To all of those who are hurt and scared right now, who have been thrown into a state of survival. 

Your feelings are justified.

If history has taught us anything, what happens next will be hard.

This vote is not the end though. There is so much we can all still do.

In the words of Michael McWhorter

This. Right here. I've been part of this fandom for over 20 years at this point. It's not about the books (and certainly not the movies, which I haven't even seen all of), specifically. I can, and have, acknowledged for years that they're not exactly literary masterpieces. Giving me a list of books that do the magical school concept better doesn't actually address the problem.

Because the problem is, I'm not going to let JKR's bullshit, nor others' reactions to it, deprive me of the community I've been a part of for so long. If you can't engage with the IP anymore because of JKR, that's fine. Understandable. You do what's best for you. But you can fuck right off with your holier-than-thou, condescending bullshit, coming at me just because I'm not willing to give up my community.

If I'm not giving her money, singing her praises, or platforming her views, then mind your business. I'm going to keep playing with my dolls over here and talking to my friends about it.

As a trans person, I am never, ever, ever giving up Harry Potter. And our fandom isn't going anywhere. Fucking deal with it.

Around this time last year, when JKR made some stupid comment (totally forgetting which one, there's just been so many at this point), I wrote a defense of Harry Potter fans' decision to remain in the fandom that essentially boiled down to this: giving up this fandom means giving up our people. In the wake of JKR's horrendous role in the anti-scientific UK Supreme Court ruling conflating sex with gender, this sentiment remains exactly the same.

I don't begrudge any HP fan who can no longer engage with JKR's IP due to this vile development. But I remain loud and proud in my support of the ✨community✨ that Harry Potter has brought together. As I mentioned in my last post, this community is not only full of the funniest, nicest, cleverest, and most creative people I've ever met in my life, but it is also the most diverse I have ever been a part of — and as an extrovert and community organizer who has lived in four different countries and speaks three languages, I have met a shit ton of people and been a part of lots of communities, significantly more than the average person. You are out of your mind if you think I am going to turn my back on the community that has been so critical to my survival as a queer, brown, neurodivergent, depressed, burnt out, poor Muslim femme in this capitalist, fascist hellscape. Day in and day out, my friends and I are pushing forward some of the most powerful narratives about queer, trans, and colonial liberation that society has to offer, which will have ripple effects on media and pop culture in the time to come (as is the nature of fandom). Nothing JKR can do or say will take that away from us. Nothing.

So to everyone who wants to claim that we're being transphobic for FREELY engaging with JKR's IP and doing things with it that would make her combust — that we're transphobic for wanting to keep this beautiful, generous community in tact — I not so kindly ask you to fuck off and leave us the fuck alone. You resist your way, and we will continue to resist in ours.

one thing that got me into your content was your perspective on the story games you played. for example when you played games like little nightmares, fran bow, and night in the woods, your input and commentary of the stories, concepts, and characters was so interesting and entertaining for me, and I'm sure many others

ig what I'm suggesting is games you and the audience can get truly invested in. during those streams, your humor wasn't the only thing carrying the stream, it was also your reactions and input that were refreshing to see.

this may be less like advice and more of a personal preference, actually T-T

illario as the grandchild that is most like caterina is something i'm loving to chew on. the grandson that took her lessons to heart the most. kill anyone who sees your face and knows your name, "we are not revolutionaries", the first out of the two to prioritise the contract. power at any cost, and the only one to lean into the unnecessary abuse that their grandmother told them was tradition. why is anyone surprised he allied with the venatori? and then there's illario's considerable skill in infiltration and manipulating any mark, he has always had the charisma that lucanis lacked. illario isn't attached, he has/can/will use someone and immediately drop them; "that does free me from promises i don't intend to keep". he can lie about how much he cares so well that he fools a magister into believing he loves her. he kills zara without hesitation to cover his own tracks, meanwhile lucanis blindly promises a young girl in the middle of a siege that he will help her find her father. even the lessons about family stick with him, and in this entire messy power struggle, he never actually orders anyone to directly kill caterina or lucanis, not until he's backed into a corner.

and even after all that. despite even lucanis believing illario should be first talon, lucanis is still the better killer. illario is not strong enough to be the brutal assassin caterina needs him to be. so when lucanis seems to fill the role his mother left, grief and love for her dead heir apparent remains, and any of the other qualities caterina needs in her next talon doesn't matter. whatever his mother was, lucanis has to be. what illario does doesn't matter, because he will always be second best to caterina's memory of her favored daughter.

I bet the drifter makes it a point to bring hunhow new games whenever he can, only to find that hunhow, the sentient machine who can exist in the weave and turn himself into code, has already started making his own. He still plays the ones the drifter brings him anyway, though.
