goddd the waititi/clement wwdits-verse is sooo important like between wwdits 2014 and wellington paranormal and the wwdits tv show it's just so.. fun? and good? they effortlessly take these mythological figures that are supposed to represent fear and otherness, ostracized for their desires, their changes, their sickness, and make them so perfectly and beautifully human! they're all so full of care and love. every part of the universe is, when it comes down to it, about families and friendship and finding community and protecting those you care about and trusting that they'll protect you and not being afraid of who you are or who you might be because there will always be someone there to help you get back up on your feet. and aside from how hilarious the comedic beats are there is so much drama woven in to these characters without it ever feeling cheap, you are allowed to know what awful things these creatures have done and see the way they try to live kinder and more joy-filled lives and watch as the human beings in these stories are more monstrous than the supposed monsters. but it's all done in the name of happiness and comedy and love and none of it feels heavy-handed. there are pieces of genius social commentary scattered throughout that hit so perfectly in rhythm with the comedy, it just feels natural! everything about the cinematic universe of wwdits is so full of light, it's so refreshing. everything about it feels so easy and kind, it respects its audience and their intelligence and their sense of humor more than I've ever seen a piece of media do before I just! yknow!

I gotta know, are you kiwi? like i've never seen you post anything saying you are, but you love wwdits and wellington paranormal and ofmd and stuff which is very much kiwi media and the idea of someone who is not from new zealand just, discovering it all and pretty much dedicating a tumblr blog to it is something i struggle to comprehend. This is a blog dedicated to my culture and the idea of it being run by an american or something is baffling

oh wow, what a fascinating question, I'd never thought of it like that! I am american, not from nz at all lol. I know a lot of the themes of the wwdits-verse and ofmd are deeply new zealand in nature though and I really love reading about how much it means to indigenous people and stuff, especially with taika being māori. I guess something about kiwi media just really resonates with me haha!

I had the wwdits tv show recommended to me after watching silicon valley, and then I watched ofmd and eventually the movie and wellington paranormal, but in general I don't have a bunch of sideblogs or anything, so this blog just becomes dedicated to whatever my current fixation is! I hope I haven't been insensitive in any way or stepped out of place with any of my commentary, always let me know if I'm out of line or should be more informed on something cultural!
