8. Do your friends outside the internet know your roleplay?
My mother knows I roleplay, so yeah, most of my friends know too. I regularly work on writing whenever we'd hang out - even if it's just taking notes so I don't forget later - and that inevitably leads to people asking what I'm doing.
Hell, I also play tabletop rpgs (mostly World of Darkness, Iron Kingdoms, Fate, and Spark, though I have played D&D as well, but not since 3.5), and I used to LARP back before my mobility issues got to the point that it was more of a struggle than it was worth. And I used to attend GenCon back before I broke my ankle and my mobility issues were made even worse and I would need someone with me at all times to attend now.
Now, does anyone actually read any of the rp? Well, again, my mom does, though usually just a post or two when I pull it up for her on my phone to let her read or I read it out to her. We share a lot of the same fandoms and a number of the same favourite characters within those fandoms.
Plus, with her also being a fanfic writer, I can bounce ideas off her for plots, headcanons, and more, and I help do the same for her fanfic. (She helps with my fics too, I just haven't got much written to post, or I'm having to clean up older stuff that I wrote for myself and never put up on AO3.)

You = Amazing. So glad we found each other on here. It's certainly better here with you around, my friend. 💙💙
And our interactions? *chef kiss* Even the ones we've only been talking about and haven't started (because dear gods, Cas and Josie... ehehehe). I has an excite!! Just not much spoons to make it look like it, but my internal self is all bouncy and squeeing despite the brainfog, so there's that.

@dochaes said: (from here because I felt awkward reblogging it)
🍒 + @vortexparadox lexi has so much love for so many characters & a talent to writing them all! specifically on this blog, i love that they are giving attention to several less popular characters from doctor who. like, i’m into classic and eu who and i didn’t even know all of these muses, and alas, now i am into even more eu who just because? wanted to learn more about, say, josie! all thanks to lexi’s portrayal! they are immensely awesome ooc as well. one of the few people i feel like i can fully trust with more sensitive private things, and also someone who i don’t feel the need to be scared i’m gonna lose when i have long stretches of time where i feel so overwhelmed by social interaction i just don’t talk ooc to anybody. that’s genuinely rare.
Okay, to completely derail all this right from the start, but can I just say how this was my immediate response to seeing myself referred to by they/them pronouns?
Now, on to the continued lovefest, because OMG, HELI!!!!!
I love that, of everyone on this blog, you singled out Josie, because she is seriously one of the most underrated companions in Doctor Who, especially since Eight never got a proper televised run, and then so many people just... ignore the comics altogether, which is a damn shame given how many great characters (and characterisations of more well known characters) come out of them - especially from the Titan Comics’s side of things.
Josie’s run only lasted five issues, because they never gave them a “Year 2″ or further like they did with many of the other Doctor & Companion(s) combinations (like Ten with Gabby and Cindy). So beyond that and a handful of panels in some of the specials, there’s not a lot to go by past her initial travels with the Doctor as he learns just who exactly she even is. Add to it that she’s one of the non-human companions that is also forever removed from her place in time and space, and one of the few companions that, insofar as canon has been concerned with, doesn’t die or nothing horrible happens, so she just... keeps living in the Doctor’s cottage in Wales for the foreseeable future? A truly rare “happy ending” for a companion, even when forced to stay behind due to the Time War? Yeah. It was impossible for me not to fall in love with her.
Plus all of the expanded universe stuff is always... a bit harder to gain traction with, especially outside of their tiny niche fandoms. Part of the whole reason I decided to focus so heavily on the EU and Classic side of things is because there’s so little of it on here, especially in the rpc side of things. Plus having more than the same core cast of characters, when there are literally hundreds of main cast characters in the DWEU, yet more often than not, you can only find the same handful of characters in terms of both rp and even fan works?
I can only really speak for myself here, but I thoroughly enjoy variety, and having a wider range of characters, all with varying personalities (which, let me tell you, can be a bitch to manage at times, especially when they do share some traits between a lot of them [hi, my name is Lexi, and I enjoy writing snarky little shits]) is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Especially when so many people aren’t even aware some of these characters even exist - like Josie, Gabby, Cindy, or Noobis (the last of whom actually existed before his appearance in the comics, but through one of the Faction Paradox audios, but he didn’t get as much of his backstory explored until the comics).
So yeah, it means a lot to me that these muses are appreciated, and I love you dearly for getting into their source material so I have someone to scream excitedly about them (especially Josie) with because there’s not many people who even know them beyond my writing, edits, and such. (See also: reasons why I typically don’t share hc’s unless I’m really excited about something without being specifically asked for them...)
As for the ooc side of things...
I can’t even begin to tell you how relieved I am that you realise all that. You’re damn right in that - you don’t have to worry about ever losing me just because we don’t talk for a while. It’s always baffled me when people perceive friendships as having... expiration dates, I guess? Or maybe subscription end dates would be a better analogy? Like “we’re sorry, you didn’t use your friendship for 30 days, so now we’re ending your friendship”. Seriously?
I have friends who I only speak to every few months because their schedules are just that hectic, but I don’t love them any less for not being able to talk to me regularly. I know that I can always message them - and even wall of text them - at any time, and they’re able to do the same with me, and it’s never been awkward. These are friends I’ve held onto for damn near 20 years now from when I was fresh out of high school, and I’m confident that they’ll still be there in another 20 years.
And I look forward to being able to say that about you (and Dean) too, many years down the road. You’re stuck with me now. And my inevitable sappiness when I end up all “aww, you guys! I love you~” because I do. Love you, that is.
You’re a dear friend, and I’m just so glad we managed to stumble across each other on this hellsite. It just wouldn’t be the same without you. 💕

@dochaes asked: 14 What’s their self-image like? Do they like their body? What makes them feel good in their skin? (josie!)
💌 July - 31 Character Headcanon Questions [ meme - accepting ]
Angst inbound + cw for typical pre-canon Josie stuff involving vague mentions of abuse, neglect, forced isolation, and imprisonment.
Josie is the literal portrait of Lady Josephine, painted by an Artificer of Wrall. She is essentially biosynthetic in nature, in that the animae particles that brought her to life constructed molecular composition of organic flesh and blood, as well as remnants of the paint and canvas on which she was originally painted and crawled out of when she took on a form of life of her own.
She’s well aware that many people - especially humans, in her experience - are slightly unnerved around her when they can’t figure out exactly what seems off about her. Her skin is soft, but tends to be on the dry side, and there’s a barely noticeable texture akin to that of an oil painted canvas to her.
Given Lady Josephine’s treatment of her when she first came to life, Josie holds a strong sense of resentment toward the human that she is a perfect reflection of, at least until she manages to reach a point of sentience and freedom to have agency in her own life and makes changes to her appearance.
She hates that she looks identical to the woman who kept her locked away in an art gallery for who knows how long before the human died and Josie was sent off to be sold at auction like any other piece of artwork.
One of the first things Josie does once she’s able is to dye her hair blue and pink, and getting it cut in a new style. She also has her ears pierced and gauged, as well as as her nostril pierced with a ring. It’s these changes that allow her to feel like her own person, rather than “just a copy” and a “pale reflection of the real thing”, as Lady Josephine often called her.
Josie can experience severe anxiety if she goes too long without redoing her hair, if the natural blond starts to show through once more. She’ll also be much more insecure about herself during those periods, whereas she can actually be surprisingly confident, if generally fairly quiet, under most other circumstances.

anonymous asked: 13. Are there any other characters from the franchise you’d like to play?
💌 canon questionare. [ meme - accepting ]
Canon-wise, not really at this point in time. The last three years with the current televised show have left me kinda 'meh' about the franchise on a whole, and on top of everything else going on, I haven't spent that much time revisiting the older stuff or continuing my read through of the EDAs and other novel series, or listening to all the audios, or catching up on the comics...
The closest thing I've got for adding a new muse here currently is the possibility of fleshing out the personality of Carmen's TARDIS, where she's already a little bit of an NPC but might work her way up to a tertiary muse eventually once I get back into the swing of things for DW.

anonymous asked: 11. Do you welcome duplicates of your character or stay away from them?
💌 meme for rp muns [ meme - accepting ]
11. Do you welcome duplicates of your character or stay away from them?
This is Doctor Who we're talking about. Running into yourself from other timelines and/or even other universes is a pretty standard occurrence for many of the muses within canon - especially for the Time Lords, where their appearance may or may not be the same even when it is the same person.
Not to mention there are canonically two Osgoods - one human and one zygon - and the one I write doesn't state which she is. Braxiatel regularly interacts with himself throughout his own timeline, usually working with himself to ensure his plans go the way he intends for them to (plus there was that whole thing with the bank... and no, that's not referring to that heist episode in New Who. There's another bank heist involving Benny in one of the audios).
Now, I might be more hesitant with someone like Josie, simply because of how she is in the way I write her. I focus heavily on her being the only one of her kind to have ever even existed (this is giving me horrid NF/T vibes now, dammit), and there would most likely be angst involved if she were to encounter herself. Though given her overall obscurity for most of the DWEU fandom, it's probably not something that's going to come up in rp anyway (though I might write a ficlet for it eventually).
Though there is also the entertainment of mistaken identities, particularly where I've used FCs from other fandoms for characters who don't have actors with suitable resources. So even on that front, it really doesn't bother me.
The same is true pretty much for any character on my other blogs as well. The only one I'd have any real issue with is Layla, given she's a wholly original character, but she does use FC resources from other fandoms and can appear however she wants herself to, so even then that's a potential for some duplicate shenanigans in a sense.

ORION!! The spoons are low at the moment, so forgive me if I don't ramble on and on along the lines of "no, you~!!" Then again, we're so much mutuals we're having mutual brain foggy days, so...
Synchronized brain fog? Is that a thing? 😂
Random muse roulette is delightful when we both have muses we're unfamiliar with (still not over Francis... dude... omg). And the unexpected ships? Yes, please! They come so naturally, which is perfect in my book.
All my love back at you. 💙💙

Anonymous asked: on what platform did you start RPing?
💌 munday asks!!! [ meme - accepting ]
My first roleplaying experience was done through pen and paper sent via snailmail with my childhood penpal who lived in England.
We started writing together when we were about eight years old, mailing things back and forth overseas, so each envelope would have a letter (often several pages of one), the reply to our roleplay writing, and occasionally whatever small token or trinket we could fit into envelope without causing any issues for mailing it. We sent each other so many friendship bracelets, coins, stickers, and the like. I still have most of them in storage somewhere.

To the anon asking for my thoughts about the recent DW announcements regarding the showrunner and such: I don’t discuss the “behind the scenes” stuff about the series on my roleplay blog.
If you want my thoughts about various characters, or my muses’ thoughts about them, etc., that’s absolutely fine. But when it comes to the ‘real life’ aspects of the show and fully breaking the fourth wall, I’d rather keep that to my ooc blog if I discuss it at all.
That said, that’s not a topic I’m personally touching in depth on any of my blogs with a ten foot poll. Suffice it to say that I’m glad the current showrunner is leaving, and let’s leave it at that.

An unintentional, very belated afterthought to this ask from @dochaes...
So, one of the things that does happen on occasion is I will rewatch, relisten, and/or reread something from beginning to end just for a particular thread, or sometimes specifically for a single reply.
I’ve been known to reread entire novels within the DWEU specifically because my partner referenced it and I had the time to finish the book after my own reply since the dialogue in question wasn’t quite to the point of going into details about their shared past and experiences that took place in that same novel. Though given that I had read the book before already (Happy Endings by Paul Campbell, in this case), it didn’t take me that long to reread it either.
It’s a bit more difficult to do for things like the tv series and audio dramas, since I do have issues with audio processing, so self-imposed breaks and interruptions are more frequent, especially if I have to rewind to catch a bit I missed.
At least it’s not quite as bad as when things come up for the video game muses. Unless I can find someone on youtube who made the exact same choices I did for the particular playthrough I had in mind, then I’ll load up the game and hope I have an existing save file with the appropriate timing for that scene to replay it. And if not, I’ll usually start over from the beginning, at least until I reach the scene I need. (There’s a reason I have nearly 900 hours clocked on Dragon Age Origins, after all.)

@dochaes asked: What little things do you do special when writing your muse(s) that you wonder if anyone has noticed?
💌 Munday stuff! [ meme - accepting ]
Umm... To be honest, I’m not really sure?
Most people catch on pretty quick to my efforts to try to get the muses’ voices right so that their dialogue sounds as close to how you’d expect in any canon they appear in as possible.
Which can be a right pain to remember to do with some muses - such as Leela here (and Layla, too, over on her blog or when she’s making the occasional cameo appearance here) - since their speech patterns are very obviously different than most (contractions exist, dammit. But both of them seem to avoid them at all cost - at least most of the time, and if they don’t, it’s usually because I goofed and didn’t catch it before posting).
A handful of people pick up on my random af references to either obscure DWEU canon or lore, or various references to the works of Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, and Neil Gaiman (ie the three authors I spent most of my youth reading), though I suspect I slip in far more than gets noticed since I usually don’t mention them in the tags (hello, social anxiety, I get anxious talking in the tags even, which is why I usually don’t, unless I hit a ramble and then won’t stop and you’ll end up with a wall of text like I’m nearly doing now - though to be fair, at the moment, I’m also sleep deprived, which both helps and doesn’t at the same time on that front).
Beyond that? I know my strength lies largely in my dialogue. I used to write plays for my grade school drama club way back when, so a lot of my early writing (albeit not my earliest, since I started writing fanfic and poetry on a regular basis when I was just 8 years old) mostly dealt with dialogue and stage direction.
Adjectives are often my weak points in writing, and in speaking in general, tbh. Anyone overhearing a conversation between me and my mom often are very confused by the time they’ve given up easedropping, since it’s normal for us to ask “where’s the thing that does the thing for the thing?” and we both know fully what the other means with only thing to go by. ‘Thing’ and ‘thingy’ are technical terms where we’re concerned, so...
If you get actual words out of me, consider yourself lucky, I guess? Then again, I have this site bookmarked for that very reason.
Did I even manage to actually answer the question in any of this? I don’t think so. But I also need to try to sleep, since I’ve been up well over 24 hours at this point. I hope you enjoyed the rambling, at any rate. 💕

Anonymous asked: which of your muses is the most friendly to strangers? which is the least friendly?
💌 Multimuse Ask Game [ meme - accepting ]
Most friendly is very easily Josie Day, if you’re looking to interact with a companion, and the Eighth Doctor if you’re looking to interact with a Time Lord. I write them both individually or together, depending on what the interaction calls for, since Josie is one of Eight’s companions that he travels with shortly before he’s conscripted to fight in the Last Great Time War.
The least friendly is Irving Braxiatel, followed by Carmen Sandiego, and then Narvin - all of whom are Time Lords - as well as Leela, where the companions are concerned, given how often she threatens people with her knife and/or janis thorns.

@moonwoken asked: what are your criteria for adding new muses?
💌 Multimuse Ask Game [ meme - accepting ]
There’s very little that actually stops me from adding them, tbh. Especially since whenever I get the urge to add a new muse, the people I end up going to about it are all enablers who lead to me doing so (there’s a reason I have 25+ muses so far, after all).
As for DWEU specific muses that I’d consider adding, it does get a bit more complicated, since there are some characters that I’m perfectly okay with writing as NPCs or in fanfic, but have absolutely no desire to write as an rp muse.
Like how, at this time, I’m only really interested in writing the Eighth Doctor, and exploring that particular regeneration on a whole, especially since in terms of chronological existence, he’s one of the longest lasting Doctors to survive (I need to see if I can find that post about the Doctor’s age again, because yeah, it gives a whole new view on New Who when you factor in Eight’s canon properly).
I’ve had a handful of people ask about me writing other regenerations before, but aside from the Fourth Doctor, I had no desire to whatsoever. And now, I’ve essentially retired the Fourth Doctor as well, though I might still write him on rare occasion with select people. But the rest of the Doctors, I’d pretty much only write in fic, and likely not where they’re the main character focus.
And I don’t have any interest in writing the Master outside of fic, or maybe occasionally an NPC in something that’s actually semi-plotted to figure out wtf is going on to have them involved in the first place. But that’s another one where I’ve had requests for, and it’s just a character that I’m not invested enough in to actually write that much character-centric stuff with.
Beyond that? It’s mostly a combination of my desire to explore their character, and knowing that there’s at least one person with a desire to write with them.
Though I am far more likely to add muses from the Expanded Universe or Classic Who than I am New Who, since I’ve pretty much already added anyone from New Who that I’m interested in writing.

Anonymous asked: im in love with your writing! your style is so elegant and profound, i honestly could read it for days!
I...
Okay, let me start by saying: this was literally the first thing I read tonight when I woke up. Because my email notification went off just as I was reaching for the phone to check the time, and this is what I found.
I’m just... askjdehfaskdjhf?!?! Thank you so much?!
Writing’s been a passion of mine from a very young age. I actually had my first works (mostly poetry, and a couple short stories) published when I was only eight years old, including winning a number of contests in the process. My mother is also a writer (and in a number of fandoms; she used to be an editor of a number of the printed fanzines back before the internet became a thing), so I never lacked encouragement. And it’s been one of the few things that have stuck with me through the years.
Anyway... Thank you! Truly!! I just... nnnh, words are hard at the moment (I haven’t even made coffee yet, nonnie!! I wanted to get back to you first!), but this is just so sweet and I’m still grinning like a fool.
Stay awesome, my dear, and enjoy the show. Gods know these muses have a tendency to get up to weird shenanigans at times. Plus, y’know, they’re the ones I’m most likely to write fic for as well (I have one wip right now that’s focused on Brax and Benny, but has other muses tied into it as well, though mostly in the background where I’m at right now - I haven’t finished enough of it yet to really post it, but when I do, you will be able to find it on AO3).
But for now?
Coffee time.

💌 Emoji Mun Questions [ meme - always accepting ]
😰 What is one character you desperately want your muse to interact with?
I have to pick just one?! It really depends on which of my muses we’re talking about here, to be perfectly honest. And in some case, it’s with duplicates of my own muses!
I’m also sticking mostly to canon muses, because OCs are so widely varied that it’d be a bit difficult to include them, but as always, OCs are very welcome on this blog, as well as my others.
Josie ― Eighth Doctor
Osgood ― Kate Stewart
Donna ― Tenth Doctor
Braxiatel ― Bernice Summerfield
Bernice ― Irving Braxiatel
Leela ― Donna Noble
Fourth Doctor ― Romana
Eighth Doctor ― New Who companions within the Altered History AU
Narvin ― Irving Braxiatel, Romana, and Leela
Carmen ― any law enforcement and/or people objecting to her thievery
Gabby ― Tenth Doctor
Cindy ― Tenth Doctor
Noobis ― The Doctor (any regeneration)
Toshiko ― Owen Harper
Martha ― The Doctor (any regeneration)
Bill ― Thirteenth Doctor (struggling to remember “GRANDAD” while coping with “omg she’s hot”)
I mean, there are plenty of others! I really enjoy exploring the potential for all sorts of dynamics, which is part of why I also enjoy crossovers so much.
Like, crossover wise? I’d love Josie to interact with other people besides the Doctor who, like her, look human but actually aren’t - like the androids from Detroit: Become Human. I’d love Leela to get to meet other strong-willed warrior women. I’d love Tosh to meet other tech experts and geek out together over computers and such. I’d love Bill to have all the girlfriends her gay little heart can handle.
