My little 100yo house doesn't have a fireplace somehow, so I make do by turning on the fireplace in my TV (there's two versions on Netflix now- classic and Birchwood) for the same reason. I know it doesn't produce warmth the same way but in the winter it still feels like it does.

Hate how lighting a candle does wonders to my mood. Like wowwww. Grug like fire? Grug not sad anymore because Fire in Cave? Wow. Real predictable of Grug.

SMERALDO GARDEN MARCHING BAND

My thoughts prior to the release of MUSE. I've avoided pretty much all reactions and analysis posts until I finished this so I have no clue if anyone else has come up with better words to describe some of these concepts but here's my take on it. I wanted to get this out prior to MUSE so that I can see how my view evolves with further context but here's where I am now.

Initial Reaction:

I'd actually had a few issues that night so I wasn't in the best headspace to take in a new song but I did listen to it on Spotify first and then watched the mv twice, once without subs and once with. (And yes, I know it's technically not called an mv...deal with it lol)

Anyways, I definitely wasn't immediately sold on it - which is expected from me, it's EXCEEDINGLY rare that I like any song on first listen but SGMB only took a couple of runthroughs before I was on board. One thing that helped me reframe it in my mind and with my previous expectations is to remember the first part of Jimin's self-proclaimed attributes: Cutie, sexy, lovely. SGMB leans very solidly into the cutie aspect, a little near the lovely side but far deeper into Cutie than anything we've seen in his solo releases. (RememberCute was an answer in the seossword puzzle). That got me thinking about where the rest of his songs would be in comparison and here's the placement I've landed on. Some of these have changed over the past few days but I'm curious where y'all disagree with my placements.

Good old Serendipity, a perfect balance of the three in my opinion. All of FACE is firmly in the Sexy section with Like Crazy leaning more evenly into Lovely. Lie is also right there with LC but more closely on the border. My beloved Promise and Letter holding down the Lovely section with CTT straying closer to Cutie. If you forgot about the cutie circle though, SGMB would have seems like it was complete out of the expected range. I am curious if we'll ever get something that's a mix of cutie and sexy, I can't comprehend what that would be like but I wouldn't put it past our JM to find a way!

Theories?

So, how do I think I did with all of my theories? Let's go through them one by one:

Open Locker Meaning: nothing to prove/disprove this yet. There were an awful lot of references to Serendipity in the mv though, so maybe that's the tie-in? I don't know, this one was a streeeeeetch in any case.

Sound Effects Interlude: we know we're getting an interlude but we'll have to wait for MUSE and any behind info to learn if it's sound effects that Jimin recorded himself like Dive.

Rooms Going from Dark to Light: Yes! I mean we knew it was going to be a lighter album than FACE but I think the word BRIGHT is all over SGMB. And I think this technique in both of those videos was trying to highlight that for us.

SGMB as an Actual Band: Yes! Definitely right here too! I'm going to talk about this more below because I think this is actually a very important part of this song.

The Emoji Poll from the Insta Chat: Yes! I think some people are still trying to make the argument that each option is supposed to represent different songs on muse. And while the others may lean more into any of these specifically, SGMB definitely has elements of all of them as well

An Actual Band?

So, like I mentioned in the theory above, I had the thought that SGMB could be portrayed as a fictional band itself, very similar to what MCR did with the Black Parade. And since Jimin decided to use this as the song's title; as well as make it the pre-release track, I think this is an important topic to delve into.

First, this allows Jimin a perspective shift to share with us his career outside the lens of BTS. Not because he NEEDS or WANTS to separate himself from them but he has had his own journey as an artist that may differ from his experiences from the perspective of a BTS member. Obviously BTS is completely woven through this journey and he gives us an acknowledgement of that with the line about 12 June and the handsign.

(Sidenote, whenever I see any of them do that now, I instantly think of that moment in Jimin's pixid ep where he said they don't anymore...I think we may have been misled...) 😝

Second, the frame of SGMB from a band's perspective also puts the song firmly in the categorization of 'work' rather than 'personal'. With FACE being such a deeply personal projectregarding his very deep human experiences, i love that he'svery upfront with us about MUSE being a work project. I've said this before, and it's one of my absolute favorite things about Jimin's music: he crafts it so that we can easily adapt it to our own interpretations. There's a lot of loving and beautiful imagery in the lines of this song that can have special meaning in all levels of relationships; platonic or not. But his delivery if this message to us, is professional. This is reinforced by the suits Jimin has worn in all of the material released so far. He's following a work dress code. ME + US = MUSE

I just want to touch on this briefly here as I expect there'll be more once the album releases but there are some hints already. Like I discussed in my FACE post, Jimin has again come up with some key words to weave through the project. In FACE, it was several sentences but MUSE seems to be focusing on the following:

ME: Jimin himself

US: Jimin's view on his audience

MUSE: His awareness of us and how that effects his creations and manner of artistry.

SGMB and CTT are both bursting with these references and viewpoints. But I honestly don't think of SGMB as a traditional 'fan song'. I have another post where I talk about the different kinds of fan songs. Like I said above, SGMB details Jimin's experience as an artist and how his audience plays into that process. Not like CTT that's literally a diary of our journey with him. Maybe an extremely nuanced take but SGMB just doesn't feel like it belongs in the same 'fan song' categorization that CTT does.

The End for Now

Does anyone know anything about that little hand-wave Jimin does during the bow at the end? He repeats it. Is just an additional flourish that he's added in himself? I've never seen anyone do that during bows after a performance so I'm wondering if it's a cultural/industry thing.

Day 25: Light

The Noticades of Atria seem to be the most popular. After all, they are one of the only bilaterally symmetrical, pseudo-vertebrate lifeforms we see from our experience with the rift. Ancient broadcasting programs imagined alien life as almost all near human, in reality the majority of life we've come across in the broader universe is mats of single celled bacteria closely followed by fractal-shaped animals that more closely resemble plants. Of the complex, mobile animals we’ve seen; we’ve come across far more sea-star, jellyfish, and siphonophore shaped animals than we have anything that looks comparable to a chordate. 

That said, Coleostaceans, or crab-bugs to most, are some of my favorite Atrian animals to discover and study. While they have converged on traits comparable to both insects and crustaceans, they couldn’t be any less related to either. All have 8 limbs with defined segments and joints and a tough, glassy exoskeleton. Each and every species of crab-bug evolved its own unique method of survival that make them the most diverse group of animals on Atria.

The windward side of the highland mountains contain but a small fraction of this diversity, and yet we’ve come across more unique species of crab-bug then anywhere else we’ve been thus far. They gathered around the small lakes and pools carved into the mountain shelves, and swarmed in the branches of the numerous pseudo-trees. It seems like every few minutes a new species with a new adaptation appeared to me. There simply wasn’t enough time to document them all. 

One such crab-bug that particularly intrigued me was a small red beetle whose secondary forelimbs appear to have evolved into an external gas bladder convergent with what we've seen on the multiple ray species. Its secondary hind legs were much longer and tucked up against its apron like the taut legs of a grasshopper. The most impressive part of this crab-bug, however, is the comparably large vent on the end of its abdomen. 

The abdomen itself was like a small laboratory of chemical reactions. Whenever the crab-bug got startled, various compounds within the animal's abdomen would mix creating a rapid exothermic reaction that produced a large amount of waste gas. This would inflate the gas bladder with hot air making it far more buoyant as it would kick off the ground and allow the rest of the gas to escape out its vent propelling it forward like a bullet.  

All of these adaptations to send it flying to escape danger on the ground did nothing to protect it from danger in the air, unfortunately. Just as the crab-bug jettisoned itself away from me, a bird-like animal swooped in to intercept it mid air. This was not the first crab-bug I was studying that it snatched away from me. It seems my presents disturbs the crab-bugs, forcing them from hiding, right into the awaiting jaws of this obnoxious noticlade. 

Its coloration is bright yellow and it's covered in reddish orange eye-spots from head to tail. Fleshy spines adorn the animal making it look like a radiating burst of light. It is taxonomically a fuse-limb species but it also has features comparable to a multitude of rays that we've come across. This species could be what remains of an ancient lineage; potentially from an ancestor of both clades of animal.  

Despite its heritage and, what some could describe as, beauty, this animal is nothing more than a thorn in my side. It essentially fills the same niche as a seagull mixed with the personality of a magpie. It's obnoxious and aggressive, swooping low to take whatever it wants with seemingly no further desire except to annoy me. Even when it was not diving in front of me or looking to grab something from over my shoulder, it served as a major distraction. Its blindingly bright colors and numerous eye spots seemed to act as more of a focal point than a disguise. 

I managed to collect a minute sample from as many species of crab-bug as I could in this area before being driven completely insane. Fortunately, I believe it stayed behind to continue its feast and finally chose to leave me alone. Never before on this mission have I been so close to forgoing a sample from an animal. But I know that, even if it vexes me, it's vital to the ecosystem. All life needs to be protected, no exceptions.

So in Dragon Mom Grian, does Tegg become Free Babysitting™️? Also Grian just… napping with the rest of Boatam around him.

I've had images in my head of Grian making a giant nest in his base and when he's feeling particularly motherly/loving/cuddly [and sometimes a bit lonely], he kidnaps the Boatem Crew and takes them to his nest and holds them close with his wings wrapped around them. they don't mind at all and the five of them just chill out for a time in the nest and cuddle.

[this got a bit long so I'm sticking everything under the "keep reading" line]

as for the babysitting...yes and no.

at first, it's just a game to be played, albeit with a little anxiety on Grian's part and a bit of concern from others about their fellow hermit who's constantly visiting them and asking after the tegg – how's the tegg doing? is it being cared for? mobs can't get to it right? how's the tegg doing? is the area creeper-proof? it hasn't been damaged, right? how's the tegg doing? etc

Grian doesn't fully realize that he's being protective over the tegg – he's sure he's just asking after it because it's the only one in existence and ya know, he has to make sure it's all right because it's the key factor to the game. and he is kind of overseeing the game so there's nothing wrong with asking the players if it's safe, right? of course there isn't!

to the players involved in the tag game, at first they're like, oh, he's just checking in because 1) he's overseeing the game and 2) he just wants to make sure it's okay because it's the only dragon egg in existence. then they notice that the longer a player has it, the more frequent his visits, like every few days or so. the more concerned parties eventually go to a member of Boatem and are like "hey, is Grian all right? he seems a bit anxious?" and the Boatem member is just like "yeah, G's developed some motherly instincts towards the egg but don't worry, folks, everything's fine and he'll get better once the game is over"

then the game ends and Grian gets the egg back and he seems a bit more normal, though, he does spend a lot more time at his base. Boatem notices that his protective instincts seem to evolve to where he's watching over their village more and that he kind of follows any visitors around. they're at first like "huh, that's weird" then after a couple incidents where one or so members get hurt, they realize that "oh, his instincts don't only care about the egg but us as well, neat! we've got our own personal guardian angel watching over us."

Grian notices a change in himself eventually, though, it takes the Boatem Crew to bring his protectiveness to light. after he's like "huh, this is weird, since when did I become such a mom?" he accepts it after some time but sometimes, the instincts are a bit much – examples include but not limited to...

he has to gather resources but he doesn't want to leave the egg alone, he knows it's safe but still...what if it's not? [this is where babysitters will come into play]

pulling the Boatem Crew out of danger should they be in it, or getting in the way and protecting them while getting rid of the danger

stalking any visitors from a distance and sometimes swooping down on them from above should they be doing anything deemed a threat [ex: Evil X trying to set up a cryptocurrency derpcoin notice board near their portal].

the near-constant need for cuddles. at first, he doesn't realize he wants cuddles until sometime later when he's giving Scar or Mumbo a hug, then he's like "oh...this is really nice actually, we should hug more often". cuddle sessions become a regular thing in Boatem – usually after one of them [mostly Scar] respawns but also just as a weekly/bi-weekly slumber party.

and now babysitting – only with a select few are chosen to watch over the egg when Grian has to do some resource gathering/adventure stuff. it's not that he doesn't trust everyone on the Hermitcraft server, it's only that he trusts some more than others with watching over his precious egg. these people are: Impulse, Pearl, Bdubs, Gem, Joe and Cleo, Doc and Ren, Iskall, and TFC.

he finds that they all make wonderful babysitters and they treat it as though it's more than just an egg, like maybe it's actually Grian's child or smth?

Impulse teaches the egg about making candy and sings the Candyman theme song thing to it

Pearl gives it llama rides or carries it in a kangaroo-esque pouch when she's pranking people. she'll also share stories about the old Evo days and stories about Grian being a bit of a menace (affectionate).

Joe reads the egg poetry and Cleo teaches it about armor stands.

Gem carries it around in her antlers while she builds because she needs her hands to work and she believes it likes to feel tall – she has a special harness/pouch she uses so that it's safe from falling.

TFC takes the egg into the mines with him and has a special basket installed onto his minecarts so that he can talk to it while he works without it being in the way. he usually talks about either some adventures he's had or about the different ores/resources that can be found in the mines.

Iskall has a backpack that he wears and he'll talk to the egg while he terraforms since Etho's always doing his own thing. he also likes to take it to the very top of the base and show it the amazing view.

Bdubs has a special moss hoodie that's made with a pouch so that he can carry the egg around and teach it about horse breeding and pretty redstone. if he's babysitting at night, he will tuck it into a bed and read it a story.

Doc also carries it around in a pouch-harness thing that he straps to his chest and he talks through any redstone issues in the way a coder uses a rubber duck – he already uses the harness thing to carry baby goats with him while he works so why not use it for the egg too?

Ren finds that the babysitting is a great opportunity for a day off – he'll either nap in the rv with it or he'll chill out with it on the beach next to the rv. sometimes Renbob visits and the two of them will make flower crowns together and cover the egg in flowers.

So I've seen a bunch of weird ideas. Hagakure becoming a living strobe light. Ojiro gaining the raccoon tail from Mario Kart. Bakugo being able to explode from any body part. Jiro gaining the ability to make soundwaves. Bunch o' wierd shit. SO, with that in mind, here's an odd one: if each of 1A's Quirks could evolve to gain a new ability, what should they be? Keep in mind this is just hypothetical shit for fun.

I'm not sure if I could cover that, even as a hypothetical. Quirks don't really gain new abilities. Each Quirk is a single power and it falls to the user to train and expand that power to the best of their abilities. Quirks don't suddenly gain a new ability. They might expand their limitations, lessen drawbacks, find new ways to use it, or discover more about how the power functions then they initially thought. However, users don't spontaneously get a new ability just from training. Unless your Izuku, but that's besides the point. There can be brief jumps in capabilities, like we've seen with characters undergoing immense emotional stress or near death experiences, but that doesn't grant new powers, just temporarily expands the abilities of the Quirk. Stuff like that either happens with Awakenings, which I don't like to cover, or under the effects of Trigger, which I've already talked about. So that seems more like what you want rather then something that can happen with a Quirk normally.

Tears and Tree Frog Fingers: Notes on Grief

There is a disquieting weight to grief. It follows wherever my husband and I are. It quadruples when we're in the same room. This deluge of gravity offers the near promise of dragging the walls and ceiling and furniture inward onto us both. To implode our house, the house that is suddenly too big and too silent. To crush the bodies we never thought could be so fragile.

I can't help but wonder if this weight is what I felt missing from Adeline once she was gone. She was too light. The heft of her enormous personality and her fighting spirit and all the love we poured over her was missing. Her tiny hand that had affectionately wandered across my skin and tangled itself in her daddy's chest hair went feather-light. I instantly longed for all the intention in the grasp of her tree frog fingers.

I have done nothing but long for her since. I am cloudy and unfocused. Nothing means what it used to.

There is no counterpart to an orphan. No real term for parents whose child has died. The internet calls us "Loss Parents." I'm a Loss Mom and my husband is a Loss Dad. We have been orphaned by the loss of our daughter. 

She died, and we were unceremoniously shoved through the back doors of a club we never wanted to enter. In point of fact, we never even considered we might find ourselves anywhere near it. It is a place in the periphery. It exists in the obscurity of averted eyes and the endlessly perpetuated notion of impossibility. Only ever visited by someone four or five or eight degrees removed from the person sparing it a glance. Never them. Never us.

We live now in this dark place, lit solely by the broken hearts of other Loss Parents. We wander amongst one another. We feel the brush of sad, empathetic fingers as we pass. As we weep and howl facts about our little girl and her tree frog fingers into the dark. As we pray someone will hear us and remember her with us.

Some of our friends and family visit. We touch their hands through the marred glass. We beg them not to be afraid to come back. We beg them to be gentle with us. We beg them to say Adeline's name for as long as they live. Because we will.

When the doctors came out of surgery, they told us to follow them to a small room for families who need quiet. But I knew they did not mean us. The families whose babies and children were going to live needed protection from us, from our grief. I told them I didn't want to go. I went anyway.

The nurse sat beside us. The two doctors sat across from us. The matter-of-fact one, more gregarious and acclimated than the taller one, said what I naïvely thought he still might not say. Even in this small room meant to insulate passersby. 

"I'm so sorry. I wish there was more we could do."

I screamed and wailed and sobbed until I thought my chest would shatter. I thought my lungs would crack and disintegrate. I thought my heart would splinter and burst. I was a hand grenade. Every three seconds I was certain I would detonate. Every three seconds I didn't. I was just three seconds closer to being forced to live in a world without my daughter. 

The matter-of-fact, gregarious doctor was telling us how Adeline's room would be staged when we were ready to go back in. He was telling us how we could hold her as long as we wanted, how they would ensure she was comfortable while we tried to convey a lifetime of love before she slipped away. Before the heft of her transformed into this implosive gravity. Before the rarer form of this bastard of an infection she never should have contracted forced her to orphan us.

I don't make wishes anymore. I used to. All the times you learn to as a child. When the clock hits 11:11, when you see a shooting star, when you blow out your birthday candles. I held my breath against panicked gulps of air and worried sobs in every tunnel I drove through on the way to her that last day. I held my breath and I made my wishes. The wish I wished the hardest would not come true. Our baby girl was stolen from us little more than twelve hours after the bastard of an infection began. So, wishing is a reflex I am unlearning. 11:11 is just a time, shooting stars are just burning space trash, and birthday candles just serve to make cakes a little prettier. I have no more breath to hold in tunnels.

Our daughter was our oxygen. We have been forced to try and evolve into the kinds of creatures who can manage without. For us, looking forward or back delivers only pain. There is a sliver of time, a scant twenty-five to twenty-six days, that must somehow sustain us for a lifetime. That was what those twenty-six days were. Her lifetime.

We have so much more love to give her. Because she is no longer here to receive it directly, it, too, is forced to evolve. It takes shape in our grief, in our tears, in the laughter we find when telling someone about the stink-eye she gave the nurses or the way she would stand her tiny diapered butt in the air when she felt excited and indignant. Our love has nowhere to flow but out into the world now. All we can do is beg you to receive it.

Hypnotism. Used to force MC into sleep. Seemingly until he wanted her to wake up or lost control of the ability?? Used for the next power, but also in Aquarium Date to prevent her from hearing his conversation.

Induced/shared thoughts/dreams/memories. Used to show MC when she first met Lucien when they were children, used to show MC the car accident that killed his parents and nearly killed him, preventing him from meeting up with her as promised the following day. May just be a sort of mental access point in general, as MC was able to speak to her childhood self, said childhood self was also able to acknowledge Lucien. Cannot force MC to remember anything, as MC doesn't recognize herself, him, or the location they met(which they were also ohysically at in real life.) Nearly uses it on MC while she was in the hospital? Needs to touch the person's head to use it on them???

Teleportation??? Used to leave hospital after speaking to Victor. Can also warp others away--doing so envelops them in a bright white light and sends them wherever he chooses? He touches MC when he does this, but forces the Black Swan agents reporting to him to disappear without contact with them. Also used to eliminate Josie, however this was without light and he simply made her fade away--implicitly to another dimension. Based on her fear of returning to that place, it's not great. He also used it to remove Josie from a dimension she was in(that he wasn't in??? MC and Gavin were with Josie there, and when she was removed much of the effects of the dimension stopped, leaving an empty room that floated through several dimensions) and bring her to him.

Light Manipulation? Transforms light into some sort of physical material and causes it to shatter into sharp, suspended shards that he can move at will. Used to impale his own eye to prove his "ruthlessness" to a Black Swan superior. Didn't blink or respond to it with any sort of pained reaction, but did bleed. Instead, he smiled "unnatural"ly. Is seen using it in at least one Karma as well. Can also use it in the shared-dream-memory space, though it seemed to be accidental due to his losing control upon watching his own near-death as a child. The shard slashed MC on the wrist and hurt her despite it being a dream--according to Lucien this is because it wasn't her dream. The wound inflicted in the dream space didn't cross over to real life. Also he threw those papers in the air in Crisis Date and they tore up without it mentioning the shards, so even then there's maybe more to it

Shadowmancy. Seems to be able to move through them and/or blend into them, create darkness at will. The "thick blackness" seems to be impenetrable by light??? He surrounded himself in it when revealing himself to MC as Ares, then merged into it when leaving. He was merged in the shadows when he brought Josie to him.

And then there's. . .whatever the fuck he did back at the orphanage, when she got upset at him for I think holding her hand, then she went off to find out when the bus back was coming? I remember it said that suddenly sounds stopped, leaves started falling from trees, and MC felt a sense of despair though she was a ways away from him by then.

Like did he just kill a certain amount of living things around him?? Birds suddenly quiet and leaves falling from trees in the middle of summer and just dead silence because he was upset. . . . . . Like I'd think he stopped time but then why did the leaves fall???? Anyway look at his sad puppy face. Which is a hilarious contrast from his recent expressions.

And then MC, for once in her life, realized 'oh my god danger exists'

Oh and the implied lack of need to sleep. He can sleep, he's able, he doesn't have insomnia, but he doesn't like to 'waste time on something so unimportant'(in Ares's words "I have never engaged in idle pursuits.") When questioned on what he means by that he's "all right", he simply said 'it is what it is. I can't say more about it' which is on par with his usual mysteriousness but still a little weird.

We saw Rose and her brother from season 2 of TVD, being exposed to the sun, they got burn but not to death as they quickly vamped elsewhere. Hayley could have done the same thing. Greta was 2 meters away, she could have swiftly vamped from her spot to her and ripped her heart, or at least stole her ring. Moonlight ring are just like daylight rings, remember when the Garrera were given the rings arbitrarily. All this to say that she could have easily made it alive, she survived worse back when she was a wolf, and I presume that wolves are stronger than vamps.

Saying that Hayley's death was inevitable is like saying that Caroline's part in the plot was vital, both are ridiculous opinions based on an unwarranted feeling that Caroline should belong to TO? Julie plec herself is a Klaroliner, so less screentime for Hayley, more screen time for Caroline. Michael used to push the idea and never wanted the TVD universe to have anything to do with the originals', but since he left the show, probably because of Julie dictatorial ultimatum, as he once described her as a GOD who can kill and revive character and even bring the dead from another show because she created both universes and there's nothing his co-producer ass could do about it. We cannot deny the fact that Klaroline fandom is big thing, because they are the first fandom to ship klaus with anyone. Back when there was Klaroline, ships like klayley and klamille didn't exist, but they came to the fore right after the pilot of TO. Some of them loved Klaus enough to watch a show about him, others were so pissed off about Klayley epic sex scene, so they gave up on the show but they knew Julie would one day give them some Klaroline scenes. Those who kept watching the show, hated Klamille and Klayley, so they partly begin to ship Haylijah, while the other half was still rooting for Klaroline and kept bullying every female character coming near Klaus. Julie started the show in a way that is very possible to make klayley happen but was scared by the fans to think that she was running out of ideas and was going back to the old and so predictable love triangle we've seen before in TVD, so she kept teasing us with platonic love scenes between these two, as partners. She failed to make Clamille a thing because Clamille was so a smarter-and-hotter-version of Claroline. Both are blonde, green eyes, sassy attitude, heart full of light (we can't say this about Caroline though), and both had a crush on Klaus and saw good in him. It didn't work, so she killed her, but in an epic way, at which point I fell in love with her character right when she died, her death was inevitable, painful and so well written. Unlike Hayley's. So given that Clamille was dead, klaroliners began to level all their hatred towards Hayley, because she was the only rival left now and with Elijah being gone, there might be a fat chance her relationship ship with the klaus evolve into something more. We saw many lovely scenes in season 4. Both of them fighting shoulder by shoulder, giving each othet advice, listening and comforting each other. He even told her that she reminded him of Camille. But hey we can't have nice things when the ratings are down and a new spinoff is on the way.

2.Legacies:

Julie knew her show needed character from TVD to spurr TVD fans into watching Legacies, and since they were all done with the show, save Candice who doesn't have anything in her schedule. It seemed convenient to her to bring back Caroline, a teen vamp who proved as useful as chicken wings in TO, thinking that her coming would intrigue those old fans who gave up on the show ages ago and would perhaps give Legacies a chance since it is going take place in Mystic falls and there will be Alaric and probably a few appearances of Caroline. So they decided to kill Hayley to pave the way to this poor excuse of a spinoff. It was a cheap treat straight from Julie pelc to award a fandom that never supported her show the way the other ships did. She punished those who never watched TVD, those who loved Hayley, Klaylope, Klayley and Haylijah altogether for a fandom that dates back to 6 years ago and that is alien to our show.

3.Busy schedule:

Hayley is very busy , if you follow her instagram or facebook, you'll see that she's always travelling, filming, posing, attending events. She's the Aussie face of Chanel and had a busy schedule shooting "safe harbor" and another movie last summer, which explains why she didn't attend panels with the rest of her cast, save the Comic con in San Diego. Candice on the other hand is free like the wind, her last activity from two years ago was a photo shoot and it was not even with a magazine so basically it wasn't business but just a couple of pictures to promote herself. Usually celebrity mum shares pic of themselves after pregnancy as a way to say "hey I gave birth to a child and I still look decent". So calling her to play Caroline in the originals is a gift from heaven, since she has some trouble finding a job. One is busy the other is free, why not swap.

4. Perhaps Not a good relationship with some of the cast and probably the producer too : (theory)

Hayley haters had always blamed Michael for obsessing about her , giving her more scenes than both klaus and Elijah sometimes. After his departure, things have changed. A new boss, new rules. It's like the writers sat around a table and said "Hayley is out", the show cannot afford her and Candice. I heard rumors there was feud about money. Hayley wanted a raise and they didn't comply, or maybe she realized she was underpaid. There's something weird. We didn't see Phoebe enjoying herself in the Comic con last year, she looked like she had enough with her job from her demeanor and facial expressions. We didn't see many posts shared about the originals on her social media accounts, if not any, unlike safe harbor, which was promoted plentfully. We didn't see her attend any other comic cons, it's like she was been cast out or maybe she chose to seperate herself from the cast. There's something off that I can't put my finger on. It felt like she quit the show, not the other way round.

Astronomers detect a mammoth planet with the most extreme orbit we've ever seen

Astronomers have found an exoplanet with an absolute doozy of an orbit. Rather than a nice, more-or-less circular path around its star, the exoplanet HR 5183 b slingshots around more like a comet – a long, elliptical orbit with the star at one end of the oval.

It’s the first time any exoplanet has been found with such a bizarre orbital path. If HR 5183 b were in our Solar System, it would swing in closer than the orbit of Jupiter, and then way out farther than the orbit of Neptune.

Although many other exoplanets have been found with elliptical orbits, they have been nowhere near as extreme.

“This planet is unlike the planets in our Solar System, but more than that, it is unlike any other exoplanets we have discovered so far,” said astronomer Sarah Blunt of Caltech.

“Other planets detected far away from their stars tend to have very low eccentricities, meaning that their orbits are more circular. The fact that this planet has such a high eccentricity speaks to some difference in the way that it either formed or evolved relative to the other planets.”

HR 5183 b is a massive gas giant that orbits a Sun-like main sequence star called HR 5183 around 103 light-years away.

Because the exoplanet’s orbit is so weird – it takes around 74 years to orbit the star, swooping out as far as over 30 astronomical units – the team got really lucky in detecting it. They managed to capture it at periastron, its closest approach. That’s less than 5 astronomical units.

It took a lot of patience. The star was under long-term surveillance as part of an exoplanet search using the radial velocity method. This is a very reliable method for finding exoplanets, based on the very slight movement of the star as it is tugged out of place by the gravity of its orbiting bodies.

For close-orbiting planets that take just days to whip around the star, this doesn’t require a lot of time. But if you want to find distant exoplanets with orbits on the scale of years, decades or even centuries, you have to put in a lot of time. That’s why the star was being monitored.

Then, after 10 years, something weird happened. The star started rapidly accelerating – pulled by the exoplanet’s three-Jupiter mass. In 2018, the radial velocity measurements turned over and flattened out.

“This planet spends most of its time loitering in the outer part of its star’s planetary system in this highly eccentric orbit, then it starts to accelerate in and does a slingshot around its star,” said Caltech astronomer Andrew Howard.

“We detected this slingshot motion. We saw the planet come in and now it’s on its way out. That creates such a distinctive signature that we can be sure that this is a real planet, even though we haven’t seen a complete orbit.”

The slingshot is a bit like the gravity assist manoeuvre spacecraft sometimes perform to get a speed boost. It flings the planet back out into the far reaches of the stellar system, where it eventually will reach its farthest point – apastron – and loop back again.

But how did it get that way? The observational evidence suggests that planets are formed from the circular disc of leftover material that didn’t get slurped up into the star as it was forming. So, if things remain calm, planets should maintain a relatively circular orbit.

But we know comets can change their orbital paths when they interact gravitationally with larger Solar System bodies, and that provides a clue as to what could have happened with HR 5183 b.

The most likely scenario, the researchers said, was that HR 5183 b was once neighboured by another planet of similar size. When they got close enough to each other, the gravitational interaction could have kicked HR 5183 b into its weird orbit – and booted the other planet out of the stellar system entirely.

It seems the more we discover about exoplanets, the weirder they get.

We’ve seen huge exoplanets orbiting a tiny star. There’s an exoplanet that’s being rapidly evaporated by its star. There’s an exoplanet with three suns, and an exoplanet with vaporised rare-Earth metals in its atmosphere. Maybe even exoplanets like giant space eyeballs.

And now HR 5153 b, the exoplanet rocketing around its star on a wildly elliptical orbit.

“It’s just been one surprise after another in this field,” Howard said.

“This newfound planet is another example of a system that is not the image of our Solar System but has remarkable features that make our Universe incredibly rich in its diversity.”

The research is due to appear in The Astrophysical Journal, and is available on the pre-print website arXiv.

MB : that video we actually didn't do ourselves, we found that archival footage of the couple and had that intro sequence sone but we sent it to our talented friend Matt Lewis who added the whole vaporwave element, we really weren't too aware of that whole world at the time! But it really worked well with Neon

MB : haven't really listened to Superorganism, we'll check them out!

MB : we always struggle to think of covers, was thinking of sourcing suggestions on Instagram so maybe we'll do that soon

Q : What is thr most difficult song of the creative process for you guys, is it, say, the lyrics, the melody, the mixing?

MB : probably lyrics, it's not that it's HARD but I get very particular about it and sometimes a little slow haha - Mica

Q : i just have to say, i think i've streamed your one song Only If You Want It a million times. it's such a bop and i think it's a great song to introduce people to your work. what was your inspiration for that song and the retro style music video?

MB : yes we think OIYWI really encapsulates what we're aiming to do musically, really glad you like it! Spice Girls, specifically Say You'll Be There, was a huge inspo. We really love that video but didn't have a plan for it AT ALL when we filmed all that footage of me with our vhs cam hahah so it was a mess but then we figured out the word art aesthetic and the bugs and it all came together

Q : How does it feel to be the highlight of my terrible day? Because once I saw the tweet I felt quite a bit better, plus my magbae playlist keeps me calm

MB : Thank you!! We made that cover ourselves so means a lot, and there's a little nod to each mini song in it which is fun

Q : have you ever covered songs that you decided against releasing?

MB : yes lol how did you know?? we did really weird attempts at promiscuous girl and rod stewart's if you think i'm sexy that will never see the light of day

Q : what is the best/worst thing you've guys have encountered so far in the music industry??

MB : best/worst thing we've encountered in the music industry: one of the best things is finding our stuff being posted on r/popheads, we used to have to do it ourselves hahah, worst thing is dealing with shady industry people

Q : Any plans for shows in the Los Angeles area by the end of the year?

MB : re LA shows: we're working on it! probably yes

Q : Did you start making music for the fun of it, or did you actually have asperations to be famous?

MB : we started making music back in high school in a rock band and it just evolved from there. I (mica) never thought I would really do this until i had to graduate college and was like wait!!! I don't want a real job!! // Matt always knew he wanted to work in music

Q : magdalena bay, how would you guys describe your songwriting process?

MB : it's pretty different for each song, only thing that stays the same is that we write lyrics after melody, not all writers do that! but a song can start with a beat or chords or sometimes melody, from either of us!

Q : ooh I actually have one more question! what song of yours has the most meaning to you? whether it’s bc of the inspiration behind it or something else

MB : probably some of the unreleased stuff, but you'll hear it soon! a song called airplane is prob the most personal to me (mica)

MB : soo many but Rina Sawayama is near the top of our list

Q : If you could travel back in time and impart one piece of advise to your early teenage selves, what would it be?

MB : START MAKING POP SOONER

Q : So do you sit down for hours and work on thinking of melodies or do they come to you randomly and you're like "whelp, time to record"

MB : both definitely happen, iphone voice memos are key

MB : blackpink-level music videos

MB : We've just started playing video games and love zelda twilight princess but we're dumb and bad at it and are always stuck lol

Q : there are several users here in popheads who are trying to get into the music industry, if you have one tip you can give them, what would it be?

MB : try to do everything you can yourself- from music production to videos to graphics you will learn a lot and be less reliant on other people!! and you'll save money haha

MB : definitely ag cook, Sophie, grimes, toro, also get a lot of influence from the classics like max martin, quincy jones, pharell

MB : Maybe that we started music playing in a progressive rock band (the opposite of pop) also matt is an amazing chef and mica is argentinian??
