Japa Mala necklaces were born out of a passion for creating handmade jewelry that is original and meaningful. They are designed with love and according to the client's wishes. My goal is to provide beautiful jewelry that not only looks good, but in which you will feel good. My necklaces are designed to increase vibrations through the healing properties of gemstones, which are not only nice to look at, but also have the power to heal. I create my jewelry to inspire and support your connection to yourself, and to support your mindfulness journey. Slow down, breathe and come back to yourself. Use Japa Mala necklaces or ""Buddhist rosary"" (as they are often called) to focus your energy and attention.
What Are Mala Beads?
A mala is simply a string of beads that are used in meditation practice. Sacred Buddhist mala beads have been used for centuries by many spiritual traditions as a tool to help to calm the mind, center oneself, and connect the best that is within us.
""Mala"" means ""meditation garland"" in Sanskrit, ""Japa"" means to repeat a mantra or prayer. Malas are typically made with 18, 27, 54, 81, 99, or 108 beads. But mostly they are a strand of 108 beads, which are traditionally used in Buddhist and Hindu practices of meditation and prayer.
These necklaces, sometimes called “Buddhist rosary”, are traditional tools used to count the number of times a mantra is recited or breaths we've done, it is a tool that acts as a tactile guide as you sit in silence…
Benefits Of Mala Beads
Mala beads have been used in so many different spiritual traditions for so long because these beads have many powerful benefits for the body, mind, and spirit. Some of the below eight benefits are universal for all types of prayer or counting beads but several of these benefits are specific to mala beads.
Increases focus during mantra meditation.
An efficient and practical tool to count mantras.
An easy way to keep track of the number of mantras recited.
Physical contact with prayer beads transmits their inherent healing powers.
Once mala is empowered it can be used for even more powerful healing of yourself and others.
Choosing a mala to purchase can help in the process of determining goals and intentions and spiritual pursuits.
Seeing or wearing a mala can serve as a reminder of one’s intention and goals. It can also be used as a reward or symbol for accomplishing a difficult task.
Mala Beads In Modern Yoogi Time
Malas are growing in popularity and can be used not only for your meditation practice but also as decorations or jewelry. You may see malas adorning the wrists, necks, and altars of meditation devotees and at the top of mats of yoga practitioners. These beautiful necklaces often hold special significance for the bearer based on where they got it, why they chose the stones, and the energy resonance they feel with the beads.
People more and more love malas because they can combine fashion and function. Malas can be made out of any number of materials including rudraksha tree, the wood of the tulsi plant, lotus seeds, sandalwood, or precious gemstones.
These days people choose to wear Mala Beads for a number of reasons: as part of meditation practice; to benefit from the energy of the crystals and gemstones; as a reminder of intentions they've set; because of a meaning they've associated with them; or simply because they're beautiful…
The History Of Mala Beads
Mala beads are used in other cultures and religions but are known by different names, such as prayer beads, rosary beads, and worry beads. Over two-thirds of the world’s population employ some type of counting beads as part of their spiritual practice. The use of beads in prayer appears to have originated around the 8th century B.C.E. in India.
Beads by themselves have had a powerful influence and importance in human history. The oldest beads found to date are approximately 42,0000 years old. Beads have been used throughout our history as talismans for protection, amulets for luck, status symbols for wealth and authority, spiritual and religious tools, and as a form of barter. The meanings and use of beads have changed significantly over time—they have been used to symbolize personal and cultural relationships, physical, magical and supernatural power, and common cultural world-views.

Is Gemstone An Alternative To Rudraksha?
In today’s spiritual practices, many seek tools that enhance energy, mindfulness, and spiritual growth. Rudraksha beads have long been regarded as powerful sacred symbols, known for their ability to balance the mind and body. But are gemstones an equally effective alternative to Rudraksha? In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the unique properties of both Rudraksha and gemstones, comparing their benefits, applications, and spiritual significance. If you’re considering gemstones as an alternative to Rudraksha, this article will provide the clarity you need to make an informed decision.
What is Rudraksha?
Rudraksha beads are seeds of the Rudraksha tree, often used as sacred objects in Hinduism and Buddhism. Traditionally associated with Lord Shiva, they are believed to offer protection, peace of mind, and a path toward spiritual awakening.
Tumblr media
Key Benefits of Rudraksha:
Promotes mental clarity and focus
Enhances inner peace and reduces stress
Shields against negative energies
Provides spiritual growth and enlightenment
What are Gemstones?
Gemstones are natural crystals known for their beauty and metaphysical properties. Used in various forms of healing and spiritual practices, gemstones are believed to enhance energy, balance chakras, and amplify intentions.
Key Benefits of Gemstones:
Energy amplification and chakra balancing
Promotes healing and emotional well-being
Offers protective qualities depending on the type of gemstone
Can be used in meditation, jewelry, and Feng Shui
Gemstones vs. Rudraksha: Which is Better for You?
1. Spiritual Power and Connection
Rudraksha: These beads are believed to be deeply connected to spiritual energies, particularly in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The beads are often used for prayer and meditation, serving as a bridge between the practitioner and the divine.
Gemstones: Gemstones like amethyst, turquoise, and sapphire have spiritual connections as well, often associated with chakra balancing, energy healing, and intention setting. They are used across many cultures for their metaphysical properties.
2. Practical Applications
Rudraksha: Most commonly worn as malas or prayer beads, Rudraksha can be used for chanting mantras and meditation. They have a very specific use within spiritual traditions and are less versatile outside of these contexts.
Gemstones: Gemstones offer more versatility in terms of how they can be used. You can wear them as jewelry, place them around your home for Feng Shui, or use them in meditation practices. Gemstones can be tailored to specific needs, such as love, health, protection, or prosperity.
3. Energy and Healing Properties
Rudraksha: These beads are believed to provide calming and protective energy. Wearing them is said to balance the mind and body, creating a sense of inner peace.
Gemstones: Different gemstones resonate with different types of energy. For example, rose quartz is linked to love and compassion, while black tourmaline is known for its protective qualities. Depending on your needs, specific gemstones can offer tailored healing properties.
4. Cultural Significance
Rudraksha: Rooted deeply in Hinduism, Rudraksha beads are symbols of Lord Shiva and carry significant cultural and religious weight. Wearing them is a sign of devotion and respect toward these spiritual traditions.
Gemstones: Gemstones hold cultural significance in various traditions worldwide, from ancient Egypt to traditional Chinese medicine. Their widespread appeal makes them more universal than Rudraksha, especially in Western spiritual practices.

5. Affordability and Accessibility
Rudraksha: Authentic Rudraksha beads can range in price based on their size, quality, and rarity. They are generally affordable but are less accessible outside of specific spiritual communities.
Gemstones: Gemstones come in a wide price range, making them accessible to almost everyone. From affordable stones like amethyst to high-end gems like diamonds, there is a gemstone for every budget.
Popular Gemstones as Alternatives to Rudraksha
If you’re looking for alternatives to Rudraksha beads, here are some powerful gemstones that can offer similar spiritual benefits:
Amethyst: Known for its calming and meditative properties, amethyst is great for spiritual protection and clarity.
Black Tourmaline: Often used for grounding and protection, black tourmaline is ideal for dispelling negative energies.
Lapis Lazuli: This stone promotes wisdom, truth, and deep spiritual connection.
Rose Quartz: The stone of unconditional love, rose quartz enhances compassion, peace, and emotional healing.
Tiger’s Eye: A protective and stabilizing stone, Tiger’s Eye boosts confidence and courage.
How to Choose Between Rudraksha and Gemstones
When deciding whether to use Rudraksha or gemstones, consider the following factors:
Spiritual Alignment: If your practice is rooted in Hindu or Buddhist traditions, Rudraksha beads may feel more aligned with your spiritual goals. On the other hand, if you resonate with modern spiritual practices, gemstones may offer more flexibility and variety.
Personal Intention: Gemstones can be chosen based on specific intentions (e.g., healing, protection, love). If you have a particular need or focus, a gemstone might be the better option.
Cultural Significance: Those who value tradition may prefer Rudraksha for its religious connections, while those interested in broader metaphysical practices may lean toward gemstones.
Aesthetic Preference: Gemstones come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, offering aesthetic appeal in addition to their spiritual benefits. If you’re seeking something visually stunning, gemstones provide more options.
Conclusion
Both Rudraksha and gemstones are powerful tools for spiritual growth, protection, and healing. Your choice ultimately depends on your personal beliefs, practices, and goals. Rudraksha beads are deeply tied to specific religious traditions and offer a focused path toward spiritual enlightenment. In contrast, gemstones provide more versatility, allowing for a broader range of applications across various spiritual practices.
Whether you choose Rudraksha or gemstones, the key is to align with what resonates most with your spiritual journey. Explore both options, and trust your intuition to guide you toward the right path.

"The Pistol." Introduction to the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad, the Exploration of the Mysteries of the Metronome.
Tumblr media
The Rudrasksha Jabala Upanishad was written in the late 10th Century. It is numbered 73 of 108 and is contained in the Sama Veda. Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad is one of 14 Upanishads that comprise an exclusively Shaivite approach to Vedanta, meaning they explore the yoga of the monotheism of the god Shiva, the Destroyer of Ignorance.
Meditation upon Shiva is said to be most direct and most lasting way to realize the Self, the Supreme Personality that drives all that is pure and worthy of praise in the creation. The Upanishad focuses on the proper use of the mala, the string of sacred seeds called a rudraksha that tune the mind into the attributes of God that are the root drivers of the realization of the Self.
In the Book of Chronicles, Hiram, the King of Lebanon and his court teach Solomon and the Jews how to meditate on Shiva as an important aspect of building a Kingdom. Solomon must have believed him as he added the Four Vedas to the Temple Furnishings in the Upper Landing. It is not enough to talk about the Black Sea that separates the soul of man from the soul of God and study it or pray around it. One must be able to go back and forth with ease. For this one needs to study the Upanishads and become competent at going across the Sea and also going up the summit of Sinai if one wants to know all that can be known about the Most High.
Even the God of Israel acknowledges He dwells in between light and black. The text begins with a discussion between a man who is called the Pistol and Shiva Himself who explains time is like a string of beads one hundred crores in length. The days are best spent as if they are all “the right size”, each one spent in utter devotion to God.
To be devoted to the giving of the Ten Cows to society, and spend one day after another devoted to the fulfilment of the will of God is said to extend the value of life a thousand-fold plus one hundred fold:
Hail Om! I praise the Effulgent State of Absolute Peace, belonging to Sri Maharudra, which is to be known through the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad.
Bhusunda “the pistol” questioned Lord Kalagnirudra “the fire at the end of time”: What is the beginning of Rudraksha beads? What is the benefit of wearing them on the body?
Lord Kalagnirudra answered him thus: I closed my eyes for the sake of destroying the Tripura Asuras (demons of the three types). From my eyes thus closed, drops of water fell on the earth.
These drops of tears turned into Rudrakshas. By the mere utterance of the name of ‘Rudraksha’, one acquires the benefit of giving ten cows in charity. By seeing and touching it, one attains double that benefit. I am unable to praise it any more. I closed my eyes one thousand celestial years.
Then from my eyelids, drops of water dropped down and attained the state of immobility for blessing the devoted persons. This Rudraksha destroys the devotees’ sins that are committed both night and day, by wearing it.
By mere vision of the Rudraksha, the benefit will be say, a lac. But by wearing them, it will be a crore. Why, it will be equal to hundred crores. But it will be a thousand lacs of crores and hundred lacs of crores times powerful when one does Japa with Rudraksha and wears it at all times.
Among Rudrakshas, one as big as Amalaka (myrobalan), is considered to be the best. One as big as the Badari fruit (Indian berry) is considered to be of the middle sort. But that as big as Chana (Bengal gram) is considered to be the worst of all. This is my idea about the size of Rudraksha beads.
We sin because we anticipate the end of time but have no plan for it. No one wants to die desireless, but how one would like to die and in what state is never discussed until it is too late. The God Shiva will destroy all time and all notions of mortality and immortality during the hour of death, but that sounds like no fun at all.
To be conscious of the importance of the days while they seem and feel long and long is the beginning of wisdom. The three demonic states, laziness, agitation, and extreme piousness, devotion to spiritual principals without merit, like excessive praying, Pro-Life, persecution of others for whatever reason, these cut the days short of their full potential for peace.
The Upanishad says far better are daily increments of the realization of the Self, called “drops of water across the closed eyes.” In the Quran, Muhammad says all religious things must result in a state far beyond them:
This is the Book of Allah, there is no doubt in it; it is a guidance for the pious for those who believe in the existence of that which is beyond the reach of perception, who establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them.
-Al Baqara 1-7.
To spend the days wisely as God has implied is a Commandment man has always chosen to ignore. Thus begins the Upanishad.

Tumblr media
Rudraksha beads, small, brown, and often seen strung together, are not just simple seeds; they are a rich part of cultural and spiritual traditions in many places around the world. The appeal of Rudraksha beads goes beyond Indian shores. In places like Nepal and other parts of Southeast Asia, these beads are important in Buddhist traditions, symbolizing compassion and serenity. Interestingly, they have also gained popularity in Western countries. People in the United States and Europe, especially those interested in yoga and meditation, wear these beads for their exotic appeal and believed healing properties. They are seen as a connection to Eastern spirituality and a tool for personal well-being.
Benefits for Health and Mind
Many people wear Rudraksha beads like the 6 Mukhi Rudraksha and other ones, not just for their spiritual significance but also for their supposed health benefits. It is believed that these beads can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and improve focus. Different types of beads, each with a specific number of ‘mukhis’, are said to have unique benefits. For instance, some are thought to help with heart health, while others may aid in mental clarity and concentration.
A Symbol of Unity and Diversity
The widespread use of Rudraksha beads across different cultures and religions is a testament to their unifying power.
