Wesley hummed as he closed the door to his SUV staring across the parking lot to his kid’s soccer game. He scanned the crowd of parents looking for one person in particular, he could feel his heart thud just a little faster in anticipation. Just as expected, there she was cheering on their five year old. It’s been six months since their divorced was finalized and it still didn’t feel real. Being in an apartment that he didn’t spent more time than he needed, waking up alone, not hearing their kid yell for him, or yell at all. It didn’t feel real, and truth be told, he hated it. As he walked his way toward the soccer field, he noticed her talking to someone, a man. He felt jealousy flare within, though reminded himself to tone it down. Then he saw the way he laughed and he knew what to do. He walked up beside her as he smiled. “Hi, sorry I’m late.” He told her then holding out his hand to the guy standing far too close for his liking. “I’m her husband, Wes and number nine’s dad.” He smiled with a message in his eyes to fuck off, "You are?”

possible connection: friend, romantic interest (f only), co-worker etc
The idea of going back to war really started circulating his brain when his old commanding officer called him offering him a spot on their task force back in Afghanistan. It’s been a couple weeks since the call came through and the deadline for when he was meant to give word was coming up quick. He hasn’t muttered a word about it, because he was feeling conflicted about the idea himself. When he returned back on American soil, he went through a really tough time. now maybe wasn’t the best moment, but he suddenly gained the courage. “Hey,” He waited until he had their attention. “I just want you to know, I’ve been thinking about going back..” the look of confusion he saw on the others face made his heart sink. He knew what he was about to say would seem like it’s coming out of left field. “with the unit, sergeant Miller called me and offered me a spot on the task force.” As a nervous tick he started fiddling with his watch.
