Chapter 8: NOT ENOUGH TIME
They run to the town square and catch the scene of Agnes floating while the townies surround Wanda, their voices overlapping and shouting, suffocating her. Her power reflects how she feels and chokes them. Y/N looks at Bucky, not knowing what to do.
“No stop. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Wanda says desperately as she takes back her magic.
“If you won’t let us go. Just let us die,” Mrs. Hart, if that was even her real name begs.
“I will… I will let you go, I will, I will.”
“What’s stopping you? Use your power now. Heroes don’t torture people,” Agnes jabs.
Wanda pants and shoots a burst of energy up into her barrier.
“Now you’ll see,” Agnes cackles, knowingly.
“Bucky!” Y/N says as she stops running, feeling off.
He stops and looks at her as she begins to fall apart much like the barrier. Fragments of her being shift and break.
“No, no, no please,” Bucky picks her up and carries her closer to the centre.
“What? No…” Wanda whispers seeing the people she loves partially disappearing.
“Now do you see? You tied your family to this twisted world and now one can’t exist without the other.”
“Don’t go. Don’t –” Bucky whispers.
Y/N reaches up a hand.
“Save Westview or save your family,” Agnes hums thoughtfully.
As Wanda closes the barrier Vision and the twins run to her.
“Not yet,” Y/N says. Bucky puts her down and kisses her.
“Y/N, Bucky! I’m sorry I… I just wanted you and Vision back. I’m sorry Bucky.”
“We understand, Wanda.” She jogs to her best friend, while holding Bucky’s hand and gives her a hug. “And you two, you’re okay?” she asks the twins after giving them a hug each.
Agnes chants in Latin and a surge of black and purple hurtles toward them.
“No!” Wanda puts up a red barrier but it’s clear that Agnes’ magic isn’t like Wanda’s as it absorbs her energy, turning her hands a lifeless black.
“How sweet,” Agnes flies tauntingly.
Suddenly the other Vision flies over and armoured trucks come to a stop.
Vision flies to attack his counterpart and Wanda turns to Y/N.
“Y/N… I’m giving you back a part of you I hid.” She raises her hand to Y/N’s temple and she feels a jolt through her. “You were one of the most skilled spies SHIELD had, it’s time for you to be that again.” Then she turns to the twins. “Boys, handle the military with your aunt and uncle. Mommy will be right back.” Wanda flies up to meet Agnes.
Bucky and Y/N see two incoming armoured vehicles approach. They notice that their clothes had turned into tactical gear for agility and Y/N feels a sense of familiarity.
The twins work together to take down the squad that had their guns aimed, Billy sends a pistol Y/N’s way and she shoots out the tires of the two trucks coming toward them. They screech to a stop and Bucky and Y/N take on one each. She approaches one with a man and woman. The man comes out but it seems his partner is not interested in fighting as she falls out of the truck.
“You’re supposed to be dead,” he says.
“Wow you really suck,” Y/N hits him with the point of her elbow and he is stunned, stumbling back. “What’s the matter? Didn’t think a housewife would know how to hit a traitor to the country?”
He goes for a punch but she dodges, sweep kicking him to the ground. He grunts and reaches for his gun but she steps on his hand causing him to cry out.
“You’re not even real,” he spits and uses all his strength to push on her leg causing her to fall back. Normally she, in her past life, would have had better balance but it’s probably the lack of practice. He pulls his gun on her, keeping a distance so she doesn’t do the same thing back at him.
“Only cowards aim a gun on a downed opponent,” she challenges. It’s not like dying a second time would be so bad.
“You think you’re worthy of an honourable death?”
“Can it get more honourable than dying for a stone that would restore half the universe?” she retorts, with Wanda restoring her abilities she also got Wanda’s memories of her.
He frowns but his gaze moves to the twins celebrating their victory against the disarmed, frozen soldiers. He moves the direction of his aim and fires five shots.
“Boys!” Y/N shouts, her eyes following the bullets as they travel towards their targets.
As he fires his sixth shot she takes her gun tucked under her and with the one shot remaining she fires into his arm.
Bucky shields the boys from the five bullets using his vibranium arm. The last one, shot just as Y/N hit the Director, zooms past him but Billy catches it with his powers.
“Good luck rotting in a federal prison when the inmates finds out you tried to off two kids.” Billy puts a spell on him so that he is frozen, like the rest of the soldiers.
“Good job, boys!” Y/N shouts referring to the twins and Bucky.
Vision flies out of the library and the twins run toward them for a big hug. Bucky and Y/N look at each other and smile. He feels like the team they once were.
Suddenly the sky turns red as the barrier is hit with blasts of Wanda’s magic. There is a battle of purple and red energy in the air as Wanda and Agnes fight. Vision attempts to fly up to help Wanda but she puts a barrier that pushes him back down.
“What is she doing?” Bucky asks but only Wanda can know. Y/N looks up concerned for her best friend but trusts that Wanda has a plan. She squeezes Bucky’s hand every time Agnes sees impermeable to Wanda’s powers, only absorbing them to fuel her own.
The battle rages on but just as it seems like Wanda has given all her power to Agnes runes appear on each wall of the boundary, rendering Agnes useless and she takes the magic back.
They float down and Y/N smiles proudly at her best friend. After she hugs her family, Y/N goes in for her hug.
“That was incredible!”
“I can’t believe Agatha – Agnes – was the one ruining everything this whole time,” Wanda says.
“Wait so… her name was Agatha all along?”
“Well, it seems our dream home has been reduced to a fixer upper,” Vision comments looking at the mess and rubble surrounding them.
Y/N recognizes Wanda’s face; it was a dream home but that’s just it. It’s just a dream. Something fleeting, to be enjoyed briefly but will never last long. She knows it and so does Vision.
“I know you’ll set everything right,” he smiles and if one were to look close enough, they would see the sadness behind it. “Just not for us.”
“No,” Wanda replies as her eyes move to meet Y/N’s who also understands what she has to do. “Not for us.”
Y/N snakes her arm around Bucky’s and locks their fingers together. “Shall we head home?” she says. He smiles and kisses her forehead.
The walk home feels shorter than usual as they know what’s to come. They split and walk into their own houses, Y/N and Wanda share a knowing look before they enter.
“Want some lemonade?” Y/N asks Bucky.
“No, I… I just want to sit.” He takes off his bullet-holed jacket, with Wanda’s illusion gone, he sees his vibranium arm clearly now, no longer masked to look like flesh.
“Okay,” Y/N says, smiling slightly, tears are already welling up in her eyes as she takes a seat on the couch next to him.
“I – I don’t know how to do this,” he chuckles uncomfortably. “I imagined so many times what I would say if I had the chance but now that I have it… it’s all gone.”
“You don’t have to say anything,” she whispers.
“There’s too much to say and not enough time. I just… wish we had more.”
“I know. There’s never enough. But what we do have enough of is love for each other,” she sniffs and moves closer to him, taking his hands. “I am so grateful that I got to experience this life with you. I got everything I ever wanted just by being here, waking up next to you every morning. I couldn’t ask for more.”
“I could,” he laughs though tears fall from it as he thought of the idea of having kids together that they talked about so much. “I would ask for forever with you. And I know that that’s selfish; we already got more time than what was planned for us.” He raises his hand to cup her cheek. “I could never love someone like this again.”
“You have my permission,” she smiles sadly.
“I don’t want to.”
“I would never want you to put your life on hold because of me.” She lifts her hands to his neck, caressing him.
“You are…” he takes a deep breath. “were my life.”
“You have to keep going, sweetheart. For me. For you.”
“How can I go on, knowing what I’ve lost? How we could have lived if I hadn’t…” He shakes his head, tilting it so it touches hers.
“Don’t think about that. That wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t even Thanos’ fault. It was just… meant to be. The world needs to have Bucky Barnes back,” she whispers. “Strong, brave, selfless.” She kisses him with each word.
“The world deserves you back,” he insists.
She rolls her eyes playfully. “Don’t be stubborn. It already lost me. But you… will never. Okay? I’m right here.” She lowers one hand and stops at his heart. “Always.” She kisses him once more, long and hard and passionately. “Why don’t you go to bed? I’ll be right up,” she promises.
He nods slowly, wiping tears away.
Wanda takes that as the invitation to knock.
Y/N opens the door with a smile, eyes red from crying. “Come on in, Scarlet Witch,” she greets with the moniker Agatha gave her.
Wanda laughs and walks in. “I just put the twins to bed…” she says.
“Wanna sit outside? Admire my forget-me-nots?”
Wanda nods.
The cool evening air is welcome as they sit on the patio. Wanda conjures up iced tea, their go-to drink.
“I see Bucky finally made that bird bath,” she comments.
“Isn’t he ever the diy guy?” Y/N jokes. “I don’t think he could have done it outside of Westview, though.”
They both laugh but soon it dwindles to a sigh.
“I… never meant to hurt anyone,” Wanda sighs. “I just wanted you and Vision back.” She stares off to the distance. “When I lost him the… second time and I was snapped away I thought that was that. How could I get hurt any more after that?” she recalls. “Then I came back and the one person I was looking forward to seeing again… the only person I really had left. Wasn’t here anymore,” Wanda takes a shuddering breath and Y/N reaches over the table for her hand. “I knew how Bucky felt because I felt it too… I was feeling it again the same time he was. I asked him to come with me to S.W.O.R.D Headquarters, where I found out Vision’s… body was.” She struggles with the word even now. “They cut him up. Drilled into him. I… was so angry. So hurt. We drove to Westview and when I saw what he had planned for us. It all just took over. I wanted it all back. So did Bucky.”
“I will never blame you,” Y/N comforts. “You’re my sister. And I love you so much and I forgive you.”
“How did you know?” Wanda asks. “How did you know I needed your forgiveness?”
“My magical intuition,” she jokes and Wanda laughs.
“I guess I’m not the only magical girl in town,” she recites Agatha’s words.
“We’re the only girls in town,” Y/N says as she sees the red barrier getting closer now. “If you ever need me… I’m sure there’s a spell to talk to the dead.” It’s another joke but it may be possible.
“I’ll look into it,” Wanda winks with teary eyes.
“We better get back to our hubbies.”
“What would they do without us?” they chuckle and get serious again.
“Thank you for giving us the change to be together again. I hope I see you in another life, Wanda Maximoff,” Y/N says as she walks Wanda to the door.
“I’ll make sure of it,” she replies, hugging her tightly before leaving to her own home.
Y/N walks up the stairs, slowly making her way to their bedroom. “Did you say your goodbyes?” Bucky asks as he stands shirtless, looking out the window, watching the barrier close in.
“Mhm,” Y/N hums. She changes into one of his t-shirts and walks towards him. She gently takes his vibranium hand and guides him to the bed. “I just want you to hold me.”
Bucky nods and wraps her up in his arms, her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. She feels his breathing quicken and she knows it’s because he’s crying. Hurting. And it brings tears to her own eyes again. I only hurt because you do, she thinks. When you love someone you feel their pain, it’s easy for her to accept what needs to be done. She’s not the one being left behind.
“I don’t want to say goodbye.”
“You already have,” With a final kiss, he feels her disappear as the barrier engulfs them. The comfortable feeling of holding her in his arms is gone, her warmth, her scent. Everything was gone again.
Opening his eyes, it’s day and he stands in a house as empty as his heart. A house that isn’t theirs anymore. It never really was.
He wipes his tears and walks out the front door to see a dreary, grey town. No longer vibrant with happiness and hope. As if it never happened.
Wanda stands in the foundations of her home and Bucky approaches silently. They stand together and Wanda takes a shuddering breath. They walk in silence through the crowd looking at them in disdain, leaving the place they called home for the first time in too long.
“I’m not angry you did this,” Bucky says. “I’m glad you did. I’m glad I got to see her again. We were together again.”
She nods.
“I don’t know how to live without her. But I promised her I’d try.”
“You’re staying,” she states. She doesn’t have to be a mind reader to know what he has decided.
“I want to… atone for my sins as the Winter Soldier. Make amends,” Bucky says.
“I’ll leave you with them then?” she says, referring to the sirens they hear approaching.
“Yes.”
“Goodbye, Bucky.”
“I’ll be seeing you, Wanda.”

Together Again (Bucky Barnes x Fem!Reader) 1/8
A/N: Hi! This is my first post on Tumblr so I’m still trying to navigate and work out how to make masterlists and such but I really wanted to put this on here!
Word Count: 2341
Warnings: Mentions of sex but NO SMUT, please read responsibly!! Major fluff, angst for reader and you’ll see why 👀 be prepared for tears
Summary: Bucky finds himself in the town of WestView where not everything is as it seems. But does that really matter if you find yourself reunited with the one you love?
Masterlist
Chapter Summary: Bucky walks into a house and finds you making dinner. It’s a sight to see because he… misses you. But he cannot recall why that is or how he got there. All he knows is that something is wrong but being with you feels so right.
Not beta-ed, all mistakes are my own but I have tried to limit them as much as I can!!
Chapter 1 ONLY FOR YOU
Bucky looks around confused for a moment. His surroundings aren’t familiar and yet they are. Like it was pulled from a memory. A different time. A time that he was supposed to live through but it was taken away from him.
He notices the fireplace is lit, allowing warmth through the room. A warmth that he has missed since losing her.
There’s a smell in the air… the sweet smell of cherry pie. Homemade. He follows it, leading him into the kitchen. There’s the sound of humming, a tune he used to know. Bucky looks for whoever it is coming from. On the dinner table there are three courses prepared, a salad of mozzarella and tomato with basil leaves and dressings, coquilles St Jacques and beef wellington with gravy and roasted potatoes for mains.
He doesn’t remember when the last time he had a nice meal like this was… if ever.
“My love!” A head pops out of a cupboard and Bucky’s heart stops for a second. “You’re home from work! Why didn’t you call out?”
She keeps speaking but Bucky can’t process what’s happening.
“Long and hard day, huh?” she smiles at him even though he doesn’t respond.
She puts down whatever she took out of the cupboard and walks toward him, giving him the opportunity to take her in.
She wears a square neckline dress with mini daisies printed all over and plain black heels that give her a little height. An apron wraps around her waist. Her [H/C] hair is in familiar pin curls with a gold barrette. A present he had gotten her while they were… he doesn’t remember specifically.
She reaches him and wraps her arms around him, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
Bucky hugs back immediately, breaking out of his shock. He takes a deep breath and her smell drives him crazy.
She pulls back but Bucky catches her chin and gives her a deep, passionate kiss. He adds tongue to the mix and she giggles.
“Hello to you too, cowboy.”
“Y/N,” he finally utters her name now that he knows it’s all real.
She smiles her charming smile and looks at him in adoration.
“Why don’t you rest up, the pie is almost done. I made your favourite, of course.”
“I can help out,” he offers.
“Don’t be silly. There’s nothing to do but wait. I’m just going to tend to my garden. Want to come with?”
“Of course,” he replies immediately. He isn’t going to waste a second that could be spent with her.
He sits on the patio table and pours them both a glass of iced tea.
“How are the…” he tries to guess what kind of flowers they are.
“Forget-me-nots,” she laughs at his attempts.
Huh, forget-me-nots. How ironic.
“They’re well, loving the soil here. It’s like magic,” she smirks.
Bucky just smiles fondly at her as he watches.
“I was thinking maybe you could build us a bird bath? I heard a few blue jays around here…”
“Yeah, no problem. I can do that for ya, doll.”
“You’re the best, Bucky.”
“Only for you.”
She waters a few of her other flowers and her herb garden then an alarm rings.
“Pie’s ready!” Y/N says. She removes her gardening gloves and holds out a hand to Bucky which he takes. With his other hand he picks up both empty glasses.
The sit at the table once all the plates are set with food.
“So, how was work?”
Bucky chuckles, not knowing what to say. “It was… busy.”
“I’m so excited that Wanda and Vision have finally moved in! It’s been a long time coming.”
Wanda and… Vision? Bucky thinks. Isn’t he-
“Of course I’ll have to drop by a house warming present tomorrow. I wanted to go see them today but I thought it would be best to give them a little privacy,” she smirks. “I know for our honeymoon we wanted it.”
Honeymoon? Bucky’s eyebrows furrow. He looks down at his left ring finger and sure enough there’s a wedding band there. He does a double take. What isn’t there is the vibranium of a metal arm. He clenches his fist. He didn’t notice earlier, too taken by his soulmate right in front of him as gorgeous as the day he met her. The day he met her… he can’t for the life of him remember when that was or how it happened.
“What’s wrong my love?” Y/N asks, concerned.
“Nothing. Just, thinking about our wedding day,” he replies, quick to come up with a fabrication considering he is a trained… what? Salesman?
Y/N smiles her stunning smile and her [E/C] eyes sparkle. “The second happiest day of my life.”
“And what was the first?” Bucky asks though he can guess the answer. She has told him before after all.
He smiles, meeting her eyes.
“That lake was beautiful. At such a low point in my life, I didn’t expect to meet such a handsome man there who would save my life.”
Lake? Bucky thinks. We met at the… nothing comes up no matter how hard he thinks.
“Yeah,” he agrees. The story doesn’t sound right… she was always the one to save him. From danger or despair.
“How do you like the food?”
“Delicious, doll. Thank you.”
Y/N gets up and places the napkin on the table as she goes to serve the pie. “Cream?”
“You know it,”
She places a plate with a slice in front of him once he had cleared his previous plate.
“Dottie’s having a little tea party in two days for the planning committee to discuss the town fundraiser.”
“Oh, yeah? What’s it for this year?”
“For the children,” Y/N answers simply.
He waits for her to elaborate but she doesn’t, just enjoys a bite of pie.
He chuckles. “Okay, well do you need any help with it, doll?”
She shakes her head. “No, love. They do want some cupcakes to serve there but I have a plan for that!”
“You’re a real peach, doll.”
They finish dinner and Bucky insists on washing and cleaning up.
He enters the living room to see that Y/N has the radio on, playing something slow and she has prepared for bed in a dressing gown and… Bucky’s eyes widen upon further inspection.
“Y/N…”
“I think you’ve had a stressful day at work, my darling. Want me to help you out?”
She rises from the couch and saunters toward him.
“I missed you,” he knows deep down that statement means more than just being away from her for a few hours at a 9 to 5 job but he doesn’t know why. Why would he miss her so much? He sees her every day…
Bucky is pulled from his thoughts as she puts a hand on his cheek. “I missed you too. I always do.”
He kisses her hard and longingly. Desperate for more of her. He doesn’t worry about being too rough, knowing how much she liked it -likes it.
They pull away out of breath, Y/N pulls his tie apart and throws it across the room. She forces his button up open in a fit of passion and takes his body in.
Bucky looks down at her as she stares. He looks to his left shoulder and there is nothing there, no scars no marks… no reminder of the great pain he has been through.
“I love you,” he whispers.
“I love you too, Buck.” He rests a hand on her cheek and his thumb swipes across her blood red lips. He goes in for another kiss.
“Shall we take this upstairs, doll?” he asks.
She giggles and nods. He lifts her up with both hands on her behind and she wraps her legs around his waist as Bucky walks them to the bedroom, his lips on her neck.
They both lie on the bed, panting and exhausted after their night of passion.
Staring into her eyes Bucky feels compelled. “Do you ever think about having little versions of us running around in our new home?”
Y/N’s eyes widen. “You- you want…?”
“I was just thinking about it. I never really could before because of… Hydra-“ he cuts himself off. What’s Hydra?
“Right, your old company. They worked you to the bone! I’m glad you’re not with them anymore,” she answers for him.
“My… old company. Exactly,” something about it sounds right but also… wrong like a twisted truth. “So, have you?”
“I never did until you came along,” she confesses.
His heart soars. “Do you wanna try?”
She feels blood rush to her cheeks and nods eagerly. “I want to have everything with you, Bucky.”
“Let’s start now, I don’t wanna waste a second!”
“You’re ready again?”
“You know me and my libido, doll. Higher than most!”
She giggles and Bucky pulls the covers over them both.
Bucky had left for work, leaving Y/N to tend to her garden.
“Well, mornin’ there neighbour!” a chipper voice calls out across the fence.
“Morning Agnes!” Y/N greets the nosy neighbour. She’s sweet enough if not a little too snoopy. “And how are you this fine morning?”
“Well, just having a nice day to myself, Ralph’s mother in law finally left so I can just let loose again. And you? How are you and your hubby? Think I heard you both going at it into the early hours of dawn! It’s a miracle you’re lookin’ so swell! I might even say glowing,” she raises her brows suggestively.
Y/N chuckles. “Ha ha very funny Agnes,” she responds though she can’t help but hope. Especially after her’s and Bucky’s talk last night.
“So?”
“Oh, well we’re alright! He’s just… perfect,” she sighs.
“Sweetheart just you wait until that honeymoon phase is over. Then you’ll want to jump off a cliff!” Agnes laughs.
Y/N laughs with her but looks at the odd woman with furrowed brows. What an odd thing to say.
“Well, I’ll leave you to your nots and herbs! I’ve gotta get started on my spring cleaning!”
“See you later, Agnes!” Y/N calls out.
“Bye,” she sings away.
After tending to her garden Y/N decides to have breakfast. Loading up her ToastMate 2000 she fries an egg and some bacon. The toaster beeps to signal it has done its job and she butters up the toast and sets it on the plate.
After, she starts on putting together her housewarming present for Wanda and Vision. She has flowers and fruits freshly picked from her garden, champagne even though Vision can’t drink she’s sure Wanda will appreciate it. She begins to bake some brownies, enough for herself and Bucky and to give to her friends.
Once everything is packed in a basket she decides to get ready.
Using her Hydra Soak luxury bath powder Bucky had bought her she relaxed in the tub for a little while.
She towels off and heads to her walk-in wardrobe. She ponders on what to wear but settles on a simple polka dot dress and red heels. Y/N does her make up in the classic way, matte eyeshadow, bold black eyeliner and a bright red lip. Smiling to herself in the mirror she sets off to her best friend’s home with her basket of gifts.
“Mornin’ Y/N!” she hears a familiar voice call out to her.
She turns around and smiles, “morning Dennis!”
The chipper mail man grins. “Whatcha doin’ with that?” He nods to the basket in her arms.
“Oh, it’s for my friend! A housewarming present. She’s just moved in on the block,”
“That’s mighty sweet of you Y/N! Well how’s the husband?”
“Bucky’s doing just fine! He’s working right now but I’ll tell him you asked about him!”
“Cool beans. I hope he’s not having those nightmares as badly now!” He waves away.
“Nightmares?” Y/N frowns but he’s too far to hear her.
“What are ya doin’ just standing there for, toots?” Agnes’s voice breaks her from her thoughts.
Y/N chuckles and shakes off the feeling of uncertainty. “Just on my way to Wanda’s!”
“Well you have a good day, dear,” her tone a little more serious.
“You too, Agnes.” The nosy neighbour watches as she walks off.
Y/N comes to the front door of Wanda’s house and uses the door knocker.
“Just one moment!” The voice of her best friend calls bringing a smile to her face. The door swings open and reveals a stunned looking Wanda. “Y/N?”
“Good morning, neighbour!” She lifts up her basket to show Wanda. “Got you a housewarming present!”
Wanda envelopes Y/N in a tight hug. “You’re here,” she whispers.
“Sorry I didn’t come by yesterday. I figured you’d want some alone time with Vision,” she smirks as she pulls away.
“Uh- I’m glad you’re here. I missed you,” Wanda says though it is in a way that seems to hold more to it.
“Well it hasn’t been that long!”
Wanda chuckles and smiles. “No, it hasn’t. But that doesn’t mean I can’t miss you!” Wanda replies in a much more cheery tone. “Well, come on in dear! Let me take that, thank you so much!” Wanda takes the basket and looks inside. “These are perfect! And brownies? You know me so well.” She smiles fondly.
“Lovely home, Wanda!” Y/N says looking around.
“So,” Wanda starts as she takes Y/N’s hands in her own and sits them down on the couch. “Tell me, how is everything?”
“Bucky and I are doing great!”
“Bucky?” Wanda looks stunned for a moment. “He’s… here too?”
“Well not right now, he’s at work, silly billy!”
Wanda smiles and nods, “of course.”
“Actually, we had a little conversation last night…”
“Oh?” Wanda asks, curiosity piqued.
“It wasn’t explicitly said but… Bucky wants… kids,” she whispers as if it’s a secret even though it is just the two of them in the house.
Wanda exclaims theatrically. “Kids?! That’s absolutely… wonderful!”
Y/N smiles, relieved, “I am so glad you think so, Wanda! I was worried you wouldn’t agree!”
“Well why would I ever? I support any decision you make!”

Chapter 7: NOT THIS TIME
“You’re not really Pietro, are you?” Y/N asks.
The grey haired man shrugs, pulling an unbothered face but giving not real answer.
“So, what you’re just gonna keep us here?” Geraldine asks.
He still doesn’t respond, choosing to speed to a couch and flip through a magazine instead. Geraldine looks through the window, thinking off a way to get out. Her eyes fall on the door then to the man too busy with the sports column and then to Y/N. She shakes her head, knowing it’s pointless but Geraldine has to try. Inevitably she fails as Not-Pietro stops her, knocking her down.
“What is this?” Y/N asks, helping Geraldine up.
“It’s my man-cave,” he responds.
“It’s a mess.”
“Don’t be judging me, missy.” He blends a smoothie and picks out a movie. “You fans of Steven Segal?”
They both ignore him. “Geraldine… where did you go? The last time I saw you, you helped Wanda deliver Tommy and then you just disappeared,” Y/N asks.
“Y/N…” she sighs. “My name isn’t really Geraldine. It’s Monica.”
“W-what?”
“That was… It’s hard to explain.”
“Try. I don’t understand what’s going on anymore! Everything used to be so simple and suddenly it’s like the world has turned upside down. Why is Wanda’s brother who’s not really her brother keeping us in Agnes’ attic? Why were you snooping around Agnes’ basement?!” she asks in a rush.
“Okay, okay, um…” Monica thinks. “What do you remember before Wanda and Vision moving in?”
“Everything,” she says almost instantly.
“Tell me how you and Bucky met.”
Y/N blinks. “It was… at a lake,” she replies hesitantly. “I was at a low point in my life and… he made me feel again.”
“What made you feel so low?”
“I… I don’t know.” Nothing comes to mind to answer that.
“Where did you have your honeymoon?”
“Odessa,” she answers.
“And what did you do there?”
“Stop,” she feels her eyes sting.
“Stop what, Y/N?”
“I… I can’t answer these questions, why can’t I answer them? I don’t… the details they’re fuzzy – they don’t exist. Why don’t they exist?” she asks desperately.
Monica holds onto both of Y/N’s hands in an effort to calm her down.
“Listen to me, this is going to be very hard to accept okay?” Y/N nods and Monica sits them both down. “Westview, this Westview isn’t… real. Wanda, and I’m not blaming her, has been controlling everything that happens. We’re not sure how but we know that she is extremely powerful.”
“Who is we?” Y/N asks quietly, trying to grasp the news that has been given to her.
“I am Captain Monica Rambeau. I work under the organisation S.W.O.R.D. that’s the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, we’re an extra-governmental intelligence agency.”
“Sentient Weapon…” Y/N repeats quietly. “Vision. No, no you’re after Vision. I- I won’t let you take him. He’s not yours to take! He’s my friend. He’s Wanda’s husband. He’s not a weapon. He’s not yours –“ she tries to pull away from Monica’s grip.
Monica doesn’t let go. “Y/N. Y/N! You don’t understand. I promise you, I do not want to hurt Wanda or take Vision, okay? But what I do want is for the people of Westview to be safe.”
She calms down and frowns. “Safe?”
“You… you didn’t have the nightmares?” she asks, confused.
“What? No. What- what nightmares?”
Monica is quiet, as if she’s working through a mystery and is close to solving it. “When I went to sleep, I’d… see things. Things that I’ve never experienced. They say that’s what dreams are. You can’t just make them up, they’re things that your brain has witnessed, felt or faced before.”
“What did you see?”
Monica sighs shakily. “One was a warzone, children and families being hurt. Another was with… Ultron. How he killed Wanda’s brother. Then the first war with Thanos and how Wanda had to see Vision die twice right in front of her. The last one… wasn’t so clear at first. It was just a – a darkness but I was drowning in it. I felt this hole in my heart, like I was…” Monica tries to find the words. “Missing something. Someone. She relives those memories in all of us. That’s what we see when we close our eyes. The pain of losing people you love over and over again, that’s what we felt in bed at night.” She takes another deep breath.
“Bucky has nightmares…” Y/N whispers, standing up and pacing. “Dennis told me. Dennis. The mailman,” she stops and turns to Monica with a helpless expression. “How would Dennis know that my husband has nightmares?”
“Because we all had them. I’m familiar with that feeling. I know it so well. It’s so fresh in my mind. In my heart. It’s grief.”
“Who did you lose?”
“My mom. When I… I came back she was gone. Just like with Bucky and Wanda with y-“
Monica is interrupted by a door bursting open downstairs. Pietro checks it out and comes back with Bucky, throwing him in the attic with them before the two could even think to escape.
“Bucky!”
“Y/N?” She runs at him to give him a hug. “I’m so glad you’re safe,” he whispers into her hair then kisses her. “Monica?” his gaze shifts to the other captive and he frowns.
“You know her real name?”
“I uh…” Y/N draws away from him with a suspicious look on her face. “Bucky… do you know what’s going on here?”
He hesitates, not knowing how to come clean. Whether to come clean.
“Bucky you never lie to me…”
It hurts him to admit that he has lied to her while in Westview more times than he had ever lied to her before all of this. “I didn’t. At first. I promise you, doll. It’s more than you think. You just have to trust me.”
“I do. But it’s clear that you don’t trust me.” She steps away from him. “You have to tell me the truth.”
“It hurts too much,” he shakes his head and turns away from her, not wanting her to see the tears building in his eyes as he is faced with having to accept reality.
“I know,” she walks toward him, putting a hand on his cheek to turn him around. “But we’ll get through it together. Like we always do.”
Not this time, Bucky thinks. This time he’ll have to do it alone, like he used to. Before her.
“There was this thing. The Blip,” he notices by Monica’s reaction that she was snapped away, too. “And Wanda and I and a few others of the team were…snapped away. We were gone. But you, Steve, Tony, Natasha, Clint, Thor and Banner were still here. Five years passed and you found a way to bring us back and you did. But there was a price,” he sniffs and blinks away tears. “Wanda and I, we came back. There was a battle again and I tried to find you. I couldn’t… find you. Natasha and Steve told me that you were the one to make the sacrifice while on the mission,” he chuckles dryly. “Of course, you’d go out as a means to get the mission done… the only time you ever disobeyed orders on a mission was when you met me and decided you had to save me. But I couldn’t save you,” he whispers with so much anguish it reached her heart.
Y/N doesn’t know what to say so she just holds her husband as he cries. Cries for her. It happened to her but she feels like someone else. The only reason she feels sad it because Bucky is in pain.
“I know myself,” Y/N says. “I know that nothing could have stopped me if I had made a decision. And that was to get you back. It wasn’t your fault. It was no one’s fault,” she comforts. “I’m just sorry we didn’t get the chance to say goodbye.”
“We had our chance, here. In Westview but –“
“But it’s wrong,” she finishes for him.
“It felt so right to just keep going once I found out the truth. I didn’t want to lose you again.”
“You will never lose me,” a tear falls from her eyes, she knows what has to be done and so does he but neither admits it. Not yet. “I’m always with you.”
“It’s not the same,” he denies.
“You’re angry. None of this is fair to you. But it’s not fair to the people of Westview, either,” she reasons.
“I know.” Bucky closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. “I know, I know, I know.” He nods his head, saying the phrase like a mantra to convince himself.
Monica finds some letters and files, “Wait… this isn’t Agnes’ house. It’s his,” she gestures to Not-Pietro. “You’re Ralph Bohner?”
“Ralph as in Agnes’ husband that she hates? What does Agnes have to do with this?”
“She and Wanda are fighting,” Bucky stares out the window.
“What?” she looks too and in the air, near the direction of the Town Square, sure enough they are.
“How is she controlling you?” Monica asks, walking closer to Ralph.
He punches the air, ready for a boxing fight. “You wanna tussle again?”
Monica grabs him and flips him over onto his back, her eyes glow blue. “His necklace.”
Y/N bends over and rips the beaded necklace off of him.
The man on the ground cowers under Monica. “Please don’t hurt me!”
“Did I just see two Visions fly past?” Bucky says, utterly confused.
“That’s not all,” Monica starts. “S.W.O.R.D.’s Director wants Wanda to take the blame for all he’s done and then he’ll have the glory of taking her down.”
“Thought you were the good guys?” Y/N asks, brow raised.
“I am. He’s not.”
“We have to find Wanda,” Bucky says.

Chapter 3: MY CHOSEN FAMILY
“I’m thinking we do some shopping for the baby,” Y/N says.
“Yes! That is a perfect idea! I miss shopping with you!” Wanda exclaims. She was glad that she didn’t have to explain how she came to look about 2 months pregnant so suddenly. “Vision, Y/N and I are off to the mall, we’re going to get some baby clothes!” Wanda calls out to her husband who is in the nursery in progress.
“Ugh, I’ve been waiting for our girls day for so long!”
Wanda smiles affectionately at her friend. “So have I,” she sighs quietly.
The mall is only a 15 minute walk away, Wanda insisted that the exercise was good for the child.
“How is it going along with you and Bucky?”
“Oh, we’re trying but… nothing just yet.”
“Well, I’m sure in no time we’ll have little ones who will be running around – oh! They could be best friends.”
“I would love that!” she giggles at her friend’s optimism.
They entered the department store and went straight to the baby section.
“So, what colour pattern are you thinking?”
“Mmm,” she thinks. “I’m conflicted between green or red…”
“Well,” Y/N finds a green and red onesie. “How about both?!”
Wanda gasps and claps. “Perfect!”
They load up their shopping cart with all sorts of baby essentials. One would thing they were shopping for two!
“Where shall we get lunch?” Wanda asks.
“What about that place, it has that has that new Middle Eastern food…”
“Shawarma!” Wanda finishes Y/N’s sentence.
“Yes it’s like you read my mind!” They giggle knowingly.
They are seated at a table and put their bags down.
“So how are you liking WestView?”
“It’s amazing! Everything I could have wished for, Vision loves it too. And it’s so great to… have you be so close!”
“Awww you and Vision are so cute! Your children are going to be adorable!”
“Well how about you and Bucky, though? You are made for each other,” Wanda smiles fondly.
“Yes, I truly believe we are.”
“He just lights up around you.”
Something comes back to her. A memory. “He used to have nightmares,” Y/N says quietly. Like a confession.
“Oh?”
“Since coming here, though, they’ve stopped.” She fiddles with her ring, looking distant. “It’s probably the peace of the suburban life.”
“Exactly why Vision and I moved here –“
“Hiya kids!” A cheery very familiar voice breaks through their conversation.
“Hello Agnes,” the two greet.
“Whatcha talkin about? And why wasn’t I invited?” The two women look at each other. “Just pulling your leg!” She looks down at the shopping bags and Wanda’s belly. “My oh my have you grown! What an exciting addition to our little neighbourhood!”
“Thank you, Agnes,” Wanda smiles.
“We should throw you a baby shower!” Y/N exclaims, gone is the girl who was in deep thought about her husband’s past struggles.
“What a splendid idea!” Agnes agrees.
“You really don’t have to,” Wanda says bashfully.
“Oh course we do!” Agnes exclaims.
“Here are two orders of veggie shawarma with a side of house fries and an ice tea and lemonade!” The waiter places their orders on the table.
Thankfully, Agnes takes that as her cue. “We’ll keep me updated on the baby shower, Y/N! Have a good day, you two.” She waves goodbye and the two wave back.
“She’s a little crazy sometimes.”
“No kidding,” Wanda agrees. “Let’s dig in!”
Y/N calls Bucky on a pay phone to come pick them up, a pregnant lady is in no shape to walk home with a bunch of shopping bags, she insisted.
He arrives in his teal Chevy and gets out to load the bags into the trunk.
“Thank you, Bucky.” Y/N kisses his cheek.
“Anything for you.” He notices Wanda’s joking look. “And Wanda.” They laugh.
He drives them back home and helps Wanda with the bags. “Will you be alright on your own?” Y/N asks.
“Don’t be silly! I’ll be fine! I’m just gonna go read some parenting books!”
They hug goodbye and Y/N and Bucky walk hand in hand to their own house. “Did you have a good day at work, sweetie?”
“I sure did but I missed you too much,” he flirts.
“You’re such a charmer.” He twirls her through the door and she laughs.
“I have to plan a baby shower for Wanda, it’s going to be so exciting.”
“Hey, doll,” he takes a serious tone.
“What is it, Bucky?”
“You’re not angry are you? That we’ve been trying and haven’t gotten anywhere yet?” he asks shyly.
She frowns and walks toward him, placing a hand on his cheek. “Of course not. I… I don’t blame you, Bucky I hope you know that. We’ll just keep trying. It’s not a big deal, what you think I’m complaining?” she smirks seductively, trying to lift his spirits.
A smile slowly breaks through. “God, I love you more that you could ever know.”
“Why don’t we put that to the test?” she pulls him up the stairs.
The next day, she and Bucky drop by Wanda’s house the next morning, miraculously she was able to put together a plan for the baby shower and get rsvps from the guests.
Dr. Nielson and Vision exit the house just as Y/N approaches the driveway.
“Good morning, Dr.”
“Hello there Mr. and Mrs. Barnes,” he greets as he says his goodbye to Vision. “The wife and I are off to Bermuda!”
“Hey Vision,” Y/N smiles.
“Oo! Baby shower!”
“Don’t tell me you forgot!”
“Um…” he looks around panicked. “Go on in, Wanda’s just… inside,” he smiles awkwardly. Bucky goes in to set down the box of decorations Y/N had come up with.
“Have fun, doll.” He kisses her forehead. “See you later, Wanda!”
“Bye Bucky!” Wanda calls out from the… kitchen, it would seem.
Bucky leaves the house to go and chat with Vision and Herb right outside.
“I come baring cupcakes, décor and lots of -oh my!” Y/N cuts herself off as she sees Wanda’s very prominent belly.
“I know! Isn’t it so exciting! We just had the doctor over, I’m at 4 months!”
“This is so exciting!” Y/N runs over to Wanda and gives her an energetic hug. “I’m gonna be an aunt!” she sings.
Vision walks back in just to check on his pregnant wife leaving Bucky and Herb.
“Woah Nelly!”
“What is it?”
“Have you gotten bigger?!”
“Have I? I can’t tell from this angle…” Vision speeds to Wanda and makes a punny joke, causing both women to roll their eyes.
“Okay well, I think it would be good and efficient for us to start decorating the nursery,” Y/N suggests.
“Genius idea!”
Wanda and Y/N walk over to the spare room. She uses her powers to put together the crib while Y/N paints a stork on the wall. Vision takes up residence on a rocking chair, reading a baby book. He lists symptoms of carrying a baby and we both look at how Wanda is doing far too much activity for her condition.
“Darling, you should probably sit down.”
“We don’t want you passing out or anything,” Y/N adds.
“You two are doing too much, I’m in no pain at all just excitement, happiness and ooh!” she exclaims.
“Kicking?” Y/N asks.
“Already?”
“It’s kinda fluttery!” she giggles and the mobile of butterflies transforms into actual butterflies.
“So a first kick puts you at… 6 months!”
“Wow wow, Wanda,” Y/N says. “It seems little Tommy wants out.”
“I was thinking Billy…” Vision pouts.
“It’s a nice, classic, all-American name!” Wanda defends.
“Which one’s better, Y/N?” Vision asks.
She feels betrayed. “Don’t include me in this quarrel, please.” Y/N responds then goes back to painting.
“There’s only one solution to this debate,” Wanda shrugs, smugly. “Hope for a girl.”
They take a short break and Y/N comes out to see Bucky and Herb.
“Hey, doll.”
“So, baby shower is cancelled, I’m just gonna help Wanda out with the nursery, instead.” She looks at the saw in Herb’s hand and the cut into the concrete wall. “Uh… Herb, are you alright there?” She then looks up at Bucky silently asking him what’s going on.
“Oh, yeah. Just… slipped. Trimming the hedges for Agnes. She doesn’t like handling power tools,” he smiles kindly as if he didn’t just saw through a third of the wall. There was a sudden rumble.
“What was that?” we look around then see Vision running out of the house.
“Is everything okay? How’s Wanda?!” I ask, alarmed at his panic.
“Braxton Hicks! Power out?” He says incoherently.
“Um…” Bucky shrugs.
“Well gee, what’s a gal gotta do to have working electricity around here?” Agnes says as she leaves her house to gather with the neighbours.
“Thank you, Agnes!” Vision says, hurrying back inside.
“Well, that was odd,” Y/N says.
“I’ll say… but they are quote the odd couple,” Agnes says carefully.
Y/N’s eyes narrow. “What do you mean?”
“They show up outta nowhere, suddenly Wanda has a pregnant belly ready to burst, you don’t think that’s a little strange?
“No, not at all. You don’t know what you’re talking about, Agnes.” Y/N feels Bucky’s hand on the small of her back.
“They’re good people and that’s all that’s important,” Bucky backs her up.
“I think so too,” Herb says. “Plus, Vision’s pretty funny.”
Agnes lifts a brow. “You don’t feel even a little bit jealous that she magically got a baby while you two were talking about it before she even considered it?” she crosses her arms.
“No I’m happy for her. She’s my best friend.”
“Of course you would say that you’re just a puppet.”
There’s a fire that blazes behind Y/N’s eyes at the insinuation and Agnes smirks believing that she is getting close to whatever it is that Wanda Maximoff is hiding.
Then the fire is snuffed out as if nothing happened.
“Puppets? Are you interested in the Marionette show, Agnes? Have you ever been to a live one? It’s pretty nifty how they control them with those strings!” Y/N exclaims.
Agnes recoils, confused. She had her. What happened?
“If you want, doll I’ll take you to one,” Bucky grins. “In Paris.”
Y/N closes her eyes sensually. “Mm Paris. I miss the croissants and ooh! La galette des Rois at New Years!”
Suddenly Vision bursts from the front door. “Doctor!” He exclaims speeding off.
“Um… I’m gonna go check on Wanda,” Y/N says, squeezing Bucky goodbye.
“She is a doll,” Agnes comments.
“She is.”
“Howdy, neighbours! Say, do any of you own a bucket? My first floor is flooded! Can you believe that?” Geraldine asks, sauntering towards the small crowd.
“I don’t, sorry, sugar. But I’m sure Wanda does!” Agnes suggests.
Bucky frowns, how would Agnes even know that? And what right does she have to speak for Wanda. He’s pretty sure Wanda’s not ready for company at the moment so he tries his best to divert the new neighbour’s attention. “I can have a look at my house,” Bucky offers.
Geraldine waves him off. “No, I don’t wanna inconvenience you! Plus, I’m already here! I’ll just ask Wanda.” She makes her way toward the front door.
“I think she and Y/N are a little too busy for company at the moment,” Bucky says. “You should try later.”
“I’m sure she won’t mind.” She rings the doorbell.
Y/N answers, takes in Geraldine then meets Bucky’s eyes. They narrow.
Bucky backs up even though there’s more than enough space between him and his wife. “I’m sorry!” he mouths.
“She sure wants to get in there… what do you think she really wants?” Agnes raises a curious brow.
“What do you mean?” Bucky asks.
“She didn’t seem to want to take no for an answer… I mean, what do we really know about her?”
“She’s nice enough,” Bucky says hesitantly.
“And it’s like… how did she even get here?” Agnes frowns.
“She walked,” Herb says.
Agnes rolls her eyes. “I mean into Westview. Wanda made sure that–“ she cuts herself off.
“Made sure what?”
“Well we’re all… we can’t…” Herb says hesitantly.
“Leave,” Agnes finishes.
“Of course we can.”
“You especially,” Agnes says dismissively shrugging.
“What?”
“Because of Y/N.”
Bucky feels his heart rate pick up. No. No. He doesn’t want to think about this. Why is he thinking about this?
“How do you know about that?” His right hand closes into a fist.
“Are you worried? The lost sense of time… unanswerable questions… something’s wrong here. Don’t you realise? Ever since Geraldine…” Agnes trails off.
“She is odd… I’ve never seen her before,” Herb begins to think. “Yesterday! I think.”
“You see?”
Vision and the doctor breeze past them. “Emergency!” Vision shouts.
“Now they’re all in there… vulnerable,” Agnes says with a dubious look.
“Geraldine isn’t…” It’s not her. Bucky knows this. It’s not Geraldine that has caused the chaos in their world. This world.
“Isn’t what? I personally don’t trust her.”
“Maybe it’s you who shouldn’t be trusted. You’re puttin’ thoughts in my head. I- you got no right to do that. Who are you?”
Agnes shakes her head. “Oh no, sugar. I’m not the one putting thoughts in your head. I’m freeing you.”
“Thank you, doctor!” Vision calls as the doctor leaves. “Howdy neighbours!”
“Howdy!” Agnes says in an upbeat tone.
“Hey!” Herb responds.
Bucky is frozen.
“What do ya say soldier?” Agnes whispers. “Cat got your tongue?”
“Remarkable day we’re having, no?” Vision approaches.
“Do you think he knows?” Agnes asks the two men.
Herb shrugs, avoiding looking at Vision.
“Did you lose power too?”
“Oh, sure did. But Ralph looks better in the dark so I’m not complaining,” Agnes chuckles.
Vision grins superficially. “Hi Herb. Bucky,” he acknowledges the two quiet men.
“Hey buddy.”
“Vision,” Bucky smiles hesitantly. His mind far away.
After the awkwardness, Vision nods. Clearly the neighbours aren’t feeling up to conversation. “I’ll get back to Wanda.”
“Vision,” Agnes calls. “Is Geraldine… still inside with Wanda?”
“Yes. Why?” Vision frowns.
“She’s new to town. Brand new,” Herb says.
“There’s no family,” Agnes adds, her hand on her hip. “No husband…”
“There’s nothing wrong with that,” Vision defends though he does start to wonder. He looks to Bucky who stares at the ground in a deep frown.
Agnes hums, her bright blue eyes piercing Vision. “No home.”
He blinks, confused. “What? He steps closer to them. “What do you mean she has no home?”
“She came here because… she came here because-“ Herb stutters but he can’t complete the sentence.
Agnes sighs and shakes her head hurriedly.
“She came here because we’re all…”
“She came here because we’re all what?” Vision asks, impatiently. “What are you trying to tell me?”
“She came here because we’re all-“
“Stop it.” It’s Bucky who interrupts Herb.
“Well, I better get going. That macrame’s not gonna hitch itself,” Agnes says, picking up her bike and walking away. The job is done.
“Herb?” Vision prompts.
He merely chuckles. “Catch ya on the flip side, Vision.”
“Why don’t we go inside, Vision?” Bucky offers.
Y/N leaves her neighbours and husband and enters the house, seeing an even bigger Wanda.
“Y/N! My water broke and I’m getting contractions -real ones, this time!”
“It’s okay, Wanda, just breathe!” Y/N recites the breathing technique and Wanda follows after her.
Out of nowhere the doorbell rings. They two friends look at each other.
“Who could that be?” Y/N asks.
Wanda shrugs her shoulders with wide eyes then she looks down at her belly.
“Jacket! Put on a jacket!” Y/N whispers as she goes to the door.
Wanda hurriedly waddles to the closet opening it up and floats a trench coat around her.
“Geraldine! Hello!” Y/N says unnecessarily loud, she looks back at Wanda with even wider eyes. She turns back and spots Bucky in the driveway who raises his arms in defense and mouths a ‘sorry!’ she narrows her eyes at him.
“Wanda! Y/N!” Geraldine greets. “It’s 75 degrees, are you making a fashion statement?” she remarks as she takes note of Wanda’s not very appropriate attire.
“Um, Geraldine now’s not really a good time,” Wanda says attempting to chase her away.
“Oh it’s foxy, I love the colour on you! But actually, I need to borrow a bucket!” she says, entering the residence.
“Uhh…” Y/N says closing the door.
“All the pipes in my ceiling burst! I just gotta bail myself outta this one.”
“Oh oh ohh! Alright you stay right there!” Wanda goes toward the kitchen to hide but also be a helpful neighbour.
“Are you alright?” Geraldine calls out after hearing Wanda exclaim from what was probably a contraction. “Is she alright?” She turns to Y/N who is about to answer until she spots a stork… coming… from the… nursey.
“No it’s okay!” Wanda responds.
“I’ll come help!” Geraldine asks and Y/N can’t stop her as she thinks of how to hide a stork.
“No… no,” Y/N says to the stork who attempts to enter the living room. Do storks bite?
She waves her arms to usher it back into the nursery, Wanda can just poof it away once Geraldine is gone. “Please,” she whispers to the stork as if it could understand her. “this really isn’t the best time!”
“Bingo!” Y/N hears Geraldine.
“This is crazy.” She grabs a throw pillow, attempting to fan the stork back and just as she gets it towards the doorway it pecks her. She yelps but it runs right past her.
As Geraldine tells Wanda about her temp job the stork approaches them. Y/N gets up and is behind the stork, not knowing what else to do.
“Boo!” Geraldine finishes her story.
“Boo!” Wanda says throwing an apple at the stork causing it to clack and waddle away.
“What was that?” Geraldine asks in a serious tone. “Did you hear that?”
Y/N makes her way down. “hear what?”
“It was like a chattering sound like-“
“Oh you mean like ch-ch-ch-ch-ch?” Y/N cuts her off.
“Yeah…” Geraldine says, still suspicious.
“That’s my new ice maker built right into the fridge,” Wanda responds rigidly, improvising.
Y/N recoils and almost laughs. Who would believe in such an invention?
“How fancy!” Geraldine laughs sitting back down and resuming her story.
Y/N notices Wanda begins to breathe rhythmically.
“So what was your question, Geraldine?” Y/N asks.
“Oh yes! Wanda, do you still keep office supplies in your spare room? I gotta stock up for my new corporate job!”
“WAIT!” Wanda and Y/N exclaim as Geraldine wanders in.
“Is that what I think it is?”
Y/N notices the stork perfectly posed against the painting she finished earlier. “Oh yes, a stork, we can explain-“ she starts.
“No, silly the crib!”
Wanda drops the flower vase she was holding to cover herself. “The baby’s coming!”
“You’re pregnant?!”
They usher her back to the living room and that’s when the commotion begins within all the inanimate objects in the vicinity.
“Oh, I think I’m just gonna lay down, here.” Wanda drops slowly to the floor and Geraldine runs around to get supplies as Y/N places pillows under her head.
“Vi-Vision ran to get the doctor!”
“There’s no time, hey hey look at me!” Geraldine says. “Y/N get blankets,” she orders without breaking eye contact with Wanda.
Upon Y/N’s return she gives Geraldine a blanket and hangs the spare on the back of the couch. Geraldine wraps the baby in the blanket and passes him to Wanda. Y/N smiles down at her best friend and newest nephew.
“He’s perfect.”
Vision and the doctor arrive a second later.
“Oh, no. I missed it,” Vision says though he can’t be upset seeing the smile of his wife and his newborn son.”
“Um, doc let’s get you something to drink,” Y/N says as she notices the shaky doctor.
She pours a glass of lemonade for the doctor.
“We went so fast, it felt like we were flying,” he says in wonder.
Y/N and Geraldine share a look then hear screaming.
After the chaos of two childbirths Vision holds Tommy while Y/N dotes on Billy.
“Twenty fingers and twenty toes! Two healthy baby boys!” Dr. Nielson smiles.
“Allow me to walk you to the door, doctor,” Vision says passing Tommy to Wanda.
They thank the doctor as he takes his leave.
“You are such a strong lady, Wanda,” Geraldine says.
Wanda scoffs humbly.
“She’s right, Wands. That was tough!” Y/N smiles as she puts Billy down next to Tommy in their crib.
“Can you believe it? Twins!” They three dote on them as they coo sleepily.
“I’m a twin…” Wanda states, sentimentally. She looks off into the distance, reminiscing. “I had a brother. His name was Pietro.” Y/N know how hard Wanda finds it to talk about her brother so she squeezes Wanda’s hand comfortingly.
She notices Geraldine’s demeanor change, as if she had just uncovered something she didn’t even know she was looking for. As Wanda sings a sokovian song, the gears in her head turn.
“He was killed by Ultron, wasn’t he?” Y/N notes Geraldine’s change of cadence and tone. “And Y/N… you died retrieving that stone.” She doesn’t understand what that means, doesn’t remember but she knows it was the wrong thing to say to Wanda who frowns, confused.
Her heart drops. “Wanda… what is she talking about?”
“What did you just say?” Wanda asks though she heard quite clearly as a tear slowly falls. With no response, Wanda turns to face Geraldine, letting go of Y/N’s hand. She wants to speak but she can’t, stunned. “What did you say just now?” there’s a harshness to Wanda’s voice. Anger behind it.
Geraldine’s brows furrow and she smiles as if she hadn’t just said what she did. She’s afraid, Y/N realizes. “I said, Wanda, you’re such a strong lady!” she recites what she commented earlier holding her hands in joy. She lets go too quickly though, making her emotions clear.
“Should I say it one more time for good measure?” she giggles and puts some distance between herself and Wanda, sitting on the couch.
“No. What did you say about Pietro and Y/N?” Wanda asks firmly.
“Pietro?” she asks softly. Tommy starts to cry as if sensing the emotional shift in the room, interrupting Geraldine’s thoughts. “Hey, I’ll take a shift rocking the babies.”
Wanda puts an arm out in defense. “No, I think you should leave.”
“Oh, Wanda. Don’t be like that.” Geraldine says defensively. Suspiciously.
Wanda’s eyes shift to the necklace Geraldine wears. “What is that? That symbol?”
Y/N feels like a member of the audience as she watches the scene before her unfold, wanting answers but unable to interfere so she rocks the crib instead to calm the babies down.
“I- I…” Geraldine stutters.
“Who are you? Who. Are. You?” she asks again.
“Wanda…” she trembles. “I’m just your neighbour.”
“Then how did you know about Ultron? And the stones?”
There’s no answer. Which is enough for Wanda to deduce a threat. Her hands lift and red bursts of energy sing from them.
“Wanda…” Y/N says, unsure.
“You’re not my neighbour,” Wanda ignores her friend. “And you’re definitely not my friend. You are a stranger and an outsider.” Her voice trembles with rage. “And right now, you are trespassing here.”
“Wanda don’t do this,” Y/N whispers.
“And I want you to leave.” She throws Geraldine through the walls and out of Westview.
“Wanda,” Y/N approaches her friend slowly. “Where did you put her?”
She pants softly and fixes the wholes in the wall. It looks as if nothing had happened, every book on the shelf untouched.
“You don’t have to worry about that, dear,” she smiles softly, comfortingly.
“What did she mean? Just tell me, you know you can trust me. You’re my best friend,” Y/N pleads.
“Yes, I am. Which is why I have to protect you.” Wanda pushes a lock of hair away from Y/N’s eyes, a gesture a big sister would do for her little sister. “You are part of my family. My chosen family. And I couldn’t protect you then so I will protect you now.” Another tear falls from Wanda’s eyes. “I’m so sorry, my dear.”
Wanda moves her hands to Y/N’s temple and she feels a weight lifted off her mind. I have to do this, Wanda tells herself. For you.
Vision enters the house in a hurry, followed by Bucky who calmly walks in, juxtaposing his taller counterpart, to be met with an eerily happy scene. Y/N and Wanda look over the twins who are cooing and giggling, calmer now.
“Wanda… where’s Geraldine?”
“Oh, she left honey. She had to rush home.”
“Speaking of home, I better get back to mine!” Y/N grins. “You better let me babysit my nephews!” She hugs Wanda and then Vision goodbye.
“Hey, how did it go?!” Bucky asks.
“We’ll drop by tomorrow! Then you can see their squishy little faces!” Y/N says excitedly.
Bucky smiles though half heartedly which is not lost on Y/N.
“What is it, sweetheart?”
“Nothing. Just…” Bucky sighs. “Wish we had our own squishy little faces.” It’s not the truth, not really. But he can’t tell her that.
“Our time will come.” She wraps her arms around him and he hugs her back. “I love you. So much.” He says this a lot now, she realizes. And every time he does, the heavier it sounds.

Chapter 1 ~ Chapter 2 ~ Chapter 3
Chapter Summary: Nightmares and memories return and Wanda is confronted by Bucky.
Chapter 4: JUST... A PARADISE
The big battle is over yet he still hasn’t found her amidst all the chaos.
“Natasha, where’s Y/N?” he asks his closest team mate.
“Bucky…” she sighs almost sorrowfully? “She-“ Nat cuts herself off, something else has gotten her attention. “No,” she whispers.
Bucky turns to follow her gaze and sees Tony Stark. The cause of their victory. The two slowly approach, observing his interaction with Pepper and then Peter, he knows that Tony considered him a son. Bucky feels… guilt. He never got to apologise for what he did as the Winter Soldier and now he never will. He, as well as the other Avengers, kneels to honour the brave man, hoping he finally knows peace.
Steve spots Bucky and walks toward his best friend. “Buck…” he whispers as he hugs him tightly.
“Steve… have you seen Y/N? I’ve been lookin’ for her everywhere,” he asks desperately.
Steve’s eyes shift to Natasha’s. She shakes her head subtly.
“I,” Steve starts. “I’m sorry, Buck. We-we didn’t know. We-“
“Didn’t know what?”
“On our mission to get the-the stones,” he sniffs. “she went to get the soul stone-“
“What does this have to do with right now? Steve, just tell me.”
“There was a price,” Natasha adds, her eyes tearing up all over again. “And she… she was willing to pay it. I tried. I tried so hard to stop her. To be the one but she-she didn’t let me.”
Bucky begins to pant. “What are saying?”
“She’s gone, Bucky. She made a sacrifice, for us, for all of us and… I’m so sorry.”
Bucky just stands there, staring at nothing. Processing. He barely registers that Steve’s arms are wrapped around him again but they’re not enough to hold him up as his legs give way beneath him. The one person that kept him going, that gave him life again, that he believed would always be there was gone.
Bucky wakes with a start, sweating and panting. He hasn’t had a nightmare since being in Westview – no, that wasn’t a nightmare. It was a memory. All his memories are nightmares.
“Sweetheart, what is it?” Y/N asks groggily as she turns to face him.
“Nothing, I’m sorry for waking you, doll.” He kisses her softly, passionately as if she’s going to disappear if he stops. His hand travels to the back of her head and he feels… a wetness. Bucky frowns, pulling away. “Doll?” He nears his hand to his face to see what it is. Even in the pale moonlight, he knows what it is. Something so familiar from his past life. Blood. “Y/N –“
“What is it, honey?”
He looks back at her but her face is different. It’s pasty, almost grey. Her eyes are cloudy and blood seeps from between her lips.
She feels cold.
“No.”
He opens his eyes once again but it’s day time now, the sun peaking through the closed curtains.
“Wakey, wakey, sleepy head,” Y/N smiles as she lifts the duvet from him. She is already dressed for Jazzercise her hair purposefully frizzed and curly and she sports a flashy oversized purple sweater and lilac shorts and yellow sneakers, ready to start the day.
“Wh-what?” he asks, disoriented.
“Are you alright? Are you hot? You’ve slept in till,” she checks her pink and white Strücker watch. “Almost noon!”
He looks down at the sweat dripping from his chest. “Y-yeah, sorry.”
“No worries. I think…” she crawls over the bed. “it’s…” she finally reaches him. “sexy,” she smirks and leans over to kiss him.
“I love you,” he smiles, simply gazing into her eyes.
“Get in line,” she teases which earns her a slap on the ass. “You’re naughty, Mister.”
“Whatcha gonna do about it, Mrs. Barnes?”
“You’re funny. But, thanks to your sleeping in we have no time for that. You’re gonna be late for work!”
“Work?” he asks, frowning.
She gets off the bed and collects the laundry basket from their connecting bathroom.
“It’s Saturday.”
“No it’s not, it’s Monday, silly goose,” she calls out as she descends the stairs.
Bucky’s brows furrow. He’s pretty sure it’s supposed to be Saturday. He gets dressed nevertheless.
“I need you to just swing these over to Wanda’s,” Y/N says as she sees him coming down the stairs. “It’s just a little something to make her feel better. I heard the twins crying last night, I’m sure no one in that house got any sleep.” She smiles and hands him a tupperware box of lavender and lemon cookies. “Oh, and here’s your lunch!” In another box is a sandwich, prosciutto and mozzarella with a hint of pesto aioli!
“Thank you, doll. Love you,” he kisses her cheek and walks out the door.
He rings the doorbell of the Maximoff house.
“Bucky?” Wanda frowns in surprise.
“Y/N asked me to drop these by on my way to work.” He lifts up the basket. “And I need to talk to you.”
“Sure, come on in.” He does and sets the basket on the kitchen island.
He catches a glimpse of two children and a dog playing outside in their backyard. He raises a brow. “Let me guess, magic?”
“An oversimplification but yes. What is it?”
“I just want answers. How could you do this?”
“What are you talking about?”
“HYDRA messed with my mind for 70 years and you do this? To me? How could you? You of all people should understand what it’s like,” he doesn’t know when the memories came back to him just that they did.
“Bucky… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Wanda says defensively.
He shakes his head. “This is dangerous, Wanda. You’re hurting people.”
“Hurting people? I thought you would understand. All of this… I had to do it. The grief, the sadness, the emptiness. I thought you would get it. You were the only one who lost everyone, too. You know what I feel. I thought you would understand but it’s clear you don’t. You’re not gonna take this from me, Bucky. From us. Westview is better like this. The people here are happier. You and I, we are happier. How could you want to go back to that other place? A place where you and I don’t have Y/N and Vision is gone.” Her eyes water and her voice shakes. From anger or sadness, he isn’t sure. Probably both. Because that’s how he feels right now. “This, here, is the perfect life. You get to live through all those decades that you lost while being the Soldier. You get to have new, better, kinder memories of them instead of the torture you lived through. You were all alone and now you’re not. Didn’t you feel amazing, lighter, when you could see her again? Feel her again? Here, there isn’t anything that could hurt her. No responsibilities to the universe, no troubles just… a paradise. Peace. Don’t you feel at peace, Bucky?”
She sways him with her pitch because… every single word is true. But that doesn’t make it right, does it? “That’s… that’s not the point.” He feels his eyes beginning to water as remembers the hopelessness he felt when Steve and Natasha told him what happened.
“But it is. That’s the only point. I wouldn’t be doing this if I knew you didn’t feel the same as me. We were snapped away only to come back and find out that the person we love… died for us. I can’t bring back the dead there but here,” she takes a shuddering breath. “here we can have. Her. Back. What’s wrong with that?”
Their conversation is interrupted by a rumbling sound outside which they both pick up. Suddenly the dog from outside runs in through the kitchen and stops at the front door.
“Sparky!” the twins yell.
“Something’s wrong,” Bucky whispers to Wanda.
She opens the front door and Sparky runs out. In the sky outside, they are met with a drone.
“Wanda, this is Captain Monica Rambeau. Can you hear me?” A voice comes from the drone. A familiar one…
“Geraldine?” Bucky asks.
“I just wanna talk, that’s it.”
“Bucky. Go to work,” Wanda commands.
He is about to argue but the next thing he knows he’s in the office.
“So you’re telling me, this is a type writer, a Rolodex and a calendar all in one?” Norm says sat at a boxy computer. “What else can it do, find me a wife?”
“Eventually, yes,” Vision kids.
There is a beeping and trilling as they play with the computer and Bucky merely observes.
“Hey, look! We got electronic mail already!”
“It’s just email, Norm,” Bucky corrects with a smirk.
“S.W.O.R.D. Top secret communique. Authenticate. Dr. Darcy Lewis’ findings regarding Maximoff Anomaly. High levels of radiation present at perimeter. Effect on Westview residents unknown. Please advise,” All the people in the office recite then being to laugh. Bucky frowns. The name Darcy Lewis sounds familiar… what Maximoff Anomaly?
“Vision…” Bucky says, unsure of what the synthezoid is thinking.
He lifts his hands to the temples of Norm. “You don’t know what that’ll do –“
Norm grunts. “Please. Please help me. What day is it? How long has it been?” Bucky walks closer to the two. “Where’s my phone? I have to call my sister! She’s taking care of our dad, he’s sick.”
“Norm.”
“Where is my phone?” Norm yells out of frustration.
“Calm yourself, Norm. I can’t understand what you’re telling me.”
“You have to stop her.”
“Stop who?” Bucky prompts.
“She’s in my head. None of it is my own. It hurts. It hurts so much. Just make her stop. MAKE HER STOP –“
Vision presses his hands to Norm’s temples again and he calms in an instant.
“Now tell me this. If I send an email, where would I put the stamp?” he jokes.
Bucky and Vision share a look. “What’s happening, Vision?”
“I… I don’t know.” He shakily makes his way back to his chair, shaking his head. “I don’t know.”
Soon enough the work day is over and Bucky starts his journey home.
He unlocks the door and is met with plenty of food on the table and his gorgeous wife.
“Hello, honey. How was work?”
“It was…” he can never tell her. “it was great, doll. That looks amazing,” he smiles his charming smile.
“It tastes even better!”
He puts his bag down and pulls the chair out for her.
How can he complain about being here when here means that he has her back?

Y/N wakes up and her eyes fall to the gorgeous man that she proudly calls her husband. He looks so peaceful as he sleeps and she’s thankful for it. Ever since Dennis the mailman asked how his nightmares were she keeps mulling it over. Did Bucky have nightmares but didn’t tell her? Why not? She brings her hand up to caress his face. It doesn’t look like he’s having a nightmare…
“You’re staring,” he suddenly says while his eyes are still closed.
She jumps, not expecting him to wake up. “You think it’s creepy, I think it’s romantic.”
“Everything you do is romantic,” he replies cheekily.
“That didn’t make sense,” she teases.
“Oh. Oh, really? Okay you know what doesn’t make sense?” He goads.
“What?” Y/N giggles.
“How you could be awake so early after the night we had,” he then rolls on top of her and kisses her neck with loads of tiny pecks, the last one lasting longer, feeling more passionate.
“We can’t do this now, we have to go to the pumpkin patch and pick out pumpkins!”
“For what?” he groans.
“It’s Halloween, silly.” She gently pushes Bucky off who rolls back into his pillow.
“The things I do for you.”
She gets up from bed to have a shower.
“Can I join you?” he calls after her.
“No! Or else the good pumpkins will be gone!”
He huffs and gets up to make the bed. “Good pumpkins? Are there bad pumpkins? Evil pumpkins?” he mumbles.
Bucky decides to make himself a coffee and Y/N a cup of tea while still in his pyjamas. He takes a sip and stares out the window that looks into Y/N’s garden. She had always said she wished she could take care of a plant, between undercover missions and training new recruits at the SHIELD Academy of Operations back when SHIELD was a thing she never could keep one alive for very long. Bucky wonders what she did in her spare time in the five years he was… away. Was she happy? Did she move on? Did she hates him for leaving her?
“Hey,” Y/N pops out down in a… super spy costume.
“You look…” familiar. “Smokin,” he flirts.
She laughs and does a 360 spin. “Of course I do.” She puts up finger guns. “Pow pow,” she points at him.
“Agh, someone call an ambulance!” Bucky says playing along. “But not for me!” he picks her up spinning her around.
She laughs at him. “Your costume is upstairs on the bed!”
“My costume?”
“Yeah! What, you thought you were going out in cargo pants and a flannel with some graphic tee?” She puts her hands on her hips. “I don’t think so, soldier.”
“What?” he looks up suddenly from his cup of coffee.
“Dang it, I ruined the surprise! Go! Get dressed! And thank you for the tea.”
She kisses him on the cheek and he slowly makes his way upstairs. He almost drops his mug as he sees a perfect replica of his World War Two uniform. Is this Wanda’s doing?
He gets dressed anyways to make Y/N happy. That’s all that matters to him.
“Well aren’t you quite the charmer.”
Bucky gives his own 360 turn with a goofy smile on his face to match the one on Y/N’s. “Alright, doll. Let’s get going. Don’t wanna get the evil pumpkins.”
“Bad pumpkins! As in spoiled ones!” she corrects as he guides her toward the door, picking up the keys on the way out.
They arrive at the pumpkin patch and it’s only a little busy.
“Well heya there,” Phil greets upon seeing Y/N and Bucky.
“Morning’ Phil,” Bucky smiles.
“Hi Dottie,” Y/N says to Phil’s wife who just nods at her with a sickly sweet smile.
“Just getting’ some last-minute gourds for decoratin’! Gotta keep the kiddos busy,” Phil says waving away.
“See you again!” They say their goodbyes and Y/N turns to Bucky.
“I had no idea they had a kid,” she whispers.
Bucky shrugs. “Neither did I. Never saw one in all the time we we’ve been neighbours.” Not that that was very long, Bucky thinks to himself.
Y/N shrugs nonchalantly and reaches for his left hand. “Come on, let’s look around!” They pick up a basket and wander the patch.
Bucky smiles as he watches Y/N, the sun hits her just right and it looks like she’s glowing, her beauty amplified. She carefully considers each pumpkin, what designs would look best on them, which can be made into a pumpkin pie or should just be left alone. She was always good at profiling. That’s what made her one of the best SHIELD assets.
“I like this one but he needs a family. I was thinking these two…” she presents him with a medium sized pumpkin then points to a giant one and then a tiny one.
“A little pumpkin family,” Bucky laughs. He carries the giant one and drops it into the basket.
“Careful! My baby.”
“Yeah it’s the size of a baby, alright,” Bucky huffs then puts the medium pumpkin on top too.
“I’ll hold the tiny baby.”
He chuckles and reaches for her empty hand, squeezing affectionately.
After they’ve paid for their pumpkins they load them into the car and go into the café nearly.
“I’ll have a chai latte with a cheese toastie and snickerdoodles,” Y/N smiles at the waitress.
“And I’ll go for an Americano and almond croissant, please.”
“I’ll have those over soon,” she smiles then walks away rigidly. Strange.
Bucky looks over at the bar and sees the barista just standing… staring at the machine.
“I’m glad it’s not too busy, here,” he says to Y/N, breaking himself out of his thoughts. There’s no harm in this, he says to himself.
“Oh I know! We’re so lucky!” she reaches for his hand and he rubs small circles on her’s with his thumb. “We’re always so lucky. I’m happy you’re here, Bucky.”
He considers for a moment. Is this Y/N or Wanda speaking through Y/N? “So am I.”
They receive their orders and dig in, sharing food and drinks between each other. “You always order something then end up takin’ more of mine!”
“Well I can’t help it, you’ve got great taste,” he flirts, giving her a wink.
“Of course, I do. So do you. Sometimes…” she teases.
“Wh- sometimes?!” he gasps dramatically. “I am offended.”
“You heard me, soldier.”
He stops laughing for a split second, almost doing a double take as he is caught off guard from what she called him. But he recovers quickly. He has to.
“So do you think we’ve got enough candy for the trick or treaters?”
“Definitely, maybe too much. But then I’m not complaining, more for us.”
“You really are my soulmate,” he chuckles. They finish eating and Bucky drives them back home.
They go inside and Y/N sets up the tools for pumpkin carving.
“I wanna do a cat!” Bucky says excitedly.
“I have carving tools, pens and paint!”
Bucky carves on the small pumpkin and Y/N starts on the giant one. She hasn’t revealed what she would be carving on to it, yet. Must be a surprise, Bucky thinks.
“Done,” Bucky states. “I’m calling her… Alpine.”
Y/N walks around the table to see. “Awww so cute! I’m done too!”
She turns the pumpkin to face them both. Bucky gasps quietly as air involuntary enters his lungs. She carved Thanos.
“It’s some monster, I dunno I just thought him up in my head,” she shrugs.
“It’s uh… it’s great honey.” He turns to the last pumpkin to distract himself. “What should we do for this one?
“I was thinking headstones! And a ghost?”
“Yeah, yeah sounds great,” he nods.
They lay out the pumpkins on their porch and Bucky helps to decorate the lawn with statues and fake cobwebs.
“Wanda!” Y/N calls, waving her hand to the redhead who’s carrying the basket Y/N had Bucky take over yesterday.
“Hey! Ooh! I love your costumes and I see you went all out decorating!” Wanda exclaims as she sees her best friend’s lawn as Y/N lugs the giant pumpkin towards the stone wall.
“Doll, now you’re just showing off,” Bucky comments.
“Of course. I don’t need a big strong man like you to do things for me.”
“I… love it,” Wanda says, noting the villain carved on it. “I just wanted to return the basket, those cookies were delicious!” Wanda laughs, mood lifted again. “Do you wanna come over for a drink? There’s someone I want you to meet.”
“Sure thing, Wanda! We’ll come right over!” Wanda hands Y/N the basket and the two put it inside.
They knock on Wanda’s door and wait. A man with silver hair answers almost immediately.
“You must be the neighbours,” he says simply and speeds literally speeds to back to the couch.
“Aunt Y/N! Bucky!” Two excited voices call out and there is an avalanche of hugs coming from very hyper ten year olds.
“Hey!”
“Hey kiddos!” Bucky smiles messing up their hair affectionately.
“Cool costumes! Are you Cat-Woman?” Billy asks.
Y/N frowns, “no I’m an international… super spy!” She holds her fingers like guns and poses. “And Bucky’s a super…”
“Soldier!” The twins finished off.
“Somebody better be bleeding, broken or on fire!” Wanda comes down the stairs in a red leotard, cape and pink tights.
“You look awesome!”
“Whoa, Mom. Are you old Red Riding Hood?” Billy asks.
The grey haired man… grey haired? It’s Pietro, Y/N realises.
“I’m a Sokovian fortune teller,” Wanda says.
“Wow that is so…” Pietro starts.
“Cool!” Tommy exclaims.
“Lame!”
“Lame!”
Wanda rolls her eyes. “Y/N, Bucky this is Pietro my brother. Pietro, my best friend Y/N and her wonderful husband, Bucky.”
“Nice to meet you,” Y/N smiles.
“How ya doing,” Bucky greets.
Vision descends the stairs, sighing wearily in a very interesting getup.
“Sweet costume bro-ham-in-law,” Pietro says teasing him. “Let me guess…traffic light? Half-shucked corn? Oh! A booger!”
“Yes,” Vision replies fed up.
“I like it,” Y/N offers.
“Thank you for humouring and wearing this ridiculous outfit, honey,” Wanda says.
“Well there were no other clothes in my closet so…”
Y/N notes the underlying harshness in his tone and looks at Bucky but while normally reciprocates the look he only stares at the couple. She frowns.
“You are incorrigible, darling.” Vision’s tone switches up. “I know you have a secret thing for Mexican wrestlers!”
“Mi gusta mucho,” Wanda chuckles.
“Chilli con carne!”
“Come watch us play, Y/N!” Billy pulls her towards the couch and she pulls Bucky with her who laughs.
They sit down and start yelling at the avatars in the video game.
“Mom and dad have been, not fighting, just… like, different,” Billy tells Y/N quietly.
Pietro gets up to try and smooth things over and it seems to work.
“There you go. Problem solved. You have a spooky time tonight, kids.”
They say their goodbyes but there’s still some tension as Vision leaves.
“I’m sure they’re alright, Billy.”
“Yeah, sometimes… sometimes parents aren’t on the same page. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t love each other. It’s gonna be okay,” Bucky assures.
“Do you two fight?” he asks innocently.
“Um,” they both look at each other but Y/N can’t recall a time that they did.”
“One time, it was really bad. I… wasn’t there but there was a decision that Aunt Y/N made and… well, if I was there I would have done everything and anything to stop her. It wasn’t a fight but it was a time where we wouldn’t have agreed. But we’re okay, now,” Bucky says squeezing her hand.
“See when two people really love each other, like your mom and dad do, they find a way to figure it out,” Y/N smiles.
Billy nods, reassured. “You guys are the best.”
“So… who’s ready for some trick or treating?!” Pietro yells.
That distracts Billy as both twins whoop and run out the door.
“Wanna watch some horror movies after the boys are tuckered out from trick or treating?” Wanda offers the couple.
“Sure thing! We’ll catch up with you later, Wanda. We’ll hand out our candy to the kids and then meet you at the Town Square Scare.” They both get up and they all walk through the door.
“See ya later! And I have to say again, superspy looks good on you,” Wanda winks.
“I can’t believe you didn’t let me save even just one bag!” Bucky exclaims as the two leave their home once all the sweets were taken.
“I’m sorry, I thought those were reserved for children,” Y/N replies, sarcastically.
“I’m young at heart.”
“You’re an old man.”
They walk hand in hand towards Town Square, only 15 minutes away. The neighbourhood is still bust with kids collecting as much candy as they can.
“So what do you think about Pietro?” Bucky asks.
Y/N shrugs. “I dunno… he looks kinda different to me. Maybe it’s the time that’s gone by. I just know that Wanda and he were super close growing up. Then he… went away.”
Bucky nods, taking it in. The man claiming to be Wanda’s brother seemed off in some way to him and the fact that even Y/N thought so meant something. Maybe… Wanda’s not the one to blame for the shifty things that happen here.
“Ya know, I don’t know how anyone wears these skin-tight leather suits. Imagine a Kevlar, fiberglass blend for actual bullet proofing.”
“Oh, yeah. I’m sure Kevlar is very comfortable,” he says attempting to sound sarcastic in a way that he doesn’t know the experience even though he very much does.
“Hey guys!” Wanda smiles.
“Hey you! How much candy did you guys get!” Bucky asks Tommy and Billy.
“I got more than Billy! And look!” Tommy zooms around the Town Square and stops in front of everyone proudly.
Bucky and Y/N’s eyes widen.
“Wow gee Tommy, you’ve got powers!” Y/N claps.
“So no one else noticed that?” Bucky asks, Y/N playfully slaps his shoulder.
“How exciting!”
“I don’t think I’ll be able to control them now!” Wanda laughs.
Y/N and the twins play around, exploring all the Halloween themed activities and Bucky stays back.
“You’ve done a good job here,” Bucky states to Wanda who sits on a hay bale as Pietro decided to run around with the kids.
“You think?”
“Yeah, the kids are having fun. Y/N… she’s having fun.”
“She always loved Halloween…” Wanda reminisces. “You don’t think it’s wrong anymore?”
“No, I… it’s wrong but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel right. It feels right to be with her again. To talk to her, wake up to her in the mornings again. I’m sorry I snapped at you for this. You were right. We’ve both lost everyone. Since Steve decided to… I don’t know I’ve just felt alone. I always thought I’d have him but I don’t… hate him for leaving. He deserves his own happiness.”
“So do you, Bucky. So do we. After everything we’ve been through and everything that’s been taken from us. We deserve this one good thing.”
Bucky nods. “But these people… Wanda, they’ve done nothing. And now they’re just puppets in our fantasies.”
“I’ve thought about that but,” she sighs, clearly exhausted. “I don’t know what else to do.”
“I understand.”
Y/N notices Billy stops laughing and having fun. Instead he just stares up. He stops Tommy speeding.
“What is it, Billy?” Y/N asks, frowning at the sudden change in his manner.
“Mom!” he shouts and run towards Wanda. “Mom!”
Y/N and Tommy run after him.
“What wrong, Billy?”
He pants, stressed. “I hear dad in my head. He’s in trouble.”
Bucky and Y/N share a worried look and Pietro speeds toward the family.
“I don’t understand. What’s happening to me?”
Wanda bends over to be at eye level with Billy as she holds his hands. “Where is he? Where’s your dad?”
“Hey,” Pietro interrupts. “Don’t sweat it, sis. It’s not like your dead husband can die twice.”
Wanda angrily throws Pietro into a stack of hay bales having enough of his jabs.
Dead? Y/N picks up. She looks at Bucky who gulps, not meeting her eyes.
Wanda turns back to Billy. “Billy, I need you to focus.”
Shuddering, he closes his eyes, concentrating. “I can’t tell. I see these… soldiers. They think he’s dying.”
Wanda stretches her hands and her red powers burst from them.
All Y/N remembers is Bucky reaching for her hand and everyone around them slowing to a stop as red energy envelopes them.
I know there are no pumpkin patches in Westview butttt it was a cute date idea 😂 while still incorporating the creepiness we saw in the episode when Vision went to the outskirts of town 👻

Warnings: The Sadness we’ve been talking about 😶
Summary: Bucky finds himself in the town of WestView where not everything is as it seems. But does that really matter if you find yourself reunited with the one you love?
