I thought too much about it and now I can't choose because they all work together...
day and night is controlled by the sun but the moon can still be there. she can accompany him during the day and she needs his light to shine at night. one doesn't exclude the other.
red and blue are the two colours most often used at competition with each other. but purple still exists. when they touch they blend and mix together in ways too beautiful to ever build an impenetrable wall between them.
light and dark felt like it was going to be my most likely choice. but then i remembered the way my room can be dark and yet the light in the hallway still seeps under and around the door and then the room is neither one or the other.
fire and ice also feels like a strong contender; fire melts ice, ice smothers fire, and there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. and yet putting a campfire or a burner in an igloo, rather than destroying it, will melt the ice and snow just enough to strengthen it into a perfectly insulated shell against the weather. they are still capable of working together.
what are angels and devils if not the same beings in different molds? they may disagree, but i think in their very essence they are identical. they can't exist without each other in the same way as a single sports team with no-one to play the game against.
life and death also come as a pair. without life there is no death, and without death there is no life - no true life, at least; nothing meaningful without that motivation of inevitability. they can't be separated, and so they can't compete.
fear and love have never been opposites. a parent scared for their child's safety because of love. extreme sports that people still do despite the danger because they love the thrill of fear and adrenaline that it brings. nervousness over new relationships, rooted in excitement for a future together. anxiousness over loving someone or something that you shouldn't. while you can experience one without the other, the fact the you can experience both simultaneously is stronger in this argument.
good and evil are often subjective. one person can do something that another can interpret as evil, but if it was done in the belief that it was truly the most moral thing to do, where does that leave us? of course morals can be misguided, but there still exists a blurred crossover between the two.
heart and mind are still both parts of a being. they can contradict each other in what they tell you, but they are still both you. You shouldn't always have to choose between one or the other.
