Hey this might sound weird but I'm new to the whole tumblr f1 thing and was wondering how to form friends with people on here or get into a community I suppose?? Haha ik this sounds weird but I've been reading f1 ao3 fics for a long time but was always scared to reach out, so finally made a tumblr. Ignore this question if it feels too weird but just wanted to ask :)

First of all, hi there! Welcome to our little f1 corner of the internet, I hope you'll have some fun here🫶

I'm sadly not the most qualified to answer this since I'm also very shy and weird when it comes to making friends on here and I haven't been here for too long either. I'm also still learning how to defeat that inner voice of mine telling me I'm annoying people and actually reach out to my mutuals.

But here are some general things for anyone who's new, I'm sorry it got a little long. Keep in mind, these are things that I personally like, so this might not be general advice for everyone!

Write a little sth about yourself in your profile/blog! Choose a pic of your favourite blorbos as your profile pic or banner! It makes it wayyy less awkward to start conversations if two people already know basic things like each other's nicknames, pronouns and drivers or ships they're both interested in.

Reblog stuff from people you'd like to get to know! Maybe put some of your thoughts in the tags, reblogs and tags are what makes tumblr so fun. You can put the weirdest stuff in there and the person you reblogged it from will get a good laugh out of it (at least that's what i do whenever someone reblogs my stuff: cackle at the tags)

Write some comments on AO3 or leave some asks (anonymous or not, your choice) on tumblr! Even if it's just "!!!!!!?!?!??!" or "❤️💖🫶😭" Authors WILL gobble it up.

Write some DMs! Most (if not all) people on here are also starving for interactions.

I remember and recognize so many beautiful people who reblog my stuff or have left comments or asks. Even if I haven't directly talked to them, I would still consider them my friends. Tumblr mutual culture is a bit like that.

So, all in all: Don't be afraid to start interactions. (I am also writing this to remind MYSELF of that fact😭😂) And remember - we are all here to enjoy the rich men going vroom vroom on the weekends and to have fun with being delusional together🧡

Alright! We need a Classic F1 counterpart to the Boy Band prompt, so let's do:

Classic F1 Drivers as a Motown Group

Quick disclaimer: 1. We're doing this irrespective of age and 2. This one is more of a narrative for funsies. We love a writing challenge.

Bonus points for name suggestions for the group.

1. The Label Owner

Between balancing several acts, managing stakeholders, and cutting deals, this man's job is essentially herding feral cats all day- but he's definitely the man to do it. He's known for being blunt and, at times, cutthroat, but never unfair. He knows talent when he sees it and has been known to give the underdog a chance.

2. The Group Manager

If the label owner is herding feral cats, our manager is wrangling rabid dogs. Between getting our lead talent out of hot water, negotiating pay, and booking venues, this man is TIRED. But he loves it- after all, it wasn't long ago that he was the one on stage.

3. The Scorned Talent

This man was undoubtedly talented- he had the voice, the had the moves, but his prickly off-stage demeanor and inability to keep things fresh ultimately lead to his fall from grace. After one-too-many times being called a "one-trick-pony" in the press, followed by a nasty physical altercation with the manager, the label made the call to let him go and replace him with a younger lead singer. He would spend the rest of his career as a washed-up has-been telling anyone who'd listen what a "fraud" his replacement was.

3. The Band Leader

When the manager is out, he's our guy making sure rehearsal runs smoothly, setting up for the show, and dragging the singer's ass out of bed when he "oversleeps" (is hungover). While he loves the band and plays a mean sax on stage, he spends the majority of his time learning the business: As life on the road wears on him, he prepares to transition into being a label executive so he can spend more time at home with his wife and son.

4. The Backup Singers

These three lovable idiots are the glue holding it all together. When things get tense between our pianist and vocalist, they're the ones cracking jokes and keeping it light. They also keep butts in seats with their playful on-stage antics and smooth moves.

5. The Pianist

Fans of our group will spend a lifetime arguing who really made the music what it was: the pianist or the singer? Our pianist has been heralded as a "musician's musician" with an ear like no other: He knows what the melody needs, how the rhythm should feel, how to make the listeners dance one minute and cry the next. Unfortunately, between his constant inputs and the label pulling him in to help other acts, he and the singer are at odds constantly. The number of fights those two had and threats to leave if the other stayed cannot be counted. Still, his legend lives on and many acts that followed reference him as inspiration.

6. The Lead Singer

Where our scorned talent missed the mark? This. Kid. HAD it. The moves, the voice, the winning smile, the stage presence- he had it all. Ladies bought the vinyls because they wanted him. Men bought them because they wanted to BE him. He kept every single show packed and never once put on a boring performance.

He wasn't without controversy though: He was a bit of a loose cannon, known to party a bit too hard after shows, drink too much, and get caught up with notable women who may or may not have been married. If he was at constant odds with the pianist over control of the music, then he was certainly always playing jumprope with their manager's last damn nerve. Several times our manager begged the label executives to get rid of the kid or keep him in line, but with our singer churning out hit after hit, there was nothing for it. There was no end in sight for our singer's stardom.

Until the end came. When he didn't make it to rehearsals, the band joked that maybe he'd run finally run off with some new blonde for good. When the news that night rolled footage of what was left of the plane he'd boarded, silence befell them all. It was all the nation could talk about for days- he left a hole in the music scene that no one could ever hope to fill.

BONUS: The Critic

A constant thorn in the side for our group. This man seemed to know EVERYTHING about what went on behind the scenes with the act. Scathing reports and salacious details of our singer's late-night antics poured from his pen, baffling the man. Multiple times our singer called out the critic by name in interviews, calling him a hack and a liar. It wouldn't be until years later that our label owner finally confessed to serving up secrets to the critic because, well, all press is good press.

Still, no one could write the soul of our singer better than the critic, and when the tragedy came it was the critic that wrote a memorial that could move even the surliest of men to tears. In every documentary and exposé of our group that followed, the critic and his ongoing battle with the singer were always mentioned- the two's stories forever intertwined in legend.

A Hungarian point of view of that infamous F1 throphy incident (no, I refuse to make THAT joke, this is supposed to be a serious post, yeah?):

So, home grand prix, right? Exciting shit, even when you’re not too immersed in this sport. A hot summer weekend, what better to do than turning on the tv and checking out the race (and being super jealous of all the YouTubers that got invited into the Paddock Club – it doesn’t matter if you don’t know shit about F1, it’s “for the clicks” as Max Verstappen would say). And this is how I was witness to the winner’s throphy get destroyed by the papaya team’s one and only Lando Norris. It should be fun and games and friendly banters and memories to keep forever – too bad there’s also a hand-crafted throphy that took approximately six months(!!) to make, and it also costs about 40K in euros. But this isn’t the main point here. People sharing my viewpoint are making it seem like this is what it’s all about, and I love you all for speaking out, but let me offer a bit of correction here.

If it was a generic, mass produced throphy, I’d laugh along with everyone involved. I mean, it is such a lovely sight – seeing two drivers having friendly banters and showing so much respect towards each other and making an otherwise lacking race memorable.

BUT. And here’s the most important part: this throphy was made by Hungary’s biggest porcelain manufactory. It’s design, the whole process of making it – it’s all part of our cultural heritage. Throphies are usually just objects, right? It isn’t important what they are made of but what they represent. But with this special throphy? It isn’t just something that represents a win – it also represents a country and its culture. The first three won’t just take home points and an object to represent it, they also take home with them a piece of Hungary. A piece of a foreign culture. An art piece, not just another generic throphy to add to their collection. And this is the part people ignore because let’s be honest. We are talking about a sport that moves millions on a single day, paying 40K for a porcelain vase isn’t going to slap them in the face. This isn’t about the money, nor about compensating the people (the artists!) working on these beauties. And don’t come at me with the argument that that throphy is now worth more broken because it isn’t about how much it is worth either.

Breaking that throphy — hell, it’s not even the “oops I broke it” part that is making me see red, it’s the JOKES the respective teams and the audience keep posting — means you’re ignorant and lowkey (lowkey??) disrespectful towards a culture.

Who to blame here? I don’t want to point fingers because I have no idea if anyone on the podium was aware how proud we are that aside from getting to house a race here, we also give a piece of our culture to the winners to take home with them. BUT I’m proposing everyone involved should be educated on this matter.

Hahahah noooo no worries I just wasn't sure if you were serious but honestly that wass the most serious answer I could give! There's like good and bad reasons to dislike a number of drivers I don't think Lando is any different and in my #real and #unbiased opinion he's just a cute lil guy with a scrungly face and a personality that cracks me up. I would also say like an entry point of Twitch and not like. DTS. Or random headcanons on tumblr. Will probably endear him more to you than anything else!

WHAT IS THE F1BLR CREATOR’S FEST?

f1blr creator’s fest is a month-long festival event meant to support, encourage, and highlight the work of visual creatives on formula 1 tumblr. from gifs of memorable moments to beautiful photo edits, the f1blr creators community keeps the fandom running! with the state of socmed today, the value of these creations has been diminished to “content.” but creatives in this community are very much artists! we hope to start a dialogue this month about the importance of supporting creators on f1blr, to the end that we can revive a once-vibrant community of visual creatives and encourage an environment where people feel inspired and safe to explore their art.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

all creators are welcome to take part to whatever extent they’d like! that said, the themes and wildcard events were made with visual creation in mind, such as gifmaking, graphics art, photo editing, photo manipulations, graphic design and video editing.

WHAT ARE WILDCARD EVENTS?

they’re additional events we’ve got planned for the community! more info on this will be announced at the start of the festival.

WHAT’S THE TEA ON SUPERLICENSES?

similar to the real program for drivers, we will award superlicenses to creators who accumulate a minimum of 15 points (in our case, gold stars). these superlicenses are a fun, bragging rights kind of thing–nothing serious! if you earn a superlicense, you’ll receive a digital certificate at the end of the festival, with the option to make it physical; festival organizers have committed to mailing out gold star stickers and nice, official-looking certificates! as well (and if possible), if you’d like a print(s) of one of your edits, that can be included too.

LOTTERIES / PRIZE DRAWS??

yep, we're dropping real cash money on this! prizes won't be Huge, $10 online gift cards and the like, enough for an iced coffee from starbucks. but hopefully they provide a little bit more of an incentive to participate, and allow for us to give back to the community at large!

this is goofy and sappy but i’m so grateful to f1blr for re-igniting my love for writing. this got kind of long and rambly lol i’ll put the rest UTC

i’ve always loved writing, when i was as young as like 10 i would sit in my room and write pages and pages of YA romance type stories (think sarah dessen-esque), at one point i had a whole folder on my clunky old PC with like 20 original stories definitely hundreds of thousands of words, and they were BAD… but it was such a source of enjoyment for me. somewhere along the way i discovered fandom and fanfic and lost my passion for writing i think bc i was getting too in my head about it, comparing myself to other writers and feeling inadequate, also there was a lot of toxicity in some of the fandoms i was in when it came to attitudes toward fic in general, and since i was in mostly rpf fandoms i would get so anxious about writing someone too OOC that i would just… not write… because i felt like i had to do all this research first and know the Lore fully when all i wanted to do was write about 2 dudes fucking each other but my executive dysfunction makes researching things really difficult…

long story short i’m so happy to have found such a welcoming little community of writers here, i feel like the anxiety of writing has lessened because you all have been so kind and supportive of my writing. also posting short blurbs on tumblr is so normalized now (when i left tumblr in like 2018 it wasn’t as much at least in my corner of tumblr) so there’s so much less pressure for someone like me who struggles to finish things—i feel like i can still write and share without feeling like i have to write a polished piece for ao3. for the first time in like a decade i feel so excited about writing and it’s all im looking forward to doing when i get home from work, im jotting down thoughts on my daily patient lists like i used to do in my notebooks in middle/high school. it’s an incredible feeling to rediscover this creative side of myself.
