[Overwatch, MCU] Old Stories, New Faces Chapter 2 Writing Notes

First off, fixes for chapter 1: Apparently with Chapter 1, I uploaded the draft where I had the placeholder "the Soviets" instead of Department X (the specific group in charge of the Red Room and super soldier programs). This has been fixed. Also in chapter 1, I used HUD (Heads up display) instead of HMD (head/helmet mounted display), the difference being HUD is stationary and more like you would find in a cockpit. I need to name my drafts more clearly.

If you haven’t read Morning Coffee (the first in this series) you might not know that Gabriel and Jack look like they are in their early twenties...and so do Amelie and Sombra and...no, I suppose that is enough info right here. I’m doing a lot of hand waving with the upgraded capabilities of Reaper’s nanites.

Jack has Cortical Visual Impairment/Blindness from traumatic injury aka Zurich; Gabriel gets frustrated that he can’t heal it with nanites and sometimes thinks Jack is somehow blocking him. But since there isn’t a way to image Jack’s brain pre-Zurich blast, there is no certainty why the nano-healing doesn’t work. 

Also, CB can involve hallucinations. Let’s just say it was really hard for Jack to believe Shrike and Reaper’s identities...

If asked, both Gabriel and Jack would accuse the other of dumping messes on them. Both are right, especially in Overwatch Era; such as Gabriel would do something creative coverups in the field to get around a political landmine Jack/Overwatch is stuck in, and then Jack has to make official stories and promises to politicians to keep Overwatch in the clear from said coverups. 

I have a whole thing on Overwatch language headcanons but let’s go with the short version. First the language backgrounds: Gabriel grew up bilingual with Spanish and English, Amelie grew up with French and learned English at her rich school as well as Russian (though that was more informal among ballet friends), Sombra grew up with Spanish and is self-taught with a number of languages, and Jack grew up with English and learned a lot of Spanish from friends and high school then developing fluency in the army/with Gabriel. Working in a rural farming area I have lots of thoughts on rural area development and recent immigrant families settling in farming areas which leads me to think that Jack would grow up learning Spanish from classmates. Gabe and Jack are polyglots out of political necessity (to various degrees of fluency), and over time all four have picked up a number of languages.  This is seriously the short version somehow.

The four of them tend to slip and switch between Spanish, French, and English. They are very opinionated about each other’s accents. 

 Bucky on the other hand, grew up with English, learned a number of swears and interesting phrases in the army, then picked up (fluent) Russian and (almost fluent) German.

So...I’m a pharmacist with no ICU experience and thus did a brief review of clinical guidelines for sedation/anesthesia (based on the idea that this is somewhat like post-operative care) and frostbite treatment (for fucked up cryogenics). I don’t mention it, because idk if anyone else really wants all the the deets, but per a Hydra Winter Soldier protocol (like seriously, this has to be a thing that exists in MCU in all its terribleness), Jack gave him propofol for induction (and a few maintenance infusions to keep him at a RASS of -3 aka Moderate sedation aka movement or eye opening in response to voice (but no eye contact)).  Hydra probably actually recommends a -4 (no response to voice, but response to physical contact) or -5 Unarousable. This is brought to you by Shit I Think About that Never Makes it into the Story. Also, this is not medical advice and you shouldn’t have this stuff at home to try on your own anyways. 

Reasons why it would suck to treat Bucky: 1) Supersoldier (wtf does that mean for metabolism???? Would it matter for only kidney/liver metabolism or also plasma esterases??? What about volume of distribution???), 2) Missing an arm (aka need to consider loss of limb in calculating drug doses), 3) Hydra’s bullshit science and inhuman treatment, 4) all Hydra medical records would be affected by 3), 5) ICU delirium or brainwashed POW reasonably freaking out...you decide!, and for nuWatch specifically, 6) Does this medical equipment look outdated to you? And 7)Out of your league as a field medic, Jack? Can’t take him to a hospital and Mercy ain’t here so sucks to be you.

Poor Bucky is going to go through a lot of Yes? No? Yes????? Trying to figure out why Jack seems so familiar. And the conclusions he’s making on available data are...interesting. 

I’m choosing to place the Avengers movie in fall of 2012. There is going to be a lot of timeline bending from past that point.

I’m trying to convey that nuWatch working with informed consent medically wise with Bucky, though Bucky doesn’t really understand at this point. 

Weird writing experience: Going from a POV where there characters know are familiar with the other characters and what’s going on (mostly) to a POV that doesn’t know who the fuck these people are or what is going on. And all this because I originally wanted to impart that Bucky thinks nuWatch are Red Room rebels and it just...continued.

I made a chart to make sure I keep Who Knows What clear, with the main players being nuWatch, Bucky, Avengers, Hydra, and SHIELD proper. Misconceptions have a fun potential.

[Overwatch, MCU] Old Stories, New Faces Chapter 1 Writing Notes

Every so often I have thoughts on what future things Overwatch has and does not have. Like, swiping cards vs. chip cards vs. having money cards at all instead of just apps or implanted chips. Apple’s “pay with your face” just disturbs me with phrasing implications though.

I also spend a lot of time thinking of effects of climate change plus slow movement to a more solarpunk future (especially since a number of details in the game make me think of solarpunk), hence, among other things, thoughts on eco-wine production and the loss of traditional grapes/vineyards.

I’m having a lot of thoughts on Widowmaker and Sombra showing their faces so blatantly for a secret (?) organization. I’m choosing to put it as Talon!Widowmaker doesn't actually have a life outside of Talon thus not worrying about facial recognition and Sombra is confident her ability to circumnavigate and/or hack anything that snaps a pic of her. In this fic, they are being a bit more undercover.

From what I understand, two feet of concrete would more or less eliminate wifi, work as soundproofing, and super soldier proofing so yeah random detail for why Sombra didn’t have the deets on that room.

I’m not big on descriptive details because I tend to make them heavy handed so if you want to imagine it how I imagine it, their skins are Widowmaker Noire+Anti-face rec makeup, Soldier 76 Jet, Sombra Augmented +anti-face rec makeup, and Reaper Classic.

Thinking of cryogenics and Mei’s short vs. what the process looks like in CA:WS brings makes it way too easy to remember pictures of frostbite progression in class.

I’m still 50/50 on whether McCree (and a companion or companions) is alive and will make an appearance in this crossover. I have an idea but I’m not sure if it will go with the flow in the end...either way, it won’t be in this particular story in my ‘verse.

[KHR fic, writing notes] Team Mom Varia Edition

For chapter 3 of TMVE on AO3

Ximena Del Hierro. Random OC Storm Swordmaster, because Squalo takes down big names and not all of them are Rain Flame Users or men. Not much detail is going to Del Hierro.

I SWEAR we will get to Dino at some point.  I’ve actually written the part where Dino first mets Tsuna already and I am so impatient to get to that part of the story!

Lussuria’s use of -chan is to be affectionate with Tsuna and to annoy Squalo. If you have thoughts on whether you like it or I over do it, I’m open to hearing them. I’m a bit indecisive on it.

“there isn’t an ounce of subtlety in the brat’s nature” Squalo is the pot calling the kettle black; and Bel grows to being better at being sneaky than Squalo in time. Better than Squalo isn’t saying all that much though.

Squalo differentiates between Tsuna and Bel as kid and brat most of the time.

”Aren’t you cute” I realized when going back and forth trying to find a spot in my master doc that Lussaria says this to both Tsuna and Squalo when he meets them for the first time. I didn’t intend for that but I like it now that I noticed it.

In my headcanon, Squalo was already in the Varia when Xanxus decided he wanted to take it over...and Xanxus already had Lussuria at that point.

Random Backstory because we get so little on the characters and I can’t resist adding more women in the background at least since it will be a while before I can get the story to the KHR canon ladies. SO, yes, Squalo’s Grandma is a badass bisexual lady who rules her sword-wielding family with an iron fist. Not a literal metal fist, like in the case of Squalo.

And come on, who hasn’t considered where does Lussuria come from? And I decided his eye thing is familial hence, Quattrocchi aka four eyes. And why Sicilian? Because my background sound was the Sicily episode of Huang’s World.

I haven’t actually read the novels so I’m making up stuff about Ottavio to suit my story needs

Also haven’t seen The Godfather but I still manage to make a reference. Guess it goes with the territory.

Writing Notes: Burn (In Your Own Flames), Chp 1, [KHR]

Minor Spoilers

Fic Things

I blame all of my current KHR fic writing on 033, including this one. 033 is such an enabler. 

I honestly think Xanxus is a schemer, not just brute force with a terrible temper (though they are that too!).

I also have a lot of feeling about Xanxus and adoptive family. I’m an adoptee, okay? and while my finding out was not Xanxus level disastrous, it was not a happy time either.

This would be about two months after Tsuna and gang come back from the past. The fake dating DID NOT happen in the original timeline. 

Looking at pictures of Xanxus gives no hint to WHERE he keeps his guns. I’m deciding Xanxus wears hip holsters most of the time, because she’s not usually in public enough to get in trouble for that (or at least, not in public areas that aren’t mafia controlled aka the police are paid off to “look the other way”)

Squalo is probably going to be in a relationship with Dino OR Dino and Bianchi I haven’t decided yet.

About the Title: Burn (In Your Own Flame)

Well, first off, flames because why fucking not in KHR

I really like the remaking/phoenix connotations, because both Xanxus and Tsuna are seeking changes in their lives from low points

Also, it’s more direct to Xanxus, but she’s using a negative stereotype (Predatory Lesbian) to influence politics, which I allude to the idea of ‘burning’ herself with her own flame

Thoughts on Girl!Xanxus

She is still sixteen physically and mentally after being defrosted

She’s just as tall as her canon self (which has Xanxus  at 6’2 aka my brother’s height but she is currently 6’0 and will end up 6’2 by age 20) 

She is butch; she doesn’t wear skirts or dresses. Suits, leather pants, ties, are all parts of her wardrobe.

She does, however, have a few feminine rings since they belonged to the Octavo; one is Daniela’s wedding ring with a diamond surrounded by the Vongola clam design (which looks sort of like a flower), another is a simple band with a gem for each color of flames (gift from Daniela’s father to Daniela after she became Don), and a lion ring like this but with orange stones (there are no box animals in Daniela’s time, but Daniel and the Lion’s Den is a Bible story and I’m going to find a way to associate that with Daniela)...I had too much fun making this up

Teen Mom, Varia Edition Chapter Two writing notes

1. Varia bedtime stories tend to involve a lot of death…

2. No pic atm from 033 because I confused her when sending her parts of chapter two and that image last time with Lussuria healing Tsuna was something that was originally in chapter two before I switched things around.

3. Why yes, some of my worldbuilding for this fic is influenced by the amazing works of Araceil and Reighost.

4. I’m having a bit of fun of thinking up backgrounds for various characters, which I’m sprinkling a little of it in this chapter and a bit more in the next. And one shots may appear in this ‘verse latter. 

5. On a weirder not, I recently decided on a pairing that will be showing up quite a bit later and when editing this chapter and working on chapter three and four, I noticed breadcrumbs I pretty much left myself for this before I even consciously thought about said pairing. 

6. I’m not sure what my updating schedule is going to be. 033, the amazing artist and my sounding board/beta, is very busy atm and I am getting less hours at work, which tends to make me less productive at writing. I’m crossing my fingers for my applications for full-time positions. 

7. And while I’m working on chapter three and four, let me vent: BEL IS FRUSTRATING TO WRITE.

Fanfic Notes and Extra Sketch for KHR fic Teen Mom, Varia Edition Chapter 1

The title was either that or Team Mom Varia

I have a lot of ideas about that sealing Tsuna scene that the anime slipped in...like this story happening.

Since I changed the ages a bit because everyone is disturbingly young in KHR the ages in this chapter (set in January 2006) are as follows: Squalo (16), Tsuna (6), Lussuria (20), Bel (10), and Xanxus (19). Edit: Scroll down for timeline fix and a spoiler free image of my timeline doc.

The Cradle Affair happened about 2 years ago in this timeline.

I have a rainbow coded timeline for this fic what is my life.

I’m having fun with playing around with Flame mythos, like Squalo doesn’t realize Sun Flames are more uncomfortable for him because he is a Rain, is overly guarded, and Lussuria doesn’t play nice anyways.

My dear friend L, who signs her art 033 and betas for me, also did this sketch.

Regularly discussing my writing with an artist rather than a fellow writer has been...interesting. What color is this? How big is a six year old? How long is Squalo’s hair at this point? There were a lot of things I hadn’t considered and talking about it was a blast. Like seriously we had a ridiculous, hour conversation over Squalo’s hair will be at different parts of the story.

9. Thanks to @eternalevecho for noticing I made a timeline mistake; Bel is the same age he would be at the Cradle Affair (8) but do to my timeline shifts, Squalo is a year older at Cradle Affair (15) and Tsuna is two years younger (4).

10. And then 033 looked over AO3 and was like “oh, is the other pic for the next chapter?” and I was like, oh crap, I forgot the other marvelous art she made.

It’s Levi’s and this was a whole ‘nother ridiculous conversation where when we were editing 033 and I made a whole backstory on failed!gardner Levi.
