Even though it has never really been directly mentioned or referenced, elements of the ancient astronaut theory have influenced our popular culture for a hundred years. Practically, everything from books, movies, television shows and video games. Since we will never be able to definitely prove it here on Earth and we're also on the verge of going back to the moon, establishing colonies on Mars, mining the asteroid belt and exploring deep space, we might actually find physical evidence of advanced civilizations that existed for over thousands of years ago out there in the galaxy. Whether we like it or not, all of this is going to happen eventually. So, we should definitely have this conversation right now. The future of the human race may very well depend on this discovery.

Aliens Are Just Faeries With Better PR
Tumblr media
Encounters with extraterrestrials, goblins, demons, ghosts, spirits, and otherworldly beings have always been part of the human experience.
As modern people, we separate old fairy tales from contemporary stories of extraterrestrial encounters. Even if we don’t believe the latter, most of us concede that aliens could visit us. But if someone claimed to have been abducted by faeries? Well, that’s a harder sell...
But what if aliens and faeries are just different names for the same thing? Side by side, the patterns are hard to ignore—mysterious lights and sounds, strange, inexplicable behavior, human abductions, and missing time.
Folklorists call these recurring themes motifs. Identifying them is easy. Explaining why they persist and what it all means is a much bigger question. One thing is clear, though: people turn to the stories they already know to make sense of the inexplicable.
This idea sits at the heart of two fascinating books on my shelves—one nonfiction, the other a novella: Jacques Vallee’s "Passport to Magonia" (1969) and Poul Anderson’s "The Queen of Air and Darkness" (1971).
In "Passport to Magonia," Vallee traces supernatural encounters across centuries and asks whether elves, angels, and aliens might be different masks for the same phenomenon. He speculates these beings aren’t from another planet but a parallel dimension—one that allows them to sidestep time and space.
In "The Queen of Air and Darkness," Anderson explores a similar idea through science fiction. Human colonists settle on what seems to be an uninhabited world, only to discover an intelligent native species that disguises itself as faeries, manipulating perception to maintain the illusion.
Both Anderson and Vallee demonstrate that myth and perception are deeply intertwined. Their works explore how we struggle to explain the mysterious and how those explanations evolve over time. But these ideas aren’t just relics of old stories or speculative fiction—just look at how UAPs are still making headlines today.
