I’ve always loved the idea that Peach is taller than average while Mario is shorter than average. 5’6” plumber falls in love with 6’0” princess. Then they meet 7’4” space princess, eventually. Mario and Daisy(5’5”) have short person get togethers where they plot to find out wtf the tall ones have been hiding on the top of shelves or cupboards.

3, 32, 51. Vlad and Cătălina
Thank you so much for sending these my way, dearest! ❤️️
⇒ from OTPs and Self-Ships Asks (Vlad and Cătălina)
3. Do they wear the other’s clothes?
Because both darlings live in the 15th century, exchanging clothes is not as straightforward as it is for modern-day couples. In essence, there are no unisex items as the fashion styles for men and women are quite distinct during this period — therefore, the answer is largely no.
BUT.
Occasionally, Cătălina does wear Vlad's clothes, particularly after intimate moments. She sometimes slips into his linen shirt or tunic for the feeling of extra closeness and intimacy. While Vlad is not particularly tall (we stan short kings — *ehm* voivodes *ehm* — in this house), he has a bulky physique, so she enjoys the comfortable looseness of his clothing without feeling overwhelmed by the extra fabric that might make her feel like she is drowning in it. If she happens to feel cold, he never hesitates to offer his giubea (a long, fur-lined coat) and wrap her in it.
32. Who’s the better story teller?
This is the perfect opportunity for me to dig into the whole "Vlad and Cătălina as parents" thing skdsksdsfls sending you tons of hugs for this one! 🥰️
They are both exceptional storytellers, and their boys could never favour one over the other. It's just the way their storytelling styles differ significantly, as each has a talent for a specific type of stories.
Cătălina is a highly creative soul and has the innate ability to spontaneously craft fantastic, adventure-filled stories. Her passion for storytelling was kindled during her own childhood — growing up without the presence of a mother in a household dominated by men, she found solace in the nightly fairy tales spun by her wet nurse which felt like something that she did not have to share with her brothers. Later as a mother herself, Cătălina holds dearly to the tradition of tucking her children into bed and inventing stories that transport her boys to magical lands. These tales are filled with princesses, dragons, castles, knights, and epic quests.
Vlad is not often allowed to spend each evening with his children because of the duties his position demands, but when an opportunity presents itself (he tries to make sure it does), he shares stories about their ancestors and history, all of which were imparted to him in his childhood to emphasise the bravery of their lineage. He wants his sons to be familiar with this, too, and tells them legends of the Black Voivode, the founder and long-time ruler of their land, and their great-grandfather Mircea, who held sway over the largest region in Wallachian history. Vlad also clarifies the reasons why their family consists of dragons, and why their grandfather earned that moniker. From time to time, he also tries to delve into his childhood memories to recount tales that his mother used to tell him and his siblings.
51. What’s a non-verbal way they say I love you?
In Vlad's case, it means offering Cătălina freedom and opportunities rarely afforded to women in their era. Cătălina is a fiercely independent and rebellious spirit, often struggling with accepting the status quo and, despite the unique challenges of her life with Vlad, she gains the assurance that she can make her own decisions in many areas. Vlad deeply loves her and is aware of the fact that their situation is less than perfect, especially with him being largely absent. Therefore, he respects her autonomy and allows her to adjust aspects of her life as she sees fit. (This is especially important given the significant burdens she carries because being a royal mistress often suggests a precarious position.) Consequently, he treats her as an equal partner, not as a possession. Vlad believes that love should not equate to imprisonment — as a rebellious and independent man himself, he understands that such constraints can feel suffocating.
In Cătălina's case, it means staying remarkably persistent, at least as seen through Vlad's eyes. His life is a rollercoaster of constant tumult and unpredictability, and Cătălina, for the most part, grits her teeth and tries to adapt to whatever challenges come her way as a direct consequence of his duties and responsibilities. This adaptability comes to her a bit more naturally, largely due to her supremely pragmatic and rational mindset, but there are moments in her life where she is thrust into very challenging, almost overwhelming situations that are difficult to handle. Looking into her past, particularly her history with men (both positive and negative), this only serves as clear evidence of the depth of her love for Vlad, but also about a profound belief in his mission, his purpose, and the path that he has chosen.

Factory Girl is an interesting film, just for me personally artsy type of films can just go over my head. Not that it wasn't a good film, I just have a short attention span lol. It sucks what happened behind the scenes, and I hope HW gets his time in prison. Disgusting bastard 😤. But we stan King Hayden in our households. So heart warming to hear he defended his co star. Just a good person all around.
As for Grey Sweat Shorts Gate 😏, I'm glad to have been sent to horny jail with the rest of the Horny Toads 😜. Careful Ladies and Gents of the blog, Sweat pants season is upon us soon, and our boy Hayden about to be just out there again wearing sweats. And he kept up with the training and weight gain he got for doing Kenobi. We are about to go mad with thirst once he starts popping up again 😏.
the recurrence of gray shorts gate brings warm feelings to my heart 😜 and also unhinged messages to my ask box lol
i hope Hayden is relaxing out of the public eye (assuming he’s finished filming for Ahsoka now?) and i hope he doesn’t have to deal with any paps (as much as i miss pictures of him)

Surprised to hear you like Henry VI and Margaret of Anjou, given that you're a fan of Richard, Duke of York. Isn't that a conflict of interest or something? Lol. What's your opinion on Elizabeth Woodville and the Woodville clan, Margaret Beaufort, Warwick and the Neville clan, and George, Duke of Clarence? (Basically what's your opinion on the rest of the players of the Wars of the Roses lol.)
Gosh, anon you are encouraging me!! I love that you care about my thoughts <3. Alright then, let's start.
I used to be very anti-Margaret of Anjou. Until I started to look at things from her perspective. York was dangerously popular with a lot of children and a formidable wife. Margaret must have felt insecure. Also, there is this theory that Margaret's mentor and confidant William de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk was murdered under the order of the Duke of York. That must have been a tipping point. But I still think that York was the better ruler and person. I will get a lot of hate for this, but women in general were not suitable rulers for the Middle Ages. They were often driven by more personal ideals (Empress Matilda vs. Stephen is a great example and Margaret was no different). Ofc there were men like that too but women seemed to always be like that. As a woman, I understand and the later periods were more suitable for female leadership. York was a much better ruler. He was driven by the stability of the realm rather than his personal issues (he put his own son-in-law in prison and Margaret wouldn't even budge on her failure advisors). And her entitlement was mind-boggling. I love how messed up she was. And Henry...I just feel sorry for him. The Middle Ages also were not a time for artistic and kind kings lol.
Elizabeth Woodville and the Woodville Clan:
As I have said, I pretty much like everyone before 1485 lol. But Elizabeth Woodville was annoying af. That made her interesting but I can't get over how incredibly greedy she was. She was the daughter of a minor gentry and widow of a Lancastrian knight. Edward makes her queen and she abuses that power so much. She has problems with everyone. Warwick, George, Richard, any noble who didn't kiss her arse and even Edward. Queens were meant to level the mind of King. Edward III's queen famously saved French clergy by going on her knees to beg the King for mercy. Ofc that was a bit dramatic but many Queens did this. It was called the Queen's mercy or something like that. But boy was she a hell of a woman. Despite being raised in a pretty privileged household, she was shrewd and survived to the end. She could have learned a thing or two from Cecily Neville about how to put that strong personality to better use but regardless. Also, I love how she was shunned fron Henry Tudor's court when Richard welcomed her to his with open arms. I mean...karma. But all in all, I like her. Its as they say "well behaved women seldom make history". She had flaws (so did the everyone else!) but her character is interesting and admirable. And despite that shaved forehead, she is a gorgeous woman. So I get where Edward was coming from XD The other social climbing members Woodville..not so much. The shameless way that they tried to push themselves in and take hold of power when they had literally fought on the losing Lancastrian side is embarrassing and oh so disgusting. Like Warwick secured the throne for Edward and they were given precedence over him. I just...yeah. John Woodville legit married a 65 year old duchess (he was 19) for money and power. They were a hungry bunch and courting them was Edward IV's biggest mistake and towards the end of his life, I think he saw that.
Margaret Beaufort
I will keep this short since I don't know much about her but I dislike her. I understand that she went through a lot. Her father apparently suicided when she was 1 and that is traumatic. And back then suicide was mocked and disgraced. She ofc blamed the Duke of York....cause at this point why not? She ofc went through a really young and traumatic birth at 13. Her husband was gross and that's that. And we know that Edward kept her son exiled so she couldn't see him. But despite all this, I just don't like her? I suppose its the super impressive Plantagenet women who just make me look at the sleezy and dull Margaret with disdain. And she gives me real phony vibes. Like at times, she just seemed to cosplay Cecily Neville lol. When you see women like Cecily Neville and Margaret of Anjou taking charge in the way they did, Margaret and her deceptive ways are just cringe worthy.
The Earl of Warwick
This man. Just this man. The way that England seemed to revolve around his whims is amazing. He was a real Duke of York stan and so I have to appreciate him. But he was so fearless. Henry VI, Edward IV, Margaret of Anjou, you name it. He stood against them. The Duke of York seemed to be someone he admired but other than that, he fought for himself. He helped Edward take the crown and worked hard to keep Edward's throne. He was embarrassed with the whole secret marriage saga but still stuck by. But Edward clearly forgot who he owed his success too. The man escaped an assassination by Henry VI's men and saved his father and uncle from it. He actually took charge in the first Battle of St. Albans in 1455 because his rivals the Percys were mocking him. I just love him. Ngl, sometimes when I read about him, I just blush. A man if there ever was one. There were so many attempts at disgracing him. He was the Captain of Calais and in that role fought Medieval pirates! And he was ruthless at it. People loved him and he carried that popularity well. I should stop fangirling over a dead guy. I think I made it pretty clear that I love him XD.
Neville clan
I like them too. Warwick's father was pretty much York's best friend and I love him for it. They were also social climbers like the Woodvilles but so much better at it. They didn't have the entitlement that the Woodvilles did and managed their powers well. Cecily Neville was ofc a Neville and she is one of my favorites. One of my favorite thing about them is how courageous they were. Like all of them. Unfortunately, Anne and Isabel are both obscure figures. I wish we knew more about them. They were pushed around like prizes. Good on Richard for giving Anne a position to make her own decision. I feel bad for those girls. Although the York brothers were known to be good looking so lucky them?
George, Duke of Clarence
Ah, George. I love this man. If there was one son of York who inherited his father's glamour and charm, it was George. And I love that he stood up to his brother and sister-in-law. He was sometimes too problematic but I still love that! Glamourous and problematic. How can one not love the man? Although his betrayal of Edward is kind of sad considering that Edward really tried to be like a dad to his brothers. George took Edward's love for granted for too long. His breakdown after his wife's death is really sad too. Interestingly, this seems to be a pattern with the Plantagenet men. They all have breakdowns and downfalls after the death of their wives. Their women are so much stronger emotionally.
I know this was long! I hope you enjoyed the post :D. I would love to know your thoughts too and if you agree or disagree. Seriously, thank you for letting me talk about this. Nothing makes me happier than to discuss these people!

I have a question for the hot take queen. What are your unpopular litg opinions or just general scorching hot takes
hot take queen BCKSBFKDHFKSH please!!!! anyways here we go
marisol is bobby’s best friend in the villa.
i’m glad chelsea isn’t a LI
noah is the toxic one in Nope™
i’ve never been all that bothered by bobby not sharing a bed with mc if she comes back from cursed casa single
casa was a good idea in theory it was just poorly executed
chelsea 👏 and 👏 bobby 👏 could 👏 have 👏 been 👏 such 👏 a 👏 good 👏 couple 👏
i’m obsessed with chelsea and henrik too. i wish he hadn’t been treated as scraps for her when/if he returns. i think he could’ve been a good match for her
idk how unpopular this one is but i find the way none of the s2 boys are held accountable absolutely infuriating. ESPECIALLY rahim. the way hes applauded for coming clean at dinner after the girl’s wee day out after seeing the fallout for HIS decisions and staying silent for far too long. i don’t understand why jo is the one being attacked. i mean like fuck jo she sucks but ??? she wasn’t the one actively in a couple ???
elisa is the gossip sneezer and i will never understand how it got turned on chelsea. like mama you’re the one telling people shit???
bobby’s canon height is incorrect. that’s not the hot take. the hot take is that unlike most ppl thinking he’d be taller, i refuse to accept that he’s 5’9 because my mans is 5’7. short king shit.
whichever half of mason/levi you don’t romance in season one is objectively the worst character in the entire series in any season. that man cannot take no for an answer.
aj > marisol > talia > elisa > yasmin > lily
^ fusebox fucking wasted aj. she was SUCH a good LI.
iona not being a LI is a homophobic hate crime against me specifically
oh of course we stan bill in this household

Tag: Thumbprint Challenge
Okay, I’ve been tagged by several people for this one!! My wonderful friends @mel-writes-with-her-dragons, @ardawyn, AND @akindofmagictoo have all tagged me in this, and I’m feeling very loved. ❤️
rules: look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. what are five to ten narrative elements or tropes that continuously pop up in your work? tag as many people as the number of tropes you listed.
This is going to be a callout post for myself, but at the same time I don’t intend to stop using these tropes any time soon.
1. Romance. There will be romance in every single story. I can’t stop myself. As cognizant I am of the need for there to be more stories that don’t involve romance, I personally am in love with love and enjoy being able to give my characters a cute person to smooch.
1a. Height Differences. There will 98% of the time be a large height difference between the romantic pairings. Again, no idea why, and we stan a short king in this household, but if the love interest is a man he will be significantly taller than the main character.
1b. Battle Couple. I’ve been actively moving away from this trope and trying to write women who can’t physically fight but who are strong in other ways, but it’s incredibly prevalent in my earlier works that I have to mention it. I’ve also started two projects (Just Jane and The Lucent Garden) that have women who can fight paired with men who cannot. I’m having fun exploring relationships with different dynamics than the ones I’m used to writing.
1c. Antagonistic Beginnings/Meet Uglies. Where is the fun in having things go well when I could have them go horribly wrong?
2. Speculative Elements. As I’m sure anyone who’s taken a look at my WIPs has noticed, I write very few projects that don’t have some sort of speculative element in it. Whether it’s fantasy, science fiction, or paranormal, there is almost always something to separate it from the real world.
3. Female Lead(s). I have written exactly one project with a male lead (Snapshots) and it was like pulling teeth. I wrote it as an exercise to practice and to prove that I could, but from now on I will be sticking with my ladies. I very much think that it’s because I grew up reading fantasy centred around men and was mad every single time that the women would just wait to be rescued.
4. Female Friendship. Again, this one comes from the media of my youth where women were always pitted against each other. I have decided to say “fuck that” and write women being friends or at least not disliking each other due to competing for the same dude.
5. Dramatic “No!” Moment. I don’t know why this always pops up. I love it, though.
6. Actual Communication. My characters will always have the simple conversations to resolve things rather than letting them blow into giant fights. Literally the only times they don’t is when the information they’re hiding could have horrible consequences if it’s revealed.
7. Accurate Concussion Protocol. Oh my gods, okay, I played a lot of sports growing up and saw so many people take stupid risks with their health when it came to concussions. I try to teach important first aid skills in my stories whenever possible because of this. So Remnants and Indigo Wars have discussions about concussions, and in Indigo Wars we learn breathing exercises to get through anxiety.
There we go!! I think I hit on all of the important ones.
I am going to leave this as an open tag bc I don’t know who’s filled it out already! Please feel free to say I tagged you!

here is part 2 of my sci fi recs masterlist! again, i could’ve gone on with even more recs but i decided to draw the line here. this set for the most part errs on the darker side, thematically, visually, conceptually etc. i personally find it super thought-provoking and intriguing but that’s just me. i highly recommend reading the tw under the cut if you’re thinking of watching, especially the matrix and space gothic slides. please view at your discretion <3
part 1/2
If you like WLW (um idk why I only made this slide based on identity; it just kinda happened lmao but I think it works):
Siren: (tw: parent loss, grief, thalassophobia) a mermaid surfaces in a cove town looking for her lost sister. Polyamorous relationship between a man, a black/indigenous woman, and the mermaid!!!! Environmentalism! As a person who has thalassophobia, I didn’t find this too hard to watch. There aren’t that many underwater scenes, thankfully.
Black Mirror: San Junipero: (tw: grief, but otherwise none that I recall; it’s pretty lighthearted) two women meet in a beach resort in the 80s and fall in love. Interracial wlw!
Orphan Black: (tw: suicide, infertility, rape implication, VB, language, drug use) a woman realizes she is one of several clones and uncovers an elaborate corporate conspiracy. This is one of my personal favorites with great rep of complex women of all ages and bodily autonomy. Several central queer characters and a black male secondary character!
Starfish: (tw: grief, a few jump scares and brief monstrous imagery, blood) after the death of her best friend, a young woman breaks into the deceased’s apartment and discovers a chain of music tapes that could save the world. Weird, subtle, and experimental. Not to sound like a surfer but you kinda have to allow yourself to be in the vibe. The main character and her friend were definitely a thing imo.
Annihilation: (tw: body horror, VB, disturbing imagery) a team of women scientists explore an anomaly that rapidly mutates genes. There are canonical and coded wlw and multiple (light-skinned) POC in this but the rep is short-lived. I put it on because although it should’ve been more ambitious with the casting, I think it breaks *some* ground for Hollywood sci fi with the all-woman team and more than one WOC. Wack ending though.
Mad Max: Fury Road: (tw: rape implication, violence) I think everyone knows about this one but: in the apocalypse, a woman breaks 4 younger women out of a harem. A badass car chase across the desert ensues. A bit light on plot/worldbuilding, but sooooo cool-looking and very thematic!!!!
If you liked STRANGER THINGS:
It: (tw: VB) don’t actually watch this lmao I’m serious. It’s really stupid, and not in a funny way. But I do think Stranger Things was inspired by this story overall. The modern It films are better but they’re also really kjslsklskls stupid? Stephen King in general is obsolete imo.
The Thing: (tw: VB) an alien that can take the form of others wreaks havoc on a scientific facility in Antarctica. It’s dark and vibey, but I feel like it’s just Alien in Antarctica with truly terrible special effects tbh?? Others feel differently. It’s also classified as sci fi/horror, so stay away if you’re easily scared! Not too good on representation.
Super 8: (tw: some language) a group of preteens witnesses an alien-caused train crash as they’re filming a home movie. Not diverse but I definitely think it inspired a lot of sci fi for the 2010s, ESPECIALLY Stranger Things. Not too scary either!
ET: (tw: it’s been a really long time since I watched so I don’t remember but it’s rated PG) I think everyone knows what this is about!
Alien: (tw: VB) truckers in space discover a deadly evolving alien. One of my favorite movies of all time! I love the aesthetic and the mood and worldbuilding so much. Ellen Ripley is one of the first Final Girls in the horror genre. I personally found this more of a sci fi than a horror movie but I’d say stay away if you’re nervous!!
Terminator: (tw: VB) a deadly android is sent to kill a woman who’s destined to birth the man who saves the world. Terminator 2 is way better imo because it centers on Sarah rather than the dudes saving her and trying to kill her. But it’s still worth a watch, you know, for the culture.
If you liked CONTAGION:
War of the Worlds: (tw: blood) pretty straightforward aliens come to Earth to take over. Sorry to rec another T*m Cruise movie but I really like the alien design and the apocalypsey feel of this one. Baby Dakota Fanning is in it too!
Falling Skies: (tw: VB, body horror, rape) alien invasion yada yada but the alien lore gets more interesting as it goes on. It’s kind of cheesy and yeah maybe I did discover it by looking up the iCarly boyfriend (and what about it??) but it’s nice to have on in the downtime. An Asian woman co-stars.
Knowing: (tw: blood) school students unearth a time capsule that contains a sheet from a girl who predicted all the tragic world events between 1959-2009. This is NOT a good movie but it’s SO hilarious to me because of the acting and contrivances. Fun to group-watch!!!!
10 Cloverfield Lane: (tw: VB, emotional abuse) a woman wakes up in a bunker to a captor who tells her that the world has fallen to alien apocalypse. I think this movie elevates the original Cloverfield in pretty much every way. Again, super tense and moody. The conflict revolves around whether or not the captor is being truthful.
Train to Busan: (tw: extreme VB and disturbing imagery) a man and his daughter are on a train when a zombie hops on at the last minute. It’s Korean with an all-Asian cast; Choi Woo-shik co-stars. I definitely wouldn’t watch if you’re scared of blood and gore. It’s very gross and violent.
12 Monkeys: (tw: ableism, violence) a man from the 2030s is sent back to the 1990s to prevent the plague that will end the world. I think the aesthetics of this are really cool but otherwise it’s not a favorite. But I think it appeals to people who like apocalypse and time travel stuff!
If you liked THE MATRIX:
Strange Days: (tw: rape, sex, nudity, VB, racism, police brutality) memories can be saved to hard-drives and sold on the black market for exorbitant prices. Very problematic and triggering presentation of rape, but young Angela Basset stars and there’s a condemnation of police brutality that’s still relevant 20+ years after its release.
Upgrade: (tw: ableism, VB, fridging) a disabled man installs an AI in his spine to help him move and investigate the murder of his wife. The premise is glaringly ableist and I feel weird even recommending it tbh but it’s got great visuals and a few good twists.
Altered Carbon: (tw: VB, weird interracial body switching, uhhh I haven’t finished this one IDK) in a society where human bodies are interchangeable, a man wakes up in a new body after 300 years of his mind being dormant. A Latina woman co-stars, two Asian characters in a subplot, a few other POC here and there as well. I think season 2 stars a black man.
eXistenZ: (tw: VB, anti-Asian racism, general weirdness? IDK it’s hard to describe. There are guns made out of bones and weirdly sexual visuals.) after someone tries to assassinate her, a video game designer and her bodyguard must play through her virtual reality game in order to save the only copy of the game.
Minority Report: (tw: VB, eye removal/insertion) all crimes are predicted and criminals reported before they are committed. The main character is preemptively accused of murder. This one is really white but it was one of the first movies that got me into sci fi. Early 2000s Colin Farrell <3.
If you liked WESTWORLD:
Humans: (tw: uncanny valley, objectification) androids are household helpers and public assistants throughout Britain until one day they start developing consciences. It hits a lot of the themes of Westworld without all the unnecessary pretentiousness, “edginess,” and “grittiness,” and it stars Gemma Chan and Colin Morgan!!
Blade Runner 2049: (^) an android is ordered to find and kill a human/android hybrid. It’s not without its issues but it’s one of my favorite movies of all time, right up there with Alien. So beautiful, so thematic, so thought-provoking (to me, anyway. I know a lot of people thought it was way too slow).
Ex Machina: (^) a man is invited to a private estate to help test the intelligence of an android. It’s kind of predictable imo but you know Oscar Isaac and Sonoya Mizuno are in it so we have to stan, and so is Domhnall Gleeson, for the SW fans! I like how isolated and quiet it feels.
I Am Mother: (tw: blood, gaslighting) after an extinction event, a young woman is raised by a lone android in a human repopulation facility until one day a woman knocks. It starts off slow and a bit generic, but I’m obsessed with the 2nd and 3rd acts of this movie---good acting, dialogue, and fantastic visuals. It has that same isolated feel as Ex Machina with only three characters, all of which are women/woman-coded!!!
If you liked ALIEN (space gothic):
Battlestar Galactica (2004-2008 reboot): (tw: genocide, war, colonization, VB, uncanny valley, rape, infidelity) space opera that follows humanity as it fights the ever-evolving and powerful enemy of their own creation: androids named Cylons. Um? I L O V E THIS SHOW SO MUCH and I truly do think it’s everything sci fi should be. There is a really unfortunate Miss Saigon-esque romance plot in season 1 and a lazily-written love triangle involving a black woman in season 3, but otherwise it’s one of my all-time favorites and I highly recommend. It’ll spin your mind and tug your heartstrings for years.
Black Mirror: Men Against Fire: (tw: genocide, war, nudity) soldiers in the near future protect citizens from mutant zombies, but one soldier starts experiencing strange hallucinations in the field. This is such an underrated Black Mirror episode starring a black man. There’s brief objectification of a black woman but it’s very anti-military and it has an interesting sterile aesthetic that reminds me of Alien.
High Life: (tw: rape, black holes/space anxiety, very disturbing) prisoners are given the option to join a space expedition and serve as experimental subjects en route to a black hole. Please please stay away if you are triggered by sexual violence of any kind. There’s almost no physical violence in this movie but it’s psychologically haunting imo.
The Faculty: (tw; VB, drug use) high schoolers discover their teachers are being possessed by an invading alien race. I LOVE THIS MOVIE LMFAOOOO. The cast is SO wild---Elijah Wood, John Oliver, Usher, Salma Hayek, Josh Hartnett??? And I’m probably forgetting more. The combination of the cast, the terrible dialogue, and shitty special effects is PEAK comedy imo. But bear in mind it’s bloody!!
Prometheus: (tw: body horror, VB, uncanny valley) a crew of scientists heads on a deep space mission to find the aliens who created the human race. A prequel to Alien, but I kind of view it as its own thing. Despite the plot holes, I love this movie too! It was one of my sci fi gateways and the visuals are stunning. It’s pretty gory though so if that’s not your thing stay away.
Life: (tw: extreme VB) a lesser Alien, but it provides all the space gothic tropes (jokey crew, shots of space, really pretty spaceship, everyone dies, creepy alien) with a well-known cast---Gyllenhaal, Reynolds, etc.
The X Files: (tw: a few episodes contain 90s racism, sexism, queerphobia etc but you can skip them) a lot of people have watched this so I barely have to explain, but it’s one of my favorites. Two FBI agents investigate multiple aliens and get involved in government conspiracies along the way. A good gateway!
A Quiet Place: (tw: child loss, VB, tension) I think most people know what this is about too. Alien apocalypse with aliens that hunt by sound. The daughter in the family is deaf, and so is the actress who portrays her. The representation of deafness was critically acclaimed.
