The process of drilling for water involves using a drill rig to bore a hole into the ground to access an underground water source.
 The process typically starts with conducting a survey of the area to determine the location and depth of the water table. Once the drilling location is determined, the drill rig is set up and the drilling begins. 
The drill bit is advanced into the ground, and as it does, it is constantly cooled and lubricated with water to prevent overheating and to flush out rock debris. As the hole is drilled, the drill bit is gradually replaced with larger ones to increase the diameter of the hole. 
Once the water table is reached, a well casing is installed to prevent collapse of the hole and to keep surface contaminants out of the water. A pump is then installed to bring the water to the surface.
