Chapter 4: The Proposal

Chapter Summary: After spending the afternoon wandering the streets of Jericho and reminiscing about the early days of their relationship, the time comes for Tyler to lead Wednesday into the cemetery and pop the question.

I can't believe my first multichapter is out in the world in its entirety! It was short and sweet but I LOVED getting to write this story and I hope anyone who has read it or will read it in the future enjoyed it, too <3

Wednesday was entertained by the boys sarcasm and choice of nickname.

He slung his bag over his shoulder. “By the way, I’m Tyler. I didn’t catch your name, or is that none of my business too?”

She considered whether or not she wanted to be on first name basis with Tyler. Despite the reservations she had about nearly everyone she met, something about him was intriguing.

“Wednesday.”

Tyler smiled at her. It was a sweet, boyish grin. She’d usually hate such a mannerism, but for some reason he didn’t repulse her.

“I’ll see you around, Wednesday.”

He turned and left the room, the door swinging closed behind him. The smell of coffee and pine lingered when he left.

Perhaps Wednesday wouldn’t mind seeing Tyler around.

So I kept it to myself. Fell in this spiral that was less like a swan dive and more like the aftermath of a mid-air collision. I gave Wednesday bits here and there to keep her floating in calm waters because she had no place navigating this wasteland with me. It was dishonest especially considering how we had promised to always tell each other when something was wrong. But this was where I drew the line. If what I thought had happened was what had actually happened to me then there wasn't any way I could tell her. Not entirely. And even if entirely, not right now.
