Shared Spaces Research
No.2
The second part of my research was to look at magazines, photographers, and artists and just look and compare a bunch of layouts and how they compose their work. This will help me think of my own ideas and design techniques to incorporate on my own book.
The first Magazine I looked at, a collaborative art/photography magazine called AINT-BAD, I have been following this magazine for a while and have always been really impressed with the contemporary work. They have a look thats very modern but also simple and slick. Unlike other magazines they do stand out and I would love to be able to portray my book with the same ability to spark interested from the front cover alone.

The Photographers they collaborate with are all very different so each page has a slightly different style which I think works really well.
When looking at photographers for my own project about shared spaces I have a few in mind however I am still not 100% sure what I will end up doing mine on. I am though focused on the idea of sharing spaces with strangers as I think I could make something that looks and feels very professional.
One of the Photographers who's work feels very relevant to the idea of shared space is Carrie Mae Weems her work is very effective visually and it tells a story. She often battles with complex issues in her photography and the results are moving.

Her work is very stirring and each photo tells a different story which could be a very exciting way to make my book especially as it will be about strangers so the stories could be endless.
Another photographer I looked at is Francesca Woodman Whose photography hits hard, its gritty and straight to the point. A lot of work is about femininity but also to do with isolation and in our current world state her work feels very relevant unfortunately she passed away at 22 but has still got a vast collection of 800 photos to her name whose work won multiple awards and is analysed still for her use of multiple techniques and style.

The last references I will be using will now just be a bunch of magazines and books from either the brief or ones I already know.
Some examples are; Juxtapose, Raygun, Crop Magazine, Format Wars and more.
