Fuck-ass Mohawk
Contains: Alcohol, smoking (cigarettes and cannabis), Soap being Soap, Ghost being Ghost, uninvited touching, tall fem reader
Short little thing about Johnny liking it a bit when you're a bitch to him (And Ghost likes it too)
868 Words ~ MDNI
You’d rather stay home and play board games, but Laurie had convinced everyone that it was a good night for clubbing. You hated clubs— The noise, the crowds, the smell of sweat and alcohol and hormones— and spent the better part of club nights standing outside chain-smoking, or crammed into a dirty bathroom stall holding back a friend’s hair as she threw up blue curacao because she didn’t listen to you when you told her to eat dinner before going out. Tonight didn’t look like it was going to end up with anyone puking their guts up, at least. Laurie’s flirting with a gorgeous hunk with a devastating smile, and Alex and Hannah are dancing, so you go out the side door into the alley for some fresh air. Or air, anyway, since the alley’s where folks go to smoke. You light a joint, because at least that will dull the effect that the sound is having on your head. It’s getting close to midnight, which at least means the night is almost over, so long as someone doesn’t drag you along to some weirdo’s house. “Hey, wha’s a bonnie thing like ye doin’ out here all alone?” A voice purrs in your ear. You jump, surprised that he could get so close with out you noticing him, especially once you turn and really look at him. He’s huge, not that tall, probably your height when you’re not wearing boots (You have about an inch and a half on him in your shit-kickers), but broad and way more muscled than anyone has any reason to be, wrapped in a too-tight shirt, and smiling at you, bright blue eyes fixed on yours with unnerving intensity. He pats your shoulder. “Didnae mean to scare ye, lass, just wanted to say hello.” You take a big step to the side, establishing a new bubble of personal space without him in it. “Well, hello,” you say dismissively. “Goodbye.” There’s a snort from a few meters away, a big fellow with a kn95 mask dangling on one ear, his hand up in front of his face, a cigarette clamped between his fingers. “Och, dinnae be like tha’, hen.” “Don’t like it?” you ask, glaring at him. “Go away. Plenty of girls in there’ll go for whatever all this is.” A sweeping, unimpressed glance from his boots and ripped jeans up to his stupid mohawk would usually do the trick, but it only made this fellow smile wider. “No’ enough fer ya? I can sweeten tha deal some. The big fella doesnae mind sharin’ a sweet lass with me noo and again. There’s plenty of ye ta go around.” “Johnny,” the big fellow in question says sternly. His mask is back in place, covering the lower half of his face. “Dun’t look like she’s interested.”
“Tha’s where you’re wrong, LT. She just doesna want to admit it. Hen’s got pride. Wants to make me work for it, right lass?” He winks at you. “No. Don’t like your fuck-ass mohawk.” You puff on your joint, keeping your face still while he splutters, indignant. “Fuck-ass mohawk?” he asks. “What do ye mean by tha’?” “I mean it looks like you have a contentious relationship with your father,” you say. Maybe you’re being a bit mean, but it’s always fun to take a cocky fucker down a peg or two. “I don’t fuck with men with daddy issues. Most of ‘em are cops or military lads.” The big guy— LT?— laughs aloud at that while Johnny’s still looking at you with his mouth hanging open. The side door opens, and your friends pile out, Laurie arm in arm with her hunk, and Hannah and Alex clinging to handsome fellows of their own. “There you are,” Laurie says. “We’re going back to Hannah’s. Are you coming?” “Uh. I guess.” Laurie beams at you, and looks up at her hunk. “Kyle, do you need to find your friends?” “Nah. These lads right here.” He gestures at Johnny and LT. with a grin. “Knew Ghost would be out here, and Soap’s always followin’ him around like the big puppy he is.” “Ah’m no’!” You fall into step at the rear of the group. You’ll probably head home rather than join them, but Hannah’s flat is on the way to your own. Johnny and his handler flank you, matching your stride when you slow down or speed up. Annoying. “So what, is the big guy your replacement daddy?” you ask. “Wha— No!” Johnny says hotly. “He’s just my lieutenant.” “Could be your daddy, if you like,” Ghost says, putting a heavy hand on the back of your neck. “Got a thing for caustic little cunts.” “Oh fuck off,” you say, trying to shove his hand off. His grip squeezes a little tighter, and you try to ignore the way that core clenches around nothing. You channel the heat into anger, and dig your nails into his wrist hard. “Don’t fucking touch me.” He grunts, but doesn’t seem all that affected by your claws. “Look at you, ‘issin’ and spittin’ like a puffed up alley cat. S’cute. But save it for later, eh? Don’t want you to tire yourself out too early.”

Not Exactly Cinderella Part 2
Part 1
WC: 818
“You have a thing for black hair and blue eyes, huh?” Dick teased, looking at the guy that Wally had pointed out. He laughed as Wally slapped his shoulder for the comment. “What? I’m not complaining. And you’re right, he does have a cute smile.”
Wally just blushed again.
“Well, come on, I think that most of my official duties are done. Let’s go see what he’s like,” Dick said, heading back towards the stairs.
“What if he’s a jerk?” Wally asked.
“Then we just move on and go find someone else to talk to,” Dick answered easily. “This isn’t a mission or anything, Walls, if you don’t click you don’t click. You can think his smile is cute and not want to do anything with him.”
Wally sighed, though, rather than being comforted by that.“You keep talking like he’ll want to do something with me.”
Dick stopped them at the bottom of the stairs, tugging them to the side. He knew he probably looked a little worried, but he couldn’t help it. No, of course he could fake it, he was a damn Bat, but he didn’t want to. Wally deserved to know that he was bothered by this. If Dick had known that Wally was having these self esteem issues, he would have done something earlier.
Wally deserved to know how amazing he was.
“If he doesn’t want you, it will because he’s straight or not into quick romance or doing something physical,” Dick said. “Or because he’s insane and doesn’t like red heads. Never trust someone who doesn’t like red heads.”
Wally rolled his eyes but he looked more relaxed. “Just because you have a thing for red heads…”
“Walls, sweetheart, you’re amazing. You’re smart and funny and fun. And you’re pretty damn hot too between the red hair and adorable freckles and your runner’s body. If he’s not into you there could be reasons for it, but it’s not because you aren’t an amazing catch.”
Wally let out a breath of air and nodded. “Okay. Sure. I mean, I don’t agree but sure. Let’s go talk to him.”
“Great!” Dick said with a grin. He took Wally’s hand but dropped it as they got closer to their target. The guy must have taken a break from his last discussion and was over to the side with a fresh drink in hand. Dick detoured them briefly to get drinks also; it was important for everyone to feel like they were on the same social page. They settled near the other as if taking a break from the crowd themselves.
“Enjoying the evening?” Dick asked, drawing the strangers blue eyes to them.
Oh, fuck, more adorable freckles.
“You know, I actually am,” he said, seeming surprised by that. As an after thought he held out his hand. “Oh, sorry, I’m Danny.”
Not a socialite if he was leaving off the last name. That was a positive.
“Dick,” he said, shaking the offered hand before backing off. “And this is Wally.”
“Nice to meet you,” Danny said, as he shook Wally’s hand. “You two having a good night?”
“Mostly. We’re finally where we can relax and talk to who we want to, which is nice. Wally here always has to track down the other scientists at these things,” Dick answered for them, pleased when Danny perked up at that.
“Are you scientist?” Danny asked
“Chemist, mostly material sciences but some organic too,” Wally said with a slightly bashful little smile. “You?”
“Bimolecular and biomedical engineering,” Danny said.
At least Dick would have an easy excuse to duck out when the conversation got too technical for him.
“Did they do the same thing with you and keep trying to make you pick one?”
Danny laughed and gave a little shrug. Dick could tell Wally almost swooned at the sound— not that Dick could blame Wally, Danny had a really nice laugh and the crooked smile was downright precious.
“Totally. I though that two of them were going to get in a fist fight over me at one point! Which I suppose at least would have been hilarious. I’ve won so far, but it’s going to be hard to pick a doctorate when I get there.”
“Oh man, good luck. I got my masters last year and stopped for now. Want to get some work experience, you know?” Wally asked. “But it sounds like you’ll kick ass whatever you choose. Where are you going to school right now? Gotham doesn’t really do much of that, right?”
“U Penn,” Danny said. “I’m close enough location wise that my godfather called in a favor for me to be his plus one for this event, but it really hasn’t been that bad so far.
“Who’s your godfather?” Dick asked curiously.
Danny smiled that crooked smile again. “Vlad Masters.”
Dick couldn’t help the way his nose wrinkled at that.
Danny just laughed.
--
AN: Just a little bit of Dick's POV! And oh no, Dick thinks Danny is cute too! Whatever will we do...
Wanted to write more of this, but *waves hand at everything*. But this brings us to the end of the 'new schedule'! It was fun to do but I certainly won't be doing it every week. It's back to just trauma Tuesday for now! Stay delightful, darlings.

Cabin in the woods (yan!slasher!Konig x fem!Reader x yan!slasher!Horangi) part 3
Little birdie got caught. Konig is simply too excited to let you go. Chapter 1 Chapter 2 AO3
TW for the chapter: Light blood and gore, dead bodies, mentions of drugs, spanking, kidnapping
Tumblr media
— Those fucking bastards killed Karen! Don’t you care?!
Shouting at your friends was never your forte, but you expected that it would come out at some point in your unwilling journey, You never knew it would because of the psycho killers on the loose, wanting nothing more but to make a nice set of decorations from your bones and eat your liver.
You try to scream some senses into Chad’s tough skull but, just like his name suggests, this is a useless endeavor and you would be far better off running for your life, abandoning your friends, and hoping that killers would be satisfied without your sacrifice. But, you’re too nice. But, you have a bleeding heart and a death wish – and you feel guilty over not feeling guilty that Karen is dead. This is a new, overwhelming feeling for you, the one that almost revamps your whole essence. There are changes occurring, and you would rather die than acknowledge those changes.
— Listen to me, goddamnit! We’re all going to die!
You must be looking horrible – mouth covered in blood like you just ate a bunch of raw meat, smelling of dirt and fresh guts, hands shaking and your face resembling the horror mixed with anger – even Marty is surprised to see the resident mouse behave like this. God, even you are surprised to see just how horrified you look, screaming at them in the hope of saving at least someone.
Marty drops a hand over your shoulders, pulling you to the side. You try to resist, but his clanky figure is surprisingly grippy and strong – you are being pulled to the nearest tree branches, just out of the range of the group. You spend the previous few hours trying to find them and yell some senses into their heads – and the only thing that they advised is that you should stop drinking for today and that stealing pills from Marty’s stash isn’t very nice even if he kinda doesn’t care where his junk goes. Still, you are fucking trembling.
Marty pushes you to the tree, whispering in your ear – you feel his hot, deranged breath on the side of your face, making you wince. Even compared to the killer’s smell of sweat and blood, they still were nicer to be around than Stale-Beer-And-Cheap-Weed-Breath Marty.
— Hey. Heeeeey, doll, what was happening back there?
— Karen is…
— Nah-nah-nah, this is where you should shut up, yeah? Karen isn’t dead. I mean, I’m glad you think she is, it means my prank is fucking awesome.
Prank? Her fucking head was chopped off and then tossed over to the nearest creek when the shorter killer decided that he wants you to perform a blowjob on his knife, making sure that you are licking all the blood away. You don’t think that there are ways to fake this – and if there are, then your friends and their hired goons are no better than actual killer psychos anyway and you’d still want out.
— I saw her!
— Sure you did, hon. Listen, I’m really glad you were the first to notice and everything, but keep it down for now, yeah? I have this sick mask and I was actually planning to prank the group later at night, but if you found it first…
— Prank?! There are two actual killers on the loose, this is the worst time to do pranks! — God, you’re annoying. This is why I fucking asked Jenny not to invite you. There are no killers, alright? Karen agreed to partake in the prank, so she is hiding somewhere in the forest until I’d pull out that sick knife and fucking scare everyone shitless. You were probably hallucinating from booze.
— I saw her severed head!
— Sure you did. Listen – you can help me, yeah? Just rile everyone up a little, then you will come back and say that…hmmmm…that Marty was taken! Everyone panicking, screaming, crying, and then I show up with this big-ass knife and…
You never heard the last of his amazing, perfect, simply brilliant idea – because before he could finish it, his head was impaled with…oh, no. No-no-no, you can’t do this anymore, not so soon after Karen is dead, not when you are still shaking and can barely think straight not when you are far away from others because Marty fucking led you to another secured place just to get his stupid head impaled with a fucking crossbow bolt – something that you only saw in video games or historical dramas.
This was completely silent – the quiet music of the bolt flying through the air, a small grunt that escaped Marty’s lips before he fell to the ground beneath your feet. You didn’t even manage to see from what direction this thing came from, too disoriented to observe the world around you properly. You feel the adrenaline running up again, probably breaking the record for you in the whole year – you jump from the body on the ground, tears dwelling in your eyes. You can’t do it, you can’t do it, you won’t do it, you were never a fighter, the freeze-fight-flight instinct always coming up to curling down in a small ball and sucking on your thumb.
Some people are simply not built for survival – this is a natural order, something that Darwin was talking about. Soft, weak humans are meant to die, meant to be the food for stronger predators, for monsters dwelling in the shadows. Some creatures are never meant to exist – fleshy cute creatures, the ones that melt at the slightest touch, someone like you – when your first answer to a threat is to roll on your back and show your belly to a mountain lion, you just knew that evolution never meant for you to live past the crib. And yet, civilisation allowed you to survive. To thrive even, before you were put in this fucking forest.
You run before everything else can kick in – at least some of your instincts are working properly, adrenaline running through your veins as you are leaving Marty behind, not even bothering to check if he is still breathing or not. The man was never thinking with his head – not the upper one anyway – but you doubt that he would survive a bolt shot perfectly between his eyes, separating his brain in two perfect halves. Like a fucking apple.
You ran
 ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎   ‎‎      ‎    and you ran ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎  ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎  ‏‏‎  ‏‏‎ ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎  ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎  ‏‏‎ ‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎ ‎      and you ran some more
And you ran right into his chest.
Wall of muscles, no less – you aren’t even sure if this is a human’s body, too sturdy and hard and perfect to belong to something less of a Roman statue. You feel tears running down your face, panic not even bothering to settle in – you know you would be dead in the next few moments, brain tragically easy saying goodbye to being intact. A pathetic sob escapes your throat as you are caught for the second time in this night – lady luck might be smiling upon you the first time, but you doubt you can be her favorite for long.
— I thought the rule of escaping was to run away from danger.
This is the tall killer – low voice, secured by the mask, making it almost unrecognizable. You shake as a big, glowed hand goes on your back, laying there heavily. Even more pathetic sounds are produced from your lips, and you are almost ready to beg him for a quick, painless death – his hand is big enough to cover your head and you don’t want to think of the implications that he might crush your skull with just his fingers.
König listens to your sobs, doing nothing but keeping a firm hand on your back, securing you in place. You sob and whine and tremble in his hold – and he was never more hard in his life. What an adorable, pathetic little creature you are. Helpless in his hold – even squirrels can fight, scratching and biting. You were sobbing in his hold like the perfect kleine prey you are, and he could almost pretend this was a hug.
— Tshhh, Hase, don’t cry. I won’t be able to let you go if you’d proceed with those sweet noises, ja?
His revelation only makes you squirm more. You finally try to get out of his bear-like hug – only to realize that all of your little movements and struggles fit perfectly with the enormous, pulsating bulge in his pants that can probably be considered a murder weapon on its own and shouldn’t be concealed since this is an obvious threat to…ah, on second thought, running around from a serial killer who has his monstrous dick hanging out would be worse. Much, much worse.
— Let me go!
You squirm one of your hands, punching his chest. Feels like punching a marble statue – the only thing you are hurting is your own hands. You try to resolve to a different form, jerking up your knee to land a blow on his crotch.
He fucking moans.
— Never knew you were such a fighter, Schatz. But I warned you, aren’t I?
You don’t understand what he is talking about before he suddenly lifts you in his hands, dropping you on his shoulder like a bag of potatoes. You are crying, trying to get away, [unching him with your legs and your hands, all the adrenaline in your veins working solely for the purpose of inflicting as much pain on this enormous figure as possible.
You tug on this weird hood he is wearing – if you are going to die, at least you would die exhausting all possible options, not feeling like you gave up without a fight. This is still a journey of self-respect and deep insight searches for the mysteriously hidden backbone of your body – maybe, yoga classes would be more effective and less dangerous but, unfortunately, you’re not a rich white housewife in her thirties, so not like you have money for a guru who would spend hours trying to convince your ovaries to stop dying on the inside.
— Let!
You punch him on the back, a multitude of well-served punches right into his back. He laughs, spreading his shoulders, cocking his chest forward like you were giving him a massage. With a groan, you made a very deliberate punch right in the middle of his back – and he moans from satisfaction, probably releasing some pent-up tension that he got from killing grandmas and destroying hotels.
— Me!
You tried to kick him in the chest, your legs working overtime as you cosplayed a rabid rabbit – only for him to laugh even more, his arm securing you holstered across his shoulder like your punches meant nothing. They probably didn’t – he is literally still holding a fucking crossbow in his other hand, managing to secure it on his side while moving towards…you only assume it to be a murder cabin because of course those freaks would have a murder cabin, why the hell not – probably with some cool classy furniture made out of bones.
— Go! You finally manage to secure hold on the edge of his hood, yanking it upwards in hopes of actually revealing who the fuck is he – a dirty businessman who doesn’t like those damn kids and their dog to ruin his plans for burning down the forest to create a shopping mall? A nice old man who showed you the road when you were lost, but he is actually on a spree to get revenge on all young people for killing his pet chicken in 1997? One of those creepy guys at the corner store who was weirdly obsessive over you, talked like a serial killer, and was constantly and also came in pair with the guy whose height and manner perfectly resembled a pair of killers that are after you now?
Probably the grandpa.
You yank the mask up and…
Ah.
Of course, he is wearing a freaking balaclava. The only thing that you managed to see were his eyes – blue, icy, pretty, filled with anger as he pulled the hood down, concealing his features again, without you even managing to take a closer look. You gulp loudly, preparing to die.
He smacks your ass with a power that would be enough to break a bone – your only saving grace is that the flesh of your butt provided some cushion, instead leaving a nasty bruise and inability to sit for at least a few days. That is if you would even survive long enough to have problems sitting on your backside. You won’t have such problems if you’re dead, right?
— Quiet, Schatz. I already breaking the rule for taking you too early.
— Br…breaking a rule? Do you have a freaking hunting pact?
— I promised Tiger that we’d let you roam around a little. Make things interesting.
Ah, yes, because letting you go the first time was such a brilliant idea on their behalf. The only reasons you didn’t go straight to the police is because A) You don’t speak rural Austrian German, B) Your phone can’t connect to anything, and C) You don’t even know in what part of the forest you are. Also because you’re scared that the police are going to turn out treacherous people, just like in horror movies, and that it would fucking destroy your trust.
— I can roam around. I can roam around just fucking perfect, ass…
Another loud smack on your ass makes you feel like a misbehaving kitten. He grips your ass through your jeans and you whimper a little bit, starting to cry again as his hand goes straight for the bottom, gripping your cunt through the tough layer of denim. You thank every god you know for making you wear ugly, but protective and thick jeans. Every time his hand goes to cup your most intimate parts, the fabric of your jeans protects it – you don’t even feel too violated when he pushes his fingers even more, desperately trying to get a reaction out of you.
— Language, Hase. Don’t make me discipline you, ja? — Fuck you! — Very gut then. That’s what you will do very soon.
Oh, but the rough material grinding over your delicate, thin panties and the sensitivity of your cunt really makes you feel…something. You won’t want to admit it, he smells like blood and sweat(still better than Marty, but you shut down that thought before it was born because fuck the new abortion laws), and he spanks your ass only to grope your pussy right after – and he also has masterful fingers that are working at the hem of your jeans, making the fabric press even more against the sensitive skin and…
You try to think of something – anything.
Dead bodies, dead bodies, a lot of dead bodies, and there are some dead puppies too and everything is gross and smelly and…ah, it’s not working.
König touches your lower parts with a wide grin under his hood – you’re fucking perfect, a nice addition to their house. You bite when he needs a little fight and you shut up when he touches you – perfect birdie, adorable birdie, Horangi will probably be bitching about spoiling the fun since you’d be stuck with them without a proper chase like he wanted, but the tiger would come around once he’d emptied himself on your warm body just once.
You squirm under his touch, moan and cry and tremble and he can’t stop imagining you in millions of different positions. Stuck in the basement of their house, on your knees like a good girl you are, maybe with some branding or a collar – it’s more of a Horangi’s thing, even though König hopes he won’t have to break you too much until you’d call him daddy – pushing you to their shared bed, making sure that you’re nice and stuck in some open positions, allowing them to take you without much repercussions.
— Let me go.
— Nein.
— Please?
— I like your begging, Spatz.
— It means you’d let me go?
— Nein. You will tell your little friends, and then you will run to the police, ruining our fun. You are not going anywhere.
— But, um…your culprit will be mad, no?
As cunning as you can, you’re trying to seal the seeds of destruction among them. You’re trying your damn best not to act too charming or too fake, just so he won’t fall in love with you for real and would try murder-suicide you, but also with enough charisma checks so you’d actually convince him.
But, it’s not really working – maybe, you aren’t as good at spreading havoc as you thought you were.
— He’d live. We would get to hold you in your house, little one. It’s enough to make him understand my reasons.
It’s definitely enough to make you want to puke. He is fast, not even bothering to check on the body of your friend as he goes past it – he just marks it with something that resembles a piece of torn fabric and pushes some leaves and sticks on the body, probably signalling to his friend to come and get rid of the body – and then he changed your position a little bit, securing a hand on your ass he goes deeper into the forest.
You’re trying to remember the location, maybe counting the trees and every bush that seems like a good mark – but you, a city girl raised on a cocktail of Google Maps and a constant internet connection, have already grown tired of trying to remember everything. Every tree is the fucking same, every turn feels like the one before and, at some point, you were sure that he is actually going in circles to make you understand the location even less. Your blurry vision obstructs the goal even more – you cried so much, it feels like your very eyes gave out. With a sigh of defeat, you metaphorically roll over to your back and present your belly to the predators.
After a hike that felt like hours, but was probably like 10 minutes long – this guy has long legs and the determination of a dog dragging a really cool stick home and, before you know it, you’re standing in front of a…house. Nice house. Expensive house, a big house, something less of a mansion, but more of a shed that you thought he was going to live in because he is literally a serial killer.
Even serial killers made good property investments in the respective years – and you were too busy with useless stuff, like learning how to walk or trying not to choke yourself on a piece of carrot.
— Welcome home, Schatz.
He gently lets you down from his shoulder, allowing you to take a closer look at your surroundings. Normal living room – literally nothing weird. Maybe a bit too much hunting trophies, maybe a lot of guns lying around, some overly manly decorations, and very questionable art pieces but if you’d see that house advertised on the property website, you wouldn’t even consider it too weird. You were expecting…something. Blood on the walls, furniture made out of human flesh and skin, a devilish feast for imps and every like them…
You saw nothing as König punched the back of your head, putting you to sleep.
You fucking hate forest trips.

Korangi mafia au 👀
I don’t know I wanted to Drabble
Horangi shivered in the bottom of his cell, body aching. The men that had been in the room previously had cut him. Using knives to make tiger stripes across his body. He was now… decorated. It had been a very rough week for him.
Horangi tried to sit up while his body burned. It told him to please sit the fuck back down. He should get up. Was supposed to get up. They would come back at any point and finally finish him off. But Horangi couldn’t drag himself up. It was definitely a low point. He knew that all of the gambling would eventually catch up to him, but he didn’t really expect to die here. In some random gang’s members basement.
Someone walked in after a while. There was an unnerving silence before freezing cold water was splashed on him, soaking him to the bone. He swore he felt chips of ice hit his body and the fresh wounds. It hurt so bad that his eyes started to water but he refused. He wouldn’t fucking cry.
“Do you speak my language?” The man had a thick Austrian accent. Now that Horangi was looking at him, he thought he recognized him from somewhere, though he couldn’t pinpoint it. Based on the fact he was here and so nicely dressed, he assumed someone important from some gang or mafia or mob or some other group that wanted his head.
Horangi nodded numbly. He hurt all over. But he didn’t cry. Not once.
“I don’t think you’re worth the amount of money i just paid for you to get released. But you’ll do.”
Horangi frowned. “What?”
“Paid your debts. Hong-jin, right?”
“Prefer Horangi.”
“Horangi.” The man repeated and stood up. He was… very well dressed. Hair slicked back. He was much older than Horangi. His arms were covered with tattoos.
“Why did you pay my debts?”
“Have a job for you. You’re lucky too. They were just about to come down here and…” He mimed putting a bullet in Horangi’s head. “But we don’t need to dwell on that do we? Because I’m going to give you a job. Once you’ve paid off what I paid today, I’ll start paying you. Good money too. If you do it right.”
Horangi’s body reacted. It tensed and it felt like he’d split open where the scarring was. “You’re not whoring me out. I swear to God I’ll fuc-”
He felt them strike his face hard. The rings on his hand cut open his skin. “If I wanted to, I would already be doing so. Wouldn’t have bothered waiting for you to wake up.”
Horangi bit his tongue and looked up at him.
“Now, my guys here are going to pick you up and finish cleaning you off. Then we’re going to go home. You have one week to recover and after that, we’ll talk. You understand?”
Horangi nodded, having a lot of questions but making the decision to save his own life first. He could always escape later. Couldn’t exactly resurrect himself.
“Get him up.” The man left and Horangi felt the other men pick him up like he was a doll. His body dangled to the floor helplessly as they moved him elsewhere. He noticed vaguely he was in a car but everything went dark around the edges and then he was out.
The bed He woke up in was so soft. Someone had bandaged him up. This time, Horangi managed to drag himself out of bed. He needed to find a way out. Debt be damned. He’ll pay later.
He opened the door and almost fell back.
Large man. He had to be close to 7 feet tall. Horangi thought he was a bit… scrawny, but he made up for that in height.
“Hi.”
The man had turned bright red. His hair was a dark auburn that was almost the same color as his face. He had a patch of freckles as well over his nose and cheeks.
“H-hi.” The poor guy managed to stutter out.
Horangi stared at him, a little surprised someone as dangerous and with enough money to pay off the… excessive amount of money Horangi owed, would hire… this guy.
“Can I help you?”
The man held up some bandages and it clicked that he was probably a medic. A waste considering his size, but that’s exactly what he needed right now. With a small amount of hesitation, Horangi had to admit that this was a lot better than dying of infection and surely staying just a little longer wouldn’t hurt.
“What’s your name?”
“Um…”
“Um isn’t a very good name. Mine is Horangi.” He knew he shouldn’t be so mean, but it was a little too easy.
“Most people call me König.”
“König? Doesn’t that mean King?”
“Yes.”
“They call you King?” Horangi very much doubted it.
König frowned at him, looking more and more flustered by the second. “And they call you Tiger?”
“You know Korean?”
“No. I looked it up.” König admitted rather quickly. “Can you lay down for me? You are very injured…”
Horangi slowly obeyed, not really believing that this marshmallow of a man could hurt him. He laid down and stretched. His entire upper half only had bandages. His face had a few too, but he didn’t really want to think about that. They were stretched over his face.
Now that he wasn’t actively bleeding out or freezing to death, he could feel it more. The cuts ran along his spine and then curling down his ribs. They ran over his arms and even to his knees. Along his face, they had carved little lines to represent how much he owed. They had done tally marks for every 1000 euros. He supposed it was better than what they could’ve done.
König was gentle. He unbandaged him and gently cleaned the wounds. His hands were warm and although there were clear calluses on his pointer finger, most of his hands were nice and soft. König also took a considerable amount of care in being nice. No fast movements, no rough pressing of the cloth, not an ounce of unnecessary pressure.
Once König was done cleaning each wound, he carefully bandaged him back up in the fresh bandages. His fingertips grazed his skin and Horangi was surprised by the amount of goosebumps that gave him. It had been a while since someone had touched him this way. It had been while since anyone touched him in general unless it was to hurt him or… worse. He sighed softly and relaxed more.
König patted him gently. “All better?”
No. Not at all. “Feel cleaner. Don’t suppose I could take a shower?”
“After all my hard work? No. If you’re able to stand long enough, I’ll help you shower tomorrow.”
Horangi groaned but nodded. It was fair. The idea of a hot shower was alluring, but he probably could not stand for long enough. He fell asleep and eventually someone brought him food. It was just soup, rather plain soup at that, but he ate it and continued on.
This time, when he went to make his escape, someone was there guarding his door, not about to come in. They simply flashed their gun and made a motion for him to go back inside.
“Need anything, ask. Boss says we need to take real good care of you.”
Horangi did not like the sound of that. He checked his windows but they were nailed shut. His bathroom was nice, but there was only a tiny window at the top that he definitely could not fit in.
Fuck.
Horangi sighed and waited for König to come back. Eventually his back started to pull tight again and he decided to lay down again. Everything hurt. He paused as he left the bathroom and considered looking at himself. After a few minutes of hesitating, he decided to not. He’d wait until he had healed mostly.
So Horangi laid back down and tried to focus on anything other than the ache on his skin. The burn of his muscles when he moved them wrong. He wished he had something for it. Pain medicine of some kind or even just compresses would be nice.
Horangi asked the guard for it and they pulled out their phone to text someone.
König arrive again. He looked just as anxiety riddled and big as before, only now with the added bonus of having dark circles and a small frown.
“Everything alright? I didn’t really need assistance. Just the items.”
König shook his head. “I want to make sure no infection has set in. The wounds are so close to your spine… I worry about what might happen.” He gently pushed him down and put his hand on the nape of his neck to keep him there. Horangi tensed and grabbed the sheets as hard as he could. The position made him nervous but he stayed still.
König examined them again and cleaned them once more. He then put something cold on them while he fed Horangi two pills. They were pretty small so Horangi doubted they’d work until suddenly it felt like he had been knocked flat on his ass. The world melted away and with it all the pain.
König’s hands were magic. They gently soothed away any heat. He blinked and König was tugging him up.
“What are you doing?”
“Don’t you want a shower still?”
“I thought you said tomorrow.”
“It is tomorrow. I forgot you’re smaller. Need smaller doses.” König lifted him with a little too much ease.
Horangi groaned, too tired and sluggish to be mad about the comment about his size or the way he picked him up. “What did you give me?”
“Don’t worry about that. Ill bathe you instead.” König set him down on the sink and Horangi just nodded. He wasn’t wearing much clothing so it was easy for König to undress him. The water turned it and after a few minutes, he gently scooped Horangi back up.
Horangi tensed at the last second above the water, expecting it to be either freezing cold or way too hot, but it was pleasant. Maybe a little warmer than he would normally make it, but pleasant. He melted as König started to wash him. The warm rag ran over every inch of skin. König seemed particularly careful behind his ears and along his arms.
“Do you know what my job is?”
“That’s not something you need to concern yourself with right now.” König smiled at him, red again. Only now did Horangi consider how this might be for him. Poor little anxious man.
“So you do know?”
“...i do.” König sighed. “It really isn’t important.”
“Then why won’t you tell me?” Horangi pressed him but also pressed into his hands.
König grabbed his face, gently cleaning the tally marks and then scrubbing the rest. “I don’t want to upset you. You should be focused on healing.”
Horangi stared at him for a moment. “Is it bad?”
“Depends on your definition of bad.”
“Fine. Define bad for me.”
König hummed. “Well… I consider something bad when it causes me physical harm on a regular basis.”
“With this?”
“Only if you’re bad at it.”
Horangi glared at him and watched him drain the water. He put his thoughts together long enough to cover himself. König wrapped him in the towel and then took him back to the sink, drying him off carefully.
“Is it degrading?”
“I’d consider it well respected.” König smiled at him. He was only slightly blushing now and it was… endearing instead of amusing.
Horangi frowned but just nodded. “Why can’t you just tell me what it is?”
“They haven’t decided if they want to actually give it to you.”
“If they don’t give it to me?”
König looked uncomfortable. “No one will hurt you.” There was a weird amount of conviction in his voice.
Horangi nodded a little. “Yeah, okay…”

“Hey,” MM said casually walking in with bags of food Monique told him to bring, “Where are the girls?”
These days instead of asking for Janine, he was asking after both her and her new friends Monice. The pair are now inseparable.
“Outside with the rest of the kids.” She smirked, pointing her head to the glass windows that gave an overlook of the backyard. Decorated with oversized picnic blankets, fancy plastic silverware and platters to match with the fanciest little snacks and pastries, a foldable table was to the side, filled with various drinks. “Apparently, a day at the pool isn’t enough.”
He smiled as he looked out, leaning against the kitchen counter.
The kids were running around and giggling, fully enthralled by whatever game they had made up. Evidence of food, or whatever was left of it were littered about on the highly decorated plastic platters filled with crumbs, empty boards, and a wooden board with a few stray pieces of cheese. The little sweaty blocks forgotten.
“If they all ate what are the burgers for?”
“You,” Monique pointed. “and her mostly.” You were passed out on the couch. From the slow rise and fall of your chest, and how loosely taught your face was pulled into something soft and smooth. . . peaceful.
He didn’t know much about you, but he knew about your brother. The unexpectedness of taking care of your child and battling whether or not you’ll lose a family member or not.
“You need to be careful.” Monique gave him a look.
His eyebrows furrowed.
‘What are you talking about?”
“Marvin,” she sighed with a hint of frustration. He wasn’t exactly sure why it was there, “How long have I known you?”
He wasn’t sure where this energy was coming from, but he knew when she was asking a rhetorical question. He looked at her expectantly, throwing his hands in the air to show his defeat and wait for her to respond.
“Just because we’re over doesn’t mean I don’t know how you look when you have feelings for someone? Hell, anybody might be able to tell by the way you look at her,” she said pointedly, “and I’m not judging.” She quickly added. “I’m actually really happy for you. It’s time you moved on too. I’m not sure what you're sitting on your hands and waiting around for, but it's obvious.”
He nodded. Her words were unintentionally digging. He wasn’t sure why, but they did.
“Monique, this is. . . She’s different. It’s different.” Fuck he sounded a mess. His words weren’t coming together. He didn’t want to have this conversation, least of all with Monique of all people.
“Just do whatever you did to get me. You're not a bad guy, Marvin,” she huffed out a laugh, “I’d say more but I’m the last person who needs to be singing your praises, and you don’t need anyone to either.” She smacked her teeth.
“We were different.” He shook his head. “It was just me and you back then, but now I’m divorced, I have a daughter who's amazing. . .shit job. . . . but it’s not me I’m worried about,” he looked over at you, still soundly asleep.
You’d been through enough. The last thing you probably wanted was something new.
“You need to be careful.”
“I know,” he huffed, “the thing with her brother, she’s now got a kid, her life’s been turned upside down and she’s grieving—“
“And the last thing she needs is your unresolved shit affecting what she’s already going through.”
“I know,” he said slowly, “that’s why I said that it’s different.”
“How? Because it was so easy for me to accept your bullshit?” She said with an edge.
He winced.
“I didn’t mean it like that.” He apologized. There’s not much else he can say about it, conversation ending itself.
“Look, I’m not trying to fight with you right now–’
“And we don't have to. We’re not fighting.”
She gave him a look and he only raised his eyebrows.
“You can’t hide it forever.”
She didn't give him a chance to respond, making her way over to you. She rubbed gently at your back in small circular movements.
You opened your eyes with a frown. Your brows scrunched together before blearily falling into a neutral expression.
“What time is it?” you stretched.
“Food’s here.” was all Monique said, holding back a smile.
“You didn't wake me when the food got here.” you said pointedly, your voice starting to raise.
“It just got here, and I just woke you up!”
‘No you didn't!” your face pulled into a pout. “It smells cold. You did not wake me as soon as it got here!”
“It smells cold!” She laughed with a perplexed look, “How does food smell cold?”
“Don’t play dumb, Monique.” You huffed, making your way to the kitchen and carefully taking the bun of your burger as well as the cold toppings before putting the rest in the microwave, “it’s not cute.”
Beginning the process of getting your onion rings to put them in the air fryer, you finally noticed him. As smoke spreads across your face. It was the same smoke that always graced its features whenever you first saw him. It never failed to pull at his heart and pull the corners of his lips if not a bit more guarded.
Your warmth was intoxicating.
“Did you bring food?”
“You asked me too.” He said matter of factly with a smile.
“No I didn’t.” You smiled back, looking back at Monique, and then back to him.
“Yes,” he laughed, “you did.”
“You did.” Monique raised her eyebrows.
“I literally have no memory of that ever happening.”
“That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.” Monique raised a finger.
“Eat your food before it gets cold again.” He stopped you from responding to that, knowing how you can get.
You playfully rolled your eyes.
“Leave me alone.”
“What are you so tired for anyway?” He asked, genuinely intrigued, but you couldn’t answer even if you wanted to, your mouth full.
“She’s been up since 2 AM, making the fanciest picnic feast for a bunch of soon to be third graders that don’t deserve it.” Monique answered for you, stealing an onion ring off your plate.
You mean mugged her and pulled up a fist like you were going to hit her, bust Monique only cackled at you. With a huff you sat at the island to eat.
You swallowed the food in your mouth with a frown.
“They do deserve it. Momo and Janine really wanted it and making some food and throwing a picnic blanket on the grass isn’t hard.” You said placidly.
“So pulling Momo out of bed at 2 AM to be here by 3:00 to cook up until 7:00, still decorate the yard, get Momo dressed, and then clean the kitchen,” she listed each in a finger, “ is not hard work?”
“No you shook your head with a smile, “I mean I guess it is, but I like making Momo happy. It doesn’t feel like work when it’s for her.”
Marvin noticed your smile was not as genuine as it was before. How your shoulders were slightly tense as you shrugged them. Your eyes glossed over briefly with a terse gaze, squirming slightly.
To anyone else you’d look fine, but he had a trained eye. He didn’t know you well enough to say something about, but it was getting harder and harder to pretend like he didn’t know something was off with you. He’d usually be on his game about that, but everything about you threw him off.
He ignored the way Monique looked at him because even if she couldn’t notice something was off with you, she knew how to tell things were off with him.
“There’s nothing wrong with going above and beyond for your kid. It’s natural,” he phrased, licking his lips, “but you still need to take care of yourself. You’re just as important.”
“. . .yeah. I’ll uh, I’ll do better at that.” You purse your lips. “For the school year.” You ended definitively, strategically ending the conversation.
He wasn’t having any of it. Opening his mouth he was going to push back. Confront you on your answer and insist you not way so long even if the school year was weeks away at this point. Perhaps just one month away would be more accurate, but Monique gave him a look.
He’d have to talk to you about it alone.
Whenever that would be, he didn’t know. He bit back a sigh. Not wanting to let you know something was up.
You were practically done with your burger, a few bites left, but you’re eyes were fluttering shut. Your fist propping up your head.
“You’re staying here tonight, aren’t you?”
“Why would I do that?” You questioned like it wasn’t obvious.
“You can’t drive home in the state your in.” He scolded, “you can’t even stay awake to eat your food.”
“I’m done eating!” You waved a hand at your plate. “Maybe I was just resting my eyes!” You defend with an actual roll of your eyes.
“Well you can keep resting them on that couch over there for the night.”
“No,” you defiantly stood up and crossed your arms, “I’m going home!”
“I don’t know how you’re getting there since your not driving, and I’m not taking you.”
You huffed, turning towards Monique.
“He’s right.” She gave you a look, much kinder than how you’ve been looking at him the whole time he’s been here.
“Ughhh,” you groaned going back to the couch and aggressively lying down and pulling the blanket over you, “leave me alone, and don’t wake me up,” you huffed, “I’ll wake up whatever time I want to tomorrow and I don’t want to hear anybody complain.”

It’s honestly a crime that the writing just brushed Syntax’s becoming a Spider under the rug. No, he’s fine with it, don’t worry about it. No we’re not gonna explore this, they’re bad guys and we’re killing them off anyway, don’t worry about it.
There was so much room to explore, especially with how Goliath and Huntsman might’ve felt, but no.
I MEAN RIGHT?
Admittedly it's a running thing with LMK to IMPLY a lot and then look at the audience and say 'no followup questions' with their full chests, (like all of the implications of Red Son's home life being kinda fucked but it barely gets touched upon again after season one despite clear evidence that things aren't all fixed in S3 and we're just supposed to believe everything's aces by S4) And the Spiders i think are probably the most egregious example
the deleted character (rip Spindrax regulated to the shadow relm), one of the characters never gets a dedicated episode to see how he acts as an independent agent and that spider doesn't even have a real NAME (which im sure drives you crazy in particular Twinkle) there are IMPLICATIONS of character arcs and backstories and overall POTENTIAL that just got thrown away to show everyone how cool and dangerous LBD was and gave NO hope of rescue.
Back when s2 was airing i thought LMK was sort of like- Building a rogue's gallery- a sort of batman rogues are we type cabal that could keep the adventures fresh and fun and... nope. I would have KILLED for a sort of 'Harley and Ivy' type episode that was focused entirelhy around the spiders, and possibly run it like essentially an Ed Edd N Eddy episode as the spider boys tried running a heist or smth without SQ there to keep them from feeding off of eachother's vibes too hard and it all turning to complete chaos.
LMK has a lot of stylistic influence to Adveture Time, and you can tell they WANT MK to be a Finn type (I mean his place in the mythological system seems to be essentially Finn's Catalyst Comet arc truncated significantly) but you kinda can't make an adventure time style world without understanding that the world belongs just as much to the semi-reformed wizard kidnapping princesses as it does to the hero that kicks him in the boingloins, you know?
and LMK very much belongs ONLY to the Monkie Kid Krew (I mean ive gone on record to say that Tang's arc would have been MUCH more interesting if he WASN'T actually the Monk in a past life and really was Just Some Guy and fully earned his own magic, but that would mean the world was bigger than just the characters designated as important so that couldn't be) and the villains are just pins to set up and knock over in a season and a special's time (if they even get that, sorry Nine Heads)
But as for Huntsman and Goliath's perspectives on Syntax- man i WISH i knew those... I think the ones i like the best are Goliath being... nice but distant to the new guy in like a 'whatever the queen clearly thinks its fine' type way and Hutnsman being like- INSTANTLY thinking Syntax is gunning for his 'position' (whatever it is) and is HYPER aware of him, Syntax is living RENT free in this spider's head because he's CONVINCED that he's after his position in the 'loyalty to the queen' social ladder or smth and meanwhile Syntax, genre savvy as he is is like "oh we're gonna do that thing where we start out as rivals but grow closer to respect eachother and eventually become very close friends and playfully compete with eachother sometimes to keep the spice in the banter! this is fun! ^.^"
Idk sounds like more fun than a pile of dead bodies that don't even get the dignity of being brought back in flashbacks

SAVIOUR COMPLEX (Mark Hoffman x F!Reader) (PT. 7)
(PT. 6)
Rated: M
TAGS: language/past abuse/Mark Hoffman being a c*p/reader's life is maybe becoming less normal/Mark is protective bc it's his job but he's also problematic/because he's a c*p/Detective Gibson is his own tw/kissy kissy
**NOTE: Hey guys. Thank you so much for interaction with this fic, and I’m seeing a lot of new followers. I love that!! But I really need to stress right now how I do not support/endorse C*stas M*ndylor as a person or his opinions. He’s racist and I enjoy and only enjoy Mark Hoffman’s character. If you are a C*stas Stan, I highly encourage you to maybe cease interacting with this fic.**
“To say that this looks bad is an understatement.”
Mark scoffs and paces the Chief’s office.
“Don’t be dramatic.”
“No, let’s go over everything that’s happened tonight. You breach protocol by taking your case out on a date, you bring her to an active crime scene where her boyfriend has just died in a Jigsaw trap, and you are in the FBI’s sights! How is that dramatic?”
“Ex.”
Chief is stunned, baffled and befuddled. “Excuse me?”
“Ex boyfriend.”
“Are you-“ Chief sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose in exasperation. “You’re pulling my leg, right? This is a joke. This has to be a joke because I know you're not this stupid.”
“Watch it.”
“No, fuck it. You’re off her case and you’re suspended until I can figure out what the fuck to do with you. Turn in your badge and gun.”
Mark stares him down. He doesn’t move.
“Do it, or we’re gonna have a scene.”
Mark grinds his teeth, his jaw ticks. He’s holding air that he refuses to sigh away as he slams his sidearm and his badge down on the Chief’s desk.
“Who’s my replacement? I assume whoever it is has her next door in interrogation, right?”
“Questioning.”
“Don’t fucking split hairs with me right now.”
Before the Chief has a chance to respond, the heavy metal doors to the interrogation hall open and close. Mark throws the office door open and sees you passing. He gives you a comforting hand but then leaves when he hears a snort from Gibson. He turns on him and Gibson either isn’t expecting it or doesn’t think Mark will actually put hands on him. On both fronts, he’s wrong, because Mark grabs him by his collar and holds him with shaking arms.
“What the fuck is your problem, Gibson!?”
Gibson pushes Mark’s arms from his chest and shoves him. Not hard enough to hurt, but hard enough to send the message.
“I’m doing my job, Hoffman. Don’t forget, you’re a suspect too, and in danger of ‘reassignment’. Right?”
Gibson huffs and adjusts his shirt. Mark points a finger at his chest.
“You better keep your nose outta things before something happens to it.”
“Is that a threat?”
Mark is about to let him know that yes, it is a threat, when he feels a hand on his arm. He whips around and there you are, staring up at him with empty, dark eyes that are pooling with tears. God, you look ragged, traumatized- you are.
“Mark, come on, please. Please, let’s just go home. Please.”
He softens at your plea. He’ll do anything for you right now, and that includes walking away from this fight. He gives Gibson a final mean look and guides you out of the station and takes you home.
Now, he’s staring out the window of your bedroom as you’re curled against him in sleep, one arm tucked under your head and the other draped across you. He realizes that he probably shouldn’t have even brought you here, but rather have taken you back to his place. You need familiarity, sure, but whoever had been stalking you could still be after you.
That was something else you didn’t know. When you and Mark had arrived on the scene and he saw Ted’s body, it was apparent that it wasn’t…fresh. Of course, he knew that Gibson had to have shown you the photos but there’s no way you were in a state to notice that detail. And it looked like more than a couple days. The death was old…older than the day someone showed up outside your window.
He pulls you closer. Not only is someone imitating Jigsaw- him, not only had that person killed Ted, but they were likely the one stalking you.
It isn’t far fetched to think there’s another Jigsaw copycat; after all, that’s how he got the gig. The difference is that John and Amanda are both dead, and neither of them can handle this so Mark can focus on you. Mark racks his brain to shake loose any possible suspects. Everyone with any hand near Jigsaw is dead except him…and Jill. Christ, what if this is all Jill? Jealous because he has you and she has no one?
But Jill doesn’t have the physical strength to manage this on her own, and Mark’s watched her long enough to know she lives a solitary life. So no, Jill may be possible, but highly unlikely.
It has to be someone you know, or someone who knows him and his feelings towards you. It would be too large a coincidence for it to be a random copycat.
Who? Who?
The good news is that if he's suspended, he has plenty of time to find out.
There’s a banging on the door the next morning. You immediately jump and press your back to the headboard. Mark stands, reaches for his gun and then curses when he remembers he turned it in the night before.
You look up at him in a panic and he raises a calming hand. He glances at the window- nobody there. Goes down the hall and grabs a knife from the kitchen.
A peek out the front window reveals Gibson at the door, tapping his foot, looking around, checking his watch. Mark curses and opens the door, subtly setting the knife on the kitchen counter.
Gibson stops, looks Mark up and down, then cracks a smile.
“Jesus. Wasted no time, I see.”
Mark scowls and his grip on the door tightens. “Careful, Gibson. There’s no cameras here.”
Gibson looks over Mark’s shoulder and into the apartment.
“She around?”
“Yes, she’s in bed, and very fucking traumatized from the shake-down you gave her. That make you feel big, Gibson? Harassing a woman who’s being stalked and just saw her ex-boyfriend murdered?”
“Just doing my job. You know all about that.”
Before Mark can get another word out, you come up behind him, now having donned some pants and a cardigan.
“Detective Gibson. What a…well, whatever it is. What do you need?”
Gibson smiles at you, self-satisfied.
“I’m taking over your case. And with the recent danger, we think it’s best we put you in a safe house.”
Your eyes widen and you push your way past Hoffman who puts a hand on your shoulder. You shrug him off.
“Fuck that! You and your precinct already upheaved my life with this protection bullshit, now you wanna take me away from my job, my apartment? And for what? Jigsaw very clearly has no problem with me!”
“Yeah. Wonder why that is.”
Mark watches as you turn red.
“Besides, not like you’re leaving much behind.”
Mark barely has time to grab you when you lunge for Gibson, who leans away with a chuckle.
“Easy. I can always still take you in by force.”
“Fuck off, no you can’t,” Mark bites. “She can deny if she wants to.”
“Yeah, but that don’t look too good either, does it? Got a reason to stay away from the police?”
“Aside from the fact they’re batting 1,000 when it comes to harassment?”
Gibson looks from you to Mark.
“You don’t seem to mind too much.”
“That’s it-”
Mark is out the door before you can stop him and he slugs Gibson in the jaw. The younger detective stumbles back into the yard and Mark looms over him.
“Get the fuck outta here. And unless you have a warrant, you can tell the chief to shove this whole thing up his ass.”
Gibson stands and spits some blood into the grass.
“Your ass is out, Hoffman. You hear me? You’re fucked!” Gibson shouts and returns to his cruiser, stepping into the driver’s seat and retrieving his walkie-talkie. You run out to get Mark.
“Mark, what the fuck?!”
Mark sighs, shakes out his hand, turns to you. “I’m sorry. I- I can’t stand that prick. He was asking for it.”
“Yeah, no kidding! He was egging you on and you gave him exactly what he wanted. You could lose your job!”
“Nah,” Mark says, shaking his head and heading back inside. You follow him.
“Yeah.”
“I’ll have a word with the Chief, pay some penance, do crossing duty or something for a few weeks. Shit like this happens all the time.”
Mark goes to your freezer and grabs a bag of peas to cradle against his knuckles. When he faces you again, you’re leaning against the counter, chewing on your lip, staring at the imitation marble.
“What?” he inquires.
“Nothing.”
“No, what are you thinking?”
He watches as you splay your hand against the countertop, moving your fingers back and forth. He moves to stand next to you, moves his head to be closer to yours. Nudges you.
“Come on. Let me in.”
You sigh. “I don’t know what’s happening anymore. I don’t think I’m in danger. Or maybe I am. I don’t really care. But…maybe it’s best if we took a break? Just until the dust settles?”
Mark’s heart plummets into his gut and his eyes search yours, his head unmoving.
“You want that?”
“No. No, I really don’t. But I’ll be fine, and you can’t lose your job.”
Because it’s all I have.
Well, that was before he had you.
“Let Gibson take over my case. Once it dies he’ll get bored, I bet. I’m willing to wait.”
You finally meet his eyes and your hand finds his on the counter.
“What if I’m not?” he mutters, his lips so close to yours.
“I mean, I never really pegged you for a patient man. But…”
It’s like you can’t help yourself. Your lips come up to meet his and his hand gently cups your jaw.
Another kiss. One deeper and warmer. Before there can be a third that leads to something more, you pull away and Mark sighs.
“Maybe it’ll die out fast, you know?”
Mark nods at the refrigerator.
“Maybe.”
“Hey,” you say, tilting his face towards you. “Look at me. It’ll be fine. Distance and fondness and all that.”
“I don’t think I can get any fonder, honestly.”
He watches in pain as your eyes flutter through that small confession and a smile pulls at your lips.
“Well, just hold on to it, then. And phones exist, you know?”
He dips down for a kiss on your cheek.
“So do midnight rendezvouses. And windows.”
“Come on,” you gently push against his chest. “Just think of how nice it’ll be when this all passes. Maybe my bed will see some action other than cuddling all night long, hm?”
Mark groans. “God, why would you say something like that when you’re trying to rush me out the door?”
“If I was rushing, you’d be gone already. I’m stalling, actually.”
Another kiss. Then one on the forehead.
“Alright. Go makeup with the asshole outside. Apologize to the Chief. Help kids cross the street or something. I’ll see you soon.”
Mark grinds his teeth but submits, laying the peas on the counter.
“Sorry for defrosting those.”
You smile reassuringly, and it does help him feel like things will be okay. “Maybe we'll eat them next time.”

Alexi Appendicitis
I'm really happy with this! There's so much hurt/comfort. I had blast writing it!
CW: Medical emergency, appendicitis, ruptured appendix, mention of possible death. Do not fear, Alexi is perfectly fine at the end!
-----------------
It was unfortunate that Madix and Riley couldn’t join the gang on vacation when they were the ones who suggested the ski lodge in the first place. They’d been to this winter resort before and knew that their friends would absolutely love it. Despite coming down with a nasty flu while they’d been there, Madix still remembered the trip fondly. Hopefully nothing like that would happen this time around for their friends.
Micah and Alexi ended up getting a room across the hall from Dakota and Blair. Dark wood, lush carpets, and dim lighting made the lodge feel cozy and warm. A fire crackled nearly everywhere they went. It was exactly what they expected and exactly what they needed. The four of them were tired from travel. They sluggishly dropped their suitcases off at their rooms before heading down to the dining hall for a late dinner.
Alexi lingered at the doorway, hesitant to follow Micah down to the main floor where the smell of steak and onions wafted up from.
“You coming?” Micah popped his head back into the room where his boyfriend stood rigidly with a hand over his abdomen.
“I’m not that hungry. My stomach still feels off from the drive here.” He wasn’t prone to motion sickness, but the ride must have messed with his insides because a dull ache still nested above his hip bone. It was an odd place for a stomach-ache. On vacation was also an unfortunate place to get a stomach-ache so bad he felt like his intestines were knotted up.
“I bet there’s tea at the dining hall. That might help settle your stomach.” As Micah said this, he realized that a ski lodge would probably have the best selection of warm teas. Chamomile, peppermint, ginger, you name it, they would help with Alexi’s pain. Relaxing with their friends was likely to take his mind of the ache as well. “Please come with me, Lexi. I want to spend all my time with you.”
“You already do that.”
“Ah but not in a hot tub or by the biggest fucking fireplace I’ve ever seen. Come on, we’ll have a good time, I promise.”
Alexi couldn’t resist Micah’s soft eyes. Of course, he followed his boyfriend to the main hall where the most comforting of food was being served. Mashed potatoes, cheesy casseroles, and baby carrots that shone with a brown sugar glaze. Not to mention all the hot chocolate one could ever need. Alexi figured it wouldn’t be long before his boyfriend found the chocolate fondue that spilled over in a fountain. He decided to eat the fresh fruit that went with the fondue but skipped the thick chocolate syrup.
“Yo guys!” Dakota exclaimed when they met at a table. The table was a literal tree trunk that had been sanded, stained, finished with a glossy layer. Dakota set his massive plate down on the wood. “There’s a whole section dedicated to cheese. I love this place!” Blair’s plate was piled high as well. She smiled and shook her head at Dakota while digging in.
The two of them wore plaid sweaters and warm beanies, really embracing the cozy vibes. Alexi didn’t understand how they could wear such heavy clothing without melting. He wore only a short sleeve shirt and was still sweating. From the beneath the table, he dragged his palm over the sore spot in his tummy, feeling feverish and fatigued.
“You’re being very conservative with your food selection, Alexi,” Blair remarked as she eyed his plate of fruit and crackers. “Kota would be more than happy to show you to the cheese table.”
Micah laughed for Alexi and placed a hand on his back. “Lexi’s still feeling a bit bad from the drive here.”
Blair frowned sadly. “It could also be altitude sickness. We’re pretty high up in the mountains.”
Alexi hadn’t thought of that, but it was very likely. He was dizzy, fatigue, and nauseous. He groaned, realizing that the entire trip would be spent above the clouds. He put his head in his hands right there at the table and let out another loud groan. “How do I make it go away?”
“You just have to let your body adjust. You should feel better tomorrow morning.” Blair quickly pulled out a bottle of Tylenol from her purse. “Altitude sickness can mess with your sleep, so you can take these pills to make you drowsy. It’ll also help with the headache.”
Alexi gladly took the medication. He hoped it would start working fast. “Thank you, Blair.”
“Don’t mention it. I just want to crush you all at skiing tomorrow and I can’t do that if you’re sick.”
Dakota laughed. “Honey, we’re supposed to be relaxing on this trip, not turning it into a competition.”
“Winning is relaxing for me.” She beamed at the three of them and smirked. When her eyes landed back on Alexi, the smile faded from her face. He really didn’t look well. His features were twisted in pain, sweat dripped from his temples, and his eyes were lifeless. “Don’t worry, Lex, you’ll be a worthy opponent by the morning.”
“I hope so,” Alexi said, already falling asleep at the table.
It wasn’t long after that before Micah rose from his chair with a hand on Alexi’s neck. “I think it’s time I get this one to bed. Does that sound good, baby?” To which Alexi nodded weakly.
“Blair and I were going to go in the hot tub later. Do you want to join us?” Dakota asked.
“Maybe. I’ll have to see how Alexi feels.”
Micah helped his boyfriend up and together they walked back to the room. He helped Alexi get ready for bed. The sheets were nice and cold when he got under the blankets. “Go with ‘em in the hot tub,” Alexi slurred as he pulled the blankets up around his neck. “I’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure?” Micah leaned over to kiss his boyfriend.
“Yes.” Drowsy and drained, Alexi drifted off to sleep before Micah’s lips even left his forehead.
• • •
It was not quite dawn when Alexi was woken up by a horrible pain in his belly. His partner slept soundly next to him, hair mussed and snoring softly. Oh, how Alexi would have loved to drift off back to sleep for a few more hours, cuddled up next to Micah. He could imagine how Micah would instinctively pull him closer even in his slumber. It would be warm and safe and perfect.
But nope! His stomach wasn’t going to let him do that. It felt like someone was punching him repeatedly in his abs. Each spasm made him tense up and clench every muscle in his body. He rolled out of bed and staggered to the bathroom. The pain made walking hard, so he shuffled along the carpet like an old man, hunched over and mumbling about everything that was wrong in the world.
His breathing was shallow and rapid as he lowered himself to the floor in front of the toilet. When another sharp stab coursed through his abdomen, he lurched forward with a heave. A decent wave of vomit splattered into the water. He gripped the edge of toilet so hard his knuckles blended into the white porcelain. The sick burned the back of his throat and his nose.
He was in the middle of coughing and clearing the phlegm from his throat when the next wave slammed into him. The pain burst from the middle of his belly, filling his guts with what felt like poison. More sick landed in the water below and splashed back up at him as if to say fuck you.
Alexi groaned. If this was altitude sickness, he vowed to never leave lower grounds again. Sweat drenched his back and armpits, yet he shivered on the bathroom floor. He felt his body losing the battle against gravity. Eventually he lay down completely, resting his head on the soft bathmat. He must have been vomiting for over an hour because when he looked at his phone, it read that it was almost six in the morning. How much longer did he want to let Micah sleep before his craving for comfort and human contact became unbearable? Like Dakota said, this trip was supposed to be relaxing. There was nothing relaxing about being woken by your partner who was whining on the floor.
But Alexi let himself whine and groan because it hurt so damn much. He curled into a fetal position and weakly called out Micah’s name. The first attempt was pathetic. He could barely hear his own gravelly voice.
“Micah!” He tried again. That was louder but Micah stayed asleep. Alexi had left the bathroom door open so he could see his boyfriend from where he lay. There was some tossing and turning from in the bed, but the snoring carried on.
Standing was not an option. Alexi didn’t think he’d ever be able to straighten his back again. He had to protect his stomach that had been churning and aching since he’d been rudely awoken by it. So, yelling it was. “Micah! Micah please, hear me.”
Finally, Micah’s groggy voice came through. “Baby?” It took a while for Micah to untangle himself from the blankets, orientate himself, and raise his head enough to see that he was alone in the bed. “Lexi?” Micah looked around and eventually noticed his boyfriend lying in the bathroom. He jumped up quicker than Alexi thought possible.
“Oh no, honey,” Micah rasped out as he got to his knees next to his boyfriend. He brushed the sweaty hair from Alexi’s face and clicked his tongue worriedly against the roof of his mouth. “You’re not doing so well, are you?”
Alexi shook his head. “I can’t stop throwing up.” He wanted to cry. “Blair said I’d feel better in the morning.”
“She lied to you so there’d be one less person to beat.” Micah smirked when Alexi didn’t. “I’m kidding. I don’t think it’s altitude sickness.” Micah felt every inch of Alexi’s face. His forehead, his cheek, his chin, everything was flushed and alive with heat. “You’ve definitely got a fever. It’s probably a stomach bug, babe.”
Micah hugged Alexi to his chest when the poor boy moaned miserably. They sat on the floor together until the early morning came and went. Alexi vomited on and off until the sun came up. He suffered in pain while the rest of the resort started to wake up. The smell of pancakes and coffee taunted him.
By 9 o’clock, Alexi still didn’t trust himself to stand. His stomach gurgled and churned relentlessly. Coincidentally. Micah’s stomach also started making noise.
“You’re hungry. You need breakfast,” Alexi said. His lips were dry and cracked, and his voice was shot.
“I could use some coffee.” Micah yawned.
“I bet Dakota and Blair are wondering where we are.”
“I’ll text them.” Before Micah could text their friends, a knock came at the door. The two of them looked at each other knowingly. Micah got to his feet. “Can I let them in?”
“Yeah whatever.”
As expected, Dakota and Blair were just as sympathetic and apologetic as Micah when he explained what was going on.
“Shit, man. I’m sorry,” Dakota said as he sat on the unmade bed. Blair chose to pace worriedly. “At least you’ve got the coziest place to recover in.”
Blair continued to walk back and forth in the middle of the conversation.
“I feel really bad,” Alexi said softly. “I never wanted to stress anybody out. I’ll be fine.” Even as he said this, Alexi felt a shooting pain in his belly. He tried to keep his expression neutral as sweat appeared on his forehead. Only Blair seemed to notice the change.
“Don’t be,” Dakota said. “These things happen, and we just want you to feel better.” Dakota couldn’t stop himself from being distracted from his girlfriend who paced the room. He threw his hands up. “Bee, would you stop pacing. It’s a stomach bug. He’ll be right as rain in less than twenty-four hours.”
“I know. I know. It’s just—I don’t know, I’m worried. That’s all.” Blair plopped herself down on the bed next to Dakota. He took her hand and kissed it, claiming that it cured all anxieties.
That’s when Micah spoke up for the first time in a while. He’d been chewing his thumbnail quietly in the corner. “Baby, I’m worried too. I don’t feel good about leaving you alone when you’ve got a fever.”
Alexi had insisted earlier than the three of them enjoy the day while he stayed in the room. He didn’t want his friends to miss out on skiing just because he had a stomach-ache—the worst stomach-ache he ever had, but he didn’t tell them that. Micah had taken his temperature properly with a thermometer and it had only been mild. That had settled it for Alexi. He would rest and his friends would still get to have fun.
“Micah please, you have to go. I’ll feel worse if I keep you in here with me.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, baby. I’m fine.”
“And we’ll only be gone for a few hours,” Dakota added. “We’ll come up and check on you before lunch.”
“That sounds perfect.” Alexi really hoped he’d be able to fall asleep within that time. As much as he wanted his boyfriend to have fun, he wasn’t looking forward to suffering with this pain while alone and conscious. He decided to take more medication that would knock him out and hopefully he’d be right as rain, as Dakota said, when he woke up.
It was six in the evening when Alexi woke up properly. He vaguely remembered seeing his boyfriend around noon when the gang came back in for lunch. He’d been too out of it to say anything. All he knew was that Micah rubbed his back when he had to vomit around the thermometer in his mouth. It took a few tries, but eventually Micah got a good reading. It was still a mild fever.
The pain in his side stayed at a constant 7. It was bad enough that Alexi saw black spots in his vision, but not bad enough that he suspected anything worse than a stomach bug. This particular bug must have found a cozy spot in the corner of his digestive tract. It felt like it was snuggled away in a small nook, causing destruction and mayhem in his belly without moving from his side.
This time, Alexi was awake enough to talk with his boyfriend. He relished the cold kiss that Micah left on his forehead. His boyfriend’s face was still pink and raw from the snowburn. The goggles that protected him from the wind had left marks around his eyes. The slopes had left a smile on his lips, but the worrisome state of his partner was melting that grin off.
“Are you still throwing up?” Micah asked as he took the toque off his head. His hair was a mop of tangles and sweat. He scratched his scalp and was beginning to feel the exhaustion from the exciting day.
Alexi nodded sadly, “It’s mostly dry heaves now.”
“How long ago?”
“Two hours maybe.”
Micah rubbed his thumb over his boyfriend’s warm face. They were polar opposites in that moment; one with frostbite biting at his cheeks and the other with a fever burning through his skin. “Come downstairs for tea with us. I think it’ll be good for you to stand up.”
Alexi wasn’t so sure, but he wanted to spend more time with Micah and his friends. He hadn’t thrown up in a while, so perhaps he could try a stroll through the lodge. His stomach hurt a little less anyway.
He got on his knees which was the easy part. Next, the dreaded moment. He needed to uncurl his back and stretch his torso until he stood up straight. As he righted himself with Micah’s help, the pain flooded once again through his belly. Like electricity, the sparks of pain shot through every neural pathway.
He let out a sharp gasp between his clenched teeth. “Ghah! Micah, stop, stop!” He hunched back over.
“I’m sorry, sorry!” Micah hovered his hands over Alexi’s body, afraid to cause any more pain. “We’ll go slow. Take your time.”
Sweat had broken out across Alexi’s skin. It prickled his forehead and nose. His teeth were ready to shatter into a million pieces with the amount of force he was biting down with. Alexi whimpered and remained bent over like a disciple in a worshipful bow. He must have been praying for the pain to leave his body and soul.
His soul was fucking tired of this shit.
Alexi did not move. He couldn’t. The new wave pain had caused his stomach to churn again. A searing heave tore up his throat as bile and saliva dripped from his open mouth. He groaned and squeezed his eyes shut, letting tears fall onto the floor with the sick.
That is when Alexi began to cry. It hurt so damn much. In that moment, he was sure something was stabbing him. Maybe a bone had snapped off his rib and was piercing his side. Maybe he swallowed a knife, and it was carving its way through his intestines. Whatever it was, he needed it out of his body.
“Micah, help me. I’m scared,” Alexi mumbled as he fell into a fetal position. “It hurts. Take it out.”
“Oh, my baby, I’m right here.” Micah wanted to cry as well. He ran his hands over Alexi’s body. He was burning up. Sweat soaked every inch of his clothes and hair.
“Get it out!” Alexi hissed.
“Get what out?” Micah checked to make sure there was nothing actually stabbing his boyfriend. There was nothing that he could see. He was pretty sure that Alexi was going delirious from the fever. “Baby, there’s nothing.”
“Just help me.”
Micah hadn’t realized that tears streaked down his own cheeks. He wished Dakota and Blair were here to call 911. So, he started to bang on the bathroom wall. He used his fist and called out their names, hoping his friends could hear the noise from across the hall.
It didn’t take long before Dakota and Blair burst into the room. They wore identical looks of shock and worry. Blair nearly slammed into Dakota as she ran up behind him.
“What is going on?” Dakota asked. He took one look at Alexi and knew that this was bad. All three of them knelt on the floor next to Alexi who was barely responsive.
“He’s really sick.” Micah said, his voice shaking. “Call an ambulance.”
Dakota raised his eyebrows. “Micah, we’re on a mountain. How are—”
“Just do it, Kota!”
Dakota jumped back with wide eyes and took his phone out of his pocket as fast as he could. “Okay buddy, I’m doing it. I’m calling.” It was Dakota’s turn to pace around the hotel room, waiting for an operator.
In all the chaos, Blair knew her role. She hugged Micah to her side and remained calm. Her voice was steady and reassuring. “It’s going to be okay. Forget what Dakota said.” She left breathable pauses between her sentences. “They’ll send an air ambulance.”
Micah didn’t take his eyes off Alexi, even as he nodded. “He asked me to get something out of his body.”
“What does that mean?”
“I don’t know. He just grabbed his side in pain, vomited, and then said something was stabbing him.”
Blair looked to where Alexi was whimpering on the floor with his hands pressed into his right side. She began to understand. It wasn’t motion sickness, altitude sickness, or the stomach flu.
“This happened to Dakota and me. I’ll bet anything it’s his appendix.” Blair licked her lips in deep thought. “We didn’t get it this bad, but…he’ll be fine.” She hesitated on that last part, knowing this had gone further than what she or Dakota had experienced. The full truth was that she didn’t know if Alexi would be fine, not if his appendix had ruptured like she suspected, but she wasn’t about to tell Micah that.
They could hear Dakota talking on the phone with the dispatcher. He sounded stressed as he tried to explain that they were at a ski lodge. Micah forced himself to tune out that conversation; it was too panic inducing. He decided that what he needed was to keep holding onto Blair. Her arms were strong and still, wrapped around his shoulder. He stayed in her embrace until things got better.
And things did get better.
The lodge staff came to help. They moved Alexi to a place where the air ambulance crew could get to him better. Micah was numb as he got into the helicopter. He had never been on a helicopter before and was unlikely to remember this ride.
Blair became a guardian angel for both Micah and Dakota. Dakota didn’t like planes to begin with, so his face was chalk white as he got into the helicopter. She sat in the middle of the two boys and reassured them that everything was okay.
As Blair predicted, the ski lodge incident would turn into a scary and exciting story that they told Madix and Riley, because everything did turn out okay.
It was truly scary for a moment there, because Alexi’s appendix had indeed ruptured. Poison had been rushing through his body and would have killed him if they delayed calling an ambulance any longer. Micah nearly vomited on the doctor when he heard that news.
Alexi slept peacefully in the hospital while Micah, Dakota, and Blair loomed around his bed. They whispered but there was no need as the boy was passed out good.
“So,” Dakota started, looking around at their group. “Three down, one to go.”
Blair smacked him on the arm. “Why would you say that!” She turned to Micah. “Only like 7 percent of people get appendicitis.”
“Then I think we’re cursed,” Dakota added. “It’s like someone wants to make us suffer.”
“That’s ridiculous.” Blair laughed, but she couldn’t ignore the fact that the odds were not in their favour. Maybe Dakota was right.
Micah swallowed hard. “Can I get a voluntary appendectomy?”

Welcome to Ficlet Friday! I'd like 🧖🏻‍♀️ and I don't mind the characters, your choice 😊
(also no pressure to get them done by Friday, I tend to spread them out over the week & aim to be done by the following Friday 😘)
Thank you for the ask, Taylor!
Since you were my second 🧖🏻‍♀️ Spa Day prompt, I took it upon myself to write a two-part ficlet. The first part can be read here and the second is below the cut! It's slightly horny, so be forewarned.
(I also am incredibly proud that both of these ficlets clock in at exactly 720 words. So.)
Spa Day Part 2
Alex wasn’t sure what to expect from the seaweed body wrap, but it turns out to be pretty cool. Despite feeling like a burrito for a while and the slightly awkward part of showering naked while his esthetician waited outside the door, he likes it. His skin feels soft and smooth and refreshed. The facial was even better; his face is rosy from all the massage, but it feels amazing and it looks bright and clear. He wants to do this every week.
When he finally lays eyes on Henry again, Alex can barely contain the huge smile that splits across his face. They’re in the communal room, off of which lay the steam room and the sauna.
“Hey baby, how was it?” Alex leans in to kiss him and notices that Henry smells really fucking good. He pulls Alex into his arms and he goes easily, pushing his hands through Henry’s hair, which is still damp from his own post-seaweed-wrap shower.
“It was really nice,” Henry sighs, dropping his nose to Alex’s pulse point. “Mm, you smell good.”
“I was just about to say the same thing to you,” Alex laughs, running his nose along Henry’s neck before nipping at his earlobe.
“Don’t get fresh, love,” Henry chastizes. He counteracts his words by running his hands down to paw at Alex’s ass, pulling them flush. Alex cranes his neck just enough to look at him.
“Are you horny?”
“Perhaps,” Henry grins wickedly.
“We’re in a communal area,” Alex says, scandalized.
“The spa is closed just for us,” Henry replies, leaning down to kiss him softly.
“Save it for after the massage, baby.”
“Mm, don’t want to,” Henry moans, dipping his head to mouth along Alex’s throat.
“I know, but by then we’ll be really relaxed and all oiled up.”
“Well that’s tempting,” Henry grins, raising his head to meet Alex’s eyes.
“Come on.” Alex takes Henry’s hand and pulls him into the sauna.
Alex is thankful that their massage therapists are women; it’s probably good that Henry doesn’t have a young, buff man rubbing him. Alex’s therapist is older and unattractive, so at least there aren’t more factors working against his attempts to stay modest. The rubbing in all of Alex’s sensitive areas is one thing, but listening to Henry moan his way through his massage has Alex half-hard where he’s face down in the massage table. He’s hoping and praying that it goes away by the time his therapist asks him to flip over.
At first, Alex tries to engage Henry in conversation. However, he quickly realizes that listening to his breathy voice occasionally cutting off with a groan when a muscle is released is doing nothing for Alex’s situation. He tries to focus on his own massage and some deep breathing exercises, and by the time they finally flip over, he’s actually pretty relaxed. Alex hears soft snoring and looks over to see Henry asleep. He smiles to himself, knowing that Henry hasn’t slept well since before he went to London.
When the massage ends, Henry’s therapist wakes him gently and the two women slip out. Alex sits up slowly, stretching out his muscles. He feels fucking good.
“So?”
Henry looks over, blinking sleepily. He yawns.
“I feel bloody fantastic.”
“I knew you would,” Alex grins. “Ready to head back to the room?”
“Please. I think I could go right back to sleep,” Henry says as he stands and pulls his robe back on.
“Really? Because with the exception of the last 15 minutes, I had to listen to you moan all the way through that massage. I kept hoping we wouldn’t get kicked out for indecency.” Alex chuckles and steps over to wrap his arms around Henry’s waist.
“You’re one to talk,” Henry says, leaning down to kiss him. It’s chaste and sweet at first, but Alex deepens it, his breath hitching when Henry pulls back. “Alex,” he whispers.
“Yes, baby?”
“We need to get up to our room now.” The deep, husky quality of Henry’s voice has Alex nodding enthusiastically. “Yes, please.” He takes Henry’s hand and pulls him out the door. The time it takes to get back up to their room feels interminable but Alex knows it will be worth it. Henry thinks he’s relaxed now, but Alex’s isn’t done with him yet.

For word thing: stairs, hurt, bed
Thank you thank you friend!
All from thought i wanted love ('til you showed me what it was):
Bed
Jamie heard the door open, and his skin prickled in warning. He had to get out of here. He had to go. The nurse turned her head and spoke to the man. “He woke but started to become agitated. Not uncommon with head injuries. Especially if he was mugged, poor lad. We’re giving him something to calm him down.” Mugged? Had he been mugged? Where? When? The doctor injected something else into his IV, and the man stepped closer, and the nurse moved to allow him space. Jamie tried to move deeper into the bed but whatever they gave him was working, and he was struggling to stay awake. Jamie felt his eyes drift close, but they snapped open as the person by his bed spoke.  “It’s okay, I’m here now,” Every voice in his head screamed at him to get out of there, but the darkness pulled him farther and farther away from consciousness. The man’s words reached through the void, grabbed him and held him down as he struggled to free himself.  “You’re safe, son.” Dad.
Hurt
“Did, did they call Mummy-Mum?”Jamie coughed, Dad wouldn’t like him calling Georgie Mummy. He’s not going to like Jamie asking after her at all. “Did they call Mum?” Mummy was his emergency contact and they would’ve called her. She and Simon will be here soon. They’ll make Dad leave. They’ll sort it all out while his brain was too concussed to do it himself.  “They said they did, but the woman didn’t answer. Probably busy working or with that husband of hers. You know how she is.” No, James didn’t know how Mummy was. She had never put Simon before him. And bless Simon, he had never expected or wanted anything different. If Mummy knew he was in hospital she would be breaking all sorts of speed limits and sound barriers to get to him. Fuck, his head hurt.
Stairs
“Dad?” Jamie called out weakly. He didn’t want to attempt the stairs on his crutches when he was already unsteady, but he also knew he should be resting his ankle.  “Dad?” he tried again. Jamie wasn’t sure if he wanted his father to hear his cry or not, but Jamie didn’t have any longer to think as James appeared at his bedroom door. “Ah, he’s awake,” James smiled, and Jamie got fresh goosebumps on the back of his neck.
As for the sprint, I did a total of 45 minutes and added 700ish words, some concussed Jamie spiralling for your pleasure.
Roy was going to fucking kill him, letting his father back into his life like the fucking idiot he was or if he really had gone and gotten himself mugged. Either way, he would be in the dog house at the dog track. “Didn’t even have the prick signal, and you managed to out-prick yourself anyway,” the older man would likely say, or something similar, because pissing off a stranger seemed much more likely than a random mugging.  Roy would be pissed at him, but Jamie couldn’t deny the safety he felt at the thought of his friend and coach.  He’s here, he’s there, he’s every fucking where Roy Kent.  Well, where the fuck was he now? Disneyland Paris with Phoebe, he remembered belatedly. Fuck.

Augusnippets Day 26: Nightmare - Jamie
I've had this idea in my head for a long time, and this was a great opportunity to write it. I suspect that I might expand on it in a larger fic later, since I really loved writing this situation.
Anyway, here's Jamie, with caretaker Colin!
------
Jamie leans his head back, pressing it into the brick behind him, as he gazes up at the night sky. He shivers in the cold air, wearing just a t-shirt and pants. He closes his eyes, appreciating the peace of the night.
A breeze ripples the air around him, making the grass wave lazily, and more goosebumps spring up across his arms. The fresh air seems to penetrate even the foggiest depths of his mind, and he manages to forget the nightmare that drove him from his room, if only for a few minutes.
Then his silence is interrupted, with the sound of hurried feet padding across the damp grass. As the person rounds the corner of the building, towards where Jamie sits, he hears them frantically call “I found him!”
It’s a voice he would recognize anywhere, and he’s immediately grateful that Colin’s there.
Colin crouches down next to him, and says “Hey.”
Jamie has to laugh at the mundane greeting, but it’s a quick sharp laugh, so unlike his normal carefree laugh that it has Colin immediately on edge.
“What happened Jamie? You know, everyone’s pretty worried about you.”
“Why is everyone up in the first place?”
Colin rolls his eyes at the feeble attempt to change the subject, before replying, “They’re looking for you. You woke up Keegan when you left, and when he couldn’t find you and saw that your shoes were gone, he kind of panicked. What are you doing out here?”
“Oh… uh. I just had to. Get out. You know?”
“Um, no, not really, and that didn’t really answer my question.”
Jamie shivers again, the dampness from the grass starting to seep into his clothes. Colin frowns at this, settling into the grass next to Jamie, and wrapping an arm around his shoulders.
Jamie leans into Colin’s embrace, and starts to quietly explain.
“So, I guess I fell asleep tonight, because the next thing I knew, I was waking up and the walls were… the room was getting… it was too tight, I needed to get out, I couldn’t think.”
“Keegan thought you might have had a nightmare or something.”
“I guess, maybe, I don’t really remember it. It was just dark and tight, and I can remember the voices, but that’s all.” He squirms as he describes it, visibly upset by the reminder.
Jamie presses his face into Colin’s shoulder, as if he’s able to protect him from the nightmares, and Colin bites down a smile at the adorableness of the action. His smile vanishes though, when he registers the unnatural warmth from Jamie’s body.
Suddenly it all makes sense.
“Jamie, you have a fever.”
“Wait, what? I do?”
“Yeah, you’re burning up!” Colin places his hand on Jamie’s forehead, to double check, and there’s no mistaking the heat he feels.
“Oh, that actually makes a lot of sense.”
“You probably shouldn’t be outside with a fever… Do you think we could head inside?”
Jamie knows he should probably say yes, and he knows he can’t stay outside forever, but going inside feels impossible.
He shakes his head, cuddling closer to Colin.
“I can’t Colin. It’s big, and clear, and I feel better out here. Inside will be tight and small and dark, and… I can’t.”
Colin’s always been good at rolling with the punches, and it only takes him a moment before declaring, “Okay, then we’re going to need supplies! And we should probably tell Keegan what’s going on before he loses his mind.”
Jamie nods in agreement, as Colin pulls out his phone.

Random shit ft the WC crossover au, go
No one really knew where Giantstrike was from.
The first memory anyone ever had of him was when Holysnow found him wandering around outside of camp. It had been a clear, quiet, frankly boring day and the medicine cat had been looking for something to do, so he’d gone out to gather herbs, stumbling upon a kit nearly the size of him. The only reason he recognized the kit as such was because his paws seemed a bit too big and his ears a bit too fuzzy.
He had half a mind to leave the giant kit to fend for itself, but he also knew the warrior code decreed that he HAD to help him, so he led him back to camp to meet the Clan.
The kit later explained that his parents had gone missing one night, and that he’d been wandering around for a few days trying to find them, eating bugs and such to survive. When asked about his age, he said he thought he was about 5 moons old, as he’d seen the full moon about 5 times, but he wasn’t quite sure exactly how old he was.
Holysnow consulted the leader about this, and they came to the conclusion that the new kit could become an apprentice alongside the next generation, which were all due for an apprentice ceremony within the next moon or so. However, there was one thing left to do.
After a few hours of discussion, Holysnow asked the kit for his name.
“My name? Uhmm… I dunno… I don’t really remember… Mama didn’t call me much, I usually stayed right next to her, and I don’t think Mama and Papa talked about me,” he mumbled out, his voice, however gruff it may have been, still another clear indicator that he was just a kit. He probably wasn’t used to his name yet.
“Then we shall call you Giantkit until you become an apprentice,” Holysnow decided for the kit, before walking off to tell the leader.
“‘Giantkit’? ‘Apprentice’? What does that mean?” the silver tabby asked the other kits, crouching to get closer.
“Oh! I know I know! Most of us are named after what we look like! Like Muddykit and Lavnderkit, and me! Goldenkit! But soon we’re gonna be Muddypaw, Lavenderpaw and Goldenpaw, and you’re gonna be Giantpaw!” a yellow kit announced enthusiastically, bounding around as she motioned to her friends.
“Why are our names gonna change?” Giantkit asked, a bit confused, before a kit with a mottled brown pelt stepped in front of him.
“Because we’re gonna turn into apprentices! We’re gonna get to leave camp and hunt for the Clan, and fight off all the badgers and foxes!” he said, seemingly excited for the new title.
“Yeah, our moms said that when our kit fluff is gone and we grow into our paws, we’re gonna become apprentices! We’re all really close, and so are you, so you’re gonna become an apprentice with us!” exclaimed another kit, silver that looked almost purple.
“Ugh, do we have to become apprentices with him?” he heard a sudden, much snarkier mew behind him, and turned to see an oddly thin, lanky kit leave the den.
“Don’t be so rude, Stickkit, he’s new!” Goldenkit defended, running up to stand nose-to-nose with the other kit.
“But he doesn’t know anything about Clan life! That’s the point!”
“We barely know anything either, mouse brain, why do you think we become apprentices before we become warriors?!” Muddykit pointed out, standing beside Goldenkit.
Stickkit looked around for a moment before spotting another kit attempting to leave the den.
“C’mon, Ratkit, back me up!” he asked the black kit, but the kit just looked at him, tilted his head and left the den without a word, heading towards the small pile of fresh-kill near a cluster of ferns. Stickkit growled to himself before pushing past the other two kits and trotting over to a den bush, slipping under it.
“What was that all about?” Giantkit asked as the two came back over to him, tilting his head.
“Stickkit doesn’t like new cats, he thinks everyone who’s not a Clan cat is stupid,” Goldenkit explained, shuffling her paws. “He’s mean, I don’t like him.”
“Don’t worry, Giantkit, I’m sure soon you’ll know just as much as we do!” Lavenderkit assured him.
“Yeah,” Muddykit agreed, “One day, we’re all gonna be great warriors!”
-
“And you did become great warriors! You’re the best hunter in the Clan, Muddyspots is the deputy, Goldenscruff is super fast and Giantstrike scares away all of the big, scary animals because he’s even bigger!!” Skullkit cheered, pattering his little white paws on the ground.
“That’s right, and Sticksnap learned that cats outside of the Clan aren’t stupid; they just live differently,” Lavenderclaw added, looking over at Sticksnap and Velvetfur, “Didn’t you?”
The lean brown cat rolled his eyes, leaning into his fluffy mate. “I suppose I did…”
“See, you two? Everything works out. Giantstrike became a great warrior, and Sticksnap learned a life lesson. A perfect story!”
“But wait, what about Ratkit? What happened to him?” Pumpkinkit asked, “We don’t have a warrior with ‘Rat’ in his name now!”
“That’s…” Lavenderclaw thought, before sighing.
“That’s a story for another time, Pumpkinkit…”

A story about a girl wanting to find out the truth
A/n: chapter seven!
Warnings: mentions of death
Milly’s POV:
After a full night of sleep with Calum next to me, I woke up the next morning, pretty relaxed. With the soft smell of vanilla, probably still from the scented candles we put on yesterday, I got out of the cuddly bed after noticing that Calum wasn’t next to me anymore. Every once a week, he gets up before me, carefully, so he doesn’t wake me up, and prepares breakfast with the things I love the most: pancakes, breakfast tea (yes, I am a full brit when it’s about that), honey, peanut butter and fresh fruits. It is a tradition we picked up from Calums mum, who did it for him and his sister when they were little. I, sadly, never got to experience that since my mum had to work a lot during mine, Louis' and Félicité's childhood. When we were older, we sometimes tried doing it for the younger kids, but 3 to 4 teenagers (ages 14-17) in a kitchen is not working out in the slightest. You simply couldn’t call the pancakes pancakes because they were burnt half of the time. But we had fun doing it and it helped keeping the mood up in the rainy Doncaster.
As soon as I stepped out of the bedroom door, I already heard Calum moving and working in the kitchen. When he saw me entering the room, he gave me a sweet smile and I myself felt like the honey he put on the table at that moment. How can someone be that perfect?
"Good morning beautiful!" He greeted me and gave a quick kiss on the cheek while carefully turning around the delicious looking pancakes in the pan.
"Morning, thanks for doing all this." I said, not really knowing how to thank him for all the extra work he does, just for me.
"Oh, no need to thank me, I love making you happy!" My Calum. He’s simply the best. "Come on, sit down princess, I'll do the work today!"
————————————
After the long but definitely good breakfast, me and Cal spent some time talking about upcoming events.
"We’re putting together a tour list at the moment. Should I show it to you, so you can think about coming to some of them?" Calum knew, I‘d love to just come with the boys on tour, but my job of course didn’t allow me a break of 6 months, so I‘m always very involved in the tour planning with the boys, to get to see them at least 3 times.
"Yes, I'd love that. By the way, how’s the album, how many songs do you have?" Calum and I are both very introverted and private about our job life, so even though we understand each other blind, we mostly don’t really have that much knowledge about one another’s job.
"We got around 5 songs where we are pretty sure, we’re gonna put them on the album they’re simply amazing." He sighed. "But other than that, we seem to have a lack of inspiration at the moment. All of us." It felt good to have a complete platonic talk with him, not even wasting a single thought about the whole googling-the-names thing because if I'm being honest I am kind of scared about that. I'd rather just not do it and pretend it isn’t even there.
Before I could answer Calum, we heard the doorbell ring. We looked at each other. "Did the boys say, they want to come today?" I whispered at Calum. He just shook his head as a response.
Slowly making my way to the door, I wondered who'd have the idea to visit us at a Tuesday morning at 10 am. Opening the door, the familiar face of an irish person, wearing one of his beloved cardigans in a soft baby blue and his strong accent when he said:
"Missed me?" Made me jump into his arms, screaming because of how happy I was to finally get the chance to see my best friend again.
"Nialler!! I missed you so much!"
Me and Niall definitely do have some history. As soon as Louis got put into 1D and the five lads started to hang out more, I of course also met them, shortly before I went to Australia for the exchange year, and immediately became best friend with Niall. You know, these weird people where you think, they have to be dating because they act so couple-like, but are actually just best friends? Yeah, that’s us. I remember having a very exhausting 30-minutes talk with Louis just because he was convinced I was hiding the fact from him that I was dating his friend Niall (which I‘d never even dare to do, he would’ve killed me) and then couldn’t believe we literally were JUST friends.
I really hope no one ever finds these chaotic photos from 2013 on my phone where I was on tour with them. Me and Niall used to cause so many problems and make the most chaotic things ever, but it was the best time of my life, even now.
"Why are you here though?" I asked after letting go of him. He looked at me with a huge grin on his face, showing he loves being with me as much as I do.
"I haven’t seen y'all in too long and since I do not have anything to do at the moment, I thought why not visit my bestie and her Australian boyfriend in this little city called Adelaide." Calum approached us from behind laying his arm around my shoulder.
"Not to mention that we just talked yesterday." He said, earning a confused look from me.
"I sent him songs." Calum informed me. I pouted.
"I didn’t even got to hear them, but you are showing them to my bestie?“ I asked. Niall simply couldn’t stop laughing, he wasn’t used to the daily banter me and Calum had whenever other people were around since he wasn’t visiting us that often, mostly also busy with touring, songwriting and promoting new stuff.
But that only made me even happier he was there right now.
"Come inside!“ I said to him, stepping away from the doorstep, to let him in our house.
The break I took from work, originally for other reasons, was the best idea ever. I got to catch up with Niall and we talked about the last year that we haven’t seen each other. Currently, all of my musician friends - which are basically all of my friends - are working on albums and preparing a world tour, also including Niall. He’s writing songs, already played some for me, and is gonna call his second album 'Heartbreak Weather' because of his breakup last summer, his songs representing his feelings to different times during the relationship.
"And how are you?" He asked me, after he literally talked for over 1 and a half hours about himself and how he’s doing. But I totally appreciated it, catching up with my friends, especially with him, was something I always enjoyed.
"I'm… good." I said, not sure, if I'd upset another important person in my life with breaking the current news to him. So that sentence seemed to describe my current state pretty perfectly.
Niall raised his eyebrows, immediately seeing through my lie, simply debating if he should say something about it. He decided to just let me go with it right now.
"Okay, that’s amazing!" In this moment, Calum entered the living room again, sitting down exactly in the same spot as yesterday when I came home and had that horrible conversation with Lou. For a moment, I couldn’t focus on what the two of them were talking about. I got lost in my thoughts, having a flashback from yesterday, how Cal comforted me, understanding how much Louis words hurt me. Is Louis okay now? Is he still angry? I stared at the spot on the comfy couch and stopped breathing for a second.
"Milly?" Calum said, waving both of his hands in front of my face.
"Sorry, what were you saying?" I responded, snapping out of the weird situation I was in seconds ago. I was completely unsure and also scared what just happened, it felt like, someone held me underwater and I couldn’t break out of it.
Both of the men looked at me with a both worried and concerned look in their face.
"Are you okay? You are really pale." Calum said, softly placing his warm hand on my shoulder. Was there fear in his eyes?
"I'm not feeling so good right now, I’m gonna go upstairs for a bit." Seeing the worried look Calum gave me as he let me go, I added: "Don’t worry, I just forgot to take my medicine this morning." Which was the truth, I indeed forgot to take my pills to make sure my blood pressure stays okay and I don’t faint all of a sudden, but I never got this weird feeling from not taking them.
Cal's POV:
Of course he was worried when he saw her go up the stairs in a very slow pace, also scared she’s gonna faint on the stairs. But Niall asked him a way more important question in the mean time, he couldn’t seem to ignore.
"Why are both of you acting so strange? Please don’t tell me it’s nothing, I know there is something going on."
As much as he felt like ignoring this would be the best idea, his inner voice didn’t stop telling him that if he’d talk to Niall about Milly’s father’s death, everything will get a little easier, he won’t have to handle the whole situation and his knowledge completely on his own. Someone else would know.
"Milly is searching for her biological parents." All of the color in Nialls face who was sitting right beside him, suddenly vanished and he nearly got as pale as Milly was before she went upstairs.
"Oh no…. How is Louis?" Niall seemed to know that he doesn’t have to worry about his best friend, Calum would take care of her. But he knew Louis better than anyone else, he’s too protective to just not care.
"He and Milly had a fight on the phone yesterday, she was away for 8 hours and forgot to answer her phone while visiting the empty house of her biological parents." Calum explained the poor situation between the two siblings. He continued telling him about everything else Milly went through yesterday, not leaving out a single detail, and Niall got more and more uncomfortable on the sofa. When he finished a awkward silences stood between them, like a wall was built up in the middle of the sofa, Niall being the first to break it.
"And you? You seem to deal with something too." Calum definitely was surprised Niall also noticed that, since Calum tried hiding it pretty successfully in front of Milly, as much as he could tell.
"Well…" He tried thinking about a more gentle way of explaining his misery to Niall, but didn’t get a single idea. "I googled their names. I know I shouldn’t have done that since Milly basically forbid me to do anything without her consent, but I just need to protect her you know?" He took a deep breath before continuing.
"I found a obituary. And-" His voice cracked, he didn’t know how to finish this sentence, why he even started it in the first place.
Niall placed both of his hands on Calum shoulders.
"What happened?" Calum could easily spot the fear in Nialls tone.
"And it said that her father died right before her birth, that’s probably why she was adopted." He finally said it out loud. How relieved he felt. He finally got to say it.
But Niall obviously wasn’t very happy about that piece of information.
"He’s dead?" He asked one more time, getting a little nod from Calum. Milly really didn’t deserve this. She is such an amazing girl who is already dealing with so much in her life, death sadly being an important part of it. He'd love to just hide it from her for forever and make sure she never finds out, just to protect her.
"You have to tell her." Niall then said, much to Calum’s surprise.
"But Niall, do you understand this? He died, Milly maybe won't recover from another death in her family!" He tried explaining it to his old friend with a desperate tone in his voice.
"But what do you think will she do if she finds out, he boyfriend knew all along? Be happy that you tried 'protecting' her? She’s not gonna appreciate your concern for her, not this time Calum!" He got louder and louder, causing Calum to bring more space between them by sitting back a bit. He knew, Niall was right, he already felt it last night that his decision isn’t the best. But something in Calum still made him believe that this is the best way of dealing with the current situation.

Adorable
Pairing: past Steve x Tony, Clint x Nat, Bucky x Steve Warnings: Dry humping
Part 8 of Housemates
Tumblr media
The next day, Bucky was there as soon as visiting hours started, a little gift in hand. He was happy to see Steve sitting up and looking a lot better. “Hey, handsome.” He said brightly. “You’re looking better.”
Steve blushed at that. “Feeling a lot better. Especially now that you’re here.”
“I brought you something.” Bucky sat on the side of the bed. “I went to the actual store because the gift shop always has lame stuff.”
Steve chuckled. “You didn’t have to. I’m almost back to normal.” He smiled. “But thank you.” He added as he took the small bag. He pulled out a little sketch pad and some drawing pencils. “Wow, this is nice. I always need these.” He beamed. “Thank you.”
“Figured you may wanna sketch until I can bring you home.”
“Can’t wait to go home.” He nodded. “Will you play with my hair again?”l He asked shyly.  “It feels nice and makes me sleepy.” He admitted.
Bucky smiled. “Sure.” He thought he meant right now and moved up to the top of the bed. He got comfortable and started to play with Steve’s hair.
Steve blushed brightly. “Oh, this works.” He leaned into him.
“Glad you’re a normal temp today.” Bucky chuckled. “You we’re burning up yesterday.”
“You could just say I was hot.” He teased.
Bucky grinned. “Missed opportunity.” He liked this flirty side of Steve. “Your room is all ready for you to come home. Fresh bedding and the bathroom closest to you is clean.” He told him.
“Thank you.” He said softly. “I’ve never had someone do all this for me.” He said honestly.
“Nat said you get the stomach flu once a year. Stark never helped?” Bucky didn’t like that.
“He cared but he wasn’t hands on.” Steve admitted. “He’d text me every few minutes from work and would send food.” He shrugged. “I would just sleep in a spare room because I didn’t wanna get him sick.”
Bucky frowned. “Do you prefer that? I know I can be too much.”
“I don’t think I prefer it, but after three years, that’s what I’m used to.” He shrugged.
Bucky shook his head and continued playing with his hair. He’d take care of Steve as long as he’d let him. “Movie when we get home?” He suggested.
“Buck, you need rest too.” Steve sighed, even though a movie just like this would be so nice. He enjoyed being close to him.
“I got some sleep last night.” He promised him. “And how straining can relaxing while watching a movie with you be?” He teased.
“I dunno.” Steve hummed. “I’m still all gross.” He moved away a little.
Bucky rolled his eyes, shaking his head. “You’re not gross.” He pulled him back gently. “I can run you a bath when we get home.” He offered. “That might help you, too.”
The blonde huffed and allowed himself to lean against him.
Tumblr media
That weekend, Steve was back to himself, but couldn’t bring himself to stop leaning into Bucky. “Still tired, Stevie?” Bucky rubbed the back of his neck gently as they sat on the couch. “What would you like for lunch?”
He blushed. “No, just comfortable.” He sat up with a chuckle. “But how about I make us some BLT’s?”
“Okay.” Bucky smiled. “We can relax outside after?” He offered. “And Nat and Clint will be here tomorrow, so I’ll probably run to the store later if there’s anything you want to add to the shopping list.”
“Right.” It had slipped his mind. He wasn’t really sure where him and Bucky stood and hoped Nat wouldn’t ask. Or that Clint wouldn’t be...Clint. “I can go with you? See if anything catches my eye? I’ve been in the house since I got out of the hospital.”
“Sure.” Bucky nodded. “Get you some fresh air.” He smiled. “Sounds like a plan.”
Steve nodded and went to make lunch for them, thinking of what to make for tomorrow. He knew that Bucky liked plums, so maybe he’d find some kind of plum dessert.
“If they want to sleep over, the couch pulls out.” Bucky informed him. “So if we drink they don’t have to worry about getting home.”
“Okay.” He smiled at him. “Perfect. We’re probably grilling right?”
Bucky nodded. He liked when Steve grilled. “Burgers, hot dogs, all that.”
“Can’t wait.” Steve nodded. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen them. And now we can all hang out.” He said brightly. The last time they planned to hang out Clint got called into work. “I’m gonna look up a dessert recipe to try before we head to the store.” He told Bucky as he handed him his plate.
“Thanks.” He beamed. “I’ll look up grilling stuff and dip ideas.”
Tumblr media
They worked well as a team and by the time Nat and Clint showed up the next day, they had an entire spread going. Nat came in, bags in hand. “I brought stuff for some mixed drinks.” She smirked.
“Oh, I’ll help.” Bucky grinned, going to pull out their glasses.
Clint grinned at Steve, wiggling his eyebrows. “So, enjoying life here?” He teased.
“I am, yeah. Bucky’s a great housemate.” Steve said casually. “Neighborhood is nice, I’m close to work…” He shrugged, starting to prep some burgers to grill.
“Mhm.” Clint chuckled. “I’m sure he’s great.” He patted his back as Bucky came out and set the glasses down.
“Nat said this one is sweeter for you.” Bucky handed one to Steve. “She knows how you like your drinks.”
Steve took a sip and knew it meant she just poured it heavy. “Thanks, Buck.” He smiled. “Thanks, Nat.” He looked over to her, earning a wink from her. He blushed and focused on cooking.
Clint put some music on. “This is nice!” He grinned. He got comfortable in a chair. “We should visit more often.”
“Won’t argue there.” Bucky chuckled. He refilled the drinks once it was time to eat. It was a nice day out, so he figured they’d spend most of the time out there. Nat connected the sprinklers after the meal and everyone changed down to bathing suits. Not that anyone complained about seeing the others like that.
They were on their fourth drinks when Steve made it more obvious he was watching Bucky. “Buck, want me to get you more dessert?” He gently tugged at his arm. “It’s plum.” He reminded him. “I know you like plums, so I made sure to make it.”
Bucky grinned at him. “Before bed? I love your desserts.”
Steve beamed, looking like a happy puppy. “Works for me.” He agreed, finishing off his glass. Nat came over to talk with Bucky and sat half on his lap to whisper into his ear. The brunette laughed and Steve pouted. Looking away, he got up to make another drink. He wanted to sit on Bucky’s lap or the other way around. He felt Nat should be on Clint’s lap.
“Refill?” Clint came up behind him. “This stuff she gets is good.”
“Yeah, that’s what I came over for.” He chuckled lightly.
“Sweet.” Clint refilled them both. “Might as well take some to them.”
“That doesn’t bug you?” Steve asked, motioning to them. “Her being on him?”
Clint blinked. “No.” He shrugged. “They’re close friends.” He grinned suddenly. “Oh, you’re jealous.” He nudged him. “I’m sure you could sit on him and he’d really like that.” He encouraged. “Or pull him on yours.” He suggested. “I think he’d like either.”
Steve’s cheeks were a dark pink between the alcohol and the images in his head. “Maybe.” He cleared his throat and they went back over to them.
“Thank you!” Nat smiled and stood. She kissed Steve’s cheek. “You’re adorable when you get all rosy.” She told him. “Isn’t he, Bucky?” She looked over at him.
Bucky was already looking at Steve and nodded. “Very adorable.” He winked at him.
He ran a hand through his hair, his eyes going from Bucky’s face to his lap. The brunette sat back as if inviting. He fixed his shorts slightly, hoping Steve would take the hint. Steve glanced at Clint who nodded. Swallowing, he tried to seem casual as he carefully went over and sat. He was used to being close to Bucky, but this was the closest they’d been.
Bucky grinned and rested his hand on Steve’s thigh as Clint started telling one of his stories. He was really enjoying Steve sitting on his lap, and hoped that it happened more often. Neither him or Steve paid much attention to what Clint was saying.
Steve leaned back and rested his head against Bucky’s shoulder, hand sliding to Bucky’s and intertwining their fingers. He smiled as Bucky gave his hand a small squeeze. They stayed like that until Nat pulled them up to dance. Anyone who would glance to their yard probably would have a laugh as no one was coordinated at this point. Steve did his best to keep Bucky close, making even less coordinated.
Bucky laughed, shaking his head. He pulled Steve’s hips close to his. “Better?” He asked, his voice low.
“Much.” He grinned.
Bucky saw their friends kissing out of the corner of his eye and grew brave enough to try and kiss Steve. It took a moment before the shock wore off and Steve kissed back. The kiss was instantly heated and they stumbled onto the grass. Luckily it was dark enough at this point. Bucky rested himself against Steve, smiling into it.
Steve ran a hand through his hair and whined. “Grow it out again?” He asked, licking his lips. “Bet it was great to tug, and it was so hot.”
Bucky nodded quickly. “I’ll do anything you want.” He kissed his jaw.
“We’re taking your bed!” Nat told Bucky as Clint was carrying her inside.
“Which one?” Steve asked, laughing.
“Yours!” She said before they were completely inside.
“So, head inside to my room since yours is occupied?” Bucky asked.
“Want me to carry you, too?” Steve ran his hand down his back. “I like holding you.” He pecked his lips.
Bucky chuckled. “I think we’ll barely make it up as it is.” He stood and tugged his hand to stand. “You can hold me once we’re in bed.” He promised. “And even when we’re not. Hold me whenever you want, Stevie.”
Steve groaned and gave him a deep kiss. “Can’t get enough of you, Buck.” He rested his forehead against his.
Bucky beamed at him. “That’s okay. I’m offering everything I have.” He kissed him. “Can we go make out?” He asked, really wanting to get back to kissing him. “We can talk more tomorrow when we’re sober.” He chuckled.
Steve nodded quickly. His mind was clouded with Bucky and Bucky only. He wasn’t thinking about the aftermath. As soon as they were in Bucky’s room, he kicked the door shut and let Bucky pull him to bed. Steve straddled him as they kissed, grinding against him. He was way more brave when he had drinks in him. Bucky groaned, his hands on Steve’s hips.
Steve kissed down his neck, sucking a dark mark. “Shit, Stevie.” Bucky gasped. “More.” He scratched down his back.
“You like being marked up, Buck?” He asked, kissing over his jaw.
“So much. Everywhere.” He bucked his hips. “Mark me as yours.” He breathed.
Steve groaned and did as he asked. He loved having his mouth on him. He loved the reactions and sounds it pulled from Bucky. Grinding his hips down, he shuddered slightly. “I could finish like this.” He mumbled.
“Me, too.” Bucky helped Steve move his hips. “Lemme hear you.” He felt Steve had the prettiest noises. “Come undone for me.” He urged him, close himself as Steve moved his focus to his collar bone.
Steve gasped and nuzzled in his neck as he got close. “Bucky.” He groaned as he finished.
Hearing Steve groan his name had him finishing moments later. The two of them panted against each other before lazily kissing. Bucky rubbed Steve’s back gently, feeling closer to him.

have a seat child lemme tell you a tale
ok so we’re doing this
@thepermanentscowl i'm just going to post this here because...no one looks at my blog anyway lmao and i don't care
i'm just going to pray i don't look back at this and regret telling you embarrassing shit but fuck it we ball and also i trust you.
warning: this is probably going to read like a shitty cringy school fanfic (look i have girl friends who use wattpad so i am cursed with knowledge okay) but this is absolutely 100% true.
warning #2: there’s a lot of meandering but i won’t apologise because. it’s my story and i’ll tell it however i want.
warning #3: if it seems like it gets a bit dramatic towards the end it’s because i got sad.
overall warning: very long. unedited. full of random shit. read at your own risk.
ANYWAY prepare yourself to read a love story better than romeo and juliet, than jack and rose, than even twilight. prepare to read the most beautifully tragic romance ever.
where do i begin.
Ok so when I was in fifth grade, I had the misfortune of somehow landing in the worst class an idiot child like me could end up in. I was never the “quiet kid”- on the contrary, I was always the one jumping on tables and getting sent out of class- but being with people like my classmates made me a Sad Boi for a whole year. You know, 10-11 year-old kids who’d just realised romance was a thing and who felt the need to incorporate it into every aspect of their dumb almost-middle-school lives. Every day was ‘OoOOHhHh wHo dO yOu LiKe’ or ‘oOOOhHHh wHo ArE yOu LoOkInG aT’. I couldn’t really blame them for getting over-excited, maybe I was just boring for my age. Anyway, I morphed into a kid who spent his lunch breaks sneaking books from the senior library and consulting a mini Oxford dictionary whenever I was in doubt, which was often.
It wasn’t just the teasing that got on my nerves, it was that my classmates were those pre-adolescents who’d later grow up into those wannabe Am-EHRIK-en teenagers- thinking they were so cool and sporting superior ‘Oh you don’t watch so-and-so hot boy’s Youtube channel? How saa-yad.’ airs that made me want to gag. I digress but whatever.
Needless to say, the Oxford Pocket dictionary was my best friend that year.
From a kid who ran into school bright-eyed and beaming every day, I turned into one who dreaded the prospect of entering a class with fresh hormone charged, irritating-beyond-words kids who were more concerned about some low-life’s Youtube tutorials than playing Tag. I did not care about next year. I was going to stay a silent emo kid planning murder at the back of my class forever. Was…what I thought.
___
I hadn’t even bothered to look at my 6th grade class list properly when we went for the end-of-the-year PTM. I was mildly surprised that I’d been shifted to a class with a completely different set of kids, many of whose names were unfamiliar. It’s probably going to be a repeat of last year, I thought. Whatever, just keep your head down and find something good to read. And let them think you’re the snooty class-topper who looks down on everyone else. You don’t care what they think of you, anyway.
Those were the sunshiny thoughts running through my head when I walked through the corridors on the first day of sixth grade, ignoring the kids running around and chattering happily with their friends, completely oblivious of the fact that one of those kids was running way too fast without looking- in my direction. Next thing I knew, I felt a body slam into me, knocking me to the ground. I fell on my school bag, the other kid fell on top of me. He immediately got up, but I barely saw him. I was too busy opening my bag to check if my books were okay- and they were, by some miracle. No damage. It was only when I breathed a sigh of relief that I became aware that some kids were asking if I was alright, and the boy who had run into me was apologising profusely and looking very guilty. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at the boy warily. Wildly curly hair, glasses askew, shirt untucked. He looked like one word- trouble. ‘It’s fine’, I said to him. ‘I’m fine. Stop saying sorry.’ He looked relieved.
I got up and began to walk to class. The boy fell into step beside me, and said ‘You’re Arya, right?’
I looked at him, surprised. ‘Yes…how do you know my name?’
He seemed excited for some reason. ‘Um, I saw you at the inter-house Spell-Bee last year. You were really cool. I didn’t even know half the words,’ he grinned.
I looked at him properly for the first time. He came to my shoulder, he had brown wide eyes, and he spoke really fast and animated, like an RJ.
I found myself grinning back at him. He had the most infectious smile.
‘I’m Vishwesh!’ he said very excitedly.
‘Sounds like “fish”’ was the first, highly intelligent thought that I blurted out and immediately hated myself for saying. What the hell, I thought. WHO SAYS THAT TO SOMEONE THEY JUST MET?!
Vishwesh stared at me. Then he laughed. ‘You’re right, it does. Hey, you can call me that if you want.’
I was confused. ‘Sure? You want to be called Fish?’
‘It sounds funny. I’ve never had a funny nickname. And we’re in the same class.’
We were? What a coincidence. At least there seemed to be one guy I could be friends with.
Fish walked me to our class, talking about last night’s cricket match that I hadn’t watched. I decided that I liked his voice. A little higher than most boys our age, frequented by voice cracks. His constant stream of chatter was weirdly soothing. I usually got really annoyed by people who didn’t know when to shut up (still do btw).
We climbed up the last flight of stairs and stood at the doorway. I stared.
The first thing I saw was a boy standing on a table and scream-singing “Thunder” while a bunch of other guys ran around him like they were summoning a spirit. The second thing I saw was a group of girls throwing a tennis ball at each other. One of them threw it a bit too hard (obviously, an accident. Obviously.), and it sailed out of the class and hit our (female) chemistry teacher- who was flirting with our (male) biology teacher- right in the face. The chem teacher stormed into class yelling at the girl (who was making a heroic effort not to laugh), while the bio teacher took the opportunity to go pasta la vista, and the demonic chanting of “thu-thu-THUNDAH” just grew louder. It was the most chaotic scene imaginable. Fish looked at me and chuckled. ‘Better get used to stuff like this.’
I almost shed tears of joy.
I’d finally found my people.
___
Surprising most people including myself, Fish and I got along like a house on fire. Classic anime trope- short idiot delinquent boy who’s actually really nice becomes besties with the tall brooding introverted topper (not to bRaG). We bonded. Even though we were…different. He was fun. And he brought back the dying fire of fun in me.
I also became pretty close to the aforementioned Thunder-boy and Tennis-ball-girl- their names were Tanmay (yes, that guy with the plane and bomb knowledge) and Nadia. Who were. Also grade toppers. Somehow.
Apparently Fish had joined the previous year and had become fast friends with Tanmay.  The kids in their section hadn't been shuffled at all, except for me. I was the only one who didn’t already know everyone. But that changed pretty quick. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, it felt like I’d known them for ages. Especially Fish (which is what I ended up calling him all the time).
Initially, I got the feeling Tanmay disliked me (he did). I felt this hostile energy radiating off him whenever Fish started fanboying about Eminem to me. I guessed he felt a bit put out that his best friend had betrayed him, but it’s not like he completely ignored Tanmay. I tried talking to him too, but I was often snubbed. Idiot. Anyway, I soon used his weakness (Imagine Dragons) to charm my way into his heart and boom, Tanmay suddenly loves me. The three of us became a really tight friend group. But Fish and I always did practically everything together.
I guess it was because we complemented each other really well. Fish was absolutely reckless, and he needed moi to make sure he didn’t kill himself (mom energy lol). I’d grown too withdrawn, and he helped me loosen up. And we both loved cricket.
Once, we were hanging out near the school swimming pool. It’s open and the adjoining compound opens into the school owner’s mansion. The brick wall that separates the school and house isn’t high, but no nut would dare trespass.
Except my nut best friend.
He was trying to show me this trick with his ID card, and accidentally flipped it too high. It sailed over the wall and onto the owner’s manicured lawn. We both looked at each other. Before I could say, “Don’t even think about it,” Fish had taken his shoes off and hauled himself up with the agility of a small monkey, and jumped to the other side. I held my breath and waited, and soon his head popped up over the wall, followed by the rest of his body. He sat there and swung his legs, and we realised that he’s made a Miscalculation. See, the owner’s plot was a level higher than the school ground level. So he could jump to the other side, no problem. But he couldn’t jump back to this side without breaking his ankles. So he had to carefully turn and feel for a foothold on the brick wall while hanging precariously by his fingers.
Climbing down a wall is often a much more terrifying ordeal than climbing up one, especially for a barely five foot tall child. He tried to act cool but I could see his hands tremble. Fish’s foot was just a few centimetres above a hold he couldn’t see. He gingerly placed one foot on it. Then the other.
Then he slipped.
I caught him.
I staggered back, but somehow, somehow, I didn’t lose my balance and fall and kill us both. I set him on his feet.
He beamed and waved the retrieved ID like a medal. ‘Mission accomplished.’ I laughed.
‘Thanks, dude. I thought I was gonna die. When the hell did you get so strong?’ He punched my shoulder.
‘I’m not strong, you’re just small,’ I grinned and ruffled his hair.
Fish scowled. ‘How dare you insult me? I’m not small, you guys just grow abnormally fast.’ He said that in a highly offended voice, but he was smiling.
‘Who said I was insulting you? Being short isn’t a bad thing, you know,’ I was still grinning at him. ‘Short people are cute.’ And with that I slapped his back (not gently). He howled with pain, scowling at me when I laughed at him. In revenge, he pulled my cheeks really hard. Normal affectionate guy behaviour. I almost threw him into the pool, but a P.E teacher caught us and took us to the headmistress for “causing a ruckus”.
The consequences when she found out Fish had climbed into the owner’s compound were…not pretty. I was let off because I didn’t technically do anything lol.
I don’t know why I typed out that (painful) incident but I just remembered and it was funny. And it proves the point of Fish being An Idiot who would do anything without hesitation. We did a lot of shit together. Good times.
Sixth grade was really fun, it helped me go back to being the silly kid I had always been. Even the girls weren’t jerks like the ones in my old class, they were really chill and funny. Before I knew it, the academic year had ended.
Through that summer, I desperately hoped I would have the same classmates. Sometimes my school would shuffle random classes, and the teachers had threatened our Very Disciplined Class that we’d all be separated in seventh because no one could handle such “hooligans”. I don’t know why they would say that. We were absolute Sweet Children™. Anyway, the gods must’ve taken pity on me because there was absolutely no shuffling in seventh, except one new girl who’d joined that year, and she was nice enough. I was over the moon.
Teasing and shipping was prevalent even in sixth, but it was never beyond a limit. I didn’t care about it.
If it was even possible, Fish and I grew closer that year. Both of us had grown, but I was still taller. I was one of those kids who shot up in middle school but stayed the same height after that, while all the other guys grew taller than me in high school. Sad.
___
There was a sort of cult that started in sixth and continued in seventh- the Percy Jackson cult. Everyone in my class was reading it, almost at the same pace. I started reading it late, so by the time I was done with The Last Olympian, most kids were already on The House of Hades. But I was fast, and I was catching up.
Since everyone was reading pretty much together, they all reached one scene in HOH before me. And that scene created a HUGE uproar.
I remember walking into class from the bathroom one morning, and Tanmay ran to me like Sonic and yelled ‘DUDENICOLIKESPERCY’.
‘What?’ I said. ‘Nico? The Hades kid?’ I still hadn’t started HOH.
‘YEAH, HE HAS A CRUSH ON PERCY. LIKE, HE’S IN LOVE WITH HIM.’
‘Oh,’ I said. ‘Okay.’
To be honest it didn’t exactly shock me or anything. That a guy could like another guy. I didn’t understand why Nico would like Percy of all people but hey, I get it. Percy is Percy. Apparently the Cupid scene became the most disliked part of the books, because soon everyone was cussing at him and crying over Nico. Someone engraved “FUCK EROS” on the wall. I visited my old class a few months ago, and it’s still there. Nico was a really popular character in my class so. I guess the reaction was understandable?
‘Hey, stop spoiling it for him!’ Nadia (best girl friend) scolded Tanmay. ‘He barely started Heroes of Olympus, how would he understand the context?’
‘Wait, but Percy’s still dating Annabeth, right?’ I asked. They nodded. ‘So…it’s a one-sided crush? That’s…sad.’
‘I knowwww, right?’ Nadia sighed. ‘I hope he gets a boyfriend by the end. My poor boy deserves it.’
‘Apparently he dates Will Solace,’ Tanmay added very helpfully, before either of us could stop him. ‘And what do you mean, “my poor boy”? He’s older than all of us, he’s not your son.’
Will Solace, the Apollo kid? Damn, I thought, while Nadia and Tanmay started fighting over spoiling stuff before reading them yet again.
‘Anyway, did you expect that? Nico being gay?’ Tanmay seemed unable to let this very interesting topic go. ‘I don’t know,’ I said. ‘I got the impression he liked Annabeth.’
Tanmay was going to say something, but Fish entered the class just then. He ran to him and repeated the question with the same enthusiasm. Fish didn’t really seem to care; he was more worried about a math test he did not know was going to take place until two minutes ago.
He walked straight to me and asked me to write all the formulas for the chapter on the board and explain some tough sums to him. ‘Why do you always ask Arya for help with homework and stuff?’ Tanmay raised an eyebrow.
Fish and I blinked at him. ‘Be-cuhhhhhhs he’s smart?’
‘Well, so am I!’ Tanmay said indignantly.
‘Are you seriously jealous?’ I snorted. T glared at me. ‘Even…even Nadia’s smart, why don’t you ask her?’
Fish looked at Nadia. ‘Uhh she is, but, I don’t know?’ He grinned. ‘Are you jealous?’
Tanmay was considering the both of us carefully. ‘Nope.’
‘Great,’ Fish said, pulling me to the whiteboard and shoving a marker into my hand. ‘Then let me get the help I need to pass.’
___
Middle school boys have the irrational urge to seem cool physically (for the girls or for their own egos, who knows), which is why arm wrestling became a favourite pastime at some point. Teacher disappears for five seconds, you suddenly have an arm wrestling ring in the middle of the classroom.
I took part in them too. I guess that moment when the back of your opponent’s hand makes contact with the table filled me with some sort of heady joy because I wasn’t necessarily the strongest guy in class. I’ve heard girls snicker that arm wrestling is just an excuse for guys to hold hands and I wonder if that’s true lol. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t.
I don’t know if my feelings for Fish were purely platonic at this particular point, or ever. I don’t think I’ll ever know.
Some people talk about a moment when they “fall in love”. I don’t know if I believe that. I don’t know if it’s actually possible. But I guess this is close enough for my “at that moment…I knew”.
It was a free period. I was arm wrestling with Fish. The class was cheering. I was winning easily.
Fish was frowning from exertion. ‘Damn it,’ he panted. ‘Have some pity on me.’
‘If you’re going to try and distract me, it won’t work.’
‘You’re clearly winning, there’s no point anyway, Ari.’
‘Ari?’
‘Heh, like Ariana Grande, no?’
‘“Ari” means “rice” in my mother tongue.’
‘Then we make a pretty good South Indian meal together, eh?’ (Rice and fish curry. Both of us are South Indians)
I smiled, but said nothing, just concentrating on his arm inching closer to the table with every passing second.
And then he did something that knocked the breath out of my lungs.
He said my name.
Okay I- I know that sounds crazy. Fish must have said my name a gazillion times before. But somehow…when he said it then…the world stopped for me. I know it sounds cheesy as hell. But. Just. The way he said it. The way he just quietly said ‘Ah-Ree-Ah’ as if to himself, those three ordinary syllables that made my name, as if he was trying out their taste on his tongue and he wasn’t sure what to make of it, as if he was trying to see if it sounded special, as if he was trying to find something in it-
I went still, boisterous class and stupid wrestling match be damned. I stared at him as a shiver ran down my spine and something went tight in the base of my neck. He hadn’t noticed. He was able to gain on me, slowly pushing my arm down as my grip and my concentration wavered. The class whooped at this plot twist, oblivious to my internal panic.
But it only lasted a second.
I pushed down viciously and slammed his arm onto the desk as my friends erupted into cheers. Fish winced slightly and flashed his signature lopsided grin at me. ‘Good match, dude. You work out or something?’ He joked.
He didn’t seem to know what he’d done to me. For one second, I hated him with an intensity I hadn’t felt in a while. For one second only. Then I was flexing my wrist and laughing with him like nothing happened.
___
I guess some part of my brain had dimly registered that this was probably what kids were constantly snickering about- a crush. Did I have a crush on my best friend? When did this happen?? I wasn’t sure what to do with that information. I wasn’t sure it even mattered.
Maybe I was just a tiny bit more jumpy around him now that I was maybe sort of aware. Maybe I was a tiny bit scared. Of what? I wasn’t sure. Of him? Of myself?
I didn’t care.
He was still my dumb best friend. We still hung out. Nothing mattered. Nothing was ever going to change. And I didn’t mind that. As long as I could laugh at him making a fool out of himself and help him with math and create stupid games together, I didn’t mind.
It wasn’t going to make a difference.
___
Around the middle of the academic year, I began to notice a slight change in Fish’s behaviour. He started being more…touchy-feely? I mean, most guys in middle school (and forever after that too, actually) have zero regard for personal space around each other. Drape your arms around your bro’s shoulder, he won’t mind. But now it was different. Maybe it was because I liked him and hence was hyper-aware of every tiny thing he did, but I noticed. For starters, he jumped on me. Literally jumped onto me from behind. A lot. Then I’d give him a piggyback  ride to wherever. As bros do. I thought I would get used to it but he always managed to take me by surprise and almost kill me lol. And there were other things. He’d grab my wrist or my arm a lot.
As the year went on, the stomach-somersaulting sensations got worse. And I think sometimes, I ended up staring at him like an idiot without realising it. Embarrassing.
I don’t know what Tanmay is made of, but man figured out something was up very quick. I finally worked up enough courage to talk to him because I was a confused muddle of emotions and I wasn’t sure of anything anymore.
I told him I thought I might like Fish. Yes, might like. I think even though I’d sort of accepted it, I didn’t necessarily want it to be true, if that even makes sense. I was in denial, basically.
T listened to me rant and stutter without a word. Then he asked me a really simple question that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t considered earlier- ‘Do you feel the same way around Vishwesh the way you do around other guys? Like me, for example?’
Of course I didn’t.
‘Dude,’ Tanmay wasn’t even trying to hide his smile. ‘You like him.’
I said something intelligent like ‘Uh. No. I mean, maybe. I don’t know. Shit. I don’t know. At all.’
Tanmay rolled his eyes. ‘Okay, I was wrong. You like him a lot,’ he corrected helpfully.
I consider myself lucky to have him as my friend.
___
Tanmay promised not to tell anyone, but with the way I was acting and with the way Fish was suddenly…different somehow, other kids caught wind of something. They talked. And, yeah, we were shipped. Kind of. I didn’t like it only because Fish got all uncomfortable and then he’d get mad. He stopped jumping onto me like a monkey. He stopped sitting near me. All that, I could deal with. Quite honestly, I didn’t blame him for that.
Then he stopped talking to me.
He’d straight up ignore me. And obviously, that made everyone talk more.
There was a new girl I mentioned, who joined our class that year? Suddenly, she became besties with him. And he’d always talk to her very pointedly while she giggled and shit. I don’t care that this is the jealousy plot of every gay romance ever- I was burning with jealousy.
If he wanted to play like that, fine. I didn’t give a damn.
I ignored both of them pretty well.
I was angry. I was angry at him for caring so much about what we looked like that he found the need to convince other people there was nothing between us. If there wasn’t, then what was the point anyway?? Was our friendship really that fragile that one barely considerable “rumour” reduced us to strangers trying to get each others’ attention by not giving each other any attention?
And then there was the girl. She was fine when I first met her, but maybe I was just pissed off in general, but she started to piss me off more. That was probably unfair because she didn’t even do anything except talk to him when she knew I was looking.
Tanmay seemed very amused that I didn’t know what was really going on. ‘She likes you, duh.’
‘She what now?’
‘Classic girl trick. Give your best friend more attention than you to make you jealous.’
‘That…is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.’
‘It’s girl stuff.’
‘I don’t get girls.’
‘Yeah I can see that,’ he laughed. I glared at her. I saw her blush and that made me angrier. She did make me jealous- jealous of her.
‘You need to stop hating on her.’
‘It’s her fault.’
‘You know that’s not true.’
‘I know…I just…this all sucks.’
‘Maybe you should stop being such a jelly little boi.’
‘I am not being a “jelly little boi.’
‘Don’t lie to meeeeee, someone’s jellyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy-’
‘Please stop-’
‘aRi’S JeLLyYyYyYyyYyy- wait. Oh. My. God.’
‘What?’
‘I just realised…if you’re jelly…and he’s…Fish…’
‘Oh my god don’t you dare-’
‘The both of you make JELLYFISH AHAHAHAHAHAHA-’
‘I hate you.’
___
So. Yeah. Nothing really improved after that. Fish still avoided me like the plague. I caught him looking at me sometimes. I pretended not to notice. But on the inside…I missed him so much it physically hurt. I didn’t get why shit had to be so complicated. I wished everything would magically go back to the way it was.
Tanmay still hollered “JELLYFISH” at us sometimes. He liked to embarrass us that way. Maybe it was his way of trying to get us to laugh about dumb shit and talk again. I appreciate it, but it never worked.
Until the last day.
I will never understand why I chose that day of all days to confront him. What a crazy coincidence.
10th March, 2019.
Home time.
Kids were walking out of their classes, bags slung on their shoulders, happily going home. Like any other day after school ended.
Fish was walking out, too. I watched him. He resolutely turned the other way, his footsteps measured.
I couldn’t take his shit any more.
I grabbed him by the shoulder and turned him around to face me.
He was still shorter. His eyes, wide and brown, didn’t sparkle with mischief the way they did when I first looked into them.
I yelled at him. I shouldn’t have. But I yelled into his face about how he was acting like a dick and how I just wanted to be friends again and how he was acting stupid and it felt like he didn’t care about me at all and that I trusted him and if the thought, the thought grossed him out so much, that he and I could be-
I ran out of air. I just looked at him wordlessly. I didn’t know who I was angry at.
He looked back. He didn’t have anything to say either.
His silence infuriated me more than anything he could have said. I was about to turn away-
when he caught me. He caught my arm. The way he used to.
I froze.
I couldn’t breathe.
The sound I heard next shattered the horrible silence…and my heart. (dramatic music intensifies)
Fish sobbed like the world was going to end.
He was clutching me tight, so tight it hurt. The front of my shirt was wet- with his tears. I felt dizzy. What the heck was going on? If anyone should be crying, it should be me-
‘I’m sorry,’ he whispered into my shirt. ‘I’m so fucking sorry, Arya. I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m sorry.’
I can still hear him say those words, clear as day.
The next thing I knew, we weren’t hugging anymore. The image of his tear-streaked face was plastered in my mind as I staggered out of school and walked home, the only depressed soul amidst a crowd of cheerful middle school kids.
That was the last time I ever saw him.
Because the next day, school announces shutdown due to a positive COVID-19 case on our street. And that shutdown was followed by a nationwide one.
Idiot messages me two days later saying he’s moving away to another country and he didn’t want to tell me because he was being an asshole and he felt miserable overall.
I wasn’t even sure I was angry anymore. I was so tired of being angry at him. I was…sad I was the last one to know. I was sad he was moving away. Sad that things seemed to end like this.
We never really talk about that. I don’t know if we’re pretending it never happened, or we’re just acknowledging that neither of us really knew what the heck we were doing. Stupid middle school shit.
We talk now, and I don’t like him like that anymore. Out of sight, out of mind and all that I guess.
That doesn’t stop me from wondering What if? though.
