Corset is finished, pics tomorrow maybe. It doesn't fit quite right - it curves outwards at the top even though it's meant to be underbust, and I do Not have enough flesh to fill it. But it's surprisingly close, given that it was designed for people with a, uh, different body type to mine.
#i will make another i think but not for a while#bc i'd like to do it with actual proper materials and do it Right#but i have at least taught myself that i can do it and learned how they go together so it'll be easier next time#corset#corsetry#sewing#(what materials DID you use kes i hear you ask#well. the boning is cable ties. the lacing is my old boot laces. the structural layer is an elderly stained tablecloth.)#(all the fabric is secondhand as is the binding and most of the thread)

At long last, the corset photoshoot!
Pattern: Amelia Waspie Corset by Ora Lin on Kofi Fashion fabric: several different quilting cottons, all sourced secondhand on ebay Structural fabric: an old tablecloth from a charity shop Lining fabric: some random cream cotton or cotton/linen blend, also charity shop Other: bias binding was secondhand on ebay, bones were cheap cable ties, lacing my boot laces that I've been meaning to switch out for my old boot laces forever
100% hand-sewn. Here it is off my body:
Verdict under the cut.
Well, folks, it doesn't fit right. Which I expected, tbh - absolutely not a fault with the pattern, it's just built expecting someone to have certain anatomical features I lack, or be willing to pad out the figure to simulate them. Also, I had a nightmare getting the pattern to print correctly so I was semi-guessing* at the right size. But this is how we learn! It will enable me to do a better job next time.
It flares out noticeably at the top - the photoshoot was only achieved with the aid of my biggest, floofiest shirt and a beautiful, enormous scarf my partner gave me - and tends to ride up, and doesn't come down far enough to cushion the waistbands of any of my trousers. It is also just a tiny bit too big in general; I would've preferred to have a lacing gap so I can test how tight is comfortable for me. Also, could have done with a lot more boning; it still tends to buckle both at my bending points and in the places the lacing puts strain on it.
HOWEVER - it is perfectly comfortable, leaving aside that it doesn't do what I wanted it to to improve the comfort of my trousers! Tested by running around after a small child and playing on the beach in it.
*I did maths about it! My maths is not to be 100% trusted.
