He sits up; sorts through his nesting stuff maybe a little too intently–maybe that’s an “inner omega” thing or a presentation heat thing, or maybe it’s just . . . just because he gets to have nesting stuff. Gets to, like . . . 

He’s allowed to have it, he means. Like . . . nobody can tell him he can’t. Nobody can tell him he just–that’s he’s just not–not that. 

He sniffles a couple times, rubbing the heel of his hand up across his eyes, and then sort of just–hugs Secret’s blanket, and then spreads it out in his best attempt at a nest base. Tucks the edges in between the seat cushions like the way the girl in the video did in her nesting pit, and smooths it all out as neat and careful as he can. That part’s pretty easy, really. Or, like–pretty straightforward, anyway. And the girl in the video demonstrated how to use, like . . . “packmate’s bequeathments”, she’d called them in the video. Which isn’t really what he’s got, because . . . because nobody gave him anything, and he doesn’t . . . he doesn’t have packmates, anyway. Obviously. 

He definitely doesn’t. 

But–he doesn’t think the team’d mind that he took any of it, so . . . so it’s fine, he thinks.

Recs (Galileo and Doctor Who)

I decided I would try to use Chrome browser to read through some of the Chinese fanfic in the Galileo tag. I have done before, but the language barrier is fierce, so I did it infrequently. I just went through all of the stories written by RiverFragrance recently and decided to put together a little recs list of those I enjoyed regardless of the fact that I'm probably missing some nuance.

I've also been reading shippy Doctor Who fanfic recently and encountered two very excellent, very different, stories for the pairing of Tenth Doctor/Donna Noble.

She’s still cloaked in impossible timelines, stitched together in nothing like order, but the sharp lines are less cutting. Uncomfortable, but not debilitating.

It hurts to look at her, but no more than staring at an overly bright light.

My comments: There's a ghost in the TARDIS. Gorgeously written, tangled, and so rewarding in that it fixes Donna’s fate in a very unique manner.

They gave in and kissed her fingertips. It was fine as long as they kept things compartmentalized. They had heaps of practice, after all.

My comments: Pay attention to the tags. It's rare that I find smut that is as detailed as this, and even rarer still that it manages to render kinks that I find very interesting to read -- marking, bondage, and dubcon -- in an elegant way that I love. It's an incomplete fic, but the chapter posted is complete as is.

“Tim should stop being a fancy gadget snob and remember to utilize every resource available to him,” Bernard retorts matter-of-factly, trying not to have an existential crisis about that and just scrolling through a few more blurry candid photos of the apparent Super . . . kid, or whatever, he doesn’t know. No, wait, Superboy was “the Kid” for years, he needs to come up with something else. “Superchild”? “Superpreteen”? 

“Superfuckingweird”, maybe. 

If nothing else, camera phones are way too good for only photos this crappy to have ended up on the internet, so that’s very weird and suspicious and unlikely as fuck. 

Note to self, Bernard thinks, and tries a few more Superboy-related searches that end in absolutely zero Superboy-related results coming up. Which is also weird and suspicious and unlikely as fuck, frankly, but in a more expected way since, again, the “unrealitied” issue. 

Thought there might be some relevant overlap there, considering. 

“Seriously, should I know this kid?” he asks. “Like, do you know him or–” 

“I think he’s Superman’s kid,” Superboy says, his voice very, very quiet. 

Bernard stops talking. He does not actually know one single thing about what Superboy’s personal relationship with Superman was like, between the evil cyborg and Hawaii and Young Justice and the Teen Titans and literally dying, but from the way the guy just said that . . . 

Well, he maybe has a hypothesis or two, is all. Or at least a hypothesis or two about how Superboy saw said relationship, or maybe just how Superboy maybe might’ve figured said relationship was as close to certain kinds of relationships as he was ever gonna get, or . . . 

And now Superman doesn’t even know him.

WIP excerpt for Waywren Truesong; "Cassie has a sexuality crisis, Kon has a gender one, and Circe makes everything worse". (( chrono || non-chrono ))

Cassie’d thought she’d been wrong the way she was, and that she’d had to be something different. Had to at least pass for something different. Had to make people think she wasn’t . . . wasn’t what she is. What she’s always been, and what she’s spent way too much of her life trying not to be. 

She doesn’t even know why she was trying to do that, except she knows exactly why she was trying to do that. 

And now her hair’s too long and she owns too much makeup she never even wanted to use to begin with and hates her too-feminine costume and half the clothes in her closet and she doesn’t know what she actually wants to look like. Doesn’t know what she ever wanted to look like, at this point. She spent so long just–she spent so long trying to be something she’s not that she just doesn’t know . . . way too many things about herself, at this point. 

She wishes she could ask Kon what he thinks about how she’s been dressing, how he thinks she’d look if she went back to the short hair, but that’d be such a selfish, shitty thing to ask him. And besides–beside, he’s a guy, and she wants girls to like the way she looks. She wants girls to look at her and see someone they want, or someone they at least want to know more about. 

And more than that, she wants to like the way she looks herself, which is some other thing entirely.
