Discrepancy #52
Dokja blames the constellations in the webtoon.
In the novel, Dokja says that Bihyung can’t kill him because he’s having too much fun.
Tumblr media
[ORV Novel, Chapter 12]
In the webtoon, he says it’s because the constellations are having too much fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ORV Webtoon, Episode 13]
This creates an interesting discrepancy.
To webtoon only readers (aka me before I started this blog), it’s assumed that Dokja is basically the star of Bihyung’s stream. And we’re not too wrong, he is kinda the star of the show. But these lines in the webtoon make it seem like Bihyung would kill Dokja if he could, but because the constellations want him to stay, he won’t. It’s all about the constellations. Especially in the next few panels:
Tumblr media
[ORV Webtoon, Episode 13]
But in the novel, it changes the context. This line makes sense in the webtoon, but it makes even more sense in the novel.
If, like it’s stated in the novel, that Bihyung refuses to kill Dokja because Bihyung is having fun, not because of the constellations, it makes more sense why he’s not having fun streaming.
In the novel, it’s a combination of Bihyung is bored and the constellations are demanding, which adds more to Bihyung’s character. Remember, we are introduced to Bihyung as this omnipresent character. We don’t think of him as someone with actual feelings, we don’t tend to for characters portrayed as the villain or are inhuman. But the context that’s added in the novel about how Bihyung is having fun almost humanizes him in a way.
It’s no longer about him just being cruel because that’s his job, it’s now about him being cruel for sport. It’s the same concept of running the genocide route in Undertale. Theres no moral reason to other than curiosity and boredom. That’s Bihyung. And that’s a side to Bihyung that the webtoon is missing out on.
It’s just one difference, and yet it changes how Bihyung is perceived.

I wrote this about a year or two ago and just realized I never posted it here.
Major spoilers if you haven't read the ORV webnovel obviously.
This took me 2 whole months of nonstop work to finish and is my pride and joy. It's not exactly fanart or fanfiction but I still believe it will be an enjoyable read for anyone who's read the novel.
Here's a small spoiler free expert:
In its entirety ORV is a story about sacrifice, found family, and well, stories. Every major character in ORV, even the ones that weren't touched much on in this essay like Lee Gilyoung or Shin Yoosung, sacrifice something, or many things, for either the sake of the world or just their family. Many times the people around Kim Dokja will attempt to sacrifice themselves before he has a chance, because the scenarios almost always require a sacrifice to defeat them. Kim Dokja knew this and decided to make sure he was the sacrifice every time, and it's only once Kim Dokja is gone that the other characters start to make the big sacrifices themselves. While sacrifice is one of the main themes, the moral is not ‘sacrifices are necessary for a happy life/world.’ It’s actually the opposite: ‘the sacrifice of something loved can never bring the happiness of the people it was sacrificed for.’ Kim Dokja’s family is never happy to be alive, or happy they completed the scenario, after Kim Dokja sacrifices himself for them, the only emotions they feel after are always negative. When sacrifices are made it may seem selfless or necessary to others, but it is always a truly selfish act in the end.

uhh so..i started reading the book hsy talks about (barthes' mourning diary) and i'm going insane. it's a collection of notes the author started to write the day after his mother died. in short, it's a book about processing grief through writing. and... is this not what hsy have been doing during the years kdj has been in coma
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm not even halfway through the book so i'm sure i'm gonna find even more parallels but- ugh. orv man. unbelievable. how can every single tiny thing in orv be crafted with so much care and love. how am i supposed to get over it

Every time I get to Jeju Island and the Japanese S gate in Solo Leveling I want to strangle Jinwoo. He’s like, hm, well, I’d rather take my time and really think about whether I want to handle these problems that are killing hundreds if not thousands of people every hour. The real problem though is that his lollygagging isn’t sufficiently linked to the parts of his personality and trauma that might cause him to act like that.
The link is there, because he thinks to himself that he’s being pressured to fix these situations and he doesn’t like that, and the whole taking responsibility and being the only one who can solve everyone’s problems thing is exactly how he ended up dying in the Cartenon Temple in the first place, which is where like 90% of his trauma is from. But that link is so easy to miss that every time I get to the places I mentioned, I start shaking my device angrily and have to take a break until I remember to deconstruct it again.
I guess I just wish that the narrative either made it more obvious, or went harder on making the reader question Jinwoo, because as it is it just feels like the author being lazy with his characterization if you’re not the kind of reader that’s constantly digging for deeper meaning. And since Solo Leveling is primarily an OP power fantasy, that’s not the way most readers engage with it in my experience -_-

I should pull up the panels, but I've been thinking about Studd and Lizel's relationship. Specifically Lizel->Studd
See, I've ranted about Studd's feelings for Lizel before. Lizel is the first person to show Studd the affection he so desperately needed and Studd latched on like a lost puppy.
But Lizel. Lizel didn't even mean anything by it! He developed a habit of praising people by patting their head from his time as His Majesty's tutor. He does it to other people, too, like Aign and Eleven. Eleven is very touchy-feely, but Aign isn't so interested in being treated like a kid, so it only happens once. Studd... loves it. SOMEONE PLEASE SHOW THIS BOY SOME BASIC AFFECTION oh wait Lizel is.
And I think, beyond the fact that Studd is a more than competent guild employee (there's only so much Lizel needs from a guild employee--getting to skip any waiting time is nice, but it's not like he's in a hurry), Lizel likes Studd simply because Studd likes him.
Lizel is highly attuned to people's emotions and desires. It's a necessary skill for nobles, and Lizel happens to be extremely good at it. But as you would expect from such a high-ranking noble, there are surely many people who want Lizel not for himself but for his position. A duke, the prince's tutor, the king's right hand man.
Lizel doesn't particularly hide who he is. He inhabits those roles with utmost comfort and skill, but in the end he is human and those positions close him off from many relationships. He cannot show undue affection, he cannot speak freely even in front of the people he loves, he must always remember the image he presents, and that image must be suitably trustworthy: strong enough to lead and protect, kind enough to take care of his citizens, wise enough to handle the business and politics of it all. Everyone is above or below him, and not many are above.
And Studd, somehow, recognizes some part of this. He saw in Lizel something he doesn't see from many people, something Gil also found: a complete lack of fear. It was more than that, but that in itself set the tone for their relationship. Lizel did not run away, but looked at them. I don't mean to say that he ignored or didn't see their strength, quite the opposite. But Lizel does not live in a world where physical strength trumps all. He comes from a world where physical strength is a tool. The man behind the strength matters--are they ally, enemy, are they loyal, do they know what to do with their strength?
Lizel looked at them and Saw them. The power. The loneliness. And he sank his hooks into them. Here are men of power who have no ulterior motives. Men who might recognize Lizel's own nobility of manner, but are not bound by any political power since Lizel has none in this world. They choose Lizel for himself. They choose the man who chose them, who offered a connection that few others were willing to even attempt.
"I want to be with you."
Studd explains as much to Eleven. While Eleven is trying to figure out how to get Lizel to let him into his party, he asks Studd for advice. Gil is no use, Gil doesn't know how to put things into words, 100% works on instinct and isn't used to talking to people. Eleven does try Judge first, but Judge is too scared of Eleven to talk, and so Judge pushes the problem onto Lizel's one other contact who is also Judge's own friend: Studd. Judge knows Studd better than anyone else. It's not just a get out of jail (Eleven's attention) card, it's genuine advice (because Judge is an honest businessman).
If you want Lizel to like you... be innocent. Desire his presence, nothing more and nothing less.

what i think each member of kimcom would post about if they were on tumblr:
kim dokja: incredibly obvious. he runs the single dedicated twsa fan blog in existence, which is interspersed with his commentary on other webnovels he's read and his ongoing feud with the sssss infinite regressor official tumblr
han sooyoung: has a media team which technically run the sssss infinite regressor official tumblr but logs into it occasionally to answer hate mail from that one guy. otherwise considers herself too cool for tumblr
yoo joonghyuk: wrong type of chronically online for tumblr but i could see him having a cooking blog or alternatively a blog thats an extension of his gaming career
yoo sangah: literature blog with analysis and aesthetic quotes she mostly reblogs from others, with some feminist theory that always seems to pop up right after a conversation with han myungoh
shin yoosoung: cute pictures of animals on her main with a dedicated demon king of salvation fan side blog
lee gilyoung: cool photos of bugs with terrifying bug facts on his man and what he proclaims is an even more dedicated demon king of salvation fan side blog
lee jihye: i feel like she would be really into the fandom side of tumblr, either with jdj shipping or with a wlw ship that reminds her of herself + na bori
lee hyunsung: no real theme, literally only reblogs other peoples stuff from blogs he thinks are cool (and of course everything from the other members of kimcom :) )
jung heewon: infinitely too cool for tumblr i fear
han myungoh: shitty porn blog that gets deleted and replaced with a mommy blog when he has his daughter
gong pildu: landlords rights activist blog
jang hayoung: yet another demon king of salvation fan blog. i also think she would treat her main as her diary and talk about every little thing. she has so many mutuals and is always doing ask games with them :)

{ This post is just me babbling about my blorbo. It is not meant to be a well written analysis, and these are my own interpretations. }
I must say to everyone that I am hopelessly in love with the character Baek Saheon, from hit webnovel 'Even if you fall into a ghost story, you still have to go work' by my goat Baek Deoksoo (aka. DS. Back). He is just so... Saheon's not the typical character I like, I like the kind types. I like the melancholic types that think too much.
Contains spoilers for the novel below.
Saheon? He doesn't think much besides things that relate to his survivability, he's selfish, pretends to be nice and easily shoves someone under the bus to save himself. But I think it's so interesting how Viper, who Baek Saheon 'was' in the Darkness wiki, and how he deviates so much from the other him. Saheon's mask is a goat which is associated with the devil, and he's related to a criminal, yet he's not particularly 'evil in this world. Yes, he has a strong sense of survival and is selfish to reiterate, but he's no different from the average Daydream employee.
I do not think he's uniquely 'evil' as some might think, and let me reiterate, Baek Saheon in this world deviates from the older experienced one. The one that didn't have Kim Soleum to help him. There are a few things that define Viper's (aka. Doksah) character: detachment, arrogance and efficiency.
Let's begin with Weclome to the Abyss Transportation Corporation. Had Soleum not been there to show Saheon the lens case, there were other options besides attacking. Doksah would have been emboldened to continue, thinking that his methods are most effective, especially as he's originally the top recruit of the batch (reminder that in the current world, Saheon ranked second). From the very first darkness, Saheon's character drastically changes as he's shown humility and instilled fear from Soleum's threats. It's really funny how he becomes like a puppy with its tail between its legs, however it drives me insane when I think about the next point.
In And Then There Was One(mountain lodge), we find two important things about Saheon: 1. He inherited the cassette tape from a family member 2. The family member is a wanted criminal by the government. It's important to note the family member told him if he "ever wanted to reverse a dire situation", use the cassette tape. I want to highlight that Saheon's relative lied to him and gave a contaminated item, that suspiciously associates with a darkness that forces one person to be the sole survivor. And a murderer. Personally, I think that this is when the wiki Saheon really became Viper. It's the darkness we know for sure so far, that Viper has killed people. He survived that darkness, so that must mean throwing people under the bus is the most effective course of action, right?
However going back to what the relative said, it meant that the relative knew Saheon would be in perilous situations. Perhaps, even purposely giving it to him and forcing him to kill. Which begs the question, what kind of upbringing and family does Saheon have? While Baek Saheon is the quintessential Daydream employee lacking morals and is goal driven, his initial reaction to a missing eye in the abyss transportation... was to attack someone else's eye. Juxtaposed to more 'normal' people like Go Youngeun and Jang Heo-un, it emphasises how atypical it is for person's first instinct to attack others in order to survive. In chapter 76 Saheon clearly states himself that, "he'd always used fools around him as bait during critical moments." For a reason yet to be explained as I'm writing this, Saheon grew up experiencing situations that force him to build such a heightened awareness for danger... and his family knew. Contrary to his character whose goals and thoughts hinge on his survival, Saheon's surprisingly gullible. He's crafty in pretending to be amicable and innocent, yet instinctively cowers and becomes docile when Soleum pushes him into a corner. Like he's trying to appease someone threatening, someone with authority. It's common for victims of abuse to flinch at those with more power at them, and it usually starts with family (this is just speculation). But we're also led to believe that he trusts them enough to believe that the cassette tape is anitem that can help him, since he didn't want it taken away by the company.
Ok, I've said a lot of things that's mere speculation based on scraps, but let's look at Saheon's relationship with Soleum. In The Dark Shadows(school) noticeably has Saheon attacks Soleum, in spite of that he didn't actually intend to really take Soleum's life. As he assumed Soleum to have a name tag already, the item that guarantees one doesn't actually die. Saheon has so many chances to actually kill Soleum, but he doesn't. I think Saheon's choice to make Soleum not notice him for a while with the fountain pen, elucidates his fear of what might happen after Soleum surprised him by, well, not dying from the fireworks. Saheon's attitude to Soleum is both of terrified submission, yet also... one of reverence in a way. Soleum, from Saheon's perspective, is capable of just about anything.
Contains spoilers for the bureau spy arc:
Even thinking Soleum's capable of becoming a cat. In a strange way, I feel even if Saheon is always on his toes around Soleum, the only thing he kind trusts is Soleum's abilities to deliver. And hear me out when I say, Soleum may or may not be one of the first people who's genuinely kind to him. Possibly, there are parallels between Saheon's relative giving him an item, someone he trusts, and Soleum exchanging items for the low price of gossip. Fortunately for him, Soleum doesn't expect much of Saheon yet still keeps him around. As Saheon's 'milestones' to becoming Viper are thwarted by Soleum, I can't help but think Saheon is developing... real trust with someone who won't take advantage of him. Like, Saheon... telling someone, and that someone being Soleum... to take care? For the first time...?
Anyways, I have a lot more to say on how Soleum views Saheon. And the Saheon being from a cult theory. But that's for another time.
If you've managed to read this far into the post, thank you for sticking around for my word vomit. Whenever I think of Baek Saheon I want to scream and pace around, so apologies if this kept on going around in circles. You deserve a gold star dear reader. This was written merely as a way for me to put down my thoughts on Saheon I've had for a while, somewhere.
Saheon has so many little nuggets of information, and I think about them all the time.

kdj and his sword being the unbroken faith has so much meaning and symbolism and says a lot about him
kdj is a selfish, self-loathing and exhuasted man who lived day to day in a world that has long since been ruined and even simply surviving was an arduous task. everyday, he slaved away at a corporation that was corrupted with nepotism and workplace harrassment. he was easily deemed lesser and disposible by a capitslist society who doesn't care that not everyone is equal because it wasn't profitable and that their souls are broken more and more by this money centric life. friendless, loveless and having practically no family, his only reason for living the last 13 years of his life was a free webnovel.
and yet despite all of this, kdj is so wondrously idealistic. he was, after all, a dreamer.
when the scenarios began, his world didnt change much. it was still a scummy capitalist system that only cared about lives as long as it was profitable and thereby worth something. now it was just faster in disposing of those it deemed useless or invalids. never caring for the intrinsic value a story or human life held. no, not much changed when the scenarios began. but what did change was that he found people and found a way to finally communicate with them.
kdj, the only reader of the story and knowing fully well how bad and difficult and downright awful things will be, still said he wanted to see the end of the scenarios. kdj still said, i will reach there with no sacrifices. i will reach there with all my companions.
kdj picked up his blade with the unwavering faith, and pointed it at enemies, at constellations, at the star stream, at companions and at yoo joonghyuk.
he swung his sword against them all, and it said, "i will reach the end of the scenarios with my companions."
he used his unbroken faith against yjh and as their swords clashed, his said, "i will reach the end of the scenarios with you."
because despite having little love for himself, kdj had this indomitable will and faith in his companions. an almost religious, unbelievable, and unwavering amount of faith. the blade in hands sings, "i believe in you."
unbroken faith in kaizenix arc analysis

Discrepancy #49
Dokja actually uses [Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint] lv.2 a lot more in the novel.
It’s been a hot second since I had a discrepancy-
In the webtoon, Dokja explains pretty much exactly how he and the others survived the first scenario without much prompting other than Joonghyuk’s first question.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ORV Webtoon, Episode 11]
The discussion is very divided. Dokja speaks and then there’s a sequence of Joonghyuk thinking things through.
Meanwhile, in the novel, Dokja uses the context clues from his ability to figure out the right thing to say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ORV Novel, Chapter 11]
It’s more back and forth until the end where Joonghyuk has his fun existential crisis.
I actually like how Dokja is actively using what he hears from other people’s minds to aid his own intentions. It’s like having a play through guide in a dating sim; figuring out what to say to get your desired response. It also makes more sense this way when Dokja’s ability forcibly shuts off due to heavy immersion.
ORV is an amazing ability, as we know, and he’s already used level 1 the way it was intended. This second level isn’t just so he can hear people’s thoughts, but also so that he can orchestrate the reactions he wants.
I just like how it’s done in the novel better.

I'm noticing that because of Rashta's status as a runaway slave, people misunderstand her as a character despite their well-intentioned analysis.
I'm saying this because I'm seeing people trying to make it out like Rashta is entirely innocent and a lot more caring than she is shown to be canonically.
I still vividly remember Rashta happily thinking about replacing one of her ladies-in-waiting purely so she can improve her own image. And it had everything to do with that woman's status. That didn't happen as a result of Rashta being manipulated into it like her other decisions. Since she ended up in a position of power, she has shown disregard for someone below her because she doesn't benefit her.
Maybe this is because I'm only on chapter 131 as of right now, and I've never read the webnovel, but what has Rashta done to help people like her? And if she has, is it because she genuinely cares or because it benefits her in some way?
This is what makes her great as a character. She reminds us that being a victim doesn't make you a good person, nor should that absolve you of any wrongdoing.
Rashta may be ignorant, but she is not stupid. When she gets opportunities to climb the ladder, she will gladly take it and throw anyone under the bus. She intentionally puts up an image of herself to manipulate people around her.
Idk it's frustrating to see people who call out fans for ignoring obvious flaws and outright terrible behavior from characters like Navier and Heinley but turn a blind eye to stuff Rashta does.
Also, I love how every single post about The Remarried Empress I've made so far focuses on Rashta.

Hi!
So first off I love your page and seeing all the content on 'Love For Love's Sake' / 'Love Supremacy Zone', becuz your analysis and summaries are always informative and AMAZING.
it's my current hyperfixation and I'm obsessed.
And since you are more knowledgeable and read ALL of the Novel, there is something I'd like to ask that has been confusing me -
I want to read the webnovel but everywhere I see, it says there are a different number of chapters - it says this -
Status in COO:
118 Chapters (Completed) 7 Side Story Chapters (Completed) 5 Side Story Extra Chapters (Completed) 6 Side Story Special Chapters (Completed) 22 Side Story Bonus Chapters (Completed)
What I know:
118 Chapters (main story) 6 chapters (side story with their anniversary/ proposal) 22 chapters (19 Myungha time-travelling to 29)
But what are the last two?
5 Chapters 7 Chapters
Also why is a 'special' story 18+ on Ridibooks?
And if you could tell please, where did you read the whole story? Was it in English or did you read in Korean/use a translator?
I've been stressing over this for like months and cant get an answer anywhere
Sorry for the long question - thank you for taking the time to read <3
Thank you so much and you're very welcome, first of all! I saw you in my notifs and I was very happy to meet another LFLS obsessed person :D
I gotta admit, I didn't read the novel and webtoon... I mean, I started it but I haven't finished yet. I've read the fan-translated version of a novel (which is like 1/3 of korean novel?) and I have access to Ridibooks where I decided to start with reading Spinoff story (since I sort of know that's completely new and kdrama closely follow original novel)
I can assume 18+ story might be including chapters with somewhat NC scenes? (I haven't read them yet tbh I'm still wary of buying such things on Korean websites, blame my paranoia) but other than that, the rest seemed like the typical novel (118 chapters) + Special side story (I haven't read it yet) of 6 chapters + bonus stage released in 2024 with 22 chapters . You say 6 chapters about proposal? I gotta read it then! Though the proposal was hinted at in the last spinoff story though...xD
I don't see different separation in Ridibooks. I see 118-6-22 chapters too. Oh, but I see 19+ version with 7 and 5 chapters, maybe that's the one you're talking about? But sorry, I haven't read them yet... I might do it though xD
But I have Kdrama storyboard + scriptbook right now to read! As in actual physical book, so I'm very curious to read and check what differences there are in actual drama (Taevin said they had to give up some scenes because of the weather etc). + I will work on translating spinoff soon while somebody else has been translating the original novel. Not sure about 19+ version one xD
And also they are releasing Bluray and DVD right now with extra commentary and everything... I should not spend more money on LFLS editions... I should not...... please tell me you guys don't need to know all those extra commentaries and behind the scenes....xD

I keep seeing you posting about orv and I am SO intrigued what is it and More Importantly where can I find it 👀👀👀
ray from my notes hello!!!! ORV IS SO GOOD
It's a Massive korean webnovel, properly called Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. It is a novel that speaks to the soul of everyone who's identity is heavily built on stories. Kim Dokja, who's name literally mans 'reader', has been reading one singular webnovel for over a decade to keep him going through life. The day that webnovel ends, it becomes real, ushering in the apocalypse alongside the fictional characters that Kim Dokja has been obsessing over since childhood, including the protagonist, Yoo Joonghyuk.
That's the story in a nutshell, but it's not just an isekai (or kind of the reverse since the world comes to him). This is Kim Dokja's story. This is a reader using a decade of power analysis and character reading and desperate loneliness to try and bring about the very best ending he can think of. But the world is not that simple.
And the apocalypse plays into this. It's not just monsters, it's a Story. Every event is an artificial creation of the dokkaebi to entertain Constellations that take the form of various myths and historical figures--stories are power.
It's INSANE and over 500 chapters long and currently being serialized as a webtoon, too! The webtoon is available on Webtoon and wherever those are usually found, but the novel--I think someone's got a refreshed translation up somewhere, or it's on the Internet Archive! I got the epub file from a friend.

hi besties i have been gone for a while but I am back. lately I've been feeling super tired even when I wake up and I had no clue what was wrong so I went to the doc and she had no clue either and after several tests it turns out that I have. a vitamin D deficiency 🧍‍♂️ which is- a) fucking hilarious bc i cannot believe that the outcome of doing a million tests is simply that I need to go out in the sun more, and b) pretty intriguing because apparently a vitamin D deficiency is really common in adhd patients? damn. Yeah so I gotta go to the doc again tomorrow for like a final assessment but yeah. bottom line is that I'm a plant :P
other things that happened this week
