I have a friend from college (actually high school, he was the first person I met on the first day of cherubs-- he took me to Osco to buy markers bc he was from Evanston, RIP Osco) and we were VERY GOOD FRIENDS through college and for the first few years out of college when we both lived in the city. We hung out all the time!! And he is VERY HOT. Like he's so hot, he's been hot since we were 17!! I always had like, an idle crush on him? I didn't want to go out with him ever but like, he's hot! One time we ALMOST kissed in a stairwell but we were so stone and I was mesmerized by his perfect eyebrows. That was as close as we ever got to anything happening, bc he was just my pal! my hot pal!

anyway we both got married and I haven't seen him in like 10 years but he's friends with one of my new local friends, bc they are both married to russians so like, hang out and do russian things together. And I'm always like Allison have a party so I can see Bruce again!!

Anyway it hasn't happened but I saw him today in the Trader Joe's parking lot and it took a minute to make sure it was him and then I didn't say anything bc I look terrible and I would have had to like run him down. But will I ever see him again?

Like, surely, yes I will see him! I would be so happy to see him! But maybe I won't since it's been 10 years of me in HP and him in Northbrook and this is the only time it's happened. And he's still so hot. He really is! Also Allison and I both agree he's hot and we were talking about him and our friends wanted to see so we pulled up his photo and everyone was like, "... him?"

but anyway maybe he goes to TJ's on Sundays now and I will look for him every week! I always look cuckoo at tj's bc I come from the gym but who knows!! If nothing else maybe I'll see him at my college reunion next year. Or Allison's baby naming lolll. (Allison is actually having a baby, this is a real possibility.)

So I have this head canon that Scott's relationship with Vision is very different from the other Avengers, since he came back from the dead/reintegrated teen Scott's memories.

Because, while the Avengers are generally worthy of respect normally (when they're not invading Utopia and demanding the X-Men hand over their children anyway...sorry, sorry, just reread AvX and still hold a grudge), Vision is different.

Vision is Viv's DAD.

So somewhere in Scott's brain, his relationship with Vision is like the relationship you have with your childhood friends' parents. Like you could be 40, and they're still Mr. So-and-so.

Like every other Avenger is a colleague, ally or adversary depending on what's happening at the moment. But that's "Mr. Vision*", Thank you very much.

Win for the queers today, I think.

We went to and spoke at a local council meeting this week. Long story short, our town is planning a pride festival and we're helping get it off the ground for its second year running. And, of course, the council doesn't like that very much. They were holding a vote in their meeting about whether or not to remove their funding from it, and if so, how much. The amount ended up getting dropped a bit, but nowhere near as much as a lot of them wanted it to be. A small win, though not the best outcome.

We'd been to a council meeting about the festival before. The first time was before the first festival, and one particular councilor had called for a vote to cancel it. We, helping run the festival, of course registered to speak at that council meeting as a member of the public and give our two cents. This was earlier this year, and we won--the festival was a huge success! That particular councilor wasn't happy, but oh well! That's a him issue.

Yesterday, though, we saw that specific transpbobic councilor in the dollar store. He, behaving like something out of a damn cartoon, looked us dead in the eye--then slowly turned away and started literally whistling. I cannot make this up. Literally whistling innocently. He seemed to wander around for a bit, then make a line straight for the door to leave. Like okay, the scary transgender who's spoken at your meeting twice is in the craft isle at the dollar store. So damn scary. We had a good laugh about it with our partner who was also there with us, and carried on with our day.

But, later that night, we get a notification on our phone. This councilor had looked us up on Facebook of all places--a place we don't have our face, we have our chosen name and a random bird as our icon--and followed our account. This guy, so damn pressed about us being outspoken and contesting him and his attempts to cancel the festival, remembered our chosen name, and sought us out on Facebook to follow us. We had to use our legal name for the registration forms! He remembered that in our speech, we introduced ourselves as our chosen name.

If that's not proving we live rent free in this old queerphobes head, I don't know what is. I see this as an absolute win, and a sign we're doing the right thing--being a person that assholes feel the need to keep tabs on. That's right, be threatened.

seeking out posts with opinions you know you won't agree with, to add long additions on why they're wrong, is widely seen as impolite and even combative on Tumblr. You're going to be met with hostility because people see it as a hostile act to begin with. similarly, it's considered rude to tag your hate of a ship or fandom content with the tag of that ship or content. Tumblr is structured to allow people to tailor their own communities and most people won't like you barging in going "actually, you're wrong." Most posts, unless actually specified, are not invitations for debate - building upon ideas, yes, and even asking questions is fine, but not "you are wrong." The culture is that we're doing our own thing over here, and you can stay over there, and coming into our spaces just to tell us we're wrong is rude. And embarrassing.
