better; the Pooka boy had not been running, but simply waiting, watching, grinning as he revealed a weapon of his own.
Another branch. That would have made Ivy laugh, if they even had the time to do so. But they didn’t; the Pooka boy committed to a low swing that made Ivy trip, and the little halfling knew they were up for a fight.
Fight was a laughable word. Scuffle would have been better. Upon landing on their ass, Ivy scurried backward to put distance, watching as they picked up upon the Pooka boy’s movements. In one hand, he held the stick. In the other, he held the necklace, which he tucked away in a pocket that – now that Ivy noticed – was far too big to be secure. Though the Pooka was swift with his stick, he failed to prevent Ivy from getting back on their own two feet, after which Ivy settled on making the Pooka move around enough to let the necklace slip out of his pocket.
He wasn’t quite Fox-like enough to make an effective thief, Ivy had decided. Nor was he an effective enough fighter to be fully wolven. It was then that Ivy had pinned him accurately as a half-breed between the two, though his halven nature was far different from their own.
The scuffle was their introduction. They were right; the Pooka boy was half-Fox, half-Wolf. His name was Odhran Heron, and Ivy had nicknamed him Mousebird.
The bridge that Ivy had maintained with Mousebird remained steady throughout the war, for a few reasons. Wolves had allied with the Unseelie King, and the Foxes followed suit, or so it seemed, but neither clan seemed to have a particular problem with humans – and by extension, those like Ivy. And what with the Stones’ estate settled atop the swamplands, the Wildlands were only a short trek away.
There, they would find Mousebird, and they would confide all of their worries.
The first worry: that with King Oberon Aven’s increased harshness toward humans, Eris Stone may dispose of Ivy and never let them come home. To which Mousebird replied, “You needn’t worry. I have plenty of space in my cave. You know the hidden paths here, in any case. But you may need to prove yourself. Don’t worry, though. I’ve seen you fight. You can’t carry a weapon for crap, but you’re sneaky. I think you can do it.”
Eris Stone never disposed of Ivy. But the treatment of humans became increasingly difficult to watch, with Ivy’s earliest inaction causing them to toss and turn in their sleep. They recalled first being welcomed to Roheim castle, sitting in a rocking carriage with Poppy to their left, and Eris Stone across from them, both family members holding handkerchiefs to their noses. Though Ivy Stone had coughed some, they hadn’t felt nearly as bothered by the thick Hemlock City air as their sister and mother.
Just outside their carriage window, enslaved humans had labored over iron metal, their backs struck by hard leather whenever they worked too slow. Ivy had a brief thought that these humans could touch this iron with their bare hands, and thus use it against their masters. Then, Ivy had the not-so-brief thought that they, themself, could wield a similar weapon, bare-handed.
It was these weapons that Ivy would later come to steal in the nighttime. The second worry that plagued Ivy Stone throughout the war was inaction – that is, doing nothing as their mother backed a tyrant, worrying that their own half-human existence was regarded as a subversive threat in and of itself. In thinking that, Ivy fretted that they would be watched everywhere they went. The first alleviation of this worry was the ease with which Ivy traveled from their swampy estate to the natural Wildlands.
The second was recruitment into the Nighthawks, where they could use their iron-immunity to an advantage.
Bridges fell, and the Stone family built new ones in their place. The Stones loved the Blooms once. They were cousins – family. Queen Mab was a dainty, but hardened ruler, and her uncle Cypress – by extension, Ivy’s distant cousin – a lover of art and music. And Henry Duffy, a human changeling lovely taken into Queen Mab’s care. Yet Eris could see no similarity between Mab’s love for her changeling and her own protectiveness of young Ivy, and declared there was nothing there for the Stones. Along with that, the Stones severed themselves from the Briars, the latter of whom became subject to the strangest of news after the war came to an end.
It was the strange half-clan Mousebird that told Ivy Stone of this. Not out of a want for gossip, not out of a fear for Ivy, or anything typical of what Ivy may expect from court talk or family talk. One night, Ivy had slipped out of the swamplands and into a den of Wolves, only to learn from Mousebird that a Wolf girl’s poor mother died. Some time after that death, a Seelie noble by the name of Harland Briar had come for the Wolf girl, acknowledging her as his daughter before she went off with him to live among Wisteria’s nobility.
The story itself was enough to make the halfling scream and screech and send rocks flying all around the cave, angry that this Wolf girl had better luck than Ivy Stone and their angry, unfortunate human kin.

[i]a time of everlasting frost, bringing with it dangerous beauty and the icy touch of death.
| 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒓 |
Steam left her rosy lips in puffs as she panted, her heart pounding against the cage of her chest. Blood chilling screams echoed in her ears. The sounds of the wounded, the blood thirsty, of pure and unrelenting rage. Thick, crimson blood trickled from silver swords, dripping and staining the purely white snow beneath.
All around, mortals fought with the fae, wielding iron swords, baring suits of the deadly metal. A cry sounded behind her; the female moving with ethereal speed. The soldiers sword caught an arm covered in metal. The loud ringing of metal rang in her ears. Icy eyes gazed into brown as she thrusted her sword through their armor. A gasp left the soldiers mouth, and slowly all signs of life faded from their murky brown hues.
She didn't give them a second glance before moving onto the next enemy. All around metal clanked against metal. Mortal and faerie blood alike stained the ground beneath their feet. Evergreen trees surrounded the field she stood in, a few mortal soldiers fleeing into the canopy of the forest. Human after human fell in her wake, the bodies of mortals and faeries littering the ground.
Blood stained the porcelain skin of her cheek, the faerie slashing mortal after mortal. Whoever dared to get in her path. She was a blizzard; the cold metal of her swords ripping through the soft flesh of her enemy. Her footfalls were growing heavier by the minute, her energy slowly but surely beginning to extinguish.
The King of the Unseelie fought only a few yards away, tearing down the humans that dared to surround him. Bodies began to pile around him, screams of anguish leaving the mouths of those who fell prey to the bitter steel of the sword he wielded.
Chilly eyes fell upon the unseelie prince, his hands bound behind his back by iron chains. His eyes matched her own, the same icy blue orbs managing to catch hers. The King's Champion was a dozen meters away; the mortal soldiers doing their best to cause her to fall to their iron weapons. She was of the folk- no mortal would be able to bring her down with such a puny weapon, no matter how badly the metal burned her flesh.
A figure stepped out from behind her brother, a broad shouldered brute. In both hands, he held within his grasp an iron axe. In that fleeting moment, her heart froze in her chest. A woman stood behind her brother, a wide smirk on her face- the look of someone who knew triumph. That mortal woman held her dear brothers heart. He had loved her, cherished her, brought her into their world. Only for her to take him from his own. A snarl spread across the faeries chapped lips, her lips pulling back to show elongated canines.
Her eyes locked with her twin's as the large axe was lifted, understanding and reassurance flickering in the faerie princes eyes.
]"It's okay." her brother mouthed silently; even though it seemed the words had been spoken in his calming voice right beside her ear. Memories of the both of them flashed through her mind, growing up side by side. He was supposed to become king, and she was supposed to be his general, his second in command.
The mortals took that from her as the axe cleaved through the air.
An ear piercing scream tore itself from her lungs as the axe connected with her brothers neck, slicing through his flesh as if he hadn't even been there to begin with. His severed head fell to the ground with a thump that echoed through her ears. A feral cry left her lips as her father roared in anguish and rage. Everything within herself unleashed itself in a furious rage- static filling the air as thunder cracked in the distance.
She lost everything in that one, fleeting moment. Her brother, her father as she had known him, and the fire that had kept the winter in her heart at bay.
| 𝒑𝒍𝒐𝒕 |
A kingdom crafted from old, it's inhabitants creatures of myth and legend. The fae are malicious beings, known for their tendency of war. The ethereal lands of the fair folk have been at peace, for a time. The folk have become nothing but legend to the mortals now, tales of the Mortal War told as mere myths. Humans grow closer and closer to the borders of Elfhiem, the home of the faeries.
King Oberon united the Seelie and Unseelie court after the Seelie Queen's death, the two courts now combined- though often at one another’s throats. After the Mortal War, he changed. Whispers carried on the wind of how his heart turned to ice. His son, Osiris Oberon, killed on the battlefield, lured away by a mortal lover. Leaving only Osiris's twin sister, Azrael. The kings last remaining kin, and his champion.
Unease has begun to stir within the court. Talk of another war on the horizon. Whilst the King does nothing to quell the gossip of his court- only sits on his throne of ice, unmoved.
A beast prowls the wood of Elfhiem- swift and cunning. The Kings Champion, Azrael, is sent to dispatch the creature, as well as any mortals she may find along the way. With moonlight lighting her way, she tracks the beast- discovering it, as well as what she assumes to be a mortal. Only, after defeating the creature, she discovers they are not only mortal, but a half-ling. Baring the mark of the dead Seelie queen upon their neck. With great distrust, Azrael agrees to bring them to her father. To let him determine if their half-fae heritage should allow them to stay within the fair folk.

BloodRaven Actually Does Something
What if the resurgence of magic was more drastic?
(By which I mean I re-read The Great Northern Alliance on a03 and it’s hilarious and brilliant and I couldn’t stop imagining stuff about it)
Like, imagine that the children born after a certain point (perhaps BloodRaven saw all his remaining relatives go nuts/start getting kicked out and decided to tip the scales a bit) start manifesting magic traits and potential. The highborn have been selectively breeding themselves and accidentally keeping the magic blood strong, but there’s also a lot of small folk, either descended from bastards/demoted families or just genetic luck, who get “tricks”. Like a pair of twins who can share their senses with each other. Or a toddler who’s dolls move. Or a little boy is attacked by his drunken father and his bottle shatters against his glass-glimmer skin.
But the focus the instigator has is on the people he actually wants to have strong abilities-everyone else is just from a ripple effect- aka his relatives (Targaryens) and the Houses who will actually prepare for winter (Major Northern Houses). Starks actually fall into both categories, and so basically all the children from Roberts Rebellion onwards in Winterfell-shire can do something weird. (And in the free cities there are rumours of unnatural children being born, and a Dornish girl hisses to snakes in the shadow of the Tower of Joy).
Stark children “talents”. I’m thinking they can all warg, at least a little. It’s the baseline manifestation of magic. Not a lot, but as the talent ripples out it becomes a boon to sending messages.
Robb picked up his “template” from the far ancient intermarriage the First Men had with the Children of the Forest. Roots climb up his boots if he stands still too long, plants flourish under his gaze. The weirwood trees whisper to him, and let him give them new faces and children. It’s not particularly useful in a fight, but an army under Robb Stark will never go hungry. And if he has a slight green tinge to his skin, and eats a little less than he should, who will know?
Jon Snow may look like his mother, but his many times grand uncle made sure that it was his father’s blood that shaped the awakening magic. The Valerians had children with their siblings do you really think they wouldn’t try and weave the dragons in there somehow as well? Jon doesn’t burn, has never been hurt by heat, and when his rage builds so does the fire in his lungs. Scales sleep under his skin, ready to protect him. No blade seems to do more than well up a tiny amount of blood when Jon Snow wades into battle.
Theon Greyjoy was an accident. An accident that turned out for the best, but still an accident. He came into his abilities late, it taking a year or so exposed to Brynden Rivers’ best efforts before there were results, and even then it wasn’t noticed till Theon dived into a river to save a Bran that was too young to know how to swim. The first Greyjoy took a mermaid to wife, and her blood resurged in her descendent. Water is like air to Theon, and no matter the depth to which he dives, pressure will never be a problem. Less useful is understanding the creatures of the water. That doesn’t mean obey, and they cannot understand any human other than Theon. It does help his claim to heirship when he returns to the Iron Islands with a pod of kracken.
Sansa Stark is a … difficult case. The White Walkers are tied to the Starks, in ways that only they know. But Sansa can walk barefoot through the snow, and haarfrost forms on her fingertips when a presumptive Southron sees a pretty Northern maid travelling to meet her mother’s kin. When the Northern armies cannot win, they fall back into the deep forest, and Sansa Stark steps onto the field, ice woven like lace through her blood red hair, and her Tully eyes burn bright. The Heiress to the Night King smiles like her wolf as every dead man on the field stands up.
Arya Stark actually pulls from her mother’s line. The Tully’s are Andals, and have been devout every since their first crossed the sea with a seven pointed star on their sails. Now a way has been opened for the seven-who-are-one and this child has the potential for any of their faces. Arya Stark can pull on one of the faces of her patron(s), and gains almost impossible skill in that concept. If one did not know how old she was, it could be attributed to a lifetime of study and practice. Arya Stark dislikes stepping into her mother’s sept. The light and statues that turn to face her draw too much attention. The travelling Septon bows to her on the road, and he doesn’t know why he listens to her arguments.
Bran Stark has two Uncle Bryndens. One of them isn’t actually related to him, and he’s never met the other, but they are still his Uncles. Bran has been drifting from mind to mind since he was four, and has been the apprentice to the Three eyed Raven for almost as long. Every creature could have him hiding behind its eyes, listening. Everything ever spoken near a weirwood tree is ready for his perusal. When the North goes goes to war, Bran makes sure his Brothers know everything. And their enemies never think about the rat crouched under their chair. Listening.
Rickon Stark is still young, but his talent for learning languages is already catching attention. Things he writes in the surviving words of the Old Tongue seem strange somehow. Things become much clearer when he recreates a miniature of the Wall from snow, paper, and bloodied ink. His first project is a war table for his elder brother, with the everfrozen ice taking pride of place.
(I have more for other Northern Houses, “wild” talents for the small folk, and what’s happening with and around Viserys and Daenaerys. Also does anyone know where all the Sand Snakes were prior to Oberon picking them up and training them to kill?)
The first idea with much crazier powers could be a ton of fun, but at a glance I worry that it’s too skewed in the North’s favor. I get that it’s Brynden influencing the people he thinks will play the greatest role in the War for the Dawn, but it feels off to have so much of the powers concentrated among characters who already get so much in the fanfiction community. I really dig the Seven being at play with Arya, and I’d probably just take that further to other gods and faiths. Have some of the Rhoynish stuff in Dorne, maybe have Shireen with Rh'llor powers. If the Lannisters have any sort of magic blood, then naturally it would be strong as hell in Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen, since they’re inbred beyond the norm.
Maybe have him focus on the Ruling families, the Strong families (plus his)? or have it as a ripple effect down from whatever cave he’s huddling in, spreading South? Admittedly I do like giving the North a little help, and in universe Brynden would Want the vanguard against the Others to be strong. And I’m focusing at the characters theatre common in stories because they are the ones I know well.
But you’re right that other post rebellion children should have “talents”. What if Shireen and all Roberts Bastards all have variations on weather magic, while Cercei’s children all take after the Lannister mind manipulation or stone singing?
Anyway. I’m thinking there are baseline abilities before the quirk that ancestry or environment gave them. These were set up last time magic spread across the world. Those of First Men blood can warg a little, to a single close animal at minimum. Those of Andal blood may use Septon blessed boundaries to slow or even stop those who are against them. Valerians are fireproof, or at least resistant. And the Royinar ( nowadays Dornish) heal faster, to a varying degree, when in water.
Magic in a person is another tool of survival, and though it may be shaped by ancestry, in manifestation and power, what the wielder needs to survive, to live, is what shapes it. A starving child becomes capable of eating rot without ever sickening, an abused one skin hardens to steel. A child who is fed to the point of vomiting learns to burn fat into bursts of incredible speed and strength and thought .
#not my bunny#but still super cool#I really like this bunny#the North remembers#BloodRaven actually does something#submission

Fairykin: Moonflower speaks
Below this line will be direct quotes from a real fae, reveling her thoughts and what is true and what is not true.
“I am Moonflower. I am the current Princess of the Fae realm, from Oberon’s side. I hear that Shae, the direct writer of this blog, has shown me what people consider to be ‘fae kin’. That is all a lie. It is not true, on one hand, however let me explain what I mean.
Fae kins, and any otherly kins, as you describe it to be, is a lie. Fae cannot be humans and such as humans are not fae. You were born human. Yes, the writer who is directing this to you all, the people who read it - anyone who has a physical body in this realm is theirs. Faeries - and otherly beings - were not ‘born’ human, so please, stop disrespecting the fae and other beings.
I tell you the truth; I am not human. I was born a fae. You were born human with that fae blood inside of you- however, that does not mean you are a fae. Many of you get confused by this but know if you were born a fae, you would be born a fae for a reason - if you were born as a shadow being, you were born for the same reason as well. Being human has its own purpose. Do not disregard that in life.
In conclusion, fairykin and otherly kin do not ‘exist’ in the same way you interpret it to exist. You are disrespecting yourselves, believing you are a creature that you were not born as.”

CH 5 Farewell (End)
Many years had passed since the Aria was born. She was now a young lady of sixteen and in La Tempo with Roger when their parents arrived. Her hair retained the curls she had as an infant and Roger looked more like Maxson now. He was just as tall and had the same build though he was still soft spoken. Kimikyo was walking with a much older Maxson. His hair had turned to grey but he looked relativity the same except for a few new scars that came from an attack on the airport. The attack was made by the railroad but thanks to Kimikyo and the twins' magic nearly everyone made it out alive. The Prydwen though had gone down. It took time but they were able to make the airport a home again.
Aria ran over to Kimikyo and Maxson as soon as the entered the palace, hugging each of them. "Mama, Papa!" She smiled and looked at Maxson. "How's the Brotherhood? Did they get my gifts and cards?" He nodded to him. "They did. They said thank you." She smiled happily before looking at Kimikyo. "So what are you doing here? Not that I wasn't excited when I got your letter." Kimikyo patted her head. "Don't worry we're not going to bring you home. You still have training. We're simply here for our anniversary. We thought taking some time away from the Commonwealth would do some good. How is your training going?" "It's going well! Haku says a few more years and I could run the military for La Tempo." Maxson nodded to her proudly. "That's my girl." She beamed at his approval. "I'll always be your girl papa!" She hugged him again before leaving the two to go back to Haku.
Kimikyo watched her before looking at Maxson. "Seems like she spends a lot of time with Kai." "That it does." The two walked towards the forest that was outside the castle. "Are you sure about this, love? If Lord Oberon could help there's a chance she'd be lost to us forever." "Better than having our little girl dying." "We should talk to her about it though." Maxson took Kimikyo's hand into his. "We will after we talk to him." Kimikyo held his hand in hers, feeling how frail his hand had become. "R-right..." The two walked into the forest and to the lake. The two waited for what felt like hours. Eventually they left and went back to the castle.
While Maxson was fast asleep, Kimikyo spilt away from the castle going back to the forest. She walked to the lake, staring into it. "Lord Oberon, please request to speak to you or Lady Tatiana. If you can hear me...please." She waited for a moment before letting out a sigh. She sat at the lake, closing her eyes as tears streamed down her cheeks. "I'm only a few moments late, why do you cry my child?" Lord Oberon sat next to her in his stag form. "I'm sorry Lord Oberon...It's just-" "I already know." "R-right, of course." She wiped the tears from her cheek as she listened to him. "We are able to provide your daughter a longer life but it will come at a cost." "A life for a life. My husband is already willing to give his for hers." Oberon was taken back by this statement. "That is a lovely sentiment but not needed. We will take her as our own child. Lady Tatiana has been wanting a child for some time now and you've raised a fine princess." "You're...going to take her..fr-from me?" Oberon nodded to her. "Do not worry though, you and your kin are always welcome to visit her. I will give you our sigil to enter the fae world." "But she won't be allowed to leave will she?" "Not for one thousand years. Something easy for you but not her father." Kimikyo bit her thumb nail as she thought to herself. "What...what about when he passes, may she visit him then?" Oberon tucked his ears down at her words. "If she does live with us, I'm afraid not. Once she steps foot in the fae word she will be bound to it for the thousand years." "I could never ask her then...she loves her father too much to miss his passing." Kimikyo bowed her head. "Present the options to her, you may be surprised by what comes from it my child."
Kimikyo stayed in the forest for a few more hours after Oberon left before returning to the castle. It was already the next day when she returned. Maxson was awoke in the bed when Kimikyo walked in. "Good morning my love." She walked over to him, kissing his cheek. "And where did you wonder off to my queen?" He looked at her as she sat next to him. "I went back to the forest...I was able to speak to Lord Oberon." "And?" "They want to take her to the fae world. For a thousand years. To be raised as one of their own." Maxson nodded to her. "Then let's talk to her about it." "Arthur...she won't be able to..-what about when-" Maxson placed his hand on her cheek. "We'll say our good byes when the time comes." Kimikyo helped him out of the bed and to get ready before meeting with Aria.
Roger and Aria were in the dinning room having breakfast and talking amongst themselves when the two walked in. "Mama, papa!" "Good morning mother and father." Kimikyo and Maxson sat across from them, smiling. "Good morning children." Kimikyo looked at Aria. "Aria, my little one, your father and I...have something to discuss with you." "You're not marrying me off to some random soldier are you?!" Aria began to panic before Maxson shook his head. "No, quit the opposite actually." Kimikyo was hesitant before speaking. "Aria...as you know, you're more like your father than you are your brothers." "Because I don't have magic right?" "Correct." Aria smiled at Kimikyo. "That's alright! I can still brew potions and make medicine! So there is no need to worry." "It's not that...that we're worried about. You are an excellent potion brewer by all means." Maxson watched Kimikyo before looking at Aria. "You'll grow older much quicker than them and die at a much earlier age then them." Aria's constant smile faded. Roger and Kimikyo bowed there heads at this information, they always knew. "But...I live here...i-in La Tempo." "Just because you live here doesn't change that fact." Maxson was stern with her. "Your mother and I have spent many years searching for a way to counter this. We've finally found one but the choice is yours and yours alone." "What...what is it then, papa?" Kimikyo looked at Aria. "Lord Oberon came to me and requested you to live with the faes as their child. Lady Tatiana personally requested it as well since you are a princess." "Is that all? I'll do it then!" Aria stood from her chair. "That's not all of it. You'd have to live there for one thousand years and not step foot out of the fae world." Aria looked at Kimikyo then to Maxson. "But...what about papa?"
Maxson looked at Aria before looking at Kimikyo. "I won't be able to go with you. The offer is only for you." "That's-That's not fair! Mama please go back to Lord Oberon a-a-and-" "Enough, Aria." Maxson stood from his seat. "I was going to give my life for yours if that were the case. I'm a human and I plan on dying a human. You though have the chance to live with you brothers and mother and that's what I need you to do." "P-papa..." "You're mother will need all of you once I go. So please do this as a final mission from me, as Brotherhood soldiers your job is to keep your mother happy when I die." Kimikyo and Aria looked at Maxson before they both started crying. Roger also looked at his father but with a more concerned look to him. When Aria finally stopped crying she spoke softly. "I-I'll go to the fae world then." Kimikyo nodded to her. "I will let Lord Oberon know then." At that Kimikyo left the castle to relay Aria's confirmation.
While away Roger walked with Maxson around the castle. "Father, permission to speak?" "Granted, though you don't have to ask." "Earlier when you were talking...you acted as if you were going to die soon, like very soon." Maxson was silent for a fall longer than expected time than Roger had wanted. "I've lived my whole life in the Commonwealth with the filth and radiation. No matter the amount of rad-away and rad-x I take it will stop it and the constant stress of running the Brotherhood, has taken it's toll on me. I will be dying very soon. Perhaps in the next year, maybe the next five." "Dad...." Maxson looked at Roger. "I just want to make sure your mother will be okay. I'm afraid she will lock herself away again when I'm gone." "Dad, you know we can only do so much for her....she'll need you." "I'm afraid I can't stay forever." Roger thought for a moment before looking at Maxson. "Then what about a reincarnation spell? She'll be able to find you again. It may take a twenty or so years but you'll be together again." "Does such a spell exist?" Kigra had walked up on the two when Roger suggested the spell. "It does but it is very complex and highly advanced also it is dark magic. You'd have to gather many foreign items and it will take three casters to preform and a sacrifice." Kigra crossed her arms as a small purple hair child peeked out from behind her dress. Roger looked at the child, smiling at him. "Hi DJ..." "You should ask Aunt Kimi about all this. Pa-ba says not to hide stuff." Kigra picked up the child in her arms. "Your father is very smart."
Maxson looked at Kigra and the child before looking at Roger. "When did she have a child?" "Oh about five years ago, sort of." Kigra snapped at Maxson. "My husband asked Nora to help. DJ is surrogate child considering you know." "Ah yes, that's right." Roger and Kigra looked at Maxson with concern. Maxson walked away from the two before Kigra spoke. "He's having memory issues?" "I suppose so...I haven't seen him in a few years. I'll have to ask mom." "Let me. She'll probably keep it from you so you don't worry." Roger nodded to her before taking DJ from her when handed him. "Where is Danse anyways?" "Pa-ba is on a..a.." He looked at Kigra, looking for the word. "A mission." "Mention!" Roger and Kigra couldn't help but laugh at DJ. "Kai sent him off to Windhelm to bring back Vaati." "Ah."
Kigra kissed DJ's cheek before going to look for Kimikyo. She was with Maxson, giving him medicines when Kigra walked up on them. "Kimikyo, do you have a moment?" "Y-yea...give me just a second." She finished helping Maxson before walking over to Kigra. "What's up?" "Can we go for a walk, just the two of us?" Kimikyo looked back at Maxson who nodded to her. "I-I suppose that's alright." Kigra and Kimikyo walked away from Maxson. When far enough away Kigra spoke. "I noticed that Maxson might have some memory loss. He didn't seem to recall DJ." "R-really?" Kimikyo was clearly not surprised by this information. "Maybe he...feigned ignorance b-because DJ is a synth?" Kigra stopped walking, turning to Kimikyo. "Maxson may hate synths but I very clearly remember us all agreeing NOT mentioning that to him. Did you tell him?" Kimikyo looked away before shaking her head. "No. I didn't tell him." "Then he IS forgetting." "Yes....he is. He's forgotten a lot of thighs recently." Kimikyo bowed her head, chocking back her tears. "He forgets th-that he's retired, h-he's forgotten that the twins don't live with us, he even forgot who I was once. He's getting...he's becoming weaker a-and I...I fear I'm going to-" Kimikyo couldn't finish her sentence as she fell to her knees crying. Kigra hugged her sister tightly. "Shh...Hey...Roger...might have found something...it's the reincarnation spell." "That's black magic though..." "I think in this case, we'll be pardoned." Kigra pulled out a handkerchief to wipe Kimikyo's tears away. "We'd have to act fast but there's one other thing...we'd need a sacrifice equal to a human. Kimikyo...we'd either have to kill someone or kill many, many animals which will upset they faes and Mudoken." "Then it's out of the question. Killing shouldn't be the answer."
Kimikyo and Kigra continued to walk the castle with Kimikyo letting all her emotions out that she's been holding in. "He's still so stubborn. Getting him to take his medicine has become a challenge most days. He will fight me, I normally have to just grind it and put it in his food." "What about the days you can't get him to take medicine?" Kimikyo was silent at Kigra's question. "That bad, huh?" "He becomes bed ridden those days to the point he just sleeps all day....I don't think he'll last another year." "Have you talked to him about what will happen once he's gone?" Kimikyo nodded to her. "He wants it to happen in the Commonwealth and he's agreed to be cremated. He asked that The kids each get part of his ashes. Owen has already taken charge of the Brotherhood, but he's willed Roger his Power armor and Aria knife." "What about his coat?" Kimikyo looked at Kigra as if she asked a dumb question, which she had. "R-right. You've most likely already claimed it." "I did, even though he tried to say he wanted to be cremated in it. I begged him to let me keep it."
Kigra had returned Kimikyo to Maxson before going to the throne room. In the throne room stood Kenji, Kimikyo's grandfather. "Kenji. What a surprise, what are you doing here?" "I've come to see my great grandchildren. I've already met with Roger and I'm awaiting to see Kimikyo. I have a gift for her." Kigra tilted her head before looking around. "Where...is Roger?" "He's gone out to find artifacts." Kigra's face paled. "Kenji...." "Go gather my grand-daughter please." "R-right." Kigra rushed back to Kimikyo explaining that Kenji was there. Kimikyo went to Kenji, leaving Kigra with Maxson. "Grandfather...?" Kenji turned to her, smiling at her. "Your son is just like his grandfather. When nervous he spills his guts." He chuckled lightly. "He's told me about your husband and the plans that came from it." "Grandfather, we can't it requires a human sacrifice. I will not kill anyone." "I see but what if it is someone who wants to die?" Kimikyo was taken back by his words. "Wh-what...?" "I'm nearly seventy thousand years old and I miss my wife. She's been gone for twenty thousand years now and I think it's time I go see her." "Grandfather...I...I can't." "Then don't be there. The spell only needs three casters and you have three siblings that I'm very sure are willing to do any thing to make their baby sister happy." Kimikyo teared up again at his words. "Grandpa! Please don't." "I've already told you, I want to see my wife again. Either I do a noble thing or I'm jumping down a mountain." Kimikyo looked at him, he had a serious look to his face. She wasn't going to sway him no matter what she did or say, she just simply nodded to him. "Very well. I will go help Roger find the items needed." "Please hurry...Maxson may not have very long." Kenji patted Kimikyo's head before leaving.
Kimikyo returned to Kigra and explained everything to her and Maxson. "What happens when the spell is cast?" Maxson spoke up. "Well when you die you'll be reincarnated it may happen right away or it may take a few years. Where it happens in key. If you die in the Commonwealth that's were you'll be reincarnated." Kigra explained. "And how will she know it's me when it happens?" Kimikyo looked at Maxson with a shocked expression. "Well that's the trick...one of the items to recover is an aura detecting device, it's a necklace actually. We'd place your blood, hair, skin...ashes, just a piece of you in the necklace, when you get reincarnated it will glow as the pieces will try to return to Maxson. It's like a compass, it will lead you to him. Once you find him again just open your necklace and allow the pieces to return to him. The great thing is after that happens, you'll actually be able to remember her and you previous life." Kimikyo thought for a moment before looking at Kigra. "Do...would I have to do the spell each time?" "No, it's a cursed spell so the person will be reincarnated each time but you must always have a piece of the from the previous life in order for them to be whole once more." "That doesn't sound too bad." Kimikyo said with relief. "Kimi...he will remember each and every life that builds up. He may start to go mad as in this life his apart of the Brotherhood but the next he may be a ghoul or a synth. Multiple lives will conflict with each other which is why it's a curse and not a blessing. It's dark magic for a reason." "O-oh.." Kimikyo looked at Maxson. "Are you sure you want this, my King?" "I want you to do what ever makes you happiest." "What if I don't have anything from a previous life, what would happen then?" Kigra thought for a moment before shrugging. "I'd assume he wouldn't have any memory of that previous life and it'd be a reset." "We could fall in love again." Kimikyo looked at Kigra. "Or he'd fall in love with someone else. There's always a down to the up, Kimikyo." "R-right..."
Kimikyo waited until night time when Maxson slept to go find Aria. Aria was in her room, packing a bag to go to the fae world. "Aria..." Kimikyo walked over to her daughter. "Mama?" Kimikyo was silent as she looked at the items that were laid out to be packed. "I-I wanted to take my favorite things." She picked of a photo of her, her brothers, and their parents back when she was still a baby. "A thousand years is a long time and I don't want to forget you guys." "You'll find that it is just a drop in a lake when you can live forever." Kimikyo helped Aria pack, the two remained silent. They weren't as close as Aria was to Maxson. Kimikyo often felt a disconnect with each of her children, though they all loved each other very much. "Mama...is this a good idea?" "Is what a good idea?" Aria hesitated before speaking. "Going to the fae world...to be someone else's child." "You only have to go if you want to...no of us are forcing you." There was a long silence. "However, I do think it is a good idea and a bad one at the same time." "Mama?" "You will always be our child, no matter what and I want what's best for you. I don't want to loose you so soon, you're my little princess. The fae world is a mystery to us. Even though they gave us our magic we know next to nothing about them. I was lucky to have Lord Oberon bless me with his company but I do worry for you and your safety there. I don't know the right answer but I will not force you to go." Aria looked at Kimikyo taking note of the bags under her eyes. They were from exhaustion and crying. "Will you visit me?" "Lord Oberon said that I may. I will visit as much as I can." Aria wrapped her arms around Kimikyo who in return hugged her. "I am to deliver you tomorrow night. Please spend what time you can with your father." "I will."
Aria could hardly sleep that night. When the sun rose she went to the kitchen and with the help of the chefs on duty she prepared a breakfast for her parents. She went to their room to deliver the food. "Mama, papa, I made breakfast." She walked in to see Kimikyo giving Maxson medicines though he was fighting it. "I told you I don't need them. I'm fine!" "Arthur...please...." She was exhausted from the constant struggle of taking care of him. "Papa, you need to take your medicine." Aria stepped in to take over for Kimikyo. After a lot of back and forth Aria was able to get him to take the medicines. "Papa can we have a father, daughter day today?" Kimikyo smiled lightly at Aria's words. "I think that is a great idea. I promised Kigra to spend time with her today anyways." Maxson nodded at Kimikyo's words. "Very well, what would you like to do then Aria?" "Can you take me back to the Prydwen? I've missed it." She smiled happily at him. Soon the two went back to the Commonwealth.
Kimikyo headed to Kigra when Roger and Kenji returned. "Mother." Kimikyo looked at him with concern in her eyes. "We were able to get all but the phoenix feather...." "That shouldn't be too hard. Your uncle is the phoenix." "R-really? I honestly just thought he was a giant fire chicken...." Kimikyo gave him an agreeable look. The three went to find Kai but was met with Rosalina. "I'm sorry Kimikyo, your brother has went on a tour of the countries for peace treaties. He won't be back for months." Roger looked at Kimikyo, she was trembling at Rosalina's words. Roger turned to Rosalina. "Where is he heading? What's his route?" Rosalina sighed before nodding to her lady in waiting. The woman wrote down all the areas they were to stop at before handing it to Roger. "You'll not be able to catch him so easily. They are two days ahead of you and you're not a flyer." "But my mother is." "I can't leave your father alone...." Roger placed his hand on her shoulder. "Go. Aria has father right? I'll also be here to help and so will Owen." Roger walked with Kimikyo outside. She transformed into a dragon and made her way to find Kai.
Aria and Maxson went to the Commonwealth and directly to the airport. Owen greet them with a warm smile. Aria took time to meet with Owen, explaining to him everything that is going with her and the fae world. "While I am happy to hear you will be able to grow and live with us, is this what you want or are you trying to make father happy? You follow his every wish and command no matter what." Aria was silent as the two watch Maxson act as if he were still the Elder. "It's his dying wish to keep mother happy...and she's already so distraught about loosing dad. I can't imagine how she'll be if she lost one of us." Owen nodded to her. "How long do you think he has?" Owen asked his sister. "Mother doesn't think he has another year...I fear he'll have less time. The radiation is dangerous here...why do you choose to stay?" "Because I have magic to protect me from the radiation and....it was father's request that I took over." Aria smiled at her brother. "See I'm not the only one who tries to make him happy." "Hmm...fair enough. So where is mom?" Aria looked at Owen. "She's in La Tempo with aunt Kigra though I hope she's resting. Taking care of father has been a struggle for her recently." "I can only imagine. It's sad to see such a proud and strong may deuterate so quickly." Aria and Owen watched Maxson for a little bit longer before they joined him.
Kimikyo had quickly caught up to Kai and his diplomats. She landed behind the convoy before running towards the front. "Kai!" This caused many of the knights with them to draw their swords on her. "Great divines men! This is my sister lower your weapons." Kai stopped his horse, allowing Kimikyo to walk up to him. "Why are you here? Not that I don't mind your company." Kimikyo bowed to him, speaking quickly as she felt time was running out. "I need one of your feathers." Kai paled at her words. He looked at his men then to the sky, it was nearly night. "Alright men let's set up camp here. Kimikyo, come with me." Kai climbed off the horse before turning into a phoenix. He led his sister into the sky to talk with out being out of sight on the convoy. "Why do you need a feather?" "It's Maxson...he doesn't have long, a year at most. We...I-I found a spell...and I need one of your feathers. It's the last thing I need." "Kimikyo. That's dark magic. If you preform it not only will you be cursed but so will Maxson. I can't allow you to do this. I will not give you a feather." Kimikyo recoiled at his unwillingness to help. "Y-you don't even know what spell I found!" "I do!" He, for the first time ever, shouted at her. "I do know it and I will not give you my feathers!" Kimikyo teared up at his words. "Just let the man die in peace. He's not like us. He will not be able to handle the mental strain that you will place on him."
Kimikyo landed away from the convoy, tears streaming down her face once more. Kai landed next to her. "I know this is cruel of me, Kimikyo but I will not risk your well being for someone else. You always take care of everyone else, just this once take care of yourself." He placed one of his wings on her back. "I..I can't loose him Kai." "Kimikyo, I think you need to see Azumiral. She can help you cope with your loss when it does happen." Kimikyo quietly sobbed at Kai's words. The two had transformed back into their human forms with Kai holding Kimikyo as she cried. Haku had walked over to them, saddened by the sounds of Kimikyo's crying even though she had fallen asleep. "Lord Kai, we've finished setting up." "Thank you." "Would you like me to escort her back...?" Kai held onto his sister. "No, just let her sleep for now. Send one of the carrier pigeons to the castle informing them she arrived and won't be returning until tomorrow." Haku nodded to Kai before going to do as told.
Kai had moved against a tree as he held Kimikyo through out the night. Haku had covered the two once Kai fell asleep. The next morning Kai was the first to awake. He had plucked out one of his feathers for Kimikyo, leaving her a note with it before he and his convoy packed up and left her under the tree. Kimikyo woke hours after they had left. She read the note which read: "Kimikyo, while I don't recommend using the reincarnation spell or any of the life or death spells the option is ultimately up to you. Just ask yourself this one question, is this what he would have wanted when he was younger?" She clenched the note and feather in her hands before sighing. "No...No Kai...it's not what he would have wanted." She transformed into her dragon form to fly back to the castle. Along the way she thought to herself about what to do.
When she landed she was rushed by Roger. "Did you get it?!" She transformed back as she handed him the feather. "Roger....don't preform the spell." "B-but mom-!" She shook her head at him. "Go spend time with him while you can." "Mom...what about grandfather Kenji?" "Let him die on his own. He said he was prepared to end it either way." She hugged Roger tightly before the two walked in the castle. Aria and Owen were there with Maxson who was fighting them to take medicine. "Enough. Put it down." "Mama...?" "Mother?" Kimikyo walked over to Maxson, wrapping her arms around him. "We're being selfish aren't we love?" He wrapped his arms around her. "No more medicines...no more spells. I promise." Their kids looked at them for a long while before joining in on the hug. "We're sorry dad."
Later that evening Kimikyo took Aria to the edge of the forest where Oberon was awaiting them. Roger and Owen had given her a tight hug before she turned to Kimikyo. "Please let me know when it happens." "I will my little song bird." Kimikyo kissed her forehead and hugged her before Aria walked over to the large stag. "Are you prepared, child?" "I am." Oberon laid down in order for her to climb on his back, which she did. "I'll see you in a thousand years, Owen and Roger. Try not to blow the Commonwealth up." She joked to them. Oberon, with Aria on his back, walked back into the forest. The three lingered before returning to the castle.
With each passing day, Maxson got worse and was bed ridden most days. Kimikyo never left his side, even after they returned to the Commonwealth. She would try her best to get him out of bed and to walk but many days in was impossible. Roger would visit them often as would Kigra and Kai to give her a break here and there but she was never far from them.
Six months had passed since then. Kimikyo and Maxson were laid in their bed together. Maxson was holding her as he use to do when he spoke. "Don't ever forget my, my queen." "I won't. How could I?" She was facing him as the two spoke. "You know in all my life....I never imagined I have such a wonderful wife that was stronger then me." "Arthur I'm not stronger then you." He stroked her hair, smiling at her. "You are because I know you'll live on after I'm gone and that makes you stronger." "....Arthur?" He closed his eyes, a faint smile still on his face. "I love you, Kimikyo." "I love you too." He slowly went limp as he stopped breathing. Kimikyo stayed in his arms, silently crying. Little did she know outside she was causing a massive storm to form above the airport. Owen watched it form, his eyebrows were furrowed as he noted it wasn't a normal storm. "Go find my mother." "Sir?" "Now!" The soldier rushed off to Kimikyo and Maxson's quarters. "Miss Kimikyo. Your son is requesting you." They knocked on the door a few times before returning to Owen. "Elder Owen, she didn't answer but...I heard what sounded like crying." Owen rushed to the quarters with the soldier close behind. "Mom. Open the door or I'm kicking it in." Owen was pounded on the door. "Mom!" He took a step back before kicking the door in.
Owen and the soldier looked into the room to see a partially transformed Kimikyo. She looked human but had black dragon scales creeping over her skin as well as her tail, wings and claws were formed. It was as if she was fighting back her transformation. Owen looked over to see the lifeless Maxson. "M-mom...." Owen slowly walked over to her, gently touching her shoulder. "Mom...let's go." "No!" She held on to Maxson's shirt. "I can't leave him!" "Mom he's not here anymore." "He-he's right here. We were just talking!" Owen looked back at the soldier who was in terror at Kimikyo's form. "Go get my aunt Azumiral." "Sir she's-" "Right here." Azumiral had rounded the corner arriving. "I saw the storm from the castle." She walked into the room, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Kimikyo...it's time to let him go." "I can't." "I know you can't...but you have to. He wouldn't want you to behave like this. This isn't how his queen would react, would it?" Kimikyo looked at Maxson's body, giving him one last kiss before letting him go. Owen had rolled Maxson on to his back as Kimikyo sat up. Azumiral wrapped her arms around Kimikyo before ushering her outside of the room. The soldier quickly moved into the room to help Owen prepared Maxson's body.
Azumiral walked with Kimikyo outside who instantly fell to her knees. "Let it out." Azumiral stepped back, as did any near by soldiers. Kimikyo had let out a painful scream as tears rolled down her cheeks. With each scream she let out, lightening struck. After an hour passed the storm had faded, with her finally calming down. Many of the soldiers were now mourning with her. Azumiral walked over to Kimikyo, hugging her tightly. "It'll be okay. You'll be okay." Kimikyo was silent as she held onto her sister. Owen had walked over to them, his eyes puffy as he too had cried. "What...what did dad want us to do with his body?" "He wanted to be burned....so we could each have his ashes." "Right....mom...I know this is hard but what about his belongings?" Kimikyo had looked at Owen. "Aria gets his knife, Roger gets his Power armor, you've already gotten yours, and I'm taking his coat and tags." Owen thought for a moment before asking. "What did I get?" "The Brotherhood....we never said anything but this division had split from the main groups years ago due to your father refusing to leave us. The Citadel didn't believe we had the right to live in the Commonwealth because we weren't human enough for them. It seemed many of the soldiers hated not just me but you and Roger too and made many complaints to the Citadel." Owen was shocked by this. "That...would explain a lot actually. I'm honored he gave my his division." "Please lead it as your father would have...after he's burned...I don't think I can stay here." "Mom?" Kimikyo hugged Owen. Owen ran his hand through his mother's hair. "Stay in contact." "I will."
Only a few days had passed since Maxson died. Many Brotherhood soldiers, Minutemen, and people of La Tempo had arrived. Kigra had arrived earlier in the day to construct a stone chamber with holes on one side to allow flames to enter. Kimikyo was in the room Maxson's body was being kept in. She was wearing his coat on her shoulders like a cape. She was fixing his hair and outfit when Roger, Owen, Kai and Danse walked in. "Mom...it's time." "Right...." She kissed Maxson's forehead before she left the room. The four moved him to a wooden casket to be taken to the chamber. As they walked towards it the Brotherhood soldiers solituded causing everyone else, even Kimikyo who hardly ever did, to solute. The casket was placed in the chamber then sealed. The boys and Danse stood by Kimikyo who was near the chamber. She nodded to Kai and the two other fire users. At her command they released their flames into the chamber. With a shaking voice, Kimikyo spoke. "Ad...Ad Victorium!" After a moment everyone repeated her.
A few hours had passed. Everyone had gone to their homes or was attending the celebration of life ceremony that was being held in the airport building. Danse hardly left Kimikyo's side at Kigra's request. Hancock had even showed up. "How are you doing kiddo?" "I'm holding up....you know...he's probably flipping out because you're here." "Heh, I'm hoping so. I always did enjoy fucking with him. He was too easy to annoy, ain't that right crue-cut?" He looked over at Danse who simply nodded to him. "Anyways, I'm sorry for your loss. You two really complimented and loved each other really much. I think you softened and warmed his stone cold heart. I mean hell I'm still standing, before you I would of had a bullet between my eyes. So would Danse." "Is that supposed to make her feel better?" Danse glared down at Hancock though Kimikyo stepped in. "It's fine. I'll take it as a compliment considering Arthur was hard-headed." Kimikyo gave Hancock a quick hug before he left the airport.
Kai had walked over to his sister carrying a vase. "Here he is." Kimikyo gently took the vase from him, with her wrapping her arms around it. "Thank you...I think I'll take him to La Tempo." "Kimi...I know it was hard for you, but thank you for not casting the spell. I don't think I could bare it for you both to be cursed." He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to him. "I have to get back to La Tempo now. Danse please take care of her." "Sir." Kai kissed her forehead before leaving. Little by little people began to give their condolences and goodbyes until it was just her and Danse left in the building. "Kimikyo....?" "Danse....do...you think...he was okay with this?" She squeezed the vase, tears rolling down her cheeks. "You said he agreed to the cremation." "No..the party. He didn't like them much...but always attended them for me." Danse thought for a moment. "I think he would have wanted it in the end because you wanted it. No doubt he would have done the same for you. Maybe less ghouls and more serious. Knowing him he would have made everyone wear formal clothes and served only the finest foods." Kimikyo couldn't help be crack a smile at his words. "He really would have." "He would have cried just as much though." "Thank you Danse...but I don't think he had the capability to cry." "Only he does. I've seen him cry twice now." She looked up at him with curiosity. "Once when the twins were just born and once when Aria was. He never wanted you to know but he was worried and scared to be a parent. He worried every day for their lives, knowing how harsh the Commonwealth, the worlds for the fact, were." The two were silent before Danse gently asked. "Are you ready to go back to La Tempo?" "I am." Danse led Kimikyo to the portal and went back to La Tempo.
On the other side of the portal Kigra was waiting for them with DJ. "Daddy!" The tiny child reached for Danse who picked him up. Kigra walked over to Kimikyo, hugging her tightly. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there." "It's alright...I know you two weren't close." "That's...That isn't why.." Kigra looked at her a bit heart broken that Kimikyo thought it was the reason she was absent. "Kimikyo...." "I'm sorry...I'm just really tired." Kimikyo walked past the three of them, going directly to her old room. DJ looked at Danse, confused. "Is aunt Kimi sick?" "N-no sweetness....she's just sad right now." Kigra responded to him.
The next day Kimikyo went to the jeweler. "Queen Kimikyo, it's a pleasure to see you. I heard the news, I'm sorry." "It's fine....I...can you make me four cremation necklaces." "Of course. Any design you want?" Kimikyo thought for a moment. "One heart shape, and the other three can be cylindrical." "Very well. I'll have them ready in three days time." "Thank you." Kimikyo left the shop before walking around the town. She stopped at a food stall to get lunch only to think back on one of the first outings she and Maxson had. She had dragged him to the stall to get cup cakes. She had convinced him to try one that was vegetable based. "Ma'am? Is there anything else you'd like?" "Y-yes....can I have a vegetable melody cup cake." "Of course! You know we only sold a handful of these. We'll be pulling these soon. No many people like them." "O-oh...do...do you think I could have the recipe then? My husband really likes them." "I'll have to ask my mother but I don't see any harm in it." The girl went in the back to get her mother. The two soon returned. "Oh my, Princess Kimikyo you're wanting the recipe?" Kimikyo nodded to her. "Maxson really liked them." "Oh deary....of course you can have it. I'll go write in down right now. Imogene, don't charge her for anything today." "Mama?" Kimikyo had shook her head looking at the now alone daughter. "Please....don't pity me, let me pay at least half price if anything." "R-right....I'm sorry I don't know what's going on but mama said to give it to you for free so that's what I have to do." She packaged the cupcakes up in a box as her mother gave Kimikyo the recipe.
Kimikyo made her way back to the castle where she ran into Vaati. The two had never met when Vaati had walked up to her. He had Rosalina's golden hair and light purple eyes. "Who are you?" He was the same age as Aria only months older. His arms were crossed as he stood before he. "I'm-" "The new maid, of course! Get to work my room is a mess." Kimikyo tilted her head at him before nodding. "And what are these? Don't think because you are late that you can bribe the ROYAL family." He took the box of cupcakes from her hands. Opening it up, he pulled out one of her cakes that with vanilla and bright pink with frosting. "Who gets veggie cakes? Those are disgusting." "My husband is quite fond of them." "Look I don't care. Next time get better cakes." Vaati shoved the box back to her. She couldn't help but smile at him before she followed him. "Where is your room?" "You don't know?! Gods just ask the head maid she'll tell you." "I'm sorry but I don't know anyone here. I'm new remember?" Vaati grabbed her wrist, dragging her to Kai and Rosalina. "Mom, dad, who hired this maid! She's completely useless." "Vaati..." Kai spoke. "I mean she doesn't even know who to go to or where anything is at! She also brought these disgusting cupcakes." Rosalina looked at Kimikyo who just shrugged at her. "Vaati." He turned to Kimikyo, even though it was Rosalina who spoke. "I want my room clean! Do you understand? Clean. C-L-E-A-N." "I still don't know where your room is." "Vaati, why don't you show her where your room is. Be a good prince." Vaati looked at Kai before nodding to him. Vaati dragged her by the wrist again to his room. Kai looked at Rosalina who was pinching the bridge of her nose. "How long should we wait to tell him?" "Let her go through his room to dig up dirt on him first." Kai laughed. "He needs to be taught a lesson or two!"
Vaati opened his door. His room wasn't particularly messy, everything was just scattered. "I'll leave you to it then. I'll be back after dinner and I expect you to be finished." At that he left. Kimikyo looked around the room before placing her items on a near by table. She began picking up his clothes, placing them on the bed. "If this is a mess, I wonder what he'd say about the Commonwealth." Before she began anything else, she opened the window. She then started picking up all the trash and books.
Kigra walked to Kai. "Have you seen Kimikyo today?" "We have but you might want to ask Vaati. He was with her last." "Really?" Kigra was confused by this before going to look for Vaati. She searched for almost an hour for him, only to find him in the dinning hall preparing for dinner. Kai and Rosalina had joined the group as did Danse, Roger and DJ. "Vaati, a moment please?" "What is it Aunt Kigra?" His attitude was completely different. He was calmer and more polite. "I wanted to ask you if you've seen Kimikyo today. She's your other aunt." "No I haven't. I'd assume she's at her house. Why do you ask?" Kigra looked at Kai with an all around confused look. "Kai?" Vaati sat down after he got a plate of food. "Vaati tell me what happened with that woman you brought to us earlier." "I took her to my room to clean it. She looks lazy so I doubt she'll be done anytime soon. Honestly, Pheilo hires the most random people!" Kai nodded to him then looked at Kigra. "Vaati, have you ever met you aunt Kimikyo? Do you know what she looks like?" "No, why?" Kigra let out a sigh. "How long has that maid been cleaning your room?" "About an hour or so." Vaati looked at Kai and Rosalina. Rosalina turned away, sipping her tea. Kigra handed Vaati a small photo of Kimikyo where she was with her three kids and Maxson. "This is your aunt, this is your uncle and of course you know your cousins." Vaati looked at the photo before rushing to his room with Kai and Kigra following behind him.
Kimikyo was finishing making his bed when the three opened the door. "Vaati, I found this journal. What did -" "DIDYOUREADIT!?" He was blushing at his words. Kimikyo looked at him before nodding. "Only the page you left it open to. So Imogene huh?" Vaati turned red at her words. "You know she's the baker's daughter of the cupcake you hate so much." He blushed darker and darker at her words. "Why...why didn't you say you were my aunt?!" Kai was laughing as he was being dragged away by Kigra. Kimikyo sat on the edge of his bed, shrugging. "I was bored. I use to clean my boys' rooms all the time when I had alot on my mind." Vaati sat on his bed. "Aren't you a queen? Why would you have on your mind that's so bad?" Kimikyo looked at him. "What is it you think queens do?" "They sit on the throne and look elegant all day or sip tea and eat snacks." "Maybe here that's what's done...though that doesn't sound true but where I'm from I had to manage hundreds of people in order to make sure hundreds more had a chance to live. Food was had to come by and the food that was found was poisonous by radiation. I was also a peace keeper there. There are what's could synths and ghouls there that many people didn't like and some would actively hunt them down and kill them. They would come to me for help and I would do just that." "Uncle Danse talked about how ghouls are disgusting creatures and choose to live with the affects of the radiation." "That doesn't mean they should be killed for it and they aren't that disgusting. Though it may take some getting use to, to those who judge others easily." Vaati looked at her before looking at the box with the cupcakes in them. "Mom and Dad told me you lost your husband...so why did you buy him a cupcake?" "Out of habit I suppose. It's been a few days but it's still hard to come to terms. We were inseparable for so long that it just feels like a dream right now. That I'll wake up and he'll still be by my side in the morning." Vaati was awkwardly silent for a moment before speaking. "I can understand to an extent. My best friend died a few months ago. He was really sick from birth...it was a miracle he lasted for sixteen years." "How long did you know him for?" "Since birth...mom's noble friend had a child the same year and they would always arange play dates for us when we were kids." Kimikyo patted his head. "I'm sorry for your loss." "Same." "How about we make a deal...any time you feel like crying or letting your emotions out you come to me. I know how hard it is for you boys to find an outlet for your emotions. My Owen would always come to me to just rant on and on and he even cried to me a few times." "No way! Owen? He's huge and so strict!" Kimikyo laughed lightly. "He is, isn't he? But yes even Owen has emotions. I don't want you bottling them up, so please come to me if you ever need anything Vaati." "Alright but you have to take me flying! Aunt Kigra says you're a dragon and a great flyer." Kimikyo nodded to him. "It's a deal then."
Kimikyo had lived in La Tempo for years after that day. Once a week she would go to the forest to visit Aria. She would call for Oberon and he would bring her to the fae world. On her first visit she brought Aria a necklace with Maxson's ashes and his hunting knife. Every visit after that Aria and Kimikyo would sit and talk for only a couple hours before Tatiana would call for Aria. She had many fae classes and lessons which left her with little time to socialize.
A thousand years had finally passed. Roger, Owen and Kimikyo were all stood at the edge of the forest waiting for Aria. Kimikyo's hair was now cut to shoulder length. Owen had new scars on not only his face but his body too. He had long since moved back to La Tempo to lead the royal guard. Roger's hair was longer and tied back in a pony tail. He looked more like Maxson then Owen in face and build. Rustling was heard from the trees before Lord Oberon, for once in his true fae form walked out with Aria following him. She was more womanly now, resembling her grandmother in stature and how she holds herself. She looked at Oberon who nodded to her. She rushed over to her siblings, wrapping her arms around them. The twins had hugged her back.
Kimikyo walked over to Oberon, bowing to him. "Thank you for allowing my little girl to live among us as immortals." "Thank you for allowing us to borrow her. Tatiana loved having her there with us." She nodded to him. "Is she okay with? She won't try to take her back will she?" "You are all our children and she knows that. She simply wanted to know what it felt like to raise a child. She will not come back for Aria." Kimikyo let out a sigh of relief. Aria ran over to Oberon giving him a hug. "Good bye Lord Oberon. Thank you for everything!" "Your welcome, child. Remember my lessons and stay out of trouble. I know how much of trouble makers your brothers are." Aria nodded to him. Oberon had left to go back to the Fae world.
Aria had visited her aunts, uncle, and cousins before she and Kimikyo went to the royal family mausoleum. "Hi papa..." Aria walked over to the shrine that contained Maxson's ashes. It was still well maintained and clean with flowers and the wolf plush. "I'm back and able to live with everyone now. I've learned so much from Lord Oberon and Lady Tatiana. I wish you could be here with us...." She had a smile on her face though tears were rolling down her cheeks. "Mama said you left with a smile. I'm glad...I was worried you'd go out fighting ghouls and synths. I promise I'll make sure mama stays happy from now on but you need to hurry back to us. Lord Oberon says that the cursing spell doesn't need to be preformed for you to be reincarnated. He says it just takes longer. So hurry, we're all waiting for you." Kimikyo smiled gently at Aria before looking over at Azumiral, Preston and Jacob's shrine. Aria had wiped her tears away, before looking at Kimikyo. "When did Aunt Azumiral go?" "Soon after Jacob died...She was over taken by grief and her health just got worse and worse but I'm sure she's happier with them in the great forest in the sky." Aria and Kimikyo bowed to the shrines they visited before going home.
The two walked hand in hand back to the castle. "Mama...have you found him yet?" "I have. He was just born in the Commonwealth." Aria smiled gently. "I'm glad you didn't preform the cursing spell." "I'm glad too but I'm also so proud that you took initiative that day and taught me the location spell and informed me of the reincarnation." She smiled at her daughter. "I'm afraid that was all I could do. Before leaving I was sworn to secrecy. I can't teach any spells or potions I learned from the faes but I can preform them." "It was more than enough. So what will you do now that you're home?" Aria thought for a moment. "I was thinking maybe making a potions shop in the Commonwealth." "Oh...Aria dear, magic has been forbidden in the Commonwealth by Kai." "What?!" "Your brothers caused a lot of damage on day with it. It was an all out war there over eight hundred years ago." Kimikyo frowned. "What was the war over?" "There was a raider group from a place called Nuka World that thought the could take the Commonwealth. There were thousands of raiders that joined them in the attack so Owen and Roger launched their war. Kai and Kigra had to protect as many people as they could." "What about you?" "Who do you think stopped your brothers? They were in their beast forms by the time I got to them. I don't think I've ever seen so much blood and death." "What about the raiders?" "We were able to push them back to Nuka World where we banished them." "Banished them?" Kimikyo looked at Aria. "We severed there transportation to and from the Commonwealth. Kigra also put up a wall around it. They won't be able to return." Aria looked at the Castle that was before them. "After we buried all the people who died, raiders, soldiers and settlers alike...Kai took the two boys away. I've never seen him angry before but that day, I feared for them. He reprimanded them for what they did. Not so much for defending the Commonwealth but for the fact so many innocent people had died because of it." "People die in wars though." "Yes but they could have gotten a lot more people to safety before attacking. The Raiders weren't even off the beach before they started. Your brothers were sentenced to one year of exile for every innocent persons death." Aria looked at Kimikyo. "How long were they gone for?" "Five hundred years." "Oh lord!" Kimikyo couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. "You'll learn that it isn't very long."
The two had finally walked into the castle. Vaati had looked at Aria before sitting down. "Nice to see you back. " "Thanks, I'm glad to be back home." Kimikyo waited until Owen and Roger had joined them before speaking to her children. "As I've told you before, your father has been reborn through normal reincarnation. I have decided I am going to go back to the Commonwealth." "Mom..?" Roger looked at her. "What if he falls in love with someone else?" "As long as I can at least befriend him, that'll be good enough for me." "How are you going to do that? You're old and didn't he just get reborn?" Kimikyo stared at Owen with an annoyed look. "Excuse you? I am not old." "You're over a thousand years old. We're all old!" Kimikyo flicked Owen's forehead. "All the same. I've been practicing a transformation spell that will allow me to look younger so that I can grow up with him again." "Mom...this is just going to cause you to be hurt again. Shouldn't you maybe move on? Find someone here to grow old with." Owen was rubbing his forehead where he was flicked. "I'm going to have to agree with Owen, mama." Aria looked at her. "I mean what about Hancock? You were good friends with him weren't you?" "Just because we're friends doesn't mean we'll be a good couple besides he's got a girl right now." "Then why not Haku?" Kai had appeared behind her, wrapping his arms around her. "Haku...the ex-captain of the royal guard?" "Yea!" "He's got a husband." "Oh yea...I never see his husband so I always forget. I should send them a happy marriage card." Kimikyo pinched the bridge of her nose. "Enough of this. I'm doing this whether any one likes it or not."
Ten years had passed since that night. Kimikyo casted the spell to make herself look like a child before going through the portal. She found the ten year reincarnated Maxson. He was not at all shockingly, at the Citadel, training to be a Brotherhood of Steel soldier. She stood bear the building watching Maxson run around and play with the other squires. A paladin had walked up to her behind her. "Are you lost little one?" She turned around to see the paladin taking their helmet off. "I...uhm..." She was at a loss of words before Owen walked up behind her. "There you are. Thank you for finding my little sister, Paladin. She is wanting to join the ranks." "And you are?" Owen looked down at Kimikyo. "Owen Hokkadoshi. A descendent of the Commonwealth Brotherhood division." "Oh! You're Arthur's boy right then this must be little Aria." Kimikyo and Owen looked at the paladin be it hit her who they were. "Mai?" "That's right but how....oh great divines, Kimikyo?" "This is where you've been this whole time?!" Owen cleared his throat. "Right, Owen this is Mai she use to be my lady in waiting but I though you went back to Mudos?" "Nope. I've been living here. I keep de-aging myself acting as my own daughter but why are you here? Why not the Commonwealth division?" Owen looked at Mai. "Because Arthur died and reincarnated. Mom is here on a crazy, mid-life crisis thinking she can relive her life with him." "O-oh...I see...Owen could you give us a moment?" "Sure." Owen had took this opportunity to go to a nearby caravan to gather some foods he enjoyed. "Prin-Queen Kimikyo if I may. This is a bad idea. You know the saying...those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it again. Well...our influence here was never meant to be. There are anomalies happening as if this world is in a time loop." "What do you mean?" "I mean the portal from before caused this place to be stuck in a loop with it resetting every few hundred years but something is always different. For this place to grow and progress. We all need to leave. We need to erase La Tempo's influence." Kimikyo looked at Mai then towards Maxson. "But...I just got him back..." "I know and I'm sorry my queen but are you willing to risk everyone's freedom to progress in this world for one man?" "No...I don't think I can." "I've almost removed all information from the terminals here after that, La Tempo can be wiped from their minds." Kimikyo nodded to Mai. "Then...until then might it be okay I go to him? I just want a little more time with him." "I don't see why not. I will inform Owen of everything."
Kimikyo walked over to the squires, nervous to talk to the child that was once Maxson. The squires looked at her before he walked up to her. "Who are you?" She opened her mouth before closing it again. "What deathclaw got your tongue?" She nodded to him before sighing her name. "Oh? Are you mute, I've never met a person you can't talk before! Well I'm Arthur Maxson! I come from the great line of Maxson's!" Kimikyo teared up as she thought on Mai's words. The child before her was truly her Maxson and not a reincarnation. "Hey, are you okay?" She balled over crying over the fact that he was standing before her. Sara Lyons had walked over to her, rubbing her back. "Arthur, what did you do?" "I didn't do anything! She just started crying." "Hey there...are you okay, sweetie?" Kimikyo looked at Sara before rushing over to Maxson, clinging to him. "Well....this is new." Sara laughed lightly as Maxson tried to get away from Kimikyo.
Owen had went to La Tempo to inform Kai about what Mai had told him. Kai had informed Owen to go back and help Mai and to keep an eye on Kimikyo. As the years continued to pass Maxson quickly climbed the ranks as he once did. Kimikyo had followed behind him with only being a rank below him. Mai had came to Kimikyo one day, explaining they were ready to wipe La Tempo from the Commonwealth. "I'm sorry Kimikyo...but it's time." "R-right. Give me one day please, to say goodbye." Mai nodded to her. Kimikyo went directly to Maxson. He looked over at her, noticing something was wrong. "You okay?" "I'm fine..." This caught him off guard as she never spoke to him before. "I'm sorry...I just..." She teared up. "This might sound crazy Arthur but...this is my only chance to tell you. I'm from a place called La Tempo...you and I met once before there and-" "We use to be married." Kimikyo looked at him with shock in her eyes. "Kimi, I've known that forever." "A-Arthur..." He smiled at her. "I remembered my past life years ago before you even showed back up. Why do you think I made sure you stayed close to me?" She wrapped her arms around him, sobbing into his chest. He ran his hand through her hair. "Kimikyo, tell me what's wrong." "I have to leave and...and I can't come back." "Then I'll go with you." "I'm sorry my king, but you can't. You have to stay here and live your life with out me so that history doesn't repeat and your world can move on." She looked up at him. "This...this is our last day together so please...let's just stay like this for as long as we can." Arthur nodded to her, holding her as he once use to. They spent their last day together doing everything two teenagers in the wasteland could do.
As the sun rose Owen went to find Kimikyo and Maxson. The two had watch the sunset the day before, having fallen asleep under a tree. Owen carefully lifted her in his arms causing Maxson to wake up. "Owen." This caused Owen to freeze in his place. "I know you placed a sleeping spell on her. Tell Aria and Roger I'm pride of who you all became." "Dad?" Maxson nodded to him. "And tell your mom that she can move on from me. I know you won't be able to return. Please stay safe and give everyone hugs for me." "I will dad." Maxson stood up, walking over to Kimikyo to give her a final kiss goodbye, then patter Owen on the back. "You should get going. "I love you son." "I love you too dad." Owen was fighting back his tears before her got in the vertibird that Mai was piloting.
Once Owen had returned to La Tempo, Kai had stepped through. He transformed into his phoenix form to fly high in the sky. He cast the spell which caused a very bright light to engulf the wasteland, thus removing all traces of La Tempo from everyone's mind. He went back to La Tempo before the light faded. Kigra was stood at the portal with Roger and Aria to close it permanently. Kimikyo woke up in her bed with Owen siting next to her. "Owen?" "Mom...why didn't you tell me dad remembered us." "I only found out yesterday...and for once I wanted to be selfish." She sat up, hugging him. "He told me-" "I already know." Owen looked at her. "A sleep spell is baby magic, my little prince. I easily countered it, and pretended to sleep. I'm glad you came and not Mai. I was hoping you'd get to talk to him." Owen wrapped his arms around her, crying into her shoulder. She rubbed his back, smiling as she finally felt closure. Owen went to his siblings soon after to inform them of what Maxson said. Danse had found Kimikyo standing in the building that once held the portal. "Was I not supposed to go?" "That's the thing Danse....you are a synth. The...original Danse was still born and raised so you not being there...doesn't affect it's history. Had it been after you were switched then yes, you should have been there." "I see." "I'm sorry, that was harsh of me to say." "Think nothing of it. I heard what happened. I'm surprised he remembered everyone but glad you were able to have time with him again." Kimikyo smiled at Danse. "Thank you. I feel...better. It was the closure I needed to move on from the Wasteland." Danse and Kimikyo walked out of the building and towards the castle. "So what do you plan on doing now?" "I don't know...maybe I learn how to travel between universes. Imagine a universe where I'm born in the Commonwealth." She joked. "Yea and you'll be part deathclaw?" "Maybe!" The two laughed at the idea.
-The End-

seas who could sing so deep and strong [59]
“Persephone,” Judge groans as she hands over some materials to Master Teasonai. “Just because I’m repurposing a moa doesn’t mean you get to bring a condroc onto your ship.”
Kore’s crouched down among the many, many condroc cages, head tilting back and forth as her shining black Saryn optic plate examines the many mean looking birds.
“I’m getting a condroc, I’m putting it on my orbiter; I will love it and feed it and bring it out for exercise and I will teach it to hone in on my enemies and rip their flesh off their bones,” Kore says, “The question is - which one of you beautiful, beautiful creatures is the first?”
“You aren’t getting more than one,” Judge says.
“At the same time, no,” Kore says, “But later, after the first one is settled…they’ll need kin to talk to. I imagine it must be very, very tedious to be the only creature of your species in an enclosed space.”
“Persephone, for several years you were the only tenno in your own life,” Judge points out.
“That’s different,” Kore waves her hand and raises up a little to investigate some of the condroc cages hanging from the tent ceiling. “You’re comparing norgs and lungfish.”
Judge is about to argue that it is not different at all when he sees a flash of familiar violent pink out of the corner of his Nova’s field of vision. He turns his head and sees Chic’s Trinity briskly walking behind Alpha’s regal white and blue Oberon.
“Oh, hey - “ Judge calls out, sending a hail to their frequencies as he waves at them.
Chic waves at him and quickly gestures for him to follow her, but runs into Alpha’s back with a startled yelp when Alpha stops walking right in the middle of the spaces between vendor stalls.
Alpha is staring at something ahead and Judge turns around to try and see what he’s looking at.
And his heart stops in his chest.
“Operator!?!?” Scylla’s voice immediately yells at him, voice glitching in and out with stress. “Your vitals! Operator!”
“Kore,” Judge wheezes, Nova’s hand reaching towards Kore’s Saryn blindly, and just getting air. “Kore.”
“What?” Kore asks, sounding like she’s not really paying attention.
Judge just wheezes because…
It’s her.
Through the crowds of Cetus there is a black and red Saryn striding towards Alpha. A black and red Saryn Prime. And as the frame draws closer Judge can see the sigil on its chest, and he can see the elegant flare of its syndana and he can see the stoic and proud Helminth Charger sedately following at its side and he can also see that in one hand the frame is dragging Punk’s blue and yellow Ember behind it.
Chic taps Judge and Kore into her audio feed.
Punk is groaning.
The Saryn, with almost no effort, throws the Ember at Alpha.
Alpha catches Punk, immediately pours him out onto the ground - Punk groans even louder as he’s deposited at Chic’s feet - and goes to meet the Saryn.
“This one is done,” the Empress announces into the feed. “I’ll have to wait for him to recharge before I use him again, I suppose.”
Alpha and Empress stand so close that the chests of their warframes touch and the skirts of Alpha’s Oberon curl around Saryn’s legs with the light breeze that blows through Cetus.
Judge’s Nova continues to try and grasp Kore’s hand.
Scylla is still having a fit over the fact that Judge isn’t breathing. Parts of Judge are also having a fit over the fact that he’s holding his breath because he’s too terrified to breathe.
He doesn’t know why his void nightmares and poisoning don’t have him hallucinate the Empress to scare him. It would work approximately one hundred percent of the time.
Then again, maybe the void ghosts and poisons are too scared of the Empress to take her name and image in vain.
“Empress,” Alpha says.
“Alpha,” the Empress says back.
And Alpha slowly, agonizingly slowly, stretches his Oberon’s neck forward and touches his face-plate to the Empress’ Saryn’s.
The Empress coos a sound that might be a purr, might be a laugh, might be the end of the world.
Judge finally manages to let out a single wheeze and instantly the two warframes are staring at him across several yards as though he was right next to them.
If Judge were standing there in the flesh, his knees would probably have gone out. Lucky, he isn’t, and Nova’s limbs are locked.
“The stray,” the Empress says.
“I didn’t know,” Alpha replies.
And then the Empress’ head slowly turns and Judge knows that she’s looking at Kore.
“He found his partner,” the Empress says.
“Persephone,” Alpha answers.
The Empress makes another sound like the coming of death and starts walking towards them, Alpha at her heels.
Honestly?
Judge is still at least seventy eight percent terrified of Alpha, even though he knows that the tenno is gentle and worries about the food stores of the population of Cetus, adopts all the stray animals he can find, and often gives things away just because he has them and he feels that he should.
Judge will never, in any lifetime, overcome the absolute incomprehensible horror he has of the Empress. It just isn’t possible.
The Empress walks right past him up to Kore and somehow even though both Kore and the Empress are in Saryn Prime’s, it’s Empress who seems to take up all the space in Teasonai’s trading post.
“Hello, little sister,” the Empress says in a voice that reminds Judge of the underside of leaves, deceptively soft when they’re covered in barbs that are both buzzing and smooth. “I remember you.”
Persephone doesn’t say anything.
Judge tentatively turns around to look and Kore is frozen in place.
The Empress leans forward and bumps her Saryn’s horn against Kore’s.
“You are the only other Saryn Prime pilot I’ve met since our latest awakening,” the Empress says, “Most fortunate. It gladdens me that you find yourself again, and are awake to your potential.”
Persephone might as well be a rock. Judge tentatively pokes her with his void energy.
Nothing.
Did Kore leave her frame out of shock? Did transference snap? Is she just sitting in her Orbiter in silence?
“Hi,” Kore breathes out - startling Judge, Chic, and Punk (Punk, who revives enough to raise Ember’s head a little and go what) because she’s bypassed her frame’s voice synthesizer and is speaking with her actual voice. “Please take me as your student.”

Do You Believe In Fairies? [9/11]
Chapter Nine – Truth
Absolute silence filled the Court.
You lose.
The words echoed in Yuri's mind. He felt his knees wobble dangerously, and only Otabek's arm at his waist held him upright.
They had lost.
How could they have lost?
Should I win, I will take your Fae life and magick from you. You and yours will be banished from the Court, live out a mortal life, and die with your humans.
Yuri felt sick.
Remembering belatedly where he was, Yuri looked around the Court with wide, terrified eyes. Everyone that he had ever known looked on with mingled looks of shock and horror of their own, but Yuri knew better than to beseech them for help—no one was stupid or brave enough to stand against Viktor.
The horror-struck looks were mirrored on every face, except those of the kings, both of whom were smiling victoriously at Yuri, Otabek, and Guang-Hong.
Viktor took a purposeful step forward. Otabek immediately backed up and dragged Yuri with him. Yuri could feel his own body shaking, but at the same time he felt strangely disconnected from it, as though he were watching the scene, and not a part of it.
“I have won your challenge, Yuri, Fae Prince of the Plisetsky clan,” Viktor proclaimed, his voice strong, and carried to every corner of the Court, ensuring that none of the spectators missed even a syllable of his victory over Yuri. “In accordance with our agreement, I take from you now your magick and your immortal life. Furthermore, I banish you and yours forthwith from our realm...never to return.”
“N-No, K-King Oberon, please...” Yuri's voice escaped him as little more than a weakened, feeble plea, one which did not even cause Viktor to hesitate as he laid his hands upon either side of Yuri's head, and he twined his fingers through Yuri's hair. He offered Yuri one small smile, though Yuri could not tell whether it was meant to be one of triumph, or some sort of mocking false sympathy. Yuri felt Viktor's fingers press to his scalp, and he inhaled sharply as he braced himself for pain.
Yuri had always been told that losing one's magick was like the wort pain imaginable, multiplied tenfold.
And yet, somehow, it was infinitely worse.
Like skin being ripped from bone, or being set aflame, every part of him was in agony. He could feel hot tears on his cheeks as he lost his connections to the elements—he could not feel earth's sure footsteps, fire's intensity, water's ebb and flow, or air's gusts of life breathing into him. He could not feel the spirit's presence that surrounded her Fae kin; the Goddess of the Moon and the Horned God of the Sun turned their backs on him as the pain became truly unbearable, and blackness flooded his mind as he fainted.
~*~
The soft sound of crackling and popping filled Yuri's mind.
Black, but warm, and the sound was strangely comforting. He felt a soft warm weight resting over his body, but nothing else.
His connection to his magick was not there, and Yuri shivered a little at the pain of this loss, like the death of a friend.
Yuri's eyelids, heavy, slowly slid open.
Before him was a rustic, aged fireplace, with a dying fire in the grate. Yuri glanced down and saw that a heavy fur blanket had been draped over him. His head was propped up slightly on not a pillow, but a thigh, and he glanced up to see Otabek sitting up, but his head was tilted to the side, and he seemed to be fast asleep. Guang-Hong was curled up nearer to the fire with a blanket of his own, as though he both wished to give Yuri and Otabek their privacy, but longed to be close to them at the same time.
Yuri looked around the space, but remained as still as he could. He was uncertain where he was or how they'd gotten there, but it seemed to be a peasant home of some kind. It was homey, comfortable, and felt strangely familiar...
I'm in Otabek's home, Yuri thought with a sudden jolt. But how did I get here?
Yuri shifted slightly, and the small movement was enough to rouse Otabek. His eyes snapped open, and one of his hands fell to pet Yuri's hair gently.
“How do you feel, Yuri?” he asked softly, and Yuri immediately shut his eyes again. The softly spoken question brought everything rushing back, and he lifted a hand to rest it over his heart.
I'm dying.
The realization hit him like a blow to the chest, and he shuddered as anguished tears stung his eyes. Otabek did not hesitate, and drew Yuri into his arms. Yuri clung to him, his face buried in the crook of his neck, and Otabek did not speak as he held Yuri and he wept, his sobs soft and almost unheard in his effort to keep from rousing Guang-Hong.
“I can't feel anything...” Yuri mumbled into Otabek's shoulder, and clung to him harder. “How—how do you stand this? This disconnect from the Gods...how...” Yuri sniffed again, and Otabek rubbed his back gently.
“It's okay, just don't think about it...” Otabek murmured as he rocked him, childlike, and kissed his cheek. “I know it's hard, but it's not so bad, having a human life...”
“But, Otabek, I'm dying...”
“Wh-what?”
“I may have as little as fifty years left.”
Yuri hadn't been joking, and the prospect of such a short span utterly terrified him, but his proclamation made Otabek chuckle. He shifted, urging Yuri to look up at him, and he kissed him tenderly. Yuri returned it, though he couldn't quite see what was so funny about what he had said.
“Oh, Yuri,” Otabek whispered, his voice still laced with amusement, and the corner of his mouth twitched as though he was trying not to laugh. “Fifty years to a human is longer than you think. Maybe not as long as eternity, but certainly long enough to live a full life.”
“It doesn't feel like it,” Yuri mumbled, “and when I die, what comes after? I...I never had to worry about death before. Where will I go? Will you go there too?”
“No one knows,” Otabek replied as he moved to kiss Yuri's temple gently. “Some believe nothing comes after and we just...cease to exist. Others believe that our souls are transported to a paradise, or eternal torment, depending on what sort of life you led. Others still think of it as a halfway place between one life and the next.”
“I don't find that very reassuring...” Yuri pulled back from Otabek and stood up. His bones creaked and groaned unpleasantly. His back twinged with pain. It was sharper than any pain he had ever experienced before; it felt more real, now that he was mortal. Yuri began to pace before the dying fire, but the action quickly made him dizzy, and he sat back down with a soft huff. Yuri drew his knees to his chest, and stared at the glowing embers in the hearth.
Warm arms encircled him from behind, and Yuri watched as Otabek's legs gently bracketed his own. He leant back in the welcome embrace and closed his eyes.
Even with my life falling apart around me, he still finds a way to catch me.
“Tell me what you need, Yuri,” Otabek murmured, and pressed a soft kiss to the side of his throat. “Whatever you need to smile again, I will do it. Immortal or mortal, I still love you.”
The words were strong and unwavering in their certainty. Yuri found some comfort in that; the knowledge that Otabek still cared for him was reassuring, but still left him feeling incomplete and strangely hollow. To his statement, Yuri had no idea what to say, and for a long moment he was quiet, one hand curled around Otabek's wrist, begging him to stay with him.
“I need time, I think,” Yuri said at last, and nearly laughed out loud at the ridiculous irony of the statement. “I need to accustom myself to this life, and find my place in it, whatever that might be.”
Otabek's arms tensed around him, and his lips ghosted over the hollow of Yuri's throat.
“I will wait for you.”
~*~
After Yuri's little outburst when he'd first woken up after losing his magick, he felt painfully cut off from the world he loved so much. He could not call the elements to him, or contact the sprites, he could not dance on moonbeams or rejuvenate dying flora, he could access none of his magick.
He knew that Guang-Hong was experiencing something similar, but given that he bore no power like the Fae did, his pain was different. Yuri saw him gazing towards the edges of town with a homesick longing, and more than once he and Yuri had embraced each other and wept at the horrible loss of their home.
Most perplexing to Yuri was how short a day was for a human, and they spent so much of it sleeping. A Fae needed an hour or two at most in the twilight or predawn hours to properly rest themselves, while others rarely bothered with sleep at all, and instead built it up until they would lie down and sleep for a decade or two in peace.
To sleep for seven to ten hours, every night, without fail, was utterly baffling to Yuri. When Yuri had chosen to share this finding with Otabek, he was met with amused laughter, and Yuri frowned at him.
“Oh, don't be a sourpuss,” Otabek said gently as he stole a kiss, “I think it's cute, I'm not laughing at you.”
“Yes you are,” Yuri countered sulkily as he shifted closer to the wall and away from Otabek in their narrow bed. “You are laughing at something I said. Generally, that means you're laughing at me.”
“Yes, but not to make fun of you, I am laughing because I find your learning of our simple human ways to be endearing, not because I think you are a fool.”
“I feel like a fool,” Yuri mumbled, “I know so little of human life, I didn't even know how much humans sleep.”
“Do you know how long bears sleep?”
Yuri blinked.
“I have no idea,” Yuri replied as he stared with confusion at Otabek. “Why?”
“They sleep all through the winter, and wake with the spring.”
“Fascinating.”
“Do you feel foolish for not knowing that particular fact?” Otabek asked innocently as he reached for Yuri, and twined his fingers with the blond's.
“Not really, no,” Yuri replied with a vague shrug.
“Then don't feel foolish,” Otabek said with a gentle firmness in his voice. “This is a whole new culture for you, and I have a lifetime to teach you all about the idiosyncrasies of human life.”
Yuri smiled a little, and felt some of his embarrassment leave him. He shifted back to Otabek, and smiled warmly at the gentle, familiar weight of the human's—fellow human's, he reminded himself—arm as it settled across his hips. He cuddled close to him, and tried to sleep.
The days passed slowly for Yuri, and with each rising and setting of the sun, he swore to explore this human life beyond his connection to Otabek, but he could never quite manage it. Guang-Hong seemed happy to explore and spent many days in the village square and at the market. Sometimes he went with Otabek, or Yuri, or both, and other times he went alone, but he seemed to be acclimating to human life once more as though he'd never left it.
Yuri found it more difficult to find a place that could potentially be his. It had barely been half a week, and already he was longing for the lush greenery of the Fae Court. He'd entertained the notion of leaving for Otabek once upon a time, but to be banished was infinitely worse.
He wanted to go home.
~*~
A few days later, Yuri found himself gazing upon a familiar sight.
Overall, the flatlands looked no different to his mortal eyes, but Yuri could not see the magick of the wood. It was without aura or power—he could feel none of it. This knowledge further proved that all his magick was gone, and there was no hope of recovering it.
Yuri stopped upon the absolute edge of the forest and did not dare go any further. He may have been prince by blood, but now as nothing more than a human—Viktor and Yuuri could ensnare him if they wished, dragging him back to the fold, but enchanted and at their mercy.
He'd sooner hack off his own leg than allow himself to be subjugated like that.
Yuri's hand hovered over the edges of the trees, trying to feel the magick that he knew was there, while not quite having the nerve to touch them. Quite suddenly the lush foliage rustled, and Yuri jumped backward with a sharp gasp of alarm.
Out from the trees walked a lynx. A proud tom, with lush fur and sharp, keen eyes. It sat down and regarded Yuri in silence. To any human, such an action by a wild animal would be startling, maybe even frightening, but Yuri found himself wholly unafraid. This was atypical behaviour for a Fae inhabiting the form of an animal. Yuri was on his guard, but felt no fear as he regarded it. After a moment of silence, it opened its mouth and spoke.
“Hello, Yuri,” it said in a voice that Yuri recognized at once, and one that he had not heard in many, many years.
“G-Grandpa?” Yuri asked, his eyes widening as he took a quick, startled step back. The house of Plisetsky was known for its affinity with cats, something the houses of Nikiforov and Katsuki did not share. If this were a trick from one of them, he knew it would have come in the form of a wolf or fox, not a feline. That alone told him that it was very unlikely to be a trick of some kind. “I...but how? The present king laid claim to the throne and banished you to the Grey Twilight. You should not be here.”
“I haven't long on this plain of existence,” the lynx said, “it is my time to join with the Spirit, become one with the God and Goddess, and take my place amongst them once more.”
“Why have you come?” Yuri asked, “it takes great power to assume such a form after banishment.”
“I must speak to you,” he said in his even, gentle tone that Yuri had always known, but there was a note of urgency to his voice that was impossible to miss. “I have watched over you, unable to interfere directly, ever since Viktor took the throne from me. I have done what I can to protect you, and swayed his decisions when I could—not an easy feat, for he is strong, and I am weakened in this state. But I must tell you that it was I who forced his hand to banish you with your lover and your friend by your side, and not he himself who made that choice.”
“You?” Yuri asked, his voice dropping to a horrified whisper. “But...why? Why would you condemn me to this life?”
“You must think hard on who Viktor is, and what he is capable of,” Nikolai said seriously. “He is a brutal king, the most vindictive we have seen in many millennia. He does not understand compassion, nor living in harmony with the humans. That arrogance and disregard for mortal life will one day be his undoing. Until then, I strove to protect you. Had I not, Viktor was intending to banish you as he had me, reduce you to little more than a spirit, only able to observe, never to watch, or touch. It is as close as we Fae come to a true death. He had many plans for your humans, in particular young Otabek. You know how intoxicating his seductions can be, your lover would have no hope of fighting it.
“Instead I chose to use what little power I still possess, and sway his decision. Like an advisor whispering in his ear, I laid the implication in his mind that to banish you, mortal, with your humans was a perfect punishment. In such a state you would die while he lives, but pose no threat to his position as king.”
The lynx bowed its head.
“I am sorry that I have done this to you, my grandson,” he said sadly. “I saw no alternative to save you and your loved ones. I have given you one life, a mortal life, but so too have I given you someone to spend it with, someone who cares for you as much, if not more, than I ever did. Otabek loves you with all his heart, and I foresee only purity in his love. He will never hurt you.”
“You have seen this?” Yuri asked, and the lynx nodded its head.
“I have. To gaze into the future can be most unwise, but I have done so. If you stay in the village, your life will be hard at first, but in time, you will know joy. It is your Otabek who can give it to you. Do not abandon him; he needs you as much as you need him. You two are two halves of a whole; made for each other, be it mortal or immortal, you two must never be parted. That way lies only sorrow and grief. I have taken your immortal life, yes, but I have given you something greater, something few people, Fae or Human, can lay claim to—true love.”
Yuri felt hot tears on his cheeks, but for once, they were tears of joy, not sadness.
It was still difficult to see past his own anguish to feel a sense of gratitude for his grandfather's interference. He meant well, and he had taken away something of Yuri's, something he did not know he would miss until it was gone, but he was given something much greater in the process—Otabek.
“Thank you, Grandpa,” Yuri said, his voice shaking a little as he stepped forward and stroked the lynx gently. “You have given me something infinitely precious, and I will be forever grateful for it.” He paused, and pressed a kiss to the top of the cat's head. “Go now, be at peace.”
The lynx bowed its head, and a gentle breeze kicked up around them. It tousled Yuri's hair, and lifted the lynx's fur gently. Yuri watched silently as the image of the lynx dissolved into glimmering dust, like starlight, and was carried away on the wind.
“Live with love, my grandson.”
The voice floated back to him, and Yuri angled his gaze skyward.
“I will, Grandfather.”
Yuri stared at the spot his grandfather had sat for a long moment before he moved slowly and reluctantly to the riverside, crouched down, and splashed the cool water on his face. The action both helped to calm him and aided in masking some of the evidence that he had been crying. He did not wish to be questioned by Guang-Hong or Otabek—it was not that he wished to lie to them in the strictest sense, but this time, Yuri wanted to keep this particular encounter to himself. Perhaps one day he'd tell Otabek, but for now he would keep this last memory of Nikolai Plisetsky close to his heart.
After he was fairly certain that he did not look like he'd been out on his own wallowing in the loss of his immortality, he stood up with a renewed sense of purpose. Yuri turned and headed back towards the town with one goal in mind—
He needed to find Otabek.
~*~
It did not take Yuri very long to make it back to the Altin forge, and even at a distance he could see Matyash before the fire, red sparks flying as he pounded upon some sort of red-hot metal. He did not even look up as Yuri passed and made for the house. Indeed, since the family had awoken that first morning, only Otabek's mother, Olga, seemed comfortable enough to speak to him. His younger sisters and father appeared too dazzled by his presence to say so much as two words to him, but he supposed that that would change in time.
“Mrs Altin,” Yuri said with a short bow as he stepped inside and spotted her chopping vegetables for lunch. She smiled at him warmly and waved him off.
“Please, call me Olga, dear boy. Such formality is unnecessary,” she said with a warm smile. “Are you looking for my son?” Yuri nodded, and she chuckled. “I assumed as much. He made mention of going with your friend, Guang-Hong, into town. I believe they were headed for the village square—there is a bookshop there that I swear that boy spends half his life in.”
“Thank you Mrs—Olga,” he corrected himself, and jerked forward a little as he curbed his impulse to bow again. She offered him another smile and waved vaguely towards the door in a move that clearly said, go on.
Yuri accepted this bit of silent advice, and hastened towards the door and back outside.
So close to noon, the square was teeming with people, all of whom seemed to slow down and watch Yuri for a moment before going about their business once more.
Yuri knew that they did not know what he once was. Otabek had been convinced that there would be pandemonium if it got out that he was formerly Fae, and thus had instructed his family to be silent on the details of Yuri's origins. The looks of the townspeople, Yuri assumed, were derived not from any sort of wild rumour, but simply from the fact that he was a stranger. This was not a large town by any means, a place where obviously everyone knew everyone, and so a strange face would invariably stand out amongst the crowds.
Ignoring it as best he could, Yuri crossed the square to a little shop called Smith Books, with a display of dusty volumes stacked haphazardly in the window. Just as he reached it, Otabek and Guang-Hong stepped out, surprisingly with no purchases in hand.
“Yuri!” Otabek cried as he spotted him, and hurried over to him. “You're back.”
“I am,” Yuri replied, and leant in to kiss him. Otabek immediately returned it, while both ignored the soft gasps and hissing whispers of the villagers who spotted them. At this, Otabek let out a soft groan.
“Did I do something wrong?” Yuri asked, careful to keep his voice low, but he smiled when he felt one of Otabek's arms wrap around his waist, and his palm pressed firmly into his spine.
“No,” he replied, “it's just that the scandal of seeing me with a stranger when it's common knowledge that the prince of our land has been courting me for months will create a ridiculous stir, and likely he will wish to come and see for himself who has ensnared me, to use his sort of phrasing.”
“Will you be punished for it?” Yuri asked as his arms reached out to mirror Otabek's, and he wrapped them securely around the other man's waist, drawing him a little closer.
“No,” Otabek replied with a small chuckle. “We were not officially courting, so it's not like I was being unfaithful to him. Mostly, he would buy lavish gifts for me in an effort to win my affections, and every time he tried to court me in a more official manner, I would turn him down.”
“I'm glad you did,” Yuri purred, and leant in for another kiss. “I'm not willing to share you.” Yuri smiled when Otabek flushed an attractive red, and he could not help but kiss him again. “Come for a walk with me? I wish to speak to you where we won't be overheard.”
“Of course,” Otabek said at once, then turned to Guang-Hong, his expression apparently caught in how to dismiss him politely, but the former Companion got there first.
“I will see you two back at the house, I will let Olga know where you have gone,” he said with a short bow to Yuri, and he did not bother to correct him. It would be a learning curve for both of them, now that they were equals.
When Guang-Hong walked off, Yuri moved to take one of Otabek's hands. The man seemed happy to allow Yuri to lead, and followed the blond through the square and out of the borders of the village, but nowhere near the forest. Yuri would have liked to have done this where they had first met, but the danger of being caught by his former kin was too great, and Yuri refused to risk it. Instead, he slowed to a stop by the river, and took both of Otabek's hands in his own.
“Otabek,” Yuri began, “I know that these last days I've been...somewhat selfish. I've lamented over my loss of my eternal life, and I have been so busy mourning over what I no longer have that I did not stop to look at what I still have.” Yuri paused, and lifted his gaze to Otabek's dark eyes. His head was cocked ever so slightly to the side as he listened, his expression curious as he silently motioned for Yuri to continue. “My life is not as empty as I first assumed, now that I do not have years beyond count to watch the world grow old. I have so much—more than I thought I had.
“I have one life now, and there are many ways I could spend it,” Yuri continued, his eyes dropping to their intertwined hands for a moment before he returned his gaze to meet Otabek's. “Just one life to live,” he repeated, “if I were to spend it with anyone, I'd choose to spend it with you...if you like.”
Otabek's lips parted in quiet surprise, and Yuri watched spots of colour appear high upon his cheeks as Yuri dropped to one knee, their hands still clasped together.
“Otabek, will you...” Yuri dug into his memory for the human word, “...will you marry me?”
Otabek blinked his eyes a few times in quick succession as they grew shiny, and a warm smile spread across his face. He tugged Yuri to his feet without a word, and kissed him tenderly.
“As if I'd ever say no,” he murmured against Yuri's mouth, and they both laughed softly, with tears of joy as their lips met again in another kiss.
Perhaps a mortal life wouldn’t be so bad, after all.

Chapter 10: Enchantra
As they enter the Kingdom of Enchantra, Genevieve's eyes are filled with awe and wonder. The houses are a marvel to behold—constructed from toadstools, nestled in tree trunks, carved out of rocks for hobbits, gnomes, and goblins. There are even houses made from pumpkins, flowers, and oversized leaves. The pathways are paved with smooth stones from the rivers of Avalon. As they walk, the bustling marketplace unfolds before them, filled with chattering folk, merchants, and the delightful commotion of a vibrant community.
Genevieve is overwhelmed by the sounds and smells that surround her, but as they reach the end of the marketplace, she gasps in delight and surprise. A magnificent castle, emanating beauty and grandeur, comes into view. The castle is surrounded by expansive gardens that are open to the public.
Curiosity fills Genevieve's voice as she turns to Ash. "Are non-Royals allowed to wander the Royal Gardens?"
Ash smiles softly, chuckling lightly. "Yes, Genevieve. King Oberon and Queen Titania are incredibly generous Royals. They see no distinction between Fae, Folk, or Creatures. We are all equals in their eyes. Even the servants are well-respected when they enter the Castle. However, I must warn you that Kendra might seem cold to you. She doesn't mean to be, but after being in so many battles..."
Intrigued, Genevieve prods him, "Well, what about Kendra, Prince Ash?"
Ash looks at her with a hint of sadness in his eyes. "It's not my place to say, Kin of Merlin."
Before they can delve further into their conversation, a call from the gardens interrupts them.
"Hey! Stop in the name of Queen Titania, King Oberon, Prince, and Princess!"
Ash smiles at Genevieve, gesturing toward the approaching figure. "Speaking of Kendra, here she comes."
Kendra, a formidable figure with blonde hair braided and scars marking her face, approaches them. She looks at Genevieve with a cold gaze before bowing to Ash. "Your Highness, Prince Ash, it's an honor to have you here. And who is this?"
Ash introduces Genevieve. "Kendra, this is Genevieve, Merlin's Granddaughter and our savior to the Otherworld."
Genevieve bows her head respectfully. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kendra. I've heard about your many battles."
Kendra's eyes turn cold as she looks at Genevieve, but then her gaze lands on the glowing necklace. She gasps in realization. "So, the necklace does exist. And if you're wearing it, then you truly are Merlin's Granddaughter. Come quickly, we must get you to the King and Queen, though I hate to disturb the Queen while she's recovering from birth."
Genevieve's eyes light up with excitement. "Birth? The Queen has a baby?"
Kendra bursts into laughter, and Ash joins in. Genevieve looks at them, confused. "What did I say that was funny?"
Kendra, now warmed up to Genevieve, chuckles. "Not just one baby, but two. Twins."
A radiant smile spreads across Genevieve's face. "Twins! How wonderful."
Ash, with a fond expression, reassures Genevieve. "Oh, you will meet them, Genevieve, trust me."
Genevieve beams at him. "I do trust you."
Kendra offers to take over from there, and Ash agrees, handing Genevieve's deer's reins to him. "Thank you, Kendra. I must return before the hunt begins. They've been quite persistent lately."
Kendra's face fills with anger. "The fourth time in the last six suns! The hunts and raids are becoming bolder and bolder. They need to be stopped."
Ash nods in agreement. "Yes, they are getting too bold."
Genevieve feels uncertain about parting ways with Ash, but he reassures her. "You'll be safe with Kendra. She'll protect you with her life."
Genevieve dismounts from her deer, handing the reins to Ash, who takes them with a nod. She watches as Ash turns the deer around and rides away, her eyes following him until he disappears from sight. Kendra puts a guiding hand on Genevieve's shoulder, gently urging her forward.
"Come, Genevieve. We must get you presentable for the King and Queen of the Fae World," Kendra says, leading her towards the castle.
Genevieve nods, her excitement mingled with a touch of nervousness. She follows Kendra, her mind filled with anticipation for the meeting with the King and Queen and the prospect of seeing the newborn twins. As they walk through the magnificent gardens, Genevieve can't help but feel a sense of wonder and gratitude for the magical world she has stepped into.

More than Kin, More than Kind
continued from here w/ @thexforgottenxones
“Gentlemen, gentlemen... A nun? One would hope you’d at least work your way up from little old lady and preschool teacher. Really, attacking a nun?” Puck had no weight here. He was fired. Oberon made it clear that he knew about the affair. Besides, the curse had wiped their slates clean and had turned Puck into a high school English professor. He was hardly intimidating anymore. He pulled himself immediately to Sister Astrid’s side and eyed the knife in the other fairy’s hand. So this is what they were up to... It would be finishing the “culling”. Astrid had a mark on her that she couldn’t remove with any amount of soap or holy water. “You know that’s not really fair. If I said to pick on someone your own size, you’d have to go pound sand.” So was drawn the trickster’s smile. His hands went up, indicating he was unarmed. “Now that you’re paying attention... Mother Superior will be missing this one. Mother Superior has the entire town on her side. Do you really want that sort of war started? If it’s war you want, war you get.” The aging fairy looked over his shoulder to the nun. “ If things get sour, I’m gonna take your hand and we’re gonna bolt. We’re gonna duck between your car and the one next to it and get out of here. I won’t let you go, okay?” His whispered words were a promise...an oath. His blue eyes were kind and while they were urging that she trust him, they were filled with hope that she try and do so. For all the rumors spoken about the old spirit, he seemed rather comforting, even if he did tease in the face of death.
