Macron's fiery Sorbonne speech targets summering American Millennials
It’s no coincidence that Emmanuel Macron gave a fiery speech about the threats facing Europe the same week that American Millennials in New York, LA, and Miami began talking about booking their one-way flights to the continent. "There is a risk our Europe could die - we are not equipped to face the risks," Macron said, referring to the dietary allergies, alternative milk needs, and tedious conversations of trust-funded, unemployed young adults who will begin their summer in Paris to attend a museum benefit that spills into a large dinner party with several professional photographers before traveling to Puglia, Comporta, or Ibiza where they will subsist on beautiful tomatoes,’ flat whites, and MDMA.
Europe has struggled with illegal immigration for decades, and there is no more pressing illegal immigration threat than American Millennials who have decided that being unemployed in Europe is less distressing for their parents than being unemployed in Williamsburg. Google searches for ‘how long can I stay in EU without passport’ spiked in late-April among Americans who have not yet bought a Portuguese passport from a guy who used to run a turnkey Burning Man camp who is now running a Golden Visa scheme in Lisbon. “Our Europe today is mortal,” Macron said. “It can die and that depends solely on our choices,” the choices being whether or not to search and detain for ketamine at customs and how to clearly define tipping protocol in restaurants.
Tumblr media
“It used to be enough to spend a couple weeks in Italy in July,” observes Coco, a 34-year-old retired gallery founder who is on the board of several art-related non-profits that she instructed her unpaid interns to start. “But now it gets so hot in Europe in July that everyone is going in June and even like, May.” Coco has several weddings and dinner parties in various coastal destinations in Europe in June, but she has not yet RSVP’d nor has she booked any travel. “I know I’m going to go, but I’ve just been too busy to look at the dates or book anything,” she says, absently picking some kind of beige matter from the left eye of her toy goldendoodle. Macron at one point asserts in his speech that Europe is “too slow and lacks ambition,” referring directly to Coco’s ambivalent European travel plans.
Uncertainty permeates the vibe in Europe right now, not because of a military threat posed by a giant, angry country with cocked nukes driven by a weak-minded Cold War relic, but because every Millennial in New York, Miami and Los Angeles has expressed their intention to occupy Europe without declaring the targets.
“Is very stressful,” says Aldo Melpignano, the proprietor of Borgo Egnazia, a trendy boutique hotel in Puglia that for Europeans costs €120 a night and charges 30something Americans visiting from coastal zipcodes $970. “I see the hashtags on the Instagram, like, I’m coming for your @borgoegnazia,” he says. “Va bene, Allison, when you gonna come for us, and are you gonna come with that stupid capello?” says Aldo while making a pinched-fingers emoji with one hand and pointing to his head with the other. Hotel, coffee shop, organic market, and narcotics purveyors all over Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal have echoed this desire for more resolute planning and fewer hats from the demographic that funds the less productive but more desirable EU countries.
"We must produce more, we must produce faster, and we must produce as Europeans," Macron said, a rallying cry to European DJs to sample only vocals that were recorded in native European languages.
“Europe must show that it is never a vassal of the United States and that it also knows how to talk to all the other regions of the world," Macron said, refuting the irrefutable fact that Europe has become a summer camp for unproductive younger Americans and suggesting that they be immediately deported to Bodrum or Izmir upon landing at CDG, MXP, and LIS.
“This is a betrayal of our values that ultimately leads us to dependency on other counties,” Macron said, making an observation about Europe’s frustration with having to work between May and August in order to show American Millennials how to correctly tap their credit card on puzzling European payment terminals.
“Europe must become capable of defending its interests, with its allies by our side whenever they are willing, and alone if necessary,” said Macron, in defense of French baristas who do not like working with oat milk. Taking a hands-on approach to ensuring the EU’s “ability to ensure our security” Macron and his wife will begin their Summer at a wedding in the Aeolian Islands in early June, float around Sicily or Puglia the following week, head to Bonjuk Bay for an appearance of prominent LA-based DJ, RICHE, and then couch-surf in Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera the rest of the summer.

Epilogue (Final Part)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s hours later and we’re still talking. The DJ arrives around ten and cracks the speakers up to ear-ringing heights so we exit to the lobby and stand by the window as the snow falls and the lights from the ten foot Christmas tree twinkle on the glass.
Tumblr media
“No, no, stop, I can’t take it anymore,” He shrieks in agony as he grabs my arm, “He said that when he was inside you?”
“Yes! I didn’t know what to say back, like, um, thanks pal?”
“‘You’re so Alpha’” He repeats, deadpan, but his shoulders betray him when they start wobbling again, “‘and I’m just a little-”
“Beta boy, yes. Oh Evie, you intimidate me so much, I’ve always wanted to fuck a girl who scared me.”
“I’m going to die because of this story,” He cries, “I refuse to believe that men like this exist, it’s just too much.”
Tumblr media
“There was this other lad too,” I begin, “Not as bad, but he got a nosebleed halfway through and it was dripping all over my face for like fifteen minutes before either of us noticed.”
“No!”
“Yeah, God, I feel bad, I think he was on some blood thinning medication or something but like…” We fall about laughing again, laughing and laughing until I think I’ll start gagging. I remember thinking during that experience that there was only one other person in the world who would find it as hilarious as I did, and as we splutter and cackle now at my retelling I remember how it used to be like this all of the time with us. I think about the time we lost through staying out of touch as he wipes his eyes and stumbles to the side a little bit, from laughing or from drinking a little too much, I’m not sure.
Tumblr media
“Women are not like that,” he says, “I’m sorry for you, but they’re not, even the crazy LA ones don’t put me in situations like that.” He steadies himself a little by bracing his arm on the wall, so close that I could count his eyelashes if I wanted to. “I just don’t get it, do you think they get nervous?”
“Nervous around me? I doubt it. Sure what’s there to be nervous of?”
“It’s a lot of pressure, you know, making love to a beautiful woman for the first time. There’s a lot on the line, the chances of humiliation are high, maybe, I don’t know, maybe that guy just blurted the first weird thing that came into his head-” He breaks off because a high pitched laugh has exploded out of him again, “But it’s a flex to say that you’re so hot that you give men nosebleeds.”
“Oh come on, you’re exaggerating.”
Tumblr media
“No, for real. Don’t you remember how nervous you made me when we were young? I turned into a total idiot around you.”
“Hardly.”
“It’s true. You were like this stunning princess and I was just some guy.”
I scoff, “Some guy?”
“Yeah, and it’s nice to see that some things never change because you’re still so beautiful and I’m still just a random man off the street.”
Tumblr media
“Hmm, c’mon, you’re just schmoozing me,” I say, “Is this the way you all sweet-talk each other in Los Angeles? That’s not going to work. Irish girls are too humble to accept that.”
“Have I made you self-conscious?”
“No, I’m just wondering if you’re actually trying to flirt with me now or if you’re just trying to make me feel better about the fact that I’m thirty and my body is slowly ageing and rotting away.”
“Don’t say that, you look better than ever.”
I narrow my eyes, “I’m so curious about your game.”
“What do you mean?”
Tumblr media
“Yeah, how you approach women, how you flirt with them now. What’s your technique? Is it intense flattery?”
He scoffs, “Oh, no, come on, I don’t have a technique, I don’t think about it like that.”
“No?”
“What do you think I am? Some kind of weirdo pick-up artist? No. I… I improvise, it depends on so much, like, where I am, who she is, what I feel like I’m hoping to get from the situation…”
“Okay okay, right. Well what if you were at an event with friends. Say, a wedding…”
He smirks at me.
Tumblr media
“…and you see a woman standing on her own by the bar, and you know, she’s pretty mysterious in quite a sexy way, and you’re looking at her and thinking, hmm, yeah, maybe I’d like a piece of that-”
“You think that’s my inner monologue?” He interrupts, “That I think like that?”
“No, shh- shut up for a second, in this scenario you do. And you’re going to go over and talk to her, and you see the perfect opportunity to do it, and the lights from the dancefloor are shining in her hair, and oh, she looks so lonely over there, someone should go and keep her company…’
Tumblr media
“I’d say hi, you’re very pretty, can I kiss you please?”
“Really?”
“Yeah t-”
Tumblr media
He doesn’t finish because I have grabbed him by the lapels and pressed my lips against his. Maybe it’s for the joke, or because I’m slightly drunk, or maybe it’s to see if it still feels the way that it used to, I don’t know. I don’t really think about it, it’s just happening.
Tumblr media
“Oh look, it worked!” I say as we pull away, and I don’t really have a chance to try and read his face to see what he thinks about it because he takes a step towards me and kisses me again, though differently to how I kissed him, gentler, slower, with my head cradled in his hands, which is inconvenient because he makes my insides start flip flopping around. I draw back laughing, “What are you at?”
Tumblr media
“We’re kissing now,” he confirms, then frowns, “I think. Aren’t we kissing? Or is this a hallucination?”
“Jude…”
“Don’t you want us to be kissing?”
“Well it’s not that, it’s-”
“Ah, you think it’s dangerous to be kissing.”
“If you keep saying ‘kissing’ it’s going to lose all meaning.”
Tumblr media
“What did we call it when we were teenagers? Shiftin’ right? Will you shift me, Evie?”
“Oh my God,” I hold my hand up to his face, “it is illegal for you to put on an accent and say that. I hate that you can still do that.”
“My Irish voice?” he says in his Irish voice.
“Please get that away from me!”
“Sorry about that,” he settles back into his American drawl, and I jerk with surprise as I feel the tips of his fingers graze my waist, “Also, I’m sorry that I kissed you, I thought we were, you know, doing that now.”
Tumblr media
“It was a joke… And maybe just a little bit so that I could see if it still felt the same as it used to.”
His eyes tour my face, “Did it?”
“Did it for you?”
The corners of his mouth tick up, “I don’t know, it’s been a long time since I’ve kissed you, and honestly I didn’t get a decent sample, mind if I try it again?”
“Aha! I’ve figured out your game,” I declare, “You put on that silly act you’ve always put on, don’t you?”
He hooks his finger into the strap of my dress before it drops off my shoulder, “Hm? What act is that?”
“Your favourite one. ‘Oh, little old me? I’m so innocent, why I’ve never even held hands before, and I certainly haven’t fucked half of Dublin city. I don’t even know what sex is.’”
Tumblr media
He gasps with delight and stares right into my face, “You’re still obsessed!” He cries, “and you haven’t stopped wondering about me!”
“About what, exactly?”
“My body count! After all these years it still tortures you. You’re so shallow…”
“Oh please, I couldn’t care less.”
“Evie,” He says mock-scoldingly, really drawing out the syllables, “I can’t believe it. I told you back then that it didn’t matter, that I didn’t have to tell you if I didn’t want to, but you’ve never let it go to this day. Wow. Wow.”
Tumblr media
“I don’t even want to know,” I sniff, “It’s meaningless information to me now.”
“Well since you don’t care and it has no power over you anymore, maybe you finally ought to know…” He glances quickly around the empty lobby before his eyes slide back to mine and he whispers, “that you were the seventh.”
“The seventh?”
“Is that a good-surprise or bad-surprise?”
“Well I thought it’d be so many more.”
He shrugs, “No, I mean there was the first girl in the playground, then a girl who worked in the tennis club at the beach, a girl from my maths class at school, Michelle, someone from my university, Astrid, and then you-” He pauses, “Wait, there was another one. You were eighth. Seventh and a half.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“And a half? Who did you forget? A centaur?”
He shakes his head, “There was an awkward foursome situation in Berlin once. It’s a long story, really stupid. I’ll tell you about it later.”
“Well I’ve never been more curious.”
“I’m a source of a lot of interesting info.”
“Like your current body count?” I tease.
“Oh, now I’m ran-through.”
“Tell me more about your life.”
“We just don’t have the time tonight.”
“What, not now?” I protest, “Not in this perfectly perfect situation when we’re both a little drunk and potentially snowed in for days, when there’s nothing to do but talk to each other?”
“No, see you’ve changed the subject, you’ve got me messed up. I…” He laughs tipsily and sways a little bit closer to me, through accident or otherwise I’m not sure, “…I was thinking about how much I might like to kiss you for a little longer this time, just to see if you still give me that same crazy feeling that I used to get with you, and you distracted me.”
Tumblr media
I act like it’s a burden to me and slump back against the wall, “Fine, go ahead.”
“Oh jeez, no need to beg me, you know it’s off putting to be so eager?”
“Please?”
He comes in close and pecks my lips gently and even that makes my knees start to wobble. “No, come on, give me a proper kiss, that’s the only way we’ll know.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Still so demanding,” He tilts my chin towards him and angles his mouth over mine while his hands skim up my back and hold my body flush to his.  As he strokes his lips over mine I can’t help but curse inwardly because of course this is happening to me, of course it feels like everything I’ve been searching for in the years between then and now, everything I couldn’t find in other people. These are the kinds of kisses that ruined me for other men for years to follow, and he’s ruining me now.
He glides his tongue along my lower lip and builds this kiss to the kind of intensity that shouldn’t be displayed in a public lobby, but he doesn’t care so neither do I. He kisses me until I’m soft and formless in his arms, until I forget the years in between then and now, and then he finally slows it, brushing his lips against mine and then gently drawing away and I find myself following his mouth in search of more, “The same?” He murmurs with his forehead against mine, “Or terrible?”
Tumblr media
His hand cradles the back of my head as I sigh and bury my face in his shoulder, “What are we going to do, Jude?”
“You’re going to have to try not to be awkward about it because we might be snowed in for several days.” He says, “If you’ve decided I’m crusty and repulsive, you’re going to have to hide it from me to spare my ego. Either that or I’ll camp out in my room out of humiliation and get my sister to bring my meals to me until I can get the earliest flight to LAX.”
Tumblr media
I pause, “so you’re sharing with your sister?”
“Yeah we booked late, so a twin room was all they had left. And she snores like hell.”
“Well that’s a pity because I booked months ago, and got a huge room all to myself. A four poster bed and a big gorgeous bath.”
“Are you bringing that up to make me jealous or is that an invitation?”
I scoff, “an invitation to what, exactly?”
Tumblr media
“Come up and fuck you in the bath or something, I don’t know. Why would you bring the bath into it?”
“That’d be fairly shameless of me, wouldn’t it, if that’s what I was alluding to.”
“Is that the kind of woman you’ve become? The kind that invites strange men into her bath?”
“God no, I’d never directly ask that, that’d be very slutty.”
He brushes his fingers gently along the side of my neck, which is unfair because he knows how much I like that, and as I feel that touch all the way down to my toes he gives me a sly little smile and draws back to look at me, “I don’t know, you’ve really talked up this bath and you’ve got me curious. Will you show it to me?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You’ve always been so cheeky, did you know that? You ask audacious things of people.”
“Me? Never. That’s just not me, you must be thinking of somebody else. Of one of your other ex-boyfriends.” He grins and saunters casually toward the stairs, glancing over his shoulder at me as he goes, “I actually just remembered that I spilled something on my suit.”
“Did you.”
“Mm, I’m a total mess, I might be drunker than I look. I think I better go and take it off.”
“Doesn’t suit you anyway. You were always better in shorts.”
Tumblr media
He pauses for a moment and regards me with one raised eyebrow, a question, and I don’t care that I’m predictable to him, that he already knows I will push myself away from the wall and catch up to him, “Actually you have the right idea, my dress is uncomfortable. I want to change out of it, only I’m not sure I can manage the zip on my own.”
“Oh, I can help you with that,” he says, “Or at least I can try, you know, but fair warning I haven’t ever undressed a woman before.”
Tumblr media
“I’m sure you’ll figure it out,” I smile, as I wind my fingers through his.

The Surprising Reason John Larroquette Took His Career-Defining Role on 'Night Court'
The comedy ninja reveals all this week's 'Parade' cover story.
MARA REINSTEIN
UPDATED:JAN 19, 2023
Tumblr media
Get in a car and drive about 30 miles north of Portland, Oregon, into southwest Washington. That’s where you’ll find actor John Larroquette.
He and his wife, Elizabeth, have lived on a piece of rural property for about five years. He collects books and likes to narrate plays in his home recording studio. Sometimes the couple head into the city to try new restaurants and go to the theater and concerts. “It’s really beautiful,” he says. “And at my age, it’s time to slow down and be out somewhere.”
In fact, Larroquette is so fond of his far-from-Hollywood lifestyle that not too long ago, he considered himself retired from the business with a fulfilling career and a room full of trophies to show for it. Never did he think he’d return to grueling TV work, let alone reprise the very role that made him a household name.
Guess what happened next?
Yup, Larroquette, 75, is suiting back up as wise-cracking, endearingly smarmy lawyer Dan Fielding in a new version of the irreverent sitcom Night Court (premiering Jan. 17 on NBC). Set decades after the 1984-92 original, it still chronicles the colorful cast of characters passing through the New York City after-hours courtroom. But now, the Honorable Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch), the daughter of Judge Harry T. Stone (Harry Anderson), bangs the gavel.
Fielding starts the series as a process server, though not for long. “As an actor, I thought it would be an interesting idea to revisit a character 35 years later in his life and see what happened to him,” Larroquette says. “I can’t do the physical comedy and jump over chairs anymore, so my conversations with the producers were about how to find the funny.”
Call it the latest unexpected turn for a seasoned star who began his professional journey as a DJ for “underground” radio in the 1960s, moved from his native New Orleans to Los Angeles to jumpstart his career, once took a gig in exchange for marijuana, played a Klingon in the third Star Trek movie and completed rehab to kick his heavy drinking—all before his very first audition for Night Court in 1983. After the sitcom’s last episode, he won his fifth Emmy (for the drama The Practice) and a 2011 Tony for the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He and Elizabeth, wed for 47 years, have three grown children.
“I honestly wish I had a tape recorder going at all times because he’s led such an interesting life and has such wonderful stories,” marvels Rauch, his co-star and a Night Court executive producer. “He’s super-quick, funny and definitely tells it like it is.”
Exhibit A? His interview with Parade, in which he discusses life and death, and everything in between.
Did you sign on to the series right away or was it a tough sell?
When Melissa [Rauch] presented the idea to me, I immediately said, “No thank you.” I didn’t like the idea of being compared to my 35-year-old, younger self. These conversations went on for a year. Then, one day, she told me that she wanted to be on-camera as well, so I decided to try and do it. We ended up pitching the show together, and it got picked up. You know, in New Orleans, there’s a French word called “lagniappe,” which means “a little bonus.” That’s what I consider myself. She’s the heart of the show.
Sadly, a few of your co-stars—including Harry Anderson and Markie Post—have died in recent years. What was it like being on the set without them?
Very emotional. Harry passed away in 2018, but it’s still a tender spot in my heart because he and I were together for a long time even outside of work. Markie and I were very close, and we had exchanged a few emails about the show before she died [in 2021]. She was a big cheerleader for it. And Charlie [Robinson, who played the clerk “Mac”] died when we were shooting the pilot last year. I saw him a lot because we both love the theater. Being on the set—I don’t say this glibly—but it was like seeing dead people. I’d always remember how I had this bizarre and completely sincere family for nine years.
Going back to the 1980s, why did you originally take the Dan Fielding role?
It was a paycheck. This was 1983, and I was still a journeyman actor going from job to job. I was a regular on a series in the ‘70s [Baa Baa Black Sheep], but then I took a few years off to do some extremely heavy drinking. After I got sober and realized I wasn’t going to die, I thought, “What am I going to do?” I had been in a pretty big [1981] movie called Stripes with Bill Murray. I read for Ted Danson’s role in Cheers.
Wait, how far did you get in the Sam Malone casting process?
Oh, I just walked in and did a cold reading along with every other 32-year-old actor at the time. But then I auditioned for the judge in Night Court. The producers asked me to read for this other role of Dan Fielding and I said, “Sure.” Even if I hated the role, I would have taken it because I needed to make money to help pay the rent and support my family and be a responsible member of society. It was luck that I really liked it. Then I got lucky again when NBC picked up the show as a mid-season replacement.
During the height of the show’s popularity, you earned four consecutive Emmys for your performance. That must have felt beyond validating.
Obviously, being acknowledged by your contemporaries was an incredible honor. I don’t say that blithely. It was a remarkable, remarkable feeling. And I was up against some formidable talent—mainly all those guys from Cheers.
Why do you think the character was and is so appealing?
I think because he allowed the audience to know that he wasn’t a bad guy. He was more like a feckless buffoon. He also really wanted to be loved. As a matter of fact, in our pitch, we screened an old scene of Fielding in a hospital bed telling Harry, “I don’t have a life; I have a lifestyle. Nobody has ever said, ‘I love you.’” So when we find Fielding again, he’s loved and lost. And Harry’s daughter forces him out of his cave. It’s a real full-circle moment.
Let’s go back to your own start. Did you have any music skills coming out of New Orleans?
Well, I started playing clarinet in third grade, then I moved to the saxophone in the 1960s. But I euphemistically say that I could talk better than I could blow. So, I took that sax out of my mouth and became a DJ and started using my voice as much as I could. I’ve always loved the analog aspect of audio. I still have some reel-to-reel tape recordings and old microphones.
Is that how you ended up narrating the opening prologue for [the 1974 horror classic] The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
No, no, that wasn’t through any kind of past work. In the summer of ‘69, I was working as a bartender at a small Colorado resort in a little town called Grand Lake because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. [Director] Tobe Hooper happened to be in town and we became friendly. Flash forward four years, and I found myself in L.A. collecting unemployment checks and trying to decide if I wanted to be an actor. Tobe heard I was in town and asked for an hour of my time to narrate something for this movie he just did. I said, “Fine!” It was a favor.
Per the Internet, he gave you a joint in lieu of payment. True?
Totally true. He gave me some marijuana or a matchbox or whatever you called it in those days. I walked out of the studio and patted him on his back side and said, “Good luck to you!” Now, I have also narrated the consequential films and did get paid. You do something for free in the 1970s and get a little money in the 90s. I’m not a big horror movie fan, so I’ve never seen it. But it’s certainly the one credit that’s stuck strongly to my resume.
But you’ve appeared on the big screen plenty of times. Did you have movie-star aspirations following all your TV success?
The movies I’ve done are mostly forgettable. Blind Date [from 1987] is an exception, but that’s because of Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger. And Blake Edwards directed it. It was funny. But my face is not made for a really big screen. It’s a broad, clown-like face. It’s good for a TV two-shot. And you ride the horse in the direction that it’s going and television was always right there and offering me stuff, so I kept doing that.
You also performed in a musical for the first time in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2010. How was that change of pace?
I was hesitant to do it because I had never sung and danced on stage. I was convinced I was going to be fired in the first two or three weeks. I’d keep going in my head, “five, six, seven, eight!” just trying to get the steps down. But I loved the lifestyle of being a stage actor in New York. I loved working with Daniel Radcliffe, and we became fast friends. It got to a point where I couldn’t wait to get to the theater and try it again that night. If you’re given the opportunity to do something that may be a stretch, I think it’s important to try and see if you can pull it off.
Can you talk a bit about your personal life? You seem a little reclusive.
Reclusive isn’t accurate, but I’m definitely an introvert. Elizabeth and I met doing the play Enter Laughing and got married in 1975. She puts up with me, and you can’t ask for much more than that. Our kids are grown. My daughter Lisa is a graphic designer and my son Jonathan has had a podcast for the past 17 years called Uhh Yeah Dude. And my youngest son, Ben, is a musician who graduated from the Berklee School of Music. He actually composed the new theme music for Night Court. They’re all lovely, and I love them dearly.
That’s quite a professional and personal success story, no?
You know, considering where I’m from and the kind of culture I grew up in, yes. I’ve been very successful in my chosen field. And I’m grateful for having done that because there were times when I thought I would not live, much less have a career. It’s nothing to be taken for granted. But I’m very old now. Three quarters of a century. I’m sort of playing with house money from now on, regardless of what happens.
Sorry, but 75 isn’t very old!
Yes, it’s old. It’s old. Please. It’s old. There are certainly people who live longer, but I can go down the list of wonderful friends and coworkers who are now deceased. One being Kirstie Alley, my costar in [the 1990 comedy] Madhouse, who was younger than I am. She was a lovely person, and so funny. There are only a few more exits on the freeway and you’ve got to choose one. But I’m not afraid of the hereafter and I don’t bemoan it. It’s been an interesting ride, and all rides eventually end.
Do you have any sort of words to live by?
As corny as it sounds, take things one day at a time. You know, I learned when I stopped drinking at age 32 that all you have is right now. Use the present in your life as much as you can.

-----
My thoughts (please feel free to ignore):
I'm sure someone in the fandom has already posted this interview John did last year with Parade magazine when the new Night Court premiered. But I can say that it's new to me, so I'm sharing it in case it's new to someone else too.
I apologize for the highlighted purple sections above. That's just me marking the parts of the interview that resonated with me the most.
I don't know about anyone else, but some parts of his answers to the questions made me feel kind of sad. Partially because he's clearly experiencing grief at the loss of his friends. And partially because John himself may not be with us for much longer (although I hope I'm wrong and he beats Betty White to 100).
But I was talking to my mother about some of his answers, and she said that as someone who has reached an age milestone herself, she understands his perspective. And I guess I do too.
It's important to remember that in any other profession, John would likely be retired by now. So we should really be grateful for any roles he takes or public appearances he makes, and hope that his days ahead are filled with the calm, joy and laughter that he so rightly deserves.

he had been planning this for years. not like . . . actively planning it, but he had known years ago that he wanted to marry nancy wheeler. back when they were both too young to do anything about. back when he was too stupid to realize what had slipped through his fingers. it had taken losing nancy to realize he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and somehow down the line, he had earned a second chance he was cherishing every day since.
he had talked to her parents about the proposal at their last family dinner when nancy excused herself to the bathroom, and they responded with glowing approval. ted had assured him he was already part of the family, and karen was in near tears with excitement. but they played along the rest of the evening as if the conversation hadn't happened in order to leave nancy nonethewiser.
he, of course, knew he would overthink buying the ring, so he had invited robin, eddie, and chrissy along to shop for it while nancy was at work. he didn't really need their suggestions at the end of it more than their affirmation that the one he had picked out - a classic solitaire diamond on a yellow gold band. he knew she would want something simple and timeless rather than encrusted in little diamonds that might fall out of their setting or get dirty easily. this ring she could accessorize with anything, chrissy had pointed out before robin agreed that she could add a flashier wedding band if she wished.
the when was the next thing that was making him a nervous wreck. he didn't think she'd want a spectacle, but she deserved something special. something memorable. mike was visiting them in los angeles for a week out of the summer, so he planned for something along those lines. eddie and chrissy had just bought a house together in malibu with both of their earnings, so the setting was in place at a summertime barbecue with their closest friends. robin, clarissa, jerry, annie, and mike were all in tow as well. they swam, steve and jerry manned the grill, and chrissy made cute little fruity cocktails for everyone. it was turning out to be a great night.
as the sun set and everyone was settling for dinner, steve's nerves were brewing, but he knew this was the perfect time. the sun was setting and the solar fairy lights were illuminating the backyard pool area. so, he gently led nancy outside and took a deep breath, one hand holding hers and stroking the back with his thumb while the other fidgeted with the ring box in the pocket of his shorts.
"we have been through . . . so much together, nancy, but i've known one thing for sure for a really long time," he began, "when i met you, i was worn out and jaded from trying on people to love . . . but you fit so well . . . and it took a thump on the end to realize what i had right in front of me . . . and that i wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. that i didn't just want a beginning with you, so . . . "
he took a deep breath and lowered himself to a knee, his hand ( which he hoped wasn't as visibly shaking as it felt ) presenting the ring box and letting go of hers to open it. "will you be my beginning, middle, and end?" he asked, a hopeful grin tugging at his lips. "will you marry me, nance?"

Zoe Bryce's Bio
Tumblr media
" Other things may change us, but we start and end with family. "
Tumblr media
Zoe Bryce was adopted at a very young age. Her biological parents weren’t exactly what you would call a devoted couple, at least on her father’s end. Through school, she always felt like an outcast, the oddball looking in. At the age of 18, she attended a party that got out of hand. Her first transformation happened that night when she returned home. Luckily Zoe managed to get out of the house before hurting anyone she cared about. Later that night when she returned her adoptive parents called her a monster and pretty much disowned her. She was forced out of the house and faced with being on her own for several years.
That’s when she found Santa Carla and made it her home. Little did she know what was in store for her in this place. After a few months, she learned that she had a sister named Marie. Zoe was drawn to her from the start – it was like their wolf genes had pulled them together. It was from that point Zoe learned that her sister was constantly being tormented and even sometimes tortured by a woman and her mate. Their names were Sonya Alexander and DJ X. Zoey was desperate to help her sister and that soon made herself a target. Marie was forced to fake her death and flee for a time from Santa Carla. Zoe gave the impression that she was heartbroken and lost without her sister and soon left Santa Carla as well. She didn’t go far, just far enough to be out of Sonya and X’s radar.
She found herself a little place to stay, close enough to keep in contact with her sister. As hard as it was for them to stay apart it was for the best at the time. One day while taking a walk near her place she bumped into a man named Colin Bryce. The more time they spent together the more their relationship started to bloom. Soon Zoe spilled everything that had happened to her and her sister to Colin since he was a hunter, he offered to help in any way that he could. A few months passed and somehow Sonya had located her and come to attack. They were taken off guard but somehow Colin managed to rip Sonya’s heart out. Colin didn’t destroy her heart, instead, he placed it in a chest. This was when Colin and the wolves returned to Santa Carla to deliver Sonya’s heart back to her mate and give fair warning, he would be next if any of them were touched again.
That was a mistake because no one knew returning Sonya’s heart to her chest would make her body mend and repair itself. When the vampire goddess woke, she swore revenge on all of them and that’s when things really went to hell in a handbag. This went on for a few years until something began to change about Sonya. Suddenly she wasn’t as violent with them as she once was and even started to act like she was having some remorse over her actions. Soon thereafter Sonya disappeared after everyone had learned that she and her mate had parted ways. Things started getting better.
It was about a year later when Colin and Zoe got married and soon after their daughter Tatum was born. Having a family of their own made them want to leave Santa Carla for good – more so knowing that with their daughter being a hybrid there was a good chance of her becoming someone’s next target. They moved away from Santa Carla and relocated to Los Angeles, California until now.
As of December 2021: Zoe's encounters with The Rose Institute have made her more determined than ever to protect her family by any means necessary. Still, she is beyond thrilled when she learns that she and Colin will become grandparents upon learning that their daughter is pregnant with twins. She is even more than happy to help Leon earn enough money for an engagement ring and wedding planning. Being a grandparent hasn't stopped her from wanting to be on the front lines with Colin when an old hunter partner of his emerges and resurfaces memories of the past.
