By Jo-Ryan Salazar The Bedlam On Baltic Avenue 22 February 2023
This is the final Saimoe news bulletin for the International Saimoe League on The Bedlam on Baltic Avenue. Nearly two decades of memories, great battles and countless sagas in the Saimoe movement drew to a close with the conclusion of Match Day 8 in the 2022 International Saimoe League Eliminations Period.

That's. A. WRAP! The International Saimoe League has concluded for the very last time, and the Bedlam on Baltic Avenue thanks you for what has been a journey of anime greatness to remember. This blog will continue to cover other things, such as content on its YouTube sister channel (Bongaboi151) and sports recaps, but all the bulletins you see here can be viewed in their entirety on bedlamba.blogspot.com. He did not heed his own warning.
Money shot
His attendant then starts to rub his back to help him feel better (I swear if he had actually burped, even a lame one, I would have died).
The rest of the episode plays into this idea a lot that the King starts to avoid him and implies really that the only time he'd be able to see him is at meals.
So even then it could have been that past the dinner and having to deal with eating like that at every meal including breakfast for days or even having to impress the gluttonous king with his own eating skills, or the only time they actually meet is over food and having to keep talks going, Wein could have forced himself to eat more. The way he going, he definitely could have busted his clothes or had to change to keep up with things.
Now I have no interest in the King at all, and you find there is a betrayal (sorry spoilers) but you have this moment (admittedly this is talking militarily not literally):
Where if there's one thing you should know about Wein, is that he'll do a lot of things out of spite and rub it in their face. This sounds exactly like he'd find out about this comment and he'd either try to show off by eating all the food that the King would have eaten (even depriving him of food by eating it right in front of him during peace talks), I absolutely could see Wein eating the rival king and a meal just to rub it all in and make a point. He's already killed before in the series so it's not even outside of character.
Anyway, I'll leave this here for now since I have other things coming soon and they even got pushed back lots for this post but it was too good to not share.
All Hail Prince Wein Salema Arbalest, his belly, and his growing appetite.
When one of your biggest fantasy belly tropes actually becomes real!
So watching "The Genius' Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt", there finally was the setup I've long thought about and I THOUGHT was going to flirt with but indeed went with and it was amazing. I may already plot to make it worse.
This is Prince Wein Salema Arbalest, a smarmy genius prince that wants to even sell his kingdom to retire (and then promptly forgotten after the first episode.) He keeps making alliances, having battles, and more; all sorta by accident, he just handles them well and improves his nation's standing.
In Episode 11, he's visiting a kingdom whose ruler previously helped him with some refugees when he was visiting a city state in a neighboring Empire, and seeking to forge a trade agreement with them.
Well the King is enormous and even likes to moved around in a palanquin and likes to have feasts. A normal occurrence for royalty such as Prince Wein. He goes along with it and promises not to get distracted by the food and focus on forging that alliance. Despite the fight with his inner self, it doesn't go well.
And now screenshots!
He quickly shifts his focus to learning all he can about their culinary traditions so he can bring them back to his country, but then still his inner voice is telling him not to be distracted by the food.
APPARENTLY I will have to make a reblog of this because there is a limit to images in posts now? Dumb. I'll take the next one instead.

@equinox-vixen I hope you don’t mind me giving a long, rambling reply in a post instead of a comment! I actually already wrote a long post and then Tumblr was garbage and lost it :’) Now take two! So, from MAL the summary is:
Tensai Ouji no Akaji Kokka Saisei Jutsu/The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt
The King of Natra has fallen ill, leaving the only hope for his kingdom to his son, Prince Wein Salema Arbalest. Known to be capable and wise, he is the perfect candidate to become the prince regent. However, if the prince has anything to say about the matter, he would rather sell off the Kingdom of Natra to the highest bidder! Since he wields the authority of the throne, no one can stop Wein from auctioning off the country and using the profits to retire in comfort. All he needs to do is raise the value of the small kingdom to maximize his gains. But whether Wein's grand plan will succeed remains to be seen, as his wit often surpasses even his own expectations—much to the benefit of the oblivious citizens of Natra.
I honestly can’t say the plot itself is too much more complicated than that! I had started watching because I was minorly intrigued and hoped it would be a fun time (I nicknamed it “Budget Code Geass with humor in fantasy land” pretty quickly; it has that same format of BIG PROBLEM, then BRAIN GENIUS TIME, and GRAND FINALE, but that’s about what they share). From the first episode I knew I’d at least give it a decent shot because I adored the character dynamics.
Prince Wein just wants to be able to chill and be lazy and it’s a MOOD. He isn’t obnoxiously whiny or annoying about it, mostly just moments of WHY IS LIFE AND POLITICS SO HARD AND WHY DO THEY KEEP HAPPENING TO ME??? every now and again. Which, again, MOOD. It would be far easier for him to increase the worth of his country and just be done with it if he didn’t have a really good heart and genuinely care for others (though he wouldn’t be eager to admit that he does care). And then we have his right-hand lady, Ninym. She’s mostly chill and puts up with exactly 0 of Wein’s shit in the best of ways, I love her and simp her. She’s just as smart as Wein, and Wein knows this and respects the hell our of her--he honestly loves her as a human being, no romantic attachments needed (though the ship potential is there if that interests you, this is just what’s been shown in the anime), they have each other’s back where it counts and genuinely care in the most subtle but meaningful ways, I LOVE them.
(There are like five gifs total of this show and doesn’t fit the above paragraph, but I loved this moment so I’m adding it)
What you also need to know about Ninym is that her white hair marks her as a race pf people who suffers from extreme prejudice--we don’t see the atrocities done to them in the show so far, but what we hear of their treatment is horrific. Wein shows he refuses to treat these people like that, but because he’s so adept at political plays and games and that garbage I had assumed when push comes to shove... We’d see some of the typical tropes. But nope. No matter their rank or who they are, if someone says shit about Ninym or her people? That’s it. They’re dead. 0 racism is tolerated. I’m not even exaggerating. It’s to the point where, if someone talks shit, I start getting excited because I know what’s coming.
And from the premise, you may make the assumption that I made, “Here we go, another harem plotline.” The summary seems kinda isekai-trope adjacent, right? So when we eventually had an old female acquaintance show up with some history and a marriage proposal in hand, I thought ah yes. This is it. Here we go again. But it didn’t turn into the usual, tired tropes? Ninym and this new character actually got along great outside of political conflict, and obviously had an established history as well. In fact, when this new character leaves the story (I assume only for now), she says loosely that her endgame is an OT3 with Wein and Ninym.
It isn’t a show that’s going to blow your mind or anything, the plot isn’t super complex and the characters aren’t overly intricate. But it’s so much fun and it keeps surprising me with how they handle cliche situations. Even while playing up other cliches at the same time. I just watched episode 7 yesterday, and though the antagonists aren’t about to blow my mind with their endgames, the stakes are so much higher and more complex than I was anticipating at the start of this, and I care so much about how all of this will end. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something fun to watch! (In other words: pls join me, the tag is full of cobwebs and I need more people to scream with.)
Here’s a cute and ominous Ninym to help me sell my point:
#Blood#The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt#Tensai Ouji no Akaji Kokka Saisei Jutsu#equinox vixen#Also shout-out to the protag having fun brown hair and not Generic Fantasy Hero Generic Black Hair and Black Outfit#I legitimately love all the good guys in this show#And I LOVE to cheer when the bad guys get theirs#Shout-out to the balcony lad who legitimately made me laugh out loud#That was hilarious#PLEASE MORE PEOPLE JOIN ME IN GENIUS PRINCE HELL IT'S GREAT HERE EVEN WHEN IT'S TERRIBLE#Listen you know I'm enjoying a show when I actually put effort into my pitch for it akjsdnkajnd

Book Review: ‘The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt’ #9
The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt (Hey, How About Treason?), Vol. 9 by Toru Toba My rating: 4 of 5 stars Here's an idea: Invite the most notoriously pragmatic, infamously shrewd, and dangerously intelligent nobleman on the continent to a gathering of backwoods' statesmen and use him for personal gain. What could possibly go wrong? A lot. Obviously. But for the middling, inexperienced politicians of the Ulbeth Alliance, which is located in the far west of the Varno Continent, the opportunity to wield Prince Wein as a tool to pry apart domestic relations is irresistible. Whether through crass manipulation, deliberately invoking chaos, or the usual inter-party shenanigans native to arrogant squabbles for power, politicians will do what politicians have always done: deceive, bicker, exploit, complain, and betray. Good thing the Crown Prince of Natra's seen it all before. In GENIUS PRINCE . . . v9, Prince Wein and his delegation spend a week in the Ulbeth Alliance at the behest of Agata Willow, a Holy Elite and the representative of one of the four city-states that comprise the alliance. How willing is Wein to either harmonizing or upending the alliance's forthcoming Signing Ceremony (a decennial ratification of the alliance)? After all, a stable alliance would mean profitable trade for Natra. Too bad the representatives attending the ceremony, and then some, have their own plans for the future of the alliance. The curious, if obvious challenge set before Wein is that Agata's quest to consolidate authority within the Ulbeth Alliance is sketchy at best. Agata is a tenacious ruler. He's also getting way too old for the bedeviling arrogance that presently binds the wrists of his city-state. He's an interesting character with a modest, though perhaps not enough presence on the page. All the more reason to delve into the man's reason to firm up the alliance, quash his rivals in the other city-states, and modernize the Ulbeth Alliance into a stronger, more respectable country. This novel is an ongoing what-if scenario. Wein's obligation to help Agata is only as strong as he desires. He could, just as easily, shift his favoritism to Oleom, representative of Great Blue Skies of Roynock (port city-state), or to Lejoutte, representative of Grand Red Harvest of Facrita (farmland city-state). Wein has his pick of potential allies. But such luxuries possess an undeniable truth: Wein also has his pick of would-be backstabbers. And as GENIUS PRINCE . . . v9 continues, readers encounter the delightful treat of Wein constantly schooling the locals in what true statecraft looks like. Wein deliberately helps, deliberately obfuscates, and deliberately mixes up everyone's view of the puzzle pieces that might constitute authority within the Ulbeth Alliance. Inter-party marriage? Inter-city trade? Cascading political scandals? These people thought they could spellbind Wein into doing what they wanted. They messed with the wrong dude. GENIUS PRINCE . . . v9 is a fun adventure with relatively low stakes. This novel was clearly designed to ease up on the more perilous inclinations of the continent's detestable figures in favor of a cavalcade of helpless, awkward politicians. The Ulbeth Alliance's reputation as bitter, inward-looking, and nurturing excess religiosity does its residents no favors. But the alliance's next generation of rulers, plus Wein's governance flexibility, offers readers a glimpse into a confederacy of fools on the cusp of critical thinking (Wein: "No one political system is 'correct.' What matters is how people benefit from it. Who cares if the government is 'on your side' if everyone starves to death? Do whatever works," page 12). The book's only substantive dive into the darker alleyways of nation-state trickery concerns the author's long-awaited explanation of the history of the Flahm. Discussed at varying points in the novel from the perspectives of Wein, Falanya and Nanaki, and Ninym, the tale of the subjugation, rise, and fall of the Flahm people is sad, pitiable, and stomach-turning. It is little wonder why Wein is so intensely protective of "his heart," Ninym, and so earnest in doing well by her people. And it is with this in mind, it is also little wonder why Wein is so willing to interfere in the affairs of the Ulbeth Alliance, a surveillance society whose citizens ignorance is their only source of pride (Kamil, political aide to Agata, on the alliance: "Tell them the foolish, illogical people of a senseless land were destroyed by their own folly," page 119).
