Do you think the WGGB will follow suit with strike action? I’ve seen on their website that they’re advising their members to comply with the strike in areas under WGA’s jurisdiction but I doubt writers’ rights are much better in the UK (especially as most of the big streaming companies are international)
Per the WGGB website's FAQs on the strike:
WILL WGGB MEMBERS GO ON STRIKE IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE WGA?
Trade union legislation is very different in the UK.
Secondary strike action (action in support of another union or group of workers) is not permitted under UK law, nor is the practice of restricting employment to those who are members of a particular trade union.
UK writers can take other action in support of the WGA, for example, taking part in protests or demonstrations that do not fall under the definition of ‘picketing’. In solidarity with our sister union and members in the US, WGGB will be demonstrating our support throughout the strike – keep an eye on our news section for more detailed announcements and how you can get involved.
And it is important to point out that WGGB has other forms of leverage to effect wins for its members (see ‘issues affecting writers’ below).
Everything a UK writer would need to know about the strike, how to support it and what writers can and can't do is at: https://writersguild.org.uk/wga-strike/

This is a true story of my oc lucas in real life.
My class lesson is now a DnD yes, it is DnD but with science maybe because it is interesting and probably fun and a lesson in the DnD, we are drawing a character based on creativity, curiosity, strength, objectivity and... I forgot the last one but I chose strength and use lucas because that can be a good use but then the chances and the bad luck, and the riggings of the dice. He got hurt by a wolf!! A wolf!!! And he died... Well passed out but still! He lost his pride, I lost my pride but to make me feel better about this. I draw Lucas with WGBB and WGGB playing with Lucas and Lucas decide to play dead because of his strength and don't want to make things two ruff but still they both have fun.
... I really need to give bad blood and good blood real first names.

Growing into the Job, Post 436: GRWM Marta
Marta Vacek aka “Marta Walker” aka Agent 0GGB004 had not been able to get Melissa Monroe out of her head since she had visited WGGB last weekend. Though she had known Melissa was to come in preparation for the special interview and meet the team, Marta, Channel 5’s newest Sports Reporter, had not been prepared for the involuntary reaction she’d had to the brunette bombshell. Her sister had been right.
Over the past year-and-a-half, both in Russia and in her native Poland, the Vacek sisters had been prepped, conditioned, and ultimately put together, developed and assembled into proper agents for the company. Injected with their Program and fully indoctrinated into their ranks, trained and fashioned, Marta had grown four inches in height, ballooned into a GG-cup, and could now bend steel bars like it was a party trick. She knew she had been chosen for her current on-air assignment purely due to the mathematics of her new figure: scientifically proven and formulated to be the most captivating to the American male gaze. In both its ratios and proportions, it had been perfected to hold a male's attention onscreen, while at the same time, being just this side of acceptable for a general viewing audience without being relegated to the porn channels or MSIT.
The only thing Marta felt moderately unprepared for in her new role as an eyeball-magnet sports reporter was, well…sports. American sports still flummoxed her - what was this ‘football’? This bassball? Silly little games for silly little American men. Whatever it was, it was something she could blithely breathe through on air, feeding her viewers with whatever the teleprompter showed her as a side dish to her hourglass torso. Her real purpose was to keep the American eyeballs in the local viewing area plastered on her 5’11”, 44-26-36 figure while she kept her own eyes on Alicia Ray, the provincial former beauty-queen chosen to be the center of this WGGB Channel 5 hive, that would, soon enough, be moving on from their small local stage on to a much larger one. It was all thrilling, exciting, and though this was just an assignment, yes, she figured she could have some fun here while doing it.
Like tonight. Marta had this event to go to, a grand opening for a new puppet facility. She’d been briefed. Coronado had sent a new platoon of Program girls, one of the largest yet, to work this new outpost medical center. Like Marta with Alicia Ray, these girls should be largely immune to the more invasive psychological tendrils of the Monroe woman’s influence, but, with the feelings Marta was dealing with now, how being in that tall brunette’s presence for just those several minutes last weekend had affected her, it made her think they would want her to keep a watchful eye on everything going on tonight. As tedious as that seemed though, she knew there would be vodka, and cameras, and her breasts were enormous…so she couldn't help but be excited.
Yes, she’d been told to keep an eye on the new girls, each an agent, on their first real night of exposure to the Monroe pheromones. Marta would keep an eye on Melissa herself of course, try to glean if the rumors about her were true. It was being said that she was not only ballooning in height, figure, and strength, but that she’d been developing unpredictable abilities they hadn’t foreseen. There were those overseas, she knew, that were starting to consider Melissa an unwitting threat, that possibly feared what her growing influence might accomplish. Marta knew that she would be called on to report what she saw tonight, possibly directly back to Kazakhstan, so she needed to stay vigilant, but that didn't mean she couldn’t look good while doing so. She admired herself in this perfectly too-tight red dress procured specifically for that purpose.
As she studied herself in the mirror her mind inevitably went back to Melissa, this odd fixation as of late. Yes, there was part of her that was wary of Melissa Monroe, though, there was another part that pitied her. If what she’d read in the briefings was correct, Marta felt for the girl, understanding how hard it must be for someone to endure what she had been raised through, and from the youngest of ages. She was not an unwitting nor necessarily an unwilling participant in the whole experiment, but her road had clearly not been easy.
Beyond all the sympathy and pity she felt though, or maybe just buried deeper, there was another part of Marta that was lured to the woman, that wanted to be close to her and to witness her, and maybe be witnessed by her in return. She understood now what Katarina had been telling her, how powerful the magnetism of Melissa was. Strange, these urges; as much as they thrilled her, she knew she would need to keep them leashed as tight as she could. She could speak to her sister about them tonight.
Marta knew that her own complicated feelings reflected the entire viewing area’s feelings as a whole. Some fear, some curiosity, and…something deeper, something magnetic all clashing and the only way for her to sort it all out was to see what happened tonight.
At least I’ll look good doing it, she concluded, admiring herself one last time in the mirror…

Hi! I want to become a narrative designer but I'm not sure from where to start nor where to find positions to apply to. I have created 2 games in the past with branching narratives but I'm not sure if that's enough haha. Any tips?
Making games and building your portfolio is absolutely the first step so you're on the way! Every path into games is different because there's no standard way of doing it, but here are some useful resources:
Greg Buchanan on breaking into games
Writers' Guild of Great Britain YouTube channel has loads of recorded talks and roundtables from industry folks both about the craft of game writing and about the industry as a whole. Here's a playlist from their 2021 event and there's many more too.
In fact, on July 6 there's going to be a free WGGB online panel titled How to start and build a career in game narrative which will be right up your street!
Andrew Walsh often posts links to writing/ND jobs on Twitter (I know, Twitter, gross...)
As does Mitch Sabbagh
The Work With Indies job site and discord are also good to check out
When applying, PLEASE make sure to check the company on Glassdoor if it's on there. If possible, reach out to people already working there (or who previously worked there) to test the waters. Best to go in with a clear sense of what you're doing and make sure the company is worth your time and effort!

with the writers strike starting now i wonder how long we'll have to wait for the content we love. i hope it gets resolved soon because you don't have a project if you don't have a script and they have paused all productions. hopefully we'll still get loki this year.
It’s so tough to say right now. Fingers crossed for Loki S2, though that will also depend on the JM situation.
TWD will definitely be on pause. I’m not 100% sure about TNM 2, because it’s a BBC/Amazon combo, so not sure how that will fit into the agreement WGGB have to support WGA. Afaik, David Farr isn’t a WGA member, he wasn’t in 2016, but that may have changed.
I could see quite a few actors heading to stage productions, tbh.

I want to be a professional writer someday… should I join a Union?
When you become a professional writer you should definitely join whatever organization best serves your interests. For SF and Fantasy authors in the US, for example I'd recommend the SFWA. If you're in the UK I'd suggest the Society of Authors. If you become a screenwriter the WGA (or the WGGB) are excellent. There are other organizations out there. Some of them are unions, most of of them are more akin to trade associations, which tends to have a lot to do with laws on what and how you can unionize.

1966 has been a unanimous upset since the beginning of this project, so I've been excited to get to it.
Religious biography A Man for All Seasons was crowned Best Picture over the heavily nominated film adaptation of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Consider any time you've ever heard of or thought about A Man for All Seasons. Prior to this project, my answer would have been "never". After watching it, my answer would be "the one time".
There's nothing inherently wrong with the film, I just for some reason found it so unmemorable that I can't even develop a clear review for it. It's a great film to see once and then forget about, unless you're deeply religious or a history buff.
Critics praise the simplicity and beauty of the film, the acting (especially from Paul Scofield), and the overall historical message, but still comment on the fact that it can be a bit boring!
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is an interesting one. Based off of the Tony award winning play, it follows a married couple (Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) as they host a fellow coworker and his wife in their home. In real time, you watch the two couples drink an unfathomable amount of alcohol and basically yell at each other for 2 hours.
Apart from some weird camera angles and unbelievable actions by each of the 4 main characters, it's hard to look away from this train wreck of an evening.
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? also holds a special record for securing nominations in every eligible Oscar category (a record only also held by Best Picture winner Cimarron with 7 nominations).
A Man for All Seasons still dominated much of the 1966 awards season, winning top honors at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, NYFCC Awards, and collecting technical awards from the DGA and WGGB (Writers' Guild of Great Britain).
*A Man for All Seasons also won the following awards at the 21st BAFTAs: Screenplay, Art Direction (Color), Cinematography (Color), and Costume Design (Color). I simply could not make them all fit!
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was eligible for the 20th BAFTAs, winning top honors for film. It was also nominated for 7 Golden Globes, but did not take home any wins.
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? can be found on many top film lists and hall of fames, ranking #67 on the 2007 AFI list (but absent from the original 1998 list).
A Man for All Seasons was named the top film of 1966 by the National Board of Review, and was just inducted into the OFTA Hall of Fame in 2024.
Unofficial Review: A Man for All Seasons has a strong fan base, I'm just not a member. I would consider this an upset.

The bad news, @fanfoolishness , is that while there are guilds for game writers, the WGA notoriously, historically, doesn't support game writers; it's really hard for game writers to join, or to qualify for any member benefits.
The good news is that the WGGB (Writers Guild of Great Britain) is welcoming. But for people outside Britain it's not quite a union.
Game Workers Unite is working with the CWA to form the CODE-CWA union for video game workers in North America.
But yes. Join a union. Form a union, if you need to.
For the record I feel like saying "Dreadwolf is going to suck because they laid off Mary Kirby" is like... really dramatically missing the point of what's going on here.
The next game has been in alpha for nearly a year now. Kirby's work on the game as a writer was probably mostly finished. Which does not make this better. If anything, it makes it worse.
The layoffs aren't terrible news because a game we're looking forward to might be worse because of them. They're terrible news because people who have devoted years of blood, sweat, and tears to making the game good (including the person who wrote one of the two characters on which they've been hanging the entire marketing campaign for said game thus far) have been axed now that the company has decided it can probably get by without them.
The quality of the game when it finally comes out is irrelevant here. If it's amazing, it won't make this any better, and if it's awful, it won't make it any worse. What matters is the people whose labor made it exist at all are profoundly undervalued, the industry as a whole is broken and frankly abusive, and I wish everyone in it some good labor organizing.
