‘Picturing Independence: A Positive Revolution’ is a year-long production initiative to create a group of short films that celebrate the Sierra Leone of yesterday and today. As a country Sierra Leon [celebrated] its 50th Anniversary of Independence on April 27th 2011.
The films are being created by a group of young Sierra Leoneans who are a part of a film/video collective called WeOwnTV(which roughly translates to “Our Own TV” in Sierra Leonean Krio).

The reopening of school today, marks the start of turn around in the fight against ebola. Most parents are still not sure about sending their kids to school, as the attendance today was not normal. On my way back for Cathedral Primary school, I shared a taxi with a parent who told me that she will not allow her kids to attend school now because she will not want a teacher to call 117 for her child feeling poorly in school. During assembly today at Cathedral Primary School, the head-teacher welcomed the children and admonished them emphasizing the importance of hygienic practices in school and demonstrated regular hand washing with soap. She asked all the children to submit contact numbers for the parents or guardian. As the children departed and marched to their respective classes, the teachers now check their temperature and ask them to wash their hands with soap at the bucket of water which now stands in front of each class. Let's stay vigilant to wipe away this sickness from our country.  - Lansana ‘Barmmy Boy’ Mansaray April 14th, 2015, Freetown, Sierra Leone

Ibrahim Jalloh, son of Mohamed ‘Potho’ Jalloh and Kadiatu Conteh, at 18 months old had tested positive for Ebola.  We filmed him as he was transferred from a holding center to an MSF hospital for treatment. Ibrahim was discharged, Ebola free after 8 days of treatment. He is one of the youngest cases so far to survive!

WeOwnTV Filmmakers filmed a celebration at Tamba Kula wharf in Aberdeen, as the community quarantine officially ended.  The Mayor of Freetown Sam Franklyn Gibson and the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Alieu Momodu Pat-Sow were both present.  We interviewed Ebola survivors from the original fishing boat, as well as joyous community members throughout the day. www.weowntv.org
