CHRISTMAS PANIC IN FREETOWN The first merry Christmas celebration after the declaration of the country free of the deadly Ebola virus in Sierra Leone. It could be recalled that over the last 18months, Sierra Leoneans were totally unhappy, frustrated and suppressed by the deadly Ebola outbreak. To many nationals this festive season could have been the most remarkable, enjoyable and happy holidays; not only for the festive season but for the triumph over the evil Ebola scourge. The big question now is, how would this happen when there is a gross drop in the economy? People are not happy, this year's celebration is very boring because the majority is suffering among the affluent in the society. The tradition of having food and drinks during celebration is not prevalence in this year's festivity. We want to suggest to the President that the restoration plan accordingly to the post Ebola recovery plan should first target: easy access to quality food and reasonable cost, immense boost in the economy, profound attention to education, creation of more job facilities and youth empowerment and the health sector. #endofebola # merry Christmas #sweetsalone #wearesurvivours by Abdulai K Koroma.

‘Picturing Independence: A Positive Revolution’ is a year-long production initiative to create a group of short films that celebrate the Sierra Leone of yesterday and today. As a country Sierra Leon [celebrated] its 50th Anniversary of Independence on April 27th 2011.
The films are being created by a group of young Sierra Leoneans who are a part of a film/video collective called WeOwnTV(which roughly translates to “Our Own TV” in Sierra Leonean Krio).

WeOwnTV’s Arthur Pratt and Barmmy Boy traveled with a character in our film, Foday Koroma AKA Superb the King, to Cathedral Primary School for his first day of school.
For Foday, his absence has been even longer than the Ebola-related school closure. He has been living on the streets for the past 4 years, and just recently reconciled with his family and returned to school.
After spending some time with him, the school teacher approached Arthur and Barmmy and said, “I know him, he was in my class, very smart and intelligent boy, but he just disappeared.” The teacher then turned to Foday, “Are you back again? Are you here to stay?” and Foday answered, “Yes Ma.”

The reopening of school today, marks the start of turn around in the fight against ebola. Most parents are still not sure about sending their kids to school, as the attendance today was not normal. On my way back for Cathedral Primary school, I shared a taxi with a parent who told me that she will not allow her kids to attend school now because she will not want a teacher to call 117 for her child feeling poorly in school. During assembly today at Cathedral Primary School, the head-teacher welcomed the children and admonished them emphasizing the importance of hygienic practices in school and demonstrated regular hand washing with soap. She asked all the children to submit contact numbers for the parents or guardian. As the children departed and marched to their respective classes, the teachers now check their temperature and ask them to wash their hands with soap at the bucket of water which now stands in front of each class. Let's stay vigilant to wipe away this sickness from our country. - Lansana ‘Barmmy Boy’ Mansaray April 14th, 2015, Freetown, Sierra Leone

Ibrahim Jalloh, son of Mohamed ‘Potho’ Jalloh and Kadiatu Conteh, at 18 months old had tested positive for Ebola. We filmed him as he was transferred from a holding center to an MSF hospital for treatment. Ibrahim was discharged, Ebola free after 8 days of treatment. He is one of the youngest cases so far to survive!
