oooh this is such an interesting discussion you have going on!! i think that actually within the contained las nevadas storyline, the character work done was actually really good (….mostly), especially for c!q himself! i’m a big fan of that era! but the problem is that las nevadas doesn’t exist as a contained storyline, it has to fit within the larger dsmp. and because episodes took SO much time and effort for quackity to put out, that meant the story and development for the characters involved had to grind to a halt for months at a time. they couldn’t organically grow by hopping in other peoples’ streams, because then where they pick up in the next LN episode wouldn’t make sense. (and like one of your anons mentioned, i think this is part of why the problem of chat trying to distinguish between canon/noncanon arose, because “canon” actions could by necessity only happen in official episodes. which goes against the entire structure of the dsmp!)

and as for the cinematic element, again, in a vacuum, wonderful. i was always so impressed by the production quality he put into the episodes, it fit the tone of c!q’s arc, and it was a great way to tell his own personal story within the platform of the dsmp. but as time went on i think it started happening at the expense of the story, which is most clearly seen in the las nevadas finale, which even as i first watched it felt like a fancy glittery coating with little substance behind it. and other ccs seeing how popular the cinematic style was encouraged them to do the same, which took away the charm of everyone telling stories in their own way and compounded the pacing issue, and all together it was a large contributing factor in why the dsmp started grinding to a halt. unintentional on quackity’s part of course, but it’s what ended up happening.

sorry for rambling!! (and sorry if i ended up just rehashing stuff people have already said) i just think it’s a really fascinating topic because conceptually the las nevadas style is so good but ended up having such bad consequences :0

hi bella calamitydaze big fan sorry for the late response 😭 i really agree with all of what you said i think on its OWN las nevadas was pretty good/excellent with some of its aspects but it kind of collided with dsmp's overall main story because of how LONG it took to make each stream. which is fine on its own if it needs more time and effort im not not against that if its gonna be quality, but in my opinion it was the concept of las nevadas that counted more than characters or plot. i also felt that way about the finale too because ive said this before but las nevadas never fucking opened 💀 at least no one outside of the country got to see inside the damn casino. so i never really got too attached to the place or its supposed citizens. i think it had a lotttt of potential and i think some elements of q's personal arc like the torture or karlnapity breakup (rip forever) were generally well executed, but las nevadas itself definitely felt so divorced from everything else because of exactly the reasons you mentioned. but thank you for the ask! i hadn't really thought of some of the stuff you mentioned and i appreciate other insight into stuff like this because though i did follow LN arc i wasn't super insane (/pos) over a lot of lore >_<

ok so im going to keep this singular ask topical (the others r goign to b unrelated) and talk about my bitch Norve & co. Note, im following my own lore and taking what i like from canon and doing what i want with it. not following canon strictly WHATsoever

This is the Great King Norve, or most commonly known The Holy Flail/Jhortanas Holy Flail. have his sexy gijinka wip too

as his title implies, he belongs to the Plaguebringer! Norve is said to be among one of the first followers of the Plaguebringer, but he wasn’t quite a dragon when he was born. He was more of a bundle of untamed magic that managed to gain enough sentience to begin trailing after a god, which happened to be a really young Plaguebringer. The Plaguebringer saw just how fucking Potent his magic was at the time and was like wow, that could be useful, and snapped up this ball of magic and forged him into a Flail to be used during battle.

Any time this mf struck something, it would basically be an insta kill. His spikes were always coated in Plaguebringers most dangerous shit, like wyrmwound soup type shit, on top of being coated in “perfumes”, so even breathing too close to him could get someone very sick very fast.

After the war between Plague and Nature settles slightly from the beginning, he gains a physical dragon form, which ideally would be an imperial but i dont see that happening for me anytime soon, but also like he wasnt really a modern dragon breed ofc. He was like, a REALLY really proto-type plague breed that never saw the light of day for a good while, but eventually he would be pushed into other forms because of how unstable it was, on top of his already fucky magic.

Norve. LOVED the plaguebringer. VERY passionately. he had no basis of what is considered modern romance, so for us in the present time, he would seem near obsessive of her. He was at her side at basically all times, if he wasnt in dragon form he would be a flail latched onto her in some way, etc etc etc, she did Not leave his site, and vice versa. This dedication to her became pretty well known, so he’s documented in a view historical texts as a Worshipper & Weapon of the Plaguebringer.

so, BECAUSE of how much he adored her, a lot of mfs are confused as to like. why the hell he’s against her now. After a more “recent” aka 2000 years ago war between Plague & Nature yet again, Norve very Very suddenly pulled away from the Plaguebringer with little to no stated reason why. He was still a dragon, he had his Own following under the plaguebringer and was responsible for a lot of shit, he was event connected to the sprites and goblins and shit so its like. Hello? but he was like. Fuck you guys. and dug a hole in the ground as far as he could. which is how he meets Pentes!

Pentes is the Lord Alluvium! He was quite literally mud when King Norve found him, and norve only realized he was even there bc he tried digging into him and pentes was like Hey. Kill Yourself. and norve was like wow. ok?

So norve puts this mf in a JAR and carries this sprite bitch around until Pentes eventually gains a “Dragon” form by pure exposure from Norve. Norve, again, is a very potent magical guy, so its stupid easy to just gain magic if you cant die from poison from him. which is what happens with Pentes! Pentes had his own magic tbf considering he had sentience, he just didnt have enough cultivated to take on a proper form that wasnt Mud. 

But he does take that form! They become besties, and Pentes eventually takes over an old Plague civilization and becomes the Eternal King, which is how he ends up marrying Xanthia, and he gets his own mess of drama because Pentes is for a lack of better words a cunt

anyways while Pentes is stirring shit, norve heads over to Old Light Area and finds Trolen!

trolen is a Proto-Imperial, meaning he was one of the very first made, and is absolutely RIDDEN in shade-muck, so much so that he can technically be considered an Emperor due to accidentally absorbing some mfs. It’s only really apparent in his horns though

so instead of just suibaiting norve, Trolen actually tries to kill him when they first meet.

Im still hashing out the details of their first meeting bc its supposed to be really intense, but these guys are gay. they end up just infatuated with each other. its supposed to be “downlow” but deity esque beings really dont know how to be downlow, so one of Trolens titles is literally King’s Wife. She’s old as hell, makes emperors bc she thinks its funny, and eventually moves down to the giant fucking hole that Norve dug and turns it into a literal castle that has the same vibe as the Lord Darkness’ castle from Legend 1985 LOL

slightly before they met though, Trolen created Anura

anura this sexy bastard is a problem child. to Trolens standard. hes also very much a “YOURE NOT MY DAD” kid to Norve, so while Norve claims him as his son when it comes to religious shit surrounding him on top of political, they dont really talk. LOL. so norve doesnt rlly care about whats going on between anura and trolen in the present, he only rlly cares if trolen starts to get like, actually upset by whats happening, but trolen doesnt take anura seriously enough rn to be mad abt him rebelling LMFAO.

more recently tho, Anura got a baby Emperor sister named Marigold

and this one norve DOES claim to be his little baby daughter that he loves so much and spoils to death because HE helped make her      (he chose the imperials trolen used)

Marigold is really obedient, but Anura is like 90% sure its because of how young she is (shes 50~ yrs vs Anura being a couple thousand), so hes holding out on her starting to turn on Trolen, which is when he’ll take her in. She doesnt really like Anura rn tho. but she LOVES norve and if she isnt hanging out w her mom she is hanging out with her dad. No one knows why Trolen made her tho bc he was pretty blatant that it wasnt for any sort of “family” thing, he wouldve just revived a singular one instead of using a lot of energy for a triple head, so its made a lot of dragons anxious bc whoops another holy war might happen heehee!!!

which that fear is only worsened bc norve is having gay sex with the harvest god.

So. Norve created the dragons of vermin right like theyre the vermin thats what all of these guys are apart of, and as of 100 years ago, Locust joined the dragons of vermin. he is one of the twins that make up the Insecta Kings, and they are the gods responsible for Harvest and etc. Right. so theyre the opposite of the vermin! So why the fuck is one of the harvest gods in the vermin gang and banging the leader.

thats something trolen also wants to know, but many are speculating its because of Norves recent call to murk the fucking Grand Deities (aka Plaguebringer/Gladekeeper/etc.). Locust is a very sleazy/greedy bitch and he wants NOTHING more than to gain as much power as he genuinely can. Hes unfortunately a very polar opposite of his brother Mantis, and just does Not give a proper shit for the people who worship him, and its mostly because hes had no genuine exposure to “human” (dragon rather) mortality or in general experience. Basically he cant bring himself to have empathy for something he knows nothing about personally

anyways so hes been striking deals with Norve in order to push for the killing of the Grand deities, and in the mean time norve accidentally informed him hes gay, which really sucks for the last two wives that Locust killed bc he panicked when he started talking to women. like you couldve told him that sooner?

Chapter 2, part 1 “the race against time” and 2″....the backtracking”.

The funniest and like cool AND THEN frustating thing about chapter 2 is that like.

The first third is so gripping and a race against time(...game couldnt you just have given us more turns plz i would take 13 instead of 10 to save the bargain ring) in order to save Lachesis, then the castles on the left side. I will admit, while i was pretty grumpy over the limited turn limit i had a blast pushing through. Then Lewyn appears and you can save the villages weee LORE AND M O N E Y.

I ENJOYED REDUCING YOU TO SHREDS THIS MOTHERFUCKER TRIED TO DESTROY MY BARGAIN(PRINCE HALVED!!) RING I MEAN THE VILLAGERS. LEWYN WHO BUSTED HIS ASS SAVING 6 VILLAGES FROM YOUR FUCKIGN MINIONS HAD HIS FUN DEFEATING YOU.

I looovvveee Lewyn and Sigurd conversation and how Lewyn calls out Sigurd then sees Sigurd honest answer and decides he aint bad and follows him to deal with Chagall and his shit lords. Pretty cool.

And Erinys!! i was surprised but i liked her take on “serious pegasus knight troupe” and her recruit convo was really nice, especially in setting the...err setting? and highlightning Lewyn flaws of immaturity/running away from responsability under the guise of “but there would be a civil war if i stayed~” and i enjoyed that Erinys does show  him that yeah bro no, you gotta go back, our people are waiting. And while Lewyn towards the end jokes and tries to make her stop crying by teasing her it....it was nice. 

So funny thing, there are 5 castles right, one is lachesis in the middle, two on the right side and two onthe left side.

And the left side is where you go first, so race against time to savelachesis and beating the next castle to unlock lewyn and allow him and silvia to save the villages. Like it is strangely heart racing doing this and it was pretty fun! then the game allows you to regroup after that so you can go beat moneystealer lord. 

Oh yeah! Midir and Edain became lovers while everyone waited for Lewyn, Silvia and Sigurd to regroup before beating moneystealer Lord. Yay one pairing down *checks notes* 6 to go. While i prefer jamke x edain, azel x edain and claude x edain (ohhh holyn would also be an interesting one huh *thinking emoji* ulir plus odo blood would be interesting on their kids and holyn looks like a cool dude), this one does the job alright(also i am already crying over 3 messes i cant decide of pairings, i cant get invested in more). Also it is kind of cute loyal knight x lady. 

After you complete the left side. Yikes. The backtracking...begins.

Like, while you have the “return” and “warp staff” THE GAME DOESNT ALLOW YOU TO WARP FOR SOME GOD FORSAKEN REASON TO LACHESIS CASTLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MAP. NO. YOU HAVE TO FUCKING  EITHER GO BACK TO EVANS ON THE CORNER LEFT OF THE MAP OR JUST WALK THERE. 

The Edain and Ethlyn (and Sylvia dancing) were truly MVPS sending the infantry squad to Evans and then the horse  squad had to walk until the middle of the map. Which fine ugh, but dear god it takes too LONG. 

THEN THE PATH TO THE RIGHT SIDE HAS SLEEP, MAGES, FUCKING CRITICAL MYSMIDOMS AND 5 UNREACHABLE BALLISTAS FUCK THAT PART DEAR GOD THIS SUCKED SO MUCH. ESP BC YOU HAVE TO KEEP LACHESIS SQUAD ALIVE WHICH IS SUICIDAL IF YOU PUT THEM SLIGHTLY ON THE WRONG PLACE.

Me: ok i will put lachesis a lil close to the Hallway Of Death And Frustation so she can heal, bc Edain is on the other corner of the map to help Lewyn grab Erinys, and those 5 hell spawned ballistas are the worst.

NPCS: WEEEEEEEEEEEE LETS FIGHT GANG.

Me:..

Me: Lachesis ur abt to be benched. Forever.(or until u marry/2 night stands someone....we gotta get Delmund and Nanna).

Alternatively, i did my strategy of the first part that is... keeping lachesis on the safe side close to her castle guarded by noish and holyn. 

I did beat the fourth castle and FINALLY WAS ABLE TO WARP THERE (THE COST WAS AND IS EDAIN HAVING TO WALK....ALL THE WAY THERE...LEWYN SAYS THANKS)

But i stopped there bc GAH that was a lot and is late. i will try to finally finish this part tomorrow.

So this chapter was half fun half frustating.

overall is still being a fun ride, bUT WHY CANT YOU WARP TO LACHESIS CASTLE. WHY. IT IS A ALLY. 

oh yeha! i settled on the er predestined pairings gang for this run mostly bc i want to relatively chill in this playthough(and everyone gets pursuit yay!... no angsting over who between tinny and arthur get it!!) (also!! again found Lewyn!Tinny convo so i am cool). And the pursuit ring is going to go to *plays drums* Altena! Passed down by Leif first!. or wait... should i give the pursuit ring to quan?. Hm.. i want taitiu to have it first mostly to level her well. hmm hmm.

so Lewyn x Erinys (auto marry in 4, but i have to watch out for sylvia to not shadow marry him first)

Claude x Sylvia (easier and their movements are similar, plus i always want a healer close to the cavalry)

Azel x Taiutiu (!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THEM!!!! individually and together!!! AND!!! PURSUIT FOR BOTH ARTHUR AND TINNY!!!! YAY)
