Welcome to Something Eternal: A Website Forum in 2023 wtf lmao
It's 2023, and a single belligerent rich guy destroyed one of the primary focal points of uh...global communication. Tumblr is, shockingly, kinda thriving despite the abuse it gets from its owners, but that I will call the iconic refusal of Tumblr users to let Tumblr get in the way of their using Tumblr. Reddit killed its API, removing the functionality of mobile apps that made it remotely readable (rip rif.) Discord, our current primary hangout, has made countless strange choices lately that indicate it has reached the summit of its usability and functionality, and can only decline from here as changes get made to prepare for shareholders. (NOTE: WROTE THIS POST BEFORE THEIR MOBILE "REDESIGN" LMAO)
The enshittification is intense, and it's coming from every direction. Social media platforms that felt like permanent institutions are instead slowly going to let fall fallow incredible amounts of history, works of art, thought, and fandoms. It kinda sucks!
A couple years ago, I posted about a new plan with a new domain, to focus on the archiving of media content, as I saw that to be the fatal weakness of the current ways the internet and fandoms work. Much has happened since to convince me to alter the direction of those efforts, though not abandon them entirely.
Long story short? We are launching a fucking website forum. In 2023.
If you remember In the Rose Garden, much about Something Eternal will be familiar. But this has been a year in the making, and in many ways it's far more ambitious than IRG was. We have put money on this. The forum is running on the same software major IT and technology businesses use, because I don't want the software to age out of usability within five years. It has an attached gallery system for me to post content to, including the Chiho Saito art collection. It has a profile post system that everyone already on the forum has decided is kinda like mini Twitter? But it is, fundamentally, a website forum, owned and run and moderated by us. We are not web devs. But we have run a website on pure spite and headbutting code for over twenty years, and we have over a decade of experience maintaining social spaces online, both on the OG forum, and on our Discord. Better skilled people with far more time than we have can and will build incredible alternatives to what is collapsing around us. But they're not in the room right now. We are. And you know what? Maybe it's time to return to a clunkier, slower moving, more conversation focused platform.
You're not joining a social media platform with the full polish of dozens of devs and automated moderation. Things might break, and I might need time to fix them. The emojis and such are still a work in progress. Because e-mails no longer route in reasonable normal ways, the sign-up process instead happens within the software, and has to be approved by mods. Design and structure elements may change. Etc. The point being, that the forum isn't finished, but it is at a place where I feel like I can present it to people, and it's people I need to help direct what functions and things will be in this space. You all will shape its norms, its traditions, its options...choices I could try to make now, but really...they're for us to create as a group! But the important stuff? That's there. Now let's drive this baby off the damn lot already!
Come! Join us!!
PS. As always, TERFs and Nazis need not apply.

Forbidden Fruit: Shanks x F!Reader
Tags: nsfw, Modern!AU, AGE GAPS (at one point he mentions he's old enough to be reader's dad), mentions of creampies/breeding, dirty talk, daddy kink, sex toys, and phone sex
Thank you @aces-sweetheart for making this post which inspired me to write this fic!
You were desperate.
After looking for a boyfriend for so long, you were getting frustrated. Boys at your college seemed dull to you, and online dating was a total bust; finding companionship seemed impossible for you.
You wanted something romantic, sure, but right now, you needed something more sexual. You hadn’t been laid in god knows how long, and the sexual energy within you had reached its bursting point.
You thought to yourself as you lay in bed; you could’ve used one of your many toys to get you off, but that was growing old. You wanted someone to be there with you.
You chewed at your lip, trying to decide what to do with your frustrated self.
Until an idea popped into your mind.
Maybe you didn’t have a companion, but that didn’t mean you couldn’t buy some services to replicate the experience.
Immediately you perked up and began searching for online cams and various male voice-over actors you could listen to.
But after looking at those, you decided that wasn’t quite right either…
That’s when you see a targeted ad about a phone sex hotline. You raised your brows; you had never considered doing something like that before… but the more you thought about it, the more appealing it sounded.
You clicked the number on the search engine page without even thinking it through.
You almost hang up, but you’re greeted by an automated voice.
“Welcome!” It cheerily rings, “You have reached The New World Chat Line! Please select one if you are interested in women, two of you are interested in men.”
You debate hanging up right then, but with shaky fingers, you select ‘two.’
The silence is loud, but eventually, you hear that automated voice again.
“Please select one of our many male operators to chat with!”
The phone begins repeating back various profiles that the men had recorded themselves. There were many different guys, each with their own list of kinks and physical descriptions. You chewed your lip as you listened; some were interesting but not enough to get you to bite the bullet.
That is, until you hear a deep, raspy voice.
“Hey there,” It starts, “You can call me Akagami. Uh, let’s see, I’ve got red hair, and I’m a little over six foot… I think I’m around six foot six?”
Your eyes bulged; he considered that “a little” over?
“I’m looking for sweet girls that like to play with older men. Real innocent, cute types are perfect for my style of play. I want to guide a girl, teach her everything from how to squirt to how to please me-“
You don’t need to hear anymore. You want this guy now.
Pressing ‘one’ on impulse, the phone begins to ring.
It doesn’t take long before there’s an answer.
“Hey there, sweet thing,” he says it with a familiarity that causes your body to heat up.
“U-Uh, hi-“ you want to smack yourself as your voice comes out way too squeaky and high-pitched.
He laughs on the other end, but you can tell it’s all in good fun, not out of malice.
“And how are you doing today, princess?”
“Uhm,” you pick at the hem of your shirt as you lay on your back, “I’m feeling a bit lonely. I wanted to talk to someone…”
You can hear the smile in his voice, “Is that right? So you decided to talk to me? I’m flattered.”
“Mhm…” you trail off, not sure how to get the ball rolling.
But fortunately for you, he’s a natural.
“Honey, you sound a bit young,” he starts, “How old are you?”
“O-Old enough!”
He chuckles, “So you’re a younger girl.”
Your face burns bright red. Were you seriously so obvious that he could read you so easily?
“Hm, don’t worry, your little secret is safe with me.” He purrs it into the phone, and your body shivers at his tone, “Is this your first time calling for this kind of thing?”
“Um, yeah…”
He chuckles lowly, and your heart skips a beat, “Don’t worry, we can talk about anything you want. It can get sexy, it can get sad, hell, you could just tell me about your day; I’m all ears.”
You smile a bit at his words, your nerves starting to disappear.
“Well, I called because, like I said, I’m kinda lonely…” you pause as you debate what you want to say, “I’ve been trying to find a boyfriend but no luck…”
You hear him “aww” as he listens, and you talk a bit about your dating struggles, how college has been challenging, and how you’re up to your limit with how sexually frustrated you are.
“Things can be rough at your age. I remember I had a hard time when I was in college…”
“How old are you?” You chirp up, and he laughs.
“Curious? I’m 40 now.”
You hummed, “You’re old enough to be my dad.”
“Yeah?” He chuckles, “I kind of figured that.”
“It’s kinda…” you swallow, unsure how to finish your sentence without dying of shame.
“Kinda what?” He pushes, and you can practically hear his smirk, “Go ahead.”
Your core lit up at his words, “Even though you’re almost twice my age- no because you’re almost twice my age… it’s really getting me worked up.”
He growls, “Yeah? You like fantasizing about older guys?”
“I-I do-” you whimper, “My dad has a friend… I’ve always found him attractive…”
“Sounds like you’ve always had a thing for older men.”
“Always.”
He groans at that, “Dirty little girl… don’t you know it’s girls like you that make things so tempting for guys like me? We want to take advantage of cute things like you who have no idea what you’re getting into…”
You bite your lip, “But I want you to take advantage of me.”
“Fuck-” he hisses, “Alright, I don’t know if I can take the idle conversation anymore, princess. You’re making me so hard right now.”
You swallow, working up the courage to make the first move, “Can you tell me how hard you are? Please?”
Your core flutters at the grunt that comes from the other end of the line.
“It’s getting really hard, baby. My pants feel so tight right now just listening to your sweet voice say such dirty things.”
He groans, and your ears perk up at the sound of fabric shuffling in the background. Your heartbeat accelerated at the action.
You squeeze your thighs together, trying to relieve any discomfort that grew between your legs at his words.
And with that, there’s a click from the phone.
“Hello?”
“To continue, please enter payment information.”
Shit. Your free minutes ran out.
You scrambled to grab your wallet on the bedside table and fished out your card. Quickly, you punch in your credit card info before the phone rings again.
A warm chuckle greets you, “Did I lose you?”
“Yeah-“ you sigh, “I needed to enter some card info.”
You can hear the smile in his voice, “I see… don’t worry, I kept your seat nice and warm for you~”
“Thank you,” you laugh, “I appreciate it.”
“Yknow,” he starts, “I bet a slutty little thing like you has a bunch of toys to play with. Why don’t you take one from your collection and use it?”
“O-Okay.”
You whine as you remove your hand from your cunt and get out of bed, pulling out a box from underneath it. You pull out your favorite clitoral vibrator and a basic dildo. You describe to Akagami the toys you’ve chosen.
“Good girl,” he purrs, “Try easing that dildo inside first…”
As you lay on your back, you spread your legs, teasing your hole with the silicone tip. You whimper softly before pushing in and gasping at the intrusion. You’re plenty wet, so the toy slides right in, bottoming out to the suction cup base.
“I-It’s in- “
“Good, good.” He hums. “Turn on the vibrator now. Make sure it’s on the lowest setting, alright?”
You adjust so that you’re holding the phone between your shoulder and cheek, your dominant hand turning on the vibrator and placing it on your clit. Even though it was only on the first setting, the buzzing made you jump.
“God, I can just imagine your flustered body writhing…” he laughs, “You said you’re in college, right? Don’t you have roommates you’re worried about?”
You bit your lip, “She won’t be back for a while… I think.”
“Oh? You think?” He teases, “Now you’ve got me thinking about if I was in your dorm room with you…”
“W-Wh-” you try to get your words out, “What would you do if you were here?”
“Mm,” he drawls, “first, I’d kiss my precious princess. Swipe my tongue over your lips before playing with your tongue.”
Your face grows hot, and you wonder what his tongue would taste like. Does he drink? Smoke? Your tongue darts over your lips as you ponder.
“And I’d play with your tits… squeeze them and play with your nipples that I bet are so hard right now.”
You use your free hand to pull at your nipples, which are just as stiff as the older man speculated.
“A-And then what?”
“Eager, are you?” He stifles a laugh, “I like that….”
“Just for you, Daddy.”
A silence lingers, and for a while, you’re worried you might’ve made him uncomfortable.
But then he speaks.
“You know, a lot of dorms have security. And even if yours doesn’t, other students will likely see us…” You press your lips together, wondering where he’s taking this, “You think they’d think I’m your father when you lead me to your room? That our relationship is innocent?”
Your eyes flutter shut as he continues, “Or do you think they’d know I’m just there to use your younger body? That I’m just a perverted old man fucking a college girl?”
“I-I-“you stutter, tossing your head back, “I don’t know-“
“Turn up your toy, princess. Let Daddy hear your moans.”
You obey his command immediately as if he’s placed a spell on you. Your finger clicks the button on your toy again, making the vibrations grow stronger.
“Oh, Daddy-” you sharply gasp, “I need your cock- how big is it? Tell me-“
“Around eight inches when I’m this hard, princess.”
Your mouth watered.
“Never had a dick that big in me before…”
He chuckles, “No?”
“It’s probably too big-“
“Daddy will make it fit.”
You moan openly, your cunt squeezing the dildo inside you at his words. Even though he didn’t give you permission, you turned the toy up one more notch. You bit your lip, knowing you’d get in trouble if he found out. Over the sound of your toy, you hear wet noises coming from his end.
“Would you let Daddy fuck you raw, princess?” He grunts, “Would you let him creampie your little pussy?”
“Yes-“you breathlessly gasp, “Y-Yes, I want it-“
“Mm,” he moans, “You answered that quickly. You could get knocked up, you know.”
As you approach the edge, your breathing goes shallow, “Don’t care, just need you to claim me. I need you to own me-!”
“Fuck-“he draws it out, “I’m gonna make it so you only want Daddy’s dick. None of those little boys at school will be able to compete.”
You whimper and arch your back as your toy happily buzzes away, stimulating you in all the right ways. Your clit throbs and pulses as the toy surrounds it, and your insides tighten around the other toy.
“I’m so close-“
“That’s good; turn up your toy one more notch.”
“I-I can’t-“
He hums, “A toy that only has two settings? That doesn’t sound right… did you turn it up without permission?”
Your voice trembles, and your legs shake, “Yes, Daddy…”
“Naughty thing,” he tsks, “I’ll allow it this time, but only because we’re both so close-“
Your eyes shut tight as the pleasure overwhelms you. As you approach the end, your legs begin to quiver, and your heart rate is off the charts. Your body tense as your feelings become too much to bear. You needed to cum.
“Daddy, I-I need to cum!” You whimper, “Please let me cum!”
“Ngh-“He grunts, “Cum for Daddy. Squirt your cum all over your cute fingers*
Your vision goes dark as you cum. Your body seizes, and your toes curl as your back arches off the bed. Your chest heaves, and you hear a low growl from the other end of the phone, “That’s it, that’s it, princess. You sound so pretty when you cum for me.”
“Daddy,” you moan helplessly, “Cum for me too.”
Akagami’s breath grows ragged as he gets closer, “Don’t worry, princess, Daddy isn’t far behind-!”
He lets out a low groan when he cums, and you bite your lip, listening to him. After a few moments, everything grows quiet.
“I’ll call you again Daddy. Let’s play again soon, okay?”
“Of course, baby. I would love to guide you through another orgasm.”
And with that, you hang up the phone.

The Jedi Council waited respectfully so he could walk down the ship's ramp first.
Technically, the first boots that met the plaza floor were those of his new guard. New to him—not new to the position. Each of these stone-faced men was already tall, but the black plumes jetting out from their helmets added to their imposing frames. Neither the movement of their uniformed march nor the innocent wind could bend the stricken feathers. The uneducated eye would think these virile men in their metallic armor were the more formidable unit, in stark contrast to the variably aged Jedi Masters hanging behind in their soft, unassuming robes.
Their weapons were on full display. This was about presentation as much as it was about protection. The guards covered as much vertical air as the Neimoidians with their own high hats, yet in their bearing the sentries possessed none of the defeat or cowardliness.
He didn't look at the failed oppressors when he strolled right past them; there wasn't even an acknowledgment of their existence. Perhaps that should have been a sign, but clues are more difficult to spot when you aren't aware you should be looking for them. He was nothing but grins and celebration. Puffed sleeves swung left to right as he traveled forward. This was when he still infused his wardrobe with welcoming blues and browns in the fashion of Naboo's wealthiest—carryovers from decades spent representing them. Long fabrics in charcoal, black, and blood red came later.
I observed from afar as he cordially greeted Obi-Wan. The mild distance and the breeze prevented a clear listening, but I heard him say something about bravery. Then his eyes shifted to the blond-haired boy idling at the Jedi's hip. No amount of space between me and the trio could filter the beaming smile that spread till maxed, nor could I miss the way his eyes went from polite automation to enthralled.
Then I watched—as a pleased spectator to this event, and as a friend—when the new leader of the Galactic Republic placed his hand on Ani's shoulder. The boy was just as worthy of adoration and admiration as anyone, but I recognized what a special moment this was. Though he was so much more than his background, Ani was a former slave from the Outer Rim, only recently indoctrinated into our Republic's fold. Yet the Supreme Chancellor—the most powerful figure in the galaxy; a demon who knew exactly what he was doing—placed a hand of friendship and blessing on the very tunic Ani had worn in his slavery.
Claiming him. Publicly claiming him in front of all of us—the Jedi Council, Obi-Wan, and although I was the unexpected chess piece no one saw coming at the time, he even claimed Anakin right in front of me.
None of us realized what we had just witnessed. When we felt the breeze snake through our ranks, we never suspected it was Fate infiltrating the show. Brushing up against our shoulders. Whispering condolences behind our ears. I remember the weight of my black gown, donned for mourning. I remember the relief I felt at his victory with the Senate, though Naboo had already secured hers without it. I remember the paleness of his hand as it briefly rested next to the boy's tan neck. A bloodless beast touching the sun god heir.
Still grinning, he paraded next towards my group, success at his public and private triumphs electrifying his eyes. Congratulations were exchanged between us like tokens. He smiled at me, and he spoke pretty words for "peace" and "prosperity."
I smiled back and welcomed him inside the palace. Later that evening, we stood side-by-side as Qui-Gon Jinn burned.
If I'd known then what I know now, I would have run forward while Palpatine was still disembarking from the ship, put my body between him and Ani in order to shield the boy, and screamed.

Aaaaand welcome bitches, bros and non-binary hoes to another round of 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 2am headcannons with LJ! Except it's 4am rn cause I'm a rebel 😈. Today we're focusing on the Mephone fam :D (these take place in a world where all the Mephones actually got a chance to be a family)
- Mephone 3GS has slight Prosopagnosia (face blindness/inability to recognize faces) due to his sensors being fucked up. Has a lot of memory issues in general rly due to the same injury. He mainly has difficulties remembering people's names, dates, time, when events took place, etc. (I'm projecting 💀)
- The Mephones all call each other by colors as nicknames. Mephone4, 4S, and 3gs are the main ones who call each other by colors (mostly because associating people with colors helps 3gs remember who they are.)
Here's a list of all the nicknames :)
Mephone3gs: Gray
Mephone4: Blue
Mephone4s: Red
Mephone5: Silver
Mephone5C: Pink/Rose
Mephone5S: Gold/Goldie
(Mephones 6-X have no nicknames due to them being automated guards with little to no will of their own)
- 5C and 5S are the only ones out of the main 6 that don't have a sibling dynamic, this is due to how they were created. All the Mephones before them were released independently and each a year apart (from 2009-2012) 5C and 5S were the only ones to ever be released in the same year and we're specifically built to be companion pieces to each other. They are both married and mostly see the others as their nephews while the others see them as their weird and eccentric aunt and uncle.
- A Mephone's maturity relies entirely on how advanced they are, not how long they've technically been alive. Each new Mephone model is more sophisticated than the last, making them act older and more mature despite existing for a shorter period of time. (Hence why Mephone4S and 5 act as older brother figures to 4 and 3gs and why 5c and 5s act more like well adjusted adults than the rest.)
- Mephone4 and 4S are commonly referred to as "the twins" despite being a year apart in age. This is due to their similar names, them both having the exact same physical model, the red and blue color scheme, and their just general vibe together as siblings. They bicker a lot but they're very close.
- Mephone5 is probably the most distant from the rest. But not in an asshole kinda way more like in a "stressed but wise older brother who you barely see cause he's constantly either working part time or doing college" typa way. He's just a very busy dude. Gives pretty good advice tho if you catch him on one of his break days. Constantly leaves 4S in charge.
- 3gs has seen a lot of shit 💀. Cannot be in enclosed or tight spaces for too long; you can fucking forget it if the light's are off, he would rather die than go into another dark room. Mephone damn near filled 3gs's whole room with nightlight orbs to help him sleep. 3gs is pretty embarrassed about his newfound fear of the dark and claustrophobia, but Mephone4 always reassures him that there's no shame in it. Mephone4 was actually the one to get 3gs out of the storage closet in the first place, so 3gs looks up to him a lot. If 3gs is ever upset or has a meltdown, immediately go find Mephone4. If Mephone4 is unavailable, however, 5S or 5C are good stand ins.
And now I sleeb nighty night.

Games I played in 2023.
Last year was stable. This year has been... less so. I've bounced between getting out more and shutting myself in more, and between trying to take better care of myself and letting small issues and stressors start to pile up. My steady job got a lot less steady, and I'm now out of work and finding ways to pass the time. Like video games, for instance. Shall we?
(2022 ⇐ 2023 ⇒ 2024)
Moncage
This was another decent year for getting caught up on games I've tried out and expressed an interest in before. Moncage, INSIGHT, Railbound, URBO, and a few other games you'll see further down the list. I also followed up on some games I've played in the past like Train Valley 2, and even dipped back into some old mainstays like Eternal. One of these days I'll find time for Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress again.
I more or less broke even on my backlog this year, chipping away at smaller games from assorted bundles I've picked up over the years, but also picking up some new bundles to add to the pile. So many games, so little time.
Before We Leave
While we're talking about the backlog, here's a game I've been interested in for a while. A settlement builder in a solar system of small planets, with a quaint aesthetic of wooden ships and massive space whales. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this one. The automation and logistics aspect is an interesting spin on the genre, even it gets a bit complex at times. Never too challenging, though, and there's enough depth and nuance to hold my interest all the way to the final stages and on towards the stars. I'm looking forward to the upcoming sequel.
The Legend of Zelda (series)
It's hard to go wrong with Zelda. I have fond memories of Skyward Sword, Wind Waker HD, and Breath of the Wild, and with a new one on the way, it seemed like as good a time as any to catch up on my library. In order: Link's Awakening DX, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, The Minish Cap, and the DLC quests from Breath of the Wild I never got around to. Our Wii U saw more activity than it's gotten in years.
Opinions on each: Awakening was a fun, solid 2D adventure that never overstayed its welcome, though the game shows its age at a few points. Likewise, Ocarina was an interesting look at the series' jump to 3D, but was also somewhat janky at times and it took a while for me to really get into a groove with it. (I think the turning point might've been the Water Temple. I actually liked the Water Temple. Ye gods.) Majora was a sizeable improvement gameplay-wise and played with the format in neat ways, though I'll admit that I butted heads with the time loop mechanic more than once.
I have a particular nostalgia for Minish Cap; some of my earliest memories of Nintendo games are watching my friend's GBA over his shoulder on the bus ride to elementary school. After so long, this was the one I was most curious to see if it held up. Answer: yes. Minish Cap is officially my favorite 2D Zelda, and the highlight of this little retro binge. There's a lot of charm to it, and it just feels good to play.
It may be a bit too recent for nostalgia, but I almost forgot how much I loved Breath of the Wild. My old file was exactly how I left it, and playing through the extra content was a good way to re-acquaint myself with the "new" Zelda style before…
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
This was a daunting one. If I had to sum up Tears in one sentence, it would be this: There is so much game in this game. Even compared to its predecessor, there's so much to do and so many more layers of exploration and interaction, with a wide array of smaller improvements that make it a smoother experience overall.
I wish I could say I put as much time into this game as I did into Breath of the Wild, and I did put a lot of time into it, but… some other things got in the way. Summer is when my work got a lot busier and a good amount more stressful, and this was a game I slowly chipped away at whenever I found time for it. I got pretty much everything I wanted out of it, and after the credits rolled, I put it away and haven't touched it since. I should change that. I'm sure there are more good times to be had.
Mutazione
The word that comes to mind to describe Mutazione is fascinating. It's a point-and-click narrative, light on gameplay, heavy on story and character. Of the other games I've played recently, the vibes remind me the most of Sable – quiet and contemplative, where all you want to do is observe and take in the world and characters that are being presented to you. It dovetails nicely with the story itself, which largely consists of a curious little soap opera playing out around characters who are along for the ride. The writing is some of the best I've seen this year, and gets real fuckin' raw in ways I wasn't expecting. This one will stick with me for a while.
Pikmin 3 / The Wild at Heart
I've never had the focus or dexterity for a really complex RTS, but Pikmin's always been a little more approachable. Played the second game in the series a while back, picked up a used copy of Pikmin 3 at a local convention this year, and with another one coming out, it seemed as good an excuse as any to make it a double feature.
Both games have their charms. Pikmin has a distinct style and sense of scale that's hard to replicate, and a good variety of environments and encounters and puzzles. The Wild at Heart is smaller in scope as a Pikmin-like, and hits some familiar beats while remixing some of the core ideas in interesting ways. The latter also put more of an emphasis on character and narrative, something I'd like to see fleshed out more, but what we got was still satisfying. Both games were fun, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Pikmin 4 soon.
Chants of Sennaar / Heaven's Vault
Another double feature – one game that caught my eye immediately, and another I've been curious about for a while. For a long time I've had a fondness for constructed languages, with scripts and writing systems of particular interest. The idea of decoding such a language lends itself well to a puzzle game, and these two approach it in different ways: Chants of Sennaar features multiple cultures in a Tower of Babel-esque setting, each with their own quirks and traits to learn and translate between, and their own puzzles to solve. Heaven's Vault opts for depth, with a single language and a vast history that you slowly unravel through exploration.
My verdict for both games is the same. The language puzzles are really cool and interesting! I want more of them! …Everything else in between gets sort of meandering at times. Not enough to drag down the overall experience, but perhaps enough to overstay its welcome. Sennaar filled the space with a mish-mash of puzzles and stealth, which felt oddly paced at times. Heaven's Vault's pacing was hit even harder with slow exploration and visual novel-esque story segments – fine enough for one playthrough, but the amount of wandering and backtracking involved makes me hesitant to go back and play NG+ to see the rest of the content. I don't have the patience to play a visual novel multiple times to see what all of the dialogue options do. The story's fine as is, and I got what I wanted out of it.
Even with their faults, these are still probably the games that influenced me the most in 2023. If anyone asks me, as a game dev, what I would make given unlimited time, resources, and creative freedom, from now on I'm going to point to Chants of Sennaar and say "something like that". I want more games like this to exist. I will make them myself, if I have to.

This wasn't the only racing game I played this year – a bunch of new content was added to Mario Kart 8, and I also pulled Horizon Chase Turbo from my backlog and spent a bit of time on that – but this is definitely the one that made the biggest splash. I've never played an F-Zero game, and it controls differently enough from other racers I've played that I had to unlearn a lot of muscle memory, but I got the hang of it after a while. The 99-player model is frantic in an enjoyable way, and races are quick enough that it's easy to pick up and play in short bursts… which is good, because short bursts are all my nerves can take with this one. Seriously this game is stressful. Fun, but stressful. Maybe one of these days I'll actually win a 99-player race.
Cobalt Core
I've been playing... a lot of Cobalt Core these past couple months. I don't jump on every roguelite or deckbuilder that comes out, but when one does get its hooks in me, they get in deep. This is another one of those games where everything just works. Great music and pixel art, fun characters (all traits shared with its predecessor, Sunshine Heavy Industries, which I also liked this year), a simple but engaging narrative, and an addicting gameplay loop that I can easily sink an hour into whenever the mood strikes me. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't need to – it takes a lot of ideas from games that have come before it, and builds on them to create something really enjoyable. One of my favorite games of the year, without question.
Terra Nil
As we build up, so too must we tear down. This is another one I wanted to get to sooner or later, and managed to slip it in during the last couple weeks of the year. It's also a type of game I want to play more often; a lot of the time when I play sim and builder games all I really want in the end is to build nice-looking homes and environments, and Terra Nil spins that into a puzzle game where those things are the only goal. It was a nice time, but left me wanting more – either more content in Terra Nil, or more games like it.
Eastward
This game is… a curiosity. A solid action-adventure game with a memorable cast of characters and impeccably detailed pixel art. Gameplay flips back and forth between slow-paced story segments and fun setpiece levels with a decent variety of tools for combat and puzzle-solving. The biggest sticking point is the narrative: the pacing and worldbuilding felt odd and disjointed in places, particularly in the back half, sometimes feeling like it's saying too much and often like it's said too little. Yet throughout all that, it never failed to be compelling, and I was hooked all the way 'til the end. What's more, the idea of the upcoming Octopia DLC flipping the entire game and setting on its head has my interest thoroughly piqued – something to look forward to in the coming year.

Here's to 2024, and here's hoping things turn around sooner or later.

Welcome to my blog!
About me:
My name is Holly, or if you'd like the long form, Heosphoros. You can call me Holly, Heos, or Heo if you'd like. I have a preference for Holly, but I don't mind if you use names interchangeably.
I use She/Her (capitalized) or she/her (lowercase) pronouns - again, can be used interchangeably. I'm a queer trans woman, and I'm monogamish but open to polyamory.
I'm autistic, and I've got some unknown medical problems I need to see a doctor about. I like creating things, but I have trouble finishing projects.
Other places you can find me:
Twitch (Currently inactive due to my PS4 having Red Light of Death'd and my laptop having low RAM)
YouTube (I upload literally anything I want here - gaming videos, shitposting, video essays - whatever I want, whenever I want. I upload very slowly)
Bluesky (I rarely upload here and mainly just lurk)
Ko-Fi (I don't upload anything here, you can just donate to help financially if you'd like)
Considering making a Cohost.
Current projects:
The New Communist Manifesto
(I feel that The Communist Manifesto, while a good document, needs to be updated for the modern age, having been outdated by 200 years, which makes it harder for people to truly understand Communism in an age of reborn Red Scares and US Cold Wars overlapping each other. I would appreciate some input on African and West Asian contributions to leftism.)
Hypixel Skyblock but it's played by an idiot
(A Minecraft YouTube series tracking my slow progress in Hypixel Skyblock)
Video Essays (continual)
(Video essays ranging from video games to serious topics. These take weeks to months to create, and days to weeks to edit. I also take the time to subtitle every video I release, sometimes before release, and sometimes after - this may take me weeks or months, depending on video length and IRL issues.)
Special tags I'll be using in the future:
#mdmp art, #mdmp art (year): Self-explanatory, I'll be using this for my art
#fav: This'll help me find things I really like
#it me, #mdmp irl: If I ever take selfies I'll slap them in these
#gaia union: Topics related to the Gaia Union project
#ncm: Topics related to the New Communist Manifesto project
#video essay, #video essays: Self explanatory; I'll put video essays under here
#mdmp rambles: Random text posts from me
Stances: (More can be found beneath the cut on account of length)
2024 US Election:
Vote for Dr. Jill Stein. I was previously advocating for Dr. Cornel West, Ph.D., but it seems unlikely that he'll gain enough ballot access. Dr. Jill Stein already does:
Claudia de la Cruz is a bad option, as the Party for Socialism and Liberation has a Conservative 5th Column, and has frequent problems with discrimination, so Dr. Cornel West, Ph.D. continues to be the ideal option.
Political and socioeconomic:
I'm a Communist - this means that I believe in a stateless, classless, moneyless society. As a shorthand: I believe that workers should own their workplaces, with CEOs being democratically elected by their employees,
and the government functioning mainly as representatives for their people, processing the public's votes and distributing resources without denying human rights as a threat for employees not working at, "peak efficiency."
AI:
The name, "AI," is a misnomer used to describe a variety of improved versions of technology we've had for decades, and the modern use of it is generally used for crypto pumping, art theft, and money laundering.
Programs such as Midjourney and ChatGPT use large amounts of electricity and water, as well as contributing negatively to climate change via rare earth metal mines.
I would recommend this excellent video essay by Philosophy Tube on this subject. I tend to refer to it by a variety of terms, such as (but not limited to) Digital Hapsburg Generators, Long-Form Autocorrect, and Automated Theft Engines.
J.K. Rowling:
Rowling is an anti-feminist misogynistic transphobic prick who doesn't just actively make things worse for trans women, but women in general. You can't participate in death-of-the-author if the author is still alive. Do not buy her products, including Hogwarts Legacy.
As an aside, I also recommend this video essay about the problems with her Harry Potter series, critiquing her work as an author, even outside of her Twitter politics and donations to far- and alt-right organizations.
Russian invasion of Ukraine:
Russia doesn't have the right to invade Ukraine, even if the USSR previously had Ukraine as a state within it.
This is a gross misrepresentation of how the states of the USSR worked (though the USSR had many flaws; I recommend these video essays by Socialist YouTuber Hakim discussing the fall of the USSR and flaws with former socialism attempts), and is an excuse to be an expansionist fascist, and is just rooted in Russian nationalism.
Even the Russian people have been losing their shit over their president's actions and don't agree with him.
Atomic Heart:
Atomic Heart is a Russian nationalist game, which calls Ukrainians swine/livestock, demonizes Ukrainian technology, uses a floral symbol of Ukraine on a hostile drone, and bases the sex robots off of a prior Ukrainian official.
This game also explicitly uses a military photograph of Russian soldiers participating in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Do not purchase or play this developer's games.
The Last of Us:
The Last of Us is a game made by a Zionist, based on the Israeli occupation and later holocaust of Palestine, and the second game was explicitly made as, "revenge against Palestinians." As I had the first game gifted to me years before I knew about this, I may make a video essay about this in the future, but I'm not purchasing the second game.
Do not purchase or play this developer's games.
Palworld:
Palworld itself is a questionable game, but despite it being pretty much confirmed that they didn't use ATE technology, they do have a lot of blatant theft from other games, independent creators who make Fakemon, and even have a model directly stolen and slightly modified from Game Freak.
The company that made Palworld also has a history of blatant theft, as well as having a game that uses ChatGPT as an actual game mechanic.
Do not purchase or play this developer's games.
Israeli holocaust of Palestine:
This is very blatantly a genocide, and calling it a holocaust is in fact justified. Benjamin Netanyahu is actively being antisemitic by attributing this as a Jewish necessity, and is souring Judaism for people who've already been indoctrinated to be antisemitic.
The Israeli holocaust of Palestine has not only been, well, a fucking genocide, but has also increased both Islamophobia and antisemitic violence globally.

AI Sucks.
AI is not punk. AI is a tool of The Man. Of billionaire Tech Bro sociopaths and accelerationists. AI is not subversive. Edgelords and petty contrarians utilizing AI does not make it so. AI is not revolutionary. Sentimental schlock will not save the suffering. AI is lazy. AI is a cheat. AI is plagiarism. AI is slick and facile. AI produces Pablum for the masses, shat out as easily as it's digested, no different than any banal meme of the week.
AI is not art. It can't even be called Digital Art. It isn't art, period. Digital art still has a human component. AI isn't even in the same league as any of the long traditions of collage, assemblage, or found art, or even of electronic music, musique concrète, or music sampling, or of, in writing, the cut-up technique.
If one is going to steal shit, as all artists, musicians, and writers do - "there is nothing new under the sun" - one should at least have the decency to put in one's own work. The blood, the sweat, and the tears, and fucking make it one's own, rather than simply letting a computer algorithm regurgitate vapid, plasticky-looking, fumble-fingered, dilettante-pleasing, scam and hoax-facilitating, uncanny-valley kitsch.
AI does not democratize art. It is designed to take ownership of it. To render it even further into a mere commodity. NFT's anyone? To appeal and pander to the masses, unschooled in the arts. To render true artists, photographers, writers, musicians, and actors, irrelevant, unworthy of making a living, as they cannot compete with the speed and high turnover that, among other things, social media affords this AI kitsch. Anything real, anything tactile, will soon pale in comparison to any of these fantastical images that seem to fool far too many people; undiscerning audiences raised on decades of ridiculously "airbrushed" magazine covers and multi-million dollar CGI popcorn movies that look like video games. And as education becomes less and less of a priority, the quality of the written word will matter less and less, as well.
And AI is absolutely being used to fool people on a daily basis. To distort reality for the sake of a buck. Not only to devalue these various "creatives", of all stripes (painters, cartoonists, sign writers, stained glass artists, ceramicists, blacksmiths, furniture designers, yarn artists, cake artists, fashion designers, and so on), but as yet another way to scam the gullible with impossible products, and separate them from money they don't have to begin with.
To, in fact, devalue the individual, the consumer, the employee, the everyday Joe; losing jobs to AI-powered automation, forced to communicate with soulless chatbots and their frustratingly meaningless automated replies, and everyone's favourite, the indignity of the self-check-out. Of course the youth are so anxiety-ridden, now, by this mess we've all left them, they're welcoming the lack of human interaction. Great.
And, even more worryingly, to further sabotage the already broken political process, with fake images, spread through memes, that not only successfully fool fans and detractors of any leader or candidate, alike, but allow them to also deny reality. To claim that legitimately damning photos, authentic audio or videos have been, in fact, faked, whether they actually believe that to be so or not.
There's a difference between something that's clearly (or should be) satirical, and something that purports to be authentic, even if expressing something in a humorous way. And, unfortunately, that line is becoming hazier and hazier, as people seem to, somehow, be less and less informed, in this, supposedly, the information age. Not to mention the rationalisations: "well, 'they're' doing it". But as we move further into this age of disinformation, it is imperative that the left does not engage in this sort of chicanery. There are enough damning statements and real photographs of various political foes. Just because the (alt) right does it is not a good reason. Of course it was already an issue, to some extent, with Photoshopping, but AI is clearly compounding the problem. Some might say, purposefully. Indeed, all aspects of this malfeasance are being used by grifters, strategists, and propagandists, alike, to full effect.
In sum: Fuck AI.

Hook Sharp and Ready fi wuk
Read This and find out why I am Holding a Legal Garden Tool that can be used for many purposes and IS NOT ON THE BAN LIST
THIS BTW IS a family heirloom used still to cut cane and bush today
It’s now illegal to have these weapons in your home
Sarah McGee
As of yesterday (14 July), it is now illegal to possess certain dangerous weapons- even in your own home.
The aim of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 is to bring in tough new measures that strengthen law enforcement’s response to violent crime.
It was already illegal to possess a knife or offensive weapon in public, but the Offensive Weapons Act makes it unlawful to possess certain rapid firing rifles, specific types of knives and other offensive weapons in private.
Some weapons covered in the ban include knuckledusters, zombie knives and death star knives.
Anyone unlawfully possessing a firearm covered by the ban will face up to 10 years in prison, and anyone who owns another weapon covered could face up to six months behind bars and a fine.
Soon, further parts of the act will come into play and you have to verify you are over 18 to buy bladed items from the internet.
You won’t be able to have bladed items delivered to a locker or other automated pick up point.
Items will be clearly labelled as bladed articles, and those delivering the items may ask you for proof of age.
National Police Chiefs' Council lead on knife crime, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Graham McNulty, said: “The harm caused to families and communities through the tragic loss of life relating to knife crime is devastating and that is why focusing on this issue remains a top priority for policing.
“We welcome the changes to legislation being introduced by the Offensive Weapons Act.
"These measures will help officers to take dangerous weapons off the streets, deal with those intent on using them to cause harm and suffering, and crucially, make it more difficult for young people to get hold of knives and other dangerous items in the first place.
“Knife crime is not something that can be solved by policing alone. We are working with businesses, schools, charities and community schemes to educate young people and explain why carrying a knife is never the right choice.
"This early intervention plays a vitally important role in stopping young people from turning to a life of crime.”
Which weapons can you no longer possess?
Section 141 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 provides that it is an offence to manufacture, sell or hire, offer for sale or hire, expose or have in his possession for the purpose of sale or hire of or lending or giving to any other person certain specified weapons.
Here is a full list:
A knuckleduster, that is, a band of metal or other hard material worn on one or more fingers, and designed to cause injury, and any weapon incorporating a knuckleduster.
A swordstick, that is, a hollow walking-stick or cane containing a blade which may be used as a sword.
‘Handclaw’- being a band of metal or other hard material from which a number of sharp spikes protrude, and worn around the hand.
‘Belt buckle knife’- being a buckle, which incorporates or conceals a knife.
‘Push dagger’, being a knife, the handle of which fits within a clenched fist and the blade of which protrudes from between two fingers.
‘Hollow kubotan’, being a cylindrical container containing a number of sharp spikes.
‘Footclaw’, being a bar of metal or other hard material from which a number of sharp spikes protrude, and worn strapped to the foot.
‘Shuriken’, ‘shaken’ or ‘death star’, being a hard, non-flexible plate having three or more sharp radiating points and designed to be thrown.
‘Balisong’ or ‘butterfly knife’, being a blade enclosed by its handle, which is designed to split down the middle, without the operation of a spring or other mechanical means, to reveal the blade.
‘Telescopic truncheon’, being a truncheon which extends automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to its handle.
‘Blowpipe’ or ‘blow gun’, being a hollow tube out of which hard pellets or darts are shot by the use of breath.
‘Kusari gama’, being a length of rope, cord, wire or chain fastened at one end to a sickle.
‘Kyoketsu shoge’, being a length of rope, cord, wire or chain fastened at one end to a hooked knife.
‘Manrikigusari’ or ‘kusari’, being a length of rope, cord, wire or chain fastened at each end to a hard weight or hand grip.
A disguised knife, that is any knife which has a concealed blade or concealed sharp point and is designed to appear to be an everyday object of a kind commonly carried on the person or in a handbag, briefcase, or other hand luggage.
A stealth knife, that is a knife or spike, which has a blade, or sharp point, made from a material that is not readily detectable by apparatus used for detecting metal and which is not designed for domestic use or for use in the processing, preparation or consumption of food or as a toy.
A straight, side-handled or friction-lock truncheon (sometimes known as a baton).
A sword with a curved blade of 50 centimetres or over in length; and for the purposes of this sub-paragraph, the length of the blade shall be the straight line distance from the top of the handle to the tip of the blade.
“Zombie knife”, “zombie killer knife” or “zombie slayer knife”, being a blade with — (i) a cutting edge; (ii) a serrated edge; and (iii) images or words (whether on the blade or handle) that suggest that it is to be used for the purpose of violence.
“Cyclone knife” or “spiral knife”, being a weapon with — (i) a handle; (ii) a blade with two or more cutting edges, each of which forms a helix; and (ii) a sharp point at the end of the blade

Call for Testing
An important step for RFC implementation is for people to experiment with the implementation and give feedback, especially before stabilization. The following RFCs would benefit from user testing before moving forward:
No RFCs issued a call for testing this week.
If you are a feature implementer and would like your RFC to appear on the above list, add the new call-for-testing label to your RFC along with a comment providing testing instructions and/or guidance on which aspect(s) of the feature need testing.

One of these days, probably when my semester ends, I’m ACTUALLY going to write a fix about the ARK-era extended Robotnik family. Til then; I’m whipping up profiles for the OC Robotnik family.
Maria’s Dad: Stanisław/Stan Robotnik. Elder of the two sons of Gerald Robotnik. Gentle, friendly guy but also full of passion. Holds an MD and a PhD in biology, immunology and neurology. A child prodigy like many of the Robotnik family, he spent much of his time studying, aspiring to one day aid his father in the betterment of humanity. The ARK finished completion around the same time as he received his last PhD, and about a month after he married. Being a member of the Robotnik family, he was among the inaugural resident-researchers on the ARK, and intended to study rare diseases and conduct vaccine research. He and his wife struggled for some time to conceive, and after many tries, Maria was born. Stan’s life work was fatherhood more than any of the research he ever did on the ARK, but often his job as a father and his job as a scientist intertwined, given Maria’s condition. He could work for hours on end, dedicating large amounts of his nights to his causes. Often has to be dragged away from work to do other things, like spend time with the rest of his family. Since so much of his work surrounds Maria, he positively dotes on her. Besides Gerald, he’s probably the most devoted to her. Age during the ARK raid: 45
Maria’s mom: Anastazja/Anna Robotnik. Maiden last name Czaplicka. Met Stan during his studies for his second PhD. Was a student at the same university, studying for her masters in anthropology. Also holds a degree in sociology. They married shortly before graduation. A people person, but also deeply analytical. Charismatic but also inappropriately chatty at times, and often delves into subjects that aren’t related to the conversation at hand. Probably the only Robotnik family member with any semblance of being religious ever since Gerald’s wife died. Believes in God but keeps her views mostly to herself, respecting her husbands family’s difference in views. Joined Stan as an important part of the ARK’s inaugural resident-researchers. She was to observe social and cultural changes involved in the formation of the new colony. A special research team was created just for this purpose. Her friendly nature allowed her to be a welcome presence in the lives of most people on the colony, aiding in the study. When not observing the residents of ARK for work, she’s happy to host social parties and have tea with them anytime. Given her limited medical knowledge, she spends most of her time worrying about Maria, ensuring all protocols regarding her care are followed to a T. She’s always hovering around Maria when she can, and is absolutely particular about the living space being as safe for her as possible.
Age during the ARK raid: 43
Iwo’s Dad: Jakòb/Jacob Robotnik. Has a PhD in engineering and mathematics, also is an expert in computer science (he has no specific degree in it because we didn’t start having those til after when I imagine the ARK was around). His focus as a resident-researcher is in the mechanical functions of the ARK. He has a keen interest in aerospace engineering, naturally, and is in charge of keeping the ARK’s functioning as a space station. He is also using his time on ARK to develop new technologies in computer science, automation, and robotics. Jakòb is incredibly impassioned when it comes to his work and very proud of the modern marvel that is the ARK. Since his work is so crucial, managing all the various engineers, and doing his own work in the field, he’s often the busiest man on the entire colony. And when he’s not on the clock doing work keeping the place running, he’s often tinkering with pet projects he always have. Additionally, he became a sensation for becoming the first man married in space, having met his wife on the ARK, unlike his brother, who was married prior to coming aboard the ARK. The couple debated for a while about having children, content to be an aunt and uncle, but would eventually have Iwo. Jakòb however was quite busy and didn’t have as much time to spend with his family as Stan did with his. Oftentimes however, you could find that he’d drag Iwo’s crib into the workshop for some company.
Age during ARK raid: 37
Iwo’s mom: Daniela Robotnik. Maiden last name Grabowska. Holds a PhD in Biology and a masters in engineering. Was recruited for the ARK’s research program from Poland as part of their worldwide search for the brightest scientists to serve as researchers in never before performed studies. She worked as the head biotechnologist on the ARK, and works on important studies on the intersection of medicine and mechanics. She’s one of the highest regarded scientists on the ARK besides the Robotnik family and even has other scientists working under her. She met Jakòb in the employee lounge a few years into her time at ARK. The bonded over their shared interest in engineering and robotics. They married about a year later. She is well known on the ARK for her strong spirit and commanding presence. She is strong and holds her ground, often blunt and to the point about it. Her employees often view her as a hard boss to deal with at times, but she does everything out of the desire for everyone to do their best. Full of intense passion similar to Jakòb’s about her work, her hobbies, and everything else in her life. She’s almost always in high spirits and gets along with just about everybody. She refused to completely abandon her work following the birth of her son, but in a somewhat diminished capacity as Iwo was not allowed in the biotech lab the same way he was allowed in Jakòb’s workshop. She tries her best to be an active mother otherwise, but keeping up with a one year old after her work can be tiring. If what she was doing wasn’t so important, she might think about putting it on hold just for a little bit.
Age during ARK raid: 34
Additional headcanons about canonical members:
Gerald Robotnik is half Austrian on his mothers side. She met his father when she came to Poland as a teenager for her father’s work.
He comes from a long line of Professors and was a child prodigy himself.
Gerald’s wife died a few years into the ARKs operation. His riches come from years of work in the medicine field, and selling his numerous inventions.
—
Maria has a lot of dolls and “play pretend” type toys as a young child, as she usually can’t do most active play for very long.
She also knows Polish, of course but doesn’t use it often, to the chagrin of her grandfather.
Due to having to sit still for a long time for certain treatments, Maria developed a lot of relaxed hobbies as she got older, like drawing, knitting, and paper crafts.
—
Iwo was big as a baby. He was 10 pounds, 5 ounces.
When he was teething, he would chew on anything he could get in his mouth, up to and including his fathers tools.
His first word was “Mine!” Yelled out at another baby in the ARK nursery.
