You've had toast thrown at you? That is sitcom level Haha. I worked as a barista during undergrad. Clients were bad but never as bad as what you described haha. Have there been good experiences?

lmao yeah man shits crazy over there and yeah plenty. I’ve met a ton of great people, met a very big guy in law enforcement who gave me his card and said he’d help me out once I got my masters degree.

What's the worse customer you've dealt with?

hahah oh god well where I work its all ipads so they have to put their orders in through them. So a lot of them get irritated and yell about it saying they refuse to use it and i’m like okay but you HAVE to use it. I’ve had someone basically throw toast at me, had others get pissed cause their card won’t work. Others get mad cause I can’t serve liquor until 9 am, 12 pm on sundays. My favorite though is when they have a flight to catch in like 20 minutes but still sit down to order and eat and are screaming at me when their well done burger isn’t ready. Like i’m sorry first if you don’t have time for a sit down meal don’t come here and second I am not the chef so quit screaming at me about your food.

Oh boy. That sounds stressful. Is it difficult to be a bartender too?

not at all lol I love bartending, the money is incredible, my co-workers are so damn fun, love my managers, the customers can be annoying as fuck sometimes but that comes with the territory.

What are the horror stories? Do people get attacked?

Usually the inmates aren’t trying to attack the psychologist, but there’s times the psychologist is caught in the cross-fire. Like an inmate trying to get at a CO, throwing things, including feces, and also getting psychical.

Your own practice? That's way beyond cool. You're gonna be making the big bucks 😎. What changes your mind?

hahah I hope so, gotta build up my clientele first. And idk heard some horror stories, and i’m a little person, like no muscle nothing so having shit thrown at me and punches thrown my way isn’t the most glamorous career choice. Maybe working with them coming out of prison and reentering into society may be a better option rather than working with them directly in prison

If you look at like that then it sounds bad haha. I like it because I get to do math and physics while I get paid. I might go into industry after I graduate though. The pay would be better. What kind of job would you like to have?

Oh god, math and physics….my literal hell hahah I could never ever understand any of that. You are beyond intelligent and you should 100% shoot for a career in that field, you’ll love it and the pay is crazy hahha and I originally wanted to work with the criminal population now I have my sights set on opening my own practice

Why do you hate research?

Just never been into it tbh, it’s a lot of nitty gritty work with data and publishing and making sure every little thing is thought through, the ethics behind everything, just a ton of things to remember and do in order for it to even be publisher worthy. Not to mention in psych in order for it to mean anything, having it recognized by the APA is another impossible feat.

It's definitely worth it. The teaching part isn't always great but the perks are fantastic. Are you thinking of going into research?

Yeah I’m sure, just to be able to say I got it is enough for me. And no not at all, I hate research which is why I wouldn’t get a PhD, i’d get a PsyD which is more clinical based rather than research. Only downfall is I have to pay for it
