Is Your Furniture Monsoon Ready? Here are a few tips from ASIS to help you do this!
The first monsoon shower is refreshing after the scorching heat of the long Indian summer. We all look forward to the drops of rain because they clean everything and make the planet look new and attractive. It’s pleasant to observe the rain from the comfort of our lovely homes when it’s raining outside. However, to appreciate the best of what the season has to offer while reducing the season’s occasional troubles, it’s a good idea to get your home ready for the season. To make these adjustments, you don’t need the help of experienced interior designers and decorators. These easy suggestions from ASIS India will help you in making your home Furniture monsoon-ready!
When we plan our home one of the major investments is furniture – ranging from the walls, flooring, and ceilings to the seating, tables, storage, modular kitchen cabinets, wardrobes…the list goes on and on!
While wood and ply are the primary materials that go into these, plywood is also used for decorative purposes such as wall cladding, fake ceilings, and wooden floors, all of which can give your home a warm vibe. Purchasing plywood is a sizeable expense, and it is this single investment that decides the longevity of your furniture / furnishing. As a result, it is critical to devote time to selecting the best plywood furniture to maximize the value of both plywood and time. After investing so much of your precious time and money allowing the monsoons to create havoc in your home, is obviously not a good idea.
Here are some suggestions from ASIS India for your furniture.
1. Keeping wooden furniture in good condition during the monsoon can be difficult. Pesticide deodorant and camphor or naphthalene balls, which are moisture absorbers, are some of the best ways to maintain such furniture.
2. Keep the moisture out: Upholstered furniture tends to attract moisture from the walls, causing the wood to rot. To avoid damage during the rainy season, pull your sofas, beds, wardrobes, and cupboards six inches away from the walls. When the rain stops, open the windows to let in as much light as possible, which will help to keep the rooms dry. Using a pesticide deodorant, such as camphor or naphthalene balls, to absorb moisture, They’ll also keep termites and other pests out of your clothes and wardrobe. If you prefer something more natural, neem leaves or cloves can be used in the same way.
3. Use a humidifier: Humidifiers are an excellent investment for controlling temperature and humidity. Having control over humidity levels at home would extend the life of your furnishings.
4. Wet cloths should never be used to clean your home’s furniture. Instead, clean and dry wiping cloths are recommended. Furthermore, during the monsoon, dust should not be left unattended because it tends to attach to wooden goods.
5. Apply a coat of lacquer or varnish at least once every two years, depending on the polish of the furniture, to fill the pores and prolong its longevity by preventing the wood from swelling.

Get rid of that mould and fungus from your furniture this monsoon- Here are some easy-to-do tips from ASIS India
While the monsoon has certainly brought a lot of respite from the heat, and has turned everything in its path a lush, lively green, the resulting increased humidity has also brought in mould which can damage your walls, furniture and clothes, especially if you live in a coastal city like Mumbai which has its fair share of the downpour and then some more!
Apart from the apparent & obvious problem of the furniture looking ugly, mould spores also cause and aggravate allergies and respiratory conditions like asthma. The musty air and stale odour also affect the quality of indoor environments, especially in poorly-ventilated spaces.
Repairing mould damage is difficult and expensive – so while it is best to take preventive steps before the monsoon sets in, as per the steps we have covered in our previous blog on the subject, but sometimes, no matter how cautious you are, a few articles or areas of your home will still end up catching mould!
Here’s are a few tips that can help you tackle it naturally without reaching out for bleach, harsh acids or expensive disinfectants:-
Sunlight is a natural disinfectant, so make the most of the days when the sun’s out by drying out your chairs, sofas, damp linen, laundry, mattresses along with the usual books and shoes in a sunny spot, opening up windows and sun-drying damp immovable items.
Vinegar is said to kill >80% of mould species – just pour it into a spray bottle and spray it directly on the mouldy surface. Let it sit for an hour until the vinegar is absorbed by the mould. Then scrub off with a brush and hot water. Clean the area with hot water and wipe it dry.
Baking Soda – Sprinkle baking soda onto a mouldy patch or spray a solution of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 cups of hot water directly on the mould. Let it sit for an hour before scrubbing with a brush and rinsing off the residue. Give the area final spray of vinegar to disinfect it and prevent regrowth. Wipe dry.
Neem – Shade-dried neem leaves are great for keeping mould and fungus away – wrap a few neem leaves in a cloth and place them in your wardrobe and bookshelves. You can place them in between stacks of clothes or in the pockets of jackets, shirts and trousers on hangers.
Lemon Juice is a mild natural bleaching agent and mould cleaner. It is an effective mould repellent for a number of surfaces – from furniture to bathroom tiles to clothes. Rinse and apply the lemon juice directly to the mould before scrubbing with a scouring pad or brush. Its fresh scent makes it effective on musty-smelling parts, too.
Camphor works as a natural and non-toxic alternative to naphthalene balls. As in the case of neem, you can make pouches containing a few camphor tablets and some cloves. Place the pouches in your wardrobe, shoe rack or bookshelf to protect them and give them a pleasant odour.
Light – You can overcome the shortage of natural light during monsoon by installing a bulb in the dark, damp spaces of bookcases, wardrobes and kitchen cabinets – the heat and light generated by the bulb can remove the moisture in these areas and prevent fungus from taking hold.

Sustainable Furniture for a sustainable Future- Here are a few tips from ASIS India
The monsoon is now at its fag end and there is rejuvenated greenery all around us that fills us with happiness and tranquillity. And we have a duty, nay, a moral obligation, to our future generations, of preserving the beauty of nature for them! While we certainly must enjoy the fruits of our labour, it is the balancing act of ‘sustainable development & consumption’ that will help us achieve these two seemingly antipodal aims. Yes, sustainable consumption is not just possible, but is actually quite easy to inculcate if we follow the right practices. For example, we at ASIS Group have always been a vociferous proponent of looking after your furniture so as to ensure its long usable life and thus helping you reduce the ‘mean time between changing your furniture’. Have you read our previous blogs on the our previous blogs on the subjects of monsoon precautions for your furniture and of getting rid of mould and fungus from your furniture?
In this edition, we talk of ‘Green’ or Eco-friendly Furniture – what is it and how to find it! Nowadays, we see and hear a lot of talk about sustainable furniture and a large number of people making responsible choices about the products they put in their homes because it matters for the environment. But are all green furniture claims true? Not always, and there’s a term for that: greenwashing. So it’s important to know all the facts. Green / Eco-friendly / Sustainable furniture is furniture made using materials that have a minimal negative impact on the environment:-
Uses materials that come from renewable sources.
Process produces minimal chemicals that can pollute the environment.
Prefers local material and manufacturing to save on transportation carbon footprint.
Finding sustainable furniture should start with a research. It is common for brands to claim their furniture is green or eco-friendly (the term for it is – Greenwashing), but many organizations now certify sustainable furniture materials. You may educate yourself about these certifications and what qualifies furniture as sustainable, and you’ll be able to make smart decisions regarding your furniture purchases. For example, our ASIS products are not just ISI and ISO 9001 certified for quality and process, and for their Anti-bacterial and Anti-viral properties, but also by Greenguard, IGBC and FSC. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), for example, certifies wood as sustainably harvested. Sustainable, responsible harvests ensure that the natural ecosystem remains in place and is able to maintain itself.
As a result, the forest continues to grow and produce wood. Tree farms and forests are examples of areas that qualify for certification.
ASIS India is India’s leading manufacturer and supplier of Laminates, MDF Boards, Plywood and Particle Boards. We believe that sustainable consumption is the only way ahead to conserve nature for our future generations. Furniture made from moisture-resistant, termite-free, borer-proof, high quality, long-lasting ply, MDF boards, particle boards, and laminates from ASIS contributes handsomely to this goal!
