I am about to let you all in on a writing tip/secret I kept for myself:
When writing a fight scene, watch actual fights. No not what they do in tv. But actual fights. MMA, Wrestling (Not WWE, we know that the E is more important that’s the Second W for them) and videos on weaponuse.
This may help you visualize how you want a fight to go and if it is actually possible, even if it’s a fantasy (you can add magical elements but there’s always a good point to have it mildly grounded in actual physics and body mechanics.)
For Example, I am writing a lil scuffle for the third part of His “Side Kick In The Chair” No Longer. Pavitr’s movements are inspired by an Indian Martial Art (Kalaripayattu) canonically*.
That led me on a journey to find a weapon that is Spider Man-like, Symbiote- like, adds a pizzazz to a fight like the movements of Pav would already bring and keep the user on the ground (it’ll make sense when I post and you read the fic). And that’s when I found it:
Note: I don’t really count the webs or Pav’s bracelets as weapons because while the webs can inconvenience someone, it can’t really hurt them without the aid of another object i;e at the end of Andrew Garfield’s second spider man move, when he lifts the man hole cover to fling it at Rhino. And imagine getting whacked by a bracelet, I would be too stunned that I got hit with a jewelry store exclusive to put up a fight.
A Rope Dart.

This video is extremely helpful because it shows how the bones and muscles will have to move to make it work and thus, easier to write.
ALSO JUST LOOKAT THE SKILL
*I thought I read or watched it somewhere so don’t take that as gospel.

I understand the reason for COVID restrictions on visitors in hospitals but if a patient has lost the ability to move and keeps losing their ability to speak, they should be allowed a support person to stay with them. How can she use the call light if she can’t lift a finger? How can the nurse ask questions and get answers if she has an episode where her jaw freezes up and inhibits her speech? I’m pissed as HELL because they’ve already been treating her like shit and I had to advocate for her when a doctor tried to release her from the ER when she couldn’t even move her legs, let alone walk. I know the medical system was built on racism and that black women are SOL more often than not but come on. And then y’all have the audacity to look offended when she turns to me as you’re kicking me out to say, “I don’t feel safe here, I need you to stay!” Of fucking COURSE she doesn’t feel safe, you did not listen when she said she couldn’t stand, didn’t pay attention to the fact that she couldn’t even grasp onto your arms or hold herself up when sitting. No, you pulled her onto her feet anyway and when her legs couldn’t hold her, you dropped her back onto the bed halfway with her back arched in such a bad position it’s a miracle it didn’t snap. And even then, as she’s crying out in pain, you fuckers made no hurry to move her, so I had to help get her back on the bed. Like WHAT THE FUCK
If y’all don’t think I’m taking notes of this and will turn it back on your asses, you’re wrong. THIS is why she didn’t want to go to the hospital and why it got this bad in the first fucking place. Y’all fuckers shouldn’t be working in the goddamn medical field if you can’t treat someone with decency and if you can’t understand her terror at being left alone. Istg if anything - anything - happens to her while I’m not there, I am going to sue the SHIT outta you. I will 100% weaponuse my whiteness to take you fucks OUT
