The Great Knitted Christmas Gifts Bonanza of 2024
(Working title)
Besties and beloved mutuals, welcome to the chaos.
This will be wacky. Zany. Incredibly boring at times and possibly excessively dramatic for no reason at all except my (and hopefully your) amusement. We will laugh! I will cry! We will perhaps commiserate over things and also I will aggravate my carpal tunnel! I will ask for advice on things I don't know how to do! I will make polls because audience participation is enrichment for me! Good shit good shit let's get started
At the time of writing it is September 18, 2024, also known as 98 days before Christmas Eve, which will heretofore be known as The Deadline™️. I have, at present, four family members for whom I am making gifts. Now you may be thinking "Kay, that's only four people. That does not warrant a big post." But I'm making one anyway so here we goooo
PERSON #1
Mom. I already decided on my mom's gift, she's getting a shawl. It's my first shawl and I'm kinda geeked about it. It's the Cosmos Textured Knit Wrap from Mama in a Stitch
(photo taken from Mama in a Stitch's website I hope that's ok??)
Yarn is Red Heart worsted weight acrylic in Royal. Now here's the situation: I haven't made a wearable with acrylic yarn in awhile and I wasn't a huge fan of how it felt last time. But I know people do it literally every day, so: when the time comes I will be soliciting advice on how to make it soft and comfy. Plus I hate blocking and I'm gonna have to block this so yay growth!!
PERSON #2
My sister. Adorable, likes a pastel, super long hair, so I was thinking...scrunchies? And then I was thinking scrunchies are not necessarily on the level of gift I was aiming for so I thought...scrunchies + matching leg warmers (babydoll goes to the gym sometimes so i thought it would be cute)? And then. AND THEN. Was scrolling Pinterest instead of sleeping and I found these!!!
Now there are pros and cons
Pros:
I have been wanting to knit lace
I have been wanting to knit socks
Cons:
I have no experience knitting lace or socks
Oh well f*ck it we ball! Will still try to match the scrunchies to the socks. Send thoughts/prayers/advice/yarn recs, because idk what I am doingggg
PERSON #3
My brother. So, at the first of the year I started knitting a blanket kind of just because--I really liked the pattern and I wanted the feeling of starting something new in the new year. In April I decided it would be a gift for my boyfriend at the time, in May it became too hot to knit with wool, and in July the relationship ended. My brother has expressed interest in a blanket from the same pattern and has offered to take this one off my hands. I'm about 3/4 of the way done. Should be an easy gift, right? Maybe I'll throw in a matching pillow?
However, I once promised to make him this sweater:
(image snagged from the MomentsinTwine Etsy shop)
I bought the pattern, I bought the yarn, and I never delivered. (I started it and frogged it twice because my gauge was so so off.)
So uhhh PLEASE do the poll I need help deciding. Yarn would probably be a golden yellow wool blend, because that is the color he wanted 3 years ago and if I ask for an updated color choice he'll know what I'm working on 😭
PERSON #4
My dad.
Y'all.
I have no idea what to do for this man. He is a very classic "I don't want anything" person, and I am a classic "Must. Give. Gift." person. So already, times are tough!! What am I supposed to knit this man???
So I was thinking slippers-- I found a pattern for Woodland Loafers on Ravelry (pattern by Claire Slade) and I thought they were adorable. But then I was thinking why not make a whole, like, cozy care package? So I thought slippers, mug rug + mug cozy, maybe something else? He likes music, he likes to relax and watch his lil shows, he likes M*rvel?? Open to so many suggestions babes.
So...yeah. That's the show. I'll update as I go along, and if you're ever curious about how things are going or want to bully me about not making progress, please nudge me!! Sorry this was so long okay bye

Title— Not So Poisonous
Prompt— Established Lover
Safety— SFW
Additional Tags— Fluff, So much Fluff, He’s just really cute
Portrayed as— Male, He/Him
Author Note— This is my first try at Atticus, not sure if I’ll do more. Depends on the feedback i guess but he's fun
1. Contrary to what many may think with how busy he is and his dedication to his team, training and things alike. Atticus is a very attentive lover; Especially when it comes to the small details about you. He’s quick to notice anything new you’ve bought or worn around him for the first time be it your shirt, hat, gloves, right down to any accessories or jewellery if you’re the type to enjoy that. His attentiveness to the small details might be easily brushed off as his incredible fashion sense, however he does much more then just that.
2. Atticus has a memory unrivalled to any you’ve ever met before, he knows all your little habits and remembers all the things you’ve claimed as a favourable item, place or action. On particularly hard times or days he is always right by your side with something among your many likes to offer some kind of happiness in the hard moment. No matter what it is, a small snack you love, a warm blanket for comfort, taking you to places you enjoy to calm down; he remembers them all for you.
3. Being very good with his hands comes with more skills then what you might have expected, he’s the creative type with any and everything although fabric is certainly his speciality. Atticus loves to spend his free time making things for you, when you’re asleep in his arms or by his side he refuses to leave and waits patiently for you to wake; spending his time sewing or trying his hand at other crafts such as knitting he usually ends up making you small wearable or huggable items. Decorative bracelets, charms for your bag and even going as far to spend several weeks on making you plush toys in the shape of your beloved pokemon, doing so without you managing to catch him until he wants you to.
4. Given his background Atticus can be a little jumpy and picky with touch in general from anyone, though with you he simply melts into your hands immediately. You can grab him just about whenever you like and he never minds, he tends to know you’re there long before you actually manage to sneak up on him but he sometimes plays it off for you to see you smile.
5. He particularly enjoys when you do simple things for him, holding his hands, cupping his face softly, pressing your forehead to his. The small actions have his heart beating a thousand times a second, a sure way to have his cheeks warm and ears tipped with red is offer small gestures suddenly, for no reason other then you want to do it, paint his nails for him, brush back his hair, help him tie down the back of his clothing, helping him wash out any dirt from tough to deal with fabric. Atticus is all about the little things.
6. Although his way of speaking is very formal and at times a little hard to decipher immediately, he’s patient with you and isn’t at all against teaching you the meaning behind his words. He’s very sweet and understanding when it comes to his speech patterns; if you express wanting to learn more to better understand him he absolutely adores it. Wanting to learn about the things he does, his reasoning, anything at all regarding what makes him who he is will absolutely make his day no matter how difficult it had been for him.
7. Atticus is someone who plays very fairly with any thing, be it battles or even board games. He takes a loss with pride and strives to learn from it, although its always in a friendly competition when it comes to you; he progressively becomes harder and harder to beat until he almost topples you over. For one reason or another though he rarely ever actually does it, generally tending to back away before you fall defeated before him. Your smile and joyful victorious laughter are always worth losing for.

Hopefully, this is not too vague... I was wondering if you could do fluff with Molly; his nickname for the reader is 'princess'. (I have had a rough couple weeks, found out some bad news regarding my dad's health, and am just wanting a little pick-me-up. You are literally my favorite writer of the lavender tiefling trio.)
A load of fluff with some hinted spice coming right up. Sorry about your dad, sweetie and hope things take a more positive turn. Either way, I hope this is the pick-me-up you're looking for. 😘
-
You’re no stranger to waking up alone but never does it stop you from reaching out to the spot next to you. When you’re not met with a soft groan or arms wrapping around you, pulling you close begging for another five minutes of peace you know your lavender tiefling has begun his day before you. Rolling over onto your back you stretch taking in a deep breath. Time to get ready for the day, maybe find some breakfast? Breakfast sounds nice.
Mollymauk walks down the beaten path, a skip in his step and a small bouquet of wild roses clasped in his hand. He’s been up and about for a good hour now and like the good carney he is he’s working on quite the show in his mind; a show that requires the aid of a pretty face, charming smile and honeyed words he alone cannot provide. No he needs assistance and if he plans on getting this assistance he better work for it. Okay, maybe it’s not his plan. Maybe this is all just the result of a major fuck up on his end but still, it will make for some good fun… if all goes well… and you agree… The fact he gets to pamper you is a huge bonus. It’s been a while since he’s gotten the chance to show you just how much you mean to him.
Could Molly just ask for your help? Of course he could. And would you agree to join him on this endeavour? How could you refuse that devilishly handsome man? But where’s the fun in that. Let’s keep things interesting. Raise the stakes a little bit and see where his charm will get him. Or perhaps more, see how long it takes you to catch on tp the mess he made and pray to the Moonweaver you’ll be merciful. A test of his charm perhaps? Whatever excuse best justifies his actions and desires to spoil you rotten.
Stretching your arms with one final yawn you leave your tent. It’s too early to be up but you best keep an eye on your tiefling before he gets himself thrown into jail and you have to break him out… again. Wandering the camp the other members of the Fletching and Moondrop Carnival of Curiosities are waking up and going about their morning business at their own paces. You search for Molly but when you don’t find him you take to the road, following it towards the town. If he’s caused any trouble there you’d find out soon enough.
A lovely melody reaches Molly’s ears. He knows exactly who it belongs to and hears you before he sees you. All he needs to do is follow your song. Curving over the elevation of the path he spots you, lost in thought. Smile on his face he approaches you, flowers behind his back, and joins in whistling along to the melody. The way your eyes light up at the realisation of his presence are enough to make his heart melt knowing that one creature could look upon him with such unconditional love.
“Good morning, your royal highness.” Mollymauk takes a bow befitting of greeting royalty if not a little exaggerated and offers you the flowers. While he tries to keep his gaze on the ground you catch him peaking for your response as you take the flowers from his grasp breathing in their scent.
“Good morning to you too. And thank you, I should say? What’s the occasion?” You ask, not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth but you can’t help feel a little suspicious at Molly’s very deliberate theatrics.
“Can a most loyal servant not present his beloved princess with flowers?” Molly rises and you get the slightest flash of fang from the smile he offers you.
“You know I am never one to deny your gifts and gestures of affection. What I’m referring to are your apparent needs for theatrics.” You speak with eloquence feeling yourself slipping into the same act he’s putting on. Dammit Mollymauk, for playing into your actor side and letting you slip up into the role he’s setting you up for. You know damn well he’s aware of what he’s doing.
“I am merely your humble servant. A humble servant with impeccable manners.” You snort as Molly offers you his arm. You lace yours through his and he begins leading you back the way you came.
“Impeccable manners you say? Because I recall not but two nights ago copious amounts of drinks, illegal gambling and theft were involved. And let’s not even mention the… desecration of the fountain within the gaze of the Platinum Dragon’s statue.”
“You say that as if those of noble birth do not partake in such activities, princess.” Molly counters. Touché. As you’re about to take a step to the right fork of the road Molly gently pulls you into the left direction instead. Confused you give him another suspicious look but he hushes you leading you down the path.
You find yourself retreating within your thoughts trying to pinpoint whatever shenanigans Molly is up to, planning or has been up to and why the need to be secretive instead of just telling you. Molly couldn’t hope for a better moment for you to stop your interrogation for he fears any more prodding around for answers and he will spill the beans and come clean. He can’t hide a single thing from you when you’re determined and he knows it.
The path slowly turns from trodden earth to more fine sand until it fades into the beach. The sound of waves and a seagull or two make for a pleasant setting. You see just far enough away from the shoreline as to not become victim to the tides, is a basket set on top of a blanket. Molly leads you over, guides you to sit upon the blanket gracefully before plopping down himself with much less show. Within the basket you spot several packed goods. Molly takes a few out and sets them down upon the blanket, unwrapping them as he goes. Some bread, a selection of fine jams, some cheese and delicious sugary sweet pastries.
“Okay, time to drop the act. While I appreciate all this, what did you do and how bad is it?” Molly takes out a bottle of what looks like expensive champagne along with two glasses and pours them, handing one to you.
“What makes you say that?” Molly takes a sip playing it cool and innocent.
“The top shelf bottle of champagne that is very much above our collective pay grades. Where did you even get this?” You take a sip. It’s not bad but not the greatest you’ve ever had either. A weird taste that can only be suitable for some upscale party or the nobility passes out to their guests to impress them simply because of the associated name and or price tag. What can you say? Rich people.
Molly hesitates but drops the innocent act. Best he comes clean now. You’ve caught on fully. Game over. But that definitely doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this delicious breakfast with him, can you? Mollymauk takes a slice of the fresh bread, adding a nice layer of strawberry jam and takes a bite. At least the expensive jam was worth the money. Then again, it wasn’t his money that paid for it. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t money well spent.
“Now, I need you to promise me one thing first, love. Promise me you’ll let me tell you the whole thing before you judge my poor decision making.”
“I can do that.” You lean back and relax taking one of the pastries and taking a bite. Bearclaws with cinnamon? Delicious. Let’s hope for Molly’s sake it will keep your judgement somewhat at bay.
“When we were doing our usual rounds and you were off on your own I may or may not have let it slip to someone who happens to be part of the local nobility, several someones to be more precise, that you may or may not be a princess in hiding. And I may or may not have played a little bit too deeply into the story…”
“Okay, that’s not actually that bad?” Just wait for the second part. It gets worse. On second thought. He may be regretting telling you and not just convincing you to hide away for the next few days in town until you’re back on the road.
“And these poor suckers may have fact checked it finding some evidence of a princess from another continent who supposedly is traveling in disguise. They came to see the show and I want you to remember they left a most generous donation along with an invitation for you to attend a ball held in your honour.” Molly awaits your response as you stop mid bite.
“So they left an invitation for a princess? What about it? Just don’t show up and done.”
“That would work if the local lord did not gently hinted at exposing said princess and sending the guards to return them to their family as they ran away and the good favour of either side of that royal family should greatly benefit this town. I’m sorry, princess but your presence has been demanded.”
Okay… This is bad. You do not feel like being hunted by the guards and it’s not like you can make an inconspicuous escape now people might look at you as royalty. You set down the pastry clasp your hands together closing your eyes. You inhale and exhale deeply as Molly briefly fears for his life.
“You… really need to learn to hold that tongue of yours, Molly. It’s getting you in all sorts of trouble.” He bites back a comment about using that tongue of his for plenty of other good things. He’s having trouble reading where you stand on this all and doesn’t know wether you’re upset with him or disappointed or if he has to be the one running for his life soon.
“Let’s talk to Orna and get some appropriate dress for the occasion ready and wearable even if that means she’ll have to sew us into our garments.” You sigh.
“Us?” He questions and he does not like the mischievous look on your face. Whatever you’re plotting, he hopes you have mercy on his soul.
“Oh, I will not be attending on my own. No, a princess does not go anywhere without their loyal servant. A princess needs their escort to attend to their every whim.” You hold your chin high as you move to sitting on your knees pushing your palm flush against his chest exercising a little pressure to push him to lean back onto his elbows.
“Every whim you say?” Molly asks with a devilish grin as you swing one leg over him gently keeping him in place with your body and wrapping your arms around his neck playing with the short hairs at the back of his neck. Maybe the turnout isn’t so bad.
“‘Every whim you say, princess’.” You correct mimicking his grin and leaning in closer. Molly goes to close the distance but you raise your index finger to his chin. “Ah-ah.”
“May I not kiss you now, ‘princess’?” He mocks and you give him a stern look.
“It’s unbecoming of a mere servant to make such a bold move.” You pull on his hair when Molly tries to land a kiss on your cheek rather enjoying the turn of events this morning.
“Yet you appear to be the one in full control.”
“He knows his place. Good boy.” You praise with a pat to his cheek and you guide his face to yours, your lips meeting in a deep kiss, the food forgotten. Molly’s hands dance over from your hips to your lower back pulling you closer to him. You earn an unsatisfied grumble when you pull away a moment too soon.
“Must you torture me so with your touch, princess?” Molly laughs fully aware what direction this is going, raising a hand to caress your cheek fondly.
“Will you finally learn how to behave?” You trace the peacock feathers curving up the side of his neck and jaw. You don’t get a verbal reply but instead Molly’s lips find their way to your neck leaving a trail of kisses and little bites as he goes enough to make you giggle and squeal in surprise whenever he finds just the right spot, taking your mind far away from the details of the fuck up that lead you here in the first place. Not that you mind anymore. If this is the treatment you get for being dragged into one of Mollymauk’s lies gone south you’ll gladly take it a thousand times over.

Is there gonna be a part 3 of the soulmate au?
Keith came back from his regular workout and run around the local park, sweat clinging to his shirt from all the exercise. Ever since his argument with Lance inside the school’s gym and outburst about not being anyone’s first choice, Keith never went back.
Gossip spreads around a lot, and something as juicy and entertaining as this is definitely going to be talked about. He already had looks and murmurs whenever he walked the campus in between classes which was getting annoying and tedious dealing with the looks of pity and the offers of meaningless sex from soulmarkless guys.
And the things that he usually did to comfort himself when he had a bad day or stressful week wouldn’t help at all. It would only be a cruel reminder of the hope that used to have. What he’d normally do is a Disney movie marathon. He would lay next to Lance in their blanket pile in the living room, eating some kettle corn and singing loudly to the songs that play.
Now seeing any movie involving “true love” and “fairy tale princes” would only bring even more tears to his eyes. He’s done enough crying for a lifetime. There is only so many times he could ask Shiro to buy him more tissues and cookies before even he wasn’t going to let him wallow in tears anymore.
Which is why when his brother threw his jogging clothes at him a hour ago. He woke him up from his long nap saying, “Get your lazy ass out of bed and work off all the birthday cake and ice cream! There’s only so much empty ice cream buckets I can see in the trash before I wonder if you still have any more lactaid pills! Now go, shoo!”
He goes through two buckets of ice cream and suddenly his brother is concerned about his lactose intolerance pills consumption.
Opening up the door to their shared house and finding it devoid of any people wasn’t anything surprising since Shiro was currently spending time with his boyfriends. Heading up to his bedroom and setting his gym bag to the side, he opened up his drawer just to find that it was empty of the expected clothes. The state of the other shelves, his closet, and even the dirty laundry basket was absent of any clothes that he could have changed into.
It seemed that his “beloved” brother planned from the start when he suggested he go to the gym for a work out. No doubt his boyfriends helped him out in the theft of his clothes.
He was going to get back at them for this. Maybe with a off of their eyebrows.
Attempting to try to break into his brother’s room was thwarted by a well timed text from said person saying that he took his clothes too as he suspected that this could happen. He would put the lockpicking lessons with Adam to good use if there were actually any reason to go in there, since his asshole of a brother made sure to strip the entire apartment of anything wearable, even his own room.
Keith was going to make his hair match his old age and that tuft of hair if it was the last thing he did but for now, stealing from his snack stash would have to suffice.
Before could even start his siege on the pantry for the not so hidden oreo stash, he noticed a envelope taped to the door. His name was written in neat cursive on a light blue envelope.
Looking around suspiciously for any hidden cameras, Keith reluctantly opened up the envelope and read its contents aloud.
“The honor of your presence is requested at the Starlight Ball, a fairytale brought to life. The prince hopes to see the esteemed guest of honor grace everyone in his best attire as fitting of his beautiful personality.” Keith muttered before before throwing the card onto the table, tears threatening to fall as it just reminded him that life wasn’t going to be the storybook tale that he dreamed of having..“If this is some sort of prank, Shiro, I’m not falling for it! Fairy tales and Prince Charmings don’t exist and it’s cruel of you to send me something like this!” he yelled.
He’s infuriated. From his clothes getting stolen to the stupid card mocking him over his heartbreak. It’s a cruel reminder that he was never meant to have a soulmate. That Lance would never have loved him anyway… if he had, he would have already come by with his beat up blue car as soon as he found out that they shared soulmarks.
It had been more than a week since it happened. He wasn’t ready to entertain the possibility of a secret admirer wanting to be his new “prince” . He preferred to just wallow in his tears or angrily hit something non-sentient. Or whoever was the shitlord of a higher being that was responsible for fucking with his already miserable life by ringing the doorbell incessantly. If someone came up to his face saying that they were his guardian angel or fairy godmother or some bull crap, they were going to get a fist to their face.
Opening up the door to give them more than a mindful for messing with him, he didn’t expect to see Allura. She’s dressed up in a white shimmering dress that adorned with gems making it sparkle in the dark. Her long hair was delicately pinned up and curled, framing her masked face, making her look more sublime than she already was.
Keith stared at her with his mouth agape at how ethereal she looked. He was so struck by her standing in front of his house that he didn’t notice the box that she was holding in her hand. Only by waving her realistic looking wand in front of his face did she catch his attention, his violet eyes looking up at her blue ones.
“Allura, what the heck are you doing here dressed up like that?” he said, gesturing to her entire outfit with confusion.
“Ah ah ah, I’m not this Allura that you speak of but rather your Fairy Godmother for the night. I am here to get you ready for the ball!” she said enthusiastically before pushing her way inside the house, nudging him with the corner of the box over and over.
“I know it’s you so stop this stupid Fairy Godmother crap. And stop poking me with that stupid box! I’m not going to that stupid ball or party or whatever it is!” he yelled out, shoving the box away from his side, noting that it said Dylan’s Fairytale Fashions.
Looking at him disgruntled, she tapped him on the top of his head with her wand before saying, “You are going to the ball whether you like it or not! And if I must force you, I shall!” She said smugly, showing the kitchen fiasco at last year’s Thanksgiving, an event that only very few people were privy to.
There is a reason why Allura never lets Keith and Shiro cook anymore, due to the event Lotor dubbed the “Broganes Explosive Thanksgiving of 2014.” Everyone knew that Shiro wasn’t the best with but the pair naively thought that Keith would be able to make it at least edible.
Oh how wrong they were.
The pictures of that fateful night showed the entire kitchen in disarray: with the crockpot exploded and its contents dripping on the floor, the counters a complete mess, and Kosmo on top of the table as he demolished the turkey.
Scratch shaving Shiro’s eyebrows. He’d just make sure that his older brother won’t be able to populate the world with his spawn, using their weekly dodgeball game as a excuse to maim him . He’d apologize to Adam later, once he was done being mad at Shiro. Right in that moment, he glared at Allura who was barely batting at eye at his glowering face., It was almost as if she couldn’t tell that he was willing her dress and that box to catch on fire. That or she didn’t care. She knew that she had the upper hand.
Glaring at her for a few more seconds, he eventually caved and yanked the box out of her hands. He ignored her excited giggle before he stomped his way up to his room and tossed the box onto the bed before forcing it open. Tossing the tissue paper towards the trash can, he took out the outfit from the box.
Staring at the ruby suit jacket in front of his eyes. It was embroidered with care at the ends of his sleeves, and uncomplicated white design, beautiful in it’s simplicity. She must have known Keith wasn’t particularly fond of anything flashy and eye catching. In fact, within the entire outfit, the majority of it was simple in a beautiful way. With a black shirt and pants to go with his ruby vest and jacket.
What caught his eyes the most was the light blue mask and flower that was underneath the outfit. It somehow didn’t clash with the style of the outfit. He put on the provided clothes and saw how he looked into the mirror. Keith had to admit, that looked really good in it, tailored to his body in all the right places.
There was no denying that he certainly looked like he came out of a fairy tale with the way he dressed. Almost as if he was actually was going to a ball to meet his one and only…
Just because his ‘Fairy Godmother’ was forcing him to go to the ball didn’t mean that he had to actually meet his ‘Prince Charming’ and dance away into the night with him. He could just go for the free food and call it a good night. That said , he should at least wrangle up his hair into something manageable. So he tied it up before walking out into the living room.
Seeing that Allura was still standing there and with a giddy look on her face, he frowned as he tapped his foot impatiently.
“Since you are so eager to make go to this ball, I assume that you have a way for me to get there? Or do you expect me to go there on my motorcycle?” he huffed.
“There is no possible way that I would let you ruin that outfit that was painstakingly made just for you by going on your motorcycle! Your ride is waiting for you outside!”
And in a flurry of a crapton of dress floof and almost being taken down by Allura’s voluminous hair, he followed after her with a resigned sigh. He stepped out of his apartment, making sure to lock it behind him before turning to look at his ride.
There’s a grandiose carriage in front of him, elegant in its silver and gold design. And true to the theme of Cinderella, footmen and a driver for the carriage were waiting for him, the door already opened for him to enter the simple but elegant seating.
He turned to look at Allura with wide eyes before asking, “You really didn’t hold back when you prepared for this did you?”
She smiled before pulling him into a hug, replying, “Don’t be afraid to try something new just because you were hurt and afraid of what the future holds. Have courage, Keith.”
As she stepped back, Keith looked at her nervously. He was afraid of what was waiting for him if he did go to the ball and it didn’t go as was expected… or that the night would go exactly as it should.
Maybe it would be worth it to take a risk and try to at least see where it went. He may even fall in love with his admirer over time if he let himself be open up to the idea again…
He looked at the grand carriage in front of him and what it actually symbolized. Maybe this was exactly what he needed. Perhaps what he needed wasn’t the idea of falling in love with a soulmate but being open to the idea of falling with someone real. Someone that didn’t fit his mold of what a soulmate was supposed to be, letting himself be open to seeking his own happiness instead of waiting for it.
All he had left to do was step inside to the next chapter of his story.

New Year, New Resolutions
New year, who dis? Just kidding. We know it’s you, our beloved blog readers! It’s the beginning of a new year, which of course means tending to the often maligned task of committing to a resolution of some sort. We’ve made it easy on ourselves and made our resolutions knitting/crocheting/sewing/organizing related, so our chances of completion are pretty good. Here’s what we have our sights set on for 2019:

I really need more everyday, wearable hats (all the tams!), shawls, and sweaters. I have so many other ideas (Black-dyed Aristo lace! Double knit mitts with Capretta Hand Painted! Woodsmoke sweater in Wool of the Andes! Palette mittens using Knit Like a Latvian! All the tvåändsstickning!) we’ll see how my focus holds up. . .
Beyond knitting, I want to experiment more with my new Eversewn sewing machine. I’m planning to at least do some quilted pillow covers, more experiments with quilted ties, mend my favorite jacket, and maybe try making a button up shirt. My main skills goal is to become more familiar with different kinds of fabric and how best to use them.
Hillary
I am determined to knit a sweater this year! I have some of our lovely Biggo yarn in Brass Heather that I set aside months ago to make a sweater. The thought of starting a sweater is daunting, but my wonderful coworkers have assured me that it is totally doable and actually enjoyable!
Hannah
Last year I focused on plain wardrobe staples, this year I’m taking the same idea in a different direction by knitting myself a statement wrap. I’ve got the Flidais Stole squarely in my sights as my ideal, timeless accessory. Wish me luck!
Stacey
I’d like to take my crochet skills to the next level – I’m confident doing easy projects like granny square blankets, but making garments and accessories that actually fit a human is my next goal!
Alexis
I’m going to be trying my hand at using smaller yarn weights (fingering) by attempting to make socks. Hopefully, with the help of some in-house gurus, I will be slipping and sliding all over my house in hand knit socks by spring. If it goes well, I might try some hand dyeing, too.
Erica
I really want to bring some sort of order to the chaos that is my yarn stash and project list. I guess that means working through the projects I have going currently and not getting distracted by all the shiny new things in our office, but … that’s easier said than done!
Kate
I’d like to make my first sweater. I’m thinking something with a silhouette like the Faela, knit in a single color like Color Mist Tidewater. If I’m being completely honest with myself though, I’ll probably end up spending more time making cute hats and cat mats for my family’s new rescued kitten, Sushi.
Here’s hoping 2019 is filled with endless skeins, bottomless cups of tea, and nimble fingers. Happy New Year!

New Year's Eve in St. Petersburg, FL
Happy New Year!
Originally published on 1/20/2020
Hello, all! Happy New Year to you. I hope your holidays were wonderful, and I wish you lots of light and a prosperous year to come. I had hoped to get my Nocturne Alchemy Holiday order reviews up in December, but I got so busy after Thanksgiving that it didn't happen, and I am sorry for that. I rarely make resolutions, but I do try to set goals for myself, and this year I want to be more organized about writing, including here at Zombiiesque. (Plus, I am overdue for a little redesign for both sites, so that's another goal!) I am going to get my second post in the seasonal series up this month, NA for winter.
But I'd like to talk about some of my favorite perfumes from Nocturne Alchemy for 2019, a look back. It was a stellar year of releases, including some PC (Permanent Collection) releases, and a good bit of additions to the SL (Studio Limited) section, which has always been one of my favorite sections of their catalogue! I will also be including perfumes that I had rediscovered in 2019 after socking them away to age, as there were many that really delighted after some time to sit.
I'll start out though, with the seasonal offerings that I loved. The year for NA started after a little break, as it will this year, with the Valentine, and Valentine Resurgence, LCs (Limited Collections). By the way, you can find the entirety of the LC releases and the notes over at the Nocturne Alchemy LC Archives, if you ever need them! From the Resurgence, I have and love Vanilla Wedding Cake - I usually shy away from the more gourmand perfumes, but I find myself opening up to those more and more, because NA is really wooing me with what are, for me, very wearable gourmands - and if you've been reading Zombiiesque for any length of time, it's obvious my wheelhouse are the woods/resins/incense/musks. This year they came out with two new things that I found extremely intriguing, the NA Bunnies, and the Candied series. I actually did some swapping to get my Valentine perfumes, which is always fun, and wound up with Speckle Bunny, Star Bunny, and Midnite Bunny. I originally got a sample of Midnite Bunny, and didn't know if I was going to care for it, as sometimes spices can go seriously awry on me, but wow, it knocked me off my feet. It's SEXY. I love all three Bunnies that I got, but Midnite Bunny was the surprise hit for me. And I wound up with a full sized Candied Egyptian Musk, and a sample of Candied Crimson - and those are both glorious! I think I would probably love the frankincense, myrrh, and sandalwood variations, too, but those two musks are just beautiful. This collection also saw the Bastet’s Ice Cream bois d’epices et de crème, which was new. I received a sample of the Teak & Sandalwood, and I thought it might be something that would smell great on a man. So I made my fiance experiment with it - and W O W. Also wound up going back and buying a full sized bottle for him because it was just jaw dropping - if you have the opportunity to try this out (on your guy, or yourself if you are a guy reading this) I highly recommend it. It works on me too, but it is just perfection on him.
Sadly, I missed out on both of the Spring LCs, but I was wearing a lot of the Art of Love/Art of Literature , and falling for them all over again. Those were huge collections, and an absolute treasure trove of wonderful scents - Enigma, Overseer, Pandora, Music, Ophelia, Holy Grail....the list goes on and on. I also wore the Bunnies and Candied Crimson/Candied Egyptian Musk long into spring, as well as some of my beloved PCs.
July brought the Summer LC collections, and Oh. My. Gods, the beginning of the Eternal Egypt Anniversary collection. As Eternal Egypt is one of my desert island scents, I was....a little obsessed. I have three of the first round, EE Vanille, Santal, and Ambre, and adore all three, huge favorites this year. Still wearing them well into winter. They also did the Eternal Summer subcollection, and my other favorite was absolutely Eternal Egypt Summer and I wore it so, so much. Sublime. Really a stunner of a chypre! I also have really loved so much of the Summer Teas and Tea Service, and have written about so many of them. They are constantly in rotation in the summer for me, especially, of course, my beloved Green Tea Crimson, and this summer was no exception, as it's also one of my fiance's favorites. But they also came out with some new offerings and of those I got Chamomile, Vanilla, & Spice Tea, which sounded very intriguing - and Agave Nectar from the Tea Service. Highly recommend them both, and they pair absolutely perfectly together! I also had missed Apricot Sugar the year before, and my best friend, who is also my skin twin, loved that one so much, I made sure to pick it up from the Resurgence. Whew, am I glad I did - I love it with literally everything I have tried. It's extremely versatile, and so beautiful.
September, Bastet's Bazaar came rolling in - and I was swept off my feet by her ChakRA collection. Oh, if I had only been able to get the whole thing! I would have loved to do it. I managed to get three of these - Ajna, the dark blue one, Svadhishthana, the orange, and Muladhara, the red. Truly all three ChakRAs I have are fantastic, absolute perfection. Wonderful for meditation. And they continued the Eternal Egypt Anniversary celebration with Bastet's Bazaar, so I grabbed Eternal Egypt Incense - and I. Freaking. Love. IT! Might...just might...be my favorite of all of them. But it's hard to choose.
Okay, with that we are falling headlong into my favorite collection of the year, NAlloween. Pfffft no self restraint, and I loved everything I grabbed. I rediscovered V by Thoth, and it had aged into something so, so swoonworthy. And my bottle of The Mummy Returns - it, too, had changed so much. I loved it fresh, but aged? I was completely obsessed and wore it so much this fall. I was able to grab Pirate Rum for my fiance, as his absolute favorite scent by NA is Ghost Ship, and they have a similar vibe, although they're different. Can absolutely report that Pirate Rum is fantastic on him, also. Scarlet Bat from last year also got a lot of love, and as a matter of fact I just wore it again for the end of the year. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention Seth's Sleepyceratops, I wore this all year this year, and it is a wonderful sleep scent. But I haven't even touched on the new Halloween release, and....I just went for it. I got Blood, Blackout, Blood Queen, Moonsand, Mummy's Spirit, and Skeletonic....all were huge wins for me. And of course, the fan favorite this year was Vampire Bourbon Patchouli Bat - whew. It was a DO NOT MISS. Absolute perfection, and very worthy of being a fan favorite! The sample they gave out this year was for the PC offering, they do a new Halloween scent every year, and Halloween 2020 is just not to be missed. Seriously, what stellar fall offering. I loved every single one of my choices!
The Holiday collection is probably my second favorite of the year. Last year, they came out with the two Copals - Vanilla and Sandalwood - and they were instant fan favorites. I knew I was going to love them both, so I did grab them last year, but I was not prepared for how much MORE beautiful they had become with age! Unfh. So those both got a lot of wear starting in November for me, and I wore Sandalwood Copal for New Year's Day, too. From the Resurgence collection, though, I really fell for Holiday Rex this year, hatching it with several vanillas and finding it was perfect every time. Vampire Cardamom Bat was a surprise hit for me last year, and I found myself reaching for it so many times this year. It's such a snuggly scent. I have to tell y'all, I missed out on Cherry Bourbon Vanille last year, and I regretted not grabbing it, so I definitely went back for it, and it became a surprise favorite this year. I love that tobacco note! It's so beautiful. That brings me into the new Holiday LC release, and ... wow, there was so much that sounded like perfection, so I kinda threw myself headfirst into it and did not have a single miss. I picked up, and love, Crystalline Chai, Vanilla Dreams, Private Universe, and Royal Elephant. Vanilla Dreams is an amazing, cozy, sleep scent. Crystalline Chai feels like snuggling in a comfy chair with a throw blanket, with snow falling outside. Yep, it really gave me quite a visual response! And of course, the last two Eternal Egypt Anniversaries came out - EE Frankincense, and EE Myrrh. Had to get them both, and I am so glad I did - they are lovely worn on opposite wrists, and lovely layered together.
Okay. Whew! That's just the LCs, y'all. And I .... I love them all. So maybe I will break this into a second part, to talk about my PC loves from 2019 tomorrow. I'd hate to overwhelm y'all!

I must ask for Simon and Klavier shenanigans with number 53. They aren't even drunk. Klavier just wants company from his favorite bro and he's bored.
53. “Who crawls through someone’s window at 4am to go for ice cream?!”
Send me a number and a pairing!
-----
Klaviercouldn’t sleep.
Whichwas, of course, particularly annoying since he had been working all day andeven passed up going out that night in order to try and get some much-neededrest. Unfortunately, even though he hadalmost fallen asleep at his desk hours before while at work, he found himselfwide awake as soon as his head hit his pillow.
Hespent some time tossing and turning, and even convinced himself that he wasactually sleeping at one point when really all he was doing was forcing hiseyes closed (though, wasn’t that what sleeping really was anyway…he ponderedthis thought for a bit too long). At aroundone-thirty in the morning, he tried turning on the television, hoping thatmaybe he could strain his eyes enough to force himself into sleep. That didn’t work, and he watched a shamefulamount of infomercials…would awearable towel make drying off after showering easier?
Soon,he found himself having a ridiculous craving for ice cream that he couldn’tpossibly ignore or will away.
Andthere is nothing worse than having a craving for something in particular andfinding none of it in the freezer.
Well, that won’t do. Klavier knew there was a 24-hour placenearby, but found himself searching through his phone to find a potentialpartner in his hunt…forgetting (or disregarding the fact) that it was afterthree in the morning, at this rate. Hehad been finding himself feeling more and more alone since certain partiesdecided to abscond to Khura’in, and thus wanted company more often thannot. This was no exception.
Plus, he was just bored. What fun was a (well-past) midnight ice creamrun without someone to share it with?
When he got to a particular name, he pressedthe call button, hoping to get an answer.
“Leave a message. I probably won’t listen to it.”
Klavier had been telling Simon he should bemore cordial in his voicemail greeting, but Simon had refused to changeit. Regardless, the fact that it hadgone straight to voicemail meant that Simon had turned it off.
That won’t do.
Now that Klavier had it in his head that thisnight was meant for ice cream with Simon Blackquill, there was no other optionthan to just go by the man’s apartment and knock on his door.
And after a quick ride on his motorcycle, hewas doing just that.
Simon’s doorbell wasn’t working, apparently, soKlavier had tried knocking a few times. No answer…unsurprisingly. Simonhad trouble falling asleep and staying asleep sometimes due to dreams andmemories, but when he was in a deepsleep, it was apparently almost impossible to wake him. After having slept in a noisy prison for solong, he had been conditioned to no longer find outside noises disruptive.
But Klavier Gavin did not give up easily.
Simon’s apartment was on the third floor of thebuilding, so Klavier didn’t want to risk anything by employing the old “tossingrocks at the window” routine. But, henoticed that if he could somehow reach the ladder of the fire escape, he wouldbe able to climb that right to Simon’s bedroom window.
Thank god no one was around to see what camenext: the famed Prosecutor Gavin, beloved rock star of both music and thecourtroom, failing miserably as he tried to jump up and reach the ladder.
And then said Prosecutor Gavin grabbing thenearest trash cans to try and use them for some added height.
He fell a few times, but eventually jumped uphigh enough off the cans to grab onto the last rung of the ladder and pullhimself up.
The rest was just a quick walk up to Simon’swindow.
When he got to his destination, he was able tosomewhat make out the outline of Simon sleeping in his bed. He tried knocking on the window but even thathad zero effect.
He wondered…
Klavier grabbed the bottom of the window andpulled up, surprised to find it unlocked. But once it was opened, he crawled through, getting one of his legsthrough and then his head and then-
An ear-piercing screech.
Klavier’s hands went to his ears, and whathappened next was so fast; did HerrBlackquill always move that quickly?
Because he was soon staring down the edge of ablade.
Simon’s hair was out of its ponytail and wild, his bangs covering his eyes a bit, making it even more difficult for him to seein the darkened room. All he could makeout was the silhouette of an intruder that Taka had so graciously warned himabout.
“Ah, Simon, it’s me!” Klavier smiled nervously, eyes traveling fromSimon’s face to the blade pointed at him so threateningly.
“What the-”
Simon shook his head a little so that his hairshifted out of his vision, and he blinked a few times in order to try and seeclearer. When he finally was able tomake out the features of this silhouette as belonging to Klavier Gavin, helowered his katana…though his glare did not soften at all.
“Klavier. What are you doing? Do you know what time it is?”
Klavier finished climbing through the windownow that he was no longer under immediate threat, and dusted himself off, smiling as if there was nothing at allstrange about this situation.
“You really ought to lock your windows, youknow. And get that doorbell fixed.”
“Klavier.”
“And who turns off their phone in the middle ofthe night? What if this had been an emergency?”
“It betterbe an emergency for your sake, Gavin-dono,” Simon growled, using a more formaladdress that time.
“But of course! You know how I was exhausted allday today? Well, it turns out that afterI got home, I must have been-”
“The cliff-notes version,” Simon interrupted.
“Well, I couldn’t sleep. And then I had a craving for ice cream andcompany. But I had neither. So I thought we could go get some, right now.”
Simon said nothing for a few moments, juststaring at Klavier in disbelief.
“Who crawls through someone’s window at 4 AM togo for ice cream?!”
“Me, obviously,” Klavier answered, not evenmissing a beat.
“The only thing that is keeping me fromstrangling you right here and now, Klavier, is my desire to never return toprison again,” Simon said while sheathing his blade and putting it off to theside.
“And your just absolute love for me, of course,”Klavier teased.
“But of course,”was Simon’s utterly sarcastic reply.
Simon groaned and rubbed his eyes, moving fromhis bedroom to the living room, with Klavier tailing behind him closely.
“So how about it? You, me, a midnight snack run?”
“It’s far past midnight,” Simon said, moving tohis kitchen.
“It’s an expression,Herr Blackquill.”
Simon said nothing, but opened his freezer andrummaged around in it for a few seconds. When he emerged, he had a large carton of chocolate-chip ice cream. He opened it, grabbed a spoon from a drawer, and jammed the spoon into the treat before shoving the carton in Klavier’shands.
And then he made his way back to his bedroom.
Klavier followed again.
“You know, not that I don’t appreciate this but…atthis point I was kind of hoping for the adventure, ja?” He pouted a bit as hewatched Simon climb back into bed and pull the covers over himself. Taka had already gone back to sleep afterrealizing Klavier was not at all a threat.
“In themorning, alright? I’ll play with youin the morning, Klavier.”
“…Technically it is the morning, you know thatright?”
“Don’t be a goddamn smartass.”
“…Can I stay here?”
Simon didn’t say anything, but did just reachover and pull his blanket down on the other side of his bed, indicating thatKlavier should get in. Of course, ittook very little time for Klavier to do so, still holding his ice cream as heslid in next to Simon.
“If you spill any of that in here, you’rewashing my bedding tomorrow, understand?”
“Ja, ja,of course,” Klavier replied with a mouthful of delicious ice cream.
#ace attorney#simon blackquill#klavier gavin#simon and klavier#klavquill#(it isn't necessarily shippy but it could be read as such!)#my writings#dfhsjkf SO I JUST LOVE THE IDEA OF SIMON BEING ANNOYED BUT STILL SEMI-COMPLYING WITH THINGS KLAV WANTS#also Simon doesn't lock his windows cause intruders get smacked DOWN#these two are ridiculous and I love it#ALSO A SIMON-KLAV THING WITHOUT ANGST?? Best Swaddle Blankets For Your Baby
My first baby didn't take care of swaddling. We swaddled him dutifully for the first few weeks as a result of that is merely what we thought we have been alleged to do. (I bet if a nurse at the hospital had caught a self-adhesive Christmas bow on his smooth spot I might saved on doing that too.) We gave up on swaddling pretty shortly, although, as a result of we simply didn't have any blankets to swaddle him with. For best swaddle blankets, well muslin swaddle blanket follow the link here.
If the advantages are so numerous, why do not more mother and father swaddle their infants? It can be a challenge to learn to swaddle a child correctly utilizing a typical blanket. The blanket have to be tight enough to stay fixed and make the child really feel secure, and yet loose sufficient in order that the toddler would not develop into overheated. As soon as a child begins shifting around, he typically kicks off his blanket, and a loose blanket within the crib can enhance the chance of SIDS. And most receiving blankets aren't massive sufficient to correctly swaddle a rising infant after a couple of months or even weeks.
Best Swaddle Blankets;
Receiving best swaddle blankets are a staple in a baby's world. They are an all-purpose blanket made from light-weight materials reminiscent of thermal waffle, polyester, fleece, muslins, flannel, and extra eco-pleasant choices akin to natural cotton or bamboo. They are both sq. or rectangular in form and will not be overly thick so that they can be easily wrapped across the child to assist preserve their body warmth. Newborns need to preserve their caloric consumption for weight achieve and may waste calories sustaining their own fragile temperatures.
Tangential, but I am fascinated by Caitlyn's child! I've all the time loved sleeping beneath heavy, heavy quilts (down comforters are wasted on me) however I hate the constriction of sleeping luggage. I am completely going to ask my husband to bury me in dried beans.
My son peed through all the pieces pretty usually the primary few weeks, so having enough items to wash and wear simultaneously was necessary. Newborns sleep on a regular basis in order that they're principally swaddled always. Then only during naps and sleep. This was our experience, I'm certain everybody choses in a different way based mostly on what their child likes.
Whereas swaddling prevents Sudden Infant Dying Syndrome (SIDS), it may also put it on the market. Confused? If you do not swaddle the child properly, and the folds are too close to the newborn's neck (thereby obstructing the windpipe), there are possibilities of SIDS. So just be sure you're swaddling the newborn accurately and leaving enough room close to the neck region.
Swaddling is practiced widely in hospital nurseries, and oldsters in nations comparable to Albania, Turkey and Afghanistan have used traditional swaddling strategies for generations. These strategies usually embrace particular swaddling clothes and bands, or several cloths positioned in a specific technique to keep the baby secure.
Being such good, huge and comfortable blankets, they're good for functions other than simply swaddling. I additionally like them for being out and about in the stroller or car seat, and they're nice for nursing or tummy time. Among the finest swaddle blankets you'll discover!
I used the hospital receiving blankets to swaddle my first son (6.5 pounds) and only from the chest down after the first couple of weeks. And we've got a couple stretchy waffle-weave blankets which are superior for swaddling, imo. A budget receiving blankets were good for tossing over the kids within the carseat in the summer. Generally the a/c is just a little much for the little ones but a bunting is way an excessive amount of. I was actually tempted to get a Miracle blanket for my 2nd son (10 kilos). I used to be given one as a present and a Swaddle Me as well. My 2nd son HATED both of them with a a fiery ardour. OMG! He hated them a lot. Both my boys principally simply wanted their legs swaddled as they liked to sleep with their arms raised. Swaddling the arms after a couple weeks was met with angry screaming child.
As soon as your toddler is past the swaddling stage, a wearable blanket (also referred to as a sleep sack or child sleeping bag) is extremely beneficial as a substitute of loose blankets, again due to the suffocation hazard the blanket can pose.
One other wonderful thing about these muslin swaddle blankets is that it comes with a foot pouch on the backside that's snug and yet stays comfy. It may be very tough to kick themselves out of the blanket and the arm flaps help safe their arms. This helps cease your baby from making facial scratches or make sudden actions (such because the startle reflex) that will solely wake them up and interrupt with their sleep. Most significantly, you would not have to deal with Velcro straps which may be very disturbing while you try to make diaper modifications in the midst of the night.
Now, what does this blanket have that makes it a true miracle? We aren't fairly certain both but it surely's in all probability the mixture of comfortable swaddling and a few belly stress that helps soothe them. Possibly this makes them really feel like they are nonetheless inside their mother's womb? Most certainly. However, whatever the reason is, we love that it works!
At first glance, the Woombie swaddle seems very tight and small but you'll have to remind yourself that infants come from the womb which might be snugger and tighter. Don't worry, your baby is within the excellent place and the comfy feeling is actually what helps soothe them and get them to sleep longer.
He did really begin busting out of that eventually, though, and we ended up getting the Halo Sleep Sack Swaddles. I beloved them. They can be utilized as a sleep sack, or they've this piece of cloth you wrap around their arms and fasten with a huge piece of velcro - there is not any getting out of it. Our son loved them, and so did we. We used them till he was about 6 months outdated, till he started rolling over in his sleep. The day we stopped swaddling was a sad day in our house.
All a budget flannel receiving blankets I've are rectangular - WTF? Fortuitously an older good friend of ours has a friend with a serger stitching machine, and she simply buys a yard of flannel (usually on sale at Joann for $2 or so) and serges the perimeters to make one GINORMOUS square swaddle blanket (forty eight x 48 inches, baby!). Our pal sent us 5, and we used them in constant rotation, and now I order a set as my customary baby shower reward for pregnant associates.
Numerous babies lose their capacity of arousal if they are swaddled for too lengthy. This implies they wouldn't know when to get up. While many parents need their babies to get a great sleep, babies must be swaddled for a restricted time only.
My second was a cranky newborn and I did not know what to do about it. My mother purchased me a bundle of swaddling blankets they usually utterly changed my life! I only had two and we used them until she outgrew them so a number of months. I plan on having 2 on hand with this one just in case she prefer to be swaddled.
Regardless, we still imagine that the Summer season Infant swaddles are great. They are not product of thick material so they aren't essentially the most best for use through the winter months but they're awesome in the course of the summer season. Some mothers actually nonetheless use it during winter and so they like it as a result of it keeps their infants warm sufficient however the materials is breathable and prevents warmth rash. They are undoubtedly nice for use on infants who are nonetheless a few weeks previous to a few months old.
I swore we have been going to send my older son to school with a twin sheet and instructions for his roommate. He is three and nonetheless likes piles of covers, which I think give him that very same feeling. My younger son is 8 months and only sleeps swaddled. We have flannel large blankets (from Goal) however I'm considering of getting the muslin ones for the summer season.
The snuggle sleeved knitted blankets are very comfy. It doesn't limit the actions of the infant's fingers and the infant can sleep comfortably. Additionally they are available varied animal shapes like rabbits, mouse or cats, and your child seems completely lovable.
Now, what's there to love concerning the Woombie swaddle? Properly, for starters, it's great for newborns as it offers among the many most comfortable fit. The material stretches and moves with the infant and but remains cosy and tight to create a womb-like environment, as if they're being snuggled and held.
I used to be in a position to use the cheapie receiving blankets for a few month after my first was born (four lb eight oz, so DUH!) however when my second (eight lb 10 oz, OUCHHHHHH) was born, I've no disgrace in admitting that I totally STOLE receiving blankets from the hospital. Oh yes I did. They're so much greater than those you purchase within the bundle, and so they had been already nice and worn in. I by no means purchased an actual swaddling blanket, and the three pilfered hospital blankets labored until she was about three months, when she instantly determined she HATED being swaddled.
Touted because the world's most pediatrician recommended swaddle blanket, the miracle blanket is extremely common. Constructed from 100% cotton, it is suitable for year spherical and one measurement suits all as much as the age of 14 weeks. The miracle blanket is designed that will help you create the right swaddle each time that your toddler won't escape of.
Trim the best swaddle blankets sides so they're square and straight. Then fold over an edge, by say 1/four or half of inch. You'll be able to either iron the fold in place, or fold it as you sew. Use the zigzag sew in your machine (99% of sewing machines have a zigzag stitch, even the cheap ones) to c over the uncooked edge of the material. That is quicker and simpler than an actual hem and I think higher for blankets anyway. Repeat for the other three sides. Ta-da! Finished blanket.

"Crocheting and knitting have always been extremely therapeutic for me. After a hectic day, I always try and find some time to pick up my needles or hook to work on a project. Typically I have at least 2 projects on the go: one crochet and one knit. One has to be a simple, repetitive project that I can work on without focusing or concentrating too much, for example the granite/moss stitch (like my Granite Cape: http://www.allaboutami.com/thegranitecape/) or working star stitches in a round (like my Star Stitch Pouches: http://www.allaboutami.com/starstitchpouches/ ). This will be my go-to project when I’m a passenger in the car (if it’s too complicated or requires counting, I get dizzy) or when I’m watching a show with my husband at night so I don’t need focus on what I’m doing. Designs that require more complex shaping and potentially lots of frogging (e.g. amigurumi) are left for when I have more energy, when interruptions will be minimal, and when I can focus! {Excerpt from my Serenity Seed Stitch Cowl blog post}: “The “Serenity Seed Stitch Cowl” will always hold a special place in my heart as this was the project that I was working on during a hospital visit for Ryan. As my needles fell into a soothing rhythm, God granted me insurmountable peace as I prayed while knitting away. This scarf will forever be a reminder to me of the power of prayer, God’s healing hand, to be thankful in all circumstances, and His peace that transcends all understanding. This is the reason why I named this scarf the “Serenity Seed Stitch Cowl“! Our family is all healthy and doing well now, praise God! I ended up working on this project for a couple of months as it was my “don’t need to focus too much” project on the go.” I’ve found knitting in a round to be particularly relaxing and therapeutic. Once you get into that beautiful and repetitive rhythm, the stitches just fly off the needles, and at the end it’s amazing how you get a finished product! I like to pray and meditate on Bible verses or with a worship song while falling into that rhythm, and I definitely feel refreshed afterwards! I try my best to make sure that I never lose that joy or magic of crocheting/knitting since it has become “work” for me. It is such a blessing that I get to make money doing what I love doing: designing, playing with yarn, writing patterns, and sharing stories. I have learned to not take on too many collaborations and commissions at the same time as trying to finish up designs on tight deadlines is stressful, particularly when I am working from home with two young children, and you never know when illness will hit. I got very sick a couple of years ago, and everyone in our family took turns getting sick. There was a deadline looming over me, and I tried to chip away at that design whenever I could. It was such a relief when it was done, and thankfully the team was very understanding when I asked for a deadline extension! I love the flexibility of being able to put down certain projects and start new ones when inspiration hits. Certain moods call for certain projects, and I love challenging myself with a variety of designs, from stuffed animals to wearable items and home décor! That sense of accomplishment you get when you bring a design you had in mind to life will never grow old! When I was pregnant with my first daughter Myla, I crocheted many items for her, including baby hats, a blanket, a sweater, and a bow belt for my maternity photoshoot. It was such a big transition after I gave birth as I had a very rough labour, delivery, and recovery. My body was in shambles and I wasn’t getting more than an hour of sleep at a time. During this time of extreme sleep deprivation and learning how to take care of a newborn, I tried to steal away a few moments when she was napping to pick up my crochet hook. Even if it was just a few rounds at a time, it felt so wonderful to dive back into my beloved crocheting and make something for my sweet little girl (many of the hats I made for her while pregnant ended up being too small)! Before giving birth I always had my to-do lists and I would cross off each item efficiently and with great ease. After giving birth, it was difficult even trying to finish one task, so it greatly helped to have a crochet project on the go that I could pick up and work on a little bit whenever I had a spare moment! I know many women who ended up learning how to knit or crochet after becoming mothers as they wanted to learn a new hobby and make unique items for their little ones!" #HumansThatYarn @AllaboutAmi

Our Knit Picks Staff Dream Projects!
Our staff is passionate about knitting, but there is always some project waiting in our queues that we’d love to have the time or skills to make.
You’re invited to post a comment below and share your own dream projects with us, too. We’d love to see what you aspire to accomplish!
Here are some of the knitting dream projects that we’d like to pursue.
Kate, Administrative Assistant
Gradience Shawl in Stroll Gradient
My goal is to knit my first shawl before the beginning of summer. What I love about the Gradience Shawl is the opportunity to use a brilliant pop of color to accentuate the geometric lines of the piece. The basic lace technique required to make this shawl will be a great test of my ever-developing skills as a knitter. Hopefully, by June I will be frolicking on the coast in my very own Gradience Shawl, feeling accomplished and winning at life!
Hillary, Graphic Designer
Castleton Scarf in Wool of the Andes Bulky
I have only used basic knit stitches to make simple cowls and hats. I think this is a great next project for me to learn some new stitches and techniques. I love the diagonal edges and fun fringe. What also draws me to this project is the wearability. It is warm but not too bulky and will match plenty of my favorite Winter outfits.
Allison, Administrative Assistant
The Mighty Rainbow Blanket in Mighty Stitch Worsted
I am a terrified, but ridiculously excited beginning knitter who’s got the knit stitch down, and my next adventure is going to be a variation of The Mighty Rainbow Blanket by Knit Pick’s own Alison Backus. My four-year-old niece is wild about rainbows and I’ll be using almost all of the colors of our Soft Rainbow Mighty Stitch Sampler and Rainbow Mighty Stitch Sampler together to make what I’m tentatively calling the Mighty Double Rainbow Blanket.
I plan on adding just a little bit more colorwork to transition the colors together (similar to the Crochet Rainbow Blanket seen here, by The Crafty Mummy, which I saw and fell in love with!).
The size of the project makes it feel a little ambitious for a newbie like me, but I’ve been using some junk yarn to practice my technique on a mini version for my cat Gus and it’s going great. I’m hoping that since it’s for my adorable niece Juni, that I will have it ready before her 5th birthday in November!!!
Hannah, Catalog Director
Perfect Harmony Shawl in 100% silk Luminance Lace
From the moment I laid eyes on the In Perfect Harmony shawl it’s held a special “aspirational” space in my queue. I’m not a huge lace knitter (all those charts!) but this shawl has caught my eye and my heart. In addition to the chart intimidation, this beauty is knit in 100% silk Luminance which is a whole other combination of awesome and nerve-wracking. I love the sheen and drape, but there’s no illusion about how fine this yarn is.
One day I’ll push through the jitters, wind a hank of Luminance and actually tackle this magical unicorn project. Until then, I’ll keep it at the top of my Ravelry queue where it will give me a friendly little reminding nudge every time I go through my list.
Daniel, Amazon Director
Eide Pullover in Wool of the Andes
I’ve been coveting the Eide Pullover since it came out when I first started at Knit Picks. I love a good surplice-style collar, and I really want a cabled sweater, but I am just getting to the point where I feel my sweater knitting should be up to it. I’ll probably go for Wool of the Andes in Onyx Heather. Maybe Midnight Heather or Aurora Heather if I’m feeling extravagant.
Stacey, Outreach Director
Chromatic Sweater in Chroma Fingering
A pattern I’ve long wanted to tackle is Chromatic Sweater, but a couple of things have stopped me. First, it’s in Chroma fingering weight and I have a hard enough time finishing sweaters in larger weight yarns! Second, I can decide on the colors I want to use – there are way too many options, even more if I opt to substitute my beloved Hawthorne yarn. So I will gaze fondly at this cute stripey sweater and wait for the perfect time to tackle (and finish) this project.
Jennifer, Brand Director
Wayfarer Mitts
I am a confident beginner, and have yet to try colorwork. I’m dying to make a pair of Wayfarer Mitts, designed by Erica Hauser. (To be honest, I love all of her patterns!) Although I often just jump into the deep end with new techniques, I have decided to hold off on making these until I try a less complicated colorwork project first so I don’t frustrate myself!
Brooke, Graphic Designer
Zig Sweater in Palette
I’m not a super experienced knitter. I’m fabulous at knitting straight flat pieces like scarves or dishcloths, but something complicated like a sweater really intimidates me. I saw the Zig Sweater in Renew (one of our new pattern collections!) and decided I had to dream bigger. With its wide boatneck and big comfy batwing shaped body, this sweater looks like exactly the kind of thing I like to wear when I’m going for a slouchy-but-still-really-cute look. I absolutely adore the lace shoulder panels and think this would be perfect for the breezy springtime weather.
I’m a big fan of how bright and cute the pink and white look together, but I’m not sure how well it goes with the rest of my wardrobe. Since it’s knit in Palette yarn, however, I know that I’ll be able to find the perfect colors to match anything I’d like when I finally acquire the skills to knit it. (Currently working on a knitting a little herringbone pouch in Diadem and learning to knit in the round, so I’m getting closer!)
