A/N ;; first time writing angst,, hope it’s to your liking anon! was listening to this while writing
genre ;; angst
wc ;; 1.6k
it was a cozy café on a rainy afternoon when destiny intervened, casting its enchanting spell upon your lives.
seeking solace from the downpour outside, you found refuge in the warm embrace of the café, its aromatic scents of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods dancing in the air.
little did you know that the tantalizing aroma of dark chocolate would lead you to a serendipitous encounter with marsh danielle, the best and worst thing that could’ve happened to your life.
as you approached the counter to order your favorite hot beverage, drenched from the rain outside, your eyes were drawn to a mesmerizing sight.
there stood danielle, her radiant smile reflecting the golden hues of the café lights. she delicately held a piece of dark chocolate, admiring it with a childlike wonder, as if it held the secrets of the universe within its velvety embrace.
curiosity piqued, you found yourself unable to resist the pull of this captivating scene. with a touch of courage, you approached danielle, catching her attention as you both reached for the same piece of dark chocolate. your fingertips brushed against each other, igniting a subtle spark that lingered in the air.
"seems like we have the same taste in chocolate," you remarked, a hint of playfulness in your voice.
danielle's eyes met yours, a mix of surprise and intrigue dancing in their depths. a warm blush painted her cheeks as she returned your playful banter, "well, i guess great minds think alike."
an effortless conversation ensued, flowing as smoothly as the warm streams of coffee. you found out that danielle was a trainee for hybe, set to debut in an upcoming group named “newjeans.”
hours melted away like chocolate in the sun as you conversed with each other as if you’ve known the other your entire life.
in the gentle lull of conversation, danielle reached for the remaining piece of dark chocolate, a silent invitation extended between you.
as she broke off a small portion, her hand extended toward you, offering a taste of the bittersweet delight.
with a mix of anticipation and reverence, you accepted the piece of chocolate, allowing its rich flavors to envelop your senses.
in that moment, it was as if time stood still, capturing the essence of this delicate connection forged over a simple piece of chocolate.
as the rain continued to drizzle outside, you thanked the universe for allowing you to cross paths with marsh danielle.
oh, just how wrong you were then.
about 8 months after the cafe encounter, danielle had been your world, the love of your life. but lately, something felt off.
the warmth in her touch had turned cold, and her once vibrant smile seemed forced. you couldn't shake the feeling that she was slipping away, and it ate at you day by day.
one evening, as you sat alone in your room, you decided to watch your girlfriend’s videos.
you don’t know when it happened, but insecurities flooded your mind, and the comparisons to haerin, danielle’s fellow group member, and one she was particularly touchy with, became inescapable.
haerin possessed a captivating presence, with her charismatic smile and mesmerizing talent. the more you watched her perform, the more you found yourself questioning your own worth.
after all, you were a nobody. you weren’t a member of the monster rookie girl group, newjeans. you were just somebody who got lucky by having the chance to meet and befriend them before their stardom.
as you kept watching newjeans fans’ videos, you realized that danielle and haerin had been shipped and edited together a lot.
you wondered if danielle had found solace in haerin's arms, if she had been captivated by her effortless charm, like she once was with you.
the doubt and self-criticism began to poison your mind, overshadowing your once-confident spirit. you questioned your every move, dissecting your every flaw, and wondering if you could ever measure up to haerin.
it felt as if you were in a constant competition, and you were losing.
the weight of your insecurities became unbearable, and the truth finally came crashing down on you. a close friend, hanni, unable to bear witness to your suffering any longer, revealed the painful secret to you over a facetime call:
“y/n, danielle’s been seeing haerin behind your back.”
it was as if the world crumbled beneath your feet. the pain of betrayal mixed with the feelings of inadequacy, creating an explosive cocktail of heartbreak and anger.
no, that couldn’t be right. your danielle was walking ray of sunshine, there’s no way she would have done something as vile as that to you.
before you could defend your girlfriend, hanni sends you a picture of danielle and haerin kissing.
you felt your heart break into several pieces, speechless at what hanni had just sent you.
you begin to feel the airway in your throat constricting, with a choked voice, you quickly end your call with hanni.
you listen to the the opening of the door to yours and danielle’s shared apartment. the same apartment that danielle begged her manager for because she couldn’t stand the thought of being away from you. you’re taken out of your thoughts as jingling keys progressively getting louder.
“hi baby,” danielle weakly smiled at you, “i’m going to wash up and rest. today’s schedule was tough.”
normally, you would have been more understanding, but hanni’s call from earlier today lingered on your mind.
“dani, we need to talk.” you affirm, your eyes locking onto hers.
danielle looks confused for a bit before writing you off, “i’m really tired, can’t we talk tomorrow?”
you decided to rip the band aid right off, “are you cheating on me, marsh danielle?”
danielle’s eyes pop out of her head, “w-what do you mean?”
you begin to feel the tears in your eyes well up. you show danielle the picture hanni sent you. “please don’t tell it’s what i think it is.”
silence is all you recieve from danielle.
"how could you do this to me? to us?" you cried out, your voice laced with pain and trembling with emotion.
danielle's face paled, her eyes filled with remorse as she struggled to find the right words. "i... i'm sorry," she stammered, tears welling up now too. "i never meant to hurt you. it was a mistake, a moment of weakness."
her words fell on deaf ears as your heart shattered further. the confrontation turned messy as your anger consumed you, your emotions boiling over.
"a moment of weakness? that's not an excuse!" you yelled, your voice filled with righteous fury. "you betrayed me, danielle. you threw away everything we had for a fleeting desire!"
the room fell silent again as tension hung thick in the air. danielle’s eyes shifting guiltily away from you. the pain etched on your face was palpable, a rawness that couldn't be concealed.
the truth hung heavy in the air as the confrontation reached its boiling point. the room felt suffocating, tension crackling like electricity between you and danielle.
"you think you can just cheat on me and then apologize? is that what this is?" you spat, your voice shaking with a mix of anger and hurt. “do you have nothing else to say?”
danielle's eyes glanced towards yours before it quickly darted away again, unable to meet your gaze. "i... i didn't mean for it to happen," she mumbled, her voice barely audible.
"didn't mean for it to happen? how can you say that?" you exclaimed, frustration and pain fueling your words. "you knew exactly what you were doing when you got involved with haerin."
her shoulders slumped as guilt washed over her features. "i know i messed up. i never wanted to hurt you," she admitted, tears now streaming down her face without stop.
"you had a choice, danielle.” you steady your shake breath before speaking again, “you had a choice, and you chose to betray me." you stated, your voice filled with a mixture of disappointment and disbelief.
silence engulfed the room for a third time as the weight of the truth settled in. the echoes of the argument reverberated through your mind, each word etching itself into your memory. the pain and anger surged within you, threatening to consume you entirely.
“how long has it been going on for?” you try your best to question calmly.
“four months.”
four months. danielle’s words had left you estranged. four months where danielle had been unfaithful to you without you even realizing, you thought.
“why?” you ask, tears dropping as you try to wipe them off.
“i just got so lonely and-“ danielle tries to explain her side of things, but you cut her off.
“no. you don’t get to say that you’ve been lonely, danielle.” your voice raises in volume, “how did you think i felt when you had to travel around the world for months at a time to shoot for your music videos?!?”
in that moment, you realized that forgiveness was not something you were ready to offer.
the betrayal ran deep, tearing at the very fabric of your trust and love. it was a wound that could not be easily mended.
so, you made a decision. you couldn't continue living in the shadow of danielle's betrayal. the comparisons to haerin, the self-doubt, and the pain—they were no longer your burden to bear.
with a heavy heart, you turned away from danielle, unable to bear the sight of her.
the relationship you had cherished was now tarnished, irreparably broken. the confrontation had become the turning point, the moment when you knew you could no longer hold onto what was shattered.
as you walked away from danielle’s cries for you to stop, that you two could figure this out, you gathered your belongings, the echoes of your argument and her cries slowly fading into the distance. the messy confrontation had revealed the true colors of your relationship, forcing you to confront the painful reality.
love had always been bitter, much like the dark chocolate danielle had given you the very first day you met.
A/N ;; i love dark chocolate actually

4 Irresistible Cookie Flavors to Try This Fall
When you welcome the fall, it comes with your favorite seasonal flavors. Pumpkin spice, maple pecan, gingerbread, peppermint—they’re all on the scene, and some lend themselves to delicious coconut cookies. You can enjoy these cookies or classic chocolate chip coconut cookies with coffee or a seasonal drink. You can pack them in a lunch for school or work. You might even want to get individual packages of three cookies to hand out on Halloween! No matter how you enjoy cookies, look for these flavors during the fall.
Pumpkin Spice Coconut Cookie Pumpkin spice is the end-all-be-all of fall flavors. It’s got all those delicious, warm spices and a subtle, cinnamony sweetness. Even if you don’t like the syrupy taste of a pumpkin spice latte, you could still enjoy the not-too-sweet flavor of a pumpkin spice coconut cookie. With wholesome ingredients like coconut, agave, almond flour, and coconut oil, a lower-in-sugar, gluten-free coconut cookie is the perfect fall treat. Dark Cacao Coconut Cookie Something about dark chocolate makes it an excellent flavor for a fall cookie. Maybe it’s the rainy, cold weather or how good it tastes with a morning cup of coffee. In any case, a dark cacao cookie needs to be on hand during the fall and winter months. It may not have the classic seasonal flavors, but a dark cacao cookie with cocoa powder and coconut is a chewy, flavorful, and rich addition to the season. If you’re craving even more chocolate with a hint of mint, grab some double chocolate mint coconut cookies made with peppermint oil. Chocolate Chip Coconut Cookie Like a dark cacao cookie, chocolate chip cookies are not exactly a seasonal treat, but they’re still a deliciously sweet indulgence for any time of the year, and people of all ages love them. You can curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and gluten-free coconut cookies chocolate chip at the end of the day while you watch the rain fall, turn on your favorite holiday movie, or binge-watch some holiday specials. It will be the best combination of all of the classics. Gingerbread Coconut Cookie As you get deeper into the holiday season, decorating your home, celebrating with friends, and watching all the holiday movies, it’s the ideal time to bring out the gingerbread cookies. Even if you can’t have gluten, you can still enjoy a gluten-free gingerbread coconut cookie with all the delicious seasonal spices. There may also be a touch of molasses, a pinch of ginger, and even some white chocolate wrapped in that chewy, coconutty goodness. Cookies are a must-have for anyone with a little sweet tooth—they don’t even have to be that sweet. Gluten-free coconut cookies with limited ingredient lists can be lower in sugar and feature wholesome, organic ingredients for a guilt-free indulgence. They’re the perfect partner for your favorite seasonal fall beverages, packed lunches, small desserts, and anytime snacks. So, the next time you want a fall treat, grab a bag of cookies with one of these irresistible flavors. MERROCK TASK #1 ALL ABOUT AUTUMN & HALLOWEEN
What’s your character’s fall aesthetic like, are they more into the spooky season, or do they like the cozy feeling of fall? Rafael isn’t really a holiday person, to be honest. He celebrates when his family come to town, and will get involved in the parties and events that are taking place, but to him, it’s just a change in the temperature that marks the time to pull out his leather jacket to head into work. In that aspect, probably more into fall than the spooky season, itself.
How does your character feel about the Halloween holiday? Growing up in a Mexican-Italian family, Halloween itself wasn’t much of a thing, especially not when he was younger. They celebrated All Saints Day (Ognissanti was something his family never missed when he lived in Amalfi) more traditionally. Now, he understands it on a basic level of kids putting on costumes to get candy and adults putting on costumes to get a little bit wild.
When it comes to Halloween weekend, are they more likely to go to a Halloween party, or stay at home handing out candy? Probably more likely to hand out candy at home, if by ‘handing out,’ someone means leaving a bowl of candy outside for the kids. He isn’t much into the party scene these days, but will go where invited.
If your character had to be any mythical creature, what would they be, and why? Vampire, obviously. The chance to live forever and retain his looks and physique without having to work for it? Priceless.
What is your character’s favorite go-to Halloween movie? Any campy, cassic, black and white movie that he grew up watching, basically. The classic Dracula movies, Young Frankenstein... El Vampiro always reminds him of his family.
What is your character’s favorite kind of Halloween candy? Rafael tends to reach for chooclate; he loves a good full-size Snickers bar.
What was your character’s favorite Halloween costume that they’ve ever worn? He’s honestly not sure that he’s ever had a favorite costume -- he didn’t do a lot of dressing up as a kid, and as an adult, he tends to go with the more basic, boring looks that are easy to pull on as he’s heading out the door. James Bond, perhaps?
When it does come to costumes, in general, does your character go the do-it-yourself route, or are they more into buying something? Purchasing, always. As fun as it might be to put something together, if he’s going to wear a full-on costume, he’s always going to buy it.
On the spooky side, does your character believe in ghosts? Not the haunting, cruel kind of ghosts, but the idea of spirits, absolutely. It’s almost comforting to feel that loved ones linger and keep an eye on the people that they cared about.
What animal screams ‘Halloween season’ to your character? Or makes them think of autumn? Wolves.
What hot beverage does your character reach for on a chilly day when they just want to warm up a little bit? Definitely coffee, just not the kind that someone drinks that tastes more like pumpkin than actual coffee.
And what about food? Is there a certain treat that they have to have in the fall? Donuts -- apple cider ones, but also pumpkin spice. It’s the one instance where he doesn’t mind the ‘pumpkin everything’ attitude that people take, when he can have it in a donut.
Pumpkin spice everything – yay or nay? Nay for everything, but yay for some things. Like the donuts.
Pick the weather – is it a windy fall afternoon, or a rainy autumn evening? Honestly, it could rain both day and night, it makes for a comfortable working environment.
What is your character’s favorite fall scent? Something that really sets the mood? Rafael tends to like spicy scents. Not necessarily pumpkin spice, that’s not really his vibe (obviously), be he loves a good spiced candle, tart warmer, cologne, whatever it takes.
When it comes to fall and Halloween, does your character go all out with decorations, or do they prefer to keep it simple? Or don’t decorate at all? He’s not much of a decorator. He’ll put a wreath on the front door, maybe a few pumpkins on the front steps; light fall-scented candles, but that’s about all the further he goes.
Favorite autumn related activity to do during the season? Does eating fall favorites count...? He does actually quite enjoy Creek Fest, and would count that as his favorite part of the fall season.
There’s a pumpkin in front of your character… what are they going to do? Paint it? Carve it? What will they make it look like? He’s probably just going to leave it there. Painting and carving tend to cause a mess, and there’s nothing wrong with a plain, handsome pumpkin sitting on the porch, is there?
Is there a certain song that your character hears that just screams 'Halloween’? Monster Mash.
The leaves are falling. Is your character more likely to rake them, or let them lay in the yard? It’s the beauty of not having a yard... he doesn’t have any leaves. If he did, he would rake them.
When it comes to fall fashion, is your character more into sweatshirts and sweatpants, or skinny jeans and warm sweaters? Oh no, Rafael is all about the fall wear -- tailored pants, leather jackets, turtle necks, leather boots, anything that says fall and looks like it would cost a lot, truthfully.
What about color palette, is there a certain color that your character reaches for in the closet when fall rolls around? Black, gray and navy. But you could ask him that question any time of the year and get the same answer.
Does your character get scared easily? Do they feel more on edge this time of year? No, not really. Not that he’s going out of his way to walk through any cemeteries, but.
Let’s light the fire – where is it? Are we talking indoor fireplace, or outdoor campfire? More than likely indoors. Rafael has a large working fire place in his bedroom, and it happens to be one of his favorite things about his home.
Probably the toughest question that they could be asked… is your character more of an apple or pumpkin pie person? Despite all the him-hawing about whether or not he likes pumpkin spice in everything... pumpkin pie. With spice.

The Sprudge Coffee Guide To Sacramento
Sacramento, California is known by many names, both beloved and hated. It’s the state capital, the city of trees/allergies, Sacto, home of Lady Bird and—if you really want to get underneath a Sacramento local’s skin—call it a cowtown. Though, good luck finding any actual cows here. Just under 100 miles northeast of San Francisco, Sacramento is an easy jaunt for those wishing to explore the capital and soak in some history. One thing locals agree on these days is that Sacramento is a great town for coffee. There’s something for everyone. Here are a few must-stop-shops to get you caffeinated while you take in the sights of the capital.

Temple Coffee
Opened in 2005, Temple Coffee is a pioneer of the local coffee scene. Owned and operated by Sean Kohmescher, Temple Coffee found its niche quickly among locals and visitors alike. While you’re almost guaranteed to wait in line at one of their five locations (and counting) around Sacramento and Davis—don’t let this deter you—efficient baristas greet you almost instantly behind shiny La Marzoccos. Next to the register, you’ll be tempted by a dazzling pastry case and a wall of enticing teas.
Whether you prefer one of their single-origin espresso shots or a pour-over, the K St location is a must-visit to check out their famous penny floors, and for their popular Dessert Program, which features specialty desserts such as cakes, tarts, and cheesecakes, all from local bakeries. For vegan and gluten-free fans, this menu will not disappoint.
Temple Coffee is nothing if not laser-focused on education, quality control, and maintaining its approachable, friendly-neighborhood-shop atmosphere, including free weekly public coffee tastings.
Temple Coffee Roasters has multiple locations around Sacramento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Chocolate Fish
Andy and Edie Baker opened Chocolate Fish downtown in 2008, inspired by the espresso culture in their native New Zealand. After moving to Sacramento, they knew they wanted to have a shop that celebrated their Kiwi culture—and even named their shop after a fish-shaped treat indigenous to New Zealand that is given out as a “thank you” for a good deed (you may also “catch” your own at the shop). The couple now operate three shops, each a a haven for those that appreciate their coffee with a nice, dog-friendly patio. Unlike most cafes in the grid, you’ll rarely see a gaggle of computer-tapping students here. In fact, there is no free WiFi, to encourage conversation rather than work.
The East Sac location on Folsom and 48th is where Chocolate Fish roasts coffee, with a meticulously-designed floorplan that allows patrons to watch roasting in action. Besides a full menu of award-winning coffees, the must-try item here is their nitro flash brew, which they pioneered and perfected in 2014. Many shops have tried to match the quality of this rich brew, but the nitro at Chocolate Fish remains the supreme summer drink for locals.
Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters has multiple locations around Sacremento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
The Mill
Since opening The Mill on I St in 2014, Nicholas & Ilah Rose Cookston-Minton have created one of the most unique shops in town—and I’ll say it began the minute they cranked up the waffle iron with a homemade liège-style yeasted batter so sweet you can smell it down the block. Their flagship cafe is conveniently located within walking distance of the lavender district on J St, which is a weekend destination for hitting the Saturday farmers market and street festivals.
The Mill roasts its own beans under the brand Bouquet, which are worth purchasing if only to have the beautifully-designed bag grace your countertop (the coffee is consistently stellar, as well). Like their bag designs, The Mill’s interior is stunning and graceful, with hand-designed arrangements so lovely you’d think that animated Disney woodland critters decorated it when no one was looking. Likewise, their new East Sac location off Elvas Avenue promises much of the same cozy atmosphere.
The Mill’s playful seasonal menus keep everyone curious and begging for one more dose of a seasonal drink or jam before gearing up for what’s next. During the summer, look for the Wildwood flower latte or the Root Beer Espresso Float, or one of their signature beverages that highlight the delicious magic of herbs and roots in each house-made syrup—truly bringing the bouquet to the cafe.
The Mill has multiple locations around Sacremento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
Camellia Coffee Roasters
When business partners Robert Watson and Ryan Harden opened the doors of Camellia in 2018 in the WAL Public Market on bustling R Street, they were on a mission—to serve great cups of coffee and specialty pastries to the close-knit community of the newly hip R St corridor. Their coffee is stellar, but the food (all made in-house) is unlike any other coffee shop in town: it’s all about the pie.
Snag a hand pie filled with sweet or savory fillings, like apple, soyrizo with queso and hashbrowns, or broccoli with ham and cheddar. Or opt for a breakfast sandwich, which are super-stacked egg sandwiches with cheese, green onions, and veggies, bacon or sausage on a brioche bun with Cholula mayo (or a secret house-made hot sauce.)
Aside from their breakfast options, Camellia is a great stop if you want to see the growth of Sacramento in action: the open-market floorplan is full of local boutiques that will keep you busy for hours after the caffeine hits. During summer months, there are often street fairs and the hustle-bustle of locals that are happy to celebrate the end of the rainy season.
[BOX]Camellia Coffee Roasters is located at 1104 R St Ste 150, Sacramento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.[/box]
Old Soul
Since 2006, Old Soul has been a tried-and-true favorite of locals before “coffee snob” was a badge worn with honor. Owners Jason Griest and Tim Jordan were just a couple of guys roasting coffee in an alley (now a hugely popular area known as the Handle District), and little did they know what was in store for their humble shop.
Griest and Jordan set out to create a business where they would “make it ourselves and if we don’t, we’ll know who does,” Griest says. A deram actualized, Old Soul produces all its food (you’ll find a very generous breakfast and lunch/dinner menu) in-house and partners with various farmers around Sacramento Valley to ensure all products are fresh. Each of the three locations are very cozy, inviting, and serve as locals go-to spots for small meetings or dates.
Be sure to check out their seasonal menu with gems such as the Lavender Lemonade, and in the fall you will “fall” for the Mandarin Masaya, made with homemade cascara simple syrup and the local favorite, Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate.
Old Soul Co. has multiple locations around Sacramento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Identity Coffee
Located just on the edge of midtown on 28th& O St, Identity immediately welcomes you with a sandwich-board sign stating “Hella Open Right Now,” which leads your eyes to the friendly exterior tucked away behind palm trees.
Inside, the spacious open-concept floorplan is a rare find in the grid—with custom tables and a bar designed and handcrafted by one of the owners, Lucky Rodrigues, who (along with his business partner, Ryan Rake), wanted the space to have a minimalist vibe by utilizing local, fell trees. Step on up and order a medium-roast pour-over, and delight in drinking your beverage in a vintage mug (barista’s choice). Compliment your coffee with a locally-sourced pastry, bagel, or quiche. Head over to the Westside location (near the I St bridge) for heartier breakfast burritos, vegan waffles, and sandwiches with kettle chip nachos.
Identity Coffee has multiple locations around Sacramento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
Oblivion Comics and Coffee
Inspired by the pocket universe inside DC Comics called the Oblivion Bar (a neutral zone where heroes and villains alike peacefully coexist), Oblivion Comics and Coffee has created its own peaceful world a stone’s throw from the Capitol building, right off K Street and 11th. The goal of Oblivion is to provide a safe, diverse, and welcoming place for everyone, and promotes acceptance, imagination, and creativity—all over an amazing cup of coffee.
Since opening shop in 2017, owners Laura Benson and Neil Estaris have indeed created the dream scenario for self-appointed comic and coffee geeks in the Sacramento area; utilizing Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters coffee and local bakeries for their pastry and quirky toast options, Oblivion knows as much about how to maneuver their way around an espresso machine as they could help you find your next favorite comic, which can be found right around the corner after picking up your Latte of Truth. They’ll even dust a comic-related stencil on top of your drink.
Oblivion has a jam-packed events calendar and regularly hosts open mic nights, trivia nights (sometimes Jeopardy-style), and educational Cosplay Crash Courses. After you’ve had your Thunderer’s Brew and Edible Hulk toast, the spoils of the vibrant downtown/K Street adventures await you.
Oblivion Comics and Coffee is located at 1020 11th St, Sacramento. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
