One of the many benefits of gardening is that you get to know the plants at every step of their life cycle, which often means different tastes, textures and culinary options. Early purple sprouting purple broccoli can be eaten all year round, and gives especially in the spring the beautiful purple inflorescences, which are eaten raw or lightly cooked. This broccoli was sown in the spring of 2020. Its first season it grows large with full-bodied leaves. The following year it blooms and then sets seeds. By this time in June, the cabbages begin to form seed shells and in July and August you can harvest the seeds. This is done by cutting stems when they are brown and dry and before the shells open and tiny seeds are sprinkled to the ground. Gather the stems in a cloth bag (cotton cloth is good for that) and tie a light knot. Lay it on the floor and step a few times over the bag so that the small shells are mashed and the seeds roll out into the bag. Shake the bag until the seeds gather at the bottom. Remove the plant parts and store the seeds in a container - dry and dark - until they are to be sown again in the coming season. #seeds #kitchengardenseeds #copenhagenseeds #organicseeds #seedsaving #growseeds #seedbreeding #seedpropagation #frø #friefrø #seedfreedom #wedonotwantpatentsonseeds #nopatentsonnature #mothernature #biodiversity #dyrkdinby #dyrkfrø #instagardeners #weloveseeds #seedsaving #lejre #køkkenhave #heirlooms (at Lejre, Roskilde) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQGBnQChTc5/?utm_medium=tumblr
