One thing I love about TF2 is that it’s a game that generates stories. I won’t remember that time I played New Super Call of Duty U Deluxe Plus Ultra Premium Edition with new Funky Mode and got called slurs or whatever.
I will remember White Pikmin, that Engineer main who saw me disguise as a Sniper in the sewers and stared me down for a full minute before we started trying to kill each other (I lost that fight btw). I’ll remember that time BLU gave me tips on how to play Spy better in chat and then I promptly used those exact tips to kill them all and push the payload the last couple inches needed to win. I’ll remember airblasting a Spy out of midair off the edge of Upward and then feeling so proud of myself that I wasn’t paying attention and got hit by a rocket… which knocked me out of midair off the edge of Upward.
I’ll remember all the funny and unique people I talked to in chat, all the ridiculous names I’ve seen pop up in the killfeed, and each awesome and/or stupid moment I experience, because that’s the real heart of TF2- the experience, not the game.
#tf2#i also like this about minecraft#and space station 13#and spelunky#and some others but those are the ones i have off the top of my head

Nirvana Celebrate ‘In Utero’ 30th Anniversary
Nirvana have announced a deluxe reissue of In Utero for the 30th anniversary. To say that Nirvana's third and ultimately final studio album In Utero was one of the most impactful records of the modern era would be an understatement. Originally released September 21, 1993, In Utero's unadorned sonic rawness was received by critics and fans with equal measures of shock and elation, as Steve Albini's recording laid bare every primal nuance of the most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl would ever record. And with its 1991 predecessor Nevermind having sold some 30 million copies and causing a seismic pop cultural shift, In Utero was essentially the first record Nirvana would make with any expectations from the public. So from the opening quasi-shamble melodics of “Serve The Servants” through the bittersweet closing strains of “All Apologies,” In Utero was the sound of the most incredible yet conflicted musical force of the era at the peak of its powers coming to terms with a generational spokes-band mantle they'd never seen coming—and ultimately surmounting these struggles to make the record they needed to make. In Utero went on to mark Nirvana’s first #1 debut on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified 6x platinum in the United States. Geffen/UMe commemorates the 30th anniversary of In Utero with several multi-format reissues, arriving on October 27, 2023. Configurations include a limited-edition 8LP Super Deluxe box set, 5CD Super Deluxe box set, 1 LP + 10” edition, 2CD Deluxe edition, and a Digital Super Deluxe edition. Pre-order/Pre-save Nirvana – In Utero: 30th Anniversary HERE. The three Super Deluxe Edition releases comprise a total of 72 tracks with 53 previously unreleased tracks. Among the unreleased material, two full In Utero-era concerts, namely Live In Los Angeles (1993) and the band’s final Seattle performance, Live In Seattle(1994), are included in addition to six bonus live tracks from Rome, Springfield, and New York. Seattle producer and engineer Jack Endino—who helmed the band’s 1988 debut Bleach—reconstructed the live tracks from stereo soundboard tapes for this year’s reissue. Additionally, In Utero’s original twelve songs, along with five bonus tracks and B-sides, have been newly remastered from the original analog master stereo tapes by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Services—who assisted Albini as the only other engineer at the original sessions. The physical Super Deluxe Edition box sets also boast a removable front-cover acrylic panel with the album’s iconic Angel; a 48-page hardcover book with unreleased photos; a 20-page newly designed fanzine; a Los Angeles tour poster lithograph by hot rod artist Coop; replicas of the 1993 record store promo Angel mobile, three gig fliers, two ticket stubs for Los Angeles and Seattle, an All-Access tour laminate, and four cloth sticky tour backstage passes: Press, Photo, After Show, and Local Crew. Available exclusively at online stores at uDiscovermusic.com and SoundofVinyl.com and limited to 3000 units worldwide, fans who buy either Super Deluxe Edition will receive a Nirvana acrylic stand to display their angel-on-acrylic panel included in both boxset configurations. Nirvana recorded In Utero over the course of six days in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN with Albini. Retrospectively, Pitchfork rated it a rare perfect score of “10.0” and wrote, “In Utero is the sort of painful shock that, paradoxically, reinstills the empowering sensation of feeling alive.” Upon its arrival back in 1993, David Fricke wrote in Rolling Stone, “In Utero is a lot of things—brilliant, corrosive, enraged and thoughtful, most of them all at once. But more than anything, it’s a triumph of the will.” --- Please consider becoming a member so we can keep bringing you stories like this one. ◎ https://chorus.fm/news/nirvana-celebrate-in-utero-30th-anniversary/

Okie so one of my current interests is a game called five nights at Freddy’s(fnaf)!! I’ve liked this game series for a long time, it’s honestly one of the longest fandoms that I’ve been in!! Plus fnaf has also been a thing that I’ve liked for so long, I honestly don’t think that I’ll ever stop loving it cause it’s basically apart of my childhood and it’s still something that I love. But anyways, recently a teaser trailer for the movie came out and oh my godddd!!! It looks so good, I’m so bloody excited for the movie!! It’s been in the works for so long and now that we got a teaser trailer AND it’s coming out this year?! AAAHHHHHHH I’m kicking and screaming!!! And and, today a gameplay trailer was released for the new fnaf security breach dlc called ruin and ohhhhhhhh it looks so good as well!!! The design and atmosphere of the game is great, I can’t wait when it comes out so that I can watch gameplay of it!!! And and, I might be able to play it too since my older brother is gonna buy it when it comes out so yayyyyy!!
Okie okie, so my next interest is another video which is Resident Evil 4 remake(re4 remake) and ohhhhhhhh it’s such a bloody pretty game!! The graphics and gameplay is amazingggg!! And and the characters are so pretty too!! My favorite characters from the game are Leon, Ashely, and Luis- and you can call me a simp but I would gladly marry those three because god damn do they look so so pretty and beautiful!! I’m not too far into the game since I’m only watching two friends stream and play it but I’m currently rewatching their stream vods to refresh my memory. But ahhhhhhh the game is so gorgeous and everything about it is so great!! Asmskachkasjkwchajl and and the merchant in re4 remake, aaahhhhhhhh- I like wanna be his friend so bad!! I wanna give him a big ol’ hug each time I see him!! Currently I can’t play it since it’s on the newer gen consoles but whenever I can I’ll definitely 100% play it!!
Finally, my last current interest is an anime called Trigun!! I only recently got into it but ohhhh myyyy godddd does that anime have a grip on me!! The only reason I got into it was because I kept seeing a bunch of TikTok edits of the reboot version of the show which is called Trigun Stampede(I’ll refer to it as TriStamp) so I caved in and I started to watch it and I don’t regret my decision. I was not disappointed!! I loved the characters, the animation, the story- I just loved everything about it!! Then after I finished watching TriStamp a few weeks later I decided why not and I watched the og Trigun. And ohhhhhh myyyyy goddddd, my love for the show grew ten times more!! It was the same show and the same characters but just something about it was so different!!! I just loved it so much!! And and I also watch the movie as well(called Trigun: Badlands Rumble) because I just needed more content!! I’m genuinely so hooked with this anime, the brain rot I have of it is unreal. I recently got two funko pops of my two favorite characters from the anime and I plan to get the rest of the characters but I like wanna get more merch lol xddd Last weekend I saw two figures of two characters from Trigun, I didn’t get them and I regret not buying them but hopefully this weekend me and my brothers will go to the same mall and hopefully, hopefully they’ll still be there that way I can buy them!! There’s also gonna be a TriStamp figure and I want it so baddddd, and and there’s a Trigun and Trigun Maximum deluxe edition manga!! Shubsjjcknskhwkmkfnrk I wanna buy that tooooo!! I’m hoping I’ll be able to get both of these things sometime in the future(maybe even for Christmas but I doubt it.) but ahhhhhh just- the brain rot I have is unbelievable and this show just lives rent free in my mind rn
i've heard about the fnaf movie!! one of my irls loves fnaf and was telling me all about how excited they were for the movie. I dont remember him mentioning anything about the new game being released, but he was super excited about the movie.
ive seen so much abt resident evil (specifically about that one guy named leon) . it actually looks really interesting tbh
IVE SEEN REALLY COOL ART FOR TRIGUN ON TWITTER!!! the one guy with the yellow glasses has such cool character design and its so cool to see how different artists put their own spin on it

Christmas Special
Person A wrapping the lights around Person B instead of the tree while they giggle and kiss.
Okay, so I’ve never written anything on tumblr before, but thought I’d try it out, just posted my first fic on A03 last week too. I wrote this in May for some reason. But I just found this again.
please do not repost on any other site.
likes and reblogs appreciated
“I can’t reach…it....ah ha! Got it” Y/N stepped down from the ladder she was on.
“Darling, why didn't you wait for me? I would’ve done it.” Tom, her boyfriend of three years, said as he walked around the corner carrying two mugs of steaming tea. He set them carefully down on the family room table, which was covered in Christmas ornaments and lights softly glowing. Red and green boxes strewn across the floor and a Christmas tree leaning against the wall. Josh Groban christmas album Noël (Deluxe Edition) playing in the background softly, ‘A classic,’ Y/N had said, her family would listen to it every year the day after Thanksgiving while they put their tree up in their living room.
Y/N turned around, hair in a braid that was falling out in places and some pine tree needles stuck to her Christmas themed sweater. “Yeah, except I didn't want your arms getting scratched up from the pine needles before your filming in a couple weeks.”
Tom laughed softly and kissed the side of Y/N’s forehead. “Have I told you recently how much I love you?”
She looked up and gazed into his eyes. “ No actually, you've been slacking sir, tis been a whole two hours since I’ve been told” she said smiling.
Tom threw his head back and laughed. “ Well I apologize for the long delay, but I” he leaned down and kissed her on the lips. “Love” another kiss “you” kiss “so” kiss “damn much”.
She smiled. “ I love you so much too, but there will never be enough kisses to make me forget that we have a tree to put up tonight, nice try on the distraction. Almost worked.” She winked as she pulled away from his arms.
Tom pouted before walking after her as she moved behind the tree and grabbed the fishing string she had put on the tree. “Okay, you got me, but you just look so good in that Christmas themed sweater.”
Her head popped around from behind the tree, pine needles sticking out from her braid. “Thank you, but let's just get the lights on at least and then we can just slowly work on the tree during the week when we have time. It is only December 1st, so we don't have to super rush.” she moved back behind the tree, her voice slightly muffled when she spoke again. “Okay, is the tree straight?”
Tom stepped back and looked. “Not yet, move it a little to right...a little more…right there perfect. Okay tie the line to the banister and we should be good, you might have to crawl under the tree to get out though.”
She tied it tight to the banister, and slid down into an army crawl and crawled her way out from under the tree, her sweater gathering all the little pine needles that had fallen when she and Tom had put it up. Tom gave her his hand and helped her up. She shook her sweater out and did a little shimmy to make sure it all got off. “I’m going to have some appear in January randomly. I swear, they will never disappear.”
They grabbed the christmas lights from a green box marked “Ribbons, all christmas colors” and grabbed three boxes full of previously used christmas lights. “Okay, lets plugs these in and see which ones work and if we need to take a trip to the store tomorrow”
Y/N ran to the kitchen with the lights and plugged the first one in. “Ah ha! This one looks good, maybe one out?” Tom gathered the batch and untangled them while she continued checking the batches of lights.
She was so focused on her task, that she didn't realise that Tom had grabbed to of the lights and snuck up behind her. “And this one looks like this only has a handful of….” she looked behind her and saw Tom smiling as he started to wrapped the lights around her.
She started laughing. “Tom, do I look like a pine tree?” He continued wrapping her up in the lights as she started giggling again. “Tom, what are you doing.”
He leaned in and kissed her on the lips, one his favorite parts of her body. “Because you looked absolutely ravishing right there standing in the glow of the lights that I had to wrap you up like a present.”
She threw her head back and laughed as he kissed her again on the neck and carried on with wrapping her in the lights, moving her arms to be above the lights. They both were in fits of giggles now, Y/N squatted down and picked up two of her lights she hadn’t checked yet and plugged them in, checking before motioning with her finger to Tom to come closer and she started slowly spinning him in lights as Tom started laughing more, kissing her everytime he faced her.
It’s crazy how some people meet as strangers and then in a blink of an eye, three years later they’re wrapping each other in soft glowing Christmas lights and giggling like little school children with a silly secret. It’s crazy how the world is unaware of Tom Holland’s girlfriend and how they’ve been dating each other for three years. It’s crazy how Tom, of all the jokes, memes, and tumblr posts about how Tom can’t keep a secret, is keeping the hardest secret he can hide from the world, one that he wants to shout from the highest mountain tops to the whole world. It’s crazy how after three years of love and anger, sadness and happiness, ups and downs, hard times and good, a little black box, stuffed in his flannel pocket, just begging to be taken out. A question to be asked, the ring simple and beautiful, like her, just begging to be taken out of the box and put onto the finger of the person Tom loves the most.
The world is unknowing of two people slow dancing in their family room, wrapped in christmas lights, with soft christmas music playing in the background, unknowing of the soft kisses, soft “I love you’s” and especially unknowing of a quiet “will you marry me?” and a tear coming from Y/N’s eyes as she nods against his chest. A soft “yes” and more whispered “I love you’s” as the world continued on without knowing that two once strangers lives will be threaded together forever.

Game Giveaway, COVID-19 Edition
Hey, everyone! If you’re stuck at home with nothing to do, I’m here to help! The usual rules apply: first come, first served, be nice to each other, don’t be greedy. You'll need to do your own research on the games to make sure your computer is capable of running them. I'm not giving any recommendations because I don't know anything about the vast majority of them, and I don't want to point out the "good ones" so they get snatched up quickly. I will update the list as games are claimed, so every title on the list should still be available, but I'm only human, so I apologize in advance if you request something that's already been taken. Multiple titles on the list mean I have multiple keys for that game. Send me a message with the title you’d like and I’ll send you the key!

"I'm following Kojima's lead and decorating my office with my own quotes."
Today's the day, it's finally here... the latest & greatest from Biggu Bosu's big poppa... his first game as a free man, free from the shackles of Konami... am talking about Death Stranding, a Hideo Kojima game, of course.
To celebrate the launch, Kojima Productions teamed up with... somebody... to bring a Death Stranding pop-up gallery to NYC. And I was there, on opening day.
So the very first thing you see when passing the large Ludens, seen above, is a display of all of Kojima's badges from various gaming conferences, which gave me a hearty laugh for whatever reason...
My wife: “Honey, do you want to take a picture of a bottle of Dom Pérignon that’s signed by the cast?”
Me: “Yes.”
The gallery had various reproductions of production art all blown up, which was neat all & all, but what actually got me excited was the original Yoji Shinkawa illustrations...
Throughout the gallery were quotes from Kojima, which gave both my wife and @AmphibiouEsq ideas...
I’m very glad the curator decided to include this photograph of the Kojima Productions Christmas tree...
I was also very appreciative of this huge ass photo of brownies...
A portion of the gallery space had TVs showing the games making of; each had a toy or model, to help recreate someone's workstation at Kojima Productions...
One of my favorite parts of the space was the motion capture area, in particular, the various behind the scenes photographs...
My wife and I need a high res version of this photo for our apartment...
Actually, the part I dug the most was the only & only section that didn't allow for picture taking, which was Kojima's personal collection (I'm assuming) of photos. Thankfully Ashley found the one that I legit stared at for 10 minutes, to memorize EVERY detail...
Nothing speaks more of Kojima’s love for movies than this very Breakfast Club-esque take on the cast of Death Stranding…
Nice to see wax Norman Reedus in NYC once again; first saw him at New York Comic Con a few weeks back...
A look at the game’s collector’s edition; thankfully the only thing of interest to me, that being the pocket sized Ludens, was available at the pop-up’s gift show (and for just $15!)...
The last stop was the gift shop, which all the Kojima Production goods that one might expect, including Ludens in a variety of sizes...
I totally would have gotten the super deluxe statue if I didn’t already have the waifu version on pre-order (plus it’s like a thousand dollars)...
Additional notes:
Overall, I really dug the idea of a dedicated gallery exhibition centered on one specific game… primarily from a noted game maker who is essentially a legend, one that’s starting over. It felt like the final paragraph of the first chapter in the second volume of one’s life, if that makes any sense.
That being said, the execution was a bit rough around the edges. And given my experience running game-focused exhibitions, not just ones associated with game-centric events (like Penny Arcade Expo & New York Comic Con) but simply in NYC in general, along with the logistics involved in collaborating with a Japanese partner (which I’m well aware of, via secondhand knowledge from trusted colleagues & firsthand observations), I’m fairly confident in pointing the finger at the venue.
Pop-ups are all the rage in NYC, and venues want in on the easy money, yet also want to put in the minimal amount of effort. The staff… to be clear, not the event group that organized the exhibition, but the folks who are part of the building… were idiots. Time for examples, two to be precise:
First, remember that part of the gallery in which photography was strictly forbidden? Well, there was this one girl who was openly taking pics. I was confused as to why the guy whose job it was to keep an eye on that shit wasn’t paying attention, so in the end, I had to say something. And for those calling me a snitch, remember, I used to run these type of things, so time for a question: if you ran a small business, and was at someone’s store, and then witnessed shoplifting... you’d probably tell the owner, especially if it was someone you respected & admired, no?
Anyhow, it took way too much effort to get the guard’s attention (I tried my best to avoid a scene), but eventually he went into action. And the girl’s attempt to get out of trouble by being flirtatious totally worked, lol.
Time for example number two: so I asked another employee where the bathroom was, for both myself and my wife. This one guy pointed us towards a random stairwell, which seemingly led towards the basement and not the bathroom. BTW, there was no signage to indicate that a bathroom down there (for visitors). When I expressed confusion, his attitude screamed “just go downstairs, dumbass”, albeit without uttering those exact words. And when I hesitated… since people on the way up and the stairwell was cramped… he became even more annoyed.
Oh, so here’s a pretty important detail: my wife has mobility issues, something that’s impossible to miss, since she uses a cane. So it sucked that she had to walk down several flights down to access the bathroom, but way worse is how there was actually an elevator basically right next door, which the guard failed to acknowledge, even though my wife... with her cane... was standing right in front of him. Oh, and the reason why we didn’t notice the elevator door at the top floor ourselves is cuz all these pop-ups have super poor visibility. Ya know, “mood lighting”.
One last thing: as noted, the final part of the gallery was the gift shop, and it was legit awesome being able to get Kojima Production apparel without any import or shipping fees. Though I can’t help but notice how stressed everyone on that end was, and this was the end of day one, in which the crowd was rather light; when it comes to these kinds of events, in which there’s trouble behind the scenes, it’s often those working on the retail end who have the face the brunt of it.
So that’s my report, sorry for the rant at the end, but hey… if you’ve run similar events in the past, and are proud of the level of polish across the board, as well as married to a person who is handicapped, in a city in which everyone is actively hostile towards said loved one, you’d probably have opinions as well!

August 3rd-August 9th, 2019 Creator Babble Archive
The archive for the Creator Babble chat that occurred from August 3rd, 2019 to August 9th, 2019. The chat focused on the following question:
Describe your comic’s setting. What made you choose this setting?
Steph (@grandpaseawitch)
For https://oldmanandtheseawitch.tumblr.com/, I chose a very nebulous interbellum period because I felt like that sort of gave me the best of all worlds. At heart, I just love me some vintage settings, especially the early 20th century. I knew I wanted a setting without modern conveniences, not only because it helps the comic stand up to aging and reduces the risk of falling out of date, but presents its own challenges and advantages. But while I wanted a vintage setting, I also wanted one that I felt like hadn't been done before in regards to mermaid stories, which are almost always set either in modern days or in the rough time period of the Little Mermaid--1700s to early 1800s. Interbellum Scotland felt like a unique setting that was, at once, hearkening to classical mermaid settings with sailboats and old-timey fisherman, tiny fishing towns, but with some trapping familiar to modern readers even they have vintage twists, like telephones but with switchboards, cars but they're old model Ts, things like that. I also felt like this period brought some neat ideas. I've never seen mermaids dealing with old radios or model Ts or a setting that had just recovered from a brutal world war with trenches and ocean mines and diesel and radar. Transitioning from pastoral to industrialized. Where does this element of fantasy, the mermaid story, come into play and interact with this? And you'll see that, even between Witchy and Ainsley, things revolving around mermaids are more fantasy-based with monsters and magic, while things revolving around humans are more realistic and down to earth, wondering about income and walking to work and selling your goods and what's going on south in england. And over time, things start to overlap and entwine as their relationship progresses, magic seeping into the human world and the mundane seeping into the mermaid world.
But overall I just love drawing and researching vintage things. ;3 And Scotland's just pretty as heck.
Respheal
Galebound http://www.galebound.com/ takes place on a tidally-locked planet shortly before their equivalent to earth's industrial revolution. Steam engines are getting more popular, mostly used by merchants where the fixed wind and currents aren't helpful, and they're on the cusp of science and medical advancements that will make their planetary and magical system very problematic. The tidally-locked world came first, just 'cuz they're neat! Planets like that have one side constantly facing their sun so you get that whole fire-ice world with a narrow band of eternal twilight and safety in between. These type of planets, if they have a good atmosphere, also usually have a giant storm at the subsolar point. So I made that storm the carrier of their magic system, the Gale, because why not. This sorta setup causes some interesting narrative features, like the complete lack of night and seasons and huge swaths of the planet that are completely uninhabitable. The time period sort of just happened, but it worked out. I wanted it to take place later than sword-and-sorcery times, but it couldn't be too modern, so the early 19th century was about right. Also it sort of sets a time limit on fixing certain things, because certain scientific advances would make the magic system so ridiculously broken I don't think it could be salvaged ahahaha :'D(edited)
spacerocketbunny
http://www.ghostjunksickness.com/ the setting in GJS is in a universe that has a variety of different time period aesthetics in one. It takes on a retro futurism where there's outdated tech from the 80's and 90's but there's also spaceships and technological advancements to make travelling from one planet to the next into a day trip. There's aliens and a variety of different people that make humans a minority in the population in a very mixed and blended cultural mosaic. The main setting of the story, which is a planet called June7 is also a place recovering from a inexplicable catastrophe which destroyed a majority of the planet's surface. It's unstable and crumbling structures make it difficult for the residents to thrive and something like transient bounty hunters have pretty much taken over the main livelihood of the planet.
We wanted to make a really well lived in setting, so we took inspiration from a variety of different cultures and stories that the science-fiction genre hadn't quite delved into.
LadyLazuli
For Phantomarine, http://www.phantomarine.com/, the basic concept was simple - I like the ocean, and I like ghosts, so I mashed them together into a haunted ocean But I also love worlds where beauty and danger are close neighbors - in this case, a network of sacred lighthouses keeps swarms of hungry ghosts away from the living population of the sea. I love stories where civilian life is pretty uncomplicated and chill - I've got a nice tropical fantasy vibe going on in these last couple chapters - but there's always a massive danger element looming over everyone's head. What if those lighthouses fail? What if you fall overboard outside the barrier? All that relaxing energy can change to morbid tragedy in a flash...(edited)
LadyLazuli
In terms of rough time period, I've kept it incredibly vague, mostly for my own enjoyment I have sailboats and motorboats existing side by side, color cameras, radios, electricity... certainly not technologically advanced, but it's got some 19th-20th century bits-n-bobs here and there. It's a fantasy world, but more supernatural than magical - gods, ghosts, some humans with strange gifts, but more often than not, a very strong boundary between ordinary and extraordinary. It's a story where a few normal people get swept up into all sorts of divine shenanigans, and have to find their way through.
Steph (@grandpaseawitch)
Finally getting a chance to read through phantomarine and I thought that blanket was familiar! Absolutely love the PNW-inspired outfit, @LadyLazuli !
LadyLazuli
AAH! Yes yes! I've spent far too much time at the Museum of Anthropology here in Vancouver to NOT be inspired by it. My world is truly a mishmash of cultures
Steph (@grandpaseawitch)
OHHH I WANNA VISIT SO BAADD. I need to get my washington license upgraded so I can take a trip up there to the museum!(edited)
But your whole comic is a delight. <3 I'll be retweetin' it in a bit when I finish reading.
AntiBunny
AntiBunny http://antibunny.net/ is pretty straight forward. The city is inspired by film noir, hardboiled comics, and detective novels. It's an old city, so everything should look weathered, especially the old town district where most of the stories take place, so it's all brick work, broken plaster, cracked window panes and such. To some degree I also take visual inspiration from the historic district in my home town, and surrounding areas.
MJ Massey
Black Ball http://welcometoblackball.com/ is set in an alternate 1920s in the New York area. Because of course you set a 1920s comic in New York! But also, I used to live in the metro area and loved it, so to me it was natural to have the setting there. There's a lot of good reference, and lots of sneaky places one can hide a speakeasy. There are a whole bunch of good historical references as well, which makes it easier.
snuffysam
Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R http://sgkdr.thecomicseries.com/ is set in a deliberately anachronistic fantasy world. There are biplanes and 20's cars, but there's also online message boards and cell phones. Fashion makes no sense, climate makes no sense, etc. The reason I built the world like this is because I wanted to mix up my background designs (and crowd designs) between scenes, and making a world that has no real consistency was the best way to get away with this in my mind. One town has modern art and roller skates, another has tents and open-air shops, there's a city on a hexagonal grid with triangular skyscrapers, this city: http://sgkdr.thecomicseries.com/comics/524/ uses a fractal pattern for its layout, etc.
Desnik
http://ask-a-warlock.tumblr.com/ is based on the idea that a medieval fantasy can be MORE than a DnD piggyback ride. And like, the medieval time period was a couple thousand years, yo, there's differentiation between different time periods. I used it as an opportunity to revamp my worldbuilding techniques and I've learned a lot about frontier-style governments and societies that function without a central authority. Also marginalia are the best comics and no one can tell me otherwise.
Attila Polyák
The setting of Tales of Midgard https://talesofmidgard.com/ is at a glance pretty much what you’d expect a generic fantasy world to be. Aaaand in a way that is right. The setting is a world that used to be kinda medieval-Europe like a long time ago, magic became commonplace, and the world reacted. Instead of developing technology, like in the real world, magic became technology and ultimately it became so common that it satisfied the needs of everyone in every niche possible. And then modernization happened, because why wouldn't it? What we in real life call science and technology slowly got discovered and integrated with a magic-based economy. The end result is a world that looks a bit anachronistic but if you look at it more closely you’ll notice that most things either don’t have a real-life counterpart or if they do they actually mean very different things. This is the point where my main story takes place and the world we see in my comic.
Funari (Raison d'Etre)
Well for Raison d'Etre ( http://raisondetrecomic.com/ ) I was always inspired by anime and general Japanese culture/pop culture growing up, so I had a handle of 90s/00s Japan pretty well that I wanted to use it! I also grew up during the 00s as a teen so the fashions and stuff have stuck. Kinda giving off a sense of nostalgia with the memories that way. And the "Present Day"'s trends are just based off what I grew up with and what a future would look like if we re-cycled back to millennium pop culture, including the love for 60s/70s-inspired stuff, so it's a "neat mess" of that stuff
We haven't shown much of the other planes of existence yet, but we plan to soon. But the idea with those is alternate/fantastical takes on plain ol' Earth (the Middle Plane). Mildly so, though, as even Umbria and Celeste have evolved over time like Earth's denizens have. Little bits of modernization, and assimilation with Earth trends due to the eventual discovery of these planes by Earth's NKP folks.
KAME (commissions open!)
Describe your comic’s setting. What made you choose this setting? For http://tapas.io/series/dragonclawcomic I chose fantasy because I’ve always loved stories about epic adventures, and magical creatures, and I also love the elements from mythology that are often integrated into fantasy stories (gods and demons, heroes and villains, etc.). There’re so many wonderful worlds and characters and creatures that exist within a fantasy setting, and so many more you can create on your own, it’s overwhelming (I mean, Dragons, man, they’re awesome!). Probably one of the first things that got me into fantasy was the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon show, but recently and more importantly, the thing that inspired me to write my own story was the The Legend of Drizzt novels, which I absolutely love (and I’m thankful to my brother who sent me the first like 9 novels for me to read, when I didn’t know a thing about them, and now there are over 20?, I lost count, but I always look forward to the next book) and needless to say have and keep inspiring me a lot

Madonna - Madame X
It doesn’t really feel like 4 years since Madonna’s Rebel Heart came out, but that might just be because I still listen to it a good amount. At least once a month I go through a Madonna kick and end up listening to a bunch of her discography again. Rebel Heart wasn’t a shining star among her discography, but there was something about it that kept bringing me back. My favorite Madonna record remained Confessions on a Dancefloor, but I’m always open for her to top an album that would make my top ten of all time. When Madame X was first announced and “Medellín” was released, I was honestly a little skeptical at the direction she was headed. Even after hearing the album I still think it was a questionable choice for her to release her Maluma collab as the first single. With latin songs flooding the airways these last few years it still didn’t feel like this could possibly be a huge hit for Madonna. What eventually became clear was that this album wasn’t meant for singles, it was meant to digested as a one full piece. More on that later.
youtube
Madonna is the real chameleon queen of pop so it’s not exactly shocking that this new album is way left field from her previous two. After hearing it the first time through, it struck me how powerful she meant this album to be. Songs like “God Control” and “Dark Ballet” delve deeper into social issues and look to shed some light for those listening. One line that I feel will get looked over is “I think I understand why people get a gun,” which challenged listeners to understand the dangers of the world we live in. I’ve seen a lot of people refer to this album as a hybrid Madonna record; it’s tonality is very American Life while the music can take you back to COAD, with just a hint of Music in some vocal effects. While it’s not unlike Madonna to reference herself, Madame X is playing an entirely different game. With Madame X she looked outside of herself and tried to change the world.
This era just feels like Madonna put her super hero mask on and set out to fight crime one disco song at a time. Madame X isn’t just a student, or a teacher, or a nun…she’s whatever she needs to be to save those in need. “Killers who are Partying” is a glaring example of this, starting off the song with “I will be gay, if the gay are burned,” followed by her commitment to be whatever minority group is in need of help. This subject (and specifically that line from “Killers”) is something Madonna references in her music video for “Dark Ballet” which features LGBTQ activist, Mykki Blanco. She just keeps the narrative going outside of the songs, whether it’s through music videos, her Instagram posts, or her interviews where she dons her signature red “X” eyepatch.
Back-peddling to it, this is why the album feels like it should be taken in as one big work of art. She’s not just trying to give you the music, she’s trying to give you something THROUGH the music. More on the surface, she’s trying to open our eyes to issues like gun control, racism, and poverty. Something in me wants to say that the most politically charged part of the album falls between “Dark Ballet” and “Killers who are Partying,” but when I look to the left and see the track-list I can’t help but feel like she really had something to say with each and every track. There are a few songs that feel a bit “lighter” and there are a few songs that have “lighter” moments, but as a whole there’s a clear, peaceful message that Madonna wants to get through. “Come Alive” is a beacon of hope placed right in the god damn center of this record. Coming in at number 9, it’s not exactly the first upbeat song we see on Madame X, theres just some fun tone about the song that sets it above others. It’s lively backing music contributes to that, and I can’t be the only one who thinks you can hear her smiling as she sings throughout the chorus, which is a nice touch. This song in particular is all about seeing the good come out of the world and it ended up being one of my favorites on here. Actually, “Come Alive” ends my favorite string of songs on Madame X. Madonna HAD to have known what she was doing putting “Crave,” “Crazy,” and “Come Alive” next to each other because it’s easily the best part of the album.
One thing I have to note about this record is how organic is feels. Madonna has been living in Portugal and while she’s talked about it’s inspirations on the record, it’s something you could have inferred just from listening to it. “Faz Gostoso” is actually a cover of a fairly popular Portuguese song by Blaya and “Bitch I’m Loca” (the second track to feature Maluma) is almost entirely in Spanish. It goes beyond the lyrics, Madonna seems to have brought an entire band back to help her out in the studio. While Portugal clearly dug out a permanent spot on this record, it’s obvious that Madonna wanted this record to be “for the world,” incorporating numerous cultures from all over. What’s astonishing is how well she pulled all these ideas, concepts, and cultures together into one cohesive album. If you told me some artist released a disco/Spanish/political album, I would have never given it a second thought and declined the listen. I guess if anyone could pull it off it would be Madonna, the queen of pop.
Before I wrap this article up, I would beat myself up if I didn’t take the time to talk about the (sort of) closer to this record. Since there’s 3 different version of the record, “I Rise” closes out the deluxe edition and delivers an inspiring message about rising “up above it all.” It starts off with an excerpt from Emma Gonzalez as she demands stricter gun control. What the song turns into is Madonna urging everyone to learn from the tragedies and to build off of them. It’s immaculately produced and feels like it’s gaining power more and more as the track goes on. Madonna did not disappoint with this record and it’s one that I think everyone should hear. Even if you’re not a fan of Madonna, I urge you to sit with a pair of headphones, a glass of wine, and just take it all in.

SHOW US YOUR JUNK! EP. 18 - LEE RALDO (SONIC YOUTH) | EARTHQUAKER DEVICES
We’ve had a running bet around the office about who might be the first artist to drop trou in an episode of Show Us Your Junk! Today’s your lucky day, Sonic Youth fans, because Lee Ranaldo is not that artist. But he came close. And he did expose us to a custom sixteen-string guitar built by Steve Albini with only high E strings and a penis inlay. It says, “Sonic Sixteen.” “That’s one of the bossest headstocks you’ll ever see in your life,” says Ranaldo. “So that’s that.” In thirty short years, Sonic Youth produced one of the largest and most stimulating bodies of work of any American rock band. Their catalog spans 16 studio albums, 4 “best-of” compilations, 6 feature-length videos, 46 music videos, 8 Eps, 21 singles, 8 improvised SYR recordings, 8 authorized bootlegs, 16 soundtrack and compilation appearances; and hundreds – actual hundreds – of guitars. They married hardcore punk with fine art, free-improvisation, beatnik poetry, musiqué concrete, contemporary classical composition, pop-rock, and selfless democratic collaboration to produce a polyamorous cacophony of tension and release that’s often imitated, but never replicated. During the latter third of their career, Sonic Youth set up camp in their Echo Canyon East recording studio on Manhattan’s Murray St. where they recorded their 2002 album with the same name. In 2006, they decamped to the opposite shore of the Hudson River to Hoboken, NJ to set up shop at Echo Canyon West, where their junk currently resides. The control room in Echo Canyon West is built around a 2” 16-track Studer A800 tape machine and a modified Neve 5106 mixing console. Since the 5106 was built for broadcast applications, it has no mic preamps. Audio signals are routed to preamps, outboard gear, and tape – bypassing the console entirely. Likewise, they shun plugins and prefer to commit sounds to tape as early as possible. Edits are performed manually using a grease pencil and razorblade to slice and dice entire takes captured on tape. The studio’s live room is lined with amplifiers – combos mostly – including an early ‘60s Fender Super Reverb (Lee’s amp of choice), a brownface Princeton modded by NYC amp tech Harry Kolbe, and the exact ‘50s Tweed Deluxe model like those used onstage by Neil Young during the Goo tour back in 1991. “It’s not really roadworthy,” says Ranaldo, “but it’s got that classic old Fender sound.” Guitar-wise, Lee mainly plays his signature Jazzmaster modified with Fender Wide Range humbuckers like those in his early ‘70s Telecaster Deluxe ¬– his first “serious” guitar. When Sonic Youth’s gear was stolen in 1999, Lee’s first Telecaster was among the guitars taken and was one of the few pieces recovered, albeit with a new powder blue finish courtesy of the thieves. Perhaps the most interesting lost-and-found item is Lee’s Travis Bean Artist (no. 375) played on the song “Kool Thing” (Goo, 1991) which “looked like someone had stuck it in a campfire for an hour or two” and “looked kind of cool,” but has been restored to its original condition at the request of Sonic Youth’s crew who “couldn’t stand the way it looked,” says Lee. Upstairs is the master tape archive where the entirety of Sonic Youth’s recorded output is painstakingly cataloged. If you’ve made it this far, then we probably don’t need to say too much about the mixdown reels for Evol, Daydream Nation, Sister, and so on. But we’ll keep a lookout for the possibility of an SYR record with Nels Cline. Video: Vice Cooler Music: Lee Ranaldo

Album Review: The Beatles “Revolver” Special Super Deluxe Edition
We might not be living in The Beatles era, which was officially 1960-1970, but we are so lucky to be living in the Beatles Nostalgia era. As a lifelong Beatle fanatic who was born after their break up, I’ve been lucky enough to study and dissect all of their albums, books, documentaries, films and more. The band’s 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was my #1 Reissue of 2017, and I was lucky enough to review the anniversary editions of The White Album in 2018, Abbey Road in 2019, and last year’s Let It Be reissue. After last year’s phenomenal 3-part documentary The Beatles: Get Back from Peter Jackson, one of the cool things his production company did was develop the de-mixing technology for the music in that doc. With that technology, producer Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) has gone back to remaster The Beatles’ 1966 classic Revolver. After they remastered all the big releases from 1967 to 1970, they realized they needed to go back and catch up on Revolver. This week sees the release of Revolver, celebrating the, um, well the 56th anniversary of the album. The edition I got to review is the 5-CD Super Deluxe version.
the 5-CD Super Deluxe Edition
For context, in December 1965, The Beatles dropped Rubber Soul, which was a very transitional record between their early pop sound they began with and their rock, folk and psychedelic sound they moved into. Expanding upon that album, the Fab 4 went back into the studio with producer George Martin from April to June 1966. Revolver was released on August 5, 1966. Music geeks tend to argue about the greatest albums of all time, but Revolver usually shows up in the Top 5 of most lists. Sgt. Pepper might be the obvious answer everyone says, but Revolver is just pure musicianship and pure music production. The recording techniques were groundbreaking. It’s also notable for being an album that features three George Harrison compositions beyond the standard John Lennon / Paul McCartney songs. The album has stood the test of time. Earlier this year I attended concerts of both Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney and both performed songs from Revolver in their sets. For me, this is a very special album because my wife and I visited Liverpool on our UK honeymoon in 2009 and we purchased a rare signed album cover illustration from artist and Beatle pal Klaus Voorman that we have framed on our wall to remember our honeymoon.
framed Revolver print on my wall
Disc 1 is the new 2022 Stereo Mix. Giles Martin sourced the original 4-track master tapes and used the de-mixing technology. I was a big fan of the 2009 Stereo Mix of Revolver when they reissued all of The Beatles albums. This new mix was not bad by any means, but I think it is going to take a few more listens to see how this one compares. Fact is it’s an amazing album, so even if I was listening to my next door neighbor playing it on cassette tape it would still sound great. But this one is solid. Disc 2 is the Original Mono Mix. Audio purists will probably go nuts over this one for sure! Disc 3 is the Revolver EP, which consists of both stereo and mono mixes of non-album singles “Paperback Writer” and “Rain”. Disc 4 is Sessions One and Disc 5 is Sessions Two, both CDs are alternate takes and mixes from the recording sessions. Some serious revelations here include “Yellow Submarine” with John singing, “And Your Bird Can Sing” with the band giggling and unable to keep it together (these lads had a lot of fun when they got in a room that’s for sure), and George Martin talking shop with Paul before “Eleanor Rigby”. Some fans aren’t going to care about an alternate take of a famous song, but I think it’s kind of cool to hear what something eventually became. As if all of these treats weren’t enough, the packaging of this box set is off the charts. There is an 82-page coffee table book with incredible photos from that era, a forward from Sir Paul, an appreciation from Questlove (Revolver has long been admired by the hip hop community because of the multitracking), articles about the album, and a deep dive into each song, as well as the album cover.
John, Ringo, George and Paul recording Revolver
Bottom line: anyone who knows me or reads this blog knows I am a Beatle fanatic and since I loved the original album, it’s no surprise I loved this box set. But they didn’t phone it in with this box set, they gave some special treats to the fans. This might be among my favorite box sets they have released!

Going to make this one a taaaad bit shorter than last week’s. While I’d like to say it is in the interest of giving you loyal readers a break, in fact it’s because I really didn’t sleep well last night and my brain is mush.
For example, without my going back and really concentrating, most of the writing I’m doing right now looks like this:
Mopst oif tHr wrttiomg I”n dopIngh lokks L1je tyhjiis.
As you might imagine, it’s put quite the damper on my writing this blog.
No worries, though, the reason for the crappy sleep isn’t something important, or connected to Onyx Path, or anything like that. As near as I can figure, I was having anxiety dreams because my kids are all going back to their various schools starting yesterday and finishing next weekend.
They were expressing their concerns and had last minute this and thats, and all of that seeped into my head and I dreamed what I thought were three hour epic searches for classrooms only to wake up and note that 15 minutes had passed. Over and over again. I never even knew that my high school was built by the same architect who designed Hogwarts, but all those Mobius Strip escalators to the same floor, and doors that led to nowhere logical, were all there at dear old Central High.
Apparently.
Promethean: The Created Tormented art by Tilen Javornik
Although, the particular manifestation was pretty benign and keyed to my personal “can’t find the class and the bell is ringing” freak-out, what I went through is pretty common. We take in so much stuff from others and chew it up, internalize it, and some of us can let those anxieties escape via dreams, which is pretty cool, but other stuff stays in and does affect us.
Plus, if you are doing “creative work”, a large part of that process is to open yourself up and not just absorb input from outside yourself, but to grab that stuff and use it. To use it and create something with it. It’s what we do in a very basic sense. Some do it with creative processes that have discrete stages that build towards the end creative result, others have a more intuitive process that may not even seem like there’s a creative process so much as spontaneous creation. To an outside observer.
It so happens that our business, like so many, relies on constant communication; between our in-house folks, between all our freelance creative teams, between us and our Onyx Path community, and the gaming community as a whole. That’s a lot of input, and as with so much of social media, a lot of it is not helpful – whether by intent or accidentally. It is exhausting to weed out so much extra noise to get to the signal you need for your project.
Which is why I encourage, and sometimes order, our Onyx Path crew to take vacations. Gotta let the brain absorb different input. It’s tough, though, because we do have so many projects all going at different stages for different game lines, so there’s no “good” time for a vacation, usually. Nevertheless, it is so very necessary.
And it so happens that post-Gen Con is a great time to decompress and get revved up for pulling things together as we head towards the new year, so we’ve been blinking away one at a time and popping back so another one of our Onyx team can get away for a bit.
Monarchies of Mau art by Pat McEvoy
In fact, the time between Gen Con and Fall also sounded like a good time to reconfigure our Onyx Path website. After all, every site Impish Ian looked at said it was a five minute change. Liars! A big apology from us to everyone who couldn’t log in, or post, or get emails (that may have just been me) during the process of changing over, realizing it wasn’t working, and changing everything back. If we had known it wasn’t actually as easy as it said on the tin, we would have warned everybody.
Fortunately, Kickstarter is not connected directly to our website, so we were able to launch the Dystopia Rising: Evolution Kickstarter and fund within a day. Which is awesome because that means we can get to move quickly into creating some of the also awesome Stretch Goal projects.
We also have some equally awesome reward tiers that include getting your character into both the text and the visuals, yourself done up as one of the zombies in the art, and artifacts from the early days of the Dystopia Rising LARP. Like all of our KSs, we’ve tried to add fun and flavorful rewards that connect directly with both our new edition and the previous incarnations of the setting. Check out the link in our BLURBS! section below!
In this stretch leading up to the Labor Day Weekend, our sales partners at Indie Press Revolution are wrapping up the wildly successful 40% sale they’ve been running on our Deluxe W20 and M20 printer overrun books. If you’ve missed out on these beauties, this may be your best chance at getting them at these sorts of prices! Only until the end of the month: https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/
In their continuing efforts to open up more Community Content sites, White Wolf will be adding Exalted to their Storytellers’ Vault site on DTRPG.com. All three editions will be opened, but if you want to create something for any of the three, please carefully read the info provided on the site detailing what is and isn’t allowed.
It’s a great opportunity to create, publish, and get paid for your unofficial Exalted material, and as Matthew Dawkins likes to point out, the Community Content sites are also a super way to “audition” for writing for official projects with us at Onyx Path.
No guarantees, of course. And better I stress it now, yes, we still hold the license to create official Exalted material, and WW is the company that runs the site and determines what is allowable, not Onyx Path.
Cavaliers of Mars art by Nate Pride
In fact, since this is the last week of the month, two things happen here at Onyx Path. One, we put up the latest monthly installments of EX3‘s Hundred Devils Night Parade and Adversaries of the Righteous on Wednesday. We’re getting to the point where we’re looking to assemble at least the Hundred Devil monthly releases into a single book, although we actually still have a lot more to go.
Would you folks prefer us to get the current batch assembled into a book now, and then create a second book later, or hold off and create one big book? I’m probably going to ask the EX3 backers this in the monthly Backer Update too.
What’s a Backer Update, you say? Why that is an update for one of our Kickstarted projects that we send out every month to those who backed that KS. Since we have a lot of KS’d projects, James and I send out a lot of Backer Updates each month.
We send them monthly because after long experience we’ve decided that once a month is a good reliable pace to get the on-going status for the KS you backed, and if something happens that backers need to know about, like a PDF going out or a book shipping, we’ll send more updates.
Now, if you’ve backed a few of our KSs, that means you get a lot of very similar Backer Updates, particularly since we also include a notice about whatever our current Kickstarter is. We realize that hearing about a new KS while waiting for yours to progress, or getting a bunch of repeated notices, can get tedious, but please bear in mind that we also always used to get complaints that previous backers didn’t know about our current KS.
With the dearth of strong centralized communication in this business, we chose to notify our previous backers about the current KS rather than have folks miss out on it. YMMV of course, but those “Why didn’t I hear about this KS?” messages have dropped off dramatically and we sure hope those folks have had a chance to jump into the latest KS.
After all, our KSs run the same range of game worlds as our game lines: WoD, CofD, Exalted 3rd, our Storypath and 5e based settings and more – there are a lot of interests out there and we’re trying to keep the communication flowing about our:
Many Worlds, One Path!
BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER:
The Dystopia Rising: Evolution Kickstarter funded in less than a day, and has already passed one Stretch Goal!
The next Stretch Goal is where we start building the Threat Guide companion PDF which is a first-person guide with mechanics to the various threats facing survivors in the DR:E world, so we’re pretty excited to get started with that!
Dystopia Rising is a post-apocalyptic roleplaying game that quickly grew into a live-action sensation. Now, Onyx Path is pleased to update the live-action setting with Dystopia Rising: Evolution, a tabletop roleplaying game that presents a fresh and exciting take on the post-apocalypse genre.
Dystopia Rising: Evolution will be powered by Onyx Path’s Storypath system, and includes all the rules you need to play as a survivor in the post-apocalypse, including rules for creating characters for up to 24 different Strains, variations on humanity that survived the Fall. It also has details on the powers of faith and psionics, along with advice on running action-adventure stories, webs of personal intrigue, or procedural investigations. And, finally, dozens of antagonists, including a variety of zombies and raiders to use in your series.
Throughout this Kickstarter campaign, we will be posting complete previews of the Dystopia Rising: Evolution manuscript as backer-only updates.
ELECTRONIC GAMING:
As we find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is now live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is both rolling and rocking!

Tiny Cartridge's Holiday 2017 Gift Guide ⊟
We picked out gifts we’d give to people we love (like you)!
Gifts we’d give to Switch owners
Puyo Puyo Tetris - It’s a great Tetris game, a great Puyo Puyo trainer, and a weirdly enjoyable story.
Waterfield CitySlicker Case - An elegantly designed, perfectly protective case. It’s a top-shelf pouch with a top-shelf price, offering a cowhide leather flap and microsuede lining.
Palisade’s Waxed Canvas Carrying Case - Available in green and blue, this case isn’t quite as nice as the CitySlicker, but it’s a quarter of the price and will keep consoles warm during these winter months with its flannel interior.
Switch Arcade Cabinet - This DIY project turns Switches into a tiny arcade machine! And it can be extended with DIY joystick controls, or not.
Gifts we’d give to Nintendo 3DS and 2DS owners
SNES Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL - While it’s not a Super NES Classic Edition, it looks just as slick, and you can actually buy this one from a store. It also comes with a digital code for Super Mario Kart for the SNES.
Poke Ball Edition New Nintendo 2DS XL - It looks just like a Poke Ball, and the lid has a button you can press – two good excuses for why someone would want yet another 3DS/2DS system.
amCase Soft Sleeve 3DS XL Carrying Case - This low-key gray case is a great and cheap solution for adults wanting to carry this child-proof system around with them.
River City Rival Showdown - Two years in a row, we have a new Kunio game to recommend. Hell yeah. This River City Ransom remake even comes with a limited edition Kunio keychain.
Gifts we’d give to PS Vita owners
Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition - The deluxe edition of the one-man Metroidvania (includes the game, a double-sided poster, an art booklet, and a making-of documentary).
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony - Give the gift of once again being trapped with other high schoolers and forced to kill each other to escape.
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of DANA - If you don’t play this, Dana will cry.
PlayStation TV Display Stand Dock - Maybe all people need to start using their PlayStation TVs again is a dock to help it stand tall and imitate higher-end consoles. Give PS TV owners a reason to prop the micro console up next to their other systems.
Toys and amiibo we’d give to fellow men and women of culture
Breath of the Wild Link deluxe Nendoroid - It comes with a little horsey for Link and other Nendoroids to ride! There’s also a cheaper, non-horsey version with enough accessories to take down the toughest Test of Strength shrines.
Dragon Quest Slime pocket watch - L M A O
Max Factory Goro Majima figma action figure - Maybe you could sew a little shirt for him.
Amiibo diorama kits - Imported Smash Bros., Monster Hunter Stories, Kirby, Splatoon, playgrounds for amiibos.
Clothes we’d give to improve people’s wardrobes
Sonic the Hedgehog sneakers - I’m sure these would look great even on a fully clothed human.
Breath of the Wild scarf - A sick scarf inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s blue Hyrule Champion tunic. Check out Tony’s Splatoon Gear Brand stickers too!
Bowser Revolution - Another unlicensed piece, but we have no choice but to endorse a t-shirt featuring a Mario Party Bowser silhouette demanding equality.
Neo Geo Bigger Badder Better Long-Sleeve Tee - A must-cop for hypebeasts wanting to wear a hype beast, designed by Nina Matsumoto and Tony Kuchar. Comes with a matching pin!
Books we’d give to bring joy to people’s lives
I’m Stuck in a Video Game - A lovely story about a young girl being zapped into her favorite game, written by Game Center CX producer/narrator Tsuyoshi Kan and illustrated/translated by Nina Matsumoto.
The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up: A Magical Story - Help someone clean up a messy home and life with Marie Kondo. For those who had trouble with her original book, this manga edition makes Ms. Kondo’s tidying lessons more accessible with a cute story about a young professional trying to get her life together.
Delicious in Dungeon - For people who have always wanted the cooking segments of dungeon crawlers turned into a manga entirely about a party of adventurerers cooking recipes out of monsters.
Peow Comics - Everything this publisher puts out is flames, whether it’s detective stories, chronicles of a war between wizards, or a crossover between Yuri on Ice and Evangelion.
Music we’d give to people who haven’t asked us to stop giving them music as gifts
Django - The first original album release by Chip Tanaka, the incredible chiptune alter ego of Nintendo’s best game composer/Creatures Inc. president Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka. His CD includes a thank-you letter from Chip Tanaka (and secret track download code).
Three Movements (releases December 17) - Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae is also releasing her first-ever solo album, promising songs that cross “chiptunes with everything from classical piano and SNES-inspired beats to melodically vague soundscapes and orchestral numbers.”
Prescription for Sleep: Fight for Your Dreams - Iconic game music turned into jazzy lullabies to sleep, relax, and study to. The arrangements are put together and performed by Gentle Love – Norihiko Hibino (composer of Metal Gear Solid and Bayonetta) on saxophone and AYAKI (performer on Etrian Odyssey and PersonaQ) on piano.
Everybody Works - Dream-pop tracks from Oakland-based artist Jay Som / Melissa Duterte. Just a tender, warm album Eric has been getting into lately.
Gifts we’d give to people who would listen to a podcast about grocery shopping
Club Tiny membership: What could be a better gift than entry in an exclusive, positive community of handheld game enthusiasts? Don’t think too much on that question. You’ll not only get our exclusive Grocery/Slice-of-Life podcast, but access to our Discord, a free Tiny enamel pin, and more!
Kiriko Tote Bags - We’re in love with this Portland shop’s patterns, but their simple, chic denim totes are perfect for carrying a basket’s worth of groceries home (we’re using their large chambray bag with Kiriko’s logo).
Click & Grow aerogardens - Grow herbs and/or vegetables at home with these indoor gardening kits. They’re self-watering and use plant cartridges!
Seapoint Farms Dry-Roasted Edamame - An unexpected perfect protein-packed snack. It’s nutty but safe for people with nut allergies!
Charities we’d donate to in someone’s name like that Seinfeld episode except they’re real organizations that will put your money to good use
ACLU donation - The gift of continued protection for our rights.
Animal Welfare Institute - Help reduce animal suffering caused by people.
Flint water donation - I can’t believe this is still necessary, but it is.
The Trevor Project - Help LGBTQ kids when they need it.
If we’ve missed any must-have gifts, let us know!
