REFLECTIONS ON THE YEAR 2014
By Jesse Reyes
As the waning moments of 2014 come to an end, like the dying embers in a fireplace, and the promise of a bright and prosperous New Year looms in the horizon, my thoughts wander back to the beginning of this year.  It started out as being uneventful in the first four months but then it gathered steam, as a locomotive engine would, after that and ended with a loud bang near its end.
Two beautiful garden weddings, where my wife and I were sponsors, transpired this year—the first in May, where Alfredo Esguerra and Mariezel Lorenzo exchanged wedding vows beneath two large oak trees, surrounded by lush vegetation, sun shining brightly at Orchard Ridge Farms near Rockford, IL, a two-hour drive from Chicago; the other garden wedding in July, that of Ryan Baluyot and Kristen Damron’s, who “tied the knot” under a large oak tree with grapevines all around, hills and mountains in a distance, sun almost setting in the west, near the Damron residence in Sta. Rosa, CA near San Francisco.  The latter wedding allowed us to go for a one-day visit to the Castello di Amorosa Winery in Napa Valley after the wedding.
My son Mark and Elaine Abasolo had an unforgettable destination wedding in Maui, Hawaii, in the island they call “Paradise” at the end of August.  It was a romantic setting where they were joined in wedlock--in Haiku Mill, one of the most unique and sought-after wedding and private event venues in the world.  Steeped in history, it was a processing factory for sugarcane from 1861 to 1879.  The front part of the venue had the appearance of the ruins of an old cathedral with vines growing on its walls.
Many friends and relatives from the US and the Philippines graced the occasion with their presence.  My wife’s sister Becky, and her husband Raffy Castillo, and their daughter, Shelly, all three of them doctors from the Philippines, and Jun, my wife’s brother from Texas as well as my two sisters, Adel and daughter Raenelle and husband Kris, and Gwen and her daughter Jenny from California, came.  Relatives of the Abasolos were also present.  We stayed for about 8 days in Hawaii, allowing us to “go on vacation” and enjoy the beauty of Maui after the wedding.
On October 6, my twin grandchildren, Colin and Brianna (they had names picked out even before their birth!) “first saw the light of day” at Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield, IL.  They have been the object of much attention by both relatives and friends, to the detriment of their older brother, Devon, who saw and felt his popularity declining! We assured him, however, that he would always remain number one in our book.
My daughter Michelle and Brian Kelley promised to love each other “till death do us part” on Dec. 14 in a wedding ceremony held at Salvage One in Chicago on a relatively “warm” day, the temperatures in the low 50’s with lots of sun to boot.  The venue was replete with Greek or Romanesque pillars and several chandeliers, the backdrop of the altar made up of four Corinthian style pillars and chandeliers hanging in front.  Everything worked out perfectly, and there was a lot of fun and laughter, especially during the reception.
It turned out to be a family reunion of sorts for my wife’s siblings—Becky Castillo and her daughter, Shelly, from the Philippines, and her other daughter, Abbie and her husband, Glenn Orion from Maryland, David Lorenzo and his family from Virginia and Jun Lorenzo from Texas and also for me--my two sisters, Adel Tauro, and daughter Raenelle and her husband Kris Ramirez, and Gwen Odell, all from California flew to Chicago for the grand occasion. Many of Brian and Michelle’s relatives and friends came from far and near to witness the nuptials.
These jubilant events, along with Mother Nature’s majestic displays, gave me adequate material for my essays and photos, to be posted on Facebook.
I thank God, who in His infinite wisdom and limitless grace allowed all the above happy and memorable events to transpire this year.  All the glory and honor belongs to Him.  “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Rom. 8:28 NIV.

SUP BESTIE!!!!! You know why I'm here, so I have two words for: Wedding Fluff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry school and other shit got in the way but FINALLY OUR GIRLS ARE MARRIED!! Also, I will admit, I've been to two weddings but can't remember much of either of them so I got slightly stuck with this, but I hope it turned out okay
Baby Steps Part 4 (GB!Roman x GB!Trans!Virgil)
"You look beautiful Ro!"
Robin smiled at the wall as she felt her sister fix her veil. "Thanks," she said, letting out a small nervous laugh. She had Rebecca and Patty and Daisy in the room with her as she was getting a few final bits ready. Patty being with her purely so she could walk her down the aisle. Which Robin had insisted that she should probably be there with her own daughter instead, but Patty persevered.
"Listen, Louis is gonna be helping with Virginia and her nerves, don't you stress. If someone needs a mama to walk her down the aisle, I am happy to oblige," she reassured her. Robin couldn't help but be touched at this pure act of kindness. Though kindness was all Patty seemed to act on somedays, so it shouldn't have been unexpected.
"You ready for this, girl?" Rebecca asked her sister, as she passed her her baby daughter. Robin could feel a tightness in her stomach that, as a bit of a performer, she'd never have related to stage fright before in her life. But she was oh so ready for this moment. "I'll be waiting for you up at the front. I love you."
Meanwhile, Virginia was practically shaking at the front of their chosen venue. She looked nervously over the crowd of people that had come to attend the beautiful display of love between her and her future wife. It was in no way big, but to the already jittery woman, it might as well been an ocean. Louis, Virginia's own maid of honor who had grown up with the constantly hyper-vigilant girl, picked up on this more than anyone else. She'd immediately jumped in for comfort.
"Virge," she'd whispered discreetly towards her. "Breathe. It's gonna be fine." Louis gave her baby sister a small smile, as she attempted to do just that. At the very least, Virginia figured she couldn't ruin Robin's big day by having a panic attack. Well, technically it was her big day too. Though truth be told, Virginia wasn't here for the wedding really, she just wanted to be an official couple for all eternity. But she supposed the big event had to come with that, and Robin needed this to be perfect.
Soon, Rebecca took her stance near the front, adjacent to Louis. She looked up at Virginia with a wiggle of her eyebrows. Virginia just humorously shook her head at her. Though the anxiety spiked again. She knew Rebecca for long enough to know that wherever she went, Robin was sure to follow.
And follow she did. God, she was gorgeous in her white lacy dress that showed off her curves in all the right places. Her hair and make-up, as always had been immaculately done. But her smile sold the look. Just the right amount of confidence but also of modesty that blended into pure radiance. Virginia felt a clenching in her throat and tears burning in her eyes as she watched her mother walk her beloved down the aisle, their child balanced on Robin's hip. Virginia counted her lucky stars in that moment to be signing herself up to this beauty.
Robin stepped up in front of her soon-to-be wife, to look up at her. In her long sleeved, black wedding dress (because modesty and darkness suited her best, or at least so Virginia said). She was also more than happy to officially sign herself up to live the rest of her life with this woman. "Hi," she whispered, semi-awkwardly. Virginia took a moment to recollect herself, before nodding back in a small greeting. They smiled warmly at each other.
The service was brief, to Virginia's relief. And surprisingly to Robin's as well, as she worried Daisy would fuss if the service went on for two long. Daisy was quiet as a mouse the whole way through, however. As though somehow she knew this was an important occasion. Finally, after years of waiting for fate to hand-guide them to this moment, those fateful words were uttered.
"You may now kiss the bride."
Virginia grinned at her wife. Her wife beamed up at her. Wife. What a glorious word to call each other. Officially, they were a family. Officially, they were whole.
They could only imagine their family's reactions to that final moment. Patty was definitely crying, no doubt, the emotional sap she is. Rebecca was probably doing her hardest not to yell out in joy (probably making a joke to Jan about what they could potentially be doing at their honeymoon). Louis was standing there, smug and proud that her baby sister was married before her (she wouldn't be jealous at all, Virginia knew, as she already had a stable marriage with her work of course). But that didn't matter to them in that moment. All that mattered was being able to come and press their lips together, for the first time as wives...

While undercover, you run into the boyfriend you left behind.
Fem!Reader, 5.1k
TW: nongraphic depictions of violence, swearing, cigarettes, hints of a toxic relationship (not between reader and Spencer), guns
Note: dual timelines! It goes back and forth for most of the fic.
"Are you sure they want to meet me?" You ask, fiddling with the sleeve of your shirt. It's hard not to overanalyze the outfit you picked out for this occasion, even if you know it's far too late to go back to your place and change. Spencer hates not arriving on time.
He looks at you with a quizzical expression on his face. "Of course they want to meet you."
When in doubt, you love to go for false bravado. "Talk a lot about me?" You smirk, watching a slow blush appear on his cheeks. Stepping forward, you wrap your arms around his middle and gently tug him toward you. He complies easily, his hands automatically settling at the small of your back.
"Is it okay if I do talk about you a lot?"
That makes you smile. "It's sweet."
The blush only gets stronger. "Morgan and Garcia are pretty eager to meet you," he says. "They've been bringing up tonight all week."
He's probably only saying it to make you feel better, but all it does is spike the anxiety brewing in your chest. Garcia's an information junkie; you don't even want to know the things she's already figured out about you. And Morgan is Spencer's best friend. If he doesn't like you, that's probably the beginning of the end for your relationship.
"It'll be great, love," he's firmer this time, melting some of the fire. Your favorite thing he calls you is 'love'. Something about the gentleness of that word, the feelings it implies, and the soft look Spencer gets on his face whenever he uses it makes you want to curl up against him for the rest of your life.
After another moment, the two of you head out the door and to the bar, hands clasped together.
"Y/N!!!!" Garcia practically forces you into a bear hug when you walk over to the BAU's table. "Oh, I am SO glad you could come tonight. I've been looking forward to this for ages! I cannot believe Spencer waited an eternity to bring you around us. You're all he talks about anymore, it's adorable."
You glance back at your boyfriend, who looks a tad horrified. Morgan laughs and slaps him on the back, forcing a cough out of him.
"Hey," JJ greets you, looking so much less intimidating than anyone at the table. You know it's a bit of a farce though. Spencer’s told you enough stories to know that JJ is a woman who can hold her own and hold it well, despite appearances. Idly, you note that she'd be great at undercover work. "I'm JJ. I'm assuming you know that you just got crushed by Garcia. And then there's Morgan, Rossi, Emily, and Hotch." As she said their names, she pointed at them. It was nice to get confirmation, even if you were pretty sure you knew which face belonged to which name.
Hotch nods at you. "It's nice to meet you."
"Is he smiling?" Emily hisses, leaning toward Rossi. "I think Hotch is smiling."
"It's great to finally meet all of you. Spencer’s always talking about you guys," you say, taking your seat. Spencer settles down next to you close enough that your thighs touch. The bar definitely isn't somewhere that he'd normally hang out, but he seems comfortable enough here that you assume it's a frequent spot for the BAU to visit.
A couple hours in, you're feeling tipsy and ridiculously happy. You're getting along particularly well with Emily and JJ, who are both amazing. If he isn't talking to you, Spencer’s usually talking to Morgan and Garcia, who obviously adore him. Hotch and Rossi seem lost in their own private conversations and you wonder if it's because they're the two highest ranking agents here.
"You should totally start joining us when we have girls night!" JJ says, clinking her beer against your glass. "I think you'd really enjoy them."
You nod, feeling flattered. "I'm down to come."
Emily grins, reaching over to knock Spencer’s shoulder. "Your girlfriend is so much cooler than you."
Before you can protest, he nods. "She is," he agrees, smiling at you.
"Awww," Garcia coos, joining the conversation. "Who knew that our baby Spencer was a secret romantic? I love it!"
--
"A wedding?" You ask, pressed up against Cal's side. It's always a bit uncomfortable, almost like your bodies know you don't fit together, that something is amiss. You just hope that your body isn't the thing that finally gets you killed. "That seems below you."
Cal looks down at you, an amused smirk twisting his face. He wants to eat you up, you think. He wants to devour you. "The groom is an old family friend," he explains. "It's courtesy that I attend. And I can hardly go without a ravishing date on my arm."
You rise up on your toes to kiss his cheek, rubbing a bit at the lipstick you leave with the pad of your thumb. "As long as I get to pick my own dress."
"What kind of man would I be if I didn't let you pick it yourself?" His grip on you tightens enough that you wonder if it'll leave a bruise on your hip. Tomorrow, you know you'll find a wad of cash in your purse. In exchange, he'll get to take it off of you after the wedding.
Mercifully, he lets you go a second later. You step back, walking by him. He's done with you for the day. Your relationship is to the point where he doesn't need to formally dismiss you anymore. You've picked him apart and put him back together. Whether he knows it or not, it feels like you've made him the very man that you hate with every fiber of your being. At least, you tell yourself that you hate him. When it gets too hard, when you find yourself falling under his spell, you picture the last boyfriend you had as yourself. A man full of shy smiles, sweet compliments, gentle kisses, and the most beautiful assortment of random knowledge. When he's in your mind, you don't get lost in the person you're pretending to be. It's the only time you feel like yourself.
Of course, being yourself too much would get you killed, so you limit yourself.
You go dress shopping the next day. Cal gave you an absurd budget, so you manage to pick out an extravagant dress and also a pair of shoes and earrings. This morning, Cal had mentioned that the wedding was going to be a black tie event, giving you an excuse to feel like a princess. Well. Maybe a trapped princess, like Cinderella or Rapunzel. You walk out of the store with a heavy bag on your arm. When you return to the house, it's blissfully empty. Cal isn't due back until late, but you still do a full walk around the house, double checking before you go out to the garden. The first few months you lived here, the garden was the responsibility of the landscapers that stopped by occasionally, but you batted your eyes and sucked on Cal's lip until he agreed to give it to you. Now, no one else was allowed to touch it per his orders. And he wasn't the kind of man his staff said no to.
Basically, it was a perfect hiding spot. You go over to the daisies, digging a little until you find the box that contained your current burner phone. You'd have to switch soon, probably within the next few weeks. It was close to dying and it was never a good idea to keep the same phone number for an extended period of time. You dial the number once, hang up immediately, dial again, let it ring three times, hang up, and then dial for a final time. Your handler answers quickly.
"What?" He asks, gruff.
"We're going to a wedding near Virginia."
You hear him suck in a breath. "Close to where you used to live."
"I know."
"If you get recognized-"
"I won't."
He pauses. "Stay safe."
You hang up the phone and pray you make it through this alive.
--
On your one year anniversary, Spencer brings you to a museum. He walks you through all the exhibits, rambling about anything he knows in regards to your surroundings. His hands keep waving through the air, his eyes bright and alive, a grin splitting his face. It's obvious that he's in his element.
You love him so badly that it hurts, sometimes.
By the time you reach the gift shop, your brain is full of knowledge you probably won't ever need again.
"Sorry," Spencer says suddenly, looking at you. "Did I just bore you? You know you're allowed to cut me off when I get going."
You shake your head, kissing his cheek. "It was cute. I loved it."
Once you're done there, the two of you head back to his apartment. Last month, the two of you had decided not to do gifts, electing just to spend the day together instead. You cuddle with him on the couch, your body tucked perfectly against his. In this moment, you feel safe. You're with a man you know loves you, and you love him back just as fiercely. Life is good.
--
You and Cal arrive in Virginia at the crack of dawn, early enough that it feels like you should still be rubbing the sleep out of your eyes even though you've been awake for hours. “Who even has weddings before noon? I didn’t even think that was a thing.”
Cal chuckles beside you, his arm snaking around you. In this moment, it’s hard not to shudder. You’ve never understood his need to always touch you, claim you for the world to see. As far as he knows, you’ve never belonged to anyone else. You were born and bred for this, a perfect lover. Just enough sass, just enough danger, just enough compliance, just enough meekness. He doesn’t know that this isn’t the real you, that you’re always on the verge of screaming your head off. One day, he’ll learn. It’ll end in one of your deaths.
Hopefully, it’ll end in his death.
"We'll stop at the hotel first, darling," Cal takes your hand as he talks, leading you along the side of the road. God, you remember this place. Of course you do. This is your home turf. A new name and a new look doesn't mean that this doesn't feel like home. "You can get changed and refreshed before we head to the venue."
You shrug. "Sounds good to me."
The walk is blissfully short, but the hotel is grand. It's definitely not somewhere you would have been able to afford. Honestly, you're almost disgusted by how the place practically bleeds money and how well Cal seems to blend into this new environment.
Once you're in the room, you toss your suitcase onto the bed, hissing when the action results in a broken nail. Cal laughs at you as you stick your finger in your mouth. He comes over after a beat, pulling at your hand to inspect your nail. For a second, it looks like he's going to lick your finger, but he just lets you go. "Get dressed," he tells you, kissing your forehead. "I want to see how stunning you're going to look."

"Something's off about you."
You whip around, coming face to face with Emily. She's wearing an expression you recognize, but not on her: perfect blankness. There's no trace of a personality, no trace of a name attached to the person that spoke. Something tightens in your chest and you crane your neck to look at Spencer, who's blissfully unaware of the words that were just spoken. Instead, he's fully engaged in a conversation with JJ and Will, hands flapping as they smile warmly at him.
"I don't know what you're talking about," you say to Emily, crafting a neutral but surprised look to wear on your own face. "Not sure I appreciate the tone, though."
Emily scoffs. "Don't play dumb with me. Come on. I know you got the same feeling about me."
She's right, even though you don't admit it. It almost feels like when two predators acknowledge each other in the wild- they know they're evenly matched, and so they go their separate ways. Except that everyone in the room is a predator. You and Emily are a different breed, though.
She's done deep undercover work.
"Ladies!" Rossi interrupts, throwing an arm around Emily’s shoulders. If he notes any tension, he doesn't comment on it. "Why are you being antisocial over here?" He points at you. "Your boyfriend has been talking the ears off of JJ and Will. I honestly couldn't even tell you what about."
You shrug. "They don't seem to mind."
"Am I not allowed to talk to her?" Emily asks, eyebrow quirked. "I need to make sure she's not a secret spy."
Rossi laughs. "Garcia would have already sniffed that out, don't worry. Y/N passed her background check with flying colors."
"Did you?" You ask Emily, a small smile playing on your lips.
"Of course."
By now, Rossi’s gotten a good taste of the strangers of this interaction. He glances between you, eyes narrowing as they settle on you. You don't change your face.
"Actually, I think I'll join Spencer," you say, sliding past the two of them.
Spencer welcomes you gladly, folding you seamlessly into the conversation. Throughout most of it, you wonder how everyone else can understand what Will's saying. For all you know, he could be telling you off.
When you turn your head, you notice that Emily’s still looking at you. When you nod at her, she nods back.
You hope that's the end of it.
--
An hour in, you figure out that you hate weddings.
It doesn't help that you've been ditched. Cal was stuck to you like glue just long enough for you two to walk in together before he mumbled something about "important business" and took off. Currently, you're sitting alone at a table toward the back of the venue. You don't know what the hell you got so dressed up for or why you chose such a risky dress. One wrong move meant that everyone here was going to see a lot more of you than you were comfortable with.
"Hey, pretty lady," a man greets you, plopping himself in one of the empty seats next to you. You blink at him. "All alone here?"
"I'm here with my boyfriend."
He sighs, putting his sweaty hands on the table. "Now, what kind of man would leave his lady all by her lonesome?"
"How about you leave before I kick your ass?"
Cal laughs behind you, alerting you to his presence. You turn around, smiling at him. He's got a warm look on his face, the one that's only reserved for you.
"Oh!" The stranger yelps, standing up so fast that he rattles the table. "I didn't realize you were Cal's-"
"Just go," you tell him, waving him off. He doesn't waste any time.
Cal takes the empty seat. "I don't know why I bothered having security. You're scarier than all of them."
You roll your eyes. "Uh huh. Have fun chatting up all the old rich men here?"
He takes your hand. "I'm sorry to leave you alone for so long." Lifting your hand, he kisses it. You blush.
"I'm assuming you have to go back to that?"
He nods. "Will you be okay here?"
"I think I'm going to go smoke, actually."
He's the one that got you into cigarettes, so he doesn't protest this. "Go out the west wing exit," he says instead. "There's always too much traffic at the main doors."
The two of you part, heading in opposite directions. It takes you a bit to find the right exit, but you're blissful when the crisp air finally hits your face. The view isn't bad, either, but it does make your heart ache.
For some stupid reason, you hadn't realized that the venue was so close to the museum Spencer loved taking you to.
You take your sweet time outside, cigarette dangling loosely from your fingers. It's the most relaxed you've felt all day, away from the prying eyes that know you as someone else. This assignment has already gone on for longer than you'd expected, but Cal is a tough nut to crack. Every time you think you have his complete trust, that he'll tell you what you need to know, a door slams shut in your face, or he gets angry with you for the littlest action. You take a drag, watching the smoke dissipate in the air.
"Y/N?" A familiar voice asks.
Your heart stops.
--
Your blood freezes in your veins, seemingly distorting everything around you. "What?" You whisper into the phone.
"He'll be okay," JJ soothes. "He's getting checked out by an EMT as we speak, I promise. I'm staring at him right now."
"What happened?"
She pauses, which doesn't fill you with any kind of confidence. "He went in after the unsub without backup. They ended up getting into a bit of a fight before Morgan and I could get to him. The three of us took down the unsub together, Spence is just...bruised."
"Any cracked ribs?" You ask.
"I'll let you know as soon as I find out. I'll call back in a few, okay?"
Before you can reply, the line is disconnected.
For the next eleven minutes and thirty-two seconds, you don't move a muscle. This wasn't the first time Spencer had gotten hurt since you'd started dating- perks of being with someone that hunted serial killers for a living- but that did nothing to comfort you now. Your mind always went to the worst possible place, combing over your last interaction with Spencer, wondering if he died now, would he know how much you loved him? While you were at a desk job currently, most of your career had been spent never knowing if you'd make it to dawn. This had been ingrained in you by now. You've seen people die, you've seen people be killed in a heartbeat. You survived that.
You couldn't survive Spencer dying.
The second your phone rings, it's answered and at your ear. "How is he?"
"Y/N," Spencer says into the phone, and you feel your entire body relax.
Instead of answering him, you burst into tears.
"Hey, hey. I'm okay, love."
"Sorry!" You practically wail, covering your mouth with your hand. "Sorry. What did the EMT say? How are you feeling? When will you be home?"
He answers your questions in a steady tone, obviously still worried about your emotional level. "We're getting on the jet once JJ and Hotch finish wrapping up with the detectives here."
"Promise?"
"I promise, Y/N."
Twelve hours later, Spencer is wrapped in your arms. He has a cracked ribs and an assortment of bruises, but he's breathing and he's here.
"Are you ever going to tell me what happened to you that causes such a dramatic reaction?" He asks, making you tense.
"Spence…"
He sighs. "I know."
This was the biggest rift in your relationship. He pours his heart out day by day, and you're a shell of a woman with none of that to offer him. You can’t talk about most of your career. Even now, at a boring desk job, you're handling other people's undercover identities. You requested a break from going undercover and gotten it, but there's a part of your brain that still knows not to trust that. They could try to send you away tomorrow.
--
Spencer. Spencer is here. Spencer is staring at you. Spencer just said your name.
You know what you have to do, even if it'll hurt both of you. You'd tear yourself open to keep him safe, set yourself on fire to keep him safe, but that doesn't mean it'll be any easier to break his heart to keep him safe.
"I'm sorry?" You ask, scrunching your face up in confusion. "I think you have the wrong person."
You don't look exactly like you did when you dated Spencer. Your hair is a different color and cut, and your face has started hollowing out from stress and hate. Honestly, there's been times where you haven't even recognized yourself in the mirror.
He repeats your name, taking a step toward you. Instinct has taught you well, so even though you want to run forward into his arms, you take a step back.
He looks different since the last time you saw him. Different, but good. He's filled out more, his hair is longer, and he's holding himself with more authority. This Spencer isn't constantly curled in on himself, you know. He isn't always trying to make himself lesser. He's maintained his kind eyes, though. They're staring straight through you, searching for things you can't give him. All you can remember is the love you shared with him, the love you smashed when you left. It makes you ache.
This is conformation of your deepest fear: he's better off without you.
"That isn't my name," you tell him, cocking your head to the side. The cigarette, you notice, has fallen to the ground. You wonder if he's noticed, but you step on it all the same. "My name is Reva."
"Reva." It sounds distinctly wrong coming from his lips, like it doesn't quite fit despite his efforts to force it. By this point, you're well used to being called the wrong name. Something about the way Spencer says it still makes you want to cringe.
Regardless, he can't know any of that. He still has some hope in his eyes, although it's being muddled by confusion. "Yes," you confirm. "Look, I'm sorry you can't find who you're looking for. I'm not her, though."
"I'm sorry, too."
"Reva!" You hear, and you turn to find Cal coming out the door. Whipping your head back at Spencer, you gesture for him to leave, feeling some of your panic leak out into the open. Cal doesn't get to look at Spencer. He doesn't get to talk to Spencer.
Out of desperation, you practically leap into Cal's arms, kissing him firmly on the mouth. He’s surprised, but since he never says no to this kind of thing, he pulls you closer and deepens it. “Can we get out of here?” You whine, lowering your hands to right below his ass.
“I think that sounds perfect.”
As he takes your hand to lead you back into the venue, you spare one last look at Spencer. He’s rooted to the spot, mouth slightly agape as he stares at you.
You have the sinking feeling that you didn’t trick him well enough.
--
When you go into the office on Monday, you know. Your supervisor is standing at your desk, a grim expression on his face.
“I don’t want to go,” you tell him automatically.
All the other times you’ve been under, there’s been no one on the other side to miss you. Now, though? You think of Penelope, who likes surprising you with different kinds of flowers, of Rossi, who taught you how to make your first authentic Italian dish, of Hotch, who you just managed to work a soft smile out of, of JJ, who automatically gravitates toward you whenever you’re in a room together, of Morgan, who lifted you up and spun you around when you admitted to him that you could see a forever with Spencer, and god- Spencer. You don’t want to leave Spencer. You could survive without him, but there’d forever be a light missing.
“Come on into my office,” your supervisor tells you. “We have a lot to talk about.”
--
For the first time in a long time, you cry yourself to sleep.
The next day, you make your way back into the garden. Cal’s out again, probably plotting something that will result in death and destruction. You’re frustrated that he’s been so difficult to get through to, you’re frustrated that you saw Spencer last night, and all you want to do is throw your head back and scream until your throat is raw and bleeding. That isn’t an option, so all you can do is dig up your phone and make the call.
When you tell him what happened, all you get is a sigh before he hangs up. Figures. “Asshole.”
--
“What do you want me from me, huh?” You scream, hands balled into fists at your side. Your breath is heavy, weighing the room down.
Spencer scoffs at you. “I’ve made it perfectly clear what I want, you just aren’t listening anymore.”
“I can’t give you that.”
He won’t look at you anymore. Tears have started gathering in his eyes, and while you want to wipe them away, you know you don’t have the right. You’re the one that put them there, you’re the one making him act like this.
“It feels like I barely know you sometimes,” he says, and you don’t even have a counter argument for that. You’ve been so many people. At this point, you’re a jigsaw puzzle of everyone you’ve ever been, but he’s missing too many pieces to solve you.
When you don’t respond, he sighs, running his hand through his hair. And then-
“I don’t think I can do this anymore.”
You suck in a breath. “What?”
His voice firms. “I don’t think I can do this anymore, Y/N. I don’t know if this is working. I don't think I want to keep trying."
Before he can say anything else, before you can make your case, before you can fight for him, your legs are already carrying you out the door.
You make a single phone call.
“I’m in. Tell me more about the assignment.”
--
On a Wednesday, it ends. It's months since you saw Spencer. Part of you had expected some big event to come from that, whether it be Cal stabbing you in the stomach or Spencer somehow tracking you down to save you. Life isn't a romance movie, though, so you just went back to being alone.
And finally, after a century of careful prodding and poking, you get the information you need to take Cal down.
As the sun shines and the birds chirp, the SWAT team bursts through the door, shouting to get down. You scream Cal's name, knowing that your performance isn't going to be over until he never gets to see daylight again.
Unfortunately, Cal never goes down without a fight. He comes out guns blazing, shooting one of the SWAT members before they even register that he's there. In a flash, you're pressed up against Cal's chest, the barrel of his gun pressed to your head.
"You motherfucker," you whisper.
"I'm sorry, baby," he says to you, raising his voice to talk to the SWAT team. "Back off or I'll shoot!"
This fantastic plan results in you bleeding from a bullet wound in your stomach, curled on the ground and Cal is hauled off by SWAT. One of them approaches you once everyone else is gone.
"Good work, Y/N."
--
You hate hospitals. You hate the lights, the sounds, the smells, and the general fear of death that spikes whenever you enter through the doors. You've already been debriefed, already destroyed Reva. As far as Cal knows, you bled to death on his living room floor.
As you start to drift off to sleep, you hear a sudden clanging from down the hall, muffled voices oozing in frustration. Footsteps start up again, and then-
Oh.
Spencer’s in your room.
"Y/N," he gapes, coming up to the side of the bed. He starts to reach for your hand before aborting the motion; in response, you grab his instead. You're too weak to deny him right now. "Oh, god. Y/N."
"How are you here?" You ask.
"Penelope. I knew it was you outside the venue, and once the shock wore off, I knew you were undercover. We've been trying to locate you ever since, but your name pinged on her alerts when you were admitted here. What happened?"
"SWAT guy shot me."
The two of you lock eyes, and you're horrified to discover that you're both on the verge of crying. "Spence-"
He hugs you, arms gentle as he settles onto the bed. As you sob into his arms, you feel more at home than you have in a very long time.
--
Two weeks later, you're curled in his bed.
Things aren't normal. You've been gone for over a year and you left things completely unfinished. Not to mention that you've screamed yourself awake every night, panic attacks and sobs wrecking you even as Spencer whispers comforts as he holds you. But you're safe.
Another day later, Spencer helps you sit up before announcing, "We need to talk."
"I know."
He starts fiddling with the sleeves of his cardigan. "You- you left."
"You told me to."
"No! I-" he sighs, pulling harder at his sleeves. "I know it sounded that way. But I love you, Y/N. Then and now. I was never done trying for you."
You laugh a little. It doesn't sound right. "You don't love me now. I'm not even...I don't know how much of myself is even left anymore."
"So let me find out," he pleads. "Let me learn to love all the new things about you, let me cherish what hasn't changed."
"I'm sorry for running."
"I'm sorry for not chasing after you."
--
Your first date after coming back to yourself is a walk through the park. Spencer figures you can handle that, figures you won't get too overwhelmed or pained from the experience. He still lets you lean against him the entire time.
Since the first initial conversation, you've had many more. You've detailed your thoughts, as well as your experiences with Cal. You fought and fought and fought with your supervisor to get the clearance to tell Spencer, reminding him that you refused to ever go under again and that Spencer was an agent. Eventually, he folded. Spencer still had to sign an absurd amount of paperwork. In turn, Spencer explained the things he'd been up to since you left, how he refused to lose you again once he spotted you.
Things aren't perfect. They are better, though.
"Hey," you say, pulling at his hand until he stops. "I love you."
A big smile spreads across his face, and he leans forward until your foreheads are touching. "I love you too."
When you kiss him, you vow to yourself to never leave again.

It had been just a few short months since Aaron’s surprise proposal, after which the two of you had made a mutual decision to get married as soon as possible. The team had been delighted by the news, Penelope immediately jumping into full maid of honor mode. Rossi, being the most caring and generous friend out there, had insisted on taking care of everything and wouldn’t take no for an answer; even going so far as to offer his house for the venue.
Sitting in a luxurious upstairs room of the Rossi home, and being doted upon by your friends, you couldn’t help but feel a little like a princess for the first time since you couldn’t remember when. The day was finally here that you officially got to spend forever with the man of your dreams. Even after all this time, sometimes it still felt too good to be true.
Gazing out an open window, you could see backyard where the ceremony was to be held in just a few short hours and your heart began to race. You were snapped back to the present moment by the sound of your best friend’s voice.
“Earth to Y/N! Come in, Y/N!” She said, waving her hands in front of your face.
“I’m sorry, I got distracted. What was the question?”
“Your lipstick hon, what color?”
“Whatever color you think is best, Penny. I trust you to make me look beautiful.”
“You always look beautiful,” chimes in a voice from across the room.
“Thank you, Emily.”
Penelope finished off your makeup with waterproof mascara and JJ stepped in to put the final touches on your hair with delicate pearl hairpins.
As the hours passed and the final preparations were made, you could feel the nerves building.
Penelope, Emily, and JJ all helped you into your dress; a beautiful white gown with off the shoulder lace sleeves, a fitted lace covered bodice, and lace trim around the bottom of the full skirt. You were truly a sight to behold. Buttoning up the back of the gown, JJ asks, “You’ve been pretty quiet, Y/N. Is everything okay?”
“It’s just nerves, I think.” you reply. “I’d really like to see Aaron.”
“See Aaron before the wedding?” Penelope interjects, “You can’t! It’s bad luck!”
You knew there was no arguing with her and your spirits sank a little, disappointment written all over your face.
“What if we got Jack instead?” Offers JJ. “Would that help?”
Thinking it over, you give a small smile and a nod. “Yes, I think I’d like that. Thank you, JJ.”
“I’ll call Morgan and have them come up.”
Five minutes later, a knock at the door.
“I’ll get it,” you say, opening it before anyone can protest.
There stands Derek Morgan with the boy you’ve come to love as your own.
“You look amazing,” says Morgan taking in the sight of you with wide eyes. “Hotch is a lucky man.”
“Thank you, Derek.” You reply, giving him a tight hug. Pulling back and taking him by the hand, you make a request. “Will you tell him that I love him, and that I’ll see him soon?”
“Anything for you, lovely,” he says with a playful grin.
“You’re a good friend, Derek.”
With that, he retreats back downstairs to deliver your message, leaving Jack with you. Just having him there was already soothing your frayed nerves. Ushering him inside you ask, “How’s my handsome ring bearer? You’re not nervous are you?”
“No! I’m gonna do a great job, I promise! You look real pretty, just like a princess.”
“You are so sweet, little man. I know you’ll do amazing.”
“Y/N?”
“What is it, Jack?” You inquire, kneeling down to his level.
“Can I call you mom now?”
The question took you quite by surprise, causing tears to well up in your eyes.
“Do you want to?”
“Yeah, if it’s okay with you. I miss having a mom.”
Those few words are enough to break the dam and tears began to stream as you pulled the boy in for a hug. “Of course it’s okay with me.” you manage to choke out.
“Mom! Mom!” Jack squeaks.
“Yeah buddy?”
“You’re squeezing me too hard, I can’t breathe.”
Loosening your grip, you apologize.
“Don’t cry, everything’s gonna be okay,” Jack says reassuringly. Man, he is so much like his father.
“I’m crying because I’m happy, Jack. I just love you and your dad so much.”
“I love you too, Mama.”
“I hate to break up this sweet family moment,” Penelope cuts in, “But it’s almost time to get this show on the road. Jack I’ll take you back down to your dad.” Handing you a tissue, she makes her exit.
Emily and JJ sweep the room making sure nothing is left behind. “We’ve got to go,” says JJ, grabbing Emily by the arm and making her way to the door. “You look perfect, Rossi should be up soon. Love you.”
Sitting down for a moment, you gently pat your eyes dry. At least your mascara held up. In the quiet it finally began to sink in how all your wildest dreams were coming to life right before you eyes.
When the door opened again, there was Dave. Handing over your bouquet of pink roses he asks, “You ready for this, kid?”
“Absolutely,” you reply with a childlike grin.
He offers his arm and you rest your hand in the crook of his elbow, infinitely grateful for the fatherly presence.
“Then let’s get this party started.”
As the two of you arrived downstairs at the back door, you hear the processional music already playing. Luckily you had made it just in time for Rossi to give Jack his official ring-bearing instructions.
“Alright Jack. You know what to do. Just walk straight down to the end and give the rings to Derek. Then you can sit down with your Aunt Jess, okay?”
“Got it,” says Jack, giving a thumbs up.
“Go get ‘em kid,” Rossi encourages, opening the door.
Now it’s just the two of you left indoors. Rossi watches until Jack finishes his assigned duty and makes his way back to you as the music changes.
“That’s our cue,” he states, once again offering his arm.
——————————————————————————
Aaron hadn’t been nervous at all until that moment. When the music changed and the guests stood in preparation for your entrance, his hands began to shake.
“You alright, man?” Morgan inquires.
“Yeah, I’m just ready to have Y/N by my side.”
Just as he turned back from the short conversation, the double doors swung open and you made your entrance.
With the first glimpse of your radiant smile, he was immediately overwhelmed with emotion and moved to tears. Only somewhat managing to regain his composure, he took in every detail as you approached. The delicate lace of your gown, the afternoon sun making a halo of light on his own personal angel. A bouquet of perfect pink roses, just like the ones he had given you after your rudely interrupted second date. Time seemed to slow down, the walk that was in reality only a couple of minutes stretched into ages as he longed to have you near.
Then when your eyes finally met his with a look of pure love, all was right with the world.
At the end of the aisle, Rossi turns to you with one simple request.
“Take good care of our man.”
“I will,” you promise, giving the older man a kiss on the cheek before joining Aaron at the altar. Producing a handkerchief, you gently dried the remaining tears from his ever handsome face.
“Hey You,” he intones softly, hand grazing the side of your face. “I’ve been waiting for you.”
The rest of the world seems to fade away as the minister begins the service and the two of you are lost in each other’s eyes.
“The couple have chosen to write their own vows,” the minister states, snapping you both back to attention. “Y/N?”
Softly clearing your throat and looking deep into Aaron’s warm brown eyes, you begin.
“Aaron, If someone had told me over a year ago that I would be marrying a man that I met on a blind date set up by my best friend, I would have said that they were crazy. I had all but given up on finding true love. I went anyway. And everyday since, I thank God that I did. If it hadn’t been for that blind date, I would have never met the love of my life. I would have never met the most amazing group of friends that turned into family, who are standing by our sides even now. I would have never gained the most wonderful, loving little boy who I now get the privilege of calling my son. I promise that I will love both of you always. I promise that I will always be there, no matter how difficult the road becomes. And if you must venture into the darkness, I promise to always bring you back to the light”
Sniffling back tears, and taking a moment to gather his thoughts, Aaron speaks.
“Y/N, the long road that led me to you was full of heartache. When I met you, all of that changed for the better. Everyone says that I’m lucky to have you, but to be honest, I don’t feel lucky. I feel blessed. Every day with you is a blessing and a gift. There’s not a day that I’m not thankful for every pain and every heartache that I’ve been through, because without that journey, I would never have made it here to you. I’m not sure how it’s possible, but I fall a little more in love with you every day. When I’m finished with a long case, your arms feel like home. You’re the comfort for my weary soul when the world gets rough. I promise to spend the rest of my days loving you and hoping that it amounts to even a fraction of what you’ve shown to me.”
When you both looked up, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Morgan hands Aaron the velvet pillow and you quickly exchange rings, suddenly anxious for the upcoming part of the ceremony.
The voice of the minister rings out once again.
“By the power vested in me by the state of Virginia, I now pronounce you husband and wife! Aaron, you may kiss your bride.”
Cheers rang out from the crowd as he pulled you in for a long, warm kiss. Probably too long for a wedding, but with the heart-stopping heat that clouded your minds, neither of you cared much.
As you come up for air, Aaron literally sweeps you off your feet, carrying you to the reception area. As you wait for the guests to make their way over, it finally sinks in. You’re finally married to your one true love.
As soon as the guests are all seated, dinner is served. Then before you could even blink, it’s time for speeches. Penelope taps her glass with a fork, capturing the attention of the room.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate two of our favorite people on the joyous occasion of their marriage. I would like to remind everyone that this is all my doing. If I hadn’t taken the liberty of setting these two sweet little lovebirds up on a blind date, we probably wouldn’t be here today. You’re welcome,” she says turning to face the two of you. “But in all seriousness, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.”
Handing the mic over to Rossi, Penelope is seated.
“Where do I start?” He laughs. “I’ve known Aaron probably longer than anyone here. He’s always been more than just a good man. He is a loyal friend, and a great dad for Jack. If anyone in the world deserves true happiness, it’s this guy,” he says, placing a hand your husband’s shoulder. “We’ve seen your relationship with Y/N flourish and come to love her as one of our own. I can confidently say that she will a loving mother, and a caring, patient wife. I wish every blessing for the both of you from this moment forward.”
Rising from your seats to hug your two friends, you’re reminded by Penelope that’s time for your first dance. Taking you gently by the hand, Aaron leads you to the middle of the empty dance floor. With everyone watching your heart begins to race until Aaron pulls you close. The nerves melt away as you rest your head on his chest and his arms circle your waist. The two of you sway softly as the music begins:
We could leave the Christmas lights up ‘til January
This is our place, we make the rules
And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear
Have I known you 20 seconds, or 20 years?
As the song goes continues and you look into his eyes so full of love, you can’t help but sing along.
Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close
Forever and ever?
Take me out, and take me home.
You’re my, my, my, my.... Lover.
Listening to the words you’re singing, he can’t help but fall in love all over.
My heart’s been borrowed and your has been blue
All’s well that ends well to end up with you
Swear to be overdramtic and true to my.... Lover
You pour you heart out in song, desperately hoping that Aaron knows how much you mean every word. He does. The sincerity is written all over your lovely face.
As the music slowly winds down, the guest begin to join the two of you on the dance floor.
Tapping Aaron on the shoulder, Rossi cuts in for his turn. You manage to dance with everyone, even Reid, reluctant though he may be. The whole team was having a great time, laughing and dancing when Penelope had to slip back into maid of honor mode. Grabbing both you and Aaron by the wrist she all but drags you to the table.
Approaching the cake, you grab the slicer with your right hand. Pressing closely against your back and giving you a soft kiss on the cheek, Aaron covers your hand with his. After cutting two small slices, you turn to face each other. Taking a piece in hand you raise it to Aaron and he opens his mouth just before you smear it across his unsuspecting face.
Closing his eyes and trying hard not to laugh, he responds.
“Oh so that’s how it’s gonna be, huh?”
“Yep!” you tease gleefully. “What are you gonna do about it, Mister?”
“This!” He exclaims, returning the favor and smashing the cake in your face.
“Really should have seen that one coming,” you muse.
“Yeah you should have.”
At that moment he pulls you close, pressing his soft lips to yours for the sweetest kiss ever known to mankind and the room burts into a fresh round of cheers.
The two of you scurried off to get cleaned up, and when you make your return, Penelope is waiting with your next task. A car is waiting to take you to the airport for your honeymoon. It’s time to go.
You make your rounds saying goodbye as everyone makes their way out for your final exit. One last song comes on as you make your way out and Aaron holds you close, singing in his perfect deep voice as you stroll through thrown confetti:
I was a boat stuck in a bottle
That never got the chance to touch the sea
But I came to life when I first kissed you
The best me has his arms around you
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I’m yours
The worst me is just a long gone memory
You put a new heartbeat inside of me
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I’m yours
By the time you made it to car and sat down you were in tears for probably the tenth time that night, you’d lost count.
The car was just about to pull away when Emily sprinted up to the door. Leaning down, she spoke to both of you.
“Hey you crazy kids, have fun! And remember, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!”
“Emily there’s nothing you wouldn’t do,” returns Aaron, catching you by surprise.
“Exactly,” she replies, slamming the door and slapping the roof of the car. You could have sworn you saw a wink.
As the car pulls away, the two of you get your first truly private moment of the night to process what just happened.
Snuggled close to Aaron’s left side, your head rests on his chest and his left arm drapes around your shoulder.
“We’re married,” you state, reaching to touch the gold band on his left ring finger.
“Yes we are,” he whispers, softly pressing a kiss to your temple.
“You’re my husband,”
“Uh huh,” he agrees, gently stroking your hair.
Looking up into his gorgeous face you confess once more, “I love you, Aaron Hotchner.”
After a slight pause, he replies with a smirk,
“I love you more.... Mrs. Hotchner.”

We got to Missouri and ended up new near Laura Ingall's Wilder house and decided to stop and see it.   It was very interesting and she had a very interesting life before she starting writing the books about that life. As luck would have it, there was a campground right across the road from the house. We spent a nice relaxing evening there is there and then headed East on route state 160 which was like a rollercoaster but nice driving and good pavement.   Sep 2    We found a campground that was only available for one night  on Thursday. It's a campground specifically designed for 4 wheelers to come and ride around in the wilderness. It's near the river and quiet hours don't start until midnight! The owners of the campground ask us to come over after we ate and visit with her friends and family.  It was an interesting visit. Her husband and a couple of the other guys are Civil War  Re-enactors. They have some interesting stories about incidences happen during some of their maneuvers.  In the morning we went over and spent a couple of hours chatting with some other people and had a great time but finally had to leave   Sep 3    We were close to Loretta Lynn's home place in Butcher Holler so we decided to go there. Getting there was a hoot and the road turn into a single lane road and there was no place to park for an RV. We drove past the house and turned around on a on a very narrow turnaround place. Wed were able to park parallel to the road. The house was very interesting and had most of the original furniture. Her 2 nieces gave the tours and they knew much more about a her than any person who had been schooled in it.  Since it was Friday night of the Labor Day weekend, we could not find a campground so we had to sleep in the Hardee’s parking lot.   Sep 4    We drove to the New River gorge National Park. There were no rooms at the end at the 1st two RV parks but we found a nice park across from a National Guard armory and decided to spend 2 nights. In the morning, we went to the New River Gorge National Park.  You can walk under the bridge, but there were no openings at the private company that ran the bridge walk.  The bridge is the longest single-arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere and the 3rd longest in the world.  It was the longest in the world for 26 years when first completed. We drove down to the bottom of the gorge and stopped on the way to look at the bridge construction. We drove over the river to the other side of the bridge and parked to come back and look at it from a different perspective.  The signs said the road was not recommended for RVs or trailers, but when we parked on the other side of the river there were school busses and trailers carrying raft equipment for people who raft down the river down the river. We met a group from Raleigh and New Jersey who commented that they were looking at a Leisure Travel Van to purchase so we showed them ours.  At 1st we didn't know they were from Raleigh but when we found out I told them I had graduated from NC State. One gentleman, Clive, had graduated from state and the other man was from New Jersey. They had a Chinese grandmother with them along with the Chinese wives from New York City and we had a great conversation. I showed them my lifetime membership to the NC STATE student union.  The grandmother said when you come to Raleigh again you must come visit and I said be careful what you ask for. You only have to give me your address. I gave them my card but we haven't heard from them.   Next day.    We had two things on our minds for the next day and decided to drive down to an old abandoned coal mine. Again it said the road was not suitable for RVs, but I stopped at the last leg of the trip and asked the man living there if our RV could make the trip. He looked it over said, ”Yup” because he drives his oversized pickup truck down there often to the river. It was an interesting drive and we had to blow our horn around a couple of the curves to make sure no one ran into us. Sure enough one curve had someone coming around and she heard our horn and stopped before we smacked into each other. Her little Chevy would have been a hood ornament on the Mercedes. It was a pretty interesting drive all the way and when we were 100' from the parking lot there was a pothole on the left side. I decided to go a little bit right to miss that instead of slowing down too much and there was a rock hidden in the grass and it tore out our steps from the side door. We were able to tie the mangled steps up to the frame to drive back out of the area. I stopped and told the man who said that RV would go there that we lost the steps. He was apologetic but I told him it was not his fault.  I asked if he knew someone who had a torch that I could get to cut the mangled steps off so we could continue our trip. He said to pull over front of my white truck there. As I drove over to it, I noticed that he had cutting torches on the back of his truck and he was a welder. How lucky can you be when you are so unlucky to start with. He cut the mangled steps off and we discovered that he had trained to be a tanker at Ft Knox after I had been there. We had a nice talk and he wouldn’t take any pay for the work. We went back to the campground and worked on the minor metal damage under the door. The motor was still working but it had nothing to move. I think I'll leave the body damage alone to remind me of my situation. There was plenty of room to make the drive I just had a 50-50 decision and went right instead of left. At least I can buy a new set of steps on Amazon and put them on when I get home. There are only 4 bolts holding the step mechanism is up to the frame.   Next day    We drove down to the end of the gorge and turned back up to the Sandstone Falls that are part of the National Park. There is a boardwalk that you can walk out to see them and it's a very interesting area. We met a nice couple from Virginia Beach, Ted and Julinne on the way out there. They have been thinking about buying an RV like ours to start traveling with in a couple of years. They were very interesting couple and had traveled a bit already. We invited them to have a cup of coffee with us because it was coffee time and we ended up spending 2 and a 1/2 hours discussing the RV, traveling what’s to see in Virginia et cetera. We hope we hear from them again and they said they would to ask us more information about the RV. On the way in we had seen an RV park on the river so we went back to that and stopped because it was getting late. We got a spot there for the night and it was very peaceful on the river.   Next day    We had morning fog below the ridge line call my but it was very nice and we had a relaxing start to the morning. We headed toward the north end of the Shenandoah Valley National Park. We got within 2 hours of my cousins house and her 3 daughters before we stopped for the night. I contacted them by phone and I thought by text but the text didn't work. We spent the night in a Walmart parking lot because there were no openings at the nearby RV parks.   Next day    We had given up seeing my cousins because I had not heard back from them, but in the morning, they called me and said please come by. We went to Ashburn, Virginia to see them and were able to park in the driveway. We had a good 3 hour or so visit is and they decided to go for a late lunch at one of their favorite restaurants. It was an old barn converted to a restaurant and it added on to it with different venue spaces and had several bars. In one bar they had carriages hanging from the ceiling from different eras. When we got back to the house about 5, I said guess we'll be going now try to get somewhere before it got too late. They said the traffic will be pretty bad and said why don't you spend the night. We said, well if you don't mind we'd love to. They have a 5-bedroom, 5,500 ft² house on 3 levels to the head plenty of room. We stayed up watching the news and then the US Open tennis matches and talking until midnight when I suspect they usually go to bed pretty early. I had not visited with my cousin or her family except for a funeral for her brother and we didn't get to visit very much then.  The three sisters have been living together for several years, at least 20, I think.  When their dad died a few years ago, my cousin, their mother came to live with them. Everyone has their own bedroom and bath and private space.  There is a suite downstairs with a gigantic screen TV with a Projector. We had that suite last night. After a late breakfast and lots more stories, we headed down to the Skyline Drive for the Shenandoah National Park. It was a beautiful drive part way down the Park until we decided to stop at KOA for the night.   Next day  We arrived at the Luray Caverns and spent most of the day there. We had a very nice visit at Luray caverns, very relaxing. It is an interesting cave, unlike any we have seen. The formations are striking and many stalagmites have come together with the stalactites. It is a very easy walk through the caverns on a paved walkway that is non slippery. They have an antique vehicle museum with all types of vehicles calls from buggies to Rolls Royce’s. They also have a Pioneer replica village set up that has many buildings from the surrounding area that were taken down and completely restored in this village. When we got back to the RV, there was a nice young couple next to us that we struck up a conversation with and ended up talking to them for about an hour. The husband is a pastor at the local Hispanic church and he is also a computer Tech for the IRS for his regular job. His daughter plays the flute and his wife sings and leads the church choir. They are from Puerto Rico and most of the family have come here to be with them. They came here 21 years to go to live 5 years or so and go to school. He was a police officer in Puerto Rico. When we got back to the KOA for the night, a couple we had met our first day stopped to speak to us and we had a drink and talked for an hour or so. They said they were sorry they didn't get to say goodbye to us this morning not knowing we would be back tonight. We didn't know we were going to be back tonight until we got to the caverns and decided we should stay another night to relax. It's lucky that we called as soon as we decided, because the campground is full tonight. We just enjoyed some homemade fudge from a small shop in the Luray Caverns Village.

+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~
The party was in full swing. Allison and Scott in the middle of the dance floor with a Stiles that looked like he was on a sugar high, and Lydia and Malia dancing together beside them. Everyone was gathered together to celebrate the happy couple on their wedding day. Allison and Scott had only been engaged for a few months but couldn't wait till next year.
[Y/N] had just stepped out of the crowd to go to the bar and get a drink. She turned around to face the venue and let out a happy sigh. Everything had been so beautiful, from the reception, to the decorations, to the cake. [Y/N] wasn't a fan of the whole wedding thing. Mainly because she just never had any luck in the love department and the one person she had eyes for was not here.
"What you got there?"
A voice to her right spoke. She glanced down at her drink, "It's a- you know what, I don't know," she chuckled. "Whatever it is it's st-" she glanced to the stranger and was taken by surprise.
"Oh my god, Derek," she quickly set the drink down and embraced the man.
"I thought you weren't gonna make it. They all said you wouldn't," he returned the action and gave a laugh.
"As if I was gonna miss this celebration and reunion."
The gang had all been busy. Stiles was in Virginia,  Quantico to be exact in the FBI. Lydia was off at MIT. Malia took off the second she graduated, apparently she finally got to go to France. Allison and Scott went to school together, got their degrees and somewhere in between got engaged. With Scott being alpha, he couldn't leave the town unprotected. So, Allison being the best that she was stayed behind with him. [Y/N] had stayed in Beacon Hills as well. With her helping run her family's restaurant, she couldn't be happier. As for Derek. He had gone back to New York, needing a new change in scenery. To say it's been a long time since they all were together was an understatement. It had been 3 years. With the distance and busy lives they lived, they still managed to stay in contact and act as if nothing ever changed. She saw the couple almost everyday, with them having to walk past the restaurant to and from work and the occasional dine-ins. Sometimes they went out on their days off together and had a few drinks.
[Y/N] pulled away from him with a grin on her face, "Wow. When did you get here? Have you seen the guys yet?"
"Haven't been here long, just a few minutes, I saw you near by and made my way over. And no I haven't." She blushed at that.
"Well, we'll have to change that. C'mon let's go to them," she gulped down the last of her drink and grabbed his hand to lead him through the crowd.
Wasn't long for the group of friends to notice [Y/N] and the person trailing behind, "DEREK!" They all greeted him with hugs and smiles.
They spent a good while dancing together until they decided to take a break at their nearby table. They all conversated about what they had been doing in the last few years, making jokes and laughing at some crazy story Stiles was telling about his co-worker, Spencer.
After a while, [Y/N] decided to get everyone a few shots and made her way to the bar. As she waited for her order, she began nodding along to the music and mouthing the words.
"Thank you," [Y/N] took the circled tray and turned to walk back to the table, only to almost bump into Scott's mom.
"Shit, sorry Melissa."
"Wow, got enough there?"
[Y/N] laughed and motioned to the table near the front, "I hope so. It's for that crazy lot I call friends."
"Ah, of course," a smile with a small pat on the shoulder from her, [Y/N] excused herself and made way back.
"Alright guys, this round is on me," she said happily as she set the drinks down on the table.
"[Y/N/N], this is already paid for," Scott mentioned.
"Shh, let me have this," she shushed him.
-
Time had flown by. It was nearing the end of the party and people began to leave little by little.
[Y/N] was off to the side at a nearby table talking to a few folks while swaying a bit to the soft songs playing. Her back was towards the others so she didn't notice the glance Derek threw her way with a smile.
The man always had a soft spot for her. He would never admit his feelings towards her to himself. Always thought she didn't feel the same, and was scared of getting close to her. Back then they had a totally different lifestyle. With him trying to figure himself out as to what he wanted to do with his life, all the bad guys they had to face and it just not being a good time to get close to anyone like that. The male just suppressed the feelings. That's why he left for New York. Time away gave him a sense of direction to figuring out what he wanted and who he wanted to be with. Derek realized that he shouldn't let other things stop him from his happiness. He wanted to have a life, build a family and just be surrounded by his friends again. He wanted [Y/N] by his side through it all.
Lydia took a small glance at Derek noticing his gaze was not focused on the conversation going on at the table. She followed his gaze and a smile grew on her face. [Y/N]. Those two. The redhead silently grabbed everyone else's attention and nodded her head to what she was referring to. They all playfully rolled their eyes at them. A fond smile was plastered on the former alpha's face.
Lydia, being the one she was, decided to take the lead. She gently placed a hand on the man's arm.
Derek snapped out of his trance and followed to who the arm led to. He made eye contact with the banshee and then realized the whole table was looking at him.
"What?"
"What do you mean 'what'. You look like a love sick puppy." Stiles spoke.
Derek scoffed, "I do not."
His cousin mimicked the sound, "Yes you do. Why haven't you told her how you feel already?" she questioned.
His eyes grew wide. They knew? That was a dumb question, of course they knew. They knew everything. There was no point in hiding it, the whole group was on to him. He rubbed the back of his neck gently and looked down at his feet. "I don't know. Just haven't I guess."
Lydia took a seat next to him, "You think she doesn't feel the same, but she does," she assured him.
This caught the werewolf's attention. "She does?"
"Yeah dude. We all see the way she looks at you. Heart shaped eyes and all. Same way you look at her," the alpha pointed out.
He glanced back at the girl in time to see her toss her head back in laughter. He smiled.
Suddenly, the familiar tune to Brett Young's 'In Case You Didn't Know' began to play through the speakers.
Allison laughed, "Now if that isn't a sign, I don't know what is," she spoke referring to the song.
Lydia gave his knee a pat, "Go and ask her to dance. It is her favorite song after all."
Derek looked at his friends, all of them giving him a supporting look. He rubbed his clammy hands against his things and took a deep breath. He stood up from his seat and began to make his way to the girl. He could hear the small cheers from his friends as he walked away from them. When he got close, one of her friends made a gesture towards her to look behind her.
Confused, [Y/N] turned only for her to smile at the man in front of her. Derek.
"Hey."
"Hey," his heart was beating rapidly and hard against his chest. He gets the pack were having a laugh at how nervous he is. Now or never. "Would you like to dance?"
Shock with a hint of fear took over her. Dancing. Dancing with a partner was something she couldn't do. Let alone with the man she has had a crush on for years. She'd make a fool of herself.
"I-I can't dance," she said quietly.
He gently took her hand,"It's ok, I'll teach you," and slowly began to lead her away from the table and  to the open floor.
Donnie shot a look of surprise to her friends as they walked past them, only to be met with smiles, a few winks and a thumbs up from Lydia.
Once on the floor, Derek turns towards her and softly places her left hand on top of his right shoulder, places his right hand on her hip and let's his left grab a hold of her right. They were close in proximity and began to sway to the song.
Derek could hear her heart thumping loudly and leaned his head beside hers. "Relax, you'll be fine. Just follow my lead."
She let out a breathy laugh and nodded, "Right, sorry. First time jitters."
After a few moments of letting her get the pace of the dance, he broke the silence.
"You know why I came back?" He spoke near her ear.
"For Allison and Scott's wedding, right?"
"Yeah, but not just for that," he closed his eyes, "It's because I wanted to see you again."
She froze for a second. Me. She thought. He came back for me? What the hell?
"I don't understand. Why?"
The confusion in her voice made him laugh a little. The next verse in the song was just too perfect and Derek sang along to it.
"Baby I'm crazy 'bout ya,
And I would be lying if I said that I could live this life without you.
Even Though, I don't tell you all the time.
You had my heart a long, long time ago. In case you didn't know."
Tears began to well up in her eyes. No, it couldn't be. She thought. This is too good to be true.
"That smooth motherfucker," Malia spoke.
"Gotta admit that was pretty good," Scott chimed in.
The other three looked between the two. Obviously they were eavesdropping on them. For safety reasons of course.
"What? What did he say?"
"Did he tell her?"
Both Allison and Lydia asked their friends.
"He basically confessed by singing to her the last verse that just played," said with a smile.
Stiles whistled softly, "Damn, who knew he had it in him."
"Derek," [Y/N] said softly.
He just gave her hand a small squeeze.
"I've liked you for a while now. Even when we were running around chasing bad guys and solving cases," he began. "But, I wasn't in the right head-space to act upon them. We had so much going on that I didn't think it was the right time to start something I wasn't ready for yet. Besides, I didn't think you liked me then."
She let out a small laugh while wiping a few tears off her face. "You're a werewolf that has super hearing and is like a lie detector, smells emotions and is able to tell what the person is feeling, and you couldn't determine My sense of emotions."
Her comment made him smile, realizing that she too returned his feelings. "Like I said. Wasn't all there," he pulled away to look at her.
The song was nearing its end. Donnie brought both her arms to rest on his shoulder and interlocked her fingers behind his head. She placed her forehead against his and closed her eyes, trying to soak up this lovely moment.
"I suppose not. But I guess, it was a good thing I didn't act upon mine either. Who knows how we would've turned out."
With Derek's hands now at her waist, he softly rubbed circles with his thumbs at her sides, "A few rough bumps here and there but still good." He opened his eyes and placed his thumb and index finger underneath her chin, so she could look back up at him.
"[Y/N/N], I know this is long overdue. But, would you please be mine?"
She looked into his eyes. The eyes she fell in love with back when she first saw them in the open forest. The same eyes that always gave her compassion and strength. The same eyes that are now showing her the same love she has felt towards him in the past few years.
With a soft graze of her lips to his she whispered the answer.
"Yes."
As the last line and note played out. They're lips met.
A noise of loud cheers and applause erupted from the pack and family.
"FINALLY!" Stiles shouted.
Derek smiled against the kiss as [Y/N] laughed lightly.
"Were we that bad," Derek asked, leading their way back to their table hand in hand.
"Yes, it was disgusting," Malia faked gagged.
"Oh shush," [Y/N] smiled as she leaned into Derek's side. He smiled and gave the top of her head a kiss.
Maybe weddings weren't so bad after all.

Can we get a sequel to the big news series about Robin and Virginia trying to plan they're wedding while being parents to a newborn?
I'm gonna have to write some kinda masterlist at this rate lmao. Anyways, here's your domestic fluff.
Big News II: Baby Steps (GB!Roman x Trans!GB!Virgil as Parents)
A piercing wail cut through Robin and Virginia's bedroom, causing an exhausted groan to come from both of them. They were glad to be a family of three, all of them in one piece, but God being a parent sucked sometimes. Especially at night.
Virginia sighed as she sat up. Robin attempted to protest. "No, darling, I can get her. Go back to sleep." Virginia waved her hand dismissively at her, to get her to settle back down herself. "Listen. You did all the work for the first nine months. It's my turn now," she argued. Robin sighed softly, though she wasn't really upset with her. She was even flattered that Virginia cared about her so much. She just hoped that Virginia didn't burn herself out trying to take care of both of them. As well as the coming wedding...in
Robin, who was slowly dozing back to sleep, awoke herself with the sudden reminder that she had a wedding to plan on top of everything. She'd gotten so caught up with taking care of Daisy she'd nearly forgotten. She had so many things still left to discuss and decide.
Virginia soon realised it was actually six in the morning anyways, and decided to just stay awake and get her and Daisy some breakfast, leaving Robin to sleep in peace. And of course, as with everything in Virginia's life as of late, Daisy came first. Though Virginia did not even complain to herself about it. She just grabbed a bottle of milk from the fridge and heated it up. She turned to her daughter who was still squawking for a feed. "It's coming, Princess. It's coming," she tried to reassure her, patting her on the back.
After what must have been hours to poor Daisy, and minutes to her mother (which it actually was), she settled down as the nipple of the bottle entered her mouth, filling it with sweet warm milk. Virginia sighed in contentment as her child was soothed. She could make herself some toast or something after Daisy was fed. She was never a huge eater in the mornings anyways.
She heard footsteps coming from the bedroom, towards the kitchen. "Good morning, my queen," Virginia teasingly greeted her fiancé. Robin playfully cocked a brow at her. "Queen?" Virginia nodded. "Yep, Daisy's the new princess, so you get to be the queen."
"Doesn't that make you a queen too, then? Or perhaps my knight in shining armour?" Virginia seemed to consider this for a moment. "Nope. I'd rather be a witch. They're much cooler than any silly knight." She nodded to the ring on Robin's finger. "I've kidnapped you, and now you're mine forever. No knight can save you now." Robin burst out laughing at that. "Don't worry. I submit willingly." And then they were both laughing, though it was definitely way too early in the morning for it. That's what sleep deprivation does to you.
Then Virginia frowned at her slightly. "But seriously babe, you should be resting. Me and Daisy are fine down here," she insisted, concern trickling into her voice. Her wife had been up late nights and barely getting to sit down due to their daughter, and she understood the need to care for her as her mother obviously, but after her near death scare Virginia really worried about her, like she did about nearly everything.
But Robin shook her head, seemingly in defiance at first. "I know, I just wasn't tired," she responded. "Besides, there are other reasons that aren't Daisy." Virginia leaned in forward slightly, to show that she was listening. "I wanted to talk to you about the wedding. We've gotten a little distracted, and for good reason. But we really should start planning soon."
Virginia smiled somewhat comfortingly at her. "Don't worry Ro, I hear you," she stated. "Luckily, Jan already helped me find a good venue that we should be able to get, through the whole family budget. Everyone's willing to pitch in, especially since they did so similarly to Jan and Becca's wedding. Here, take Daisy so I can show you!" Virginia passed on the newborn to her fiancé, who gratefully took her. She beamed down at her immediately, before looking back to Virginia who now had her phone in hand.
Virginia showed Robin the screen. It was this surprisingly elegant looking place. Almost seeming fit for royalty. Mainly white, with hints of red and gold. Virginia smirked as she saw Robin's eyes practically sparkle. "I knew you would like it. I wanted to bring it up earlier, but someone rudely interrupted us." Virginia looked down at Daisy, who opened her eyes to look at her with her crystal blue ones. "Yes, you," Virginia laughed.
Robin focused her gaze back on Daisy, as Virginia retrieved the phone. But her brain was still focused on the wedding. "We'll have to go dress shopping soon," she brought up.
"I want a black dress," Virginia said, instantly. Robin chuckled. "I thought so," was all she said. "And then stuff like the guest list... I wanted a no kids wedding, but now I realised that if we bring Daisy that'll sound a little, I don't know, hypocritical?"
"No, I don't think so," Virginia argued. Robin didn't seem convinced. "Really?" Virginia shrugged. "Think of it this way. One baby we very, very much know and love, versus a handful of toddlers we do not know and can just barely tolerate by the end of the night. How does that sound now?" Robin sighed in comfortable defeat. "That's a fair argument. Alright, so no kids but ours. That's the rule." Virginia nodded in almost instantaneous agreement.
Virginia sat back in her chair, huffing out a breath of air that moved her bangs. She stared lazily out the window. There were a few quiet moments before she spoke again. "You know what. I can't wait to get this over with, so we can officially be a family." Robin thought of it along with her in solace. "Yeah, me neither."

Historic McFarland House
Tumblr media
Nestled near downtown Martinsburg behind a timeless brick facade lies a hidden gem. Enter our doors, and you will be transported back to a time of refinement and charm.
For over 140 years, the Historic McFarland House has been a cornerstone of taste, tradition and civic pride in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Built by Alexander B. Parks in 1878, the mansion’s elegant legacy lives on in the furnishings, food and festivity created within our venue today.
Parks, a developer and municipal leader, was also an entrepreneur with a passion for fresh produce. As president of the National Fruit Company (better known today as White House®) and later as a West Virginia state senator, Parks was guided by a commitment to local food and farm-fresh ingredients. Parks’ devotion to native foods is alive and well in our kitchen today. Nearly all of the foods prepared here are sourced within 50 miles of Martinsburg.
Parks sold the property before the turn of the century, but subsequent owners preserved the home’s beauty while simultaneously evolving it with the times. Owners William and Jane McFarland operated a catering business from their eponymous home. They infused culinary creativity and a spirit of warmth into the house throughout their ownership. In 1967 and 1968, the home was a highly-anticipated stop along the Shenandoah-Potomac House and Garden Tour. Far from past its prime, the McFarland House was a site for social celebrations throughout the century—and remains so today.
Since purchasing the Historic McFarland House in 2007, Michael McCarty and Donna Cobean have taken its history full circle. They honor Parks’ commitment to local ingredients in the food and atmosphere they cultivate at the house today. In 2011, the Historic McFarland House was featured in the 56th Shenandoah-Potomac House and Garden Tour, just as it was in the 1960s. Taking cues from the past and present, the couple have curated a timeless setting to celebrate special moments both large and small.
