I’ll miss John Bercow as Speaker of the House of Commons...
Granted, I haven’t followed UK parliamentary debates too closely. But from what I got here, he was great at the position of Speaker. Inconvenient for the government, when he demanded rights and power for parliament. No push-over, but someone who filled the role with power to navigate parliament in pretty rough times. And the way the debates happen in the House of Commons you need someone who is loud and has a fine sense of humour. Politicians that are great speakers are always welcome. He was also a good entertainer, and while you shouldn’t have too many of those, it was like watching a good talkmaster. Suddenly it was interesting to watch and listen to those other people, that screamed at each other.

am i allowed to say that i understand fanny's attraction to humphrey's body and the losing interest when humph's head is attached. it's like when a character who wears a mask all the time does a face reveal. look what you've done. the mystique's all gone now.
#i still rly like a whole humphrey bone to be clear but i like them when they're Not attached a lil more.#not enough to dump him but i understand her#welcome to talkmaster#bbc ghosts

oh god i just realized the other paradigm in the taskhusbands dynamic that makes me go crazy (egomaniacal villainous archetype + subservient and desperate for approval henchman)

i wanna be so clear that i think taskhusbands is queerbaiting in the way that i think explicit gay couples are often more boring than implied ones. like sure theyve kissed but it's still queerbaiting bc it's for the Comedy and that's their Job and im sucking it up like a vaccuum and coughing up yaoiful interpretations bc that's how i have fun
#inswrt quote 'desire is stronger when it isn't fully satisfied'#like it's queerbaiting (affectionate)#it's nearly a comfort that they will never stop queerbaiting#britcom rpf ia like boy band rpf but for middle aged man likers#welcome to talkmaster

i don't think i have the strength but, knowing alex lurks on ao3, it's a near thing of wanting to write a fic that directly address him like. alex i know you're reading this. tell greg i say hi. give him a kiss for me. your time starts now
#welcome to talkmaster#i don't go in there except out of occasional curiosity so maybe that's already in there.

can men stop saying they're going to kidnap their tv co-host that they've been play-acting being in a bizarre psychosexual relationship with on national television
#listening to the tm podcast in bits and pieces and like. greg why did you say that.#no one asked him to say that#welcome to talkmaster

fun as it is seeing greg get up on the stage every now and then, i much more enjoy him in the throne. being on-stage instantly strips him of a lot of his authority bc that's where the clowns are supposed to go
#i have to wonder if it's more his idea or more something that was pitched to him#production looking for a bit more variety or greg wanting to be more involved#probably a bit of both#welcome to talkmaster

you know what the horrid bit is? in all other circumstances im so horribly allergic to rpf it's not even funny. except taskhusbands isn't rpf to me. greg davies the actual man is not the taskmaster greg davies. alex horne the actual man is also not the taskmaster's assistant alex horne (although admittedly i think the line is mildly blurrier with alex bc of the unique mix of comedic intention and parts of his actual personality being baked into the character he plays)
a lot of the show's comedy comes from the genuine reactions of alex and greg but it's also in the playacting and the weird space between the crafted fiction and reality. no one is under any delusion that greg and alex the actual men are lovers, but they can't Possibly deny that the characters they're playing and the lore they've built up for the show doesn't have homoerotic, psychosexual overtones thrumming through it
#welcome to talkmaster#they are living in bizarre domestic bliss and also find each other immensely irritating. it's nearly the exact cocktail of things i love.#i hope they are trapped in this hell forever
