On a trip to North Carolina last summer I found myself in Wilmington, where the annual Azalea Festival is a source of local pride. Functioning both as a preserved piece of tidal marshland and a a series of formal gardens, Arlie is infused with a relaxed, southern hospitality.

Last weekend we made the wedding cake, traveled to Louisville, set it up, placed the flowers and then stayed on to attend the ceremony and reception of our good friends Lisa and Jack. Their Memorial Day weekend wedding ceremony at Waterfront Botanical Gardens was brief, beautiful and meaningful. Their reception by Wiltshire Pantry was gourmet, delicious and the many pies each by a different baker were each in honor of family past and present. The evening ended with a bluegrass band for dancing, socializing and moonlit walks on the garden trails. Wishing you two all the best, and see you at the lake!
